Dr. Burke is my favorite professor! She is very chill and helpful. The material is easy to understand and you have to keep up with the reading. She has lab hours that you can earn extra credit on. The class is great, and so is Burke so be sure to get her!
She is the rudest teacher i've ever had. she thinks everyone in her class is going to be an anthropology major. She puts the class down when everyone does poorly rater than finding ways to help the class out and make things a little simpler.
This class is supposed to be an intro course but is taught like it is a senior level class. She assigns insane workloads and blames the students when assignments aren't completely understood or done perfectly.
Dr. Burke is an incredible teacher with a great sense of humor and a superior knowledge of her subject. Her sarcasm keeps you awake in the morning. I would recommend her to anyone thinking about taking Anthropology.
Overall, a pretty good class. Not too difficult if you come to class. Tests and quizes aren't the easiest, but the assignments are where you'll get most of your points, and those can be simple to do.
She is cool but can be rude at times. If you take her class you better be ready to work. I would recommend taking her class if you like studying. Over all she is ok
This class was awful and so was she as a professor. The workloads and exams are ridiculously difficult and she is not helpful at all. I would not recommend her for any class.
This class is incredibly informative and so interesting. The class is fair, its not easy but its also not difficult, if you are willing to put the time and effort into the class you'll do well. Chrissina is a great teacher but sometimes perceived otherwise by people who take the class expecting an easy A.
I really enjoyed this class! The information was interesting most of the time although not what I expected from the title. Chrissina is awesome! She can be a little blunt/seemingly rude sometimes but she is a great professor who really cares about her students. I would definitely recommend her, just be prepared to work. It is not an easy class.
She is nice just be ready to work in her class.
She's a really great professor. She offers a lot of extra credit and explains everything in detail or at least explains what we need to know for the exam. Her review questions are life savers for the exam. The book is needed for review quizzes and exams. She's one of my favorite professors at NAU.
She was especially helpful when I asked questions. She is very helpful and she does make you work for the grade.
Burke was great -- she facilitated productive discussions and made an effort to include everybody and their interests. This class fills up quickly, and I would gladly take it again.
If you don't enjoy profound language, or sometimes a little rudeness then don't take this class. On the other hand it makes class enjoyable and you will always want to show up. She is fair and really clear on assignments. As long as you keep up with weekly readings, attend class, and take notes this class is very doable.
Dr. Burke was extremely strict at the beginning of the semester... almost thought about dropping because of the climate of disrespect she established. However, I'm glad i stuck with this course-- she is a fantastic professor when she lightens up. Fascinating lectures and a great sense of humor. Don't let sergeant Burke scare you away!
She is amazing!! She is tough but with great reason! She supports students so much and her toughness is to help teach and guide students how to be more successful in college. I wish I was an Anthropology major so I could take more classes with her!!
Dr. Burke makes even the most boring of topics incredibly interesting, and her class is always fun! If you like cursing and witty sarcasm, this is the professor for you!
She's hilarious and entertaining. Assignments and tests can be tough/long. Study in advance and read everything. As any teacher, she expects you to do the work and work for it, as you should in college. Great teacher, would recommend!
Literally the most amazing professor. If you have the chance to take her class, do it. She's hilarious and her classes will change your life
Burke is the greatest! She's available to help any student at any time and she is extraordinarily passionate about the topics she teaches. I agree with most, if not all, of her points of views. She makes you work and earn your grade the way a good instructor should, but don't forget that she's working 10x harder than you behind the scenes. Amazing!
Dr. Burke is awesome came in worried I was going to hate taking BioAnt. LOVED IT. She's witty and funny but hella smart! That woman can teach. She will most definitely make you think and never force her own thoughts on you. Easy workload if you attend class and do the reading, most likely ace the exams if you do the chapter readings so get the book.
I, personally, loved Dr. Burke. She is absolutely hilarious! It is important to develop good short-hand because she does talk pretty fast though. Her class is very easy as long as you do the work, which isn't a lot. Reading quizzes are easy if you do the reading and she does do review questions and they are extremely helpful when it comes to exams.
I really enjoyed this Anthropology class, I thought that ANT101 would be extremely boring and difficult, however I was glad to have enrolled! Dr. Burke is really passionate about her topic, has experience in the field, and is willing to give to give extra help. Not to mention she is down to earth! She assigns lots of work though so work hard!
Dr. Burke is hilarious, keeps the class interesting while also caring so much about her students success. One of the best teachers I've ever had honestly! She offers a lot of extra credit, as well as optional lab and office hours! I recommend this class to all my friends.
She's funny but her material is tough, I guess if you are an Anthro major you'll enjoy this class, but all I have to say is you better have something in common with her, because if you don't you basically don't exist! She cusses a lot so thats cool... Heres another tip, you're better off taking BIO 181 as a liberal requirement !!!!!
Professor Burke is an amazing professor. Her lectures and assignments are always very clear, interesting, and concise. She always has her doors open to help those who are confused. Burke is incredibly knowledgeable. She is relateable and is the funniest professor I have had. There is quite a bit of reading and a few assignments.
Amazing professor! Lots of exams, but they're mostly to buffer your grade. Exams are a mix of m/c, short answer, T/F, and essay to ensure success for different test takers. Clearly cares about her students and is passionate about her field. She cusses A LOT, which I find hilarious and engaging, but if that's not for you, pick a different professor.
Amazing professor. Her passion for Anthropology made me add an anthro. major. She really pushes students to do their best. She is willing to help and provides amazing feedback. Her lecture were never boring. Would take again in a heart beat.
She's honestly one of the best professors I've had so far and I'm not even an Anthropology major or minor. If you do the reading and pay attention in class, you'll do fine. There are a bunch of different species you need to know but she makes it easy to identify which is which. Love her, definitely taking her classes again.
This is the second class I have taken with Dr. Burke and I absolutely recommend. She is hilarious and manages to keep the lecture interesting even on days when the subject matter is dull. Skull Wars is a compelling read and her tests are very passable as long as you take notes in class and study the terms and review questions every week.
By far the best professor I have had at NAU. Keeps her lectures interesting and cares for her students and helps them succeed. I'm not even an ANT major and I have taken two classes from her. She is an inspiration and extremely understandable and compassionate. Only professor I would recommend to other students. Take notes, show up. Worth it!!!!
Ms. Burke is kind and respectful, and she responded to my emails within 24 hours. This class has a bit of reading, so make sure to take good notes, or get the eBook for better studying and referencing for assignments. The tests have some short answer (2-3 sentences) and essay questions (2-3 paragraphs), so try to work at a consistent pace.
Read chapters before coming to class, do chapter quizzes, watch the videos & do the journals, copy review questions at end of the week, TAKE ALL EXTRA CREDIT YOU CAN GET Only used textbook for at home quizzes & review questions in class. Super strict. Follow syllabus. Funny & made class interesting. Avoid if sensitive to curse words & lewd jokes.
Dr. Burke is an amazing teacher! She is hilarious and will keep you on your toes! You will learn something in this course, and she gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit! Take those & use those to your advantage! Also, she offers open lab times in the Bilby Lab. Make sure to go to those to help reinforce what is being taught.
Dr. Burke knows her stuff but she also doesn't take any nonsense. She has a lot of assignments but they all focus of different things in order to help different needs. She also cussed the most out of all the professors I've had so far so get ready for that.
One of the worst (if not the worst) professor I've ever had the extreme displeasure of being in contact with. Professionalism, modesty and discretion are things of the past! She gives no meaningful feedback, no heads up in the class, and is over all useless. If you're planning on taking this requirement, save your time and money. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Dr. Burke is such an amazing professor! She provides clear and specific expectations in her class, and provides all information to succeed. Everything that she assigns serves a purpose to further the student's knowledge. If you pay attention in class, do the readings, you're set. Dr. Burke is also super nice, funny, and cares about her students.
The most hilarious professor I have ever taken, she makes the class very fun and the material very interesting.
Dr. Burke is THE BEST. Yes, she curses. Yes, she makes questionable jokes. Yes, she gets off topic. But that is WAY better than having some monotoned 70 year old dude lecturing at you 3 times a week. She made her class feel safe, enjoyable, and worth while. Average amount of weekly work and readings, but nothing to complain about. Take her class!!!
She does curse a lot, but that's okay. She encourages reading the book so you can understand the material better. She can come off as rude and unhelpful, but when it comes down to it you realize it is your fault. Overall, she's a good teacher and knows her material. There are 2 video viewings, quizzes, & class work, also she posts the lectures.
Dr. Burke is a good professor, she knows her stuff. If you take this class just know there is a lot of reading and group presentations. The group presentations are not as bad as they seem. You literally just have one person talk about a part of the debate or during the site reports. You will get your views challenged especially during the debates.
Chrissina really knows her stuff, and she manages to make a not-so-interesting-topic fun. I am not even an anthropology major or minor, but her teaching style made it easy. All you have to do is show up and do the assignments and you will be fine. She also gives A LOT of extra credit opportunities, and is very understanding.
Professor Burke is relatable and HILARIOUS. She genuinely cares about her students and doesn't take life too seriously it seems. Inspirational, I really hope to be a professor like her someday. But this writing class isn't one where you can slack off or half-ass - you WILL fail.
First off, if you can't handle cussing--don't take her class. I thought it made her more down to earth and relatable to the average college student. Her class is EASY to pass if you show up to class and turn in things on time. She gives out PLENTY of extra credit oppurtunities to boost your grade. She got teacher of the year for a reason!!
she's really annoying and kinda pretentious. If you like her humor then you'll like the class, if you don't it will be really sucky. If you ask her anything she just tells you to read the syllabus even if it isn't on there. Don't recommend
Dr. Burke is easily the best lecturer at NAU. She is constantly engaging with her students and offers many tools to help understand the content. If you are sensitive to cursing and lewd-ish jokes, grow up because you are in college and an adult.
Dr. Burke is a great professor. She actually made me like this class when I didn't think I would. The lectures are entertaining and engaging. I would definitely recommend Dr. Burke and this class.
Dr. Burke is absolutely incredible. Her lectures are both entertaining and informative. This class is based heavily on group work and she expects that you not only collaborate with one another but also work thoroughly on your own. She is strict on knowing what is to be expected out her students... so read the syllabus carefully before asking.
Great class! Very few big assignments. The lecture slides are accessible online. One thing I didn't like is that if you add this class late, every day you weren't there since the first day is counted as an absence. So joining this class late puts you at a disadvantage regarding attendance grades.
She provides all reading material and all information needed to succeed. Pay attention and study, you will do great. She is an amazing teacher who genuinely cares about her students. I would take any class taught be her!
Dr. Burke is probably the most engaging teacher I've had! The lectures were to the point and easy to follow. the group work helped a lot in learning. she was hilarious and was also caring and answered any questions that the students had.
Dr. Burke is a great anthropology instructor. She made class fun with her lectures and commentary. ANT 101 is a very work heavy, but it's necessary to pass the class and can be done if work is separate day by day. So many extra credit opportunities and is generous with deadlines. Take ANT 101 with her. You won't regret it.
Professor Burke's class made my mornings tbh. I'm always excited to go to her classes and listen to her lectures. She handled teaching during a pandemic better than any other professor and is constantly learning about how to be a better teacher. Professor Burke respects and values the input of all of her students. PLEASE take this course!
Professor Burke made teaching in a pandemic seem really easy. Her lectures are very informational and her commentary is hilarious. She really makes you feel welcome in her class. I would recommend this class!
She is an amazing professor and the class content is very interesting. Definitely recommend!
Professor Burke is the best professor I have ever had. She makes the class extremely fun and engaging. You can tell she really cares for her students as she gives mental health days and checks up on every student. Definitely recommend her for ANT. As long as you pay attention in class you will get a great grade.
Great and funny professor. A good amount of busy work but pretty quick and easy. Tests and quizzes come directly from on lectures and slides so it's important to take good notes and pay attention. Overall easy class and fun to take. Show up, do the work, and you will pass and probably get an easy A.
really fun class and easy to follow if you show up
I loved Dr. Burke. She has been my favorite professor at NAU. This class was fairly easy- there was a lot of dense reading, but almost no busy work. She really cares about her students success and her class is more oriented to learning rather than grades. If you show up and read you will do well.
Loved her class. She is not afraid to talk about hard topics and get the class involved in discussion. Cares for her students, gives mental health breaks. Does not make tests overwhelming
So. Much. Busywork. Dr. Burke believes that you should be working every credit hour, even if no professor actually does that. There's just not enough material to work on for that much time. So get ready for group work, she'll also dock your grade and humiliate you in front of class for not doing it right, but give no instructions on how to fix it.
Dr. Burke is an amazing professor. She might seem like a lot at first but she is one of the most knowledgeable and caring professors out there. Lectures are great, lots of EC, exams won't break your grade and are rather easy if you refer to your notes. Take this class - whether you are an anthro student or not!
Dr. Burke is one of the most caring professors I've ever met. You get mental health days, grace periods, and extra credit assignments. She teaches the content in a manner that helps you learn and actively engages you in the class. Only thing that sucked was group assignments, but Burke is a great professor.
My first day in her class I was unsure but she turned out to be one of the best professors I have had at NAU. You will be put in a group of 4-5 people and HAVE to participate in group work. The group work is not hard at all and I really enjoyed having a group. There's about 3 mental health days. She usually will excuse personal mental health-days.
Hands down my favorite class and favorite professor. Highly recommend her :)
Dr. Burke very quickly became my favorite teacher of the semester. She is funny, caring, and entertaining. She makes class easy to look forward to and the work is fairly simple as well. 100% recommend taking a class by her and I certainly will be taking a class with her again in the future.
Dr. Burke very quickly became my favorite professor of the semester. She is hilarious, caring, easy going and very entertaining to listen to. She makes you want to come to class every day and the work is really easy too. I 100% recommend taking a class by her and I will absolutely be taking one by her again in the future.
Class was pretty easy. There are weekly group vocab pages that need to be done, but other than that pretty much the entire grade is dependent on tests and attendance..
shes funny
I really did not think I would be interested in anthro since I was only taking this class for applied science credits, but it ended up being the class I looked forward to the most. The groupwork is a little annoying but none of the assignments are hard. She is so funny and it's clear she cares for all her students. My fav professor at NAU so far.
Too much hcore feminazi brainwashing. I get that wammin social science = anti western and anti young men but urggh, just too much feels and not enough facts. Poli sci elective objectively a better time.
I absolutely loved Dr. Burke's class! she's hilarious and it's easy to understand her lectures. She also really cares about her students, and the way she teaches it's to benefit the students so it'll be easier for them to learn. I'm sad that I won't have her next semester.
Dr Burke is incredible. She's super funny and is genuinely a great teacher, I always understood what she was talking about. The class is very group work heavy but it's not that bad, you have a study page you make with your group every two weeks plus a lot of discussion. She really cares about her students and is just great overall.
I liked Dr. Burke, but there are weekly group projects. I didn't have any problems with my group, but she is very understanding and has entertaining lectures. Definitely one of my favorite professors.
One of the best professors! Completely changed how I viewed Anthropology. Classwork is pretty basic and easy as long as you pay attention to lectures which isn't hard because Burke is really entertaining! There is group work every week, but it's only defining vocab. Burke is funny, interactive, and always willing to help her students. 10/10!!
Best professor ive had
Dr. Burke was an amazing professor, she really respects and cares about us students. There's quite a bit of homework, but it's normally really easy and quick to get done. She's always bringing all sorts of props and diagrams to class and that really made the class more enjoyable.
Dr. Burke was my favorite professor freshman year. I took ANT101 for my major but non-majors would really love it too. The info is valuable and applies to so many things, and she makes an effort to be funny and engaged and give interesting lecturs. Cares deeply about students, very accommodating. Mostly group work but it's bearable. 10/10
I have had Dr. Burke twice now and I love her so much. She is super easy, all of the assignments are fairly simple. Almost solely group work, so make sure you like ur groups. Definitely still study, but it's semi easy material. She is fantastic and so understanding.
Professor Burke is absolutely amazing! She is funny and just asks for participation. There are no right or wrong answers in this class. I highly recommend taking this class with Burke!!!
Dr. Burke is funny, caring and accommodating. Everything is done in group work, which is the only reason I'll rate the class a 3 in difficulty because my group didn't get along too well. Definitely plan ahead and choose your group members wisely. Lectures are captivating and easy to follow along with, and she's really passionate about anthropology.
Dr. Burke is incredible. Her lectures are engaging and she is hilarious. It is important to know that you will have to work with a group every single day of class. Pray you get lucky and get good group members. ANT101 is graded by an easy introduction, weekly group notes, 3 group discussion questions, 4 essay exams, and attendance.
I absolutely love Professor Burke. Her class is very enjoyable and she's hilarious. Very easy class because everything is done in groups, and the tests are activity based (ex: Jeopardy, Pictionary), so it makes learning fun, no textbooks required either. Just show up and participate and it's an easy A. She's very understanding as well.
The class was very easy, but not interesting. She basically just preaches her political beliefs the whole time and complains about white men. Her humor is pretty much just sexual jokes and cussing. She just doesn't seem very classy. All of the work is groupwork, so be ready for that.
Despite my engineering major, Professor Burke has made me consider minoring in anthropology. She is flexible in accommodating students' needs or problems and is caring for students' wellbeing outside of just grades and class. Her class is reasonable and straightforward; do the readings & provide some thoughts in discussion. Can be easy, fun or both
This professor is amazing. I typically dislike all lecture classes, but this was one of the very few enjoyable ones. If you come to class and work with your group to do the required assignments, you will pass. While this class is easy, you will learn a lot-- and often without even noticing it. I cannot praise this course enough.
Does not care about you whatsoever. All she did in her class was complain about her personal life. Absolutely horrible teacher
I've had Dr. Burke twice now, and it won't be the last time. She is a fantastic professor, and she tells you how it is. She genuinely cares about your well-being, and she wants you to succeed. She doesn't put up with nonsense, which, in my opinion, earns her more respect. This class was incredible.
I ADORE Dr.Burkes Class. I look forward to it, and it's the only class I'm sad to miss. The course content in interesting, and I appreciate her "no nonsense" approach. The class is based in groups, so be ready to work with others. That said, she's on your side when it comes to someone not doing their share.
Prof. Burke is by far the best professor I've ever had. She is incredibly funny and genuinely cares about her students. If you do the work, you will get an A, simple as that. There is a lot of group work, but most of your grade is not based on that, so again, just do your work and you will do great in her class.
