It is not a blow off like I thought it would be. She has a huge mid term and final. Interesting class, but a LOT of work. If you give her your mid term and final to proof read, you're guaranteed an A on them

Great Teacher, Probably one of the more intelligent teachers the college has to offer. The class presents a lot of work but you will use this information in your everyday life. She is by far the best teacher I have had at C.O.D
She is a great teacher but gives tons of homework, if you show interest and do your work you will get an A. P.S. her name is spelled Monnier not Monnieux. If you want to learn about Sociology take this teacher.
Very intelligent. One of the best teachers at C.O.D. Lots of work, but the thing is, it is work that is very practical. Do all the work and you will get an A.
Awesome teacher! Definately one of the most knowledgable and french teachers I have had. Take her class if you are genuinely interested in global issues/sociology. She is great!

Dont take online Socio 100. She expects too much 2 be done in a short amount of time. She must think that people who take online classes only have that 1 class no job & no other outside life. Her online explanations werent clear at all. I dropped it after the 1st unit. i took 220H & it was less work
OMG dont take her, you can never miss a class cause you will be behind, you have a ton of hw and there is something due every day! im so upset i took her class! im warning you!
She is a very intelligent teacher. Piles of work assigned and she demands excellence. If you want an interesting class this is it. Good discussions.
She is a very intelligent teacher who knows her stuff. If you are a lazy student,do not take this class but if you are prepared to work hard, take her.I enjoyed her teaching a lot because she makes it fun.I recommend that you take her if you are in school to learn.
This women is a horrible person. She is unclear and unfair and contradictory. I am only going to stay in her class to prove to myself and to her that even though she is horribly harsh, she can't cause failure and bring people down with her attitude, disrespect and unreasonable expectations.
She was one of the most disrespectful teachers i have every had!! Made no effort to answer any of my e-mails and refused to talk to me after class, also you have no idea what she is saying or writing due to the lazyness of her voice/ handwriting. She was very unclear to as what she wanted for assign. I often felt like she graded onhermoodfortheday
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! she is rude, dissrespectfull, would not help me becuase she thought i wasnt worthy of it. i am a strait A student and i failed her class! do not take her
this teacher is horrible! do not take her class, she is one of the worst teachers you will ever have in your entire life!
horrible horrible teacher. she is one of the worst teachers i have ever had in my schooling. i walked into this class, very interested, and was very dissapointed, i usually get really good grades but she failed me!
Took the online class and found it to be organized and learned volumes of interesting things. I have nothing bad to say about her, she was clearly organized and gave a good amount of homework, but not overwhelming amounts. Still one of my favortie classes ever.
Yes, she's hard and gives tons of work but the class is interesting and doesn't get into personal stuff.
She is whats wrong with teaching. She is 100% sure that she knows everything, and that her students are just there to bask in her glory. I admire the lengths she goes to in order to help the environment, but she turned the class into an advertising campaign for amnesty international and anti-world trade organization. If you didnt write her beliefs or say what she wanted to hear, you were in for a TOUGH class.
Interesting class. you learn a lot of stuff but not easy.
Great subject. Poor teaching. Lectured personal opinion that wasn't readily supported. Topics kept my interest though. Would have been a great class if not for her air of superiority.
Monnier has a striaghtforward syllabus and doesnt grade hard so if you fall back with your assignments youll have trouble. Her lectures are the same thing every time but they are decently interesting and I have had far worse. Definitely reccomend her.
Lots of book work, which is time consuming, no shortcuts. She's very knowledgable about her subjects and has no problems correcting people who make ethnocentric ignorant comments in class. I liked her and did well in her class. She's smart which is more than I can say for many profs.
Christine is one of the most knowledgable and compassionate teachers I have come across at COD. Although I did not believe I had any interst in the class prior to attending, I soon realized the importance of our role in a global society. Extremely well organized syllabus and teaching strategy!! Would highly recommend her to all fast trackers!
She is not very helpful at all.
Very opinionated, yet interesting. Unreadable handwriting, so you can't understand her comments on your papers. She's tough, but knows her stuff. Never thought I'd get through the class, but ended up with an A.
Dr. Monnier is a very well-educated teacher. She really brings in interesting conversations. All that we did was have lectures, take some notes, and that's it. Homework, are simple exercises and all the answers are on the computer program that u download. I got a B in there but that's what happens when you're a bad test taker. I recommend her.
I really did enjoy this class. Professor Monnier's lectures sometimes put me to sleep, but overall they were pretty interesting. The exercises are easy points, but I would recomment studying for the tests!
Generally a nice teacher. You must study for her tests and if you have a quuestion about something don't bother e-mailing her, she will never respond. Overall a good teacher.
Ms. Monnier, is a good teacher, her lectures are very interesting, she has an example for almost everything(it makes better to understand). Take her!!!
I took her class online, and there is too much work to do. She expects you to know how to answer five essay questions having read a combined 400 pages of reading and in relation to a video per unit. It was hard to keep up and be sure to include it all. I do not recommend it online at all.
I really enjoyed her class. She made everything seem really interesting and you can tell shes passionate and really knows what shes talking about. I wish I could take another class with her. Just study for the tests and do the excersizes.
She is so BORING! I love going to class but I dreading going to her class. I learned nothing from her lectures. If you don't read and study from the book you won't get higher than a 'C' on the tests.
SHE IS A BRILLIANT TEACHER ABOUT INFORMATION THAT IS NOT NEEDED IN THE CLASS. SHE WILL GO RAMBLING ON ABOUT RANDOM THINGS NOT PERTAINING TO THE CHP. YOU ARE LEARNING. I WOULDNT SUGGEST TAKING HER, BECAUSE SHE ISNT A GOOD TEACHER. I WOULDVE LIKE THE CLASS IF I DIDNT TAKE IT WITHE HER.
She can be entertaining at times but often gets off subject and talks about things completely unrelated to the class. The quizzes and tests are impossible without reading and if you try to get by on her lectures you're out of luck because if you can understand her the information she gives you is slim to none. Large group project that sucks!
The tests are awful, she never replies back to you, her syllabus lacks critical information, and whatever you do to change assignments is never good enough. I have no doubt she knows her stuff, but she doesn't know how to bring herself down to the level of brand new college students. My entry level class was way over my head.
This class is an nightmare. Group projects are 20% of your grade! Tests are very hard, she is not using the book for it, you have to study only from your notes. never gives any feedback, you are on your own
Unbelievable. I'm a straight-A junior, taking her online class to finish up my degree, and am struggling to keep a B. Tests receive essay-responses from her that are extremely detailed, and the class is far above an intro level. I enjoy school, but I'd stay far away from this professor that expects students to be on her level, and grades like it.
I took her online class and it was a LOT of busy work. 4 exams, 1 paper, 4 assignments and 1 writing assignment PER UNIT. However, it was manageable to keep a B. She grades papers very tough. Her syllabus was a little confusing to understand, which caused some problems with my grade- but if you read the 10 page syllabus you will be fine.
This class was difficult, but if you do your reading, take thorough notes, and attend class, you should have no problem passing. I studied vocabulary, skimmed the chapters, and read my notes and I have gotten an A on every test. This isn't high school.. you have to do the work if you want a good grade! I personally enjoyed her as a teacher.
Great lectures! I found her really interesting and fun to listen to. The tests were easy if you paid attention and took notes in class. Sociology with her was great.
Professor Monnier spends the class lecturing, but she was easy and very interesting to pay attention to. If you have a good note taking strategy and pay attention this class will be easy and enjoyable. I really recommend her. If you study for the tests and do well on the book projects it's an easy A. (You can use partners for projects!)
Great teacher. Comes to class early, lectures are prepared and extremely interesting. She is engaged with the class and participation is fun. There are in-class tests, book project papers and in-class group work. Take notes, turn in assignments on time and study using the book and you'll get an A.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had by far. This is suppose to be and INTRO class. I am a straight A student and find her very challenging. I have absolutely no interest to pursue sociology now. She is such a tough grader and I spent HOURS upon hours doing each assignment and then she just knocks off many points. And her accent is difficult
Be prepared to write a number of essays and know your terminology and how to apply it well. On the positive, she really knows her stuff and you will be challenged to think and learn.
I really liked her! Her lectures were very interesting and I feel like I learned a lot about how the world works. Great intro to Sociology. There are some projects and tests, but if you do the projects and study the main terms for test you got it. Take lots of notes!!!!!
Sociology is boring. She does make it pretty interesting though. Really funny and makes things relateable. 3 group projects in class. 3 or so tests. 3 projects on your own or with partner. Textbook is helpful for tests don't need it in class everyday. Take notes in class and pay attention you'll do alright.
Based on lectures with a few book reports and group projects. Tests are challenging, so study. BRs and GPs are tough, but she gives the answers if you ask. She was great and I highly recommend, but she has a very cynical view of the world, so don't take if you don't have the same views. Accent and handwriting can be confusing, but understandable.
The positive is she really knows her stuff but she def a tough grader especially on anything u are writing whether its short questions or essays. The tests are ok. I am a AB student and I got a C in this class. I only need for credit so I guess Ill be ok.
Very thick accent, tough material made much more tough with this instructor. be sure to stay on top of reading assignments and READ THE TEXTBOOK to prepare for tests otherwise you will not do well. I enjoy the class and material, but not the professor
Seriously, how is this an intro class? Ruining A students GPAs with over the top grading coupled with non-descript paper criteria. Complete nonsense.
Took online class. We LITERALLY read entire book except for one chapter. Lots of homework, at least 4 chapters to read, quizzes on each, 2 essays n other busy week. Each unit is like a week and a half. I didn't mind cause I hate going to class and can read and self teach. Do not take online if you can't self teach.
please by all means never ever take a class with this teacher what a joke of a teacher
Her lectures are hard because of her accent and handwriting. Has these book reports that you could do with a partner but they were difficult questions that had nothing to do with them or the lectures. Same with this group project. Once she even told us an answer and still marked it wrong. 3 exams that were 70 multiple choice q's. Overall not good.
I think if the work she had assigned was in a 16 week and not 8 week class, everything would be fine. Though she knows the material and is giving assignments to gain more understanding of the world through the sociological lens- it's so much work you spend your time just trying to pass instead of truly beginning to understand...
Hard to understand lecture because of her accent and handwriting. Group projects/book reports are hard because of the questions relevance to the topics covered in lecture/book. When you try to get help she won't and when she does it's always useless info. Tests are multiple choice but 70 questions that are based on book/lecture so you're screwed.
Please save yourself from this train wreck of a class. This is supposed to be an intro class and the expectations she has for it are as if it's a 300 or 400 level class at a university. She's not helpful whatsoever in fact one time she gave us the WRONG answer. If this is the only section left for the semester wait to sign up with someone else!!
very thick accent, talks the whole class period and then lets you by yourself in the projects, no make up for quizzes, no make up for projects, honestly, if I knew that rate my profesor existed before I took her class I would not take it with the rates she has dont take that risk
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Knows the subject and knows how to teach it. Uses great textbooks and assigns practical and real-world related projects. Her classes are challenging but you learn a lot. It's college so expect to be challenged. Doesn't accept late work!or incompletes. Accessible if you need help. You get what you give here.
She has a problem with everyone. Lots of homework, not care about students. Not nice, Not helpful. She likes to receive a complaint from students, this way she could show her power to the sociology department means nobody can change me or do anything against me I do whatever I want to do.
She should have her teaching licence revoked. DO NOT TAKE.
Took her for an online class. Teachers are supposed to be easily contacted over email. She wont even respond,
HORRIBLE TEACHER. STAY AWAY. SHOULD NOT WORK AS A TEACHER BECAUSE SHE WONT CARE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR EDUCATION. TRYING TO ATTEMPT TO TALK TO HER IS A JOKE, SHE WONT CARE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY AT ALL. WARNING WARNING WARNING DO NOT TAKE!!!!
She separates her classes into groups for the entire semester. Luckily, our group actually read the chapters and did well. She assigns documentaries for you to watch, which I personally enjoyed. She's a tough grader because she wants you to think critically. Take this teacher if you want to be WOKE. Just read the chapters, and you'll be fine.
Ms. Monnier is a great instructor. I learned a lot from her course.
I don't know why everyone is saying she is hard... I took her online 8 week course, it was easy. As long as you do the assignments and keep up with the work you'll be more than fine. Only complaint I have is that I finished the course with a 89.3% and she didn't round it up and doesn't respond to emails... otherwise, not a horrible professor.
ALERT..!!! DONT TAKE HER..!! SHE IS THE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER TAKEN SO FAR. VERY TOUGH GRADER.
If you are taking it online, expect that there would be reading. NOT ONLY THE CHAPTERS ASSIGNED BUT ALSO A LOT OF RESEARCH PAPERS!! She would give you 2-3 Research papers and each is 20 pages long! So if you have family or you are so busy, don't even try and register for this class because it would take over your life.
Lets just say she started with almost 30 students and ended up with 7 kids in the class. Lecture heavy,THICK Accent, isn't helpful. she is not a good teacher at all. DON'T take her. she made intro to sociology way to difficult and got off topic too much about other topics as of history and talked about politics for almost 2 months.
If you are someone who needs to be pushed to achieve your maximum potential, then I suggest this professor for you. She can be a tough and picky grader but I think its only because she wants to exploit your greatest qualities. With that said, professor Monnier is very knowledgeable about her field of study, which is a big plus.
Professor Monnier was amazing. Her lectures were literally like her telling a stories, every single day. Telling us why specific events happened and the reasons behind them. I couldnt tell you how many times I got chills down my spine. Really does open your eyes to showing how messed up the world is, though.
After reading the online reviews and seeing the syllabus, I quickly changed to a different online course with a different instructor. One-fifth of the workload if not even less in comparison with a different instructor but same 8-week online. What a relief. I would agree with reviews from what I was from syllabus of a 100 course intro class.
You can spend hours working on one assignment and if you do one thing she doesn't like, you'll just get a fat 0. And there are tons of assignments. Not very friendly or helpful, she's the kind of professor that just tells you to look at the syllabus when you have a question. Would not recommend at all
Not good at all. All of her tests are mixed up in different order so you can't figure out what she's talking about when she says "the previous question." She is absolutely terrible at responding to emails and when she does, she is not helpful. Very mean, very unfair grader, will not compromise with any student at all. STAY AWAY FROM HER CLASSES!
would not recommend taking this class. So much work to do for an online class its ridiculous. Does not respond to emails and is a very tough grader. got a B even though i did all assignments
Horrible teacher does not know how to be a good teacher. Very rude and does not help hen you ask for it.
beware!!!RUNNNNN DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Professor Monnier is a tough grader, but she knows the material and teaches it well. It can be challenging, but I learned a lot because of it. She also offers a ton of extra credit.
I have literally never written a review on a professor however, Monnier is horrendous. I will never recommend her class to anyone, she is rude! Doesn't respond to emails and has a very bad attitude that comes across even in her teaching. College of Du page needs to fire her, I was so excited to take a sociology class and now I regret choosing hers
If you follow her expectations youll easily get an A. She doesnt accept late work but she gives work weeks in advance so I never missed an assignment. Lots of group work during class. Lectures were helpful and lots of extra credit opportunities!
A really nice smart woman. Long lectures, but very interesting and attention catching.
Absolutely obsessed with mind maps. Asks for a 1 sentence answer then says that there isn't enough detail. Gives exact detail in how assignments should be done to the point that there is no individuality to your assignment. Doesn't respond to emails and then sends out class emails during that time. Overall wants you to read her mind.
I can tell she knows about the field, but this is just one of those instances where experience in the field doesn't translate into teaching proficiency. All the lectures feel so sterile, and R (the coding language for the assignments) is obtuse and hard to work with, even for some with experience in coding. Just learn Python and avoid this class.
Didn't even last a day in her online class. She emails the class 4-5 times, even though its stuff already in blackboard. Her material is too broad and uninteresting, and her assignments are extremely difficult. Didn't want to risk getting a bad grade in my final semester at COD, so I dropped this class and enrolled in a different one.
The course itself was not hard. The chapter quizzes were self explanatory and all in the book. A similar textbook is online for free. Prof Monnier has very high standards and will take points away if they're not met. Email responses weren't helpful. Had to fight for my grade, and told me my opinions were the least of her concern.
Honestly not a very tough grader, and only about 4 assignments a week. Just get good at doing mind maps. An A in this class is 85% or above, and a B is 70% or above. Don't forget this, I didn't turn in anything for Unit 2 because I was thinking about dropping the course due to her Rate My Professor reviews. This is for the 8-week online course.
I took Intro to Sociology from Professor Monnier. The level of homework is quite high but the topics are really interesting. The textbook is really good. Professor M. has a bit of a hard shell, but if shown respect, she is extremely helpful and understanding.
She does not respond to emails and is a very tough grader. Although this was a very interesting course, if I had more background about the professor I would have opted for a different one.
I signed up a week or so later due to problems in my schedule. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend not taking this course with this teacher. Gave me 0 on my quizzes and homework because I signed up late and wouldn't let me make up. Prepare to read a ton and strict grading.
If you're a writer, Professor Monnier is not for you. Her big thing is "mind maps," which is a type of assignment with arbitrary rules and no matter how many you do, you'll never quites ace it. Her grading scale is a bit odd, as an 85% or higher is an "A," but don't be surprised if you're borderline most of the semester.
Worst instructor I have had all of freshman year. Mind maps is the only thing we do to learn about sociology. Even with asking for assistance for an assignment she just replies read the assignment. Don't take sociology with her
horrible professor don't take her unless you want to waste your money
This professor is absolutely horrible, accuses students of cheating/plagarism with no evidence. the topic is interesting but "mind maps" definitely wont teach you about any of it. also every assignment you dp is absolutely nitpicked, you will never be good enough to actually recieve full credit for them. Tests wording is very confusing.
In a few ways she was a little tough because I was attaching the files of my assignments in a different format and she just gave a 0, but however, the grading scale was different compared to usual, and each letter would represent a longer range. Plus, she was kind of lenient on two out of four or five extra credit assignments.
The thing I like about this professor is that the "Textbook Tests" when I took sociology with her, they are not timed! We can save our work and then get back to do the textbook tests whenever we would like. However, I wish that she would let us submit work after the deadline a couple of times, or at least get an additional attempt to submit.
This professor is a very tough grader and does assign a hefty amount of work. I wouldn't really recommend her. She did flag me for using AI once when I didn't, which almost got me kicked out of the class. Luckily I was able to recover and maintain a high grade in this class. She's definitely not the worst professor I've had though.
Would not take this class again. I ended with a B, which was lucky. She grades extremely harsh and you only do mindmaps the whole time. She also accused me of using AI when I didn't and anytime I tried to contact her, she would never respond because she thought I was cheating.
Professor Monnier has a very specific teaching style that can be challenging, but engaging with it pays off. The workload is manageable, and the textbook is helpful. Using tools like Unstuckstudy alongside the required assignments can make this class more manageable.
She's a really tough grader. Instructions aren't clear..I've taken plenty of online courses this was by far one of the worst. Would not take with her again.
She has an attitude. She doesn't like you asking questions she always says have you looked at the syllabus. She is a tough grader; nothing satisfies her. Avoid I dropped her class soc
I should have listened to the reviews. She loves to do the mind mapping and takes away every point possible. There was so much reading to do, and videos to watch. I feel like she gave a ridiculous amount of homework. Trust me, do not take this class you will regret it.
Does not accept any excuses. Very tough grader and does appreciate your efforts and improvement. Instructions are always very unclear and she takes a very long time to respond to your questions, or doesn't respond at all.
She's nice and always there to help you if you need it but she's an insanely tough grader and she can get really behind when it comes to grading. I currently have a C in the class which i'm still surprised I have because of how hard of a grader she is. Course work isn't that bad but she takes the maps way too seriously.
She graded me 0/25 on a mind map because it was nearly impossible to fully understand her instructions. She also critiqued me on my misspelling yet had multiple of her own throughout the entirety of the course. She has you watch lengthy movies and films that are outdated and accuses you of using AI.
She doesn't really respond to emails, and her English grammar is poor. She also places a strong emphasis on history and bases most of her lectures on it. She is very against the use of electronics during her class, but most of the homework she assigns involves documentaries. Her handwriting is extremely illegible. She was an okay professor.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! This professor is a very very hard grader, and will show no empathy whatsoever. Doesn't reply to her emails, assigns a ton of homework and takes forever to grade them. She also loves to accuse people for AI as you can see reading the forum, if you're double thinking taking her class this is your sign to change classes ASAP
