Y103 is not the most riveting class i've ever taken, but i don't think that barbour is rude. She just expects her students to do what is asked of them when asked (such as read the book) If you type out all of the IDs before hand, as she suggests, the exams are pretty easy. All you have to do is understand a textbook written at a 5th grade level.

A VERY HARD 100-level class. This professor expects you to just know everything from the textbook SHE WROTE, so on tests, you are not allowed to say what you think about the concepts. Barbour is one of the worst teachers I've had in college. she is very entitled to her opinion (very liberal) and regardless of what questions you ask she will just refer you to the book that she wrote. i had to study a lot for her tests due to her hard grading and the amount of terms on each test. do yourself a favor and find another professor.

She is the rudest and meanest professor I have ever had. She belittles her students when they answer wrong and calls out individual people in her class for talking in a lecture hall of 500 people. The lectures are irrelevant, don't bother going to class. Take the online quizzes, memorize vocab, and you'll get an A. All in all, she's just plain rude

Don't take this class. Professor Barbour is extremely rude to her students. She clearly states that she hates it when students email her. The tests are over at least 100 different definitions. She spends most of the class bashing the current republican party, and involving her personal views with class lectures.

Prof. Barbour is by far the worst professor. She's very opinionated, meaning that whatever she believes (mostly liberal) is the only way to think, and if you think differently you're wrong. Her exams are ridiculously hard considering she doesn't even lecture about the material on it. Overall, I'd find another professor, as she's horrible.

She's not too bad but makes this 100 level class a bit more than it should be. It's based on nothing but exams which she grades you hard on (the vocab questions- will make or break grade on exam). I got all questions right except some of ID's (Vocab & their significance) and received a D on the exam. The ID's are worth too many pts in my opinion..

Professor Barbour was without a doubt the worst professor I have had in college. Constantly unorganized, forgetful about showing up to class, and a shrewd attitude almost every day upon showing up for class. Especially for younger students, I would recommend taking another professor for this course. You will learn more and do better in their class.

It took me a Couple weeks to understand her style but once I did I realized the class wasnt just about history and current events but it was to help you learn how to think. Professor Barbour definityexpresses her opinions but I felt like she made then understandable even if I didnt always agree. I Felt like a learned a lot actually.

Definitely don't take this professor if you get the chance. She's a very rude professor and if you don't agree with her, she degrades you. You're only graded by tests and she makes the whole class stay on exam day until the class is over. Tests are pretty easy they're just over vocab and quizzes exactly from canvas. attendance isn't mandatory.

5 tests, over vocab and MC questions that are all found in quizzes she posts to canvas that dont affect your grade. Take the quizzes, learn the vocab and its political significance and you will easily get a B in this class. You can literally not attend a single class all semester other than the tests and do well.

She is amazing. I took her class as dual credit with my high school, so we watched her lecture videos. Her lectures were amazing and I watched them several times over just because they were so good. The biggest plus, she's non-biased with politics, and won't sway left or right with things.

While professor Barbour's lectures were very insightful and well-planned out, it is very clear that she is teaching based off of her own personal agenda. For example, the textbook for the class is written by her (and the class is based directly off of its contents), and is very obviously promoting (whether intentionally or not) her own politics.

(i took for dual credit, so not entirely accurate to taking her class at iub) Wasn't too bad. Prof Barbour is extremely opinionated, and is very *very* left leaning. If you figure out what exactly she wants on tests, (and her personal values), just regurgitate it. Lectures are long and rambly. Practice tests are your best friend. IDs are confusing.

This rating is for POLS-Y300, the class for students in DC. Loves the sound of her voice. Nobody wants to be there. Has yet to learn how Canvas works. Her husband came to guest lecture, and she treats him quite badly. Chastises students when they follow her instructions. The program itself, you should do. The class, don't waste your energy.

Her lectures are long and heavy. Tends to get off topic very easily and is hard to follow along since she gets all over the place. She claims to be "non-biased", however the majority of the readings or articles she assigns are extremly left-leaning. She means well, but if your looking for a non-biased teacher she is definitely not it. Iritating!

I think the other reviews are misleading when they say her bias is *left leaning. She is a partisan Democrat, and frames class discussion with her perspective as the only reasonable framework. Her perspective seems stuck in the politics of the '90s, so she pushes back, and is even condescending, to pro-Trump or pro-Bernie arguments.
