Christina Booker is an amazing Chemistry Prof. She is very easy to understand and goes over everything in great detail. I would definitely take her class again :)
went way too fast in class and didn't clarify her examples
She's an angel! She made everything so much more clear than my grade 12 chem prof! She's always there after class for questions, she makes the class interactive and fun, and she doesn't have any tests, quizzes, or assignments Do the workbook questions, past exams in the back of the lab manual, understand and ask for help if needed, you're good!
Extremely boring, her analogies suck, and she makes you feel like a 12 year old. However, she does explain stuff well; just not in an exciting way.
Really great prof! She explains concepts really nicely and loves to make students participate. Not a boring class. However, she does go fast during the lectures
Booker is so sweet, her lectures along with the work book are very easy to follow, she does every single example which is very helpful but she does have to go fast to be able to fit it all in. has great analogies and cares about her students, great chem prof.
Booker is an amazing prof. It's very clear from the start that she has a background in teaching and knows how to be engaging and fun. She explains concepts clearly and spends plenty of time on examples during class. CHEM1301 is my highest mark because of her!
Very engaging in the classroom despite such a large lecture. Really knows her stuff. Going to class really helps you stay on top of things and understand concepts. Overall was very impressed with her.
Dr. Booker was very amicable. I found that she always tried to use devices to link the knowledge to something regularly in your brain. We had a replacement once and I didn't find his teaching style or use of tech as professional, though I think he is a great prof I found Dr. Booker to be easier to understand and better prepared.
Booker frequently goes through example questions to teach concepts and assigns plenty for homework. She was very nice and always had a great attitude when teaching. One of my favourite profs in first year and I'm taking her class again this upcoming semester!
Booker goes way too fast and doesn't explain concepts well. I thought she was good after reading all the positive comments here and took her class, ended up attending griffiths class. She's certainly not worth your first choice.
Booker puts a lot of thought and creativity into her lectures. I like how she applies what we're learning to real-life examples. Booker is approachable, helpful and professional. She's a natural teacher, and that makes all the difference in a class, if the teacher cares about the subject and their students.
She was good
Great prof in terms of being able to explain different concepts in ways that students can understand!
She went too fast through the lectures so we all were rushing to get notes. She took too long covering simple examples but left the hard ones for the end so she sped through them without fully explaining. She taught/spoke to us like we were 12 but she can be funny at times. I went in loving chem but left each lecture hating it more and more.
Great prof, really interesting lectures.
Readings teach almost all you need to know, lectures are best for helping you with the questions. She is really nice, teaches clearly. She can be a bit fast sometimes, but most of the time its okay. Assignments took while, easy Qs, and confusing Qs. Do text questions. Practise the questions you don't get. Final was SUPER HARD for some reason.
She's got a dismissive attitude as if you are wasting her time and that she's better than you because she is a doctor of chemistry.
good prof, explains difficult concepts well in lectures
Very clear, makes sure we understand concepts well, and engages us.
Teaches like an elementary school teacher which is sometimes funny. Great prof overall
Christina Booker delivered the most energetic and inspirational lectures in Chem 1302 B. She made me want to go to 9:30 am lectures during the week and made understanding the content in class very easy. She works hard to teach the material in the best way possible! Take the course with Dr. Booker if you can!
Christina Booker may be my favourite prof for first year. She made CHEM 1302 fun and interesting despite all the mathematical components. She explains concepts very clear and concise without overcomplicating. Class participation truly helped even though she posted notes online. Made me want to attend all 9:30 am classes!
Makes concepts easy, explains well, very energetic and enthusiastic. Overall, a really solid prof.
Dr. Booker is really nice and gives great lectures. She is always available for answering questions and helping out. The exams are very fair.
Booker puts the "energetic" in chemical energetics.
Booker is so enthusiastic about what she is teaching. Her PhD was in the area of biofuels, a topic discussed in this class. She uses effective demonstrations to reinforce points, and creates very fair exams based on lecture material. I would take this course even if it was not required, even if you are not a super strong chem student.
Dr. Booker's environmental chemistry exams were very fair, and her lectures were clear and engaging. She genuinely cares about her students and takes into consideration any feedback you have for her as a lecturer. Chem2210 is mainly conceptual/applications, with few calculations that were learned in first-year chem!
Booker is a gem. So glad she was my first class of the day. The midterm was a little harder than expected, so make sure you do all of the practice questions in the workbook. Strongly recommend taking her class over blended!
Really good professor. She is a good lecturer with good examples. Would take again.
As a first-year medical science student, Booker has been my fav prof so far! Here's why: - She's incredibly clear, balancing creative metaphors and scientific principles - Clear/reasonable exam questions - Explains both visually and orally How to succeed: - Practise workbook questions very similar to exams - ALWAYS keep up with lectures GL :)
Dr. Booker is hands-down my favourite first-year prof. It is very evident that she wants all of her students to succeed and she presents the topics very clearly, even the difficult ones.
Her lectures go over the essential information and are actually not boring. However, the constant iClickers are tedious and redundant, and she tends to spend more time explaining simple math than chemistry concepts. Overall, you learn what you need to from her lectures. Her exams are fair, but there are few chances to prove your understanding.
She spends a lot of time going over very simple questions and the math which will drag if youre an eng student but if youre in med sci or health sci and dont like math itll definitely help you. Slow paced learning with lots of examples. Read and do them. The only challenge is the exams; they're harder than youd expect for MC.
Honestly, she taught the course to us like we were kids and I found it super adorable and engaging, despite her teaching through videos. She would record things outside or even make jello to explain a concept. I loved listening to her lectures.
Lectures made me feel like I was back in kindergarten and I loved every minute of it. It's clear she really cares about her students and came up with some engaging ways of teaching the material despite everything being online. Chem in general was adapted quite well to an online format. Really great prof! 10/10 would reccommend
Dr. Booker and the entire chem department did such a good job making this class online during the pandemic. Everything was laid out in an organized fashion and lectures simplified material very well. All assessments were fair except for the final exam. I felt as if the usage of ProctorTrack was ineffective since the software is so controversial.
Out of the three profs we had for this class, Booker was by far my favourite. She feels like your favourite high school teacher (which will hopefully be comforting to hear). She is so fun, kind and engaging. Her on-line lectures are fantastic with her little intro/outro music (this made me so happy). Class is still tricky, but Booker made it fun.
Dr. Booker's lectures were always creative and engaging! She is very energetic, helpful, and did a great job simplifying the material. Her explanations are always clear and make excellent use of analogies and metaphors. One of my favourite lectures was the outdoor "exercise" lesson for the IR spectroscopy section! Too bad 1302 wasn't as good.
Honestly, I felt like Dr. Booker did the bare minimum this year. She never offered help sessions or office hours, and her "lectures" were very ineffective and disorganized. She never approved my SRA and said "no exceptions" for missed assignments, even with an SRA?! Because of this, my mark dropped by almost 10 percent and I almost failed the cours
Terrible prof. I don't care what other people say. As course coordinator, Dr. Crooker made me lose interest in Chemistry. She DIDN'T even upload proper lectures! She just made up useless modules that were a waste of time!! How are we supposed to learn anything?? By only reading the workbook?? Not to mention the online labs were bad too. Oh god.
Chem 1302 was a definite downgrade from 1301. There were no lectures and the only lesson resources we got were A) example videos and B) unclear modules made by a prof who wasn't even teaching the course. Dr. Booker's example videos were quite helpful but aside from that... not much support from the profs. I like chem, but 1302 was not it.
for some reason, dr. booker did not seem as friendly as she once used to be. this term, she has no remorse for students at all and does not take compassionate grounds into consideration. also, i haven't seen any of her lectures except for the example vids. overall, bad experience with mr. booker and the chem1302 team.
Professor Christina Booker seemed nice at first until she's not. I had a time conflict with my midterm and she never gave me accommodation even with an SRA. Obviously, I did poorly and she seemed happy about it. Not good!
She seems nice but 1301 was much better than 1302 (maybe because the other profs in 1301 were much better than in 1302?). Not horrible but not amazing either, in terms of teaching ability. I personally did much better in 1301 because I enjoy structural chem more than chem energies and Booker and the rest of the profs only exacerbated this.
Great professor, dont let the large course load of Chemistry distract you from the fact that she keeps you constantly engaged throughout the entire lecture.
Enthusiastic and explains well.
Made chemistry one of my favourite classes!
Christina booker was probably the best prof I could have asked for. Chemistry is really difficult for a lot of people but the way she teaches makes it seem so easy. She keeps lectures super engaging too. Overall, an absolute privilege to be taught by her
She's the best first year chem prof. Her class is early, but worth it. She makes chem easy to understand and engaging. The class goes so fast, but this isn't her fault, there's a lot of material and very little time. Amazing prof, wish I had her next semester. Very clear, caring, engaging, would take this class again. Exams are pretty hard
She is a nice prof, really focused on student participation. But I think she teaches a bit too fast for the lecture, I am always self-teaching by doing practices and watching videos on Youtube after class. Overall, the whole course is not that complicated and hard so it shouldn't be a problem of which prof you choose.
Honestly the golden standard for me so far at Western. The lectures were very well-paced, and prof Booker explained concepts that confused me in high school in a clear manner. Overall a well-organized course, with great utilization of the textbook. She was also the only prof who could properly implement i-clicker.
LOVE christina!!! she's amazing and my fav prof i had this term!
Dr. Booker made no effort in teaching, she seems nice at first but gets real nasty near exam period. Unclear lectures and does not care about students. Was scared to ask her questions because she was not really approachable. I hope Dr. Booger can improve in the future.
My fav prof this term! She's clear when explaining and goes over very helpful examples in class. Shows up smiling everyday.. 10/10!
Found that her lectures were fast paced and did not clearly explain topics. I often left class confused. Also, I found she did not provide enough practice questions to apply the concepts taught. Exams were difficult as well.
Absolutely loved Booker, she's super enthusiastic and very clear. If you do have questions she always stays behind after class and talks to people who come up to her (it definitely depends on her schedule though). I will say they make you buy a bunch of things at the beginning of the year, so that's something to keep in mind. All evaluations are mc
Overall her lectures were engaging and clear. If you have any questions she sticks around after class. Make sure you attend class because there are in class iclicker questions (participation you don't have to get it right) that count towards your final grade.
I had Booker as a chem prof and she was amazing! I loved her teaching style. Although some of my friends thought her pace was a bit fast, I thought that it was a good pace. She explains course content well and is good at answering any questions.
Loved Booker. Teaches at a moderately fast pace, but everything she covers is in the textbook. The key to success is treating the lectures as a supplementary resource to the textbook. Very enthusiastic and engaging lectures, although I have heard some people complain that she treats us like we are kindergartners although it never really bothered me
She's has a calendar and OWL site that is better managed/organized than most professors. Due dates are easy to find, she pronounces "Occur" the same way Cardi B say OKURRR.
Dr Booker is amazing. Her lectures are interesting and well executed. She really inspires me and makes me feel proud to be a woman in STEM.
Very well organized class, great lectures, very engaging
Dr. Booker is a very good professor; the way she solves problems tends to be easy. Try to get your mastering chem done asap because it is not fun grinding through it on the last day. Exams are tough, especially the final exam so prepare well. Also, if you have guest speakers/any special lecture, be sure to know its content because it'll be tested.
Professor Booker made the material really easy to understand, and was engaging in lectures. I had her for 1301 as well, and would recommend her for both.
God bless Booker's soul for passing me. All the others profs teahing chem 1302 are ass except her.
Booker is so good. She is clear, and makes topics easy understand. You HAVE to go her classes though. If you skip I found myself falling behind fast. She's one of the best profs for intro courses and I'd take her again because she's really good at making things clear the first time around. Exam was tough but if you study you should be ok!
Dr. Booker is an amazing prof. She is awesome, and I loved her lectures.
Average prof and not really accommodating to students difficult circumstances. Dr. Booker's lectures felt rushed and at times disorganized but they were good prep for the exam. Dr. Booger also lacks empathy and did not approve my medical note even tho the note is from western. Overall, Booger was OK but could be better. :)
Booker is a super sweet prof and I had her for the entirety of first year because of it. She makes the lectures fun and super engaging when the content gets tricky. However, her test questions are quite difficult to solve and she misses out some parts of detailed and important content so I would beware when having her as a prof as you need to read.
Enthusiastic, engaging, and reviews topics before jumping into something new. Exam questions are similar to practice questions. She does a lot of iClicker questions during lectures. Clarify concepts you did not understand with Booker and she will explain them well. Recommend taking her class if given the option.
booker is very clear in her lectures becaus she uses amazing examples that she either illustrates or demonstrates in a manner that is easy to understand.
Dr. Booker is my favourite professor! Her lectures are very clear and well organized. She is very enthusiastic and passionate about what she is teaching, which makes it very easy to engage in the lectures. She uses lots of good examples and analogies. I also love that she plays good music right before class and walks around to chat with people.
Excellent prof, amazing and clear lecture. The context is a little bit hard, but it's okay.
Seriously an amazing prof, always thorough in explanations and makes it very easy to understand
Great prof, I highly recommend her classes. Suggest showing up to lectures, she uses lots of hand motions and in-person material that sometimes doesn't translate over videos. Super accessible outside class and answers emails quickly!
She is such a great professor!
very nice and fun to listen to. lectures were engaging and ran smoothly. I like her music she plays before class starts. the final exam was ridiculously hard but I don't think that was entirely her fault. would recommend!
Dr. Booker is one of those profs whose lectures you will always look forward to. She could probably make a 150 page terms and conditions document sound interesting. Her ability to explain complicated concepts is unmatched, her positive energy is infectious, and her passion is inspiring. If you get her as your prof, you're lucky!!
Her lectures were very engaging and clear and she is always willing to stay after class to clear up any confusion.
Dr. Booker is caring and is great at teaching, making the difficult concepts easy to understand. I don't like chemistry but enjoyed going to her lecture because of how passionate she is. She does a quite of demonstrations which are not included in the recordings so if you do not want to miss it make sure you go to her class .
Information was presented at a reasonable pace. All tested concepts were well-explained in class.
She is an absolutely amazing prof. She really cares about her students, and her lectures reflect that. She has great explanations, uses thorough examples, and really prepares you well for any assessments.
Booker is the best prof I had in first year. The lectures are so engaging and the prof is so positive and clear. This professor is contributing so much to the world.
She really cares about her students and is the best teacher for this course. Chem 1302B is a very heavy and long course but, Professor Booker goes above and beyond to simplify concepts in a well-paced manner. Plus, she is a very wholesome and nice person after/outside of lectures. 11/10.
Best Chem Prof. Super friendly and accessible. Kept lectures interesting. GOATED
Yeah, Booker is pretty great. She's really friendly and taught material very clearly. Only criticism is that sometimes she moves a little fast.
I adore Prof. Booker, she made chemistry so enjoyable. The tests are very straightforward if you went to lectures and did the practice. Make sure to go to class, do the workbook probems and the past tests, and you're set. This course has the potential to be challenging but she made the content simple and her problem-solving strategies were helpful.
great
She's awesome! The course material definitely got harder towards the end of the semester though.
bird course
Dr. Booker is an amazing lecturer and makes chemistry much easier to understand. You need to do all of the homework and go to every lecture to do well in this class.
We love her.
I skipped her lectures many times in favour of another prof and feel bad for doing so because there is nothing "wrong" or "bad" about the way she teaches. She's a wonderful professor, but lacks the "je ne sais quoi" that truly makes a professor spectacular. Regardless, you are in good hands if you take her class. She will set you up for success.
Dr. Booker's passion shows in her lectures. She's especially good if you're a visual learner, as she uses many props to demonstrate molecular processes. I sat in Booker's and Felix Lee's lectures for 90% of the term and while Lee is better at answering questions, Booker teaches in a more straight forward and intuitive way.
literally amazing slay queen i love her
Happy and energetic
I love her teaching style. She is so creative and tries her best to convey ideas in the best way possible without making it boring. The only thing I wish is if she solved more exam like questions to give us some ideas (exam questions are much harder than what we do in lectures).
Dr. Booker is such a kind-hearted person. If you need help with anything, you bet you can rely on her. Amazing lectures, enthusiastic, caring, clear-spoken, just fantastic. This is a prof you have got to take.
I'm in second-year now, and still, I haven't encountered any other prof who beats Dr. Booker in terms of lecture quality, clarity, enthusiasm, and her kindness. Some profs have come close (if they are bird courses), but Booker is that type of prof that is truly memorable. Not just because of her lectures, but because of who she is as a person.
Super enthusiastic, caring and energetic lectures. The only kinda mm thing for me was that she tends to approach topics in a 'this is what it is' sort of way rather than from a 'why this happens' angle, if that makes sense. Could be a not enough time thing. Oh! and she gives awesome tips on how to memorize certain formulas and stuff, super helpful.
Best. Chem. Prof. Ever. She's so engaging in her lectures and very clear and methodological in her explanations so it's quite easy for you to follow along.
I would always go to her lectures rather than my original lecture section due to how great her lectures were. Explains everything very clearly and concisely and moves at a great pace. Lecture questions prepared you well for the exam.
Best prof, and she prepares you for exam. Just amazing
Booker is a very good professor. She prepares you very well for the midterm/exam, and is very energetic and caring. Some people just dont like this course, hence they do bad, but she is seriously one of the best first year profs
Incredible lectures, very organized. Nothing bad to say. Assessments are more than fair.
Very fair midterm and final. Very accurate to practice questions.
Christina Booker is so sweet and kind. She teaches clearly and with passion. Definitely a 5/5!
Lectures are great, and recorded. Midterm & exam very easy if you study.
Peak teaching, the most caring and understanding prof out there. Her explanations of concepts are great, and she goes very in depth. 10/10 would take any of her classes again
Her class is always full and everyone else's is at half capacity at best. Even the students who don't attend class at all are watching her lecture recordings instead of their own professors'. She is single-handedly saving every single chem 1302 student. She is also incredibly kind.
enthusiastic, energetic, and always positive
i love bookers lectures. she wasn't even my prof, i was in a different section but i adored the way she taught so much that i would go to her lectures instead of my actual prof LOL.
Booker is a great prof, her lectures are entertaining and I really enjoyed the course. If you take Chem 1301 I highly recommend either her or Felix lee, I had a great understanding of the content because of them.
Very caring and explained concepts well, I am just terrible at chemistry but she is an amazing prof!
Lectures were very visual and she makes learning the content easy and fun!
Dr. Booker's passionate lectures and clear explanations make the class engaging. Attending every class is crucial, and using resources like unstuck AI can really help with study prep.
Took Integ 3002 and while it is an Integ sci course it's open to other sci students and there's no doubt marking was easier for Integ Sci students (15% difference on identical reports). Other students in the course who were not in Integ sci also felt the same way. Good first year prof, but don't take any other course if you're not in Integ Sci.
The lessons are great which makes concepts easy to understand. Dr Booker has a positive attitude and brings thoughtful demonstrations to class. Unfortunately, the exams amplify the difficulty of learned material by a lot. Not to mention that there are only 25 questions which are unfair and highly challenging, each with 5 possible options.
Dr. Booker is an amazing prof. She explains the math side of chemistry super clearly and has a fun demo most classes. The chem department also provides a workbook full of practice problems, past tests and midterms, which are really similar to the actual exams.
Great and passionate at teaching, often skips steps in math and isn't always clear I have to re listen to lectures, reread the workbook, use ChatGPT to fully understand. Exams feel unfair cuz many questions include extra steps she didn't teach, leaving us figure them out magically.I still appreciate her style and would take another course with her.
Amazing professor, she explains concepts super clearly and posts her lectures online making it easy to go back to any concept you're confused about. Do the practice problems in the workbook and you should be good.
She's a great prof and she a baddie too
Overall a great prod with clear lectures. Assignments were fair!
Dr. Booker's lectures were clear, and she always engaged the class with her demos. Overall a good prof, especially for 1301A
Great professor really breaks down the content really well.
Amazing prof!
Booker = GOAT
Dr. Booker is the textBOOK definition of a chemistry professor. She is so engaging, animated, and articulate, making every concept and problem-solving tutorial clear, comprehensive, and fun to learn! Like any course, Chem 1302B requires work, but her lectures made the course easy to follow and helped me ace the exams. Thank you, Dr. Booker!
Dr. Booker is an amazing professor and teaches concepts very engagingly. HOWEVER, I found her exams very difficult. Also, the exams were always very different than the exams she provided us from previous years. Overall, If I had to take Chem 1302b, I would choose Dr. Booker, however know that I found it so much harder than Chem 1301A. Good luck!
The best chem prof for first year hands down, so easy explanations, helped w all the doubts, and explained the molecular structure w the toys nd everything extremely nicely
She is such a sweet professor and explains concepts so easily
I'm not even in her class but I rewatch her lecture recordings because my prof doesn't record, she speaks very slowly and clearly and uses good examples to get students to understand difficult concepts. She cares about getting students to genuinely understand the material and engage and isn't just reading off a script.
Dr. Booker is hands down the best prof for chem ever. She made me fall in love with chemistry again. The course difficulty no matter the professor will stay the same, however its truly the lecture that can make or break this course, and she is the best possible one to have!
What a great first chem prof. Her explanations are crystal clear and she further deepens your understanding with props and other demonstrations. Honestly cannot give her enough credit for how enjoyable she has made chemistry.
Booker is such a goat; she explains the most complicated concepts in such clear and easy ways, and with such passion, too. She's such a sweetheart, and her lectures are amazing; her method of teaching is so effective, and it's clear she knows her stuff. I've gone out of my way to get her class spots for the following semester.
She said 6-7 in class so I had to switch into her class next sem as well. Truly the GOAT of chemistry.
Dr. Booker is the best professor/teacher I have ever had in sciences. She teaches at a good pace while also being clear and making her lectures incredibly easy to follow. Every new student should try to get in her class right away.
She's the GOAT. Make sure you get her in first year if you have the option I promise it's worth it she's the best.
Unreal prof. Every first year should switch into her class.
Excellent prof. Very easy-to-follow lectures with good pacing and explains concepts with models and terms that a 10 y/o could understand. Her lectures strongly reflected textbook content, which made it easy to catch up and prepare for lectures. Exams were very fair and reflected course content. Personally will have her again for CHEM1302B.
loved her sm!!! she explained things very very clearly and was always enthusiastic. u can tell she actually wanted us to understand. great prof, super sweet, but I think our class was the most behind only cause she explained concepts with more detail!
Dr. Booker is the best prof I have had at Western. She is so excited about all topics she teaches and she stays around after class to answer any questions. The way she walks through practice problems provides a thorough understanding of any confusion topics. I take certain classes just because I know Dr. Booker teaches them.
