Very confusing instruction.
This teacher is confusing. I had to switch to another teacher after the first day. Thank goodness I found another open class.
This teacher is confusing as heck. Most of the time he is unorganized and if you want to take notes in his class, good luck. He writes all over the board and draws lines connecting different notes. He confuses himself sometimes. His class is boring too, he is either giving an opinion on a book or giving a confusing assignment...
i hated this class it was so boring i wanted to kill myself. its pretty easy if you can already write because he does not teach a gosh dran thing. all you do is read examples out of the book and then your supposed to know what to do. dont try to take notes his handwriting is all over the place.
This professor may be confusing to you, but if you are interested in writing you will never meet a better "character". The communication in class was very open and the professor was very accessable and honest with the students.
I liked the class, the work wasn't really very difficult, and although the prof. is sometimes disorganized, I didn't think he did too badly. I enjoyed the class discussions although I wouldn't have minded a few more actual writing assignments.
Instructor is a mess!!! His course syllabus was 7 pages long and makes no sense. I am taking this course on-line which has been such a challenge. His assignments are very difficult to understand and follow. The instructor takes attendance for an ON-LINE CLASS!!! Do not take this instructor save yourself the pain:)

you can't be lazy and unimaginative in this class -- the critical and creative are rewarded for their efforts. all this talk about him being disorganized and confusing is most likely the fault of the student -- if the student is unsure, then the student should ask questions. in a school where A's are given away, A's with him are EARNED.
I took this professor twice. First time I had him he was cool, he was somewhat helpful and I found it hard to take him seriously b/c of his organizational skills and he would get too comfortable in class by taking off his shoes and showing his crusty pale feet which distracted us. Overall, he became difficult to when it came down the literature.
This teacher stinks do not take this class
He gives you the Boot-Camp; this means follow the yellow-brick road. Then, your read a lot, & the Further Reading List. Step-in to the time-lines. Then, you'll get to see the Wizard and get an "A". what you sow, you will reap. It's your work, not the Professor's.
Creative writing is an enjoyable class to take. Prof Clark is well-versed in literature and composition and he brings this asset to the classroom. Supportive of each student's efforts, and emphasizes attendence, coming prepared, and compliance with directions on assignments. Sometimes vague, but will clarify when asked. Fun class, fun teacher.
I would highly reccomend that no one take a class with this professor! I am currently taking this class online and we started with over 60 students and have less than 20 now and we are barely half way through. His syllabus is totally confusing, he takes forever to respond to e-mails and he is rude on top of that. Please consider this message first!
DO NOT TAKE online eng 101! He takes FOREVER to respond to emails, doesn't help AT ALL, and confuses the students with his directions. I learned absolutely nothing. I took this class with only two other classes, yet I found myself very stressed and frustrated all semester long. DO NOT TAKE!
Clark's in person class is great. He expects a weekly response which is full of constructive crticism pertaining to grammar and analysis content. He expects a certain degree of thinking so be prepared to show critical thinking. He has two projects, they are fun and creative. Overall Clark is a man who knows his literature and likes to teach.
Read two stories then post ONE 250-500 word post per week. One midterm (contextualized) and 1 final(same)Two total other (250-500)posts of same content that you get to pick/get to skip two of his for this.Really learned a lot about analysis here. Lets you figure it out, but, he points direction. Need to apply what he shows.
take him
His syllabus is a joke. It makes no sense. How can someone who majors in an English Dept. not be able to write a legible syllabus? He says he gets back to all emails within 48 hours. That is a lie. IF he does back with you it is about 1 week later. There are no tests or quizzes, just weekly discussions on the literature just read.
contradictory grading style, non communicative, refuses to answer student emails, phone calls, ect., syllabus states to use MLA but he grades against such use, inconsistent with formatting (and dings you for it), the few post from this instructor are ambiguous and are not addressed to anyone in particular
This guy drove me insane. He is incredibly inpersonable, he will not communicate you when you need help or at all, and if you make the effort to ask him for help he will do his best to avoid you. only take this class if you are a perfect robot. He's ridiculous.
Do NOT take this class. Teacher takes forever to grade responses and answer emails. Offers no help whatsoever. Worst online class I have taken thus far.
He is a great professor. Apparently he's not so good online, but I found his class very enjoyable. He spends a lot of time to help his students out. Also he writes a lot of comments on papers, so it's helpful. I became a much better writer because of him, so I highly recommend him. He's really cool also and easy to talk to, and very respectful.
i took the 8 week hybrid class. wasnt hard but definately not easy. there was an essay everyweek and a research paper at the end instead of a final. other assignments consisted of posts on essays. overall not a bad class
This professor takes forever and a day to grade things. As for responding to e-mails he does respond but he will always dance around your questions and never actually answer your question regardless of the importance of it. I took this class online. I recommend avoiding him.
This professor is kinda hard to read. He isnt really clear on what he wants but once you figure out his "style" of writing essays he is easy. He made my writing and critical thinking skills improve a lot!
Took his online class & thought it was good. Reading assign. & short essay each week. Felt for the students for whom English was not their 1st language; they had a tough time. Also couldn't believe how poor most of the papers were. Class avg was C but I managed an A. Read the instructions in the syllabus & write thoughtful papers & you'll be fine.
Tough but fair. Reading assignment & essay each week. Responds to questions quickly but takes some time to grade papers. Felt a bit sorry for foreign students who had trouble with grammar etc. in their papers. Class average was C but I managed an A. Read the syllabus carefully & write thoughtful critical analyses and you'll do fine.
He will knock you on EVERYTHING? even the font. He was knowledgeable, but I will never take him again.
great teacher...loves English nice guy, likes to learn more and hear opinions. one essay due every other week and have to post answers for reading a essay online once a week. not hard took him in lecture. but am going to take him again for an online course. not too tough of a grader either. fair guy
Took him for ENG 205 online. It was alright. Could of been better.
I took his English 102 class this semester and he is an awesome teacher. I would take him again if I had another English class to take. He is so understanding, if you have a problem just talk to him, he will do the best to help you. Work is not hard and you only have 2 assignments a week. Love him!
Excellent, well educated teacher. Enjoyed the relaxed state of class, but be prepared with assignments. He enjoys discussing everything. Would take him for any class I would need. Very helpful.
Maybe it is just because I took this class online, but I found the professor not helpful. He was slow to respond and his grading scale just seemed off. Other than that, it is a lot of reading and a discussion post each week, plus a midterm and a final. If you aren't into literature or writing, consider another professor or in a classroom setting.
He is not helpful at all it would take several days to respond to emails and gradng is off he would respond and post every late. This was an online class I personally did not like how it was handled yes its alot of reading so you have to be on top of it. Not helpful maybe classroom would be different.
(Online Class)This class is a 3credit class but the amout of work is for a 5credit class. The syllabus reads like a tax form: Assinment 2b post comments on assignment 3c or 4a. You can figure it out but it is much harder than it needs to be. He gives out a grading rubric but does not seem to follow it. He never addressed the class. NotReccommended
Please avoid this professor. He is no help at all. Lacks communication, and dances around questions when asked.
Really cool guy, and funny too. Down to earth but serious about his profession. Also very good at reading between the lines, and analyzing readings. He is a tough grader, but I got an A. I think he just wants students to do well and pay attention to their writing. Deserves more credit.
Okay here's the deal: This class isn't easy. I took the online class. If you expect to summarize every discussion you will receive a 3 out of 10 if that much. He wants you to have an analytical type of thinking. You are required to think about the works before you write on them. He is not bad but very strict.
Class was straight to the point. Read english stories, discuss them in class. Paper due every other week. Professor is definitely passionate about what he does. If you show interest, he will help you. Definitely got better in writing by taking this class.
He is not a good professor. Will not work with you at all, so do not hand in any late work! His syllabus is confusing, but he does not require much from you. Not my favorite teacher though. Not reccommended online
Do yourself a favor and just don't take this guy. Unhelpful, slow grader, and super confusing. His syllabus is more confusing than the world lit stories we have to read.
Ok, if you really would like the headache and stress from taking a relatively fun class, DON'T ever take this professor, esp online! I took him during the summer and he was so slow at responding to your questions and with posting grades. Also, he is a really harsh grader, you read about 300 pages a week and he still is picky. NEVER take his class.
Took a hybrid class, it was okay. The format of the due dates is amazing but everything else is annoying. Late to grade, picky about discussion posts online. Cares A LOT about MLA. Pretty nice, class just seemed like a book club.
Taken fall of 2013.I did not receive my first grade on an assignments until week 4 assignment, almost always 3 weeks behind on grades.had an honors English teacher proof read my work before turn in,he would mark things wrong that were not.Did not follow his own grading rubric, and on my final received no feedback.DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM!!!

Took a hybrid english course. I feel that the reviews on him are not the most fair. He is a good instructor, and his class is cake. If you don't know MLA then do research. Otherwise expect the drop in grade. Other than that fun class and simple
please don't take his class especially eng 231. he is the worst instructor i have ever seen. he does not help you at all, all what he does is give you reading about 70 to 80 pages and write an essay about what you read. he is very harsh on grades. if y ask him for something, i don't think he 'll answer you.
Horrible communications skills, rude, wildly inconsistent grades. Provides little feedback on how to improve grades. Not one single person got full credit on ANY assignment throughout the whole class. I am an A student normally and I would recommend taking the class with ANYONE OTHER than him.
This professor literally looks like Tim Burton and Johnny Deep combined with a personality to match! He's hilarious at times and is very blunt as well. Very easy class, lots of writing, but it's a great class. Would recommend it to the moon and back.
I have to be fair. I think that Prof. Clark would be fine in real class, but online was tough. He offered little in feedback until after the paper was turned in. My previous Professor (Eng 101) worked with you along the way with drafts and revisions. P. Clark would not grade papers until after the next was turned in. I say choose another.
I took Clark for ENG 102 over the summer. At my university I get straight A's and write pretty good essays. He is an extremely tough grader and provided absolutely no feedback and just repeatedly gave me C's, especially if my paper had a religious/spiritual topic, which was allowed because they were from the textbook. NO FEEDBACK & TOUGH TO PLEASE
I will never take a class from him again. Slow responses to students if he bothers to respond at all. He grades hard on grammar but when he writes you can barely understand what he puts. He posts all assignments together where everyone can read his critiques on your work. The class was online and you got the impression he would forget about us.
I like that Professor Clark gives his students freedom within limits when it comes to essay topics. As long as you meet his requirements, he will let you write about any of the many topics in the required textbook. If you write good essays and post in the discussion board once a week, you will pass this class.
Throughout this course you have to do a total of 5 essays. 4 of them are any prompt you wish to use from the textbook (they're actually pretty interesting) and your last one is a research paper. Honestly the length for these essays were a piece of cake. Do discussions on time and every week to get participation points. This class is doable trust me
Grade based on grammar and spelling, not on learning or comprehension. I wrote, 'Excellent and impressive', papers and discussion posts, but still got low B's and a C. His feedback is cryptic and difficult to understand, making it hard to improve. Very slow in responding to emails and gradings, not very accessible as an online teacher.
Isn't very clear at all when it comes to formatting or what we should be writing about. If you ask him questions, he doesn't answer them clearly.
This is honestly the worst class I have taken. He is not specific and doesn't teach well. He is rude and uncaring of the things going on in students' lives that could impact their assignments. Very sloppy and puts meaningless things online and important stuff needs to be printed. Too many things to do for one class. If I had to grade him... 0%
He is slow to response. Vague in description and feedback. Find someone better.
He's a tough grader. He's one of those teachers who just post a syllabus and expect you to follow it. Not interactive at all, nor is he accommodating when it comes to things going on in a students life that could impact their schoolwork. I would say find a different teacher.
mediocre at best. doesnt really teach, just kinda reads through everything. cant really contact him enough he does teach online and hybrid classes. need to keep a calendar for this class. seriously. everything is based on the 5 papers and you can. not. be. late.
Professor Clark unfortunately ruined my streak of great professors at College of Southern Nevada. I would suggest finding a different instructor. I was not treated with any type of courtesy or respect while taking his class, and strongly wish I would have read his reviews prior to signing up.
Good teacher. There wasn't much structure but the work wasn't hard. Weekly discussion posts.
Absolutely worst Canvas set up I have ever seen while in college, I did not realize it was difficult to make canvas readable Does not/has not put due dates in for assignments, while these (kind of) are in the syllabus it is still very confusing Not much for directions, I am still kind of lost on what I am supposed to write about
Do yourself a favor and find a different English teacher.
Spring 2020: Not necessarily a tough class just a lot of reading. Although when I did the weekly Discussion boards, he just gave me a grade and absolutely no feedback. Weekly quizzes are easy if you read the material from which the quizzes are based on, for the writing portion of midterm and final, I suggest writing it beforehand and editing it
The online class lacked direction. He seemingly only checks his email once a day if that. A response with 24h is not guaranteed. Tough grader on papers. His grading style is lazy with abbreviations which he put on the rubric but some of his "corrections" were not even listed in the rubric. He gives almost no feedback, in papers or discussions.
Do not take Professor Clarks classes. He is the most inconsiderate professor I have ever had in my college experience. Here is way: -Never interacted with the class -Syllabus was more confusing than launching a rocket from an calculator... -Never gave feed back (Rude and late) -Lack of consistency -Responds to questions condescending
Was fine with the class overall, had no problem with the reading assignments however was not impressed or happy that a grade came back (about what I was expecting which was fine by itself) but no feedback was provided other than the overall grade. Please, provide feedback as well as a grade so progress can be made on the next paper.
I tried to finish my essay for all my assignment and answering the question and he doesnt put a grade.
I think that this professor is not the best at grading essays. I found that the marks he uses for grading papers are vague at best. You must go on a separate paper, which he gives via a module, and it has all the abbreviated marks there. However, he doesn't even have them all there! He makes you read and answer questions when it's not even graded.
Not very kind and doesn't actively participate like other professors do through informative announcements, etc. There's only one assignment due per week, but there's a lot of reading and writing involved. The syllabus is very difficult to fully understand. Very tough grader, no student got a 100% on any of the written assignments!
I loved english until I took this class with this professor. I hated his work and he responded to simple emails/questions in a way that made me feel dumb. I recommend taking someone else.
Teacher clearly doesn't have quite a grasp on how to fully use Canvas and has proceeded to setup all the discussions, modules, and even syllabus in the most confusing manners. As someone who has shown the way he explains things to others I can attest that this teacher just likes to be confusing and extra for no reason.
As an online student, it is the easiest class I have ever taken. I only participated in class discussions (via chat) like 5 times out of the 80000 discussions, and I was only graded for the papers I submitted (4 papers + 1 research paper). Just pretend to know what you're talking about and you'll pass (which is rather bittersweet, I'm aware)
The way he sets up the online class is extremely confusing because he uses the discussion board for everything. Weekly assignments are for attendance but the readings are short and easy. He gives feedback every week. 4 papers+ a research paper. Grades papers fairly, in my opinion. Grades faster compared to other teachers I've had.
He does not respond to emails, and uses the discussion board for everything, which is incredibly confusing, as I was failed for not participating on all the 279 discussions he had posted. And even as I demonstrated my confusion via email, I was not responded to. Awful.
I did wrote the essay and answer the question that I did read the book. Before go to tutoring in person, I need to correct the paragraph and make and grammar corrections. Even I ask him what happened to the Grades in ENG 102 and he said don't worry about that.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! HES AN AWFUL PROFESSOR!!! He only cares about the check and thats all. He takes forever to answer emails and most of the time its not informative. His feedback also makes no sense and just as the others posted its 2+ discussions weekly and if its late it will not be taken as a grade.
He does not care what his students ask or how they are doing on the paper. He gives out a grading rubric that he doesn't follow, and you ask him to go over your essay again, and he gets very defensive. I had five minor baby errors that any student might have, and he decided to give me an 85. In any other class, I would get a 95%.
Disorganized! He posts everything in discussions and it is confusing. The syllabus is of no help. There's 3 different callendars or sylbusses with different deadlines. I explained my confusion in an email at the beginning of the semester he was of no help. Got C's all semester long on every grade he put in canvas then i got an F on my transcript.
Very disorganized. Everything is in discussions and between 3 different syllabus and calendars. I couldn't figure out the deadlines and asking him was no help. I got C's in canvas all semester long, turned everything in, then he gives me an F on my transcript and I have no clue why. Do NOT take this class!!!
When you first load into his class, yes, everything is SO confusing & you're like, "I have made a grave mistake". But it's actually super simple: Weekly textbook questions & answers you post in Discussions that is graded as attendance, papers are also posted in Discussions (admittedly this was so weird) but an easy A for me nonetheless. Not hard.
The workload is simple: Weekly textbook questions & answers you post in Discussions that are graded as attendance, papers are also posted in Discussions, grades papers as assignments but not hard and everything is due on your own time before the due date of course.
There was four normal essays that are based on questions in the book and one research essay at the end of the semester on whatever you want. There are weekly assignments based on essays in the textbook. He grades the weekly assignments based on completion. His feedback is okay and he takes forever to respond to emails. You post to discussions.
would never take again. I took English 102 and received a B- I should not be getting a B- in a low level English class. He has five papers over the semester and graded me so hard. I got C's on all of them except for one where I begged him to proof read for me, and he did not give me any feedback. He is super confusing through email too. Do not take
Did not receive constructive feedback from professor. No clear grading rubric fro papers.
This teacher was honestly better than my last professor for Eng101. He does not give loads of work. He gives weekly assignments and grades based on completion. You will not have to stress taking him as your professor. He gives 4 papers and 1 research paper through this course which were easy and not hard. Overall, nice teacher and would take again.
The only thing I learned in this course was that not even college-level professors understand that the word "their" can be singular. Extremely inconsistent grading, disorganized canvas, feedback on papers is rushed and no help at all. The textbook was published a decade ago so copies are scarce and pricy. I would not recommend this professor at all
I should've looked online before taking this class. He is an English 223 professor and is strict on grading the papers and everything is posted in discussion posts for like .35 points. If you dont do well on the quizzes and on the midterm and finals - ur other assignments will be futile because you will not be able to bring your grade up by much
He's very nit-picky with essays. If you email regarding and assignment him he doesn't offer great advice or feedback. He tells you to look at the grading criteria that was posted on the previous weeks. He doesn't tell you what you could've done better. I emailed him asking for clarification and help and he was very vague and short.
the worst class ever taken; this professor is terrible at grading to future students do not choose this professor find someone better. Discussion post is worth .35 points does not contribute to your over-all grade. The test contributes most to your grade if you don't do well on those the discussion post will not help you bring your grade up at all.
Professor Clark is an exceptionally disorganized professor with poor communication skills. Everything was extremely difficult to understand from assignment layout, to disorganized notes on grading without explanation. He marked me off and used synonyms for words in my paper. Worst grade I ever received in an English class. Find a different teacher.
