His teaching style involves going through the power point slides and then going to the white board in order to draw it and help visual learners. He is great at explaining both what and why in chemistry. He also respects Katrina the toucan. Love this man. Class wasn't hard as long as you listen.
Chemistry is hard to teach to a variety of majors, but Dr. W does a great job of explaining difficult concepts visual learners. He is extremely understanding of what students have going on, and often pushes back homework dates if he uploads a lecture a little late, but you need to watch them. Just do the work he requires and you'll do just fine.
This class has a lot of work with ALEKS, the lecture videos, and participation questions. But the ALEKS and participation questions are great ways to practice. He goes over examples of things taught in the videos during the class, and explains really well. He also gives practice mock exams that are basically like the exam.
He is a very generous guy. You have to try to fail his class. All of the tests have partial credit. No textbook and he post the lectures the night before class so you can make sure you are caught up.
He seems like a nice guy but is hard to understand when he is explaining a topic. There a 3 difficult tests, 1 final, 2-4 weekly canvas assignments, a weekly lab, and ALEKS hw's. Seemed like an easy class for those who understood chemistry very well.
Attendance isn't required, but iClicker is used in class for participation points, so you probably shouldn't skip. Tests are entirely free response, or at least not multiple choice, but partial points are given if the right formula is used. There's a lot of homework, but if you show up & do the assignments you should do fine.
To anyone who's willing to attend office hours and pay attention in class, this professor is the way to go. He's amazing at explaining things and a fantastic professor who genuinley cares about his students. If you skip class or cheat through the homework using Chegg you'll fall behind quick. Not hard to get a good grade if u try.
This class is alot of work but so is any other Chem 119 class. The benefits of taking Dr.W is that 90% of his mock exam is the exact same (with diff numbers) as the actual exam and he does review sessions that help a ton. He genuinley cares, and if you make time to go to office hours, he'll go over participation homework answers. Solid prof.
Weitzel is a caring prof. and if you try to understand the work you more than likely will catch on. He wants to help in every way possible so be sure to utilize his office hours for any questions. With the homework and review, the exams are doable as long as you study. He has a set schedule of ALEKS due every Monday and Canvas twice a week.
He is a great and genuinely caring professor. As long as you attend the lectures and watch the videos he posts on canvas, you will learn a lot and do well on the exams. There is weekly homework on canvas and ALEKS, and in class participation on iclicker. Not a terribly difficult task as long as you put in the work.
Dr. Weitzel is a great professor! I wasn't adept at chemistry in highschool and going into Chem 119 gave me some anxiety but his teaching style is centered toward your success. His courseload consists of canvas videos (generally 30 min - 1 hour each),canvas participation questions,ALEKs(online hw),and 4 tests (excluding the final exam).
Dr. Weitzel's class is not the worst thing in the world, but I definitely would not take it again. He teaches the concepts outside of class in multiple hour long videos you have to watch fully to understand, and then spends lecture time doing practice problems. If you're taking any other slightly difficult class, the homework feels unmanageable.
mock exams are exactly like the actual exam. attend his review sessions that go over the mock exam and you're set with an A.
He was pretty average for a first year teaching basic chemistry. He overall needed improvement on way as to make the chemistry material easier to grasp rather than explaining the science in it, just tell us the equations. He was pretty reliable and I enjoyed going to office hours for help when needed but hate canvas.
Dr. W is super understanding, and he really wants you to succeed! The course had a lot of work, but if you're willing to do it, you'll be fine. The prof posts videos to watch before lectures, and he's not the best at explaining efficiently, but it's not bad on 2x speed & the people who watch them do better. Also, he does some extra credit
Dr. Weitzel cared a lot about the students, and if you were to ever need help in his class, he will definitely give tips and practices that will help you succeed in his class. He is also very lenient and is open to giving extra credit and second chances in some situations
It is very important that you watch the lecture videos he posts before attending actual lecture. His exams are fill in the blank but if you put some work down he still gives you some points. Other than that do your Aleks homework and pay attention, because he is sometimes unclear on learning topics. ATTEND OFFICE HRS. Be willing to put in the work!
Its a flip classroom and what he covered in lecture didnt prepare me for the work. If the class did bad on exams he would rarely give extra credit. On grading exams if you leave a label out but get the final answer correct it is counted wrong. Couldnt attend office hours due to another class. He was pretty good about answering emails.
I did not do too well in this class however Weitzel was incredibly helpful every step of the way. He responds to emails extremely quick and will reopen assignments if you are struggling. Beware of the amount of homework this course calls for, there is a lot of ALEKS and long lectures to watch after class but if you keep up its a great class.
He answers back super fast and ensures that you get the answer you need. Watch his videos before class and always do the homework. His test give partial credit so always show your work. It took a lot of effort, but still got an A.
Flipped classroom with long lectures to watch before class, however, I loved that the lectures are all recorded so you can watch at your own pace to understand the material better. His office hours are very very helpful and WILL make a difference in your grade. Tests are only hard if you don't put in the work. Time consuming, but was manageable.
He is a very nice guy, but I found that the reverse classroom is not for me. The lectures are very time consuming and it is easy to fall behind. If you don't try hard enough and keep up, you will fall behind. If you know fall behind easily, take someone else because you get assigned hours of videos a week plus ALEKs plus canvas questions.
He is so generous and accommodating so if you need anything literally just ask. The tests are all free response so partial credit and detailed feedback is really good. The lectures make sense and the homework builds understanding on it. Lab is also really easy and due dates are easy to keep up with. :)
He's a really approachable guy. Many resources. One of the best CHEM 120 profs. Many people dislike the flipped classroom but I like it. If you stay on top of your class work then it becomes easier. You get to class already knowing the material and then he quickly reviews it and you get practice in all in one. BOOM!
Flipped classroom did me no good and its SO easy to fall behind. I felt like the amount of work was unreasonable & the lecture vids didnt help as he did not explain material efficiently. There were hours of lecture vids a week, on top of ALEKS & canvas questions that sometimes would take hours to figure out since he didn't explain material well.
100% take him. Chem is a lot of work, so be prepared to work. But Weitzel is super helpful and he's honestly the best. I had a friend who had McCartney, and I think she's a really good lecturer, but her grading is a lot more strict than Weitzel so I'd definitely recommend him over her. He's also great about explaining things really in depth.
This class is a lot of work. A lot of lecture videos, participation questions, and ALEKS assignments that waste a lot of time. Exams can be either really difficult or easy. For the final be ready to study, this exam was the hardest one I've taken in college, harder than calculus exams, and it completely screwed me over.
Great professor if you use his resources. Watch the lecture videos and take notes. Do the homework and come to class, (free points basically!). Exams can be hard because they are heavy math AND concepts. Mock exams provided. Lots of partial credit on exams though! He was always willing to help and was easily accessible outside the classroom.
Weitzels great, but this class is a flipped classroom so LOTS of homework. can get kinda hard to keep up if you get behind, but his office hours are very helpful and he really wants the best for you. just a warning that chem lab is a lot of work so this course is just a lot frfr. be warned but this prof is very caring and wants you to succeed.
Overall Weitzel is a very sweet and caring teacher. He does give a lot of homework but it helped me learn the material better. He has a flip class room which is not for everyone but if you keep up with watching the videos you will succeed. I highly recommend taking his class.
One of the best profs. Goes into detail and genuinely wants students to succeed. Highly recommend going to office hours. His flipped class system was hard to keep up with but try to stay caught up. Tests were difficult sometimes but redo iClickers and participation questions to study for the exam. Be sure to understand the conceptual parts.
Have nothing bad to say. Definitely take him for 119 or 120.
Dr. Weitzel was passionate about his subject, and holds EXTREMELY helpful office hours. This is a weed-out class, so lots of hw, and he uses a flipped classroom style. The workload is VERY heavy, but the professor is dedicated and understanding.
I took him when his first year of teaching at A&M. Exams are very heavy so practice the exam review constantly. Not many extra credits at all. Nice and caring dude but keep searching for other professors if possible.
If you fail his class it is entirely on you. There is no way you finish all the homework and pay attention in class yet fail. He's generous with both extra credit and office hours and his practice exams are a cheat code. I failed two exams and still managed to get an A if that helps.
Weitzel's class was not too difficult, but I didn't find him to be that great of a lecturer. He often just talked and talked and it was hard to retain focus. The practice exams are very helpful though.
He is very caring he will always answer emails and be helpful outside of class in office hours, he goes into very deep detail about topics which can sometimes get boring but he has a lot of helpful online homework and extra credit/practice work to help.
Dr. W is a really good professor. He held office hours after class each week and often the morning before the test for a couple last minute questions. His mock exams will be a decent representation of what you make on the exam. He does a flipped classroom so I recommend printing his lecture slides and writing down what he does in colored pens.
It is lecture heavy however the lectures are all recorded, watch them before class. In class iClicker questions are mandatory attendance grades, however he tends to work through all the problems as a class and it is easy to do well. He is extremely understanding, homeworks have up to a day late for full points. Dr. Weitzel the GOAT.
He teaches with a flipped classroom so be prepared to take lots of notes prior to lectures, He is super passionate about what he teaches and is very accessibly and kind in office hours and via email. Your grade reflects the effort you put into the class, there is a lot of work. Tests aren't bad considering he holds zoom meetings prior to tests.
He is so kind and understanding, he will explain everything he can to you as much as you need and he answers emails super fast. Just do your work and go to his office hours or email him if you have questions, I didn't get an A because I didn't put in a little extra effort for studying for tests which I regret.
TAKE HIM!!! best 119 chem prof! Dr. Weitzel responds fast to emails and it is obvious he cares about his students and that they understand material. He is very lenient and is great at explaining any topic. He truly cares about his classes and is all around my favorite professor. literally do anything in your power to get in his class.
Chem is not my strongest class but Dr. W was AMAZING. Very flexible and willing to extend deadlines. I learned best by going to office hours as he answered any question I had in-depth. He is passionate about what he does, and helps his students succeed by providing extra credit and opportunities to boost grades as the chem exams can be difficult.
If I could I would take him for Chem 120, he was more than welcomed to take time and break stuff down for you, all you have to do is ask. He truly wants his students to succeed and has so much faith in them. All you really have to do is watch lecture videos, do your participation question and ALECKS and you should be good for the exams.
Great guy. Shame He isnt teaching 120 for 2024. He is a very caring person and outgoing. If you ask him a question, 95% he will answer it on the spot and if not his office hour timings are pretty convenient. Very hw heavy and participation but def preps you for the exams especially aleks. Would strongly recommend if never taken chem before.
Professor Weitzel is Top G. His class honestly is not that easy. It's a pretty big workload considering the class was flipped (online lectures and discuss in class). But with all the practice problems, I hardly needed to study for the exams. Go to office hours; he tends to over-explain things sometimes, but he cares about his students' success.
Nice, Passionate, FLIPPED CLASSROOM (LECTURE IS OUTSIDE OF CLASS) - 2 HR VIDS POSSIBLE, Required Canvas Questions Over Online Videos Due Each Class, NO QUIZZES, Flexible Deadlines, Extra Credit, Responsive, Many Office Hrs, Live Test Reviews, iClicker Problems During Class -GPS Attendance, ALEKS Is A Pain, Has Buffer Grades, Beware of Lab Times
Dr. W does a really good job of explaining concepts. The lecture was recorded videos meant to be reviewed before class and during class he would briefly go over the content and work practice problems. There is a lot of other work in this course which is a nice buffer if you don't do so well on exams. He also really cares about his students!
Dr. Weitzel is the BEST professor to take for CHEM 119. He is caring and really cares about his students and their success. His office hours are extremely helpful, and he always makes sure to respond to emails. His flipped classroom is so helpful, as students can watch material prior to class. If you're looking for an amazing professor, take Dr. W!
Prof Weitzel is very caring and truly wants you to succced, but do not take this class if you do not do well with flipped classrooms. We have videos we watch on our own, and then work out problems in class. This left a lot of questions for me and other students unanswered.
Dr. Weitzel is the best chemistry teacher I have had. He cares about every student and wants them to succeed. The lecture videos are long sometimes and you are expected to watch them on your own time. His office hours are beneficial and he answers questions over email as well or in class/after class. You need to dedicate time to be successful
HE DA GOAT BRUH!!!!!!!! literally top tier professor at tamu hes so caring and awesome. drops lowest exam grade. so much extra credit. not hard to pass his class if you pay attention. so nice and such a genuine guy. decent bit of homework but these help out SO MUCH if you are struggling. attend office hours he is a sweetie pie if u dont understand.
Dr. Weitzel is so friendly and truly wants you to succeed. He uses flipped lecture style where you must watch lectures before class and participate in iClicker during class. If you participate and pay attention you should be ok. Mock exams are very helpful for tests. This class is a lot of work but if you put in the effort you will be fine.
Dr. Weitzel genuinely cares for the students in his class and really wants you to succeed. He is very accessible outside of class and always has his office hours open. He has a flipped class lecture style so definitely watch the lecture videos he posts because they will help you once you get to class and with the homework.
Dr. W is such a caring and thorough professor. CHEM-119 is a tough course, and his flipped classroom style can sometimes be overwhelming, but he is such a gem. He is so accessible, understanding, and helpful. Listen to his lectures and work through all his resources and you will do amazing!
At home lecture videos. No in person lecture. Stressful
If you're not one who is good at teaching yourself, find a prof that doesn't do flipped classroom. This class gives 4-6 hrs of video lecture a week+hrs of hw. In class, you mostly do practice problems. If you do take his class, make sure you actively participate, make study buddies, and get all hw points bc that's what will carry you through.
Dr. W is an amazing professor. If I could give him a 6 I would. He teaches a difficult subject, but he always does his best to make sure everyone succeeds. If you really hate flipped classrooms, maybe he won't be the professor for you, but he's still really good at being available outside of class and answering questions.
Avoid this professor if you can, he teaches using a "flipped classroom" style which takes up 90% of your time. His tests are just hard in general and his extra credits or points back on his exams don't help much, and don't expect curves. He's a tough grader and assigns really long videos to watch through all the while having to grasp the concept.
I did not take AP chemistry in high school yet still ended up with a 98 in the class! Lots of ALEKS homework, but it definitely helps prepare for exams. The class is very hard but I ended with such a high grade because I worked my tail off. Get ready to work hard!
Thought I would hate flipped classroom but was incredibly beneficial for reviewing concepts that you didn't get right away. By no means is this an easy class, many struggle and his tests tend to be harder than other profs but they are manageable if you study. No curves on anything. Extremely lenient with due dates so get notes done after class.
He makes chemistry more difficult than it needs to be. He uses a flipped classroom; hours worth of videos just to understand his actual lecture, beneficial for review though. Exams are insanely harder than the exams of other CHEM119 classes. Very kind, but if you want an easier A and more time for other subjects don't take this professor.
Great professor, I never took AP Chemistry in high school and I still did fine in the class. I've never been good in science and I ended up with a C, only because I messed up on the early portions of my lab. If it wasn't for lab I would've gotten a B in the class, and my exam average was a 65. Lots of homework but helped me a lot. Flipped classroom
I cannot express enough how much of an amazing professor Dr. Weitzel is. He was very kind and patient with students who don't understand. If you asked him a question, he will sit there with you for as long as you need to understand. He made me want to understand chemistry and he genuinely cares so much about his students. I am so grateful for him.
CHEM 119 is a hard class but Dr. Weitzel makes it manageable! He rounded my 79.6 to a B, without me even reaching out. He is very kind and fair in his grading and offers a lot of extra credit. Lecture time is primarily working through iClicker problems so be sure to be familiar with the material being taught before coming to class.
Dr. W is honestly so amazing! He made a hard and lecture heavy class enjoyable. His lectures can be boring sometimes but Iclicker questions or pretty simple. I was worried about the flipped classroom but I thought it was easy to be prepared. Do the mock exams and go to office hours!
DR. W WAS AMAZING! Although chem is a hard class, he was always there to help students when they asked. Weitzel's class is very workload heavy, but it really helped in the long run as I was able to practice more & familiarize myself with the course material. He also had office hrs after class everyday which helped so much (I recommend going)
Chem itself is such a heavy loaded class but Dr. W did a great job of making the concepts understandable. He has a flipped classroom teaching style with LOTS of homework, but I will say that was what allowed me to grasp chem as much as I did. He offers many opportunities to earn extra credit & he is also super caring & understanding. He's the best!
Weitzel made me realize I love chemistry. He is fantastic. That being said, do not take this class if you won't have time to watch hours of video outside of class (since it's a flipped class). If you find you work better self paced/more independent, this class is for you. You HAVE to put in the work, but it pays off in the end.
Dr.Weitzel was an awesome professor! He was super accessible outside of class, made sure to respond to emails, and was approachable/caring. However, be prepared to put in consistent effort! Aside from lab assignments there are iClicker questions he'll sometimes assign outside of class, participation questions, ALEKS, and lecture videos.
Dr weitzel is literally the best prof I have ever taken. This class was def super challenging but he made it not bad at all. He is very kind and lenient with his students and I 100% recommend taking him.
Dr W. was an amazing Chem 119 professor. Beware it is a flipped classroom, and you will be required to watch "lecture videos" and complete homework all outside of class. Actual lecture was used to practice and review. So, time and effort have to be given. He is very clear on what he expects from his students and willing to help out when needed.
The flipped classroom was not for me. As much as I love chemistry, this class made my semester incredibly stressful, as the amount of time needed for this class took away much needed time from my other stem classes. Would have much rathered he teach in person versus through youtube videos.
He's a really nice and caring professor. Does not want his students to fail and will make sure that no one is as long as you are completing all the homework and doing the extra credit. I failed (D-F) all of his exams and still ended with a B so just study and try your best he is a very sweet and encouraging professor. Gives a lot of EXTRA CREDIT!!!
Dr. W was a really great professor who took effort in making sure every student could understand the material. He is very easy to reach and very quick in responding to questions. His class is a flipped classroom that took some time to get used to, but his videos were very easy to follow and informative as long as you can set aside the time.
Mr. Weitzel moves A LOT faster and advanced than Edwards in the content. The flipped classroom requires a lot of your time to be taken by these videos, however he does have many office hours. The tests are somewhat challenging, but the practice exams do help. If you took Chem before, this class would be good. If you are new, its a boatload.
WEITZEL IS AN AWESOME PROF! Some people think he goes too fast in lectures, but he paces the class very well. A LOT of material but the work he assigns makes sure you understand the material. iClicker (in-class) is a big grade supporter. He is a very caring and intelligent professor. You will do well if you complete the work and go to class.
Absolutely loved the flipped classroom style. Dr.W knows what he is talking about and is genuinely so passionate that it makes me like chemistry. Exams weren't too difficult if you studied and went to office hours. Aleks wasn't hard either. Overall a great professor.
Attendance was mandatory with I clicker. Hard exams much harder than practice exam. Flipped classroom which I hated. Exams that would try to trick you. The way the class is set up its easy to get a B but not an A. Do not slack off with lab especially lab reports. Go see ta's. He didn't not explain things well in office hours & lots of hw.
He was a really nice guy who really wanted us to do well! However if you are taking CHEM 119 you should find another professor, because he gives free response exams while majority others give multiple choice exams. Also his lecture style was flipped leaving us to watch close to 3 hour videos the night prior to class. Just not my style of learning.
I love Dr. W as a person, but his teaching style isn't for me. You have to watch his lecture videos before class to somewhat understand the material. His exams are free-response, making it very difficult to even get partial credit if you don't know how to start the question. He will teach you one way and expect you to do it backward on the exam.
I loved Professor Weitzel! He is SO kind and understanding, and is really rooting for all his students to succeed. He drops low grades, offers extra credit, and his lectures are super helpful. I couldn't recommend him enough, especially for students that aren't that comfortable with chemistry!
He is a really great professor overall. He's good at teaching the material as well as super kind and understanding. I would really recommend him!
Although many people don't like his flipped style classroom, if you don't put the lecture videos off then its not bad. They contain a lot of sample problems, so if they're too long just don't watch all the questions. Dr. W is also extremely caring; he held extra office hours and gave extra credit often! If you try the class is very enjoyable!
Dr. Weitzel is a genuinely kind professor. He made me realize I like Chem! He is responsive and understanding if you reach out and offers a lot of opportunities to get better. Effort is 100% what will get you a good grade. Do the mock exams, practice questions, and make friends! Having a group will help you so much for iClicker questions.
He gives opportunities to improve your grade and is very helpful and understanding
Weekly ALEKs, Canvas Tues/Thurs, iClicker every class. Buffer on all (75% correct gets you full points). 3exams and final, final will replace lowest exam grade. Free response exams with LOADS of partial credit. Office hours are helpful, very detailed. Challenging course, he rewards effort heavily. 10/10 prof. Favorite educator I've had.
Dr. W is the sweetest and he is very passionate about his students and chemistry. The test are pretty hard and I almost got a B, but he is a very fair grader and offers good test to assignment ratio. I think if you are willing to work hard, have good attendance, do all extra credit/ participation assignments, and study hard you can do well!
Dr. Weitzel is such a nice guy. However, the reversed classroom was very time-consuming. The exams were difficult, but chem is, so you just have to know what you are doing and have A LOT of practice. Go to office hours for any questions you have; he will answer with so much grace. The chem lab is not gracious and can bring down your grade quickly!
Dr.W is an extremely kind professor who truly wants you to succeed. There is a good amount of homework, but there are grade cushions on homework, canvas assignments, and iClicker that can greatly boost your grade if you do not preform great on exams. Also, his exams (besides the final) are almost entirely open ended where he assigns partial credit.
He was so amazing! He gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. If you do the aleks and canvas participation on time they are basically free 100s. You need to watch his videos before going to lecture so you aren't confused. He cares about all his students and wants all of us to succeed.
Cares about his students. Lecture video and homework heavy. Lecture videos are 20 min to an hour long, ALEKS homework due every Monday/Wednesday, Canvas homework due every Tuesday/Thursday. Tests are mostly free response but he gives out a lot of partial credit. Office hours are extremely helpful. Dr. Witzel will get you ready for CHEM 120.
Dr. W was a great professor and I enjoyed his class even though I don't like chemistry. He was easily accessible and truly wanted each student to succeed. He has a flipped classroom model so it is a heavy load outside of class. But he gives lots of partial credit on his exams and there are enough grades to help if you aren't a good test taker.
Amazing professor, hard class in general. Class is structured so that your grade reflects your effort, multiple chances on assignments. He does flipped classroom, so lectures are videos and in class is practice problems. He gives grace periods on assignments, but don't use it or you will be behind. The lab TAs grade harsh.
An absolutely AMAZING professor, not only is he brilliant but he is also so kind & caring. Chem 119 is a tough class but Dr. Weitzel works hard to make sure all his students succeed. His class is flipped classroom but honestly it is nice to have those resources to go back to before an exam. I would take him for any chem class if he taught them all!
Weitzel is an amazing professor that cares a ton about his students! Make sure to watch lecture videos before class since he does not slow down. His tests aren't that bad after doing the homework a few times. Although its a moderately tough class, he does round some grades up at the end and will prepare you for harder college courses!
Dr. W is an excellent professor and really cares for his students. I personally love his flipped classroom style, but it does require quite a bit of time outside of class. He provides excellent material and has lots of office hours. I think his tests were a bit harder than other profs, but he is still totally awesome!
Dr. W is so flexible, nice, and extremely caring. He did whatever he could to provide extensions and credit for the class. However, there's a TON of weekly videos, ALEKS, and iClicker matters. He gives grace periods for everything though. He truly wants you to learn and is always open to help, there are endless opportunities to get help. Take him!!
Weitzel is a wonderful professor and if you put in the effort, you will get an A. Lots of Aleks, Canvas Assignments, Videos, but all will prepare you well for exams. He explains topics very clearly and you will feel confident in your knowledge if you practice and take good notes from his online videos. Know this is a flipped class so takes time.
Dr. Weitzel was amazing! I can't recommend him enough for someone looking for a good foundation in chemistry. Lots of homework, but it's for your benefit. He loves the class, the topic, and cares about you doing your best. If you are consistent, you will make a great grade! He posts videos and has lots of office hours too!
I would recommend everyone to take this class with him if possible. He truly does care about the success of his students! He is a strong lecturer, and I liked the flipped classroom style. Stay on top of the videos, do the homeworks, and work hard! He rewards hard work, he offers extra credit, curves test, and is really available outside of class!
Dr W was super understanding all the time. His class was pretty difficult considering it was chemistry, but he gave extra credit opportunity and made learning enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.
Dingus used flipped classroom. It is great for extra materials but expected us to watch 3 ish hours of his youtube videos before class, and then would go over a few practice problems during class. This would have been fine except attendance was mandatory so you had to be in lecture even though he wasnt teaching concepts. Class was not difficult.
I really enjoyed Weitzel as a professor. Such a nice guy. I didnt take AP chem so this class was very difficult. I never made below an A on tests in HS and this class had me with C's a lot. I studied everyday but got an A bc there are many places to earn easy points for the class. If you do your work, tests should be the only thing thats not a 100
One of the nicest professors Ive ever had at this school. He gave so many extra credit opportunities and genuinely wanted everyone to do as well as they can in class. That being said it was a very hard class and the flipped classroom style required a lot of work. Content is hard but he gives so many rescourses. I couldnt recommend him enough!
Dr. Weitzel was one of the best professors I have ever had! He was very caring and tried to give back as many points as possible. He had a flipped class so you were expected to know the material before classes. Although his exams were a bit difficult his teaching style made it easy if you practiced. I truly could not recommend him enough!
Prof W was very passionate about chemistry and definitely wanted us to succeed and would do many things to help us out if we were struggling. SOO much work though. It was a flipped style so we had 3ish hours of videos to watch before every class, weekly ALEKS that took hours and attendance was mandatory but he just solved more practice problems.
Dr. W is an extremely kind, caring, and passionate professor! He rewards consistent effort and participation and you can earn a LOT of points from doing the ALEKS assignments and iClicker questions in class so definitely do as much as you can. His tests are very challenging if you haven't taken AP Chem in high school (lots of free response)!
Great prof, but his class is very lecture heavy and he puts a lot of very long videos on canvas.
You can tell Professor Weitzel really cares about his students. His flipped classroom style of teaching does have a lot of homework because of long lecture videos to watch, but the teaching was so in depth and made it a lot easier for me to understand the concepts. Would absolutely recommend him to anyone who struggles with chemistry.
You can tell that Dr. Weitzel truly cares about his students. He uses a flipped classroom style of teaching, which means a lot of work outside of class, but it is very helpful to be able to work at your own pace to understand the concepts. He gives extra credit when needed, and there is a lot of opportunity for partial credit on exam questions.
He is the best teacher I had my freshman year. I loved the flipped classroom style (if you don't don't take him), as lectures could go my pace. He gave many opportunities for extra credit, and always wants his students to succeed. Very accessible outside of class and will work with you to schedule extra office hours if you need.
Dr. W is the BEST for chem 119. His class is a flipped classroom, which was a huge adjustment coming in as a freshman, but I found I actually preferred it! His test were free response, but he was so gracious with partial credit. The outside class time for this class is very demanding, lots of long lecture videos and online homework, but helpful.
I really did like Dr. Weitzel! His class is flipped classroom style, so if that doesn't work for you then don't take him. You do have to watch some pretty lengthy videos before going to class, but they are helpful in understanding the content. Tests are almost all opened ended, but its very easy to earn partial credit for problems (helped my grade)
Dr. Weitzel deserves the highest rating you can give him. He is SO kind and caring, ALWAYS accessible, and he truly cares about you learning the material. While you do have to watch 4-6 hours of videos per week, you actually LEARN the material. I got a 99 in the class and it was all because of this professor, not because I'm good at chemistry.
Dr. Weitzel is an amazing professor! He is one of those professors that cares a lot about his students and their sanity. His classroom is flipped which means you have to watch occasionally long lecture videos outside of class. This is useful, though, because during class we go over sooooo many example questions. His reviews are similar to exam.
For me, Chem 119 was hard because I did not take AP Chem. But Weitzel made it much easier! His office hours are SUPER helpful and it definitely prepared me for the exams. Overall, he is a very nice and sweet professor. You can tell he knows what he's talking about as well.
Chem 119 is not easy in the slightest but Dr. Weitzel is a good professor that really explains and cares, you just have to pay very close attention. Don't skip class because you might get behind. Highly recommend getting A+ tutoring from the start, I wish I had gotten it earlier.
This class was a reality check for me. All of his tests are open ended and sometimes worded in a strange way. His lectures were very useful and he is accessible outside of class, which helped me a lot. Go to SI Sessions!! I think he curved our final, which was multiple choice. Study the ALEKS a lot and the exam reviews!
Dr. Weitzel was a great professor! He clearly cares about his students' education and is pretty generous with extra credit. He has a flipped-classroom format, so you watch lecture videos and come to class to do iClicker. His exams also include free-response (which allows you to get partial credit) while other profs generally have only MCQ.
Dr. W was a great prof. This is a flipped class which means you'll be watching 2-5 hours of lecture videos before class each week. His tests are moderate and written response until the final but he gives lots of extra/partial credit. Watch the lecture videos and go to office hours and/or SI sessions if you have questions and you'll do fine.
Hes the GOAT.
Great professor! The class is flipped style so prepare for long video lectures before each class, but I believe this helped me even more because we then spent all of our time in class going over practice problems to make sure you get an understanding of the material. He also gives extra credit, mock exams, and review sessions for extra practice.
Don't take him if you can't do switched learning. You have to learn the material outside of class and go into class expected to know it. He only goes over questions in class. The videos are like 45-1 hour long and there's like 3-4 videos and hw assignments a week. It's only beneficial if you've taken AP chem if not, consider another professor!!!
Switched learning style for this class, optional videos to watch before each lecture WHICH HELP TONS. I did not listen to his advice on watching the videos and failed my first two exams. For my third, I finally caved and watched all the lecture videos before class, scored a 93. He gives AMAZING advice and clearly wants his students to succeed.
Very good professor, but be warned it is a flipped classroom style so you have to be ready to watch video outside of class. The tests are very straight forward and are like his mock exams he gives. He offers SO much extra credit and it is not hard to make an A. Make sure to follow along with the examples he gives in class. He so so sweet!!
As a person he is the sweetest guy ever, but when it comes to teaching he is not the best option. The flipped classroom is super hard to keep up with because there is 3-6 hours of notes posted a week. His test averages were super bad and he had to start giving us extra credit so that everyone wasnt failing.
Dr. W is an amazing professor, he made CHEM119 super easy! He made sure he was accessible outside of class, especially before and after exams. The course is "flipped classroom" style, watch videos outside of class, do mostly problems in class. There are no quizzes, only exams and homework (some would say there's a lot of homework).Take his class!
This is one of the kindest professors I've had. He really cares for all of his students, but he does have a flipped classroom format (which means you could have 2+ hrs of lecture videos for one lecture that week) and a decent amount of homework (about 3-4 hours per week). Attendance is mandatory, and tests are MCQ, but very challenging.
Pretty great guy overall, you had to go to class for the iClicker, but they were easy and he gave the answers at the end anyway. Exams are 20 questions multichoice and they're not too hard if you do the homework or go to office hours. He doesn't give a lot of extra credit but still appreciated.
Professor Weitzel is the best professor I have ever worked with. You can tell he loves all his students and really wants them to succeed. I loved the flipped classroom because it allowed me to go at my own pace. Lectures go over practice questions but he does briefly go over concepts as well. He has long office hours and is a very helpful professor
He cares so much about his students and genuinely wants the to succeed.
Dr. W is an amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and takes lots of time explaining and going through practice problems. He uses a flipped classroom, so the lecture videos are pretty lengthy and take a lot of time to get through. He offers just about every extra credit point for exams and through iClicker.
Dr. W made it super easy to succeed in his class. It is a flipped class, but it's not hard to stay on track. Watch all the videos and take notes on them. Some get pretty long, but you can play them on 2x speed and still understand them. He is a very caring professor and also gives extra credit with each exam. So far, my favorite professor.
This is handsome goat. He is so handsome. His eyes make me one to go to class. They sparkle so bright.
Super chill guy who genuinely loves what he's doing. He cares a lot about the students, wants them to succeed, gives extra credit, and a ton of resources. He puts tons of effort into his videos and participation and it's clear that he puts a ton of time into them.
He's a good person who genuinely cares about his students, but he isn't the best professor. You have to teach yourself the material, you'll have no time for other classes due to the workload, and will struggle if you didn't take AP chem. Gives extra credit tho and is very accessible
Dr. Weitzel is very nice and helpful, but he has a flipped classroom. You have to watch hours of lecture videos outside of class and do iClicker the entire class time.
I loved taking chemistry from Dr Weitzel; he was rooting for us to succeed and gave us resources to do so! He used a flipped approach where we watched lecture videos outside of class on out own time (we was nice because of the ability to speed up, skip, slow down, and rewatch) and then in class we went over problems related to the content.
Dr. Weitzel is a great professor who cares about his students and is clearly passionate about chemistry. Lectures aren't mandatory, but they're engaging and helpful for understanding course material and earning extra credit. There's a lot of homework, but it is ultimately a huge boost to your grade. Dr. W is also very accessible via office hours.
He genuinely cares about every single student, a lot. Chem is just a hard subject in general so most of the negative ratings are just people who didn't do well. Was a flipped class, between that and the lab there was about 10 assignments a week, so big work load and if you don't understand the material as it's being taught you'll be behind.
Professor W is amazing! He cares about all of his students and is extremely accessible and helpful. His flipped classroom style can be time consuming and difficult for some, but if this learning style works for you then take him!!!
Dr. Weitzel helped me realize that I might actually enjoy chemistry. He has flipped lectures and exams were a bit tricky but he was very very generous with extra credit points.
Dr. W is genuinely the best professor I've ever had, this man does everything he can to prepare his students for success. Although time-consuming, the videos are incredibly helpful and worth watching. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to have taken AP Chem to do well in this course, I didn't and I did well. He really rewards effort!
Prof Weitzel is super caring and kind, however his flipped class style was hard. His lecture videos needed to learn the material before going to class are usually 2, 45 min-1 hour videos at the beginning of the course and get longer as the semester goes on, at the end, 2 or 3- 1.5 hours long. *HARD EXAMS. Overall a hard class but a kind man.
I loved Professor Weitzel! I was really scared for Chemistry but his formatting (flipped classroom style) was really suited for me and helped me learn a lot of the content at my own pace. He is so kind and helpful during office hours, and gives a TON of extra credit. Highly recommend!
The flipped classroom he had wasn't the best for me, most of the time I didn't watch the lecture videos until right before the test and did ok (wouldn't recommend you do that). Has a lot of extra credit that can boost your grade a decent amount, and the final can replace your lowest test score. Makes helpful practice exams before real ones as well.
Really amazing professor; uses flipped classroom style. Highly recommend watching his pre lecture vids; Lectures make way more sense if you do. He gives so many opportunities for extra credit and is very considerate of grades. Very easy to get ahold of and super available for office hours. Would absolutely take again.
Professor Weitzel is AMAZING. He wanted everyone to succeed and is willing to help students and answer all questions. The lab is the hardest part of this course. The professor has no control over it. He offers extra credit occasionally and teaches in a reverse style where you watch the lectures before class. Make sure you don't get behind.
While the flipped lecture style didn't work for me, I still passed. Prof. Weitzel is a great guy and is easy to communicate with. He tries his hardest to accommodate everyone and will change office hours if enough people ask. The extra credit was helpful for the grade and for studying. The office hours are insanely helpful so make sure you attend.
Mr. Weitzel uses a flipped classroom, which I did not enjoy. The videos were very long and boring, so it was hard to stay engaged while watching. He was a very nice teacher, I just didn't enjoy how he formatted his class. He does offer some extra credit.
Lecture is flipped style, meaning you watch videos online before class and work on problems during class. His problems were helpful in understanding the material. Very accesible outside the classroom. He also gives extra credit which is very helpful.
