Dr. Manning is probably the most boring teacher I've had to date. She uses the same teaching methods for every class, which gets very repetitive.
Did not enjoy this professor. If she did not agree with your opinion on a paper you would get a bad grade. Thats not teaching, you should be entitled to your opinions.
Not the greatest teacher I've had. Very boring and she wears the same outfit to each class in the same week! gross

Probably one of the worst teachers here.. really hard and not fair in grading procedures.. tests are rediculously hard.. she just sucks.. flat out
I recieved a very good grade in this class, and I'm still telling you DO NOT TAKE HER!I'm a senior at Sacred Heart and she is by far the worst professor I have ever taken, and she's the department chair. That's VERY VERY sad! Don't take her!

Worse professor i have had at SHU in three years. Horrible lectures and she took a class that sounded like it would be interesting and turned it into a pittiful class.

very dull and boring. lectures put you to sleep. consists of reading boring texts. the only grades given are from 2 tests (midterm and final), a paper and a presentation. the final is a massive essay that requires a lot of preparation. shes not recommended. find somebody elsewhere..

She is terrible... She never stops talking which make you want to sleep. RS 219 is the worst class and Manning is the worst prof. i have had at SHU. STAY AWAY
she tries to scare you about the class. it is not hard but it is annoying. the midterm was hard if you dont read the three books she gives you but other than that just as long as you do the papers you should be ok. Do not take a block class with her it is horrible!
Don't take this professor. She is knowledgeable, but tries to intimidate the students by saying how difficult the material is, particularly the midterm -- not true if you take notes and read. Loves group work; 1 grade for all which does not work. Stay away. Always late; seems not to care.

Manning is very knowledgeable about her subject and it shows in her lectures. Sets an academic tone in Religion & Sexuality class and organizes regular group work to break up the lectures. If you approach the class seriously do the readings and pay attention she will give you the benefit of the doubt. Not a bad professor. Interesting subject.
she is so boring, puts me to sleep. ridiculously monotone and will start spacing out in the middle of a sentence. hard to hear because she mumbles. avoid her at all costs.

The class is extremely boring and the way she lectures does not help. Although, the group discussions can be interesting and insightful. One homework assignment per week, which can be long an annoying. Questions can also be unclear and difficult to find the answers in the books. 2 papers, midterm and final exam...no other tests or quizzes.
While this professor's teaching style may not be for everyone (70% lecture, 30% group/discussion), she is highly competent and very clear. She sticks to the syllabus and is highly qualified to teach the courses she offers. She will not baby her students so most SHU students find her difficult and "rude". I recommend her if you want to learn.
This was the most annoying class I have ever taken. Every class we had to form a circle and talk. I felt like I was in group therapy! This course required a lot of reading and there were 3 or 4 papers. No tests, but weeking homework assignments. I was miserable the entire semester and I am glad I survived. However, I did actually learn a lot.

Two papers, a midterm exam, and a final exam. However, the final was basically the midterm with more questions. Overall, not a bad class that wasn't too much work. But if you ever take her for honors, expect a lot more work. For non-honors students, it isn't too much work and is a pretty decent class
This course is split into two sections - lecture and discussion. The lecture is great. However, discussions become very repetitive and annoying. She also calls on people randomly which is extremely frustrating (especially, when one does not wish to speak)! 2 Essays (3-4 pages), 1 Final (open note). Also, you MUST do every reading (3 books) to pass!
Do NOT take Manning unless you want to take a reading quiz every week and have a group discussion every class. Very boring and the midterm and final are all questions you will be unable to answer, even if you do all the work and go to class. Papers she assigns are ridiculous and also very difficult to get a good grade on.
Such an amazing strong independent woman. Truly a great teacher. Fully explains everything and gives detailed examples/stories.

Possibly the worst teach I have ever had. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. She treats her class like we are going to grad school for religion. When she says "feel free to ask me questions" she doesn't actually mean it. I have asked her intelligent questions and she responds rudely with "why are you asking me that?" Very unapproachable and extremely hard grader.
Do not take !! None of the notes she makes you take are on the tests. Assigns 2 books to read and makes you write a 5 page paper. Midterm was impossible. Online quizzes every week. Lets you have 4 absences and doesn't excuse any even for medical reasons
I am seriously warning you when I say DO NOT take her as a professor. Midterm was impossible. Final was even more impossible (and cumulative). Probably the worst when she grades papers. Worst professor/teacher I have ever had for the 18 years I have lived. Save your GPA, save your soul, save your dignity. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would not take this professor again. Only 2 long papers and a midterm and final. Very tough grader. Does not round up. I would not say she is very helpful either. Lectures go until the last second of class. Boring lectures. Tests were long and difficult. Must go to class and must read every week.

I have attended catholic school my entire life and this is the first religion class that received a B- in. She makes you read 3 books and take quizzes on them that make 0 sense. She then gives you a midterm,2 papers, and final THATS IT. FAIL ONE YOURE SCREWED!! Would absolutely never take her again. AVIOD IF POSSIBLE.

The absolute worst professor ever. Very rude and lectures go to the very last second if not after. Even if you have a logical reasonable question and she says if you have any questions, ask, theres no point in asking shell just respond very inappropriately. Online tests every single week, 2 papers, a midterm and a final and its all true false.

so much homework every week and lots of reading to go along with it. I had her for a block she drags the class on so long it could be so much shorter. Overall a nice person but don't take this class so much busy work for no reason
in my four years this is the longest block class I have ever taken. She goes the whole time plus a couple of extra minutes. Shes extremely repetitive and gives ridiculous assignments. She gives two tests that are 100 t/f questions with no reference to review before. 5-10 page papers like what bruhh sex Ed doesnt need to be taken this far
Everyone always rates Professor Manning so poorly, but I have really enjoyed her class so far. I take Women in World Religions with her and she has been so understanding and amazing. Her lectures are pretty interesting and the readings are really not that bad. Just make sure to always have your textbooks on you! Would 100% recommend to others.
I had her for a block class last semester, she started at 8:00 am on the dot and used all 2 hours and 45 minutes. home work quizzes every week, essays were tough topics and she SUPER lecture heavy. If you have the opportunity to take another class or professor, do it.
Worst class ever. I took this course in a block at 8 am to fill my religion credit. Never again. 3 papers (5-10 pages) 1 midterm, 1 final. Gave the midterm class after spring break with no review class. The class drags on and you need to buy 4 textbooks (ridiculous)! She is just rude, and just randomly calls on students and wants them to know a lot
She's really nice when you talk to her in and outside of class and very understanding. I was having some trouble and she was more than willing to help and was super nice about it. Easily one of my favorite professors. You had to get a few textbooks, but they were super cheap. Her midterm was straightforward, cause she really wants you to do well.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST. She is a super hard grader and doesn't explain any of the assignments. There are weekly quizzes on the textbooks that you read along with news journals that you need to do. don't get me wrong she is a nice person, but a super hard professor.
Every week you have to write a ridiculous news journal, take a 10 question true or false quiz on nonsense. The questions are terribly written and flat out DONT MAKE SENSE. It's a lecture but be prepared to be graded on participation. Do not take, worst professor I've had yet!
Every week there are lectures, textbook readings, a ten question quiz, a news journal, and sometimes a movie. She is very nice but this class can be overwhelming and definitely boring at times. You must come to class prepared and ready to participate. Also, a lot of group work and discussions.
Weekly class, but lots of homework considering it was a required class. Every week there were 2 video lectures around 30 mins each, with a textbook chapter reading/reading quiz. News journals every week as well. 2 presentations about the weekly topic and a final research paper. Knowledgable prof but its a tough 8am and more work than I expected

She literally does not care if you pass or fail. She will give you bad grades if she does not like you. When you ask for help she will meet but does absolutely nothing. She is not understanding at all. If your on your phone during class she will tell you to put it away. And overall just makes you feel so uncomfortable.

The topic is super uninteresting for most people as it is just a required class so it is very easy to get bored especially with Manning. she doesn't assign much work but you should definitely keep up with notes for the 2 exams and 2 papers as they are basically your whole grade. She utilizes all class time so be ready,gives you 3 skips for semester
Manning was a nice person and TRS 160 is one of her easier classes, but thanks to her, I am not on the deans list! She did not grade my work too harshly, but she was still a somewhat tough grader. All she did was talk and keep us for a whole 2 hours and 45 minutes. Wanna be on the deans list? DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
I am currently taking TRS175 with professor Manning and I find it to be fairly easy and very interesting. She is passionate about the material she teaches and has done extensive research into these topics, which makes it interesting. Weekly quizzes based on textbook readings,10q and open book. 2 papers but both clearly outlined with templates.
Professor Manning is not a bad teacher, but the material often gets extremely dull. You can tell she's really passionate and knows a lot about what she's teaching, but she doesn't really make things interesting for us. Lots of boring documentaries and slides. Again, not the worst teacher; available for help and wasn't strict with my grades
Ok professor, I just did not really like her style of teaching. There are weekly reading quizzes which was one of the things I did not like. The midterm was quite difficult and you can't use any technology in her class.
Awful professor, DO NOT TAKE. I took understanding religion to fulfill a required credit. She does not care how hard you try. She is a very tough grader. I was in her block class and she takes up absolutely every second of her time. Her exams are absurd, up to 50-120 questions. Homework is a quiz and a journal entry.
You receive reading quizzes that are online every week but are very hard and will need 4 books. Her style of teaching made it hard to understand the material that is going on in this class. She is also very strict on deadlines and if you like using technology in a class to take notes you won't be allowed to.
Stay away, my only bad grade of my semester and I went to a catholic high school... hardest class Ive taken by far. Homework takes about 6 hours a week and if you mess one thing up shell give you a 70.
This professor is terrible. Don't get it twisted. I don't understand how somebody can make such an unimportant/cared about topic so unecessarily informative. Yes she takes up the whole time, yes a tough grader, and yes you will get a bunch of bullshit assignments. Do yourself a favor, DONT TAKE HER. PS, she makes you buy HER textbook SHE wrote.
I mean she was ok I guess. Couldn't really talk to her one on one. It is so easy to tank your grade. I had C's or above on everything but like 2 things and somehow I still had a D for most of the semester. I had a block class and she somehow talked for 2 hours straight. Everything was clear and midterm and final were open book which was great.
I took this course over this summer. I sent multiple emails because i was really struggling, and i seemed to always get bad grades and i was putting in about 10+ hours a week on her homework. Extremely tough grader. Was given lectures every week and i used that and the text for quizzes and i think my highest grade was a 89

This professor was horrendous, she picked on me throughout the semester, even though I never did anything but participate. This wasn't only seen by me but by other students as well. She was extremely lecture-heavy and didn't want to let the almost three hour class out till the very last minute despite her being done with the material for the day.
Great teacher but classes get very dull. Two and a half hours of just sitting there listening to her talk; found it very easy to space out. She has you bring your phone up to the front of the classroom during the lecture for participation credit, but since she doesn't want people on their phones anyway it's sort of just free credit. No computers :(
THIS CLASS WAS YUCK AND STAY AWAY FROM MANNING!! Almost 3 hour long and at 8am and would keep the class to the last minute. SUPER HARD grader and picks favorites in the class. If she doesn't like you she will make it known to you & everyone else. No phones or computers allowed for the whole 3 hours. Just drop the class if scheduled with her. PLZ
I took this online over summer and was so surprised at how challenging it was. Lots of readings and they are all on super niche topics. Everything was okay until the final was proctored without warning. It was interesting and overall not terrible but bc it was online I didn't get a great feel for her as a professor, just the content
I had a blocked class and she kept us until the very end every time. There's hw quiz based on textbook every week; super easy. Also a news journal every other week based on religious news stories she provides. Not too bad as long as you follow directions. 2 exams that you get one sheet of notes for. Her class was overall pretty boring but not awful
Long classes, long readings, zoom on snow days, playing long boring videos about cults. Good honors credit though for religion. Hw questions are the questions for the midterm and the final.
Professor Manning is a very difficult professor, her quizzes are on lockdown browser and your grades on them matter. No phones or laptops allowed, I wouldn't recommend taking a 2 45 min class because it is the longest and most painful class of my life. YOU READ SO MUCH. The midterm is 120 multi questions and 2 essays under 2 hours. DONT DO IT.
Professor Manning is not mean or a tough grader. You have to do what she actually asks of you or you're not gonna get a good grade. She is very understanding but asks that you put forth your best effort. I took her Eastern religion class and it was very interesting—lots of information but not a hard class.
DO NOT TAKE!! Classes are 3 hour blocks at 8 am and she will always keep you to the very end. No phones and laptops are allowed, participation matters and at the end of every class she makes you take a quiz on a lockdown browser. Midterm and final are worth 2,000 points and consists of 100 multiple choice with 2 essay questions.
Prof. Manning has the most boring lectures I had ever listened to. Her handwriting is pretty awful, she repeats the same points and literally puts me to sleep. Definitely take a different professor.
STAY AWAY. I only took this class because of credit. Take an easier religion class than this. it's not worth it and take my word for it, she is horrendous. She will pick on you every class; her midterms/finals are the hardest tests I have ever taken. I got a 4 on the AP STATS test for credit, and I am hardly passing this class. do. not. take.
Professor Manning made everything so difficult. The final was supposed to be done in 2 hours, but she assigned 130 multiple choice questions and two essays. Majority of people went over time. No phones or laptops, and she lectures for 2 hours and 45 minutes fully. Never a class being let out early.
DO NOT TAKE HER! You need to go to this class as it is a block class! She lectures for so long and you have a quiz after every class. A LOT OF READING! The quizzes weren't the easiest and you have to get 4 textbooks, one being her own. She is horrible and doesn't care about students academic success!

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! The worst class I have ever taken! The midterm and final are way too difficult. The final is 120 multiple choice questions and multiple short answer questions. She makes you put your phone in the front of the room and you can only use pen and paper. It is a 2 hour and 45 minute class and you will NEVER get out early.
I pray that you see this and don't take this class. I have it at 8am, it's a block that doesn't let you out early, you will NEVER find something interesting and if you do professor manning sucks all the fun out of it. Do not take this class.
I was hesitant to take this class based on reviews, but it turned to be a good class. Weekly open-note quizzes were done at home. No laptops allowed—only handwritten notes. The final was 80 multiple choice (a majority repeated from the midterm) and 3 short answers questions. Allowed front and back piece of paper for notes on the exam.
Although I happened to find the topic of this class interesting, this class was anything but that. The majority of your grade comes from the midterm and final, which are an insane number of questions in such a short time. On the plus side, if you do at least 5 points better on the final than the midterm, she only counts the final.
She was very particular about putting your phone away for an attendance grade and your grade is mainly from two exams (midterm and final). However, the final you can have a sheet of paper from and back of notes and your textbooks. Extremely easy final. Midterm was a bit more challenging but it was online. time consuming class but easy A
