its a very cool class she goes over everything very well if you are going to take soc105 then i recommend her but for some is maybe a little to wordy and she is not that well organized but no ones perfect GREAT TEACHER/CLASS!!!!!
very easy. Never have to take notes, and barely any homework. tests are EXACTLY off handouts.
Very good teacher. She is very clear on what is expected. Pay attention in class and study her handouts, and you will be fine. She knows her subject very well and is always available for you.
Really nice person, would do anything to help you, but if you have her for honors she grades extrememly hard.
good teacher-but hard grader-must pay attention while in class and keep ahold of her power point notes, she gives her tests based on them
Go to class and listen to do well. She will help students with questions. Her tests were essays which sucked but she makes sure you understand the matter.
The class is interesting if you enjoy sociology, but as for teaching, if u rather have someone teach from notes and not talk during the whole class, i recomend someone else
Christine is an above average professor. Though sociology might not be everyone's favorite subject, she explains ideas well and challenges the minds of her students.
Good instuctor.
sometimes you are not to clear of what is expected but she is a sweetheart.
this class was pretty hard. but if you pay attention to the hand outs, it was doable
Very nice woman, will do anything to help
Very smart, fair grader, and helpful and understanding. As long as you do the required work you can get a good grade.
We had to do so much crap for this course, find an agency with a social problem and volunteer for a minimum of 10 hours! Then she's kind of boring, her lectures are just all powerpoint slides, but she's a nice person, and hotness!
good teacher, knows her craft well and tests exactly off of the handouts.
She is nice, but she is a pathetic teacher. She never hands assignments back, and the student doesn't know where they stand in the class; grade-wise. She makes you write 3-5 page reports and is never specific on what. She also has a bad habit of just giving C's to all the paper. The students noticed her habit right off the bat. Do not take her
Terrible teacher!!!!!!! Do not take this one!!All lectures are from powerpoint slides (yawn). All of the test are essay questions and answers which is diffucult for a SOC class. Not to mention the essay papers that are 6 pages long. Good luck.
Questions assigned weekly are used for tests. Do the work and you will do well. Very approachable and helpful professor. I enjoyed her class very much.
Students must write a 50 page report. Must go to a volunteer agency that relates to a social problem in society. Must watch videos and write reports on them. Must listen to her boring ass voice for whole time. Doesn't take attendance and thinks she knows everything. Is never specific. You learn nothing about sociology. This was a waste of time
Had her for an internet class. She assigns lots of work. She graded my paper harshly that i got an A on in a different class last year. The timed essay tests are a pain, but if you study for a while, you'll be fine. She responds to email mad quick, but she takes forever to grade (it took one month for a project and over 2 weeks for a test.
Not the easiest professor in the world... tough but good teacher
well, here's the thing. she knows her stuff. but it isn't super interesting and the papers you have to write are long. it wasn't hard to pass her class, but it was hard to excell
I took the class online and wanted to cry. Her papers are extremely tough and her standards are more on a graduate level than an undergraduate level. I am older student and I could not imagine being 18 and taking this as my first class in college.
This lady is so opinionated that it's not possible to get an A on anything. Never take her!!!!
Christine is such a biased teacher. if you have a capitalist view DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! she is a total communist and if you state your view and she has no response to save her view she will hold a grudge and it will show on your tests. If you write an essay it doesnt matter how many facts or statistics you have if its not her view, you fail.
I love Prof. Bowditch. She is tough; however, she really seems to want people to think critically about what they believe and why the believe it. If you are prepared to question everything you thought you knew about society, then take this class...but if you are prone to sticking your head in the sand, I recommend taking another class.
Had an online class with her, and it was difficult. Alot of material was covered, although she is quick to get back to questions and she is helpful. Overall good professor just read material and participate in discussions. Show intesest and you will be fine.
Is the worst teacher I ever had!! She is completely bias and unfair. I took her intro to sociology class online and she was useless. If your view do not match hers, she will give you a bad grade. The discussion board is supposed to be your opinion.. not in her class. I would never take her again...
she is the worst teacher i ever had took her online one of her classes equals four classes. It is extremely alot of work, 8-12pg paper i would not advise to take any class with her if she ask for your opinion in discussion questions but if doesnt agree with hers your wrong. Dont take her you will regret it.....
She is a good teacher but she is not an easy grader. There are tons of discussions, tons of reading, essay exams, and some of the assignments are not stated to clearly. If you are looking for a challenge this is the class to take.
Humorless. Does not foster a sense of community in her class. It's straight forward; all work, no enjoyment. Essays, discussions, papers. Not very personable.
This was a very tough class. Lots of reading for homework and her tests consist of 10 essay questions on each test. If you like a challenge take this class
I would never take her again.
She is one smart lady and really knows her stuff. She WANTS to hear your opions. If you do your work and study to learn things, everything will be fine. She is ALWAYS willing to help you with a paper and if you need she will gladly give an extension. Her tests are all muptile choice. Some lectues are hard to get through but we do alot of groups
horrible teacher. Takes awhile for her to respong to emails and shes not helpful at all. Online class is hard... and the papers forget about it she leaves you no detail for the paper and it had to be 8 pages
Straight forward lecture and puts powerpoints online before classes to follow along. Openminded and helpful. I learned alot from her class. She does what a professor should, teach and not nuts around in class wasting useful time.
So much reading every night. If she didn't like your opinion in your essays she would give you a bade grade. No one in my class got an A and very few Bs, most failed or dropped out last minute.
Horrible teacher she the type that is out to fail everyone gives horrible grades when you work so long on the papers and there is reading everynight with homework
I don't know about her class. She seems very off. I'm doing okay I think? I have little to no interest in this class. She doesn't really make it exciting.
BAD teacher. really hard.
Course was dropped in the Spring, there was so many discussions, reading every night as opposed to every other night. Hard on my opinion. I had a few other classes so having this one was more work than others combined.
I was worried going into this class given the ratings here, but I have no complaints. Put some effort into the work and you'll end up doing just fine with this professor.
If you have the option of taking her online class, I recommend it over the in class. I took the online course for the full summer semester and it was a breeze. Discussions are mandatory, but there are only 2 or 3 a week and each one takes a half hour at the most. You also can take the quizzes twice, so your basically guaranteed a 100% on them.
Dr. Bowditch is an excellent professor. I find her to be very personable and very helpful in everything. The work is rigorous and demanding but keep in mind, this is COLLEGE not high school. It shouldn't be EASY. Regarding Dr. Bowditch and her grading, she is tough but if you show the effort and think for yourself you shouldn't have a problem.
She is a very tough grader and her exams are hard. She is willing to work with you if you have any issues.
The subjects we discussed were insightful about many aspects in life: businesses, welfare, politics, LGBT. She wants to have the class discuss it instead of feeding any particular answers/views on the students. She is open for different views and offers further insight to viewpoints. I would recommend to take this class.
Extremely hard class even online, not recommended if your taking other classes! I'm a straight A student and had difficulty staying afloat. Our class average after midterms was 65% (to give you an idea). I ended up passing only b/c I slack in other classes & cut my hrs @ work to 20/wk. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Good luck if you end up having her...
She made me absolutely hate sociology and hope i never have to take another soc course! even online, there was a crazy amount of discussions, quizzes, projects, essays..and none of it made much sense. I took this the same semester as chemistry and actually preferred chem over this. HORRIBLE!
Excellent professor, always available for help
Very nice teacher! Extremely helpful. If you simply reach out to her and ask for help, you will get it. She ALWAYS gives deadlines. She gave me the whole summer to complete spring semester work!! incredible. She gives one-on-one help a lot. She also bought our whole class pizza after the midterm :DD
Very approachable and right down to business! I found her class refreshing and appropriately challenging. Grades on time and holds her self to the same standard of accountability she expects!
The class itself was a little tough but Bowditch was clear and helpful.
She is a very clear and helpful teacher. If you just come to her with any concerns or just anything interesting you want to talk about, she is happy to do so. I think the only negative is that her tests are pretty hard. They're all essays but if you know the subject well enough you should do fine!
She is clear and helpful. If you have concerns or just want to talk about something interesting she is open to do so. The material is also interesting if you pay attention. The tests are pretty hard. They are all essays, which makes them more difficult since you have to go in depth. But if you know the material you should be fine.
Dr. Bowditch is a very nice women. She is very understanding. If you need more time to finish a paper she will give it to you. With that being said, this women will bore you to death twice a weak for what will seem like the longest semester of your life.
The professor was nice but she mostly read off of power points and showed videos. If you read the chapters and pay attention to her notes you should be fine. The professor was helpful if you email her with any questions. My only complaint is that she is very boring but overall wasn't bad.
Very thorough in her presentations! Very knowledgable! Highly recommended!
Very boring lectures for the whole semester. A few unrelated and very outdated movies. Tests are hard and grading is hard.
Writes over a page explanation of how to write an essay and when you ask for help she tells you to go to the tutor center and pay for it! Ridiculous. Online tests are 50 questions long, and she only gives you 50 minutes to take it. Some questions are a paragraph long.. Absolutely a lot of work for an online 'intro' class
There's such a thing as being too abstract and she way crosses the line. I have no idea what she's saying half the time.
She gives extentions whenever they're needed. She's a total sweetheart! Not only that, but she held two final exam study sessions, and if we get an A on her final she'll add 10 points to our lowest exam grades! Amazing!!
I DO NOT recommend this professor to anybody. she is completely unrealistic in how many assignments she expects to be done all at the same time. Also, she tries too hard to word things with big vocabulary words which just makes everything over complicated and confusing. I thought I'd like this class but she has found a way to make me HATE it!
She might not have been a professor that made me want to change my major or anything, but I got an A and I was still a high school student. The class wasn't very hard at all, just keep up and follow guidelines.
Despite the fact that she is a very nice person, she is a horrible professor. Expects way too much from students and is never clear on the assignments. She treats this class like she is teaching in a master's program and expects a lot from students. She gives really boring reading material and lectures.
Professor Bowditch is a great professor. She is a very knowledgeable person (Graduated from University of Penn - 7th top school in the country), it is up to you to utilize her. She is very flexible with deadlines. If you need extra time, do not hesitate to ask. She is sometimes unclear with her expectations, but she is a fair grader.
Honestly Its a Sociology class. Not a criminal justice Major Degree class. Expects a hell of a lot out of you for the essays. Not really enjoying class because of this professors long lectures and barely asking students fun debates or questions. No Go!
She's an okay teacher. She's very specific with her lectures and presentations. If you have her, you HAVE to take notes to pass. Her assignments and essays expect way too much for a survey class in my own opinion. I usually don't complain, but I wasn't fond of the class. However, she is very understanding and flexible. Just approach her and ask.
She is really sweet and understanding. You can get extensions on your papers if you need it. She will lecture the whole class normally. Not really any homework, only just writing papers.
Very kind and understanding professor. Tough class and tough grader, but if you go to her for extra help you will be fine. She wants you to work hard and understand what we are learning. Never has bad intentions. Make sure you pay attention and tell her if you can't make it to class. Overall, she was really great.
Expects a lot from her students, but gets you ready for future classes. Really understanding and works with you. If you have an issue with anything, talk to her. Tough grader, but go to her for extra help and you will pass with a decent grade.
By far the hardest class I have taken. I think she expects too much out of an introductory course (especially the essays). The course could have been more engaging. There are less assignments but they are high on grading power. It also takes long to get graded too. On a positive note, she does provide extensions where needed.
Shes a nice professor but has some pretty high expectations for an intro class. The online quizzes are an easy A. Majority of my class failed their first paper, no one had a clue what she wanted. She does offer extra credit which was nice. Lots and lots of reading
By far the worst professor I've had if you want an intro to soc don't take this class. Even though it says it's an intro to soc it's not. She teaches it as a masters class, like you should know all the material coming into the intro class. She also grades hard and is very unclear with her essays. Do not recommend at all.
I enjoyed her class. we had a lot of interesting discussion which she is open to which is wonderful considering we agreed on almost nothing morally. She is a tough grader but if you try you can do it!
She is a tough grader and knows exactly what she's looking for and people rarely meet her expectations. She teaches this class like everyone in it is expected to be a master. She's a nice lady but when answering questions you may have she doesn't address your question directly and you're usually left feeling unsatisfied.
She's a nice professor. She gave us reviewer for exams but her quizzes are tricky. Her lectures are very interesting. You need to apply them in real life to understand it.
Bowditch herself is a genuinely good person, and has the capability to be a good professor, but she doesn't teach! She gives you all these assignments to read and questions (that don't even get counted for a grade) and then that's it! Plus, her class was more economics than sociology! Very aggravating!
She expects everyone to know everything about the class and all the books they're reading. She has a strict way of grading, and for a first year, first semester class, she treated her students as if they were trying to get a Master's degree instead of an associate degree. She also often would be too harsh on students during discussions as well.
Honestly one of the toughest professors ive had and maybe the reason I dont graduate on time. She grades very hard and honestly to strict. You can do exactly what she says and still be wrong. I have her for my online class of criminology and dont wish her on my worst enemy. Probably an okay person but she has given nothing but 60-69% on all papers.
Dont take this class if you dont want to read 50 pages a class.
Treats her introduction class like an honors class. Constant homework with readings like books. Also a strict grader and large and frequent assignments. would NOT recommend
She's my favorite teacher. She is passionate and VERY knowledgable about what she's talking about- in a good way, not a way that makes you feel stupid. Many people in my class did not care enough so they may not have gotten a good grade. As long as you do the readings, turn in your work, be respectful- you will EARN a good grade and LEARN a lot.
Professor Bowditch was an amazing professor. She actually CARES about her students. She understands student life. Her readings are extremely interesting, although it is a decent amount of reading. Only 2 tests and a final paper. I took the honors class and still ended with an A. Best teacher I've had so far.
openly admits she doesn't give students A's. LOTS of readings (15-30 page readings twice per week),most are relevant to today's world topics. treats the class like its above an intro level class. midterm and final are both take home essays which can be tricky, I didn't receive higher than a B- on both. very tough grader. nice person harsh teacher
Professor Bowditch was one of my favorites. Although there is quite a bit of reading, the articles are interesting. She discusses everything thoroughly in lecture to make sure you understand. I did not find the grading tough at all she gives you a clear rubric and more than enough material to succeed. Her passion about the subject is inspiring.
She is very respected among the sociology department, and yes, the lectures can be long, but she is very passionate about what she teaches.
There is at least 2 reading assignments a week. Lectures are long, but interesting. Her knowledge is inspirational! As long as you read the assignments and pay attention during the lecture, you should pass. Her grading is very clear, the rubric states specifically what she is expecting. Overall, I would take her again.
Forever my favorite professor. She's clear about due dates and what she expects. If she ever trips up on something (which is rare) she will rectify the situation. She is VERY fair and extremely smart. If you have trouble, just talk to her. She believes in you and truly wants you to succeed. Plus, you learn a lot from her classes; just pay attention
I'm a straight A student and for some reason, she gave me a C due to disagreements. Find a different professor, she will destroy your GPA.
Too many personal opinions shared with students and not enough allowing the student to use critical thinking.
I have never met a professor as kind or intelligent as Bowditch. She has made my first year at LCCC amazing. The lectures we have in class are so mind blowing and eye opening that I leave her classroom everyday knowing beyond more than I would have ever hoped to. She is amazing and I truly believe I've been made a better student/person b/c of her.
Don't take this professor! We had two long papers and we were not allowed to express our opinions or else we got a 0. Would always put us into break-out rooms, because she thought we could learn from each other about the material, but that was a joke. Also, even with an excuse, you will still get points taken off if you can't make it to class.
Hard grader with essays. Takes points off attendance even for excused absences. Decent lectures. Useless breakout rooms.
Professor Bowditch assigns interesting reads/videos, but I found her to be an incredibly difficult grader. She did not give anyone in my class over a 94 on either of the essays we wrote (worth 50% of the final grade). She also gave very little feedback. I recommend choosing a different professor if you are a full-time student.
After reading some of the negative comments before taking this class, I considered finding a different professor. Glad I didnt. Turn assignments in on time, participate in discussions, and you will do fine. If you someone who has issues with your dog eating your tablet and you are looking for extensions frequently, try another professor
WAY To hard for an entry level Sociology class. Not to heavy work load wise, but there's A Lot of reading. The time limits on the quizzes were unreasonable and really hard to pass, as well as this professors grading tactics on essays. Professor is unorganized, and syllabus has mistakes in it. I do not recommend if you are taking this for a gen ed.
She is a terrible professor, she is rude and never responds back to your emails. The class is so boring.
God forbid you have a job or responsibilities while taking her class. She gives you one week to read at least 40 pages on boring topics, and then expects a 300 w discussion along with replies. If you ask for help she recommends tutoring. She is the absolute worst. Dont understand how she still has a job compared to other amazing professors.
This is way too hard for an intro class. She assigns hour-long videos along with 30-plus readings to do in one week. Her quizzes are hard and the definitions do not match the ones she gives you in her long notes. I would recommend NOT taking her. I wish I never did.
I loved Professor Bowditch. She is one of the most intelligent and engaging professors I have had. Be ready to participate in class discussions and to read a lot of materials. Her lectures have opened my eyes and changed the way I see the world. I can say that definitely left her class a different person than I started.
As many other reviews have indicated, be prepared for a VERY left-leaning professor who's course materials only show one side of an argument. College is supposed to encourage open thoughts and ideas however in this class I felt like I was being indoctrinated against the entire criminal justice system.
Lots of people are complaining she was too left-leaning, that's because all the sociological data backed up the left and progressive ideologies. If you don't like it you just don't like being proved wrong! Quizzes were hard, but you just have to read everything and get the gist of each concept.
As a person and professor she is really nice, but her class is very hard to do while also working full time and having a family. I would say only take this class if you can dedicate all your time to it. She assigns for very long articles to read that in my opinion are hard to understand and overall just bore you after while.
This was taken for an honors credit. We had to read so many articles in a week and after each one write a reflection on what we read. Also had to write a 15-18 page research paper on a modern social problem. Pay attention in class and take lots of notes as you might need them for test essays. She was easy to email and got quick responses.
She is a bad teacher. Her grading style makes no sense and the articles given do not relate to the topic at all. 0/10 professor do not take her class.
She had an awful teaching style. She gives us multiple 30 page readings and expects us to read through it all then answer in paragraphs about what we read. All due with 5 days. As well she is a very harsh grade and give rude feedback to you. She is disrespectful and a very unhelpful teacher. I would never take this class again
She was very rude and told me that I have to use the lecture notes and then I did and then she said that I did it wrong, she also barley responds to my email
There's a TON of reading material, not a ton of assignments. Discussions were fun and super open-ended, but the quizzes were a tad difficult. Mainly because you had to know a bunch of random details from the readings - which makes it impossible to skim. If you are easily bored from reading, don't take her.
