She is a very nice teacher, and is very funny. She makes her lectures interesting and makes a lot of jokes. However, her tests are difficult and very specific. There are two tests, two essays, and a final. She is willing to work with you to get a good grade on the essays
She is fun and entertaining during class! She is willing to help you out with paper assignments before you turn them in. Tests are specific, memorize all class information. Overall, enjoyed the class and was not terribly time consuming/hard! Recommend!
She's knows her stuff and makes it relatable. Really witty sense of humor. Tests are challenging, but she's more than willing to help you in office hours and after class.
Good teacher. I learned a lot. If you try, you can do well. Not an easy class because of the amount of material crammed into one semester. Very time consuming. She is very willing to help.
Very good teacher. The class is difficult because there is so much information crammed into one semester. She will help you if you ask. Pay attention and ask questions in class. I learned well from her and would recommend the class.
Great professor! The course was challenging in that it is highly advanced material, but she made the class enjoyable. Fair grader and willing to help in all ways possible. If you want minimal work, this is not the class. However, you learn useful research techniques and Christin taught the class wonderfully.
Christin is an extremely helpful and nice teacher. She made sure that all students understood the material and was always available to meet outside of class. Attendance was only taken on certain days and these days were noted in the syllabus. This class was a lot of work, but she made it very manageable.
I wouldn't take another class with her. She gets off track a lot during lectures, and doesn't always keep her word. Eg. saying we'll get grades back in a few days and they aren't posted for 2 weeks. She takes a long time to email you back, or doesn't bother responding at all. Tests were hard, hours and hours of reading. Don't recommend it.
Dr. Huggins is really one of the best professors I have had in college. Although her class is not a piece of cake, she is very clear about how she grades and what she wants from your assignments. Being able to work as a team is a huge part of this class, so make sure you pick your group members well. I would definitely recommend her.
Her lectures were always entertaining. Her class was one I looked forward to every week! Attendance is necessary because we do small workbook pages almost every day. There was one paper and one group project. The tests are pretty hard; it's more application of what you know versus just reciting terms. But overall, it was a great class!
The team tasks are brutal, 7-8 hrs of outside class time. She is a very harsh grader. The rubrics and guidelines for assignments are extremely unclear. Not rewarded at all for attendance but taken away points for not being in class on select days. Midterm is extremely difficult.. she had to curve it 17 points. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! WORST COMM TEACHER
I WOULD NEVER SUGGEST ANYONE TO TAKE DR. HUGGINS. Her expectations are entirely to high for undergraduate work. The semester long group project is brutal, especially when she grades so harshly. Don't expect to get an A in this class with her. She prides herself on being a tough grader.. even on homework which should be a grade booster. STAY AWAY!
no extra credit offered, really nice, but hard grader. wouldnt suggest you take her. I studied hard for the 3 tests and still did not do as well i was wanted to on tests. the paper and group project is worth so much of your grade and she graded them so specifically and harshly. TO SUM IT UP, if you want an A dont take her lol
do not take her
The class is based off of one group project, so be smart and choose wisely and you'll do well. Scope out your members beforehand. Dr. Huggins is awesome and so helpful JUST ASK and put in the effort. Yes this is a tough class so be willing to do the work and you'll be ok. Tests were straightforward.
Dr. Huggins makes what should be an easy class far too difficult. She is a VERY picky grader. Her exams are very specific and getting an A is incredibly difficult. She's not the worst option but she's certainly not the best.
I enjoyed her lectures, as she was entertaining, the material was interesting, and could be applied to real life. However, the tests are not so easy. For many of the questions, there could have been multiple answer choices that would fit but only one she felt was the best answer so these could be confusing. She is also a tough grader on the essays.
This is supposed to be a really easy class, but for whatever reason I just couldn't get it. She's an entertaining professor, but just be wary if you're like me and think it will be easy, you have to work more than just doing the study guide and that's where I went wrong. There are only a few grades so work hard from the beginning.
I actually really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. Her lectures are very interesting and she keeps you engaged. Attend class because you do work book assignments for points that can only be done in class. You have one paper, which was graded really harshly but everything else was graded pretty easy.
She is very friendly and funny and it's clear she actually cares about her students. My one complaint is that she is very tough with her grading. I studied for all of the tests and got C's. A lot of the answers on the tests could be debated based on your opinion. Unfortunately hers is the opinion that grades.
Extremely difficult class to get an A. Show up everyday or say goodbye to anything above a B. Nice and accommodating teacher, but very strict on the one paper that she gives out. I studied extremely hard and long hours into the night, but only managed to obtain a B+ in her class.
Energetic, fun professor. Tests are easy. But, she grades very harshly for the essay and presentation. She takes off points for everything. Attendance is important because there are no online notes + there are participation assignments that you receive a grade for. Material was interesting but she's a tough grader. Take someone else if you can.
Makes you work, but she's hilarious and helps along every step of the way
Professor Huggins is really funny which makes her lectures interesting. The tests can be a little tricky--just make sure that you study examples for all of the concepts. Also there are in-class assignments on random days and if you're absent, even if it's excused, you will get a 0!
Dr. Huggins in a pretty fun teacher. She will grade a little harder than I find necessary but she is a solid choice non the less. Go to class though. Book is not really needed. 3 tests. 1 project. 1 paper.
Dr. Huggins is a once in a lifetime type of teacher. She is real, relatable, hilarious, and hardworking. I came into her class wanting to skate by, and by the end, I knew I couldn't and I didn't even want to. She will bring the best out of her students and to whatever it takes to make them succeed. Take Huggins - she's AMAZING!
Dr. Huggin's is a pretty cool and funny teacher during lecture but the amount of information she wants you to know for the test is nearly impossible. The test are not cumulative so it is definitely a memorize (or attempt to) and then forget type of class. There is also an essay and a group project but both are simple and seemed to be graded easily
Dr. Huggins class is probably my favorite class I have ever taken. It is one of those classes I enjoy learning about, and the examples we used were always interesting and involving. Her class has 1 group project that you present in a breakout class, a research paper that they grade very harshly, and tests that require A LOT of memorization.
One of my absolute favorite professors. She is very high energy and always tries to keep class interesting. Tests are all about memorization. Class is not mandatory but you earn participation point for showing up (honestly you will want to come to class).Wish I had a chance to take another class with her!
Dr. Huggins wants you to do well. She truly strives to make sure her students are learning the material. Tests can be a little tricky, so you actually have to study.
Dr. Huggins was a great lecturer and her class was interesting but her test were insane. I am talking like study guides that look like books. Any small detail she says in class or mentioned in the textbook is fair game for exam. Problem was that she did not follow the textbook exactly so it just resulted in a TON of information to memorize.
Dr. Huggins is an amazing professor. I took her for interpersonal communication, and it is honestly my favorite class I've taken at UGA because of her. She is so understanding and cares a lot about her students. The tests can be tricky, but they are very manageable as long as you study and come to class regularly. Take her!! You won't regret it!
Her class would have been super easy A if it wasnt for her grading. Shes has a really good, fun personality in class but when it comes to grading its as if shes a different person and has no regards or compassion for student success. She makes the class harder than it needs to be. I would absolutely not recommend anyone to take her class!
Tests are very challenging and are nearly 100% scenario based, which are not always covered well during lectures. There are no curves for the tests either. Participation matters in breakout, but there are very few chances to participate in a class of 30 people. Toughest graders I've ever had on group project and paper. Would NOT take again.
Dr. Huggins keeps the large lectures interesting but got off topic very easily. Test are strictly based on scenarios and WAY harder than necessary. Attendance is only mandatory for break-out, but in large lecture she'd give assignments that would be due at the beginning of break-outs, making it hard to skip and maintain a good grade in the class.
Dr. Huggins is a funny and nice person, and she taught well too, but the grading is ridiculously hard for an intro class. If you miss even one workbook assignment, you cannot turn it in late. There is a participation grade so you do have to participate in your breakout sections. overall though I had a lot of fun in this class!
She makes it much much harder than this class needs to be. Tests are honestly a little ridiculous and not many people score 80+ but she doesn't curve anyway
Professor Huggins is laid back and enjoyable in lectures. Lectures are almost directly from the textbook but some specific info on tests is said only in lectures. The break out sessions are not very useful but you get graded on attendance. One essay, one group project, 3 exams, all very easy.
Huggins has a really cool, bubbly personality and the class was really interesting, HOWEVER, they are tough graders and the tests are absolutely absurd. The tests are all hypothetical situation-based, which makes them really difficult. The amount info expected to memorize for this intro class is so ridiculous. Choose any one else if you can!!!!!
Huggins is entertaining but her class is INSANELY difficult for an intro class. Tests are impossible to get an A on, study guides are lengthy. Group project and essay are graded strictly and on so many tiny criteria. No extra credit and final grades are never rounded (went into the final with 90.47 and finished with exactly 90.00).
She is the most ridiculous grader I've ever had. So much for an "intro" class. She had us write a paper about our own personal experiences and then told us we were all wrong and gave most of the class C's. I had my sister proof read my paper and she studied comm at UGA and I still got a C. She grades hard on discussion posts too.
The class isnt that bad works wise, but shes a very hard grader. She will give you a set of directions, then your grade will reflect otherwise. She wont give you clear feedback on discussion posts, even if you did them correctly per the given directions. Way too harsh for an intro class. I wouldnt recommend her for the online class.
She is the most ridiculous grader I've ever had. AVOID So much for an "intro" class. She had us write a paper about our own personal experiences and then told us we were all wrong and failed us. SHE IS SO HARD FOR NO REASON. LITERALLY THE REASON WHY I WAS STRESSING THE SEMESTER. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE IF POSSIBLE TO AVOID THE STRESS I WENT THROUGH.
Dr. Huggins was a great professor in terms of how she taught. Class was always interesting and fun, but she makes it pretty difficult to get a good grade for an intro class. For our paper and project, she was a very tough grade and the tests are much harder than they need to be. You will need to study hard for each exam.
Dr. Huggins is the very best professor Ive had at UGA. You definitely have to work for your grade, but she is so helpful and genuinely wants you to succeed. She has a fun personality and makes pretty dry material interesting, and it is evident that she truly cares about her students as individuals. If you can, take a class with her!
Dr. Huggins is sincere and genuine. She cares about her students and their success. Attendance is not taken, but nearly everyday she assigns workbook pages and if you are not in class, you will receive a zero for the assignment. The tests are difficult, but if you study they're doable. Dr. Huggins is super funny, sweet, and relatable.
Dr. Huggins is the best prof. I have had at UGA. Her lectures and activities are interesting, and her bubbly personality keeps the class laughing and engaged. You definitely have to work for your grade though. Most of her bad reviews are from students who did not want to work for the A. Only the Friday break out sessions are mandatory!
Dr. Huggins is a great professor. She brings joy and enthusiasm to every class! Class is very easy if you take good notes and read the textbook. Start studying a couple of nights before the test because it is a lot of information. You have to write one paper but it's not hard to do well if you follow her exact directions and rubric. Love her!
The material for this class isn't difficult, but she made the course much more difficult than necessary and was VERY strict with her grading. Even if you followed the rubric exactly, she still counted off points more than necessary. Her quizzes also had many questions which were entirely too specific. She takes it too seriously for an intro class.
Class is not hard but she piles SO MUCH work. (I have more work in this class than my accounting 2 class.) The work she piles is ridiculous. (3-5 hours a night.) She talks too much about her personal life, NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS. READ THAT AGAIN. HORRIBLE EMAIL COMMUNICATOR. She gets distracted way too easily and never finishes lectures.
Huggins is one of the kindest professors I have ever had. She really made me want to work hard and do well in her class. There were times where I wish her communication was better, but she actually cared about her students which is way more valuable. She even noticed when I would have a bad day and choose to reach out on her own time. She's awesome
Huggins is by far one of the best professors I have had at UGA. She cares deeply about her students and takes time to get to know you. She expects you to put in the work, but is kind and approachable in her teaching. She made me excited to learn in her class. I would recommend her to anyone.
Definitely the worst professor at UGA. This is an INTRO course and I have a B currently. I'm in OCHEM 1 right now and have a better grade. I didn't even sign up for this teacher (my original had to leave and I got put into Huggins' class). Yes, Dr. Huggins is a nice teacher, but I am not learning anything and the quizzes are RIDICULOUS. DO NOT TAKE
She's a nice professor, what sucks about the class and everyone will say this are the quizzes. She makes the quizzes way more difficult than what it should be like she's trying to trick you. However ton of HW assignment/ Discussion due every week. They are easy though so they balance out the quiz. And don't GET THE BOOK a waste of money.
Dr. Huggins is a great prof! She is super sweet & takes time to help her students. My class was online asynchronous with optional class meetings right before our quizzes. Lots of assignment and discussion posts, but they do not take a ton of time. If you watch the lecture videos, do the assignments, and fill out the study guide you will be fine.
Dr. Huggins was a great professor! She truly cared about her students and made class enjoyable. You have to show up and do the work to be successful, but she does everything she can to make sure her students succeed. Such a gem, I'm going to miss her.
What was supposed to be my "easy" communication credit turned into my most difficult class this semester. The assignments are hefty with strict due dates, and if you're late by one minute, it's a zero. The most troubling part is her quizzes: # of questions > # of minutes, and she doesn't prepare us well enough. Stay away if you want an easy class!
Dr. Huggins is fabulous. Her lectures are important but clear. When she gives examples, keep note of them and USE them to remember the theories. She gives you everything you need to succeed, but she is a tough grader. You do actually have to study for her quizzes and understand the material that is being tested. There are daily class assignments.
Terrible professor. She assigns absurd amounts of work and then grades very strictly on all of it. I took this as a simple, elective intro class and she made it into a horrible experience. Avoid Huggins at all costs.
You won't get credit for homework assignments if you're not in class. Quizzes are so hard, questions usually have more than one answer that could be right. Majority of class failed at least one quiz. Fill out the study guide yourself and create personal examples for each topic. You have to study! Prof. Huggins was a decent professor though.
She's fun & engaging. Lecture heavy. Hard grader w/very detailed tests. No test correctives offered, which was hurtful w/grades. Also, she never wore a mask. Sure it's a choice, but she'd get very close to the front row without one & make comments about faculty who did. It felt irresponsible & selfish, especially w/the rising COVID #s in Athens.
Dr. Huggins is a very nice lady, but do not take this class if you want an easy A. Her lectures are engaging and enjoyable, but then these tests are very difficult and specific. She grades projects extremely hard even when the rubric standards are met. I would avoid her for this class if you can.
Makes the class A LOT harder than it should be. She grades group projects extremely hard, and the exams are harder than you think they will be. This intro class should be an easy A, but with Huggins, I had to fight for my A-. Do not take her if you want an easy class. However, she is a very sweet lady and I loved her as a person, just not professor
Came into this class terrified because of the reviews on here but LOVED her! Not the easiest class but she's so sweet and fun and makes the material enjoyable. She can be a harsh grader and get off topic at times are my only cons. Participation mandatory and additional reading in the textbook is advised. She gets to know u personally and is great!
Dr. Huggins is easily my favorite professor of the semester. She is the most personable, caring, and relatable professor I've had. Her tests are harder than probably all the other COMM1500 courses, but she is an amazing professor and will prepare you well. Not the professor for the easiest grade, but definitely the professor for best time.
She's very likable & fun, but her quizzes are the worst. You can work hard & study like crazy but the quiz questions are so convoluted & specific it makes it impossible to get the limited # of them right. Some have tried to fight for points on questions w 2 possible answers but she won't go for it. Impossible to reach outside of class. Be weary
Huggins cares about her students and takes me the time to learn every students name. The class is all lecture with note taking, she doesn't allow for any technology so notes must be taken on paper. But the lectures are interesting and often funny. She does tend to grade harshly, and there is few assignments so each one is worth a lot.
Dr. Huggins is a fun person who makes lectures entertaining, however her tests are quite difficult. There are workbook pages that you do in class, so you should definitely not skip and a lot of test material is also lecture-based. None of the slides are posted online either.
her test are way to difficult for a communication class.
Dr. Huggins' class was overall ok. She knows what she's doing, but her lectures can be tedious. In-class worksheets are done randomly (there are 23 of them for the whole semester), so you have to go to every class to make sure you don't miss one. Her tests are all example-based questions, so pay attention to the in-class examples.
Dr. Huggins is super nice and her class is enjoyable however I have never missed class, never missed an assignment, and I study for the exams weeks in advance and cannot get an A on an exam. So while the class is fine it is frustrating to put so much work into a class and still end up getting a B. don't take this class.
For starters, Dr. Huggins is a phenomenal teacher. She teaches the material very well and is overall one of the best professors I have ever had. However, her tests are pretty hard even though it is a communication class, and she is a very tough grader for the group project. She is a caring and great professor, but you do have to work for your grade
I love her and her class. but her tests are way too hard for a comm class and she is a hard grader.
Amazing teacher, never got bored by lectures. Cares about her students and is passionate and very knowledgeable. Very important to pay attention in class, slides do not get posted. Reasonable effort should get you a B but it was very hard to get an A, still possible however
Her exams are way to hard for an intro-level class. They are basically all memorization with confusing answer choices. Even with hours of studying her exams are still incredibly hard.
The material of the class is not hard - but it was very hard to make an A in the class just because of the difficult and confusing tests. Paper grading was also very harsh, even if you follow the rubric closely. Overall the lectures were entertaining, but if you need a COMM credit, I'd recommend taking public speaking instead of this one.
Tests are way too hard for an intro class, really difficult to get an A because of them. the other half of your grade depends on what TA you get and how hard of a grader they are. Her lectures are interesting but the slides give you nothing and neither does the book
Honestly my favorite professor lecture wise, was really engaging and you can tell she enjoys teaching. Downside is her tests are made to confuse you; the questions are all example based and tricky. Everything is graded harshly as if it's life or death; even if you perfectly follow the rubric for the project and essay you'll maybe get a B+ on them
Dr. Huggins is one of the most caring and knowledgeable professors I have ever had. Any low ratings for Dr. Huggins come from students who either 1. do not show up to class or 2. do not reach out or try in class. She puts tremendous effort into fostering a relationship with her students. If you have the chance, I would 100% recommend taking her.
If you have to take COMM 3700, this is the professor to do it with. She is super helpful, caring, kind, and seeks to know her students well. She is very helpful, and wants us to succeed. She is easily accessible, willing to help you, and is seriously so helpful when your group members aren't in the class! Take her!
I took this class in Summer of 2024 and it was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. You do almost all of your work through the Connect platform. You do have to record yourself but it is not a big deal. Requirements for assignments are very specific and easy to follow. There is a group project at the end but also nothing too crazy.
Dr. Huggins is one of the best professors I have had. She is also one of the toughest professors I have had. She is very kind and genuinely cares about the success of her students. She is very approachable and is understandable. I highly recommend taking Dr. Huggins, it won't be "easy" but you will learn so much and feel welcome in her classroom!
the best class ever!! i had her at nine am on mw and i always looked forward to this class. the lectures are engaging, but it important to attend them because some information is lecture only and the rest of the information you need her definitions for. as long as you go to class, pay attention, and put in a little bit of effort, this class is it!
Would not take this professor again if my life depended on it. Good luck with grading causes it's up to the TA's and don't even think about skipping class because it will just punish you more than adding it too your schedule.
Lectures are great; however, tests are very difficult. She's very sweet but not my favorite professor as she takes the course way too seriously for an intro course. I recommend taking an 1100 course instead.
This class is really difficult for an intro level course. The lectures are actually interesting but the tests are incredibly hard because you every question is scenario based. She is really sweet but its just a hard class to get a good grade on when there's 3 tests worth a lot of points
Honestly Horrific; She deceives you into believing the information is very straight forward until you get to the test and realize that no matter how much you know the content grades are purely about how good of a test taker you are. Wouldn't recommend prides herself on being a hard grader.
Just don't take. Just don't. Grade lowerer. tests are stupid hard for no reason in comparison to to other professors. I've put in so much work for no reason just to get a 70 on tests when peers are easily getting 95+ on tests with other profs. Don't to it to yourself. She is a great person and very lovely, but that doesn't help you
While she is a tough teacher because of the difficulty of the course she makes it so fun and makes you really want to learn. While the group project can be annoying it really allows you to learn the material. Overall she is one of my favorite professors I've had at UGA
Do not take this professor for an intro level communications class. This was the first B I have ever gotten and it is embarrassing because it is in a communications class. Attendance is mandatory and the top hats are very annoying to deal with. The exams are almost impossible to get an A on because there are always two right answers.
Do not take this teacher. You can put as many hours as you want to study for the exam, but no amount of effort will get you an A. Unless you are some miracle test taker don't take her class.
If you are looking for a professor with a structured lecturing style, she is not it! She also doesn't upload the chapter slides until a few days before the exam, so good luck trying to study the material in advance.. P.S. If you want to receive an A in the class, you HAVE to do well on the exams, as there aren't many other assignments.
Do not take this class take the tests are WAY too hard and it's just not worth sacrificing your GPA when there are similar classes that you can get the same credit for.
The worst class I have ever taken. Tests are ambiguous and have multiple correct answers. There's true false questions on the test that are extremely specific. Lectures are very boring and she tends to go on rants. Additionally she was very rude to many of her students including calling one of my peers who has rosacea “rosy cheeks”. Don't take this
Avoid at all costs. Don't do it to yourself. This is my first B in a class when this should've been an easy, introductory core class. Although she might seem kind and caring, the assignments are terribly organized, the TA's are TERRIBLE, SUPER tough grading, and insanely hard to do well on the exams no matter how hard you study. AVOID.
Probably the worst professor I have had at UGA. This is a very lecture-oriented course, with lectures consisting of her rambling about her opinions on topics and no real content to grasp. Her tests are nearly impossible, no matter how long you study. Each question is designed to trick you, and usually has two arguably correct answers. AVOID HER
Avoid this teacher. Other comm classes are much better. Tests are impossible. I studied for days & hours and still didn't even make an A on a single exam. TA's are terrible. Has attendance each class and if you miss more than 2 classes you get -10 pts off you final grade. An impossible course to get a good grade in. My only A- in COMMUNICATIONS.
My favorite professor this semester, she is so engaging and kind.
Dr. Huggins has been my favorite professor I've ever had at UGA (as a senior). I honestly could not tell you why her reviews are so bad, she ROCKS!!! Take her if you can!!
Dr. Huggins is such a nice teacher who cares about her students! The class is a very group-heavy class, with many team tasks. Her tests are a bit tricky, but she does review the day before the exam. She truly cares about her students and gives breaks whenever she deems it necessary. Definitely taking one of her classes again!
Dr. Huggins expects a lot out of her students, but she is one of the best teachers I have ever had! She makes an effort to know each of her students and creates such a positive learning environment. The material can be difficult, but she helps you every step of the way. Make an effort and show her you care. 10/10.
Most involved and fun teacher I've had so far. Great at explaining concepts and very caring and personable.
Very sweet, caring, and fun teacher. Gave great and entertaining lectures and cares a lot about student success. Definitely make an effort to try and take this class.
She's a good professor, and I applaud her efforts to keep the class engaged. There is a semester long group project, and it was the most stressful project I've ever had to do. Group tasks were due every week, and her feedback wasn't clear and contradicted itself, or was changed without us knowing. Fine class, TERRIBLE group project.
Interesting material & enthusiastic professor. Knew the material, encouraged students to speak during lecture. Provided her own stories to explain material. For projects, grading was harsh, but not awful. Gives back points on exams if you dispute it. Most people had A- up until final which brought grade to A. Great class would take more with her.
I love Dr.Huggins, this is my second class with her. I took 3700 with her and that content is harder to digest than 3510. 3510 is a very fun class and very easy to engage. The semester long project was easy to complete. The downside to this class is that there were a lot of quizzes and in-class participation is a good part of your grade.
