She's a very bright young professor. Her neutrality is a breath of fresh air. She knows her stuff, is willing to listen, and answers questions forthrightly. Her only problem is the constant use of the phrase "the reality is..." (43 times in one class!) Otherwise, a great professor. Take this course.
Democratization: DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! The material is good but the test questions are incomprehensible. I am a junior and had a 4.13 before this class, the tests are a joke. It is as if she closed her eyes and picked random pieces of information out of the text, which is a lot of reading, to ask a random question. No help, does not respond to emails
I've had Dr. Schatzman for two classes, this one online, and she is the BEST professor I've had at ASU. Her classes are hard, but if you just particpate, she gives you the benefit of the doubt.
Great teacher! I took this class in winter session and the tests were all essay format (2-3 pages per question). The class was a lot of work but with hard work, you can get an A!
This class is IMPOSSIBLE to pass! The tests are incredibly hard. Prof assigns 10-15 articles plus videos. Tests are random questions in regards to articles and videos. Only take the class if you have nothing better to do otherwise DO NOT! DONT DO IT!
THE MATERIAL IS GOOD. IT IS VERY INTERESTING TO LEARN ABOUT SOUTH AMERICA AND ITS POLITICS. HOWEVER, SHE IS NOT FAIR WHEN CREATING TESTS, OR QUIZZES, THE QUESTIONS ARE RANDOMLY BASED. NOT A VERY FAIR TEACHER AT ALL, BELIEVE ME.
This class has been nothing but a huge waste of a lot of my time. The professor is useless other than dump too much reading on us and then give random questioned test that nobody is learning from. I wouldn't suggest taking the course from her to anyone!
Took online, and have an A so far. Lots of articles to read, videos to watch, and textbooks. That said, only 3 tests so you can do it all before each test if you want. Couple test questions (esp. regarding Putin and democracy) are arguable - she is unclear about wording some questions, but overall it's easy if you study for yourself. simple format
She does not respond to emails. Class is a huge waste of time. All reading, videos and tests. Very little interaction and no assignments to assist with learning. Tests are questionable and I have argued some questions with no response from her. I would highly recommend taking this course from another professor.
Great teacher, extremely knowledgable and gives fair tests. The tests are right from the articles and videos. If you read the material, you WILL pass the class. True, there is quite a bit of reading, but the questions were fair and her syllabus is clear and direct with her expectations. The whiners expect an "A" because it is an online class.
And another thing, she's kinda hot!
Online class. Never gives lectures, just gives you a useless powerpoint. You can study and still do poorly; seems like doing well on exams and quizes is just blind luck. Never responds to emails and never does things when she says she will. Assignments are open book and she gives you a review but some of the questions are tricky. Don't take.
Its a decent class but it seems like she puts more effort into trying to trick you on test and quiz questions. No lectures, just powerpoint type slides and reading from the book. Grading scale sucks, have to get a 94 for an A. I wouldn't take unless you have a interest or absolutely need the class. One missed question is a deduction of 1% on grade
Have to do weekly discussion boards and 3 exams. Class is stupidly easy if you have basic reading comprehension skills. She doesn't seem to particularly helpful, and the powerpoints are poorly made. Meh professor.
Poor teacher; no response to emails or questions; just sends out power point slides with no lecture and book assignments. i could teach myself for free. doesn't deliver on promises and there is no incentive for students to participate in online thoughtful discussions, just required to post and that's it.
Global Controversies (online)was focused on poverty & was interesting but all Schatzman really did was provide the reading list. She never answered e-mails, did not participate in the discussion board, and had useless powerpoint lectures. But overall the class was pretty easy, you write weekly discussion board posts and take 3 tests.
Typical internet professor who only seems to exist to give you a grade. Did answer my emails within a day. Alot of economics readings, but interesting. Yes, her slides are boring BUT they're all you need for tests! Questions come right off of it, so they're great! It wasn't the best quality class, but I learned stuff and its not hard. Good for GPA.
Very easy summer class. A few relatively short readings from the textbook and a quiz every week, and two short papers.
Not a hard teacher at all, as long as you do what you need to do. If you are looking for an online class, whether it's POS 486 or POS 300, take this teacher. I am glad I did.
The syllabus is set up so exams are worth 90% of the grade with 30% per exam. At the last minute she changed it so that two exams would be worth 45% and the lowest score would be dropped. This is a class where there is no interaction. All the grades are established by multiple choice questions on either the quizzes or exams.
Really easy class...Really interesting readings too. If you take this class make sure you cite your Discussion Board sources clearly. If you're taking POS 150 online take Schatzman!
The online class requires a LOT of work. You definitely need to make sure you stay on top of the reading. I took this in the 7 week course and it moves very quickly. Read about 2-3 chaps/week, quizzes are fine as long as you do the reading, tests were more difficult only because of some wording of quests. and the amount of material fit into 7 wks.
I've taken 2 classes with this teacher and both of the classes were extremely difficult. The amount of reading is massively overloaded and the tests are difficult. I will try to avoid taking her classes in the future.
I had an online class with this professor, and I cant stand her. She had absolutely NO interaction with any of us at all. She took forever to post grades (4 weeks. REALLY?!). She didnt respond to emails or hallway chats. My advisor had to contact her to find out why grades hadnt been posted. BORING class. BORING teacher. AVOID if possible!
Took 7.5 weeks online. Although the subject itself was interesting, the textbook was incredibly esoteric and difficult to understand. I am a 3.8 student and really had to work hard for a B+ in this class. Exams were incredibly difficult and tested on material buried deep in the text that at times seemed irrelevant to the course as a whole.
I am used to having a lot of reading for upper division classes but her workload is unbelievable. An inordinate amount of readings that have to be completed in a single week. Typically 12-15 chapters. Unable to get a hold of her, relatively unhelpful. Would not recommend her to anyone.
I have had her for 2 classes before. The amount of reading is ridiculous: much of it was not explained and the discussion boards were ridiculous. I advise another teacher
Pretty cool class, really enjoyed the topics. Alotttt of reading, make sure to stay in top of it. Quizzes and exams are directly from readings and powerpoints so it's easy as long as you've read the material. Pretty cool class and straightforward
I have taken 3 courses offered by this professor and the only word of advice that I have is to buy the book online if available and make sure it has a search setting to use during tests, print out the notes as well. The amount of time you would need to put in to grasp all the concepts she tests you on, is extensive/in-depth. Got a B in all 3 GD LK
Course isn't as bad as some claim, although I understand if it's someone's first foray into upper division classes. Lots of reading but answers are clearly pulled from the book and Quiz/DB points are easy to obtain. Exams can be worded a tad odd, but the time limit is VERY long so you can easily double or triple check every answer.
Easiest online course I have ever taken! I would recommend this class to anyone who needs an SB credit and easy A. I took it online! There was a 10 pt quiz each week along with one writing assignment. I got a B+
Very Hard class. Alot of reading. I mean like 10 chapters a week. Don't take it unless you have nothing going on in your life. I will never take her again, and I'm an A student.
Not too hard of a class. Weekly reading required, along with a discussion post (drops lowest 3). Three, 2-3 page papers. Along with three tests. Finished with an A-. Would take again.
A very easy class pending you read and take a few notes here and there. Teacher always responded quickly and with clarity when I had any questions. There are 10 quizzes, 4 short essays, 3 discussions.I would reccommend this class to anyone.
Found the textbook she gave us AS WELL as the lectures to be incredibly outdated and biased. That being said, this class was way too easy for a 300 level course. Easy A if you want the SB credit, but do not take if you want to learn something.
I will agree the readings are not dispersed well. Towards the end the load gets to be a bit insane. Curriculum could be updated so the last three subjects aren't crammed into one week each. Over-all not a difficult course but can get a little subjective. Tests ask questions with very similar answer options. "Choose the best" can be a bit subjective
I took the 7.5 week online course. Lots of reading, 40 question exam every other week and a 10 question quiz every other week. If you are interested in the subject and do the reading, you'll get an A.
Pretty easy course, there is a lot of reading but it's manageable. Test questions and answers can be worded a little funny and might be a bit confusing, but overall a fairly easy course to take.
Not very difficult at all. Put in some effort and there is no doubt you can easily get a high grade. The reading isn't that bad, just learn how to scan and pull information and questions from the text. Also, I never had a problem with unusual test questions. She is also very into participating with the students. Good class
Easy class! I took the online 7.5 week course. There were a couple of quizzes(with multiple attempts), 2 writing assignments(2pg & you choose which week to do them), and 3 exams(hard-textbook based). Downside is a lot of reading, but it's somewhat interesting. Would recommend!
OK overall this class was interesting. However, you have to keep in mind that most of the discussion boards are based on what you read in the text. 3 Exams and 3 Quizes. She grades fairly but her major concern is that you dont get off topic at all. The only thing that i hated about the course is that she takes a while until she post the grades
There are 3 quizzes and 3 exams. The quizzes can be taken multiple times until you receive 100%. Multiple choice exams-40 questions 2 hrs. 5 DBs that must be between 2-3 paragraphs. There is a lot of material to read, 2 chapters per week. VERY slow grader. Exams need to be graded even though they are multiple choice. Dont know grade for several days.
I love Dr Schatzman's classes. This is the second one i have taken with her, and she is just really smart, ready to help, and very, very constructive. I hope she has some courses available in grad school.
2 exams, 2 quizzes, and 2 assignments, which were basically just short answer assignments. This class is a MUST TAKE if you need a POS upper division elective. The two exams make up 70% of your final grade, but little to no prep was involved. This course would be good to pair with heavy duty classes like POS 301 or 401.
Extreme amounts of reading (at least 100 pages a week) and test questions are far too detailed. For example a test question may be a random sentence from a random paragraph in the middle of the 100+ pages of reading. DO NOT take this class if you plan to take another 3 classes during the semester otherwise an A will be extremely difficult.
This class is interesting and easy. The lectures are not necessary if you can retain information from the readings. The books are well written and informative. The videos and articles are interesting and follow current political trendsmodels. Tests cover material straight from the book.
Easy A! Lots of enjoyable reading. 5 one page writing assignments, plus 3 exams and 3 quizzes (which you can retake multiple times!) Overall, great teacher. Articles, lectures, and videos were extremely organized.
Interesting course material but very intensive. I took the 7 wk online course on top of 4 other courses and I really struggled to keep up. Approx 100 pages of reading a week. DO NOT TAKE IF YOUR SCHEDULE IS ALREADY HEAVY OR BE PREPARED FOR ALL-NIGHTERS. 3 exams worth 75% of your grade, the rest are 3 quizzes (25%) and 5 writing assignments (10%).
The class is very doable and the test are not difficult. All of the reading is not really necessary. Lectures were easy to follow. However, she is very unreachable and never replied to any of my emails.
Interesting and enjoyable class and instructor. The topic of foreign aid was comprehensively covered and I learned a lot. 2 two-page papers and larger Unit exam every other week. She's willing to be flexible with exam due dates for students who work. Didn't feel overwhelmed by assignments at all. Would definitely recommend taking class.
Class was fun and well organized. Quizzes were fair along with writing assignments. Graded more off your content than formatting. Only unfortunate thing is she doesn't offer extra credit. There's lots of reading, and videos so be prepared to hunker down. I Would have her as a professor again.
POS300 goes through a lot of content, while I learned a ton, the reading load was intense, even for a 7-week course. You have to be alert and likely won't waltz to an A without reading. Quizzes, however can be taken multiple times, and the Writing Assignments were a total joke. Not a bad class, but there are easier ones to choose from.
A ton of reading. Do not take this class unless you are prepared to read. The papers were were actually fun to write (2 papers, 2 pages each), 3 difficult exams for which you MUST read the content to get a good grade, easy quizzes. She is helpful though you may have to wait a couple days to get a response via email. Discussion board was interactive
I took this class as a session A and it was pretty easy. Make sure you take notes on the video lectures because they will help. I never read the book but did use it to take the tests. There are three papers to complete. Not a bad class to take if you like politics.
I took this class along with her POS 260 class, and both were online. I did not have trouble with either one, and I found them pretty easy. The questions on the quizzes are recycled for the test, so pay attention. The quizzes can be taken multiple times and the writing assignments are a breeze. You must read though, that is very important.
I loved this course and the subject matter. There is no traditional textbook, but rather four non-fiction texts covering differing points of view on aid to lesser developed nations. There is a lot to read each week, but the reading is captivating. For the size of class, Dr. Schatzman is responsive and clearly into the subject. Great class.
Unlike many other classes, this class requires you to actually read. To me that's not a bad thing and I found the course material interesting. The professor is responsive and organizes the class well so you understand exactly what needs to be completed by when. I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you don't like to read.
One of my favorite online classes. BB organization is good and her weekly lectures are excellent! She is articulate and a joy to listen to. The material is straight forward and easy to assimilate.
Prof Schatzman made both classes 100% clear, 2-3 test, and 3-4 quizzes. With POS350 there was discussion boards every week, but they were super easy to keep up with. She is absolutely amazing at what she does, definitely my favorite professor at ASU. She really cares for her students and is super understanding.
Interesting and easy course. Two research papers, which are graded fairly. three quizzes, five percent each, you can repeat them as much as you want until you get a full grade. The professor explains the material clearly, but the reading are a most. Overall, great course.
The class setup was extremely easy to follow, there were clear deadlines and assignment guidelines. The work wasn't too overwhelming even though it was an accelerated 7 week class. The instructor graded fairly, great experience. Tests were open-book, open-note so as long as you're a little organized you should get an A or B.
Dr. Schatzman is not present in discussions at all. There is zero interaction with her. Emails are not promptly answered, which is difficult in an online course. The tests are written with ambiguous answers. I would not take a class from her again. I found it tedious and quite boring. If you happen to live overseas, she will gush over you.
Prof. Schatzman does an excellent job of making online classes manageable. I have taken her condensed and full-semester courses, and I will continue to do so. She is a very fair grader (quizzes repeatable to earn 100%) and provides excellent review of the text in short, articulate lectures. Additional material (articles/films) is always engaging.
I've taken econ previously, so a lot of these concepts were review, but I still learned a lot about IPE. The lectures were engaging and not too long, and the quizzes/homework were quite straightforward. Watch the lectures and you'll be fine. She is very organized, and this class was a pleasure to take. I would definitely recommend Dr. Schatzman!
I have taken 5 courses with her and they have all been excellent! Thought provoking and interesting. Do not take her courses if political science, particularly international issues, is not of interest to you.
Do all the discussion boards even though she lets you skip one, and she will notice. Her lectures are long, but she uses real-world videos that are applicable and sometimes interesting. Her multiple choice tests are difficult, but not impossible. Be sure to read as questions often come from the articles or videos she posts. Good class overall.
I truly loved this class. The beauty of online classes is managing your own schedule and this class's schedule is super straightforward. Your grade depends only on 2 quizzes, 2 assignments, the midterm, and the final - no busywork. Lectures cover textbook; no need to buy it. TIP: focus on your notetaking; my notes are the only reason I passed!
Lots of reading, get ebooks. Tests are open note so you can easily search for key works in books. Content of class is super interesting though, I enjoyed reading all the material. Quizzes have unlimited attempts (free points). Discussion posts are simple just relate to class content. Easy A.
Excellent online professor. Expectations are clear and established well ahead of time. Never had a problem reaching her for a question and grades were posted quickly. Strong recommend for online students.
Really good professor for those who are interested in international relations, econ., or politics. I took POS 300 and 486. She is a hard grader but if you read EVERYTHING you should easily get an A. Don't skip the reading because you will fail. If you are struggling reach out through office hours.
Flexible professor. There are not many items that are graded, so one bad grade can really harm your overall grade. This class will definitely be tough if you don't read everything assigned and watch all of the extra videos. Learned a lot- very interesting.
I literally had to look up her name in order to write this review. Very rarely present in anything, and her TA's aren't much better (I'm not even sure if there are TA's, actually) Interesting class, poor communication with students.
Graded by 7 DB posts, 3 exams and a few quizzes (you can take the quizzes an infinate amount of times till the deadline). Person before me was right with the communication part, as there wasn't many announcemnets and interaction with her
There were 3 quizzes that makes up 30% of your grade, though we can take them as many times as you want till you get a 100% She basically gives you a free 30% of the bat. Plus 7 questions from the quizzes were also on the midterm, word for word. There is a lot of reading, but you can skim as the questions are not that hard. 3hours a week is enough
I took several classes from this Schatzman and really liked them. She had clear standards and due dates for students, is organized and she or her TA will respond quickly to email. I always got As or Bs in her classes.
Clear grading. If you like the subject or at least are interested, you can get an A pretty easily. She's a pretty good model for what politics classes should be. She could be more interactive and provide more feedback, however.
Excellent political science professor and would absolutely take again. Schatzman is very understanding and looks for a good effort in her class. As long as you do the work she's very caring and wants you to succeed.
Very few assignments which are easy if you read the book, powerpoints, and watch the lectures. The problem was there was so much reading and it was hard to tell what was going to be on the exams. This is not an easy class!
There is a lot of reading but the homework and weekly assignments are pretty easy. However you must get a good grade on exams they are basically your final grade. Test are open note, however, make sure you take notes on articles. She askesd specifics questions from articles on exams.
Didn't read a single page and still got A's on both exams which are open book and easy to complete if you have the ebook version of the textbook. Beware that the 5pt assignments are worth 10% of your grade.
She is really tough on the quiz and exams. Even after all the ready exams were difficult. Several people fail first exam. Several had to Withdraw. Be prepared to work hard for a low grade. I wouldn't take a course from her again.
great class be sure read al the material, write notes in your own words and you'll be ready for exams.
Easy class ... Easy lectures just one thing tough tests
It's just very dry for me. There are a lot of readings, which for me I couldn't get into the textbook, and the lectures were dry as well. I haven't had any bad interactions with her, I just had a hard time in her class because you have to be interested in learning this material to do good. Probably one of the harder classes I've taken.
Overall, Dr. Schatzman was a fantastic professor. The course follows the syllabus which is laid our clearly. She provided excellent lectures that really help re-enforce the reading. There is a ton of reading. The only issue I had with this course was that the third (final) exam was significantly harder than the first two.
I am a very detail oriented person who takes thorough notes and watched all required lectures/read required material, and still was unsuccessful in receiving an A. For not being an upper division course and being a political science major the grading in this class is UNNECESSARILY difficult. Be prepared to study with no pay off.
I really enjoyed her class, this semster was on oil and politics. Since the pandemic, we witnessed the fall of oil and this class came in perfect timing so we all witnessed a historical moment for all parts of the world. She is a fair grader, just read all the assinged readings and study hard for the exams.
There is a lot of reading, but the grading is clearly laid out and the tests are not hard as long as you watch/listen to the lectures and do the reading. I found Dr. Schatzman to be very responsive and fair. I would take another class of hers again should the opportunity arise. Learned a great deal in this class!
I took POS 260 online and it was the easiest class ever. Easy A, if you do not get an A in this course then the issue is you and not the professor.
Literally all you do is discussions, take a quiz based on the slides and an exam. If you read, watch the slides, you will pass the exam. Her exams are pretty easy and straightforward, and you get a lot of time, more than you need to complete an exam
This class and Dr. Schatzman are great. The class itself was super easy. The readings she assigns are all pretty short and really interesting. I have never ever watched power points for online courses, yet in her class, I actually looked forward to watching them! Everything is due on sundays and notices for exams given well ahead of time.
Shes a great professor! I took POS350 and it was pretty easy. We were graded by like 3 quizzes, 3 exams and a discussion board every week. Quizzes were able to be retaken as many times before the deadline! Discussion boards are also easy. Only hard thing is the exams, but if you have done the readings and lectures youll for sure pass!
Dr. Schatzman is plagued by unfortunately a very boring subject to teach. Her lectures are difficult to listen to and she certainly tries to make the subject interesting, however it is just so boring. Her TA does most of the grading and takes weeks to grade. I have a 4.0 and this is my final semester and I fear this is what will tank my GPA.
Prof. Schatzman is one of my favorite political science professors Ive taken at ASU, she honestly made comparative politics very interesting and they discussion board (theres 6 but only 5 are mandatory) prompts were challenging but not impossible. Her voice is nice to listen to for the lectures and the quizzes and exams are open note & open book.
The first half I had a 100% bc I was doing all the work + readings. But I bombed 1st exam. Class average was 75% for it, 60% of students getting a C or lower. My grade went down to 75% with no way to get an A now bc we only have 2 quizzes + 2 exams, the DBs are worth only 12 points. She also changed unlimited tries for quiz 2 last minute too :/
Prof. Schatzman's class is a typical online course - read, lecture, DB, exam, repeat. Exams are 75% of your grade, and there are no papers. The lectures basically repeat the textbook. The discussion board prompts were interesting, and she included related current events articles in the modules. Still, it is not a particularly engaging course.
There are weekly discussion posts, which I felt like should take up more % of the total grade. Then there are 2 quizzes and 2 exams. Her grading criteria isn't clear for the discussion posts so I lost points. Her exams are tricky. I felt like I learned more from the disc. posts than I did from the exams, which take up most of the total % of grade.
Here's the thing, Dr. Schatzman was excellent in communication and was clear about the grading structure. I went in to the class with an A and left with one too BUT don't let the DB's fool you. They're easy but the exams are HARD. I bombed the first but really worked hard on the second and passed. So, study and you'll pass, that's it. I recommend!
There are 3 writing assignments, 3 tests, and 2 quizzes. There is no extra credit available. You must read the books and articles as the majority of questions are derived from these sources. Questions make you think and are not specific word-for-word out of the textbooks. Not a whole lot of grades and each test (3) is worth 25%.
Professor Schatzman is a good professor; however, this class had discussions that were challenging and only worth up to points, second we had 2 quizzes and two exams, no room to fail an exam that is worth 30 points. I found the class to be difficult and wish we had 3 exams instead of 2 like other classes. She is fair and will honestly try to help.
Dr Schatzman is a great instructor. I enjoyed her class and it was very interesting. She gives excellent feedback and is accessible. The group project will be difficult if you have group members who are unwilling or unable to participate in the process. It is 25% of your grade. It will also benefit you to have a strong statistics background.
Its nearly impossible to get an a on any assignment. Would even send her my assignments before submitting for grading and she said they were perfect and then still didnt give me an A Hard grader. And hard to please
Tells you that you are doing fantastic, but you'll never get an A. Won't give any advice or help. Everyone in my class, MINUS one person, got C's and D's on both exams.
terrible. worst teacher I have ever had. does not care about students in the slightest
Unfair professor. Does not care about students at all. Tests are extremely hard. Prefers to fail students than pass them
Overall, I did not like this class. You are graded on 5 voice threads, 2 writing assignments, 2 quizzes, midterm, and final. The tests are difficult and she takes forever to grade. Rarely gives feedback on work. If you put in the work you can get an A, but she is difficult to get ahold of and feels absent from the course.
Took her 5 weeks to grade our first assignments. The final counted for 30% of grade and 38% of the entire class got D's or F's on it. No curve given. The questions were difficult and I felt most had more than one right answer. Professor missed scheduled office hours and didn't respond to emails - very poor communication with the class
Very average 300-level class. You don't need to cover all the assigned learning materials. The textbook is referenced often, but I only actually opened it a few times. There are 5 discussions, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams (all multiple choice). Each exam is worth 25% of your grade but contains some reused questions you can go back and look at.
This course is heavy on reading, but not EXTREMELY detail-oriented. Grade is based off of 5 reading discussions (but really 6 - this docked me a lot of points - syllabus is confusing on this - READ IT CAREFULLY), 3 quizzes, and 3 exams. Quizzes can be retaken indefinitely, some exams questions are pretty difficult to follow.
Did not receive any grades until 3 days before the deadline. Assignment instructions are very confusing and hard to follow. The subject is confusing on its own and the professor provides little help.
I have never written a review on here before, but this is the worst professor and class I have ever had. All of the assignments were based off of each other but none of them were graded until after the final. All the instructions for the assignments were extremely difficult to understand and not written clearly at all.
Very strict grader, do not even try to copy and paste answers you will get singled out on and caught for plagiarism. Tests are very hard and the lectures do not even prepare you.
There are very clear guidelines here: one discussion post and one quiz per week with the exception of 3 exams blended in. The exams are each 20% of your final grade and you have the option to drop on of the grades in exchange for a heavier weight on the other two. Very simple and interesting lectures, articles and concepts. It is very manageable.
The professor in this class gives very difficult exams for no reason at all. The questions are outrageous and some is not even helpful even if you studied. She unnecessarily takes pride in giving ruthless exams rather than helping the students excel she rather you sit in misery.
One discussion a week & one quiz every other week. Tests are material-heavy & are super specific. I would recommend putting all of the learning materials into one document and referring to it for the open-book exams. I would also somewhat familiarize myself with the content before starting the test. Some quiz Q's are on the tests so reference back.
Professor rarely answered emails on time, was not clear on requirements for coursework, did not finish posting grades until the end of the semester so we did not have access to our work to look at for prepping for the final. She was absent from class discussion board and most of our questions were left unanswered. How does she get paid for this??
The professor was not visible in the class at all. She rarely answered DB questions. I even tried email after posting on DB without receiving a response, and still nothing. Grades were done late so it was hard to gauge where you stood.
Took online as a shortened course, and honestly the people complaining about the class just don't care. A lot of the reviews say "if you like the content its fine" but i probably spend like 2-3 hours a week on the class its not bad. And I don't even like the content. Good for gen ed if your good at pressing ctrl+f and bsing on discussions.
Took the accelerated course. The discussions and YellowDig were great. The exams and quizzes are easy but do not expect to have an updated grade at any point. We had 6 discussions and only 2 have been graded as of finals week. She doesnt answer emails either. Class is decent but the Prof. was absent.
Dr. Schatzman was a fairly good professor! I would not say that she was absent, as she was active in announcements on Canvas. The class was relevant and easy but became difficult during the three exams, so I encourage you to review the materials beforehand. My only complaint was the Yellowdig requirement, as it often felt like busy work.
No papers. Grades are given by open exams, open quizzes and discussion boards. Yellowdig extra discussions for extra credit which is nice. very limited extra credit other than the yellowdig discussions
The class has open exams and quizzes, with helpful Yellowdig discussions for extra credit. unstuck study and ChatGPT were great for prepping. Exams can be challenging, so stay on top of the material.
The class was actually very interesting because the material was articles on events that took place within the time frame of the class. The textbook is really boring and difficult to get through. Her quizzes were really easy and exams were fairly simple as well, basic reading comprehension questions. Picky on discussion boards so be thorough.
Do not take this class if you don't have to.
She marked me as a late submission for a project which was not late, and was never responsive to any emails. She also never graded our work throughout the course, so when it came to the final project (which she gave us 3 days to do) no one knew how to base it off previous work. Avoid - workload heavy, lazy professor.
For every article given, questions will be on the quiz. Read them ALL. She didn't respond to our emails. Her TA wanted us to respond his way or else he'd grade you down vs the syllabus. You can't see what you missed on the quizzes, but if you complain enough in the community forum, she will drop stats of student's test grades.
AWFUL! Don't take her unless it is the last option. Grades on the last week, not according to the assigned group, never answers emails, boring online class. Even an online course is hard for her-which is nonsense, lazy professor, did not get the point of this class and don't expect any good comments from her, she is rude. Awful. class.
very interesting class
The class itself wasn't hard. It was 6 online discussions through voicethread, online quizzes, and three exams, and while they are lockdown browser exams, there is no camera. What I cant stand was the lack of communication. She never responded to emails. She didn't grade until the last week. Her syllabus is contradictory/out of date. What a pain.
