Profe Preciado is THE BEST professor in smc. she challenges yr preconceived notions, so you need to be willing to look outside the box. coursework is easy, tests are easy, but you LEARN. she is very willing to help students understand material.

She is very good and extremely helpful. I now have her again, but for Sociology 1. She will even help you during her "non office hours." However, she is passionately into her subject and politican issues that affect all minorities.

Interesting teacher but makes you work a lot for your grade. Can be a pain at times but usually, you will get along with her. She will require you to participate in class and must read all assignments before hand. Hard grader in the end, because participation counts a lot.

Whew! I was scared to speak up in this course because of the types of people it attracted--petty, judgmental, & inexperienced girls! The teacher made some great points, but the atmosphere was stressful for me and others in class. Take this course if you can bite your tongue and like frustration.

Profesora Preciado is a great teacher. She was very helpful all the times I went to her office, and great about answering my questions. She is a tough grader, but you will learn tons. THis is not an easy A class, but it was a greaet experience.

Powerful lectures. Tons of class discussions, and it's a class that makes you to really think. She's always willing to help anyone out if they talk to her about whatever problems u may have in her class. May have trouble speaking up if u r a Republican, but it's NOT her who may stop you. Though she's extremely liberal, she's open-minded.

Awesome teacher. Very energetic at class meetings. Makes the subject very interesting.. it's a sociology class, so don't be shy about asking questions or loop holes about group tests.. *hint hint* I love her enthusiasm and the lectures are so organized, it's hard to fail in her class. Oh what can I saw about profe Preciado, she's GREAT! One of the best proffesor's I have ever had, she challeges you to think "OUTSIDE THE BOX" She's fair and dedicated to what she does. Also very active mujer, always wanting to help.

Preciado changed my life. I now how an MA in Sociology and she was the one who sparked my first interest in the subject. I can only hope to be half as good a teacher. I am curious what happened at last years' graduation, though...She is a truely inspiring and transformational leader.

i loved this prof...conservative repubs will hate her teaching style (very much praxis oriented), but i loved the projects she prompted. she encourages experience and creativity. shes also funny and sarcastic, which made a 3 hour long class fun!

She is a great professor and has a lot to teach. However, this is NOT a class that you will get an easy A in. I'm taking two science classes and am working the hardest in her class and have had to put the most time into it and we don't have any homework. She's great and will open your mind, the actual class is refreshing, but the tests are hard.

Yes it's true Preciado puts your mind to work but i don't think of it as a bad thing. I think other students complain because they're just use to an easy grade. She's fun, creative and cares about her students. If you want to learn your material take Preciado, trust me you will learn. I love her, she stands-up for students rights.

Excellent teacher! DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT AN "A". If Soc. is your major you will definitely LEARN. She is hilarious and makes the class fun. One of SMC's "MUST" professor, and for me she is one of a woman of the year 2006 who I met. I admire her so much.... her humor, confidence and intelligence... she is so cool!!! by the way if you are lazy to read books, you can't get good grade.

If you read and participate the class really makes you think. If you just memorize it doesn't work, you gotta apply it to learn it. Watch out for kiss asses in the class.

It is a collaborative class...if you don't feel you got 'taught' it's cause you couldn't learn!

She's has a very different style of teaching. But she's pretty cool. She tried to make the class a collaborative effort with emphasis on the students taking control. It's an interesting class, but sometimes got a bit annoying because of the lack of structure. If there are good leaders in the class then it can def work. Overall she's pretty good tho

Everyone is correct with there evalution on assessing this professor. I received a B- had I taken the final would have received an A. Now that I look back on it. I learned in valuable information. Great teacher, but makes you work. Very opinionated but very informative. Learn everyone's name in the class - she sometimes randomly quizzes you. A lot of class participation, but not in a scary way - a lot of fun. Form a study group! And, if you ask her to join, she will come and help you study for the tests. I really enjoyed her class!

By week 2, I almost dropped the course. Long story short: HER CLASS IS WORTH EVERY MINUTE. There are few classes & teachers I vividly remember. Soc 1 with Preciado is a class that added to me as a person. She pushed me and expanded me and SHE even learned from ME and the other students. Wants students to THINK, challenge, take action in own lives.

Professor Preciado's class is not about memorizing what you read and hear. You must apply the information. Form a study group, take the online quizzes, except short essay, get the most current study guide for the textbook and study it for each chapter. Study groups should review completed readings, test material and exchanged notes only.

Don't bother taking her classes unless you're prepared to be challenged. Not only by Preciado, but by you classmates. Her classes are very interactive and engaging. The only reason someone may not enjoy her teaching is because they're to think beyond mainstream ideas and the status quo.

i loved this class. the professor is the best one i had yet she really makes u think. i got a "C" but i thats 'cause i didnt really participate and didnt really do so good on essays. if taking this class having some background in sociology like taking sociology 1 would be helpful but not required.she likes when the class acts as one remember that.

Honestly, I was scared the first week this class, but I am SOOO thankful I experienced the class that Preciado brings to her students. Yes, it is difficult and many people did have a REALLY tough time on her exams, but I made it through and enjoyed every moment! She is GREAT if you apply yourself, get involved with students and have dedication!!

Preciado is an amazing professor. She wants all her students to succeed and gives out plenty opportunities to do so. However, it is a pretty tough class. I received an A-grade but I worked very hard for it; more than a handful of all-nighters studying and such. Her lectures are good, but make sure you get the text and take very detailed notes.

I had her for three Sociology classes, & she is amazing. Her class is tough, because it requires a LOT of reading. You should read the required material beforehand. She's very passionate about Sociology. She comes of as kind of mean at first, but as time goes on, she's actually a very good professor. Office hours are VERY helpful.

Participate, meet w her, create study groups, be respectful, & don't try to cheat or text during an exam, you will look stupid. I learned a lot about myself in this class. This Professor has impacted my life and has made me a better student. I took Soc 1 and 31 with her. Soc 31 was life changing and I learned so much about myself. Stay ontop of all your readings, make a study group, participate and meet up with her as much as you can. This class is very interesting and the prof. is funny and very interesting!

Great proffesor just to start out. Her methods of teaching is what makes the class fun. She intergrates the material that is studied to veryday life. When coming to tests, they are a bit hard consisting of 50 questions each, so reading the textbook is very important. Overall great class.

This professor gives amazing lectures and makes really thought provoking points. She explains the material from the book and relates it to relatable examples. The class builds critical thinking and makes you see the world with more awareness. You might even come out of the class a soc major.

I love taking classes w/ her. The best professor I've ever had. I have taken Soc.1,2,31, and Wo.St.8- I earned an A in every single class. Her teaching method is excellent. She gives you examples that you can relate to, she's very thurough explaining terms. Her tests consist of participating in class, reading the text, and asking questions.

Prof. is dedicated to students and loyal to the coursework, the text is dense but truly fascinating. Lectures are wildly informative and interactive, you are participating or you are failing. I took this class just to fill a gap btwn two other required classes and this was possibly my favorite class at college yet. This class should be mandatory.

Sociology is a very interesting subject, and Prof. Preciado's commentary on society makes the class extra interesting. HOWEVER, her exams are not simple or straight-forward. THough she will admit that critical thinking is very important for the class, her exams require you to read EVERY page from the chapter!! I got an A, with a lot of work.

PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING! Whether its movies, the textbook, ecompanion, powerpoints. You will definitely learn but hard class. Ended up with a B but yes always keep up with the reading because she will call you out

I took intro to sociology with her. I will admit that her class is hard, but if you read and ask questions ( trust me on this you want to!) she will not only answer them, but she will answer them in a way that actually sticks into your mind. I ended up with a B- but her class is well worth it.

Amazing Professor, a great mentor and of course very understanding person. I took her Sociology 1 & 31 and Women Studies classes and I had an amazing time learning the material plus expanding my interest in the Social Sciences. If you want a challenging class and want t learn you should definitely take any of her classes.

This class was a hybrid,It was also econ 6, meaning we had two great professors. She is such a smart woman. If you have the chance take her! her work might be hard but she is very approachable. She should honestly be the only socio prof at smc.

Preciado is a wonderful Professor. Class lectures was always on point. But you must READ and go to as much STUDY GROUPS to retain the material. I wish I would have done more of that! Grade is based on 4 Exams and Final. No Extra Credit/Papers. You will like/love this class if you put all your effort and time into it.

This woman is off the charts AMAZING. Granted she is a little intimidating at first she will literally raise your IQ by the end of the semester. She is one of the best professors I have ever had because she knows how to really teach. She almost teaches too good because now when I'm in other classes I know everything and get bored lol TAKE HER!

This class was amazing, intense, and wonderful all in one. Straight forward lovely interactive lectures. Reading chptrs is mandatory. 4 exams 1 final. study group recommended. I learned a lot and loved her methodology and humor. I highly recommend this class! as it was recommended to me.

It's impossible to be bored in her class! She's a phenomenal speaker and teaches with so much enthusiasm. If you want an A, there are NO short-cuts and no curves, so be prepared to put in the work. 4 exams (55q) + Final (100q) ONLY! Make each one count. Exams are tricky. Be engaged and participate! Who wants to teach a room full of a dead crowd?

She is the best professor I've had at this college. she was very helpful and clear. She is the reason why I am now a Soc major. Would take again, but sadly we were her last class before she retired.
