she is strict and picky
Instructions were very vague, then when it came time to grade, you get marked down for everything. Should have included detailed instructions to avoid any problems. In class all we did was read in class essays, where she always told everyone they did good, then she would rip almost everyone on their papers. I would definitely not take her again.

Didn't show up on the day of the final. What else can I say?
It's a writing class, so ya you have to do a lot of writing! But well worth it! Helps you with your writing skill and approved my paper grades in all of my classes! Willing to help her students!
Covers alot of material but tests are mostly from her lecture and not the book! Very willing to go that extra mile and assist you with questions if you take the time to ask! Great class!
She is a tough cookie!
A little tough (its a writing class so you have to write) but hjelped me out with my assignmetns for my other classes. My papers grades have increased! She will teach you a lot and will assist you if you just ask! Thanks alot an hope to see you around cam

I loved this class, she was sensitive and helpful, encouraging, helped me write better and thats why I was there! no problem with her at all!
what a ****!!! she has teacher pets and oh yah she looks down at you when you ask her questions.. she gets paid to teach, so she should help you. she told me im not a good writer then why did i get and A.. plus i took psych 311 and had no problems with my papers. dont take her she gives you unwanted stress, plus shes a ****.
She is the worst unhappiest professor on the whole campus. She expects you to know how to write the way she wants you to but then fails you for being opinionated in your papers. She needs to retire and move far away
Expects flawless papers and has pointless in-class excercises that don't help.

Not too hard as she gives you a chance to rewrite papers and allows to to either drop one or not do one. There is a research paper but offers a lot of help. Will sit down with you one on one and help you with your targeted problems. Give her a shot, she will make you a better writer and you will actually learn something.
SSCI 306 was just about the last class I wanted to take. While it was just as painful as I thought, Chris did work to make at least remotely rewarding. Writing classes will always suck; but give her a chance and you might learn if I have used that semicolon properly.
I wanted to take different professor. Anyways, it was a hard class. Tests were so hard. Good luck if you have to take this class with her. Lecture was boring. One paper assignment. Hang in there.
She is totally boring and likes to go off on tangents that have nothing to do about the class. I don't know how many times we talked about polotics or topics like that. If you can, avoid her but the problem is that she is usually the only option to take, so good luck!
she talks about how george bush has an extremely smal head proportioned to his body.....boring....fell asleep many times...tests on book material...or sometimes if the she doesn't feel the book is right....she will test you on her views....because she can it's her test....kind of reminds me of Roseanne.....very bitter!!!!
Not helpful! VERY RUDE!
I disagree with those that say she doesn't like minorities. I am white, an A student, and she has given me a hard time. I have her for a writing class. The book she uses was written before the Internet. She is a difficult and mean person. She doesn't seem to like teaching or students. She is impossible to contact, won't use the campus voicemail.
a tuff teacher. grades hard
really hard
Reasons not to take her class: 1. All points based on midterm and final; 2. Many questions on test are not in book or class notes; 3. Many typos in her notes, as well as on tests (unprofessional); 4. Study guide for the final was "look at your notes". I never missed a day of class and I took notes, but I left the final with a sense of failure.
Not a professional teacher. She missed several classes and did not take this into consideration on tests. Class points based on midterm and final. Lectures consisted of reading class outlines word for word. Tests on stuff not on outline. Study guide said "read outline." Teacher was rude and bitter. Worst teacher I have ever had. Total waste.
She is incredibly rude! She embarassed me in front of the whole class. She is teaching a writing class when she does not know how to spell (she will admit to this too!) She also teaches anthro which has nothing to do with grading english papers. Very difficult, and her grading scale sucks. I got a 91 and received a B+. Avoid!
class was fun. A lot of extra credit.
Her lecture consists of an hour video, then an hour of reading an outline of her notes line by line The material is not difficult, it is just that she makes tests a lot more complicated than it should be. It is difficult to understand what it is she is looking for as an answer. Lazy professor that should not be paid to teach!
As long as you do your work and follow her directions, you'll be fine. Sometimes the class is boring, but I liked her and I enjoyed taking this class with her. She even gives redos if you mess up. Don't use the book too much at all, but go to class. She remembers most names and takes attendance every day.
she was nice, but her lectures were hard to understand, she would switch off from one topic to another.
All she does is talk about herself the whole class time. She rolls her eyes at students constantly, and is incredibly condescending. This class ruins my day everyday.
Great easy going teacher. Tells alot of funny stories and makes lectures entertaining. Movies are boring, but midterms are easy. She give ALOT of opportunity for extra credit and it is very easy. Best class of the semester
She talks about herself a lot. I have been a straight A student until her class. It isn't hard, at all. In fact, I hated that there were incompetents in my class at the Junior and Senior level in college who did not know what citations were. I received 10's(highest score) on my first 4 assignments out of the 7, and still got a "C." ????
Professor Dias goes out of her way to try to scare and intimidate students and many students drop her class. Her bark is bigger than her bite, but it is not necessary to terrorize students who are serious about their education.
The professor can be demanding and sometimes unreasonable. Tended to frighten students: several dropped the class. Better to take Expository Writing from another instructor if possible
Her tests are super hard she chose her furlough days right around the midterm. Her lectures are horrible she never sticks to the topic and her study guides don't help because you cannot look up any answers in the book! Do NOT Take her
I honestly DO NOT recommend taking this prof at all if there is any way you can take this course with someone else do so.She is nice but the tests are extremely hard. It is very hard to pass this class, her lectures are BORING and she does not lecture on what will be on the test what so ever.
very disorganized, 50% of midterm not coherent to the study guide. goes off on tangents plays catch up with her notes..grading is solemnly on midterm and final..i left the midterm feeling like a failure yet it was a miracle that i got a c- on it.NOT RECOMENDED!!!
If you have any other option, AT ALL, take it. Avoid this prof if you can. She's disorganized, misses class often, doesn't cover the material she tests on, and goes off on completely random tangents when she should be lecturing on the material. Her $70 dollar textbook is worse than useless, and it's a special edition, so good luck selling it.
this was one of the worst professors i've had. when asking for help, her response is useless, and you don't learn a thing!!!!!!!
If you can avoid this class, do it!She is nice but nice doesn't mean good professor. She doesnt help very much. She is disorganized. Her study guide only covered 50% of the test for the midterm. For the final, everything on the study guide was on there! I did get an A in her class so its not impossible.Just go to class and take notes on everything.
Must attend class or you will get behind or lost. If you can follow directions you will pass. The professor is clear and straight forward and will help if asked. A lot of writing but, it is a writing class. The class will make you a better writer. The only thing she refuses to do is write the paper for you! Great Professor.
Extremely disorganized. Lectures are full of useless information, Tests seem to have random insignificant questions that were not covered in lecture, the book or study guide. Missed quite a few sessions.
Very disorganized teacher, who is not helpful at all when students ask questions for the midterms/finals during the review.. Attending the class is mandatory because she will go off on tangents about herself, and then rushing through notes for the test.
Do not take SSCI 306 with this instructor! Shows no interest in teaching the class. When you ask her for help she gives you an attitude and makes you feel stupid. Most of her "lectures" consisted of irrelevant stories about her life. I managed to get an A- due to taking Psyc 311 prior to taking this class. You've been warned...
she lectures from notes that you must print out n follow through class but its sometimes hard to keep up because she jumps to different sections. mmmm yeah
I am glad most people agree, I thought maybe it was just me. Avoid! She is rude, mean, and tries to intimidate. Critiques in a condescending manner. She doesn't seem to like teaching, and doesn't seem to like students. Not helpful at all, and not easy to talk to. You'll leave class in a bad mood.
shes an ok professor. mandatory to go to class. book rarely used. tests based on 90% of HER lecture. print notes offline. goes over the questions that will be on the test about 1 week before the test. SOMETIMES there are questions on the test that were never discussed. overall an OK professor. talks a lot about personal life.
Terrible! Believe me, I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I am a straight A student who studies A LOT, but this was the first class that stressed me out. Her first midterm had questions that were from the readings for the second midterm, which made no sense! Notes are pointless. Study as much as you can, that MAY help you out. Curves BIG TIME!
She does not teach anything that is on the midterm. You cannot read what she writes on the board and she just talks about her stories which have nothing to do with anything. Don't take this teacher you will regret it...
A lot of people seem to think she's rude and disorganized, but I find her delightful. She quirky and has a dry sense of humor, but she is very interested in helping students who are attentive and respectful. She gives study guides for each test and lets you use a notecard during the test. What more can you ask for? Easy A.
DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO TAKE CLASSES WITH SOMEONE ELSE!!! Her lectures make no sense and she mostly talks about her person life. She also loses work and enters the wrong scores on Blackboard. So if you have to take her class keep all of your graded work!
I was totally afraid of taking her after reading the reviews; yes she does intimidate people and sometimes embarrasses them, but I think she wants people to take the class seriously. If you do your work, follow instructions, and seek help, then you'll be fine. Her bark is bigger than her bite. Just don't procrastinate!
Stay away! Take someone else, she is the worst teacher on the face of the earth. She will tell you that people will think you're dumb, but she doesn't like to count past 4! She doesn't know how to grade "takens" is not a word! She thinks your femur is in your arm (its in your leg) and she is supposedly an anthropologist & archaeologist!Don't take!
She is rude and is not helpful at all. She does not use the book, but rather gives lectures out of stories & who knows what else. I do not recommend her at all. Take this class with someone else. Half the time I was confused. She offers ex. credit if you eat a cricket that she brings to class, but thats as exciting as it got. Not a good professor.
NOT A HARD CLASS! If you go to class and do what she tells you to do you will get an A. She lets you re-do any papers that are 7 points and under and if she thinks you can get full credit she will grade it at 7 points (out of 10) so you can do better in the class. Some of the papers were actually interesting to do.
Dias does like to tell stories, but that just means less notes for you to write down. If you are an A student, this is an easy A. If you are not an A student, take notes (very minimal) and give her what she wants! Easy A. If you suck at writing, go to the writing center and they will help you to get an A.
I love her. Just go to class and write how she ask you to and you will get an A.
exam questions were not always based on her "study guides". she was almost always off topic. She didn't show up to class a lot
Expository Writing...the dreaded class. Well, this is an easy class. You only have to write 6 papers, and she lets you redo all but the mid-term and final. There is no reaason not to get a perfect score on all of the papers. She encourages students to utilize the writing lab, and the students that went said it was very helpful.
Do ANYTHING YOU CAN TO TAKE THIS CLASS WITH SOMEONE ELSE!
I got an "A" in spite of her. She was vague about her assignments and - then - if you had the gaul to ask her why you got a bad grade on an assignment, she has an atttude. If your major is a Social Science, take this Expository Writing class with another professor. Trust me, it is not worth the stress.
Terrible professor. She shows up late and talks about random personal stories that are completely irrelevant. She is rude and condescending. She is vague when explaining her assignments and is not very helpful!
She was not helpful whatsoever in teaching anthropology. She would always talk about random things and make you focus on certain parts of her studyguide when none of it was even on the actual test.
I'm convinced you can pass her class on the book alone. Her lectures do not do much for you. :(
Good Professor. Nice. Interesting Class. Easy to follow along if you print out her lecture notes. Overall good course. Book not necessary. Must attend class majority of the time if you want to pass
She has a lot of stories and often gives too much details about them. She somewhat hints at what will be on the midterms, but its hard to actually find things to study. Her information she gives is scattered everywhere and shes hard to follow along with. Her extra credit is worth doing because you may end up needing it trust me!
i dreaded going to this class! but what most people say about her with this class isn't true. she's not that bad. six assignments. you can redo two of them. the final is 10pg research ppr. as long as you go to class every session and follow her instructions you will do great.i wouldn't recommend her for anthro but for ssci306, yeah. i got an A
Isn't that bad. Really helpful. Guides you through the papers, tells you what she expects. Sarcasm may come off as offensive to some, but not a big deal. 6 papers. Can redo 2. Last one is a 10 page research paper, which she gives you the last 2 weeks to work on, but I'd start before that. Overall, would recommend. If still unsure, see for yourself!
It was very difficult to follow along in lectures since she does not use powerpoints; everything is spoken. I didn't buy the book but managed to get a B+ in the class thanks to the extra credit. DO the extra credit it will help ALOT!
6 papers yes-most are 2 pgs,1 is a resume, which most people already have. She is VERY clear on what she wants. Take notes from what she says, follow her directions & you'll get an A. I didn't do any extra credit. People who don't do well don't follow instructions. You will learn a lot too. It's mostly formatting in APA, & she gives sample papers.
Condescending and arrogant. Sometimes I felt offended by some of her commentary. Otherwise, the class is very doable and she us a stickler for apa format down to the minutest of detail...but that is a good thing.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She has no power points, and her online notes are just an outline of what she will be discussing in class. She gets off topic and jumps around the notes. She has two midterms and a final. If you are a visual learner like i am then do not take this class. I did not like this class at all.
SIMPLY DO NOT TAKE HER! Worst professor i ever had ! Nothing she says relates to her tests!!
Horrible teacher, she is very rude. Please do not take her, she is very confusing and the study guides don't make sense. Worse professor Ive had at CSUSB...
This class is super easy if you pay attention to her. at first when i started the class i really did not like it. but she makes the class interesting. Not gonna lie it does get boring. But if you do the study guides you will be fine because it the same thing as the test.
I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER FOR THE CLASS SHE WILL CALL YOUR PAPER JUNK! RIGHT TO YOUR FACE I HAD TO REPORT HER TO THE DEAN BEWARE IF YOU REALLY WANT TO ADVANCE IN YOUR EDUCATION DO NOT!! TAKE THIS CLASS WITH DIAS! SHE IS RUDE TO STUDTS AND CANCELLS CLASS A LOT HOW DOES SHE EXPECT US TO LEARN IF SHE DOESN'T SHOW UP TO CLASS TO TEACH!!RIDICULOUS
The study guides do not help, she rambles about nonsense. If you can get a different teacher, then you should.
She talks about her job and unrelated things. she talks about her life more than the material. Do not take her get someone else.
She is very difficult to understand, but if you ask enough questions, she'll clarify for you. She does not give a prompt for her essays and gives us a lot of info that was kind of useless. Only get the Random House and APA booklet. She has good intentions with her methods, but they are difficult to understand. She is a bit rude sometimes.
I honestly do not recommend her. She has no power points only and outline. She will answer any question you may have but she jumps around way too much to keep track. She give useless information that is irrelevant to the test. Also some material that will show up on the test that she did not talk about in class or mentioned in the book.
A good portion of her lectures are her stories, which can be interesting. Go to class though because she does provide information for the exams, and use the study guides. It's really helpful too that she lets you use a flashcard, which I filled with the answers to the study guide. Got an A in the class :)
Do not take this class, I repeat do NOT take this class with this professor. She is honestly the worst professor at CSUSB. She's unfair and says very rude comments. She has her favorites and will give them a better score. WORST PROFESSOR. EVER. She knows you need this class and she will say rude comments about it. This class will NOT benefit you.
Listen to the other reviews, they are true (the bad ones). She is really tough and her grading is so confusing. Don't take her. Just a warning.
If you put in effort, do the extra credit, and get help from the writing center, this class is not that bad. If you are a good writer already and you put effort into your work, you shouldn't worry. People who rated her badly probably aren't the best writers, and she is not a lenient grader but you will learn alot about APA.
Dias is a very interesting and informed professor. I really enjoyed her class. The one thing that bummed me out was that our grade was based on 3 exams, no homework or quizzes. 1 extra credit assignment can be done for a pretty significant amount of pts, if done well. But its a lengthy book that must be read and dissected. Allows notecard for exams
I won't say she's the best! Boring, confusing, stories, no book, allows you to use notecards!
I strongly recommend taking another professor for this class if possible. The comments about her rambling on about irrelevant topics are true. She literally begins to lecture at first but then gets off topic and never gets to her point across clearly. She also NO LONGER allows us to use notecards on midterms:(
yeah.. to sum it up, you learn more about anthro through the multiple videos that you watch than the teacher. She rambles almost every time she talks, doesn't use Power point or any visual form of notes. It is hard to differentiate notes from rambling. Shes mean, and almost doesn't seem to care about a single person in the class. save yourself.
The best way to describe this professor is cranky and angry. All she does is talk about her personal life, yet she expects you to know random in-depth concepts on her midterms and final. Worst professor I've had yet. Do not recommend.
Half of the lecture she's OFF topic! Does not make course understandable, does not clarify. Gives information that is not even correct according to online credible sources. Is not thorough enough. Book? not needed!!
Dear God, what did I deserve to take this class? Didn't check professor rating, got burned 4 it. Mid Terms were BALLS HARD. Jesus Christ. If you loved being confused during lectures and finals and enjoy 2 hr long movies to answer 15 questions a test, then Dias is for you. You have to love history to pass. Jesus christ. Never again. 210.
Study the class notes and her lecture and the free studyguide she gives you (word for word on the test) and you'll do good. Book has some of the answers. Do the extra credit which is a book review will help you save your grade. The test are trick q's yes or no so do your hw, record lectures is also helpful ;) do this and you pass with A or B.
Amazing teacher! Take really good notes and pay attention during lecture and the book would not be necessary, that means attend class. One thing, her study guides do not help, but if your notes are decent, the study guide is not necessary. I passed with an A, which is rare.
She goes off topic ALOT. She tends to focus on herself more than the actual material. The lectures were long and boring. no book required. Only good part of this class was she allowed a note card for the tests. Overall, I do NOT recommend taking her. just don't..
Took her for SSCI 306... She's not THAT bad, she just doesn't have the tolerance for students that don't take the course seriously. You MUST attend ALL classes! She is very specific on what and how she wants your papers written, but only gives this information in class - attend! Got an A
Grading is very very easy, theres 3 tests and u just hve to get 40% or higher on each test to get a C better
easy class if you 1) print notes 2) attend class EVERY TIME and PAY ATTENTION because EVERYTHING she talks about is on the TEST!! even if it seems like small details (WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN thats not on the notes already!!) and lastly 3) MUST STUDY AND REVIEW NOTES. if you do all that, you dont need the book!! also, do the extra credit!! it helps
Basically this class was just way too boring. Tests were based off the boring lectures, it was just her talking, no power point, or anything. If you love professors that love throughout the whole class, you might like this, but if you are more like me, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. In more positive views, she's a funny and nice individual.
Basically this class was just way too boring. Tests were based off the boring lectures, it was just her talking, no power point, or anything. If you are a great note-taker and listener you will pass with an A like me. Also, do the extra credit because the final was a bit tricky and I went from a B to an A with the extra credit. Anyone can pass this class with an A, some people are just not willing to put the effort into it.
She is hard to hear and gets off topic a lot. She jumps around the place so taking notes can be difficult. I recommend recording lectures so everything can be heard. Make sure to do the extra credit! It will definitely help! she has no powerpoints, so come to class
She constantly goes off topic and makes no sense at all. All of her tests are based off of lecture and sometimes she doesn't go into deep detail so you miss the question on the test. She doesn't use the book at all so don't buy it. Worst professor I've ever had, would not recommend to anyone.
If it wasn't for her numerous absences I would have given her a 10/10. But because she missed about four times during the quarter I'm going to have to give her a 8/10. There are moments during her lectures that make you doze off but for the most part I found her class very interesting. I just wish she wouldnt have missed so much.
She goes off topic a lot and misses a lot of lectures. The study guides don't help much. The class is hard but not impossible to pass as long as you read the lectures and study!
The class is boring, she doesn't use powerpoints, and she goes off topic a lot. That being said the class is very passable. Study with quizlet and reread notes you taken in class and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT it helps a lot.
Horrible professor, she doesn't give out correct information. Majority of her lectures are of her personal stories and she misses a lot of days. Ask her to clarify somethings and she'll give you attitude but will answer you.
her class is somewhat easy to pass you just need to pass one test and you'll be good. her lessons are EXTREMELY boring she goes off topic a lot and never gets to the point until the last 10 mins. would recommend taking someone else
Don't take this class unless you want to work as hard as an upper division course. Mainly study on your own or memorize all the information given if you want an A plus do the extra credit because she doesn't even read them (she'll give you full credit). Took this course got a D, took it again and got an A. Good luck!
Honestly she is really not bad, just go to class and take notes. If you're not a quick writer then bring your laptop she pretty quick at talking. She gets off topic a lot. Expect a lot to of movies to be shown in the lecture(it will be on the exam). Total of 3 exams not the easiest but if you have all the notes you'll do fine. Do the extra credit!
Doesn't know how to pronounce her last name. Tough grader. Gets side tracked easily. Her tests are tricky. Wouldn't take again
She tends to rant on and on about topics that matter more to her than the actual class' subject matter. She pretty much turned anthropology into archeology, as that is clearly her focus. She threatened to fail the whole class when a video of hers seemed to have gone missing. She also threatened the class right before the first midterm. Bad show.
Okay seriously though, i was so stressed after i read other reviews on here about her. But shes not bad AT ALL. I only went to class about 3 times all quarter. Im not kidding. She does not post notes nor does she provide a slide show. Just do the review and look on quizlet. And do the EC. (She doesnt even read it) 40% in the class is passing.
This class was not difficult but it was extremely boring. Does not do powerpoints, she just talks and tends to rant on. Just study the notes and study using quizlet.
I gave her a level 3 difficulty just because shes no help. You have to study on your own. She talks about irrelevant stuff and then towards the end she goes fast because she wasted so much time. I mean its not hard, I just never saw the point in being there. The good thing is that she gives you hints on whats going to be on her test so record that
Very easy class in my opinion. Everything she says in lectures will be on the test. Best of all, NO BOOK! People who fail don't go to class, also lectures sometimes feel long but she makes it up by adding stories to teach.
Before taking her class I had heard she was an awful professor. However, when I took her class I found them very interesting, she gives her lectures as if she is telling a story. I recommend recording her lectures, sitting in the front and go to her office hours.
She does not explain very well during her lectures. Don't miss class. Sit in the front. Take bomb notes.
if you want to pass the class, take advantage of the extra credit, she doesnt even read it. Also attend every class possible because she doesn't use powerpoints. The professor also misses alot of classes. So be prepared for that.
Overall not a hard class. She misses a lot of her classes and is no help. best advice, study your notes, do the review for the midterm and final, and the extra credit and you'll do fine. Lectures are super boring!!!!!! She would put me to sleep! Some lectures were better than others though, but she teaches and then rumbles off.
The most boring professor I've had thus far. Exams are based heavily on the lectures, so I would recommend going.
Not a hard class if you put in the work. SUPER Boring lectures. No powerpoints. She goes off topic constantly. Take notes, read the book, do the extra credit and you should be fine.
This class was super boring. The only thing I found entertaining about it was when she would tell stories about her and her husband. I probably went to less than half the lectures and passed with a B (don't ask how, cause I don't remember). Overall, I had no interest in the course, I only took it cause I had to.
