Lecture is BORING, but she puts all her notes online and offers extra credit!! Has semi-pop quizzes to make sure you go to class, but usually you can ask around about them.
Lecture is MAD BORING, quizes are hard due to the fact she asks 5 questions on 3 lectures worth of notes, and doesnt give you a clue as to whats gonna be on it. The good thing is the reviews for test have everything thats gonna be on the test.
I fell asleep in every lecture, but as long as you study the notes you'll do fine. Her tests are kinda long but basicly easy questions as long as you've read over the notes, and maybe gone over the textbook a little. the extra credit is easy too.
Great teacher. Interesting classes. Interesting subject. yes, her voice does put you to sleep, but have a cup of joe and you'll be fine. easy tests. fair evaluations!!!!
Can be boring, but its important you pay attention to any lecture and video. The book is useless. I got an A and never opened it. Gives lots of extra credit. Tests based on lectures and notes. If you can get ahold of her old tests, STUDY THEM! *wink wink*
kinda boring.. eating helps =P its worth paying attn to the lectures b/c her quizzes/tests are pretty ok if you know ur stuff. don't bother w/ the book, its long, boring, & useless. its good to have for reference tho.
shes very boring
Very boring class with way to many examples of the same thing to hold my attension. She really tries but teaching geology is a loosing battle either way.
tests are very difficult all short answer questions. TA is very meiculous for EXACT definitions.
I took this class as a **** gpa booster cuz my friends told me it was easy however i got a C+ cuz she requires you to know the most minute details. I'm getting a 3.6 this semester with this class factored in, just to prove to you how well i do in school, and the grade i recieved. dont take it.
All the notes are on powerpoint slides consisiting of 30 slides each (No Joke). Many of these slides are completly not needed. <Please keep in mind this is a 100 level class...> The tests and quizes are short answer with maybe 5 mutiple choice questions. The only bonus is she gives extra credit lectures to attened and can help with a grade boost.
This class is pretty easy. Tests and quizzes can be a little bit too specific but she posts a review sheet online of exactly what will be on the tests.
Tests are pretty easy, you do not have to go to class to do well in it. She posts notes and review sheets and gives extra credit.

EXTREMELY boring, no need to go to lectures, just print the powepoints on blackboard... just if youre not going to go, be sure u know when the quizzes and tests are and make sure to show up those days, and youre set to ace it
the topics are interesting, but she gives so many power points in one class about the same thing over and over so it gets boring. The tests are hard and the quizes are hard as well didnt do as well as i would have liked in this class all i can say is that its better then taking bio or chem to fill your science dec
She's really nice and was able to explain the material quite nicely. lenient grader too.
Who knows, she was never their! When she was, she was boring. Overkill on all subject matter. It all depends on the TA you have. If you get a good TA you should do well, if your TA is big headed and not to helpful good luck. She will curve the class only she would not be able to tell you what the curve will be because she does not know how she will
dont bother going to class unless theres a test/quiz/paper due. lectures are usually half new material and half of the last lecture. quizes and tests are very easy to study for a do well on. highly recommend taking this class.
Her lectures are quite long and repetitive. Interesting subjects become boring. Quizzes are easy, but tests are kinda hard. However, She's lenient with the grading. To do well, study the powerpoints and whatever's on the review sheet. Reading the text is optional, but it may help you.
Her class is very easy but very boring. Makes you fall asleep. Don't bother going to class unless there is an exam or quiz. Her test are all out of the powerpoint presentation. Gives a lot of extra too.
Professor Stidham posts powerpoints of all her lectures, so I suggest that you do not go to class as well unless there is a test or quiz. She posts review sheets online before both tests and quizzes and offers extra credit opportunities. the material gets boring but it's a very easy class to do well in.
She was sort of interesting when I actually went to the class. She gave too much material to study on the review sheet that didn't even appear on the test. BIG suggestion... pay attention in class and always have her slides on hand.
This is the easiest class i have evr taken... the only thing is she talks a bit tooo much and makes an interesting topic seem so boring. i would say don't go to class, but during her lectures she likes to slip in little details which she puts in her exams that only if you go to class and was actually awake would know. So she gets tricky sometimes..
Great teacher, very nice, easy to understand and clear. Lectures are long and can be boring, but will pay off when you take the tests. Easy DEC
Awesome class. Easy enough. Great help.
it could be easy to some people....but u'll have to be very very detailed in her exams.....be specific......5 questions on 3 chapters......
DONT GO TO CLASS...such a waste of time! just bring the powerpoints and study them REALLY WELL...it's frustrating b/c she gives you alot to study and only puts half on the exam...but if you study and go to extra credits you'll do good! says she curves alot but doesn't so BE CAREFUL!
The TA taught the majority of this lab course, but when she was there she was a decent lecturer. She does make the material more boring than it needs to be. Her tests are VERY detailed- tidbits that just don;t seem very important are on the tests! I felt that much of the lab lectures did not really teach enough to complete the lab.
The professor is nice but suffers from verbal diarhea! Dont bother buying the textbook nor reading it. Go over the review sheets posted on blackboard by going over powerpoint slides to study for exams. Many chances for extra credit and bonus points. Overall easy class but bit boring.
Very easy. Boring lectures, but you always know what to expect on quizzes and exams. I would recommend this class to anyone who is looking for an easy A.
easy class, dont have to go to class, just read the tips, lots of extra credit. really easy :) boring, i never stay awake for any class before but she is a really nice prof.
Very easy class. Not necessary to go to class, but she doesn't post quiz dates on Blackboard, so make sure you know someone in the class who goes. Tests and quizzes are easy if you pay attention and the info comes directly from the review sheets. Even though she rambles, she sometimes uses the info as bonus questions on exams so pay attention
Easy A. Don't buy the textbook. Study the powerpoints and possibly attend the class. Attendance is not mandatory but you can miss quizzes. Overall, the material is pretty simple and not challenging. She talks a lot but it is tolerable. I think this class fills a DEC easily.
This class is an easy A. Quizzes are not as hard as other people are saying. Yes, they are short-answer quizzes but they are straight forward. Ace the quizzes and you'll ace the exams. Do well on the exams and you don't have to take the final. Great class.
The quizzes are easy but the tests are hard because she wants to know exact dates and magnitudes and other USELESS information that you dont need to know. I didnt go to class or study until the night before and got an A-. She is really boring and in my opinion her tests are hard, not her quizzes
Easy A cannot beat it, if you go to the optional lectures it is the easiest A you can ever get, also the extra credit is a gift i finished with over a 100 average
Easy, easy class. I only went a few times, for quizzes and tests. The information is on the slides she posts online and in the textbook. I missed a quiz and still finished with an A-. You're just not trying if you don't do well with her.
I found class very interesting and teacher was NOT boring like other posters have said. If you go to class everyday and do extra credit you will get an A. Its as simple as that. Textbook is not necessary but some questions are from text only, not from lectures. And text reading is easy and interesting. Teacher is also helpful and hot too!
really nice proffesor- this class is an easy A as long as u read all the lecture notes. the prof also gives many opportunities for extra credit- i would def recommend her
The only that I did not like about her exams is the format. Be prepared to have Multiple Choice, True/False and Short Answer questions on the exams. I overlooked this but there are ALOT of extra credit opportunities and I would suggest doing all of them. Try to do your best in the midterms (drops the lowest one) and avoid taking the OPTIONAL FINAL.
In lecture she tends to repeat herself a lot which starts to get boring, but it drills the information in your head I guess. LOADS of extra credit opportunities, next to impossible to not get an A if you try at all.
This class was very boring. She is very articulate; I admire her ability to seemingly memorize the lecture. She almost never stumbles on a word, never says "uhhhm." Quite robotic. As for the course, it's very, very dry. Thought it would be interesting but it sucked. Didn't own the text, went to class maybe thrice, still got an A. Would reccomend.
class is really boring. exams arent exactly that easy. it is fair i guess.
The material is boring yes, but hey, thats Geology for you. Prof. Stidham is very articulate and knows the material like the back of her hand. Her notes are crystal clear and her exams come directly from the slides. The amount of Extra Credit is huge, and she doesnt much care for attendance. However, I would suggest not missing class. Stuffs hard.
Boring class, since I had to take it for a DEC, but her stories were cool and it made me wanna see Deep Impact.
I took this class for a DEC and thought it would be pretty interesting. the class is not as easy as it sounds, but the professor is really nice and easy to talk to during office hours. She tries to help you out any way she can and there's a million extra credit things you can do. The slides are interesting and she explains everything perfectly. I d
TAKE HER CLASS!! awesome teacher. pretty interesting for the topic. and gives a million chances for extra credit. doesnt really care about attendance but there are pop quizzes so its helpful if your there and know what your talking about
Take this class if you want an easy A. semi interesting/gives VERY clear review sheet for tests/never used the text book. shes a speeeeed talker, rambles on about useless info. shes a good teacher though and cute woman!
Took the class for summer session, pretty tough stuff but everything is clear in the slides and tests are mult. choice/true/false and short answer, and pretty tough if you don't study as much as you should! she is sooo sweet and gives extra credit, very clear and makes the class interesting. Highly recommend her, I love her! I somehow got an A :)
very very easy, you just need to memorize the basic information outlined on the review sheet. The problem lies with the lectures, there is too much extraneous information and she goes on tangents about irrelevent things and boring anecdotes. The material could be covered in the half the time.
Very easy class. Lectures contain lots of extra information that isn't on the test. No attendance so it's easy to become lazy and not go, but the tests are extremely easy if you do go. Textbook not required but it helps. Only makeup for test is optional final and only makeup for quiz is extra credit. Good prof but goes on too many tangents.
Do not bother buying the textbook. It is a waste of money and all the exam questions come from the slides, def NOT an easy A. IDK what everyone is talking about. It might be easy if you like geology, but I found it to be EXTREMELY boring and she asks very specific questions on the exam. Quizzes are easy and you can do a limit of 2 ex credit.
her class is easy and she gives out a lot of extra credits. she's cool.I've gotten 100/100 for a few times
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Everything that you will be tested/quizzed on is from the lecture powerpoints (which she also makes available online). Offers plenty of extra credit for those that need it and will drop the lowest test grade. A lot of students did not go to her lectures but she did a good job of making a rather boring subject interesting.
NO TEXTBOOK. ALL TESTS OFF POWERPOINTS. GIVES REVIEW SHEETS WHICH YOU FILL OUT FOR TESTS. 5 QUIZZES WHICH ARE INCREDIBLY EASY AND SHE GIVES YOU A HEADS UP FOR... TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!! SO EASY!
This class is beyond easy, seriously. If you fail this class, you should not belong in college. She gives so much extra credit.
im taking the geo lab and shes never there. The TA teaches the lab. I dont really kno why this lab even has her name. The TA is the best though.
the lab material doesn't correspond to the things we learn in lab and the questions on her tests and quizes are incredibly hard. she is nice but you need to read the textbook go to the TA'office hours and study your butt off for this class. it is moderatly calculus and linear alegbra related. i hated this class and i didnt do well.
Good if your a geo major... If your in 102 she makes the labs, she doesn't have to see them through (thats what a lab TA is for).
Cool class, really interesting material (if you're a geo major). Not horribly difficult if you pay attention in class. Exam questions come straight from lecture material. Labs are time consuming but its useful information to learn.
Class is HORRIBLE! She spends 25 minutes on one slide talking about things that don't even relate to the material. Ridiculous amount of material to remember for exams and she is just about the most boring woman I have ever encountered! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
It's hard to stay awake in this class. Pretty dull. If you attend the class, take notes, and study the slides, you should get an A. However if you are not at all interested in this class I don't recommend it.
the class is easy. everything on the test comes off the slides pratically. theres no textbook needed. she recommends buying certain chapters but thats not really needed. i did fine without them (got a A in class) however... the class is boring. she has a monotonic voice. its hard to stay awake so i recommend bringing ur laptop...
Her Environmental Geo class was god-awful. Do Not Take! I went in optimistic; by the end of the semester, when i actually showed up I played games all lecture. Its a really easy class but SOOO boring and Prof Stidham ruined it for me. Everything was oversimplified, alot of stuff was pulled out her butt and she doesn't answer her email. ever.
She seems to be really nice, her lectures are really boring. She spends a lot of time explaining random facts, but she is pretty direct on what she wants on her tests and assignments. I thought it was an easy going class.
If you must take her final to replace a bad grade, YOU MUST GO TO THE REVIEW SESSION. The final is basically your last 3 tests. Bring a laptop to type down all the test questions and answers for the last 3 tests and that's basically 90% of the final.
This Class was the low point of my week. Incredibly boring and you're required to remember a ridiculous amount of work for her FOUR tests PLUS an optional final. Just Terrible...I feel sorry for the people who disregard the comments and enroll in her class anyway. You're making a HUGE mistake if you do.
Absolutely awful, she cannot grade a scantron exam, it has taken 3 weeks.Extremely boring class for nonmajors, not worth going to class
This class is ridiculously boring. People leave 15 minutes into her lecture because she just explains one slide for 20 minutes (that's not an exaggeration). I hated going to every class but if you're willing to spend time teaching yourself the material, go for it.
Class is easy and sometimes interesting, but AVOID taking with her. She spends 20 minutes on one slide and gives no warn ing about tests or quizzes. Attendance and the textbook are not mandatory though.
lectures were very interesting. Class and tests were very easy. She does have the habit of spending a lot of time on each slide but she does thoroughly explain everything. Easy class definitely worth taking for a DEC
Textbook was useless, because all tests were taken from the PowerPoint lectures. Attendance was never taken, and PowerPoint lectures were posted online, which made this an easy class to skip. Basically coasted through this class and got a B+. Super easy, recommend it if you need the DEC.
So to clear things up from past ratings: The textbook is no longer not mandatory. She assigns HW form her EXPENSIVE online book. I found the book to be too expensive and didn't buy it and therefore lost points. Other than that, this class is VERY easy (also very boring). 3 Midterms, Quizzes & HW Assignments and an optional final.
It's funny how many people say this class was boring! I love it. Yes, she spends 20mins a slide, but it's all fascinating! I thought it was going to be a boring class, but I ended up loving it and looking forward to it every day. Grading is easy, buy text if you want hw credit (20%?).
No homework, no textbook, no quizzes. She gives 5 tests throughout the semester, drops the lowest grade, and tests 4 and 5 are take home. Her lectures are very long, dull and she tends to talk about things that don't matter. Tests are 30 questions or so but they are very tough questions. Must really study to pass(even if you know the subject well.)
Super easy class, if you pay attention in class and actually show up. Not many people show up, but she gives the ppl who do extra credit. You also need to buy the textbook to do her hw assignments, which takes 30 mins and are very easy. I never read the textbook and just reviewed the slides. I suggest doing the review sheet before each exam.
just started taking this class, and i have never been so annoyed. worse than bio 203. emailed her for help, no response. showed up taking the exam expecting multiple choice but nope, short answers, fill in the blanks, matching that requires you to know the characteristics of all rock names. she is a nice person, but i will see.
there arent much review about the class geo 102 for her but i would not suggest this class. idk how different it is, but from the reviews, geo 101 sounds easier. Her review sheets is basically everything in the slides. & her tests are rough. why are there even short answers?
Her exam is too hard!!! All the other professor are considerate that they are making their exams all multiple choice questions. However, she only give out a few multiple choice questions, with all the rest fill in the blank and short answer. For her fill in the blank, there is no word bank, so you have absolutely no idea what she is looking for.
the worst class ever. her exams are tough. pretty much got to memorize everything on the lecture slides by heart because there is no word bank if you forget the definition of a word. Also requires you to memorize every specific number given in a data.
Please don't take GEO 102 with her if you want a good GPA. Her tests are extremely hard for an introductory class and she is not very helpful. I regret taking this class so much, and you will too if you take it. It was all too late to realize how much I hated this class by the end of the semester.
Let me clarify "skip class you wont pass" because this only applies if you don't read the textbook. She's a great teacher, very nice, and tests are pretty honest. Pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
You have to hand in a paper in order to pass. She's so sweet and my favorite professor at Stony Brook. No attendance sheet, but she knows who's there and who's not and who shows up late. Textbook optional but helpful if you miss a lecture, powerpoints mainly pictures and graphs. MUST TAKE NOTES TO PASS. Easy tests, optional final.
Long and boring lectures. Follow the review guide and throw in some effort and you will get an A. Lectures are not mandatory. you can just read those puts she posts on BB. you don't need to read the textbook actually. But you have some exercise to hand in online through it.
Going straight into a level 300 geo class i was worried for how grading would work. No need. Homework was one research paper and a mini presentation. You could either buy the textbook or pay attention in lecture, and honestly everything she tested you on she taught in class or it was on her powerpoints. Even gave an optional final exam.
Solid class. A lot of reading is required, and not the easiest, but the extra credit is a nice boost. The lecture materials and textbook are outstanding.
She's alright I guess. Lectures are boring, could probably get away with skipping since she posts all the slides and a review sheet a week before the test. Grade based only off of 3 exams (which are pretty fair) plus an optional final. BUT, the optional replaces your lowest grade regardless. If you do worse on the optional, you get that grade.
As of spring 2017, huge portions of tests are fill-ins. She looked for extremely specific answers and to my knowledge, didn't really curve anything. As a lecturer she is articulate and passionate but has a tendency to ramble. Lectures are packed with anecdotes and tangents that when test time rolls around, you're left wondering what to study. No TA
Great lecturer but rambles on about things that wont be on the test. Usually dont get through all the slides she uploads. 3 non-cumulative midterms and optional cumulative final that will replace the lowest midterm grade but if you take the final and get lower than your lowest midterm grade, you get that final grade. Review guides are helpful.
I had nothing to complain about with Dr. Stidham this semester. She gives out a ton of extra credit (a few points on tests and then for writing assignments) which offsets the *slight* occasional difficulty of a few test questions, and test questions are always related to slides and fair. She's also kind, caring, approachable, and a good lecturer.
Very smart woman and dont mind class. Only criticism is that sometimes she lectures too long about things that arent on the test or just generally goes too slow. Especially with the easy concepts.
This course is very easy. If you keep going to lectures and recitations, and do homework, it's an easy A. Even though Professor Stidham is not perfect, she is trying to be better and better, and she's good enough.
Stidham is a really kind Professor. Lectures are interesting for the most part, but she can go on tangents and it can be unclear what will be tested. Tests are alright. Some easy questions, some tougher ones. Definitely need to review notes somewhat regularly as there are only 3 tests with lots of material.
She technically isn't a math professor which you can tell as she has a hard time explaining the material or confuses herself in the process. She really tries for you to understand the material and will go over it if necessary. If its been awhile since you've been in a math class i'd reconsider her.
If you want to do well in her class, you will have to see her outside of the class and attend office hours. She is very accessible outside of class and will be glad to help. The tests are hard but she doesn't design them so cant really blame her for that. Review your notes, do plenty of practice problems and attend lecture.
Professor Stidham is such a caring person, she has a calm vibe but is always ready to help you
Ok, so if you have never seen any of the material before, find another professor, but if you have seen some of it before, she's the professor for you. super chill, and very easy to talk to. I've never had a difficult time getting in contact with her. If you have a question, her answers are very detailed so you should understand the topics better.
This class was a level 100 class and yet it was the hardest class I have for fall semester.
Professor is nice and chill but for a 100 level course she makes it way too hard. Lectures are boring and the slides aren't really helpful in tests. Definitely makes you work for it, which is not something you want out of a 100 level class but that's just my opinion. No curve
1 Slide of up to 60 pages on 1 subject, doesn't know how to condense information for us to remember. she doesn't give quizzes for us to test our knowledge, she just gives midterms and a final. I don't recommend it; she talks too much about irrelevant information, it'll bore you to death.
Attend lectures. Prof Stidham made it clear from the beginning that tests questions will test your knowledge to apply the material and test the facts she verbally gives during lectures. Attending lectures, taking notes, and putting in the little bit of work will ensure your success in the class. The material isn't hard, just have to stay focused.
OK, everyone in my class had a bone to pick with this professor for being a strict grader and making tests such a large portion of your grade (20% each), but the key to acing this course is simple: REWATCH THE LECTURES. The professor records every single one, and taking additional notes when rewatching them will earn you that A, trust me!
Everyone is complaining about how her class is very hard, but if you watch the lectures and take good notes, the tests are not bad. I ended with over 100 average since each test has about 10% extra credit questions.
Professor Stidham is a very nice person but cannot teach at all. She often confuses herself while trying to explain material and seems to have no lesson plan. She also makes the material more confusing then it has to be and shows ways that are more complicated. Do not recommend her.
Professor Stidham was very nice, and if you study the lecture slides hard, you will get a good grade. However, the test questions are very specific and mainly fill in the blank and short answer, so the class isn't an easy A. Extra credit is offered, but it won't help too much if you don't do well on the tests
Prof Stidham wasn't bad at all but I have very mixed thoughts on her. For one her questions aren't very open, some can be a 3 sentence response others will be a whole essay. She never gave feedback, I got all 90s but one 60 on one quiz. She grades everything last minute. Awful mic on her slides and rambles a lot. However easy class for the summer!
Did not explain anything in class of how to do the math and mostly went over basic 5th grade level math. Spent a whole class on single and double number mutiplication and division. Wrote 5+7 on the board and called on me for the answer after I said 12 she then explained I need to break it down to 5+5+2 or count on my fingers.
She is such a sweet lady however that doesn't mean she can teach. I took MAT 123 with her which was a course I had already taken in high school so I thought it would be an easy pass. The way she described things in lecture was extremely confusing and disorganized. However, I also had her for MAT 119 and she taught better. Better in small class.
Ngl I thought I had pre calc in the bag but as soon as I realized that in her lectures she rambles off too often I just skipped class. I will say my grade does reflect that but I'd review her slides and watch yt but I don't think pre calc is for her. Her lectures the first 2-3 weeks of the sem were good but decreased in quality after.
She's a good calm professor. Majority of your grade is determined by the tests. Extra credit does help in her class. In her lectures, she sometimes rambles about unnecessary stuff. However, keep an eye out for some specific stuff she says because it can be extra credit. She is always available in her office. Not hard to do well, just study tbh.
This class is basically useless, it's just like recitation expect you don't learn how to do the problems. She doesn't even know how to do the problems most of the time. She goes over the most basic problems we learned in basically middle school. s also threatened to take our phones away like we are in middle school.
She, herself, did not understand some of the material she was teaching. There was no syllabus so there's no way to know HER requirements for this course. Course was just a repeat of a math recitation class and did not teach the information I thought I would get from a literally course called Foundations Of Preclac. DOES NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS.
Very test heavy if you don't attend lecture be sure to not do well. If you only go off the slides you'll still be short on knowledge that you'll be tested on!
Stidham goes on a lot of tangents, it's hard to know what'll be on tests. She's helpful in her office hours, but forget emailing her, she won't respond. Study frequently, all of her grading is based on tests.
The content of the class itself is easy to understand. If you aren't great at paying attention for long periods of time then this professor may not be for you. She posts the slides but sometimes they're not enough to ace the exams. She puts very specific questions in the tests that she only talks about in her lectures. Lectures are not recorded!
Professor Stidham's class can be challenging, but with preparation it's doable. The tests are tough, so rewatching lectures and using tools like unstuckstudy for study prep are key. She sometimes rambles, but stay engaged and you can earn a solid grade.
Class can be kind of boring but that isn't her fault. She is nice, but gets extremely side tracked during lectures and goes off on tangents that aren't at all related to what we're talking about. She moves through slides at record speed and barely gives you time to write everything down. I recommend recording lectures to listen back to them
2nd midterm she put content that wasnt in the notes. every 1 failed. then she got upset when the class avg wasnt what she hoped. obv its not going to be what you hoped for if you put new stuff. for the remaining lectures after 2nd midterm, they were all 70-80 pages each. its not possible to go thru all that just to make flashcards. take sm1 else
She talks too much so the class isn't engaged at all during the lectures, the study guides aren't that helpful since all they have are the topics that may or may not be on the test. if your good at geology then she's great for you, but if you aren't then i don't recommend her. I struggled retaining information for this course.
Yeah just don't take her for math unless you want to fail ngl.
