Probably the worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't lecture so much as ask useless questions to the class to which you can't hear the answers. Professor Scholtz is not easy, but the fact that her model of two midterms allows a student only to use the better mark allows people to speak to her and know her expectations for the second one. All questions were covered in readings or lectures. Know the readings well, take thorough notes, and avoid skipping lectures. Not an unreasonable prof.

Probably the worst teacher I have ever had at my years at Mcgill. Terrible lectures which she expects first year students to understand, I had a terrible TA who was quite useless, and difficult exam gradings. Overall just an unbearable experience.

One of the greatest profs I've had yet, lectures are very interesting and she always finds a way to make it captivating. As long as you show up to class and do the readings, you should be fine for the exams. She expects you to answer exams questions based on pretty basic elements and terms from class content, so pretty easy. Take her classes!

Prof Scholtz's intelligence and ability to make lectures feel like stories rather than just course material made poli222 easily my favorite class this semester. She's an awesome professor and I always looked forward to this class. I think the readings are reasonable, but crucial for exams, you cannot neglect them in this class!

Shcoltz was a very good lecturer, very engaging and interesting. However, good luck finding which terms will be on the exams, it is almost at random, grades awfully and terrible TAs. Just reading the texts assigned is not good enough, I had to go over each one of them for 2-3hours to get the main ideas, arguments and thesis.

HOWEVER you have around 60+ page readings a week that you MUST take notes on bc the exams are almost only on the readings. very hard exams (definitions + essay questions), study for weeks just to barely get a B. steer clear if ur fragile mentally lmao

Very good at the lectures and has a lot of interesting things to say. Lectures are heavy but fun. However, the midterm exams and the final very much focus on the readings only which is understandable, but many of her lectures do not mention the readings at all. It does feel like you are on your own.

Hands down the best Political Science professor I've had at McGill. Prof. Scholtz is kind, very accessible outside class and extremly knowledgeable in her field. Although the lectures can sometimes be content-heavy, they are extremely interesting. That isn't to say, however, that the class isn't difficult - be prepared to read and study a lot.

Worst prof in McGill. Her exams are either too specific (i.e constitution sections??) yet too broad. I tried my best to go to her office hours and understand her expectations, but it still didn't pay off. She should've made it open book or papers, because the content is too much for memorization. Her lectures don't match the exams, DONT TAKE.

Besides having large number of readings, her slides pictures - no notes whatsoever, and lectures aren't recorded (she'd be incomprehensible anyways). Missing a class is thus potentially 10% off your exam. The harsh grading criteria is preposterous and there is nothing you can really do to prepare. She also insists on hosting class in the dark??

Reviews are very divisive on her so I decided it would be valuable to provide a take. I took poli 221 with her which is admittedly a subject I'm already very interested in so there's the bias. Her lectures are recorded and very good. Reading heavy course but does a good job explaining in lecture. Very charismatic Downsides: heavy exams, hardish

Her reviews are definitely confusing...I just came to add that she is an amazing professor that is obviously very knowledgeable. However, her class is extremely tough for a 200-level. If you put in the work (which is a whole lot), it is doable. Exams are specific, which require you to know the material inside and out, so be sure to put in the work!

Although I learned a lot, this class was too hard for an intro course. Super reading heavy and basically based on memorization (we had to remember specific phrases from the Canadian constitution). The grading system was 1 midterm and a final, if you don't test well don't take a class with her (I've heard similar things from her other classes).

Coming from a student in her last year, this is definitely too challenging class for a 200 level. This is a very comprehensive course on the Canadian government so if that's your interest, go for it! But her exams are a LOTT of memorization, learning by heart sections of the constitution is very unecessary imo. Great lecturer, but unrealistic exams

Professor Scholtz is kind and definitely knowledgeable on the topic, but this class is NOT an intro class. Your final grade comprises your midterm and final (both are extremely hard). The grading criteria are unclear, and Professor Scholtz expects us to know the legal documents (i.e., the Constitution), the readings, and her lectures in detail.

Scholtz made me hate political science. She has two tests, midterm 45% and final 55%, but you are allowed two chances on the midterm. If you don't go to conferences you get -10% but if you attend you don't get anything. You have to basically support her arguments and know specific details of the Canadian Constitution which is bs, harder than my 300

She is a really nice teacher and she makes her lectures really enjoyable. She takes the best of the two midterms which is great and then there's a final. There are many readings but just search up the main argument and look what what she talks about on the readings in her slides and ur fine. Yes you have to study ur ass off to do well. Achievable.

The course relied on very tough to read, long articles, that you needed to keep up with weekly. The tests also rely on the readings and don't give much context about the reading just the author's name to jog memory making the exam tough. There are also mandatory conferences in addition to the lectures to not lose 15% on your final mark.

Great teacher! Her lectures are really well organized, and follow a clear train of thought that makes it really easy to study on. She explains what you need to know for the final, and what she expects you to study. For this 200-level class, the lectures were probably sufficient to get by with an A. Scholtz is a very demanding prof and this class is NOT an introductory class as said. She takes the best grade out of 2 midterms but they are both difficult as you have to be extremely precise in your answers as you can easily be penalized if you do not word a sentence correctly and as indicated in the material. Prof. Scholtz is an engaging lecturer, an uncommon trait in the poli department, she frames major events in Canadian politics in a succinct manner that leaves you feeling very informed. Her midterms/finals are based entirely on the readings so make cue cards, quizlet, notebook lm etc whatever you need to memorize readings and associated concepts

The entire grade is exams which are too specific (constitution sections, memorizing all authors, requiring you to know someone mentioned 1 time in a bad lecture). The grading is honestly very unfair, you are given little-to-no partial credit as she is looking for very specific wording, which she doesn't tell you beforehand. Don't take her courses.

The grading system is very bad, with 40 percent midterms and 60 percent finals. The attendance is mandatory for the conference but it can only remove points from your grade if you don't go. I got Bs on both the midterms, but only one counts, and the final was graded extremely harshly, and I got a 50 on it even though I was equally prepared.
