Peterson was a very unhelpful teacher who graded a history paper like an english.
peterson did an awesome job.
Alot of reading, but not unreasonably so. Work hard, attend class, and participate he will reward the effort with a little bit of lenience in grading. The final is kind of tough, but you're allowed to bring one page of handwritten notes for the essay portion.
Overall a decent teacher but he assigns a lot of work,a TON of reading. He is somewhat reasonable when it comes to grading, he will work with you to a certain extent. Make sure you take notes and attend class regularly unless you really want to fail. His midterms and finals are hard so be sure to review the material ahead of time.
He does expect alot of reading, but is a funny guy and really relates to his students. If you show up to class and try you should do well, and get some good laughs along the way.
had online; requires a lot for all assignments (documentation from so many different sources/ ect.) pain in the butt really...had it in the summer..don't do it.
If you attend class, and do your quizes you should pass with ease. Classes arn't boring and you learn alot. Although the few papers you have to write are alot of work.
Very excited about history, loves to explain and is very willing to help during office hours. Online Quizzes about every week (open book). VERY DIFFICULT papers. Not all attendance is mandatory but he does random attendance days so if you aren't there you don't get the points.
Easy class. It mostly consist of power point notes. The hard parts are the quiz's each week, and the 4 or 5 papers that he will assign over the semester.
I did not like this professor at all. He assigned a TON of reading for this class, and if you have any difficult classes, you will definitely find it hard to keep up. He was somewhat entertaining in class but very vague and sometimes confusing. I would not recommend.
Awesome class. This dude killed several bees in class. He also teaches with excitement, which keeps the class interesting. The papers are a little hard, but the grading is pretty fair on them. Make sure you get the quizes done on time and read the material. Final was pretty easy. I recommend Peterson any day.
This is one of the best teachers I have ever had in College. He is really into what he teaches and keeps classes interesting. I literally watch this man jump flat foot onto a table. Awesome. You have web quizes once a week (open book). Easy if you do your work.
Very entertaining man. Online quizzes are tricky sometimes, but you get a half hour or more and as long as you read the questions carefully and thoroughly think your answer through you will do great. Grading on papers is fair. Extra credit opportunities available. Final exam was a breeze (former quiz questions, word for word). Highly recommend.
Hilarious. Very exciting professor. Keeps you awake, especially with his passion for teaching. I used a voice recorder in my Microsoft Word program while taking notes. I still go back and listen to the hilarious things he says. Stay on top of reading and be an active participant, thats an Easy A.
Peterson assigns A LOT of reading. Almost makes no sense on how he thinks students can stay kept up with his readings. Insane to me how unreasonable he is for making people read so much. It's like BRO, you're not the only class we are taking. Hes a fool. Attendence isnt mandatory but he checks rando
Easy class. You can really tell he loves what he teaches. A little crazy at times but he makes history interesting.
I love this professor. He Was awesome. he gets so into history that he forgets the time. If you don't like history, don't take this professor. his sessions make me not want to go to my next classes.
Best professor i have ever had. His lectures are very interesting and keep your attention. Takes attendence randomly for points, all tests and quizes online. Love this professor, would highly recomend
All homework and exams are online. Rotate taking the test with friends and sharing the answers and you'll easily get an A. Nothing has a set due date so you can honestly do it whenever you feel like it. I have 0 interest or knowledge in history and easily got an A. Great guy and always there to help.
Hsitory 250 is suppose to be a tough class and he was a tough teacher, at first. He scared me the first day of class and I thought, I am never going to pass. He is intimidating and he has a very strong voice. Yet when I went to him because I was confused he really helped me and made me understand what I needed to do. He has a great personality!
recommend that if you need a history class to take with Professor Peterson, he is a great teacher and actually makes history interesting to learn about.
Very good class. Class is nothing but lecture, he does capture your attention.
Started off this course with high hopes, but they have quickly fallen. There is a lot of weekly reading due in the form of discussions. On top of the weekly posts, there are difficult MC tests, journals, and other monotonous entries. He is so lazy that all your journals and midterm are the exact same question. He will never give full credit either.
Professor Peterson is definitely an interesting dude. His personality really helps with this course because he's funny and makes things interesting. There are quite a few assignments assigned that aren't super easy but you have to do them in order to pass. Lots of reading, takes attendance randomly and lots of work online.
He is a great, enthusiastic professor who is really into history. In order to do his take home quizzes truth fully, you must read! If you read before the class it will make class go by much quicker because he expects you to answer questions and he will sit there doing nothing if you don't.

He is a magical beast.
Hes a good teacher whos hilarious & laid back. Hes strict on cell phones but the homework is very limited. Just stay up on the reading and come to class.
Peterson is awesome! So much energy, extremely interesting, and cool guy. It's a very lecture heavy class but everything is intriguing. I highly recommend Peterson to anyone.
Take Notes to pass
Great Prof, would take again!
He is amazing. Lectures are interesting - take notes!! Do your readings and take notes on them before each class and you'll pass with an easy A. 2 papers. Offers tons of extra credit. Takes attendance randomly - so choose wisely. Take him!!
He graded a paper and gave me a zero because a student and I had the same quote from a source even though we each referenced it the right way and it shouldnt have mattered. Extremely difficult grader.
Not the professor you want for this class
Peterson is my favorite professor I've ever had. Im convinced he is the smartest professor on campus. He is very organized and doesn't mess around when it comes to lectures. He makes the content interesting and is very enthusiastic. He offers a lot of extra credit. MAKE SURE you stay up on the readings and go to class and you'll be successful.
Awesome professor. He makes class so interesting. DO NOT go on your phone - he hates electronics. Always makes jokes and awesome lectures - take good notes! Tons of extra credit opportunities. Online quizzes that you can take over and over to get 100%. Super easy A class
He was awful. Definitely would not take his class again. He acts like it wasn't just a 100 level class and like it was a 300 level class.
Stresses that students need to follow the grammar and spelling rules that he uploads at the beginning of the class and then never follows them himself. He will knock your points on the tiniest grammar mistake, while in his comments he will misspell everything. Never gave out a rubric for any of the assignments so he always gave random points.
Professor Peterson is a great professor. He tells you exactly what he expects out of you in the assignments. He gives you additional resources that are optional, but are great and help you understand the material better if you are having a difficult time. I highly recommend him.
Great professor. I will tell you all how to pass. Simply show up, show that you care, ask questions, do all the readings, come to class prepared and ready to review documents. Tons of extra credit is available throughout the semester. Professor Peterson is hilarious and makes history interesting. If you care and try you will suceed at this class.
Many times content is missing from assignment and when you ask where to find the information via email, he responds with "Look at the Course". Vey lazy and entitled. The online class is not laid out very well and must access multiple pages to get information for an assignment. Pushes grammar hard during grading but uses very poor grammar himself.
the dude is a you know what, things he knows everything there is to know about history, will yell for no reason make you take quizzes on things that you haven't learned yet then after everyone fails the quiz he will then go over what you just failed. The guy is an ego dump don't take his class.
Want to take a class where you're expected to know virtually everything beforehand and not get help? Want to take a class where you have an entirely rude professor that gives vague instructions? Want to take a class where his examples of other work is an excuse for him to demonstrate his own work? Then this is the class for you!
Worst professor I've had at Ferris. Very self-important and entitled. 10/10 will be avoiding any of his classes in the future. If you can take someone else, do it.
Peterson is a fun professor, and he gives you the chance to be active in class and state your opinions. While he does play devil's advocate, he does understand and acknowledge your opinions. He doesn't grade harshly, but you MUST go to class to know what the tests are about. Overall, he has great/interesting lectures but you can not slack.
Most people that are rating him bad are the people who don't show up/participate, or people who do the bare minimum in his class. Great professor. Simply show up, show that you are listening, ask questions, do all the readings, come to class prepared and ready to review documents. Tons of extra credit is available so if you fail, it's on you, not P
Dont listen to negative reviews on Peterson- take it from me, I had him twice. The best professor at FSU. If youre looking for a prof whos enthusiastic, entertaining, & cares about your success.. look no further. He made me passionate about things he lectured on & I genuinely was excited for class. Its an honor to have had him, a complete legend
I hated history throughout high school, but this man made me open up my eyes. I was never into politics but honestly he made the class very interesting and will for sure make your day. If your into debating or just a challenge take this class. You have to show up, get the books/read, and watch out for pop quizzes. lots of extra credit too.
One of the most rewarding classes Ive ever taken. One of the most well rounded professors ive ever had. Would take this class one hundred times over.
He is the toughest grader & I've had yet to see a single 100% be handed out for something as simple as a discussion board. His quizzes are very hard even when you do all the reading & take detailed notes on it. Reading takes 10+ hours a week. When I asked for help because I was struggling he told me he'd think about it. Be ready to teach yourself!
LOTS OF READING. Pretty much all of the assignments were tests and quizzes. When I asked him if the book were in fact required his response was snarky and most of his conversations on canvas or announcements followed this as well. So much reading that it was hard to keep up with if you are taking other classes that require studying often.
Prof. Peterson taught a lecture heavy class. You'll do a lot of readings and have pop quizzes on them. If you don't like to read or take pop quizzes he isn't the right professor for you.
Overall, he was not the teaching style that I enjoy. Other people might like this. He was an incredibly tough grader and there was so much reading that I did not have a lot of time for. I feel bad because he is a great teacher, I was just not prepared for the amount of work there was to do for his class.

Wouldn't recommend
If you want a teacher that barely responds to your emails then here you are. You get random document quizzes so be sure you read everything assigned although he doesn't make attendance mandatory but if you miss a class you miss a lot. VERY lecture heavy and lots of reading.
This professor is very stark. He said himself that he needs to be better. Every single one of his quizzes or tests, and quite frankly, every single module I have spelling mistakes and grammar issues, but he is a very big stickler about them. Seems like you were bothering him when you contact him. I will never take this guy again.
If you want a class where the professor stands pacing in the front of the room while yelling about the subject this is for you. there are random attendance checks, and pop quizzes but other than those grades it is just your three multiple choice & three analysis massive tests worth no less than 600 points a piece.
He is funny as hell just take notes
Professor Peterson is very energetic and excited about history. I took this class as a cultural credit and thought it would be an easy A or B. As long as you read, show up to class, and pay attention in class you will be fine. It is very hard to understand the notes since he talks fast but all exams are online and open note. A LOT OF READING!
This class is very challenging for a history class but you will learn so much. He connects history to our present and gives helpful insights. Be ready for lots of reading and note taking. As long as you pay attention to him and answer questions, you will succeed in this class.
The people who give Peterson less than a 4 didn't put in the effort necessary to deserve a grade higher than C. It's simple, if you do the reading, if you attend class and listen to the lectures, and take advantage of the 15+ extra credit assignments he gives, then there is no reason you should get less than a B. He isn't bad, you just suck.
Pay attention and take notes in class, you should be fine. Random quizzes and lots of readings but everything is open notes. Pretty funny.
-Extra Credit -Get Ready to Read -Amazing Lectures (good information given) -Clear Grading Criteria (very strict on following Instructions given) -Gives (semi)Good Feedback -Hilarious(loves sharing the stories of his life) -Online Savvy(lots of work is online so you can work at your own pace) -Test(exam) Heavy
Random pop quizzes, really hard essay grader, talks all lecture and never cancels class, pretty funny and interesting guy
Awesome professor, really enjoyed this class. Professor Peterson knows so much about history and not just surface level info. If you like history take this class. Make sure you keep up on reading the 2 books for class, will be random reading quizzes. Really not that hard if you read the books and participate a little in class.
This class was honestly super good. I usually hate history classes but he makes you want to listen with the way he talks. It is A LOT of reading homework though and there are pop quizzes on the reading, but you get credit for just attempting them even if you don't know the answer. He gives a lot of extra credit though.
He is a tough grader and is very picky about a few things, which can be seen as harsh by some but it is very doable. I found this class to be very entertaining in comparison to a typical history class, due to his teaching style and personality. Be ready for one or two-question pop quizzes based on the many readings he expects you to complete.
I really enjoyed his class. There is a lot of reading, but it really balances out because he does not assign homework outside of the exams. He does random quizzes and random attendance but as long as you do the reading it's very easy.
Prof. Peterson seems like a good guy however I hated this class, he just stands in the front of the class all day and yells at you about random things. There are times where he is funny however it is outweighed by the boredom of this class. He says attendance is not required but will give out 10 random reading quizzes worth 100 points.
Boring class, really did not learn much, random attendance,
He is absolutely crazy in the best way. Bro is so high energy and passionate about history. At first, I thought he would be a really hard professor but he's actually pretty chill. He offers lots of extra credit if you put in the work and will help in any way as long as you ask.
Professor Peterson is a great, funny, and enthusiastic guy. However, this was the hardest class I have ever had to take. He is kind of all over the place and doesn't stay on topic. I feel as though a lot of his lectures are filled with copious amounts of useless information. It is vital that you take notes on the class sheets for midterms.
This class is unbelievably information heavy--even for a college class. You need to take notes on almost everything in the textbook, as well as everything he says in class. He also gives random reading quizzes. There is sooo much information that it is so hard to remember stuff. He does give many opportunities to boost your grade though.
Very passionate about history. His lectures are energetic and engaging. He gives out lots of extra credit and will help you if you show effort. Gives random reading quizzes. His exams are challenging, but he will generally curve the grades. His grading scheme confuses me. Good for History majors!
Professor Peterson was very understanding throughout the course as long as there was communication. The class was easy as long as you completed the required readings, which were surprisingly interesting. In short take Peterson but make sure you are actually dedicated to the class. It is not a blow off elective by any means.
Keep up with the reading schedule!
Professor Peterson is accommodating and helpful if you are putting forth effort. He is very passionate about history, and it can make it motivating. You will need to stay on top of readings.
Peterson is very passionate about history and may seem a little crazy but he means well. There are random pop quizzes but the majority of the time they are open note. DO THE READINGS! TAKE NOTES! AND YOU WILL PASS! I was nervous when the semester started but in the end I did really well with his help. He is super knowledgeable so ask questions!!!!!
Teaches kinda all over the place, but has that right amount of crazy all good history proffs need. The class isn't hard if you take note of what he stars on the board and skim the text books before lectures and quizzes. If you don't have any energy, look for another class.
I took HIST 361 from him (although that course number is not an option on this website). Most of the assignments in this class were 5 question quizzes based on hundreds of book pages. The questions weren't based on big takeaways or central themes but random little bits of information that made quizzes impossible. Avoid taking this class if you can.
He clearly knows a lot about the material, and if you put forth the effort you will pass. He is very accessible and understanding, and his office hours are really helpful. The textbook was horrible, EXTREMELY dense, with no headings. Also the quizzes were based on memorizing random facts buried in the material, but the papers were fine.
HISTORY 212- This class required A LOT OF WORK. Essay and Journal heavy in my opinion. The quizzes are solely based on very specific facts of the readings not really big picture things for World History. I think I probably would have liked him better in person, seems like a knowledgeable dude but doesn't even post virtual lectures.
Honestly a great professor. You will learn a lot and the lectures are definitely engaging. If you're honest with him, he's honest with you. Overall a good professor. As a history major, Would definitely take again.
