If you like taking upper level courses because they are engaging and you get to dive into the material more, then this is not the class or prof for you. This class was straight up memorization and regurgitation. 'Individual' assignments were designed to look like they encouraged independent thinking but everyone who made this mistake did poorly...

Another commenter stated that most students got 'A's' in this class - which is not only misleading but also impossible. The department has a mandate that class averages be in the B to B- range. Thus, if most students received an A, the remaining would have to have failed in order to meet the required grade range. So, not an easy A class. Just FYI.

Definitely NOT an easy elective. It is possible to get an A, but to do well on the quizzes you need to know the material inside out, and there is a heavy amount of material. The weekly blog posts are graded harshly (make sure to follow exact word count and check references). However, the written assignment and the final exam were graded leniently.

Not the easiest, but not the hardest elective neither. Lots of material but thankfully it's an online class with no final so all open-book. Blog posts graded harshly (depends on your TA) and quizzes 2 and 3 are pretty hard. I think the final paper was graded more leniently. Possible to get an A with hard work.

I took this as an elective but regretted it horribly. The course had way to many lectures and way too much reading. You seem to be required to know everything there seems to be known about the Soloman Islands for some reason, I guess the prof went there and worked there but a-lot of grading comes from this. Which I think is ridiculous.

I don't know what Dr. Jourdan is like in a regular class setting, but for this online class the only contact I had with the prof was via her retro video/audio lessons. As this was an online class, I can only grade the course. 3 open-book quizzes and don't be fooled by that. The 1st one was easy, the last 2 were very hard. The final was especially hard as we knew the topics beforehand, but that did not make it any easier to study for as we didn't know the questions. Unsure to recommend or not.

Not great, wouldn't recommend. Course is designed so the professor does not actually have to do any teaching.
