Her class is pretty easy(i didn't even turn in the paper & got an A), you watch a lot of slides, just show up for the review before the test & she goes over everything. She tries to be funny but she's not, and her giant "sunglasses" are very di
this class is very boring, all u do is just sit there and watch slides. its so dark in there u might actually fall asleep. just show up 4 review days and u'll b fine.

she makes it seem easy with quizzes then slams everyone with impossible midterms and finals. and she rambles a lot about stuff you don't need to know. it's hard to figure out what you need to know for the test and whether she' talking just for the sake of talking.
the quizes are easy then she gives you tests which she doesnt reallie give you a study guide for so you dont really know what you need to study and when you go to her n ask for help shes really vague and tells you what you already know
She is very monotone and doesn't make you interested at all. She turns the lights out and shows slides the whole time. It's pointless and if you really want to learn take someone else. On top of that it's a hard class!
Very hard class, yet the teacher isnt bad like people are saying. She is sweet and knows what shes talking about. If people stop falling asleep in class and listen, you'll learn something. Her tests and questions are very hard and topics are sometimes unpredictable...but thats why you study, right?
Quizes are easy...mainly memorizing. Tests are really hard...stock up on points with the quizes to brace for the exams...i was surprised to pass with a B after doing pretty bad on midterm and final.
The class itself was easy as long as you took notes! The finals were hard but the quizzes are a piece of cake once you understand what she is looking for.
PRAY! Pray that you won't fall asleep in class. Pray that you'll pass her impossible midterm/final. Pray that you wont kill her. Just pray! BY FAR THE MOST BBOORRINNNGG CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN (and ive taken alot)!! PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Its eternal HELLFIRE in the form of a class! OH LORD!
She covers every single thing that is on the test. It is impossible not to pass this class with the way she prepares you. She has an old persons sence of humor, but it makes you laugh because it's so out there. She is nice and easy going. I don't have any complaints.
CAUTION THIS IS ONE BOARING CLASS.
her class is insane. her quizzes and most of the midterm/final is made up of her showing slides and you writing down (from memory) the artist, time period, type, title, etc etc. it doesn't sound so bad, but it's scary. the teacher isn't bad, the tests are killer.
Wow. I am surprised at the comments below. This class isn't boring if you are interested in art. The tests are extremely simple; she practically gives you all the answers before hand. It's impossible not to pass this class. I think the comments below are just from lazy people. & there's xtra cerdit.
The day before the test she gives you all the questions and answers, however, she is boring
I dont understand why anyone would write badly about her.She is the most understanding and helpful teacher.Always gives extra credit&make ups.The vocab-answers for the quiz are @ the library front desk. She gives a study guide,if you cant memorize the names and TIME PERIOD date(NOT spec. date of each art work)then you have greater problems ahead.
Mrs. Marx is basically a really nice teacher and person. Personally, I found that my interest in the class increased over time, especially when the history of art was discussed. Overall, a pleasant, good teacher. I would definitely take another class with Mrs. Marx.
the tests and quizes are all about memorized information (names, dates, terms, etc), theirfore for me they were very, vey hard. otherwise marx is a sweet lady, and always willing to help you out if you talk to her about it.
I swear I pretty much fell asleep in every class! SO boring! All you do is look at slides for the WHOLE class period, and she hardly ever lets you go early. Tests are kind of hard, but her study guides definitely help. There are a few opportunities for extra credit. I ended up with an A.
boring
I managed to fall asleep during every class session, and I would say that I have the longest attention span of anyone I know. There's no personal touch to anything that she teaches. It's all straight facts from the books; very very boring.
she is so boring i can hardly stay awake and she talks from the book... lets us out late and i dont learn anything from her lectures so its a waste to go to class
uhg! she has lipstick on her teeth and she wears socks with sandals!
SHE SUCKS! oh man if u can avoid art history do it at all costs. Horrible class and teacher
no point going to class.. most boring teacher... u really have 2 work on your own to get the A, heres a tip thats been workin for me: make flash cards.. as much work it is to cop the pictures and so on.. its worth the grade u get after..
Awful teacher. She treats you like a child--the first few classes you learn absolutely nothing. Instead, she makes you do ridiculous exercises as a class. Then, when it comes to the material, she practically has the class teach itself! All students are assigned a part of the book to give a presentation on, and she tests you on these. Waste of time.
Never an attempt on her part to prompt class discussion. I don't see how she can take herself seriously, no one is learning here. If you happen to be a robot with photogenic memory (simply regurgitate study guides onto tests), and could give a f**k about the material, this class is for you. An absolute insult to the material covered.
Its hard to explain this class... it was REALLY boring... but easy also. I hardly went to class, and the only thing I studied for was the final and I got the A... I didnt learn anything though, and I wouldn't recommend this class except to people who are not interested in art and just plan on falling asleep everyday in class...
THIS TEACHER SUCKS SHE HAS BAD TEACHING SKILLS NO GOOD DONT TAKE HER THIS IS A WARNING !!!!!!!!
Definitely make flash cards for the quizes and ask for help if you need it! It was hard if you didn't show up or do any work
Don't take this class the teacher is terrible!!
Sad & boring. She really should not be teaching. Does no one at the college listen to students?
wow, everyone below me is just stupid. anyone with half a brain does well in this class, it is not demanding at all, just go to class, take notes, watch slides - thats it. the tests are not difficult at all either.
i took art hist(prehist-goth) and it was extremely boring for me cuz it was a lot of hist about the people. you have to study alot for the quizzes and tests. art appr. was waayy more enjoyable, loved the class, looked forward to it, easier tests-you dont need to read the book hardly @ all, i took good notes and studied them and got a high a
she's a really good teacher, she know her stuff, but you have to go to class and take notes, all her tests are based on her notes, she takes role too, so be there! she gives study guides for quizzes, all you have to do is memorize pics on guide and terms she puts in library and you'll know what's on tests...she also gives extra credit,so it's easy
Loved the art but lectures were boring.
very nice lady but the lectures were really boring and the tests were very hard. i studied like crazy but it never seemed like the tests were based on the study guide.
Very nice person. Very knowledgable about the subject. The class was interesting. The tests were harder than I had anticipated, but manageable if you take thorough notes and put in a fair amount of effort before the tests. You will need to do some work, but it's well worth it.
Very boring class, hard tests, and she didn't have a study guide for the final. Her quizzes are based on memorizing the subjects in the book and shown during her lectures. Zero student involvement during the classes, she talks and lectures using an overhead projector the entire time. Do your self a favor and don't take her class.
Tests were unreasonably hard. I studied her study guide and it was completely irrelevent to what she actually asked on the test. Dont take her. Her whole class is just flipping through slides of paintings
One of the worst teachers I have ever encountered. She grades unreasonably and her tests were ridiculous - even though I put a lot of effort into studying. She knows her subject but seems to have a hard time conveying it to the class. Was unapproachable. Honestly, I felt like I was back in Middle School. Definitely NOT recommended.
by far, one of the worst professors I have ever had. highly recommend finding a different teacher if interested in this course.. that is, if you want to learn anything. grades unreasonably. tests make no sense and are completely ridiculous. mor than half of my class D or F. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
WOW! this teacher is soo boring, i wake up to go back to sleep in her class. she is a nice teacher and all butttt her tests are rediculously hard. she gives u a study guide and goes over the study guide the day before the test which is cool but the way she makes her tests are so hard.if were u if u like art and wanna learn don't take her! SERIOUSL
You will be lost! Avoid! Class consists of 1:20 minute lecture. No questions, constant writing.
Seriously this lady is so rude. We had a kid with special needs and she was so unnecessarily impolite to him and he was the only one who paid attention to her long lectures. If you have to take her make sure you go to class she will like you better. Still don’t understand how her grading works but her class is passable.
She's okay. She's a nice lady and sometimes class is interesting. She was pretty good when teaching about the High Renaissance and Rembrandt...but other than that it's pretty boring. But if you need an Art, it's not too bad, just not very inspiring.
She is very fair. A lot of monotonous overhead projector style notes, but her grading is very fair and she knows her stuff. She's a lot more fun if you are fun. NO HOMEWORK!
.. hard class. Especially if you could care less about art history! The midterm and final are absolutely impossible so do well on the quizzes and make flashcards to make it through. If you do the extra credit, she's actually a really fair grader, and you'll be surprised with a better grade than you thought you were getting at the end of the clas
People say that she is boring. Yes she is the only thing that I notice is that she teaches like she is really enjoying her cours. She is always alive when it comes to Art Appreciation. She always smiles but the problem is that she can't make the whole class alive
Will never ever take another course offered by her again!
this class was awful. yes, she knows the criteria but the way she teaches it makes you completely disinterested. she teaches to the last minute and takes attendance in literally the last 2 minutes of class. the quizzes suck and take forever to study for, and the midterm/final are impossible. don't take this class.
She teaches with joy but in contrast of her student's interest on her subject. She relies too much on overhead projector and only stops at the end to ask Any Quetions Class? Her lesson is always 10 pages talk and it is true that attendance is on last minute. Lastly she typically repeats a certain topic from the past which will make you annoyed.
She is fine, and she loves her subject. Her speech is clear but goes either too fast or too slow. I love all of the pictures/info we study, but what students are responsible for remembering is ridiculous (like 60 different paintings, all with different periods and times+ for a quiz). I am an A student and am probably getting a C in this class.
I'm sorry, but this woman makes me want to never pick up a paint brush again. I don't know how, but she makes art seem like the most boring and useless thing on the face of this earth. She never stopped once to explain how a name was spelled or why his or her work was relevant. If you can help it, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You will fall asleep/die.
Everyone is saying she's boring, but she *is* trying to teach a history class after all. She is a nice woman, practically hands you the answers to the quizzes in her study guides, is very clear and seems to know her stuff and enjoy art history. If you actually want to learn art history and have an understanding, easy teacher, take her.
Way too hard
DO NOT TAKE HER, I AM AN A STUDENT, AND I GOT A FAIL. HER TESTS ARE LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS, AND YOU MUST MEMORIZE THINGS ARENT IN THE BOOK, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE
The first to weeks she lectures and doesn't let many questions, but once she is comfortable with the class, she is extremely nice, excited to teach and lets you ask however many questions. Her quizzes are EXTREMELY easy because she gives a study guide that basically tells you the answers. She knows what she is talking about.
Pros: No homework, short class, half-helpful study guides Cons: Boring lectures, tests are difficult because you have NO idea what will be on them(10 Q and 10 slides=not much mess up room)If you're a(n) A-B student=C, C-D student=D, F student, well, don't bother.
I second everything the commenter before me said. Took this class in the Spring and just barley skimmed by with a C (I have a 3.55 GPA). The teacher is nice and will work with you to keep your grade afloat...but honestly the only way you're acing this class is if you love art history. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY AND ALL SIDE PROJECTS/EXTRA CREDIT.
This class requires quite a bit of sudying. Not an easy A at all however if you just study the study guides she gives you, you will pass the class for sure. Not easy but, if you have a few hours to study the work before the tests, you will pass. She is really not all that bad. Nice lady, enjoys discussing the art with those who are interested.
Take Zoraster. Marx knows the subject of Art History well, but lacks how to teach it
plan on taking a pillow to class because there is a high possibility that you will fall asleep!!!
I had a very difficult time in this class. I did not expect to have to memorize the artist's name, the name of the piece, the period it was made in, and the date of it for 50 paintings. She only chooses 10 for the quizes which makes it very stressful.
5+++++++++++
She is a nice woman but a HORRIBLE teacher i am basically getting a D in her class and im onot even done with the semester and I'm an art major. This is such a horrible class dont ever take it with her!!!EVERRR
Also an art major not doing well in her class. Her apparent disdain for students and the fact that EVERY day of class (literally, from the first day to the last, only excluding test days) is a lecture and slideshow creates an atmosphere that jus isn't conducive for learning. She simply doesn't seem to care, at all.
Although it is very boring,im an art major have to take it.If you are dedicated and use to studying it should be easy. Didn't use the book in class but had 2 papers with your choice of essay format or outline form...so easy! also pictures are in the book that must be memorized. Easy A! good teacher :)
LOTS of material-you are expected to KNOW it-uses concepts from text, but tests are based mostly on notes-don't miss a session cuz a lot of the material won't be found in the book. Test questions can be ambiguous, but overall, a great class and a good teacher-just show up and TAKE GOOD NOTES.
I loved this class. Good teacher loved her sence of humor. She gives you plenty of time to study for test and pretty much gives you all the awnsers. There is alot to memorize though. I wouldn't recommend taking this class inless you are actually interested in the subject matter but I loved it.
Pretty easy course if you study. Alot of memorization. Barely any hw, but very boring unless you are interested in the topic.
Old school teaching style- stands at podium, lectures w/ slides. Not much interaction in fact raised hands often go unnoticed bc she is so focused on delivering her lecture. She's kinda scattered/unorganized, we had to do the last two exams back to back in the last 2 weeks of class. Expect to proactivly self-teach from book and her study guides.
You have to go to class and take notes. If you don't use a laptop good luck. This is the hardest class I have ever taken. The teacher is nice, but if you expect to sleep in class don't. Super hard.
She always gives advance notice before all quizzes etc.. just definitely pay attention and take notes and make sure to be familiar with key terms..Only had a book half the semester and had poor attendance at first, but with a project that shows relevancy and paying extra attention and focusing at the end got me an A!:) good students will do well.
best teacher ever she is really funny and awesome to talk to. you can tell she is kind of a grump but she is really funny if you like dark humor. she is VERY clear about what she wants, gives plenty of heads up for tests. you HAVE to listen and take notes or you will fail. classes are a bit boring if you don't love art but she is funny to listen to
Take her class if you want an easy A. She takes role but I rarely showed up to class and got a B. Missed 3 quizzes and got A's on all the quizzes and tests. Quizzes are easy and tests are take home Used my textbook a lot for reference. Very slow class lots of slides took minimal notes and still did well. Do final project if you want a better grade.
Not an easy A, but a do-able A if you do the work. Most test material is from the notes. Do your reading, then make a note of whats covered in lecture-that's what on the exams. One art project required, a couple of little take-home exercises, but otherwise, no big deal. She's a funny lady with a dry sense of humor. I loved this class!
One of the worst professors. very unclear of the subject matter. does not have prepared notes, presents information off the top of her head and nonchalantly skips along sections without specifying the importance of each section . all around terrible teacher with the worst outline/study guides i have ever encountered
I don't want to say that she is the worst teacher, but she needs to update her teaching ways.. Using a power point and a red laser pointer is so useless. She is very boring and it's extremely hard to stay awake during her classes. The study guides for the test are not helpful. I would not recommend for ANYONE who cares about their grades.
She is very knowledgeable about her topics & has a dry sense of humor. She shows up to every class late and you have to stay after class to sign in on the roll sheet. Attendance is VERY important. And yes, it is a COLLEGE course, so you will have to study and memorize the "old school way" that others were complaining about. Your parents did it!!
I wish I would've taken the class with another teacher. She isn't clear on what to study for the quizzes, passes around an attendance sheet at the very end of class so you have to wait for it, and is unclear during lectures. Exams are take home but the answers in the book aren't always correct on the test & we took the midterm a week before finals.
I honestly don't know why she gets a bad rep. She's amazing, she's got dry dark humor but it's funny, she knows what he's talking about and if you listen you know exactly what to do.Just show up and actually listen rather then goof around and you'll get an A. Very little if any HW,easy tests,I never used the book in all three of her classes.Take her.
Very nice and understanding lady. Memorize everything on the study guides, cause its all on the mid & final. Quizzes are just image recognition, no writing components. Keep up with which artists she emphasizes in class and you'll be good to go. No homework or assignments whatsoever. Class is hard to get through awake, but not as boring as others.
Easy, straightforward class. Just show up, pay attention and take notes (mainly on the study guides) and you'll be fine. Didn't need to use the textbook except at the very end. Others in her class would goof off or leave early, then later complain about their test grades. Good teacher, would recommend.
took this class last semester and was the most boring college class i have taken so far. i never used the book, even though it said it was required, and the tests were really hard. hard to follow, and you find yourself losing interest after about 10 minutes of lecture, every day. all in all, glad its over and i don't have to take it again.
DO NOT bother taking this class. WORST way of teaching (power point + red laser), doesn't teach material clearly, study guides aren't easy to work with neither are the test. MID-TERM AND FINAL are hard beyond words. Extremely boring. I LOVE art and this class made me hate it.
Do not take this class if you art isn't your thing. So horrible.... Memorizing the art isn't the hard part. It's the random multiple choice questions that come from nowhere. Good luck young ones..
DO NOT take this class! I have never been so irritated with a class before. She always beats around the bush when questions are asked, the power points are pretty much useless, and she talks straight from her binder and does not care if you understand the information or not. AGAIN, DOOOO NOOOOT TAKE HERRRR!!!!
the class was interesting and the professor was clear and helpful.
Showing up only 50% of the time you could easily pass. Her lectures are easy to determine what will be on the test and the material is simple. She gives the study guide two classes before the test, has a review day the lecture before! If you go to that you will easily pass the tests! So easy! If you know basic art skills then you should pass!
I really enjoyed the class. She would make the lectures interesting, with her knowledge of the history and her dry sense of humor. My only regret from the class is that we never got to the modern art section of this source. Other than that I highly recommend her class. Study the study guides and take good notes and you'll do well.
Her classes consisted entirely of lecture with quizzes and a few tests. From the beginning, she told us that everything on the quizzes and tests depended on the notes we took, yet there was a guy I sat next to that never took notes and complained when he got poor grades. Go figure. Would recommend, even if the lectures are a bit boring.
Very knowledgeable and intelligent woman, but if you don't study or show up to class, you will fail. Her tests are very difficult and its hard to focus in class because all of the lectures are so long. She really knows her stuff though.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This class was so hard, she lectured at you the entire semester and then quizzes you on none of what she says. Its all solid memorization of countless works and random questions about things she never mentioned. I'm and AB student and I'm praying for a C in this class.
