Great guy! Funny and teaches you a lot. Ask him about Bologne! Do it! You'll love his class and he's not too tough. He's also from Germany, giving him a unique persepctive on current events. Is also the Model UN advisor. Loves students! GOOD GUY!

Goergen is definately deserving of the chili pepper due to repeated occurrances of sheer clothing. He is great at bringing up things that challenge the classes existing views, and never takes himself too seriously. Yay yay yay.
Likes to make fun of Republicans. Ahem. DUPAGE COUNTY TAXPAYERS ARE OVERWHELMINGLY REPUBLICAN. Lose the bias.
Great prof. He will challenge your beliefs and then disporve them. Challenging yet knowledgable. Very humorous also. Highly recommended because of his different perspective on the world.
Definitely interesting.. a German guy with a thick German accent teaching AMerican politics.. his sense of humor is great.. fair grader, very helpful..
As a person, he's nice. But as a teacher he sucks. His book and his exams are ridiculous. If you really want to learn something and want more than just an A, then he's not the right guy. Funny thing was, 3/4 of students were sleeping during the class.
i just didn't think he did a good job teaching the material he tested people on. he's main drawback is that he would talk far too long without getting to the point!

WORST teacher I have taken in 2 years at COD. Only had 3 grades: Midterm,final,report. The midterm was over the first half of the book and the final was the second half, but each was only 25 q's long and he didnt tell us what was on the exam- impossible to get an A. Mocks students with opposingviews
Going to class is pointless cause you learn nothing but the assignments are easy if you read the book he gives you a study guide with everything on the test. tests are easy. classes are boring and he never really seems to have a lesson planned he just rambles on and on
he's a nice guy to talk to but be prepared if you're conservative. You will fight tooth and nail for every issue that comes up. He teaches his political agenda.
He teaches an extreme liberal agenda. Write anything remotely pro-U.S. or pro Republican and he'll dock you to a C. Showed a MoveOn.org documentary (liberal Democratic PAC) on the Iraq War in class, claimed it was the whole truth. He's not fair, and not even a U.S. citizen. Find a better instructor.
A true teacher teaches both sides, and doesn't just teach one ideology and shuts out all opposing views. If you want to take a class of Liberal Ideology, this is the one. If you actually want to learn anything about Political Science in today's world, find another teacher who actually teaches...

i didn't learn anything in this class because all he did was talk on and on about common sense issues. i did learn how america is #1 at sucking, however. appreciate the reminder, go back to germany if you want to trash this country so much...
He’s not an easy teacher to follow, but if you are interested in politics,take his class.He can be upseting,but I’m also upset with Fox News bs.It’s healthy to hear a view different from what we’re used 2. Come prepared,have an informed opinion and you’ll have a blast in his class.Prof.-you rock!

Hrm... Difference from Fox News BS? Every other station, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, yadda yadda, you name it... is completely liberal biased. Completely one-sided, it's not that he wants to express his opinion, he shuts down any opposing point of views brought up IN his classes..................

He doesn't expect much of you, but the dumb assignments he gives he grades ridiculously hard. You only have 4 assignments a midterm, and a final. Goodluck!!
Not a completely easy class but so what? Make sure you study for the mid-term and final and put a bit of effort in and you'll do fine. He is biased but he's a Pol Sci teacher- you'd hope he'd have some interest in politics! Great sense of humor and some great fashion statements!
What others said is true<>, Just study the guides & hand in HMWrk on time & you will do fine. He just needs to update the Vids, they are too old! Oh & don't talk about GUN CONTROL, He wants to take my AK.
By far the worst teacher that I have ever had. Very anti-American, anti-Christian, not open-minded. Needs to go back to Germany and get his facts right.
Excellent teacher. has a pretty thick german accent, so a little hard to follow. however, cares deeply about what he teaches. he has opinions and isn't afraid to share them, but isn't against hearing out your's as well. very funny, know's what he's talking about. definately will take him again.
He is very biased but He's a smart and amiable guy. While I didn't agree with his politics I got along with him very well. If you take World Politics with him do Model UN and you get out of doing a project. I'd take another class with him.
He's an easy teacher, easy going, just not very interesting, quite boring actually.
nice teacher, had fun in his class. he kinda likes to say "not in my book" and "right". not so easy, just get your homeworks done and study the study guide very well cos that just what is on the test.
He's funny, but his teaching is extremely boring, take the 50 minute class if you can, then you will survive. Oh, and get ready to talk about nothing but poverty.
Not a bad teacher. Boring but what class at this school is not. If you can tell me one, just one let me know. His tests are difficult. He is a hard grader. Ended up with a sympathy B last year I think. The class was better than most.

This was a true brain ride. This professor is tough, but he is a true intellectual in the European sense of the word. Not easy for Americans to swallow, but I learned more with this professor than with any other. Be prepared for serious stuff but, he wears great ties and that's fun,it deserves a chpp. Heart in the right place, huge brain. A must!
This guy is amazing. I think I could listen to his lectures all day!! While he can stay on a topic for a while, his style will ensure that when you leave for the day, you know the material. His tests are all essay, but the study guides prepare you to do well.
dont need the book for world poli HON. easy teacher. just listen to his mostly boring lecture and contribute. there's one book report, one group project, mid term and final (both short answer). he's a really nice guy (cool accent!), i just wish there was more discussion in class.
Nice guy, funny sometimes, has a think German accent, but is VERY biased with his opinions, and is always ready to let you know what his opinions are. The class was really easy, though sometimes his directions were unclear. It's not a bad class, and not a lot of work at all, but just be wary if your political opinions don't agree with his.
Grading is compeltely unknown. He grades based on how much he likes you. Assignments, the simulations, have nothing to do with the class and are pointless. You will learn nothing from them and get graded poorly on them probably. I DONT RECOMEND HIM AT ALL
He is a very cool guy. He is freindly and he is helpful. He will always share his opinions on what he thinks about the government system. He makes you think about our government system and how it can be fixed. Simulations are easy. If you do them right than its an easy A.
Great guy, easy class! This was one of my favorite classes. Only 4 papers (simulations) and midterm and final that is it! Gives you all the questions that could be asked on the final and if you go to class you will already be set.
He is the most biased professor I've ever met. Not very understanding. I give him an F.
He does have a liberal bias which he may want to tone down but, really, his politics seem to be pro-humanity (which I suppose IS liberal... whatever). Liberal or not, he encourages students to view life through the eyes of other nations & no matter what your political veiws are, this can't be a bad thing. A good professor.
This class was really easy, but I underestimated this class too much and got a B. Goergen looks strict but surprisingly has a good sense of humor n dresses wel. He is kind of a tough grader though, and even grades you for participation. You might disagree with come of his viewpoints which he openly expresses, but dont let that bother you too much.
I took this class independantly and it was extremely difficult! I work really hard to get an A and it was impossible to even get a C in this class! he is a REALLY tough grader when writing papers! he criticizes like no other!! I withdrew from the class at the last day to withdraw! I couldn' take his rudeness no more.
He's pretty into what he teaches, and if you're not as informed as he is, you're pretty useless to him. His accent isn't to hard to understand, and he did write the textbook he uses so he's not too hard with it. Hardly any homework, but the midterm and final are a killer.
Midterm, Final, and final project explaining a piece of legislation and if/why it has passed. Barley used the book. I think he assigned a reading twice. We had 5 pop quizzes which weren?t too bad if you were in class the day before. Liberal bias for sure. Gives study guides but just write down his opinion and you should get an A. Pathetic but true.
He was a good teacher. He liked to teach things that many of us are not aware of. While he teaches he liked to make jokes to get students involved, he was funny and he has a good sense of humor. He was very biased, he always taught from a liberal perspective.
Typical liberal teacher who thinks he knows everything and tries to make the students feel stupid. The book for the class is a book HE wrote, BUT DO NOT BUY THE BOOK BECAUSE YOU DONT USE IT AT ALL. Bad teacher
Where to start...One of the most biased teachers I have ever encountered, believes that his beliefs & thoughts are always correct. Gives us useless info to memorize, has no structure to his class at all. AVOID!!
It's not a hard class. Most of the stuff on the mid term and final is either common sense or the same stuff we learned in 8th grade and high school. He only takes attendance the first week and then once every 3 or 4 weeks after. He also has a pretty sweet German accent.
He is very scattered, and his opinion is always right. I don't feel as if i learned anything from this class. What I deem important is never on the test. Midterm, Final, Project and 5 pop quizzes. Don't buy the book... you'll never use it... I would recommend signing up with a different teacher.

Wow I can't believe so many people don't like him, I have him for world politics and he is such a cool dude. I think people need to be less rigid on their beliefs, sure he might have some opinions but just because he uses ration doesn't mean he is a "die-hard liberal" it means that he makes his decisions based on reason.
he wrote the book we use in class. $90 book u can only get online. NOT EVEN A BOOK. basically he just wrote 8 'chapters' on a website! how does that count as an Ebook?? And this man has a PHD....talk about just wanting money!! Not even that useful as a teacher..Basically he just gave a lot of links and quotes in his 'book'. not worth it AT ALL!!!!!
Dr. Goergen is the premier Poli sci professor at COD. He tried to get the class into the subject and engage. his specialty is Political Psychology and peace and conflict. Hes A liberal but he DOESNT push it as much as people claim here. A pleasure to learn from and he gave me lots of books to read on my own.Hes a class act and influenced me greatly
My mistake taking with this instructor. I worked hard to bring up my grade and still received low grade. DO NOT take this teacher. He is Simply HORRIBLE AND RUDE! AVOID HIM!!! If possible do take with another professor.!
I agree with all the negative comments about him! I have had very bad experience with this professor, I wish I took this course with another teacher! He is a very tough grader! And his tests are tricky and somewhat don't make sense! Avoid at any cost!
Goergen is a very liberal man who is open about his views. Bear in mind that they affect his grading policy! The book for this class is an eBook, written by him, which is required. His tests are very difficult, I used the eBook during them, took answers right out of it, & they were still wrong. Nice enough man, confusing teacher.

Took the online section. Tests were difficult but assignments were great and even fun. If you do all assignments and read the book you are fine.
Was very helpful in online class. Let me join late and retake test because my computer froze. Many short assignment mostly easy. Test are difficult but if you read the book you do ok.

He is tough!!! Real tough grader! No tests which is good but there are 5 unannounced quizzes. Which means you need to show up to class because you can not make up the quizzes. Presentation is worth a lot but he is a tough grader!! I thought we did a good presentation and he gave our group a C! I barely made it with a 80%.
May grade on questions NOT asked in assignment, exams contain questions without the figures that go along with them. He absolutely grades on how much a student aligns with his personal beliefs. Do not recommend.
Terrible class. Very opinionated. Offers extra credit, but very long to complete. Assigns big projects, and is a VERY tough grader. Also, is very stubborn. Left the class not learning about anything new. I hated this class. Whatever you do, do not take him.

Not a good instructor. Quiz and test questions aren't relative to the online study guides or quizzes. Take as many online quizzes as you'd like in order to check how much you know about what you've been studying - good luck with that - because none of the material shows up in the real quizzes or tests.
Online class was pretty standard but you need to read your book to do well on tests. Assignments were interesting. You can hand in stuff late and he will accept it.
Took this class online and was highly disappointed that I wasted my time and money at COD - solely because of this professor. Your opinion will NOT matter in this class, as he holds a "his way or nothing else" and "all-knowing" type of attitude. I've never walked away from a class feeling so uneducated and disrespected for the effort I put forth
He's the best professor I had thus far. He is no- nonsense but extremely fair. If you have the right attitude, meet your deadlines and show a commitment to your work, you will be successful in his class. He cares about the students and that's all you can ask for. I recommend this teacher to everyone!

Don't take this class unless you like writing 2-3 page papers every other week. His grading is bullcrap and very tough. He pushes very liberal views onto his students and is very politically biased. If you want an unbiased view of world politics and a good grade do not take this professor.
Took intro to peace and conflict because I was interested in the topic. The biggest regret of my life. Worked so hard for 4 things he grades and he failed me for every single one. Never missed a deadline criteria was never clear. Wrote on one of my essays saying that I was a poor excuse of a student and I really need to put more effort in.
I was very excited for this class, and unfortunately I do not feel as if I learned anything new. Goergen teaches out of his own textbook, which is the key to all quizzes and assignments. His extra credit policy almost guarantees an A, but we spent a good 4-5 weeks of the semester on individual presentations on a topic of our choice.
He's nice but he doesn't listen. For example, you present to him factual evidence and he argues back with you telling you it's wrong. He cuts you off-interrupting your presentation to put in his own opinions while you're presenting evidence you found. It's rude and disrespectful. He is also a tough grader and it's stressful.
Polsci is one of my best subjects&I easily would have gotten an A with any other professor. Do NOT take him if you can avoid it. He is very biased! There are "What do you think?"assignments & he always basically told me my opinion was wrong so I could never get 100%. He also makes you buy a book he wrote and you need it to pass tests& complete hw
You actually have to try in his class. He gives 9 papers over the semester, no final exam. You HAVE to read the book to pass. Great teacher, just not an easy one.
He's very opinionated and it very set in his own ways so when you're doing discussion boards and doing assignments that are based off of your own opinion they're often criticized and wrong in his eyes. The tests are written in his own words and asks about the most random things and the study guides provided online don't help at all.
Professor Goergon is a very opinionated, one sided, and bias professor. A regular social justice warrior. His class is not for discussion, just for him to preach. He needs to remember college is for discussion and points of view, not agendas.
Makes you buy "textbook" that he wrote-- basically 8 one-page chapters on completely unrelated topics such as enviro sci, poverty, etc. Not at all an introduction to the field of political science. Very disappointed. I feel like he needed to become a prof just to sell his book. Btw--book is largely unedited and full of careless mistakes...
Took last semester and I made the mistake of not listening to the people on here. Fails you on assignments bc youre not liberal enough for his opinions, makes you read a textbook HE wrote that is 100% liberal opinions and doesn't give any real facts
I took this class over the summer through COD. Granted I have a full time job, but I thought that 2 online Gen Eds would be okay to do, which it was, but not with this professor. He assigns lots of homework, makes you buy an expensive textbook with a course code, grades really hard, and doesn't make exceptions. I do not recommend taking this course
This is an amazing teacher of the faculty of College of Dupage you wont be dissapointed. Clear grading criteria and actually you will learn about political science.
