She is using her power point slides. She loves history and makes the chapters very easy. She has one student presentation during the semester and it is easy (just have handout)her midterm and final worth 120-150 points. Just study only the I.D.and slides that she will give.Just study.
she was really good and made the calss interesting. she has powerpoint so that helps a lot study the ID's and her notes and you'll do good
Shes a wonderful teacher. Reading the book prior to lecture is recommended, but even if you dont, she explains things passionately and accurately. Tests arent bad, a few "I.D."s and an essay question. One presentation, which isnt bad. Also, one term paper. Other than that, reading is the homework. Shes fun, I suggest taking her.
I took her online class this summer. It was pretty easy and she gave me good grades on all my homework. Make sure to read her power point slides, a lot of quiz questions are on it. She responds quickly to questions and is very helpful. Take her class!
Great instructor! I took online class with her and went really well. Everyone should take one of her classes.
Great Professor! I learned alot in this course. I took this course online over summer and the worload was fair. She provides a lot of sources and is a huge help. Her class is interesting and makes the class easy.
Ms. Yamanaka is VERY passionate about teaching history! she is a very good teacher and relays the information in a fun, easy to understand way. Oh yeah AND SHE IS SMOOOOKING HOTTT!!!
Coolest teacher ever!!! Take her, especially if History is not your thing, she makes it interesting and fun!
She is one of the best professor I know. She is organized and always ready to help out her students even though she has so much to do!she doesn't assume you know what she's talking about so you will not get lost. All her class requires is effort and of course studing.
I found Christina Yamanaka to be energetic, fair, and helpful. I would definitely recommend her classes to others.
I found Christina Yamanaka to be energetic, fair, and helpful. I would definitely recommend her classes to others.
Energetic, competent, and talented--highly recommended!
Good teacher!! Very clear and helpful!! A total of 4 homework assignments and 2 take home quizzes!! Highly recommended!!
Christina is great! She's really passionate about history and that really shows in her lectures. Being in class is a must, she covers most of the reading in her lectures so it's not always necessary to repeat that with the reading. She has 2 take home quizzes, an in class midterm and final. There is an in class essay required for both. Easy grader!
She is a good teacher who enjoys history and makes it fun. An easy grader.
Ms. Yamanaka is great! I took her class online, if you do the assignments and post on the discussion board she grades very fair. Also, she is very timely in her responses if you email her for help. Very encouraging and sweet! I would take her again...
Grades fairly and in a timely manner with individual feedback. Work is moderately paced and well-explained. Above all, her upbeat attitude is what brings real life to the class. Would absolutely take another course with her!
She is just an overall good teacher.
She is a good teacher.
I took this class and found it a little difficult at the beginning. She does require quite a few books, which can get pricey. We explored and discussed everything stated in the syllabus. Super energetic and very nice! Take the class for fun!
Yamanaka really is a great history teacher! You can just tell she is passionate about what she is teaching. One thing i loved is that even if you give an answer in class that may be off track, she doesn't make you feel stupid, she leads students toward how that is relevant. Class lectures can be boring, but other than that, good class.
My only quip with this teacher is the required Primary Document readings, which are rather lengthy and difficult to read, and many of which you are not given a long enough period of time. The 2nd and 3rd Primary Documents were spaced only a week apart, and during that week, Thanksgiving and Election Day both took place. Too much reading.
Mrs. Yamanaka is an amazing professor. She has genuine passion for History, and makes class fun and interesting. There is alot of work required, but its not really hard if you keep up with all the reading of both text's. The Midterm and final are easy if you study, and the SI session and so helpful.
I am not a history person but I did learn a lot from this class. It is not an easy class. There are 4 Primary Documnts and her tests include essay questions. This instructor is very helpful and understands when problems arise she will be there to help if needed
Before taking this course, I expected the class to be boring and pointless. However, Ms. Yamanaka makes evrything so understandable and so interesting, you will not fall asleep in this class. She does not teach by the book, but she doesn't test by it other...it's all in class lectures. The primary doc's are a little hard, but worthwhile:)
Great teacher if you need history credits! All tests from notes,so take lots of notes! Don't really need main textbook. No surprises on tests, just show up and do work, you will get a good grade!
Shes very organized. And Shes Pretty cute, not too hard of a teacher either.
Great teacher! She's very nice about her work, yet doesn't take crap from anyone. The most homework you'll do is reading and 3 fairly easy papers on what you read, so make sure to read! No surprises on her tests, and a lot of her material she goes over multiple times. Notes are a must!
EASY!! Test are open book. She replies fats to email questions. Work is average for an online class. Only way to fail is if you are lazy!!
Great professor and overall the class is very easy. I got an A on both midterm and final and didn't really do much else and still managed to pass the class. I highly recommend her.
Very helpful teacher and she is very easy going. I would take her again.
Great teacher, very approachable and has a love for her subject. There is a bit of reading to do along with several primary documents, but nothing all that bad. Attendance is a must if you want the points for the pop-quizes and she offers several extra credit assignments to boot. Oh Gauge your time well with her tests, I highly recommend Yamanaka.
Very enthusiastic teacher. Not a difficult class, but there is a lot of writing. Tests are all based on lecture, so don't miss any classes. She gives extra credit as well.
She is one of the best professors I have had at MSJC! She's very energetic and passionate about what she teaches, so lecture is never boring. I highly recommend taking at least one of her classes!
She is by far the best teacher I had so far at MSJC. All her exams are completely based off her lectures and not the textbook. The students only read the textbook to get more detail about the specific subject. She always looks so energetic and excited to teach history; therefore, this makes the class more enjoyable@
She's very attractive and intelligent. Take her class!!!
She is a great teacher! im taking her for summer 14 and I will be taking her for fall 14 for Hist 111. I hate history prior and the way she teaches makes it hard for someone not to be interested in learning. Would highly recommend her.
Best teacher I've had all semester. She is very helpful, passionate about history, and amazingly clear. She will make sure you take the right notes by emphasizing important pieces in her lectures. Easy class, great teacher.
I really look up to Professor Yamanaka. She makes her lectures clear for the students and her tests are easy as long as you study. She gives you key ID's you need to know for each chapter and her quizzes and tests are based solely on those. For ID's you need to know the date, definition and historical significance.
history, one of my worst subjects EVER, but after taking Ms. Yamanaka, I believe I was able to get an understanding and sincere interest to this subject. Her lectures are ON POINT when test or quizzes are concerned. If I had to take any HISTORY class, I'd DEFINITELY take Professor Yamanaka over and over again!!
She is GREAT! I've taken her in the past for History 104. This semester was a little different with a multi-genre paper but it was still worth taking her class. Shes inspiring.
Her lectures were very interesting. The in class assignments are very easy. She has All important documents on blackboard for easy access. Awesome overall.
I'm not too into history & expected Professor Yamanaka's to be just another history class-- wrong! Her class was fascinating & gave me a much deeper understanding of the past & how it impacts life today. There really wasn't a dull moment during lectures & she is more than happy to help with anything you my need. You'll do well if you pay attention.
I took Professor Christina Yamanaka for two different courses and I have to say that she is hands down my favorite history teacher. She tells you exactly what will be on the Exams. Attending class is very important because her tests are all based of the lectures. Even if you do not have an interest for History she will make you enjoy it.
Prof Yamanaka is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever taken. She gives amazing lectures but make sure you write down all of the notes because they will be on all of the quizzes and tests. She repeats something 3 or 4 times if it is going to be on the test. She also tells you exactly to the tee what to study for. She also gives extra credit.
I would totally take her again. She was super awesome. She's helpful and cares about your grades. I'm usually a B student I earned an A. I did all the homework and extra credit. She has semi-easy tests. Show up listen takes notes and you'll be succesaful. Love this woman.
Great History professor, not too much reading not too many papers a nice balance with fair grading.
Super organized! Easy A! really nice and understanding. Recommend for sure.
Great teacher. Grades get back quickly, very fair tests, she teaches pretty much everything in the lecture and on power point so showing up to class is easier than reading the material. Very avid speaker, easy to understand.
Christina Yamanaka is one of the few professors that actually cares about her students and the things they learn and their college success. She's never been anything but nice to me and she really teaches in an effective manner where you actually learn things. I've taken her before and she's just awesome. Make sure you read though!
She's awesome! Her lectures are clear and understandable! Yamanaka speaks loudly and provides a lot of examples in her explanation. She gives great feedback on the assignments that are turned in, and she gives many extra credit opportunities. Yamanaka is not much of a strict grader. You just have to study and review before that quiz or test.
I always looked forward to my 9 am class with her. Absolutely passionate about what she does.
You can tell she truly cares for her students and is passionate at what she does. The assignments are interesting, and she gives great feedback on grading as well. Almost want to fail the class and retake it just to have her again!
I really miss taking this professor! I always looked forward to her class. Yamanaka presents her material in a passionate and engaging way! She passes out handouts everyday to ensure everyone is on the same page with new material, assignments etc... Tests are not difficult if you show up, and make sure you know everything on that study guide.
I had trouble with the website the quizzes were on one time, and she was incredibly helpful and understanding in the situation.
Not an easy A but is definitely doable as long as you read that material and study your notes. Covers the material well and is fair when grading.
Great teacher. Test and quizzes come from lecture so take good notes. I loved this class. The material from the lecture was interesting and informative. 2 main answer/writing assignments, 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 quizzes.
Prof Yamanaka, is the great professor I took her in Summer 2018 online. She really fair grader and her work isn't too tough just you have be on top of workload. We had quizzes weekly and discussions too midterm and final is fairly easy. I learned so much and remembering history so critical to us now to not repeat. I took recommend her to anyone!
I took this class online during the summer. She expects a lot from writing assignments and discussion boards. Midterm and Final consist of two written assignments each. She wants quotations for everything so you better be reading the books. Weekly quizzes are easy to pass because they are not timed and you can retake it if you have to.
Professor Yamanaka gives generous updates before every assignment is due and this really helped me to stay on track with reading and getting assignments turned in. She is quick a great professor to go to for resources and is also head of the Honors Enrichment Program. Recommend.
Great professor and class. I think she is the director of the Honors program.
Professor Yamanaka an excellent personality and that class was very interesting. She was giving a lot of explanations and notes and how to do the exam. give a lot of credits. SHE IS AN AMAZING PRO! : )
Yamanaka was one of the BEST professors I have ever had. She knows when to be professional and when to engage with students like normal people. I loved her teaching style and you can tell she's passionate about what she does. Late work is accepted and not deducted. There is a lot of reading, but the content is actually interesting.
One of the best classes I have ever taken, she is an amazing teacher and gives plenty of time to do your homework. She responds quickly and helps in anyway she can. If you want an easy and lightweight class this is the class to take.
Workload isn't too much it's moderate. Everything was easy to understand because the professor did their job in making sure we understood. Most things were due on the weekend. The professor is very nice and awesome. Loved the class and didn't give me stress. Favorite part, unlimited time on quizzes and exams. This made me not feel the need to rush
I took this class online during the summer and it was okay. There are a lot of assignments due in a week and 3 essays. She gave me an extension whenever I needed it. She is not a tough grader and I am just lazy and low effort, which made me lose points on assignments. She would probably be better to take during a normal semester.
My easiest online class to follow out of like 10 classes or something. It's so well organized. She does so good at reminding you and giving you ample opportunities. She used InQuizitive which was a new experience - and one I wasn't a huge fan of. But I did appreciate a new teaching technique. Highly recommend her to other students.
I took Professor Yamanaka-Vu's class during my final semester at MSJC in Spring 2022. She truly cares about her students, is very organized, and gives valuable feedback on midterms, finals, and one research paper. There is one book you have to read and discuss about it at certain points during the semester. I'd take her again in a heartbeat.
She was the best teacher always willing to help you and look out for you if you started struggling. When ever you need help never be afraid to ask her!
She's a great professor and the work is pretty easy. She is a bit of a tough grader but she allows revisions and late work. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you are actually interested in East Asian history, otherwise you may not enjoy it much.
Fantastic professor! Conducts very engaging lectures and motivates students to participate. By far one of the easiest and most interesting classes I have ever taken. Very clear grading criteria and detailed feedback. Allows revisions for final research paper due near the end of the year. Allows up to one week grace period for late assignments. :)
She relies too much on AI detectors, thinks you're always cheating even if you have grammarly. She says its about content and effort, but grades so harsh like if there wasn't any effort at all. I was lucky to get an A after constantly emailing and being on zoom all the time. She never tried to understand students I wasn't the only one.
I'd stay away from this teacher unless this is the only class you're taking, workload was crazy. She grades very tough and doesn't offer much help. Likes to teach this class as if it is an honors class.
This professor will be kind and understanding during a zoom meeting about your paper then give you a barely passing grade without batting an eye. She is also heavily reliant on AI detecting technology and condemns the usage of grammarly. It's practically impossible to please her and she will always find a way to critique the most polished work.
Extremely passionate about the topics she discusses and pretty understanding/nice. The textbook is provided for free online as well. One research paper, an assigned novel reading with 2 class discussions, and one quiz for each week.
Very passionate in the topics during the zoom lectures, grades very harshly but you can resubmit for a better score. The research project (final paper) is kind of a headache and can shift your grade around depending on your score. Not the easiest A but it's obtainable if you just do the work and show up to the zooms.
She is by far my favorite professor I've ever had. She's very nice and passionate about her work, which makes engaging in the class fun. I learned a lot! It's definitely a writing course, so be ready to set aside time for assignments. She offers extra credit opportunities every week, and the material actually helps with the midterm and final format
Christina is a great teacher, this class is easy if you do your work. For an online class, she provides so much feedback through the rubric for every assignment, she is super helpful!! There is a big research project, but she assigns planning assignments months before its due, so lots of time. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!
Professor Yamanaka-Vu is a solid instructor who is very much about building peoples perspectives and knowledge of US history. Be ready to write and research and critically think in this class. She offers extra credit and encourages questions. This class is definitely worth taking and is led by an expert of history.
This is the second course I have taken with Professor Yamanaka-Vu and she did not disappoint. This class was online and met once a week but the pace, the content, and the workload was well setup. I'm so happy I took this course and recommend it for all interested in East Asian history.
extremely tough grader, does not allow you to redo a assignment no matter how much you beg her and is not willing to work with you when you need it. I am never taking any class with her again and rate this class a 0. It really stresses me out and I regret ever taking it.
Honestly such a simple class, and nice to balance with my other classes. Tests were short and easy if you read the textbook provided online. Decent amount of writing ~2-3 page papers about topics in the textbook/articles, but I was able to get them done without too much difficulty!
I dropped the ball in this class. I took one too many classes, and even tho I tried my best, I failed the class. This was my fault for having too much on my plate. I am looking forward to retaking her class.
Professor Yamanaka-Vu online class was enjoyable and engaging, even for someone who usually dislikes history. Her Zoom lectures are highly recommended for detailed explanations of assignments and midterms. Despite missing a few points on some assignments, she was understanding and still gave me credit.
