Course very easy, prof very leniant
Not very impressed
No Comments
Anyone who failed didn't show up. Gives the test questions in advance.
One of the best profs ever. Sure, she does speak soflty a bit, but she's learning to be more comfortable with the students. Very lenient in the markings (thank you, Christian, for that mark change in my mid-term!). Knows her stuff very well.
Compassionate, understanding and knows her stuff! Strong views! Funny & makes you laugh!
doesn't speak loud enough
Very unclear in her lectures
I did not sign up to hear someone talk about something all year that she will be getting back to, and don't worry it'll make sense later.
Liked Christian a lot. Useful criticism and a sincerity with her students that is uncommon at our university. Liked her class, she made it relevant and worthwhile.
Awesome teacher- she's tough , but fair. Makes you work for everything you get.I learned so much. She really opens up my perspectives on aboriginal issues. Loved her class!
She is not helpfull at all with understanding the assignments and very unprepared for class. I pay to b taught not teach myself. This is her career it wouldnt help to dress more profesional while you are at work.
I have only just started taking her class, but i love it! I like that it is very casusal and everyone can have an opinion in the discussions we have without being judged or told you are wrong. She is very easy going, but could be a little more organized for class. So, far she has told us almost everything that will on our midterm too!
Generally has a good understand of the topics. She speaks very quietly during lectures and the info is quite dry. She seems unprepared in her lectures and stumbles often while speaking. Very personable outside of class and leniant with assignments.
Christian is a fantastic instructor. She is helpful and accomodating. She wants all her students to succeed. Put the work into your assignments and you will receive a great mark. The assignments are reasonable and she is a fair marker. Sit closer to the front as she speaks quietly. You will take better notes. Take her class, she is wonderful!
Dr Thompson has good intentions and I enjoy her sense of humour. But, she has the tendancy to talk much too quietly, making it difficult to take efficient notes. Also, she is not always clear in what she's looking for on assignments. That said, I find her exams to be quite easy. She tells you what you need to study. Painfully boring class, however.
Nice lady, but an absolutely useless prof. The most frustrating class I've ever taken! She is difficult to understand. She speaks way too quietly. Even when you can hear her it is impossible to understand what she is trying to articulate. She is extremely awkward and clearly uncomfortable in front of the class. Does not explain assignments at all!
Christian Christian Christian,When i was in her class she miss marked 3 of my assignments by more than 15 percent cause she sits at tims and marks(so double check EVERYTHING),as well as mumbled everything, she wasnt willing to help and didnt want us emailing her.It wasnt extremely difficult but I would NEVER recommend this class.
Terrible teacher. Very broad on expectations of asssignments. On the midterm she wrote the answer key beside my answer. They both said the same thing. Had to argue with her about it! It is as if she didn't even read my answer at all.
Great as a person.. Horrible as a professor! Extremely hard to understand and doesn't provide notes for the class. The mid term was take home but it took me 12 hours and 11 pages! He had an opportunity to teach us all about indigenous ceremonies and culture , instead this class turned out to be a huge waste of time!
Terrible Prof! He talks so quietly and goes off on tangents all the time. I could never follow what he was trying to say or what it had to do with the chapters assigned. So far my grades have been good and fair, but I feel I have learned nothing. The midterm was crazy long and took me about 15 hours and 19 pages. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROF!
Christian is very nice, but a terrible prof! He made absolutely no sense and I could barely hear him. His midterm was take home and it was easy, but it took several hours. He would just sit at the front of the room and mumble. I would try to listen, but he would stop what he was talking about and talk about a completely different topic.
Not a good prof. Quiet talker and feel like he got off topic lots and mumbled. It was hard to understand him and take notes because he talked to fast and didn't repeat what he said most of the time. Not to happy because i did not learn anything.. He is a good person but i do not recommend him. Midterm was take home and was easy. Final was too much.
You know when you read those rate my profs and see people complaining about the prof but think you might as well try anyways? DON'T DO IT WITH HIM! Seriously the worst prof I've ever had.. Had a 90 going into the final but he made it so ridiculously long just to curve out the grade.. Finished with a 70!
Quiet.. forces you to read something and then tells you what you read was wrong. Watches a lot of videos, he is nice, but not a good teacher.
He says attendance is mandatory, but only takes it about half the time. Super easy marker, but difficult to understand, and never completes his thoughts. Nice guy, bad teacher. If you really want to learn the content I would say DONT TAKE IT, however if you just want to get the credit, its a good class to take.
Christian's lectures were very boring. He took so much time talking about things that we never finished the course material. Luckily all assignments and tests were online, so we were able to use our textbook on the exams. I would not have been able to pass that class if we had in class tests because I never learned anything in class.
I hope you have excellent hearing because it is almost impossible to hear anything he says (even if you sit in the front). He marks fair but you should be prepared to put in the effort, especially with the research paper. I learned nothing the entire time and showed up to class every day. I will never take a class of his again. Exams are take home.
Beginning of the year seemed fun, we had different speakers come in and watched documentaries. Close to midterms it was basically just him speaking. His lectures weren't organized, everyone was lost and no one knew what he was talking about. Textbook is mandatory but you could definitely be ok without. Share the $40 access key was many people
Very quiet, speaks with a microphone. I sat at the front so it was easy to hear, he is understanding and helpful if you ask. He gives out his personal cell number so you can reach him anytime. Assignments and essays did not take much effort to get a good grade. He marks mostly on concept and material.
Take the online class if you can!! He seems like a nice enough guy, but he talks so quietly you can barely hear him. His lectures are very unclear and he jumps from topic to topic. The midterm and final were take-home thank goodness! No need to spend money on the textbooks, all the answers are available through the internet.
This professor is a very hard marker and unclear of what he expects. It seems he will say one thing in class but a different thing when he marks your papers. He is also very quiet and hard to understand and his class is extremely boring.
DId not like him at all. He was a very tough marker, expected more from a year 1 student than a 4th year student it seemed. Very quiet, tends to get off track.
Very hard marker. Unclear of expectations. Dropped the course and will not take another class with him.
His microphone cuts out every third word so you better sit close. All we do is watch videos but he does not state the purpose. Mid terms are next week and I have no clue of what he plans on putting on it. Good luck to anyone planning on taking this course
The midterm and final were take home so very easy. I didn't read the textbook until the midterm and then just found the sections I needed and reworded them. One research paper on a topic of your choosing so just find something you're passionate about. He is extremely quiet so listen close, or just read the slides he posts online. Very nice.
I love this class and I love what I learned ON MY OWN, because it was very interesting... But this professor made the class absolutely awful. He is way too quiet during lectures and very unorganized. Goes off track and it's hard to understand him. Every assignment of his is poorly graded because if you miss one important fact you could lose 20%
Has a lot to say and is very passionate about the subject. There was technical issues often in the first 2 months with microphone. Students were very unprofessional often packing up long before class was over which made it hard for students who actually wanted to listen and learn. Pay attention , take notes and you will do fine.
Christian is very passionate about this subject and is a kind person. However, his teaching techniques are very unorganized. He is very quiet and does not put his passion into his teaching. He talks the whole hour and doesn't have very many interesting points. The subject matter is quite boring so you need to do some research on your own.
Good prof. Knowledgeable. I enjoyed his classes, coz I wanted to learn. Sit closer to the front coz voice projection is low. Make use of office hours for clarity. If you take his classes for granted don't be surprised at your grades. Take class notes and pay attention to his cues on potential exam questions. Gentle but firm. Do your assignments
As long as you show up for class and take good notes you will pass. The more you show up for class the more he will help you if you have questions, especially on the midterm and final. Hard to hear at times, but as long as his mic works it's fine.
Just an awful professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Do anything and everything you can do avoid this prof. He is a very quiet speaker, uses a mic but is still difficult to hear. He is also a rambler making it hard to focus on the topic at hand. Syllabus is a mess along with his URcourses page. ZERO organization. Get ready to do a lot of reading. Takes his sweet time grading.
Very quiet, uses a mic and you still cannot hear him. I sat in the front every class and it was almost impossible to understand. His lectures are very off topic and i don't feel as if i learned anything relevant to this class. He is a very nice person and tells you specific things that will be on midterms, but i wouldn't take another class with him.
Christian is a very quiet professor so make sure you sit near the front of the room.. as in the first three rows. He cares about what he teaches but you need to do your readings in order to understand the discussions that occur during class. The assignments he gives out are reasonable.
I had him for INDG 100. Impossible to take notes in class because all of his points are useless, very unorganised, you can never hear him (even with the mic) and almost always, his lectures jump from one thing to another. Only way of doing good is by being teachers pet and having the same opinion as him. Both sides of the story aren't welcomed.
First off, Christian is SUPER quiet, which makes it hard to take notes during his lectures and everything goes downhill from there. While he is very passionate about what he's teaching, he often goes on tangents and is quite unorganized. There is an online midterm and final exam, but they aren't as easy as they seem, he marks quite hard.
Christian is very difficult to hear but when uses microphone given is not too bad. This class only had two assignments, an article review and an 8 page research paper which topics are basically of your choice. Grades come back in decent timing. Usually stays in 50 minute class time. Is always there and on time. Midterm and final are take home!!!
Though he is very soft-spoken, Christian is an amazing teacher. He is passionate about what he is teaching and it shows in his lectures. Anyone who failed his class didn't pay attention. Show up and participate in discussions and you will do well. The midterm and final are take home but they do take quite awhile. Easily my favourite teacher so far.
Very passionate about what he teaches. Speaks very quiet and fast, so difficult at times to take notes. He is a very nice guy and will answer any questions you have. Likes to have class discussions. My only complaint is that he takes a long time to mark any assignments.
He was a very easy marker for the first half then go really hard. IS a very quiet speaker and is hard to pay attention to in lectures. Beware it will be boring.
He is very quiet, quite boring and biased. Exams were take home though and straight forward if you attended class. He is very knowledgeable on Indigenous subject matter too.
Christian is a very knowledgeable prof that truly cares about what he is teaching. However, Christian speaks VERY quietly (even with a mic) , so sit near the front. He only has a few assignments and they are warned at the beginning of the year and marked fairly. He has messy writing so it can be hard to take notes. Take home final & midterm- easy!
Very boring prof, but if you show up and take some notes you'll do very well as he marks easy. Lectures are dry and can be confusing as he jumps all over the place. Either read the text or go to class, you don't have to do both. EXAMS ARE TAKE HOME/ONLINE! Would take another class with him as easy to do well in class.
He was very hard to hear and his lectures were very confusing because he jumped around. Some of the instructions for assignments were confusing.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!! he is a very nice and decent guy, but he is a terrible teacher!!! He rants on and on and his lectures have to organization to them and then when students try to help each other follow where he is going he humiliates them in front of the whole class. The final exam easy had barely anything to do with what he talked about in class
Nice guy, but terrible prof. No organization to his "lectures," just him ranting and then showing you video clips with very little context. Assignment instructions are a confusing mess. He talks about having good grammar, but then gives you assignment sheets with spelling mistakes riddled throughout. Don't buy the textbook til midterm/final.
There are a lot of mixed reviews with this prof. Its true, you will have to read, but what did you expect in university? He gives take home exams, and if you take the time to do it properly, then you will receive a good grade. Also, his assignments are a good chance to bring up your grades. If you put in the effort, you will do great. Awesome prof!
Christian was an amazing knowledgable professor. He was so passionate about the topics but let you speak your mind as well. For most people INDG is mandatory, if you are able to take this class from Christian it will help you in the long run by understanding the history of Canada from a First Nations point of view.
He's genuinely a nice guy, if you ask him to re-read a paper or assignment, odds are he will come across a missed mark and give you more. His lectures can be super long and boring, and you don't really need to go to class to pass. Sometimes can make you feel guilty for being non indigenous. Would take him again though.
Very tough! Way too quiet!
Christian is a great prof, and really passionate about the subject matter. His style is very conversational. He'll give you information, and then ask your opinion. If you pay attention, do the reading, and actively participate in class discussions, you'll do well. Fair warning, he's very soft spoken. He wears a mic, but Still, sit near the front.
I came to Canada from another country and had little to no accurate knowledge of indigenous people and their ways of life. I can honestly say Christian has provided a varied and honest look into a world I knew almost nothing about. Totally enjoyed his lectures and always felt happy to ask questions. Brilliant prof!
He can be hard to understand at times and the students never really know where he is during a lecture or what he's exactly talking about, but he does know his stuff. Two papers, and the midterm & final are take home, so if you put the effort in to them then its a decent class.
Christian is a wonderful prof. I really enjoyed his class and he knew his stuff. Some things you should know are, there are lots of readings. You should also sit near the front of the class because even though he uses a mic he is still very hard to hear. (I sat in the 2nd row and still sometimes had some problems hearing him.) Great prof overall.
Christian is a nice guybut his lectures are quite dry and go off topic and seem to have no relevency. He is not a fair market at allwill take away marks with no explanation on why, other than why not. His assistant marks the 2 assignments so those were marked fairly, but his 2 take home tests are easybut he takes away marks if he doesnt agree.
Avoid taking this class with Christian if you can. He is a nice enough guy, but by far the worst educator Ive ever had. He has very few assignments and tests so they are each worth a large portion of our mark. The feedback he gives is completely pointless and he will give you a very poor grade simply for having a different opinion than him.
AVOID Worst prof ever. And I dont say this because I got a poor grade. I came out of the class with 71. Christian takes off marks on assignments without explaining why, and if you ask him he doesnt give you an answer. You can try your hardest on any assignment, but your mark will not reflect your good/hard work. His lectures are pointless. AVOID.
Meh. not the worst, not the best. he could be a little more inspirational. midterm and final were take home, so that's great. sit near the front o you can hear him, as he talks so quiet!!!
Here's the gist of it... I got an 85% in the class: didn't do the readings(except book), worked on other assignments during class, and didn't participate in the conversation. I don't recommend doing this for everyone, however, he does say "and this is very important" before stating something that will be on the final. Put up with him ;) Worth it!
I was in his class average mark but I wouldn't recommend his class. The lectures are very dry and he basically reads directly from the chapters. He's a tough marker and looks for very specific things in his finals and his marking is very conflicting.
This prof is mediocre. The lectures are dry, but I dont see how anyone could fail this class. Very simple and easy class. He takes attendance but I never show up and still get 90s.
Make sure to sit near the front because he talks really quietly, even with his mic on. He's a really tough grader and doesn't allow for a lot of wiggle room on assignments. Lectures are extremely boring and very long.
stay away from him worst prof ever
Worst prof I have ever had!! Lectures were all over the place and he read straight from the textbook even though he assigned the reading for homework. Couldnt understand because he talked to quite. Takes marks off for grammar when he actually just has a different opinion. I would suggest sucking up to him and not using your own opinion.
Super nice guy but also very tiresome. Three hour lectures seem to last a lifetime. Quickly fell behind the sylabus as he would get off topic easily. Very strict when it comes to grading and takes marks off for a lot of things. Content was interesting but class discussions went no where. Hard to understand/hear even though he uses a mic.
Christian is a really nice guy. There is a fair amount of reading, but I didn't read much and got a good grade. He is a pretty tough marker, but not horrible. He talks quite quiet so be sure to sit near the front. I would take a class with him again. :)
Christian is a really nice guy but his lectures are so boring. Hes also the hardest marker Ive had. He takes off so many marks but leaves little feedback about what you did wrong. The midterm and final is take home so thats nice but I wouldnt take another class with him.
I was very anxious to take up this class and surprisingly, he made it very easy. He is also very understanding and easy to approach if you have any problem regarding this subject, he will help you through it.
Thompson May have a dull voice at times, but his passion for the subject is so amazing. Will answer questions on assignments, answers emails promptly. Doesnt have many assignments so you have lots of time to put in the work.
Christian is a beyond caring professor and is passionate about what he teaches. Yes, his lectures are quite boring but he taught me a lot of critical information that I will forever carry with me.
Overwhelming class but the professor was amazing. but the papers and assignments.
I loved Christian. Really easy class. He is super quiet, and has a really soft voice. Overall, a super sweet and funny guy. Fairly easy marker. Take his classes!
A super chill professor! He is super interested in the content he is teaching, and he remembers those who participate. There are few major assignments, and there is plenty of time to ask questions and complete them. Weekly discussion posts and responses for a discussion mark were super easy and did not take up much time. Overall, very easy class!
He is a good teacher but beats around the bush on questions. He is a tough marker and gives little direction on assignments. His outline for assignments are not given enough information on what he expects or how to do them. He also allows some classmates to be the middle of class for too long, gets caught behind with his chapters.
Not a good experience at all. He gives no direction for assignments, lectures are all over the place and it is hard to understand what he is saying, he is a really tough grader and will not give you an explanation as to why he gives you the grade he does. If you ask for help you will not receive it. I debated dropping out halfway through semester.
Worst professor i have ever seen. For first time i m getting 50% marks. His explanation for cutting marks are not relevant and satisfying. If u wanna fail than only take hus class.
I loved having him as my prof, he was fair and shows passion for his classes. I would absolutely take his class again. He answered questions and gave time for people to express their opinions in class. I personally didn't do most of the readings or watch most of the videos. I wasn't a huge fan of the marker, they marked pretty hard.
Chris is amazing and an very caring teacher. This class is a great place to start your anti racism journey! But a note for my Fellow Natives: Maybe skip this class unless you can handle being an educator as well. Many non native folks in class are JUST starting their journey to unlearn racism (and some are still quite racist or ignorant).
Anyone who uses the term "anti racism journey" is someone I dont want to be lectured by
Thompson is very racist towards white people. A lot of his lectures were dominated by anti-white rhetoric. Can't handle criticism of his racism. He is kind enough, but is very opinionated and is not clear on why you're wrong (if you are) and how to improve. Don't ruin an otherwise great class with this bad prof.
Professor Thompson was the greatest prof I have ever had! He was so caring and so knowledgeable about the history of Indigenous peoples in this country. I was a visiting student only here at University of Regina for one term but this was the greatest academic experience I've had. HIGHLY recommend!
Readings, videos, etc. were to be done on our own time & then we discussed as a class during the lecture. He doesn't provide slides, so it's on you to take notes; that made the exams interesting bc you couldn't really prep in a normal way. Lectures can be very long and boring. The class isn't that difficult, just have to put time in to finish work
Great prof to have! Was nervous after reading other reviews, but I feel as though most reviews are unfair. If you want to succeed in this class, it is important to attend lectures and take notes, as he goes into detail about many things. He has his own views, but he treats everyone equally, is approachable, and very understanding. Would recommend!
I think a lot of these reviews are harsh bc he was fine and the class was okay. Nice overall and tried to help us where he could. Lectures could be boring at times being 3 hours over zoom. Do the assigned work and you'll be fine; also participate in class bc he loves that. Exams were kind of random but were at least open book
Take notes and show up to class and you will do just fine. The tests are a little bit tricky, but they are open book. If you showed up to class you will not have a problem on the tests. The assignments were very easy if you knew the material as well. I am not sure why he has such bad reviews, I would take his class again!
3 hour classes with 0 breaks. It is hard to focus as he barely engages. Grades papers very tough!!
This professor is awesome
I do not recommend this class. 1. Far too many textbooks, readings, and films assigned. 2. Classes are spent reading his notes, which one could do at home. They aren't lectures. 3. Marks very hard on papers. Pros: Exams are open-book, which is nice. A mostly friendly dude unless you walk in late or ask a question he deems a waste of class time.
This professor is fine, not good or bad. His class is fairly easy if you just show up, since all tests are open book, including the final. The lectures are fairly boring because he just reads from his notes and isn't very engaging, but definitely not terrible. Lots of readings and videos but you can get by fine just skimming.
