aka "mr turtle." he grades his essay tests fairly easy (ALOT easier than wrightson's). not too boring. gives u several possible test essay topics in advance.several discussion groups over course of semester are easy points (total 1/5 of grade) if u read the book. provides helpful outline of notes.
I thought the class was rather boring. I thought he refered to the Holocaust too much for a class that taught Western Civ. (up to the Renaissance). Discussion groups are ok if you read. he did give the possible test questions out, but he graded difficult. and his lectures werent always clear.
He was very interested in his subject. Good class.
Whatever to all the neutral comments!Chris is totally cool and has a great sense of humor;a rather welcomed attribute that other professors lack. You don't like him? It's because you didn't get off your ass and study.Read the material, study, and take notes and *what a surprise* you'll get a good grade. That's why you're in school...duh!Awesome guy.
Wastes A LOT of class time by going off on tangents. He really has a knack for using the class to express his own opinions. He's insecure and can lash out at you if he feels threatened by you.Didn't seem like a history class but a philosophy/religions course.Suggested reading for class had NO relevancy to actual material of class. Overall: nice guy
he's into History but goes off the main subject too much during the semester;way too judgemental against students;exerts his own views and won't accept anybody else's which can make him come across as a jerk. Take another professor--you'll get more for your money.
Jardine grades too difficult on essays and goes off subject too much. I thought I paid for a History class but I got ripped off and he was teaching Philosophy instead. Don't take him.

Great instructor, intelligent and funny. Easily sidetracked, but enjoyable with participation.
Great teacher, great guy. His class is enjoyable and informative. Do the work, get the grade.
Don't really like him personally, he is opinionated and can be rude to students. But in opposition to some of the comments I have read about him, he's a good teacher. He knows his stuff, and I have to admit I'm learning a lot
Guys if you want to learn and earn YOU NEED TO STUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think Chris is a very knowledgeable and interesting teacher. I really like his class. If you want to learn about history... take his class.. but if you just want grade then don't take him. I think Chris has a good sense of humor and good personality. He make the subject fun..Maria
Very knowledgable and easy to listen to; he even gets excited at the good parts.
Mr. Jardine is a very good teacher, I feel that he takes parts of history that are not as easy to understand and compares them to early to current US events. His teaching keeps you awake and able to keep up with what's being taught. His choice in grading is extremely fair. What ever you put into his class you will get out.
glad its over...liked class though
He is a fair teacher on grading. I worked really hard and improved over the semester and am rewarded with an A. Liked coming to lectures, interesting, and he's cute! N.S.
Just got my grade...ThoughtI would get a B, but am thrilled to find out I got an A...Mr. Jardine is a totally bad ass teacher...makes lectures fun... lots of energy.
Like class. Teacher has lots of energy. Seems to love history.
He's the sh___! Loved that class.
pretty good class; nice guy

After taking Hist. of West Civ from Wrightson, Jardine is a ****ing god. At first glance, Jardine may seem like an ****, but he's a great teacher and very fair. His lectures are engaging, the reading is relivant, and he really gives us a lot to work with to succeed in his class, unlike Wrightson. Jardine also kinda looks like Agent Smith.
Maybe you need to work on your studying skills...that's crazy! This guy is a GREAT lecturer, even if he does say "um" (I never noticed if he did anyway, maybe because he lectures with so much energy and makes it so interesting!
Even if he does say 'um' he still makes a great lecture, and presents all the information to the class well. This class is easy in the sense that if you pay attention and study, you will pass all the tests. He presents the info in an interesting way, its your job to get the good grade...
One of the best!
ok so he does like to hear himself talk but hey he is the professor and you paid to hear him talk he knows what he is talking about and if you listen in class and read for the group talks then you will do great it doesnt hurt if you just make conversation after class that way he remembers your name and all.and he is HOT hehe
chris is passionate about history, and so am i yet, his lectures dont cover exactly what is going to be on his tests. Alot of reading, but you if you analyze every word in the text you may get an A. He lectures well, but dont under estimate the difficulty of his exams, very technical and detail oriented for a history class .
Chris is very knowlegeable about history and has puts alot of enthusiasim into his lectures. Unfortunately, he rarely stays on topic and talks about things that has absolutely nothing to do with the class. Chris is the first person I have ever seen who can lecture for two hours with a cup of coffee in his hand and never set it down.
Excellent teacher who is ready to answer questions.
He is a great professor, lectures are fairly interesting. He gives you a study guide for the lectures even, and he covers all the knowledge you need to know for the 3 tests. 3 tests + 1essay make up your grade so don't miss anything, but as long as you pay attention, and study whats on the study guide and what he tells you, you will do fine.
great teacher!
Ummmm... he isn't a bad teacher, but i wouldn't recommend taking his class. His tests are confusing; they're multiple choice, but all the answers are too similar as if he wants to trick you! Ya...take someone else!
Perks: Chris is really into history and it shows. No "busy work"; just be present and awake, take the exams, and write an essay. Downfalls: took this in the summer, we ran out of time for the last sections, I wanted more WWII info! Chris wasted time lecturing off subject, he likes to hear himself talk. Take this class if it fits in your schedule.
He gets lost in his own little stories and then forgets to teach. This leads to him flying through some areas before the final, testing on things you don't know.
Prof. Jardine was a real godsend. His teaching style makes things fun. He has a sense of humor that can make the students who clearly have short attention spans pay attention. I was having a terrible time in life and missed a couple of classes and he worked with me. He also offers extra credit for those who need it. He is a great professor. S

awesome
I enjoy his lectures they are educational and make history fun to study. He is a good person
I loved his lectures! Very interesting(especially if you like history) If you take notes and study a little bit for exams, you will get an A or close to it. Great teacher. negatives:Likes to have 10-15 breaks if its a 3-hour class and sometimes gets carried away, but his passion for history makes up for it.
Good instructor -- smart, funny, knows his stuff. And hes kind of cute!
Oh yeah!
Great class! Super teacher; brings subject to life; very funny.
Oh yeah is right!!! He can teach me anytime!. And a good teacher too :).
Liked class. Lectures very interesting. I didn't like history before but this prof. brings it to life, and has lots of energy. My only complaint, is he doesn't always return emails quickly. But overall, a thumbs up!
MY BEST TEACHER EVER! HE MADE EVERY CLASS INTERESTING. I REALLY APPRECIATE HIM FOR HIS WORK AND OPINIONS.
Fun class; he's a passionate teacher; great sense of humor (cute too :).
Yes indeed! And totally enjoy his class. Makes it fun. Hes funny 2!
He has a great energy level and involves the class in everyday class lectures. He hands out an outline and works from the outline and exams come staight from the outline. He's clear and informative and well versed in the subjects he teaches.
Very easy class. I got over a hundred percent easily. I'm going to take another of his classes.
Good class. Prof has lots o energy and brings subject to life. Like him :)
interesting class. he is cool :)
Wow, this class was fun, but know that it is a long lecture the whole way through. Nice guy, makes class easy. Your grade is almost solely based on tests, youll only have about 3. A wie bit liberal, but luckily knows his boundaries. sense of humor definitly. dont try to piss him off cause he did snap once. hes funny, id have him teach again
His lectures were long and boring.. He constantly was changing what we needed to know..The tests were retarded, they werent questions they were "pair this word with this word". like:Stoic. Answer: Marcus Aurelius. What the heck! I learned some, but I felt like shooting myslef during his lectures.. it was one long semester..and he didnt grade fairly
Even though his lectures are long..sometimes boring and he goes off subject alot I am enjoying the class and him. Gives out study guides for the tests which r way easy. The out of class book is hard as hell to read tho. But there is extra credit and he's grade happy and gives a whole letter great+ if u participate and boosts grades whenever he can!
So far, I like the class. Gives quizzes a lot so you have to keep up, but there is a study guide and they are relatively straightforward. He is funny and knows his stuff, and really gets into it. Somewhat longwinded, but it is a 3 hour class. Surprisingly he does hold my attention most of the time.
Hes the best!!! Have had lots o history classes. This is the best experience I've had. He is very passionate, to the point, knowledgeable, super funny, personable, and yes, cute too! Taking him again for sure :)
Jardine is approachable and helpful. Lectures may be a lil' longer but very thorough and energetic. Attend class and take good notes.
Lectures are long but overall Jardine is good. Tests are fairly easy, just attend class.
Good class. If you do the work you should do pretty well. He is reasonable in grading. I didn't do as well as I wanted on the first exam, but first test helped me figure out his style. He also has a boyish charm about him. Take the class!
Professor Jardine is the best. He wants all his students to suceed. His outlines are detailed, his lectures are thorough, he's approachable & extremely helpful. Do a little studying and you should get an "A". & for the ladys, he's very easy on the eyes.
He is a very good teacher. He teaches and wants his students to get the best out of the historical aspects and he wants it all to stick with the students. I loved going to the class. He has a cute laugh. Although he is not good at answering to e mails, and his quizes are a bit tricky, I would suggest averyone to take his class. I would!
I enjoy his class and he is a wonderful teacher.
LOVE him! Took him over the summer; class was interesting and a breeze. You will learn, he's helpful, wants everyone to get an A,(i did)very lenient, ALL on test is covered in lecture-dont really need the book. Dont see why ANYONE would dislike him. Casual,kick-back attitude. He's def the one i'd recommend from all the ARC hist profs.
This is the first teacher I ever had who is so passion about his job, that he just talks talks and talks about the subject that does not even make any sense. His lectures are so boring. Give out a study guide that does not even help. I would not recommend this teacher to any one.
Great teacher. He is always available after class and replies to emails quickly. Lots of information covered in a short amount of time. His lectures are very animated off topic at times but keeps you engaged. Tests are simple you dont need to read the book to do well but it helps some. Willing to work with you
Christian is an awesome teacher!!! He is very energetic, passionate about history, especially Alexandr Hamilton. Definitely recommend him, grading is not strict, all you do is read and listen to his lectures, take the test and that's it! He is great, take him!
His lectures are fun but talks too much sometimes when we could've been done early ( after all you have to study from the book). Tests were hard. He tests on very little, unimportant things like what color was Napoleon's coat. I thought he could test on more importnt things that are worth studying. Guess his way to give bad grades.
Christian is ok. He knows his stuff and his grading is pretty lenient. The problem is that he thinks his students are all idiots because we're not all crazy about history. In the class I was in, no one wanted to ask him question if they were unsure about something because they were afraid of what he'd say. Makes his students feel stupid.
went to class with very little interest but learned a lot during semester. he talks a lot but is very passionate about history. took class during summer 2008. tells stories that keep the class flowing. some very funny stories. personable, entertaining and understanding. also very animated and loud. always has coffee in hand. easy to talk to.take it
i was in western history class. It was fairly easy. if you finish your book and answer you are good to go. The tests are based on the lectures and the timeline in the book. its easy if you come to class. he likes when ppl ask questions
Cool teacher, will take him again for hist 302.
Great class! Will take him again. He's funny, knows his history, fair grader (maybe too much; gives class extra points if we do bad), and not that tough as long as you study. Take class, it will keep you awake!
Awsome teacher. He sure knows how to take a boring subject and make it interesting. His enthusiasm for the subject is what makes the class so interesting. Take it Highly recommended!
Jumps all over the place! Very passionate, but difficult to follow.
i love jardine! he is such a nice guy and keeps lectures interesting. hes enthusiastic and funny. hes pretty lenient when it comes to grading. talk to him about tennis!
Not an easy professor to communicate with. Sometimes doesn't even answer email. Somewhat of a jackass. On the 1st day of class he stated its ok to be late every once in awhile then 5 seconds after he finished that sentence someone walked in late and he had a hissy fit. Class fairly simple. Simple exams one major paper.
The best history prof that I've ever had @ A.R.C. Nice guy and very understanding of circumstances. I would definitely recommend.
Oh my GoD! i just say one thing! i felt in love with him!!! he just magnitized me every time i saw him!!!i took with him 3 semesters, this is the last one. i don't know how i am going to live without him :)) take him and you won't regret!! Fall09.
he is really great! i took a few classes with him, he is one of the best professor at ARC!extremely knowledgeable about his subject, can talk for ever if you won't stop him. anyway,i recommend him he is #1!!!Fall 09
Excellent professor. very passionate about history. Long lectures but he manages to make them exciting.
He adds as many as the school will let him, so your chances of getting in are good. "Tests" are easy 15 question multiple choice quizzes. There is no final. If you take a lot of notes, you don't need the book. He will often repeat parts of his lecture or trail off into what books he's been reading lately. Oh, and he requires class participation.
Jardine is fine, a little slow on answering e-mails, but in general he is really nice and smart guy.. talks forever. take him, strongly recomended.
Doesn't take roll. 7 super easy 15 question quizes, and one written assignment at end. Gives a letter grade boost to top in class participants. Gave one extra cred assignment. So passionate, loved him. Hoping to take 302 with him. Can be a jack ass, but he's funny, and goes off on rants, but they're funny. He's intelligent/interesting. I Recommend!
Awesome!! Provides study guides annotated with test material, assigns zero homework and only one paper (formatting optional). Bonus points for participation and low test scores; lectures are interesting and relatable; he keeps things interesting. If you can't be bothered to pay attention and take notes, you shouldn't be taking up my parking.
Super cool prof! Interesting, knowledgeable n funny! His class is worth it! Kind of full of himself, I saw him on FB n he seems to love pics of himself...but gotta admit, looks prety darn good...haha!
Loved it! He's way funny, remindsme of Seinfeld. His lectures are very interesting. Take Jardines class!!!
Cool class, cool prof...looks like Adam Sandler...if you do the work you should do well...it's all there for you.
Jardine's the best prof ever!!! Hate history really; but love this class!
Extremely structured class. Provides in depth material on each of the major historical event. Defiantly would suggest this class to a friend. Regardless of your interest on a matter this class will be anything but boring.

Christian is the best History professor I've ever had at the community college level! He knows what he's talking about. His thesis was on European history so he lectures detailed information. His class consists of 7 mini exams, he takes out the lowest, 2 essays, and in class pop quizzes. I highly recommend Christian for History 300 and 302.
Great class. He is smart, articulate, and interesting. Do your reading. He's pretty hot too.
Christian is awesome, he doesn't dumb down his classes, is very well read and makes lecture interesting every class. Yes you have to work and know your history because the quizzes are very tricky, even for a history major! Must attend class if you want to do well, this is not a class or teacher to half-ass. Best Hist taken at college so far!
I dont like history, but is one of the proffesor was very interesting. His lecture are awesome. Of course there is homework but it easy read and answer questions. Final essay 6 pages, and 7 quizzes. Great proffesor.
When he is on topic he's an okay instructor. I could have done without all the yelling and overall rude behavior during lecture. But he goes off topic about 60% of every class and uses the classroom as his soapbox for his personal politics. I do not recommend this instructor if you prefer someone who stays on topic and actually covers the period that the class is supposed to be focused on. PS I'm not a jaded, angry failing student. I have a B so far.
This guy is great. Show up, particpate, take notes and you will do fine. His passion for his profession shines through.
Low quality of teaching. I do not recommend that instructor.
he is an intelligent and smart guy. the best professor i've ever had! very knowledgeable and informative.
Great Profesor homework is a bit hard but not worth a lot of points, quizzes are easy as long as you take accurate notes on his lectures, besides quizzes and homework you only have one essay to do which you can pick the topic of (easy doesnt even require MLA format)best part if you participate you get a full grade bump, overall best history profesor
Professor is very passionate about his subject. He is very knowledgeable and tries very hard to keep his personal and political views out of the classroom. His can be quite loud at times, which is generally not a problem, but once in a while can seem a little over the top. Grading system is fair, even too lenient at times.
Homework was easy, just read the textbook and answer the given questions. He's not a stickler on formality or MLA format. Quizzes were tricky, and the study guides weren't all that helpful. His lectures are unstructured and are difficult to follow. He's loud and very rude. Does not reply to emails. I do not recommend taking his class.
There are 13 homework assignments, but you only have to do 8 of them; easy points, so DO THE HOMEWORK! 7 quizzes that are 15 Q's; they can be a bit difficult at times, but he is pretty lenient on grading. He can be loud and rude at times, but who cares if it's a fairly easy class. I barely did any work and still got a B.
Christian is well-read, understanding, and loves to teach. He gets loud at times when the topic gets good, but we generally have friendly learning atmosphere. His class is not stressful, so when you are finished, your interest in History is not ruined. College workload, but you may actually enjoy doing them, like the historical movie review.
Really cool teacher! Staying on top of the homework is really important. You only have to do 8 of 13 assignments which is really cool! There are 7 mini exams, I found them to be really hard but do able.
Super class! Have enjoyed it, Prof knows his stuff, tells great stories, makes it fun and interesting, has a cool personality, very funny. Class it straightforward, if you pay attention to what is required you should succeed. I will take another class from him for sure!!!
One of the worst instructors ever; If you want a reason to hate everything about America, he’s your guy. If you want a real evaluation of American history, take another class. Horrible soap box lectures where he’s off topic more than on topic. He’s totally disorganized, arrogant and super political. He’s wrong about a lot of history too.
Lectures are all about his love to hear himself talk. Soapbox egocentric type more interested in his performance than teaching. Contradicts the text he requires in lectures and tests. Good luck knowing what to study. Gives topic of essays at last minute (no time to research & write) and NEVER ends class on time because he can't stop talking. AVOID
He has been the worse teacher I ever had in my entire life. His classes are basically listening to a guy talking about himself and what he likes about the time period that is usually out of topic. You won't learn anything in his class but loose your money and TIME!
Like many people have already said, he uses this class as a soapbox for his personal beliefs. He admits that not one person is entirely right when analyzing the pasts, but shoots each students ideas down, claiming his opinion as the only right one. Wastes everyones time, lets people out late, forgets to give the class breaks He says "uh" constant
Christian is an amazing professor. I just took his class during summer term and i enjoyed it very much. He explains things in a way that you can understand and really goes out of his way to accommodate the student to his/her needs. The only thing i didn't like is that he did take a long time to respond to an email.
Not a great teacher. He goes off on rants often and talks even after the class is over so the class coming in has to wait. He was very rude when I would ask a question. I don't recommend taking a course with this teacher if you enjoy staying on time in the course and on topic.
This professor is very poor. He teaches the class however he wants rather than what is necessary. He talks even after class and one time kept us almost 15 min after class had ended.I am the one who asks many questions outside of class but I felt that the amount of respect he gave me was very low as if I was to stupid.
He doesn't like time restraints, and lets us know every class by keeping us late. It'd be one thing if he were still lecturing, but stories about things that have nothing to do with the class are just a waste of time. And he will post information we need to class online the night prior, and yes we are still responsible for it. He talks down to us
Believe me! You must do your work and don't fall behind or it won't be pretty(did I scare u?). Really though! Work your best in this class. His test score are base on how hard you study. Don't you dare pass out half way. Will smile shine on your path. Have fun with history!!
Love the topic, love the teacher, awesome class
Arrogant? I could see he may at first seem that way. But If you bother to talk to him for 5 min. after class you will be very surprised. He is super nice. hes super smart , knowledgable, lectures interesting, and he is way funny. Its been a fun class.
Really good prof. Detailed Lectures. 7 exams drops one. 13 hw assignments but only have to do 8. Nice and cares about his students. Entertaining lectures.
Good teacher, good class. Made it fun.
Professor Jardine makes Western Civilization a subject you will enjoy! I was not looking forward to History 302 but the Professor made every moment worth while. The lectures were engaging, informative and captivating. The assignments are not restrictive and you have plenty of time to complete the eight homework and last day essay. Exceptional!
Class was great! Prof is warm, engaging, and helpful. His lectures are interesting to the point of exciting, and I don't even really like history. And the amount of work required is not easy, but not unreasonable. I would definitely take him again.
Class was easy and fun. The best combination. Would take again.
He was a great professor. He would adjust score if the class as a whole did poorly. I enjoyed his lectures. Very helpful and fun.
Engaging lectures, is more like a theater show! He really knows how to keep your interest in a subject that could be boring to people. Very smart and intellectual; knows his subject and some. His test are bit difficult, as in confusing. I would highly recommend him, wish all college professors were as interesting as Professor Jardine!
Great prof. interesting lectures. easy class if you study at all. highly recommend this class and prof.
Professor Jardine is a fun, energetic instructor who clearly enjoys his job. Expect to take LOTS of notes and read the textbooks, this is the only way to get As on quizzes and participation will reflect in your final grade. On a side note- I must say he is one of the BEST dressed professors I have ever had. I really enjoyed his sharp style.
He's Awesome! I took him in the summer and was not disappointed! I looked forward to his lectures cuz he is like a theater show! you will not fall asleep, not because he is interesting (he is) but because he yells when he gets into the topic! I have a crush on him just because he's that good! He cares about your grade, so respect him and youll pass
Teacher is lazy, doesn't like to pass back homework, doesn't like to print out important documents for next class lecture, and won't let you take your test home to study what you got wrong because he says that it is his property, not yours. Goes through slides too quick. Lectures are long. Homework is essay heavy, 2+ pages. Final's essay, 5+ pages.
Professor helps you learn. Reading is encouraged so you can absorb the material. It is especially helpful if you read the material before the class, so you can participate, and be involved in the discussion. Professor Jardine deserves a 9 out of 10 for his ability to help you achieve...
Great prof. passionate. funny. knows his history. fair. makes it fun. and very sharp dresser. learned a lot.
Prof. Jardine is a very good teacher. He is very lecture heavy, but that is nature of a history class. He does not demand much, just that you are respectful during lectures. He will help you succeed, but he won't hold your hand either. You have to be willing to work and take the steps necessary if you are falling behind.
Love him!! He tells it like it is; he makes sure to bring everyones perspective into history, and he does not sugar coat. Be prepared to learn more than you thought you would ever in a 3 unit junior college class! Go to lecture, have a good laugh and a great discussion, learn, and USE his study guide!! He gives you everything you need right there!
Loved this professor. One of the best. Great dresser too.
I used to hate history, but now I love it, thanks to Christian. I could see getting a major in history, thanks to Christian. I enjoy history so much now that I read it in my spare time, thanks to Christian. He is an awesome and a decent human being and I see the world in a different light - thanks to Christian.
class just ended and didn't have to take last test cause he drops lowest score n i did good enough on all the others to get an A without taking the last. mostly lectures, but made it interesting. knows his history for sure. is flexible, gives you extra time to do assignments n essay, gives extra points on exams. if you do the work it is not to hard
Just finished a second friday class two semesters in a row with him. Prof Jardine makes 3 hours fly by. His lectures are super interesting, and he is very into the subject, and has a really funny sense of humor. He gives you everything you need to succeed, if you don't do good, it must be you. One of my favorite profs and I have had many.
Professor Jardine makes the 3 hour class interesting he class has humor as well as the participation is expected; . His lectures reflect the reading we are suppose to have done from the homework book and the book used for lectures but this professor gives you the tools necessary to obtain a solid passing grade and feel connected to the class.
Prof Jardine knows his subject thoroughly, has lots of passion and energy, and has a quirky sense of humor. He can be impatient with comments made by students, but he is still very nice guy. He dresses to the nines for EVERY class. Does he wear a tie, vest and hat to mow his lawn? Maybe :)
Prof Jardine is one of my favorite instructors. I have had two of his classes now. His passion an energy bring the subject to life so much he held most of the classes interest for 3 hours. Do the work according to instructions , pay attention in class, and you should succeed. Dresses to the nines. I recommend him highly.
i admit I don't like history and I didn't really like this prof much. glad it is finally over. But he is a real good teacher. He knows the material, has a lively personality is sometimes funny, and lays things out clearly so you know what to do to get a good grade.
Jardine is my favorite history professor, and I major in the subject. There are one or two that I might say are better overal teachers, but he combines passion for the subject with knowledge with an eccentric style of dress and funny personality, which all added up to a great experience.
You learn a lot, he makes it fun, and not too hard. I plan to take him again.
This instructor is okay, but I wouldn't recommend him. His mini exams are timed, which is not good for a history class. When our class asked for him to extend the time, he got combative and irritated, until someone said they read slow and he finally extended the time. His grading is haphazard and lectures are mediocre. I enjoy history, but not this
Great professor. Easy class to pass. Study lectures for quizzes. Fair grader. Over all would definitely take his class again. :)
Great class. The exams were super easy. I didn't really even read the text. Just studied my notes. He makes it very lively and interesting too. Offers extra credit. He drops your lowest exam score, there is one small essay, and 8 homework assignments. Would take this professor again no doubt.
Great teacher. My first college class in years. At summer at night, three hours long, and exams online. I was bewildered at first. I pestered prof jardine constantly. He was patient, helpful and kind. I owe him a big thanks after getting a good grade. He helped guide me through.
Fun class. Passionate lectures, very funny guy, spiffy dresser, and not too hard. Highly reccomend!
Good class, good prof. If you do the work, come to class, and follow instructions there is no reason you cant get an A in this class. Pretty straight forward. If you want to get through history class without to much work and headaches I would take his class.
Exam + Hw weekly, reading and studying seem to be all the time. 1 essay (5+pages and grammar counts!). He lectures good. It's on point and covers what you need to know for the weekly exams. If you read and do the weekly hw that is typing/writing up answering questions from the reading, then you should do OK. If not, ask him. He will help. He cares!
Very fair and willing to work with you to attain the best grade possible. Lectures are a bit confusing at first but once you get the system he goes by it becomes very easy to follow, you just have to listen. You will need to take a LOT of notes in class to survive the exams.
Great class. Makes subject interesting. Has serious passion for History. Clear about what you need to do. Not too hard if you pay attention. A number of small exams/quizzes, one 5 page paper, some homework, not to much. X-credit. Would take instructor again.
First semester of college and I feel so lucky to have had him as a professor. I would definitely take him again if I could, he is just great and hilarious. He is not strict, as long as you pay attention and take good notes, should pass the exams, and homework is easy he isnt a tough grader and Im not much for history but he made it interesting!!
Took his 3 hour Friday class thinking it would be torture but was pleasantly surprised, he makes it interesting. Would take again for sure. Seems like a hard class, but here is a tip. A friend of mine thinks the same thing. If you take the class serious and show up and do the work he gives you benefit of the doubt.
Super good class and professor. Jardine loves the subject n makes it fun. I knew nothing about Western Civ n thought I would hate it. I learned alot n the exams are very very easy n their aren't that many assignments. Small amount of homework
Not hard to get an A if you show up and keep up. Class was straightforward. He gives study guides that really help you to ace the tests. Offers extra credit. Is always willing to give you extra guidance if you seek it. Makes Western Civilization super interesting. Lectures are informative and full of good stories about the past.
Three hour class thought it would be very dull. He spices it up with lots of energy and makes it actually interesting. I am already enrolled in another of his classes. Doesn't expect to much but i learned much too.
This class was truly inspirational. It was just a great experience all around. Thank you professor Jardine. Take him!
Prof Jardine is amazing !! Fun games and enjoyable lectures. He explains clearly the material, I enjoyed navigating on historical websites that he provides and the group discussions lead to thoughtful and critical thinking. I Would definitely take him again.
Prof Jardine is awesome. He makes history come alive and gives you something to think about. Participation matters to him and he offers a 0.5 boost to the final grade for his students who actively participate in his class.
Great class, super prof! He has a passion for history that is infectious. I look forward to going to class and it was 3 hours long. I hope to take him again. And the workload is very manageable
Horrible. His exams are way too hard and have nothing to do with lectures. He is so rude to students and is not reasonable with grading at all.
Professor Jardine is a cool guy. For those who don't really like history, the lectures might get a little boring. However, he tries to keep the class involved. He's very caring of his students. He always encourages his students to talk to him if they have a concern with their grade. He is always willing to work with students.
His class is very broing. Exams are very hard. 7 exams are atken online but it's impossible to find the answers. I am a 4.0 studnet and it's my first time in life failling a class. I think it's good to take this class online if history is not your major. summer might be a best choice for this class.
exit this page and turn around now. his quizzes are all online and very difficult. his lectures are boring and doesnt clearify what each exam is on. he has shown up late to class before too. do not take him.
OMG! What is up? This class was soooooo easy, and people are complaining about it? LOL. Everythings straightforward, there isn't that much work, and he gives you many breaks and chances. I sat in front and never heard him say no to anyone asking for an extension on an assignment or a make-up test or whatever. I barely used the book.
Best teacher I've ever had. Pay attention to his lectures and just do the work. Truly inspiring teacher. Took three classes with him.
Professor Jardine was and is the best professor I have ever taken in college. He won't mollycoddle you, which as an adult you shouldn't want or need. His classes are absolutely the best, and I love his mini-exams because they make you think. His classes are interesting, and besides that there is not another best dressed man in the county!
Bad lectures, barely any text on the slide, pictures mostly. Couple of homework assignments that were worth 8 points and 3 tests. I went to every lecture and read every chapter and failed the first exam. On top of it all, I asked him if there is a better way to study for his exams and he was just rude and condescending to me.
THE most confusing professor. His deadlines are wildly unclear. He will explain deadlines saying, "It's due two weeks after the initial paper's deadline which is a week before ...." When you email him, he still won't give you actual dates. You would think he would understand dates being important as a history teacher?? If you can battle this, EZ A.
Don't take online. My only complaint is that his group project due dates were unclear. He refuses to give dates, seemingly because he teaches at different schools with different schedules. I have taken many online classes but this one by far was the least organized. Other than this, he is a caring instructor, and his lectures aren't bad.
Took class when Covid happened so it started in a classroom and ended being online. I loved prof Jardines lectures in person, but the class was much easier once it went online. It looked like he gave people a break under the crisis situation. He did with me. So he is fair too
Have had this professor before, once in person and then online. I feel this is one of the most underrated teachers here. He is fair, likable, great knowledge and energy, & has depth to his intellectual ability. Seems like more of a university prof, maybe why he isn't as popular. Classes are not hard if you do the assigned work
This class is not hard, but it is being made hard. The weekly mini exams make more than 60% of scores. They are super hard and misleading. You have to remember 100s names after studying the two chapters, otherwise you get F in mini exam. Other part of the class is good. This class is not for me, I am not good in memorizing names and cities.
Hi guys, honestly I would never take this prof again. I'm not sure if it's because he doesn't teach online courses, but his exams are extremely difficult. I watch lectures and read the book (w/ notes) and still somehow get low grades... And for background, I am a 4.0 nursing student. I will be getting an A, but the prof didn't make it easy at all.
I enjoy this professor's lectures very much, however, his tests seem excessively difficult. Some questions that show up on the tests should be asked of people who have studied the subject for years. In my opinion, he needs to either cover test subjects in lectures or not bring them up in tests... avoid him if you don't like being blindsided by Q's.
His class is very hard sobyou need to work for it. Read and study hard and do the task correctly.
Needs to be much more clear. The dude doesn't know how to be concise... his emails and announcements were overloaded with words when a normal person could easily just consolidate it into a few sentences. I don't mind reading it all, but things get confusing when he aimlessly writes himself in circles. Be aware of this if you choose him. Good luck:)
Taking him online is rather annoying. His announcements are very long and contain many inconsistent dates which get annoying since you can't tell when things are due. This disorganization makes it easy to miss assignments. Tests are rough and are very specific, only 15 questions but almost 50 points. Hard to keep a decent grade with his class setup
It is almost impossible to communicate with him over email. If you ask him a direct question, he will find a way to not answer it. Ive never had this issue with a professor since usually they value student time and want to be clear and concise. He is a nice and understanding guy, but he is a FRUSTRATING professor.
This class would have been SO easy had it not been for this profs deadlines being so confusing. If you take this class, MAKE SURE you double check these deadlines. He doesnt know how to use Canvas efficiently, and posted some of his deadlines in announcements and some assignments in Files. If u have used canvas, u know that is just not the way.
His class in person: good choice His class online after COVID: DONT DO IT
Content just does not make any sense! There was room for extra credit but it was zoom meetings and class was Asynchronous so I personally was not prepared for the bilnd sided Synchronous meetings.
This class definitely took me out of my comfort zone. It is based on "group work" through discussion boards in which you post and respond to the rest of your group's posts. I do not like working in groups so I was nervous to type the wrong thing. Many mini-quizzes. Lots of reading. Funny, but long lecture videos. Straightforward class, & good prof.
DON'T TAKE IF YOU HAVE FOCUSING PROBLEMS. History classes usually focus on the how's and why's of events rather than specifics, he even mentions this once. However when it comes to his mini exams they're extremely specific and rely on passing comments he makes in this three hour long lecture videos to which he offers no alternative option to learn.
I'm sure his in-person classes are fun but online just isn't it. His work dominates my entire week and I have three other classes to worry about but the very specific quizzes are the bulk of your grade despite all the work. His argument is college shouldn't be easy but especially in times like these a step back would be nice.
My experience was not great with him. He's funny and witty,but... I would never take him again. It depends on what type of person you are tho. I'm organized, hate pointless discussions and straight to the point. My friend is a complete opposite and she loved him. His exams STRESSED me out. They're made of vague tricky questions based on HIS opinion.
the homework takes a lot of your time. Every week you need to read a chapter of the textbook. His mini exams are so hard. After you select an answer for a question, it will not let you go back to change it if you change your mind. His communication isn't great. I have emailed him numeral times and no response. I even tried through canvas
I honestly loved this Professor so much and was sad the class ended. He is really funny and obviously loves history. I do not like history but still enjoyed the class. There is so much homework online but you really do walk out of this class with a solid foundation of historical events.
The homework (at least for the online class) is pretty easy, mostly just discussions. The teacher is nice. However, the "mini-exams" are impossible. I am good at history, but not great at tests. There's too much material to be able to effectively study for the time provided, and the teacher provides no room for error. The tests are worth too much.
In this class you can write amazing essays and do every assignment, and still get your grade decimated by a "mini exam". As a full time employee taking two classes, it shouldn't be impossible to pass. especially after sitting through MULTIPLE hour long lectures and taking 13+ pages of notes. Would recommend not taking his class over summer.
Prof Jardine seems like a cool guy, he clearly loves talking about history. My issue with him are his "mini exams". Read all the required text and listened to the lectures? You're still getting a failing score. Worse, they're worth a lot of points. You will certainly learn a lot, but that might not show on your gradebook.
DONT TAKE! Harder than my organic chem class. Exams are horrid. Read the text book watched the "lecture videos" and the highest grade I got on an exam was a C the class average was always around 30% if that. He "curves" the average by very little. Doesnt grade your assignments for MONTHS. And theres not enough of them to cushion the horrible tests.
Great professor and gives a clear understanding of history. Do not take this course if you're looking for an easy A. The mini exams require you to extensively take notes during the lectures, and actually take the information in. The exams are pretty difficult but get easier as you learn to take in his lectures through his teaching style.
I am in the middle of his course, and this is the biggest mistake I made, out of all of my class choices. This is the only class I do not have an A in (I currently have an F in the class). When I realized how poorly I was doing. I doubled down and took scrupulous notes. With all of my hours of studying and pages of notes, I got an F on the test.
Amazing lecturer, pretty witty and funny. Not too many assignments, and the essays/discussions aren't difficult, so the workload isn't very big. 60% of the grade is his mini-exams, which are very difficult. Luckily, he curves all of them to a 70% average, but without the curve the mean score is typically an F on the exams. Lectures are important.
Would not recommend
DON'T TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES. By far the worst class: his video lectures are long and focus on random facts. I know that most ppl got C averages on the exams; you have 30 minutes to answer 15 very specific and difficult questions. He is an irresponsible historian; denied the impact of systemic injustice on history. Felt shoved into a box as woman
Challenging class with detailed mini-exams and long video lectures. But the professor is nice and the homework is manageable. Unstuckstudy proved helpful for studying and quiz prep.
This was a very easy class to take online. I would take again!
Great professor! His lectures are long and often mundane. However, he dropped many assignments due to his own mistakes, so we only have 12 the whole semester! It is very hard to reach him over email and his extra credit opportunities are slim, but he's a great dual enrollment professor & I'd take his class again!
3 Mini-essays to do each about different prompt you get to choose, about 7 exams to take. Pretty easy and straight forward as long as you do the lectures and reading. Everything is posted before for you to do at any time. Pretty easy and recommended class to take.
His style of teaching is very old school, he really only talks the whole class and lets you take notes of slides he has. Eeryday is the same thing so if you like that teaching style then he is for you.
