No complaints. I like that she knows we don't all adore earth science, yet tries to keep us interested. Don't miss class though. Each class is worth 25 points of lab work... And don't be late with Starbucks in your hand.... fastest way to piss her off. Do the extra credit too; it'll save your ass . I wish I had taken her for lecture too.
amazing prof!! She loves to joke around with us, super easy going but do your work to pass. don't skip class because you cant make up labs!! many extra credit opportunities on each exam. fun class!
There are a lot of notes during the lectures, but she's very good with answering questions. The tests are a little stressful but she gives really good study guides and a lot of extra credit opportunities! I enjoyed her a lot!
Textbook NOT NEEDED. Everything is in her lectures. 4 tests, she drops the lowest grade. Requires studying of notes outside of class. About 10 online homework assignments, and answers are online. She is really nice and makes the class easy. I recommend a study group, because at first I didn't understand everything. Nice, easy, but long lectures.
Very organized! Exams are super simple if you do the study guide and actually study it, she also drops the lowest exam! She offers a BUNCH of extra credit! I strongly recommend her, and also form a reliable study group! It will definitely help. Unlike any professor I had before, her study guides go along with her lectures. Textbook not necessary!
Really good professor, I highly recommend. Her lectures are really clear/easy to understand. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Important to come to class and take good notes because her exams are based mostly on lectures and in-class activities. She's is super passionate about geology and, as a result, makes lectures more interesting.
Great professor! she offers a bunch of extra credit and also extra credit questions on her tests. Extra credit queen. Awesome, and down to earth
She is a really fun teacher. All her tests are based on her lectures so you don't really need the book. She gives TONS of extra credit and gives some in class assignments.
Easy class. She overloads you with info you don't need. You don't need to buy the book. Use the study guide, do the extra credit, and show up to class and there's no reason you shouldn't get an A in this class
I went in to her Oceanography class 2 weeks in and I had no problem catching up. The content of the lectures are very interesting, and she is very interactive. If your looking for a simple upper division, and B requirement class this is the one for you. Dont buy the book, she knows no one is going to read it.
This is a really easy course. As long as you complete all the assignments she gives including the countless extra credit assignments you should do good. As for tests she has 4 throughout the year and are really easy if you study the study guide, plus she lets you use a notecard during the exam sometimes which of course is helpful. P
I had Stout at one of my toughest semester's and she was really straight forward and an easy professor to work with. Homework and Reading Guides are very straight forward. Provides very straight forward study guides for tests and is good with office hours. 4 (EASY) tests and one optional cumulative final, no quizzes. Textbook only for RG's.
Professor Stout has to be one of the most lenient professor at the campus. She offers plenty of extra credit. Every lecture is posted on blackboard and most of the exam questions are from the book & online powerpoints. She makes the lectures very fun because of her great personality. I would take her again if only she teaches my major courses!
Great professor. She understands that the people who take her class are just here for the GE requirement so she doesn't make the class difficult. Anytime I needed help she was very responsive in her emails and was helpful during her office hours. and shes pretty funny. Study guides are like the test so don't buy the textbook. highly recommend!
Prof Stout is a great professor, but I dont agree with people who said this class was super easy, this class consist of alot of work, and in order to pass the test you HAVE to do the study guide (which are lengthy). Alot of extra credit is offered (DO ALL IT HELPS ALOT), and dont miss class because she randomly gives activities which are worth alot
I would take her again in a heartbeat she is truly an amazing professor. She offers a lot of extra credit and lets you use note cards on the tests. She makes the information fun and easy for non science majors. I loved every second of her class and she brought a smile to my face every class. There's 4 tests and homework, show up and you'll pass.
She hands out assignments in class that you can't make up for if you're not there, she is a little sassy if someone tries to ask a question about the lecture, she answers the question and makes you look dumb as if you should've already known the answer. Make sure to take notes during class because the slides don't really have much information.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you skip the class, you won't pass. You need to be there for lectures to get the notes. She is extremely caring and will help you if you find yourself in an emergency situation. She makes the lectures hilarious and makes you want to be in class and learning.
Loved this class!! Professor Stout has been my favorite professor thus far. She's so clear in her lectures and posts her slides online, you have to come to class though because she adds additional notes. Her tests are straight forward, very clear study guides. Her humor definitely made learning about geology a lot more fun.
Truly a great professor. But a tough class. If you don't go to class you won't pas. Have to really study for the exams, thats mainly what your grade relies on.
Professor Stout is a GREAT professor. She teaches the material very well, making information easy to understand. Although it was a lecture class, you really had to be there most of the time for some lecture notes not available online and in class assignments.
Sometimes she gives additional notes, so attendance helps. Posts lectures online. Textbook is optional. Gives unlimited time for online assignment (not unlimited tries). Exams are easy, just study the slides and notes. No midterm and the final (cumulative) is optional if you want to replace/make-up an exam. 4 Exams total (excluding final)
If you go to class you will pass easily, she gives study guides for all the exams and all the answers are in the notes and powerpoint's. She tells you on the first day that if you take good notes you won't need the textbook which is true i didn't buy it and didn't need it.
Entertaining, fair, informative, easy, flexible. As long as you watch the lectures, do the homework, and take notes you will get an A. None of the coursework is particularly hard, it just needs to be done.
This class was very good overall. It was easy, and the teacher was nice and caring the strong majority of the time. I would take other classes with her any day.
She seems like a nice teacher, but sometimes makes comments that makes you feel like an idiot. Test are very detailed and kinda hard. This was the class I put my most afford in and still was pretty hard. Got an A, but you had to work for it. Gives a lot of extra credit, so that can save a lot of people. Funny women though.
Geology 7 is an easy course if you put the effort in. Attendance is not mandatory, but it really helps (sometimes there is in-class assignments that she won't let you make up if you were absent). She lectures the whole time, but she keeps it very interesting and fun. She cracks a lot of jokes and is easy going if you show her respect.
I do not recommend her. Every five seconds, she asks the students if they have any questions, which becomes repetitive. However, when someone does have a question, she speaks to them as if they are stupid and makes them feel bad for asking the question. I have never witnessed a professor speak to her students in such a harsh and rude manner.
she says attendance is not mandatory, but gives in class assignments for points to get you to come to class, theres at least 4 LONG study guides to memorize for each test and there are 5 total. she can be very rude but also nice at times. overall this is not an easy class, don't expect an easy A especially if you're only taking it for GE like me :(
This is an easy class. However, I have never had such a rude professor in my life. She constantly calls out students and ridicules them in front of the whole class for minor things. If she sees you texting, if you leave early, if you are late, or if you go up to grab graded work after she has started talking, get ready to be publicly humiliated.
She does this thing where she asks if anyone has any questions or needs anything repeated then proceeds to make you feel bad for asking. She gets annoyed over the most ridiculous things. I would have loved to have felt comfortable enough to participate in class because the actual course material was quite interesting.
Honestly, the class was okay. Not the best, but not the worst. The only improvement would be of the instructor itself. She is rude and disrespectful to the students questions and views. She expect everything to be like how she wants it to be. She says a lot of things where she should have thought of before saying. I am glad that class is over now!!
She's a really good teacher, but class difficulty is on you. She gives you everything you need to know in the lectures. Don't do things last minute and email her cause she'll say that's not my fault. Do study guides and get a study group! I had one and we studied right before. She posts lectures and gives extra credit. Doesn't like phones out.
The class is based off on 4 exams and a cumulative which is optional if you taken all the other exams. Highly recommend to go to class even if you are enroll in the online section. Just treat this class as a normal class which she clearly states since the beginning of the semester. Her test are not hard if you actually don't procrastinate.
Professor Stout has a very strong personality that can rub people the wrong way. But she is a caring professor and wants to see her students pass. If you're struggling and feel kinda intimidated by her, email her with your q's. She is very informative and will tell you exactly what you need to know for the tests or direct you to the exact lec. ppt.
Easy class if you show up and study. 3 tests and in class assignments. If you miss class you miss a lot of information but it was enjoyable. She's funny sometimes and tries to make you enjoy the subject! Taking her for Oceanography in Fall!
This class is super easy as long as you do the study guides for the exams! Super straight forward. It was a cool class ! Put in the work and you should be good!
Shes an okay professor. Tried to get help during her office hours and she was irritated and light weight rude. Kinda made me feel dumb, But class is easy if you show up and do notes. Study for the exams and beware of in class assignments and extra credit.
Her hybrid class is great, you can watch the lectures over and over again. 4 exams and an online (optional) final. Not a lot of homework assignments but if you just watch the lectures on line you have to keep up with the in class assignments. Plenty of extra credit opportunities! Great teacher, highly recommend !
Professor Stout is awesome! Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's good to go because she covers a lot of info fast. This class is the usual, kinda hard, but if you pay attention and do the study guides before tests, the class will be a breeze. She's kind of a bad ass too. I totally respect her.
Christina Stout is an AMAZING professor! Really passionate about her subject, gives many opportunities to boost your grade, doesn't test you on things she didn't cover. Everything is accessible on SacCT (lectures, study guides, etc.) Some in class assignments; 4 exams; Exam 4 is mandatory, and a 5th optional cumulative online. Easy A if you study.
Show up to class and take good notes because her test are straight from her notes. She does a really good job at helping understand the subject, its an interesting class. Theres about 4 Exams and an optional final. She offers a few extra credit opportunities before and during the tests so make sure you read the directions. Rare hw assignments.
This class was easy as long as you put in the effort. Does not take attendance, but there are in class assignments on some days. Always asks if anyone has questions. Mostly everything off the slides, and clear study guides, combine those two and you got yourself a good grade. Took this as an upper division elective, it was fun and I learned a lot.
LOVED. Just 4 exams and an optional cumulative final that replaces an exam not taken or to replace a bad grade on an exam. LOTS of EC opportunities. To sum up, I loved this class because of Professor Stout, she makes geology fun and exiting. she is always prepared.
Easy class and great professor! Random in-class assignments, a few homework assignments, 4 Exams and an optional cumulative final that makes up your lowest exam score. Stout is very passionate about what she teaches and makes Geology interesting. Highly recommend!
4 in-class exams plus optional, cumulative, online final. In-class assignments some days. Passive-aggressive towards the end of the semester. Lectures are straightforward and she also gives out some extra credit. Also gave us 4 homework assignments that were easy. No book - I got the book which just sat at my desk the whole semester, unopened.
Favorite professor ever. She's super passionate and excited it gets you excited. She really tries hard to break everything down and simplify it for those who struggle with science. She doesn't test on anything she doesn't cover in class. In-class assignments due next class to cover the material she taught to help us fully understand the subject.
She would be a perfect high school teacher. Lots of worksheets to do in class and her exams are not easy. Doesn't take attendance but you have to show up incase there is in class worksheet.
Class is hard so be aware, gotta study a lot to pass and her homework is so hard like you would hate the class. I would rather drop out than take her again LOL
She's cool for loving what she teaches ,but her lectures are long. Reads off of her slides but also gives you information if you only show up to class so not all information is on slides. Random in class worksheets are given on random days. Lots of small homework, but easy. Gives study guides for exams so do them and you'll be fine.
Not an easy class at all. It's more like a major class not GE! Lots of hwk and studying to do. Have fun!
lectures are long and boring. She gets pissed quickly and makes fun of students and try to embarrass them. She asks if anyone has a question to ask and when they do she doesn't know the answer!!
Please avoid and dont waste your time with her!
She gets pissed easily and then start complaining it's like she is teaching for free. I wonder who wrote the good reviews because she is no where near that!
Do not take Stout. She is extremely rude and disrespectful towards students. She assigns work and then complains to the class about the workload she has. The course would be fine if her attitude changed. We are treated like elementary school students and it is extremely inappropriate.
Don't take her unless you are a geology major because she is really hard and she keeps complaint about how everyone is stupid.
I enjoyed this class. She gives in class assignments sometimes and online reading HW, and regular HW. The exams aren't that hard, she provides a study guide that helps out a lot. Theres 4 exams and a cumulative final, but the final is optional ( if you want a bad exam grade replaced). Make sure to no be late, she gets mad when ppl come in late!
Was really excited about this class. Felt it would be good, until about half way into the class and.... then she turns into political. Next class and.... turns political again. We're here for earth science. Get over your illness and just teach earth science..
Loved professor Stout. Not a Geo major but she made me want to be. Sarcastic and hilarious, when your not the butt of her jokes and call outs. Content was very difficult, but If you show up take good notes, and study you will pass. Drops lowest exam grade and allows a group cumulative exam, with 1 flashcard per member after final exam.
Very good prof. She gave a lot of extra credit,4 tests and final that were all based on lectures and readings. Gives study guides which are the test questions. Very funny and chill. Young. Obsessed with rocks. Hw is fill in the blank ws. Watch a lot of videos during class. Grades very fast. 10/10.
I took her class last semester and for some reason my reviews get pulled down, anyways she talked down to us unless you was a teacher's pet, I passed but she made life worse, avoid
Class is all lecture, could pass w/out attending, posts lectures online. All Hw is online reading assignments (good amount). 4 tests, some in class assignments (only reason to go to class). Gives a lot of extra credit that goes towards the assignments you don't do. EC on tests as well. Study guides also posted. Strict phone policy. can be demeaning
I love the class. It is somewhat hard but amazing class.
an amazing teacher!
I am a transfer student and this was my first semester at Sac State and I have to admit she was very intimidating at first but as the weeks passed I realized she just really cares. If you do the work you will do fine.
She is a well organized professor. Hardly makes any mistakes and is very straight forward. This class is not super hard if you complete all the homework you should be fine. She gives lots of opportunities for extra credit which is nice.
took her last semester but my reviews keep getting removed. all i want is students to know to avoid her at all costs, I managed to get an A but it was an awful class.
every time i had her class i considered dropping out of college.
This was my first year in college so I was super nervous. However, Stout was so sweet. She always emails back and can help outside of class. HW is reading with online quizzes. Her tests are exactly like the study guides! There are 4 tests and you can drop one of them but not the final.
Honestly, this is one of the easiest science classes on Sac State. Just do the study guides (which pretty much are the tests) and you should have no problem at all getting a good grade in the class. Provided study guides, lectures, and extra credit right at the beginning of each unit, which was really helpful. Also gave out A LOT of extra credit.
Gives extra credit that raise you up half a letter grade, study guides are the same as the test but its almost of material to learn, extra credit saves my grade
Exams same as study guide. Reading assignments as HW that are easy. Offers lots of EC to help improve grade. Professor herself is rude & makes excuses for late grades. Doesnt calculate grades with EC until last week of semester so she tells you to calculate your grade yourself if you want to know. I had the hybrid class so it wasnt hard.
She is a hella good teacher. I dont come to the class a lot, yet I am doing okay. Make sure that you do all the homework online, it is fairly easy. She offers hella extra credit and she is hella funny. Also, she is a Marvel fan
Really cares for her students, but gets mad and puts anger out on class sometimes. 3 exams (drops lowest score) & final exam. No textbook, and gives LOTS of extra credit. MAKE SURE TO DO ALL EXTRA CREDITS.. doesn't post grades directly onto canvas, but instead puts it into file w/ volcano name and puts that file onto canvas, which is confusing..
Took Professor Stout for GEOL 8, it was a pretty clear class. Lectures are available online, sometimes was given in-class assignments, and there was weekly work/quizzes assigned online through canvas. The subject itself isn't the most interesting, but she does a good job of showing passion for the subject. Lots of EC and the study guide is KEY!
Professor Stout is a very good instructor. Very knowledgeable and very fair. There is alot of HW, but alot of extra credit. Tests are not that difficult and one is dropped. Do your work, take the tests and you will pass the class. Lecture heavy but it was interesting.
I loved her as a professor! Her lectures are interesting and she really cares about her students. She gives out a lot of extra credit, so make sure to do it. She is passionate about her job, and it really shows. There are 4 exams in total, and she drops one.
Lots of extra credit. There is no textbook required so you save money. All of the things tested are on her slides which are posted online and overall she is a pretty awesome professor. Your grade should be fine as long as you turn everything in on time. She also drops the lowest exam score at the end of the semester.
She gives a bunch of extra credit. Our class ended up have over 100 extra credit points. The textbook was included into fees so technically it was "free" and most of the extra credit was through book assignments. 3 exams (dropped lowest) & final. There are in class assignments. Complete all your work, turn it in on time, do EC & you'll be fine.
Interesting class, she gives LOTS of extra credit and submits it at the end of the semester. Three exams (Lowest score gets dropped) and final exam. She does a lot of in-class assignments. She can be strict at times and will call you out if you're leaving early and didn't email her ahead. The textbook is on canvas with a $ fee in the student center
Great professor! 3 exams (drops lowest grade of the 3) & a non-cumulative final. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Entertaining lectures & easy to reach outside of class. Truly loves her field & it shows in her lectures. Always willing to answer questions or find time to help you. She also taught my GEOL8 class. I HIGHLY recommend this professor.
She is MY FAVORITE TEACHER EVER! I have taken her for GEOL 8, 8L, and 130 and was the top scorer in both. I will take her whenever possible in the future. She treats you like an adult and gives you straight forward instructions. I love how passionate she is about her lectures and she is a very reasonable person. Please, please take her! #noragrets
Overall, she's a very passionate professor. But can get a little sassy when someone leaves early, has to answer the same question multiple times, and if don't engage. She does play favorites especially with the know it all students. Offers a lot of extra credit which is good. Easy class just lots of information, gotta try for the Aim, easy C or B.
Her lectures are very interesting. She puts a lot of time and effort into helping the students understand the material. She always answer everyone's questions. I would love to take her class again.
This professor was terrible, there were a lot of assignments but very little instructions. A lot of her assignments did not make sense, and she gave no feedback on what was incorrect for future learning. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I took Stout for a GE course and she was AWESOME. She makes class really entertaining, gives TONS of extra credit, and easy assignments. Most assignments are based off slides and videos. We had a few exams, but she gives you a study guide. They're easy if you prep for them! She was also very lenient and helpful as we adapted to corona class changes
This class was online due to COVID, and she is by far one of the worst Professors Ive ever taken. She was very rude during email correspondence, and never had clear instructions for her assignments. She was a very tough grader and never gave any feedback. The final was 117 questions with the last 20 have 5 parts and only 140 minutes to take it
It's so hard to pass her quizzes because every question is a trick question. She's such a tough grader. Even if your answer is right, she will mark you wrong because its not what she wanted. She takes a while to email back but when she does she is a little rude. I do not recommend taking her class.
Its only 1 unit class and she gives more work than my 3 unit classes. She gives us an exam and a pre lab quiz in the same day. She doesnt understand that we have other classes. Shes taking advantage that classes are online but it adds more stress to us students having to do so much in one day. Shes unreasonable I do not recommend taking her.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She's a tough grader and has favorties... yes even over online class! Her instructions are not clear and shes unhelpful. She's really rude and when you dont understand the material, she will get impatient with you.
Her tests are really hard and if you don't study, you won't pass! She's really slow at responding back to emails (in my experience) and she is only useful and helpful when she wants to be. She's a tough grader and her lab instructions dont make sense. She told my group that she "doesn't make her own lab modules" she gets them from other professors.
Christina is not just a tough grader, but a very peculiar one as well. If you do not word your answers perfectly to her standards, you will be marked down. She is very rude to students and openly tells students if they are on her "good side". She blames students for her problems and does not realize they probably stem from her frantic nature.
I really enjoyed Professor Stout's Geology 8 class. Her lectures were to the point and easy to follow. She gave study guides for the exam, and all of the questions on the test were included on it. Also, she allowed for tons of extra credit opportunities. I was really impressed with the way she taught the class online.
She was really sweet and you could tell she was actually interested in what she was teaching. She also explained everything thoroughly.
Take her!!! Very understanding and kind. Honestly my favorite professor of the semester, because she always managed to make online lectures interesting and engaging.
I loved her class. She has a quirky sense of humor. I giggled a lot on zoom with her. Sraightforward study guides! Do the extra credit, it bumped me up to an A when I was sure I had a B. Email response is a little laggy. If you ask the right questions she leads you to the right answer. Don't waste her time if you're not paying attention.
As long as you go to class its a pretty easy class to pass. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities as well.
Omg Professor Stout is AMAZING!!!! You have 4 exams but provides study guides which are almost identical. Every unit you will have reading assignment/hw/video assignments but they're easy to do. Also provides a lot of extra credit as well as does an amazing job at explaining her power points during lectures. She jokes around during lecture too.
Professor Stout is super quirky and kind! Her love of geology and volcanoes especially really shows for her lectures are engaging and interesting. Lots of homework yes but she does offer extra credit on every exam!
Professor Stout led such a fun online zoom class and you would think her night job is being a comedian. I highly recommend taking her! Tests were honestly super easy just study the lectures and its an easy A.
You can definitely tell she loves what she does. A lot of assignments but theyre not too difficult. She did not require a book.
You definitely need to show up to class in order to do well on exams, but overall she's a great professor. Definitely do the study guides she provides for you, as well as all (or most) of the extra credit; she offers a lot! Last, the video assignments are worth the same amount of points as the exams so do well on them (she gives study guides).
She's very well organized on canvas and for class. Sometimes she opens up assignments ahead of time so you can get ahead, if you want. Her lectures are very thorough and the study guides she releases are as well, so no surprises on tests and assignments. She offers so much extra credit that you can earn an extra 7.5%. Pretty easy summer class.
Overall a pretty easy class. Prof. Stout does an amazing job on lecturing. The class is broke into units. Your grade is based on reading/video assignments, in class assignments and exams. The timed exams is based on study guides she gives as a way to take notes during lecture. Also she offers extra credit so just take her to get your UD B5 done.

GO TO CLASS! there are class activities. there are a lot of extra credit opportunities, she gets really condescending saying things like "you should not try to make your teacher mad before a test" or gets snappy with students when they ask questions. Lots of hard quizzes and tests. Hard project. She knows and is passionate about the class.
If you can take a course with Prof. Stout do it. Her lectures are amazing, she is a very engaging teacher and very positive and upbeat. She can make the ground interesting. I wish I could take other classes with her in the future. Lectures are interesting, easy to understand and she welcomes dialogue. Absolute gem!
Shes very rude and sometimes will find it humorous when no one is joking around about their grade. Her grading is very unorganized, I had a D the whole semester damnnear and didnt see my grade go up even with extra credit until the end of the semester! Awful!
Took 2 classes with her! Very passionate about what shes teaching and makes a lot of jokes. She drops a lot of stuff at the end to help us out. Class isnt easy but totally doable especially if you go to class
Professor Stout is funny, friendly, and passionate. There is no way you could fail this class unless you fell into a coma and couldn't attend. She gives you study guides, provides thorough lectures, and even offers a ton of extra credit opportunities. My only regret is that I don't need more geology courses so I could take her again!
This professor has unrealistic expectations considering she is very condescending, grades heavy, and gives out a very confusing project in which she get's super rude about our questions when we tell her we are confused, because in her eyes the project is very clear even though it is not. Expect to read and have weekly quizes.
I took Geol 115 with professor Christina Stout in Fall 2021. If you take this I highly advise going to office hours, working on assignments ahead of time, paying attention in class, asking questions if they are unclear to you. There would be class activities to do after each lecture. Professor Stout drops your lowest test and class activity score.
Professor Stout is a great professor. While this class does have a heavy workload, she makes it manageable by providing lots of extra credit and has clear communication between students. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does have class activities so it is best to show up anyways. There are 4 exams and 1 big project.
Honestly, an easy class if you just keep up with the notes and do your assignments on time. She also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities as well. Just do your work and it will be an easy class.
This course was alright. Personally, I would not recommend it as the lectures are really long, and dry. The professor goes off-topic quite a bit. I feel that most of the assignments are unnecessary but are easy points sometimes. Though, a lot of extra credit is offered which is good.
I sparingly attended optional Zoom. Midterm project is a joke. Not hard, but tedious. Drops worst exam out of 4, but still have to take all 4. Everything open note. Only thing keeping her from a 1 is extra credit. Goes off topic a lot, and can be condescending. Spent 20 min 1 time arguing how a trick question on a quiz wasn't a trick question.
The midterm group project made me want to drop out of the class... unnecessarily hard. Would not recommend this class to anyone not willing to put extra effort and time in this class since its not even important.
Pros: Tons of extra credit, most of the material is on power-points, and is flexible most times. Cons: Lectures are very long and can get tedious, they go off-topic a lot, some assignments are unnecessary. Pretty average course. Use your resources to do well.
Lectures were always long and tedious. Lots of homework assignments that were more or less busy work but also some that were just hard and confusing. And her exam questions were sometimes hard. She did offer a lot of extra credit which helped a lot. Overall okay professor
Very straightforward class and Professor was kind. She drops the lowest exam score so there is no need to worry if you bomb a test. The project is worth 20%, if you submit it early you get extra credit. It was an easy A.
Great teacher. Her course over the years changed. She grades super easy & most exams are an easy A. Open Note exams. Reading assignments are 15min long but their are powerpoint & a 1-2 page sheet that studies you for exams. She is sweet & funny. Would take again. Few easy video assignments. 1 project (1hr to finish), so easy. Easy & Fun GE. Take it
She was your average professor. Her grading was a little harsher than average and you had to kept up with reading assignments, video assignments, and a group project. Project was annoying. If you put the time in class you will be okay but not an "easy" A.
Do not take this course if you cannot handle the anxiety of all your grades coming in weeks later. Over complicated class on a subject which shouldn't be this difficult. Her lectures power points are useless, because they almost have no info on them and you have to go scavenging for every answer.
dr. stout is super funny and a great professor. the class isn't hard, you'll do fine on the exams if you do the study guides. no textbook, everything you need is given during lecture. shes super passionate about the subject and the class was interesting. lots of extra credit and drops lowest exam score, i didnt have to take my final
Had a B- the whole semester but ended up with an A within last week. She drops 4 of your lowest assignments which helps grade. Project was fun & could get regraded after you submitted. Caring & funny teacher. Good amount of assignments not the easy Ge but interesting! The material is easiest & not to hard. Offers an exam retake which was helpful!
Professor Stout was so kind and funny but just a bit sarcastic at times which could be too much. She does care about her students but there is one big project and three exams. Attendance does not matter but she does do in-class assignments which count towards your grades. She puts them online but it isn't worth as much.
The lectures were always long and dull. There was a lot of in-class activities and homework that was busy work and didn't help with retaining much info. Some exam questions were hard but she did offer to drop your lowest exam score (out of 3 exams in the class). She was also at times testy and rude to students, so be attentive if you go to class.
Professor Stout is a very outgoing and passionate professor. I definitely found her Volcanoes class very interesting as you get to do a number of different class activities and reading quizzes over her lectures and video assignments with also a group project. She does also let you use notes on the exams.
i fumbled by not attendin lectures and missing out on in-class activities, otherwise easy class and easy professor. Tests are directly from her slides and they were pretty easy. Homework is pretty easy too. Best class you can take for area B.
Very interesting course, and you can see the passion Professor Stout has for volcanoes. This was her first time doing an asynchronous online course, it may lighten. An average of 9 assignments due Sunday nights with roughly three 2.5 hour video lectures weekly. A huge stickler on grading, but drops 4 low assignments at the end of the semester.
Professor Stout is passionate about volcanoes and wants her students to succeed. There are many graded in-class assignments, and she allows notes for exams. Be sure to use unique wording and avoid restating the question in your answer for all short answer questions on assignments, exams, and projects since she is very strict about plagiarism.
Do not take her. She's not a bad professor, she is lenient with her assignments. But she is rude towards her students and gives them attitude even when they are genuinely confused. From the first day of class she really played us. She was nice and then she started taking out her anger towards her students.
She will tell you attendance doesnt matter l but it definitely does. Claims that everything is available online but its not. If she makes a mistake on a question she will not accept responsibility and will dock the grades of students. Stickler for following directions but her directions are difficult to parse. I got an A because I'm a try hard.
Hw is posted online, but you won't know about it unless you attend class or regularly check canvas. Directions about stuff are sorta confusing but able to figure out. Printed papers to turn in only. Easy A if you try, complete assignments, and study a little.
It's unnecessarily difficult for a class that no one is majoring in. Be prepared to put in a lot of time for a useless class. If you're looking for an easy class so you can focus on other classes, just be prepared. It's easy work, but just a ton of it. Plus the exams are difficult if you don't prepare.
The class is separated into 4 parts. There are video assignments, reading assignments and quizzes for each one. The homework is posted from each class meeting so you do not have to attend. She is really nice and willing to explain work if you do not understand anything!
This woman is so passionate about volcanoes it drives me nuts. May be appealing to some people, but this class is ruling my summer. Please do not take this class if you're not a geology major. This is not the easy A you are looking for. Especially during summer.
I wish my girlfriend loved me the way this professor loves volcanoes.
Attendance matters even though it's not mandatory. Doesn't grade clearly, tough grader as well. She is low-key mentally unstable, one time I asked her if this was a good time to ask a question about the final and she went feral. Gets overwhelmed easily, hated interacting with her.
This is an UD/GE class! You shouldn't have to remember so much it makes you struggle in your other classes. The class had to beg for a note sheet for the exams which she threatened to take away. If you come in late or go to the bathroom get ready to be called out in front of the whole class. Don't try to use your phone, even to see the slides.
Terrible terrible terrible! Genuinely one of the least caring and irrational teacher's I have EVER had. Do not take her if you're not a Geology major. She's knowledgeable about volcanoes... that's really the only pro I think she has about her. You know what they say those that can't do, teach. She has this weird spazz energy and ego about her...
Don't take this class srs :). Way too much for a GE class and throws info at you for the exams. She expects you to love volcanoes as much as she does and become a volcanologists or something.
All of these negative reviews are not it. This is the easiest class you could take for a GE as long as you actually read the stuff she uploads. She literally has the class designed so that you can pass with an A even if you don't attend class.. She's sweet, and her grading criteria is extremely specific and clear.
Also- there are no papers at all? There's a weekly reading quiz and class activities that you turn in up to two class days (so basically a week) afterwards. I cannot stress how accessible and easy her class is if you actually feel like putting a tiny bit of effort in. The hardest part is the project, which she has EXTREMELY CLEAR guidelines for.
Idk why her reviews are so negative, I enjoy her class. She is very passionate about teaching about volcanos and will answer any questions you have (and encourages asking them). Attendance is not mandatory, no textbook is required, a full page cheat sheet (handwritten) for exams, and the HW is pretty ez. She can be a rough with some grades tho.
Very simple woman. Very passionate about science. She was enjoyable to have as a professor and attendance was not mandatory. Lets you turn in work late and all answers to exams and assignments are in slides she posts. She records all lectures. The only con is the amount of assignments (2-3 a week) but stay on top of them and it's easily done.
Several spelling and grammar mistakes in the questions for reading assignments, quizzes, and exams. It didn't always change the meaning of the questions but sometimes they did. Overall not a bad class and I was able to get an A with just keeping up with the regular work. Gives a ton of extra credit opportunities and drops grades which is nice.
very caring professor, and extremely passionate about the subject material. relatively light workload and gives students many tools for success, like study guides and homework assignments that are relevant to the tests. overall great class if you have no prior knowledge or interest in geology, highly recommend :)
This professor is very knowledgeable in and passionate about volcanoes, but I sincerely do not believe she enjoys her job. She is easily irritated and makes the classroom environment extremely stressful. I leave the classroom anxious due to her hostile attitude with students. It is hard to learn from someone who clearly does not want to be there.
Probably one of the worst professors ever. Thought this was a good volcano class. She had personal reasons and lashed out on the class and made things difficult. Doesn't like answer questions and expects us to know everything off the bat. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Gives unclear directions. Very messy canvas set up.
kind of a lot of work but easy if you show up and do it. hw isn't hard, lecture heavy so take notes and you'll be fine, there is a project but you can choose to do it in a group or individually. canvas is great so you don't have to go to class if you don't need to. you get a cheat sheet on exams and quizzes are online. lots of extra credit chances
The professor was nice at first, but my feelings changed when she accused me of cheating. I was hesitant to go to the professor with any questions or concerns after this, as she was extremely rude whenever I did. The course material itself was good, but taught aggressively. So, if you're able to take this course online and "self-teach", do it.
Contrary to what others have said, this class really wasn't that bad. Her canvas is set up really well, but she takes on too many students and is overwhelmed. There's a lot of homework in the form of quizzes about reading assignments and videos. Be prepared to set some time aside to focus on her assignments (for me it was about 2-3 hours per week).
Loved her GEOL170 age of dinos class. Incredible slides. Homework was never difficult and always related to the lectures, videos, or reading. She prepared us to succeed in her class. She's a brilliant and accomplished geologist that wants her students to do well. I wish I could take her for upper level Geo classes.
Professor Stout -an amazing volcanologist! Her extensive knowledge and engaging teaching style made her class enjoyable! Attendance is not mandatory. Lectures are informative and humorous. While the workload is heavy, the material is well organized and clear, and she will support you if you are confused. Success in her class requires discipline.
If you don't go to class which you won't want to do you won't do good on the exams. She gets sidetracked a lot during lecture.
I thought she was a wonderful teacher and taught the class well. She's a wealth of information and has had an amazing geology career. Glad I took her class. She made it really easy to succeed. Prepared you for all the assignments and was always easy to get ahold of outside of class.
She's overall a nice professor but sometimes she gets overwhelmed with a lot of students. This class really teaches you a lot about volcanoes so if you're not interested at all and is taking this class just to get over with you B5 requirements, get ready to spend a bit of time on this class. Take some other class if you can!
do not take this class if you think it will be easy. The quizzes are pretty specific. You HAVE to know all the little details in all of the material. They are all on lockdown browser and she gives you very limited time to complete them. As its my first time fully learning about the ocean I do not have every fact memorized like she expects of you.
She is a literal angel with the amount of extra credit she gives. Literally just do the video assignments which is where you simply just watch a video and answer the questions she gives. Reading assignments are simple. Listen to lectures. Open notes for all quizzes. No way you cant pass with a B or higher! And she's quick with email replies!
She gives trick question on all the millions of assignments she assigns. All online class so it was nice in that way but she doesn't give you correct info for any of the quizzes and then refuses to change your grade when you call her out for wrong quiz answer choices. just find another class unless you want passive agressive comments everyday
Interesting and easy for UD class. Prof doesn't put up with BS. Attendance is not required but if you go to class regularly this class is super easy. Lots of extra credit, open note exams, lots of time for assignments. She can be kind of intense but is fine if you show up and do the work. Weekly HW is reading with short quiz on lockdown browser.
Make sure you pay attention to her syllabus, she's a bit stern in how she likes things done, but it's manageable. You have reading & video quizzes to complete, along with a huge final assignment (Element Project). Exams were easy & she lets you use a booklet with notes. & Communication is key, just send her an email or see her office hours for q&a.
