not much content in lecture/very easy

Dr. Neal was really nice. Museum Studies is a pretty easy class anyway, but I really did get interested in it eventually. She's understanding and enthusiastic about art history.
not a very interesting class- cur.&coll. mngmnt. just act like you know more than her and she'll LOVE---no, ADORE---you
helpfull tip: get a tape recorder if u sleep alot and tape the lesson while u sleep , I took notes and slept most of the class and got a B
boring. nice but extremely boring.
I love her! She is like a mom.
I love Dr. Neal, she is a great teacher and really understanding. She drops the lowest test score, allows you to come in to a different class if you accidentally sleep in, and also lets the class go early almost everyday. She really loves what she teaches and her tests are clear-cut and straight forward. DEFINATELY GET DR. NEAL!!!
Easiest professor you're likely to come across. Tests are 10-15 IDs, short answer, compare/contrast, and a few vocab. She wants everything in bullet point format, so not much real writing. Tests are mind numbingly easy, and so is the class. If you want to be thrilled, you'll be disappointed, but take her if you want to just get through the class.
Really easy
Wonderful professor. I've talked to my friends about their Art History professors and it sounds like Neal is definitely the best. Outside of the 5 tests you'll have, you may only have one other paper to write. She drops the lowest test grade too. Just pay attention and study and you'll do fine in her class.
A pretty easy class. Neal is understanding but kind of boring. Each test is 10 slide ids, 5 unknowns, 5 vocab words, a compare/contrast, general questions about the time period, and one focus question on a important piece of art. If you take notes in class you can skim the reading. You HAVE to study, but if you do it's a pretty easy A.
Before attending SCAD I was terrified of taking art history classes. Prof Neal is one of the best professors that I have ever had. She is very organized, smart and engaging. Very productive and I learned more that I thought that I could. I highly recommend her for any class that she teaches, you will definetly benefit from it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice teacher. She's brief and cuts to the point.
A wonderful professor! She is very approachable and nice. I once had to miss two classes for a film and she let me come at another time, no problem. Listen in lectures and study, you will make an A. I really enjoyed her and would take her again, I just wish she taught the second level of this class, I wish I could take her again.
We had 3 field trips, one presentation (verbal) on how museums deal with our major, and an essay. She is tough on grammer and spelling, she is tough on tests...you will be graded HARD. Last test was worded strange, and most things were not on the study sheet she gave for us.
Dr. Neal is a great professor. Her class is informative and interesting, despite its early hour. She doesn't overload you with information and her tests are very straight forward. Take notes during her lectures and study, and you'll do just fine. It was a fairly easy course, but I definitely learned from the class. Take Dr. Neal!
very unclear on guidelines and not helpful at all
I really liked professor Neal. Her class was interesting and you don't have to write tons of essays. Only one along with a project toward midterms, but that's it and it's not difficult. I would recommend her.
Good online class. I recommend her.
Prof Neal is nice. Her class took a lot of my focus/attention during the quarter. The exam's are long and involve a lot of writing. You have to study and take notes. No quizzes just tests, a couple of essays, and an artistic project. I learned a lot from this class and found it interesting. Take her if you know you will study, take notes.
I loved professor Neal! She is just so nice and understanding. She will congratulate you for your hard work when you get good grades. Took her online and made an A! If you do your work and read the book you will ace the test. Online i just used my book for test and quizzes. Take professor Neal. You'll love her.
Prof Neal was very informative and her tests aren't too bad, as long as you take notes during her lectures and don't fall asleep in her class you'll be fine. It's a lot of memorization, but so is every other ARTH class. She was nice and energetic in her lectures.
Neal was very kind and down to earth. Though she was formal in class it was very easy to strike up a conversation with her outside of class. She gives you all the info you need to get an A and I actually though I did bad on some tests and got A's. If you study you'll be fine and you only need to skim the book to get extra information if needed.
Best ARTH 100 professor by far. I was a little weary about art history at first but she made the experience highly enjoyable. I learned tons more then I expected and her lectures really stick! Her tests are pretty fair. Just make sure you're always writing notes and studying with flash cards!
Do not take this class. Many of the comments here are false. Her class is extremely difficult and her exams are roughly 70% of the grade. Though she may not be essay or homework heavy, she makes up with it with those exams. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT take Neal.
Are the tests most of the grade? Yes. But that's a lot of other classes. Neal is great bc the 5 tests aren't all that difficult (especially if you take good notes and listen in class), and there is minimal out of class work (aside from studying). Oh, and she drops your lowest test score, so that's nice. Just be proactive, and you'll do perfectly!
I had no interest in taking another Art History, but I heard great things about Prof. Neal so I decided to take her class. If you don't like Art history, her class is the one to take. She is very helpful to make sure you don't fall behind in class. Just ask her. Still kinda of boring, so just sit in the front of the class, and you'll be fine.
Such a great teacher! You definitely have to be proactive and keep up on your reading, but she goes over everything in class, and is really helpful. She is also one of the nicest people and really cares about her students. Plus, she drop your lowest test score . . . WIN! If you're not a slacker, definitely sign up for Neal! You learn so much!
She's a really straight forward teacher. Gives you the instructions, tells you how here test are, and what will be on it. Though, she will not help you at all unless you ask. She is very nice though. You have to study though, and in her American Art class, there is a ton on info you have to memorize. Textbook is useful for this class.
She isn't the absolute best teacher, but I have a lot of respect for her. She loves Art History, and expresses that to her students. She can go on for days about each piece of work. Although, you HAVE to read the text (which is fine for most people), and you HAVE to study for the tests. The tests are handwritten notes about an image on the screen
She is not a great teacher at all. I was mislead by these great reviews. Theres no passion in her lectures, she uses narrative recorded lectures. She gives you a list of what will be on the test, and its less than 1/2 of what she said would be. She has "Unknowns" in her tests which she does not go over in class but counts points off if you miss em'
Dr. Neal has an incredible way of creating interest in Art History, I didn't think it was possible for me. I highly reccomment her.
She is not easy! Trust me. I was mislead by these false comments. I had to study so hard because of her class. You know there is no time during schooling at scad.
I am in an 8 am, and not only have I fallen asleep multiple times, but when I am awake, I wish I was asleep. Art history isn't easy and her class is impossible. It is all memorization and tests. She expects too much and gives too little. My advice- stay away...
I had Dr. Neal for 4 out of 5 ARTH classes, tests are tough, you HAVE to read & listen to her lectures if it's an on-campus class. She is incredibly helpful & understanding if you ask her for help. I despised Art History until I took her class. Women in Art was by far my favorite, the hardest part for me was to stop researching & start writing.
Neal is one of the best professors I've had at SCAD. I walked into the class with little to no interest in Art History, but Neal changed that. She was clearly passionate about the history. As long as you read about the works she tells you are on the test, you'll be fine. You learn a lot and she's always very clear with what she wants.
I learned to love Art History because of her. She is a very good teacher and knows what she is teaching. I would definitely take her again. She is inspiring and helps whenever you need it. She worried about her students but hates if you fall asleep in her class. Her exams are mostly memory but are very easy. TAKE HER!
Mostly all the papers you write end up just combining to become your final which makes it so easy. She tells you what to fix and basically helps you get an "A" on the final paper. The midterm and final are depend on your notes, TAKE NOTES! She will give you the questions, you take it home, write your answers and study that. Love this teacher!
This class is by no means easy, but if you show up to arth expecting it to be anything other than tests and reading then youve got bigger problems. Neal knows her stuff & I respect her for that, but her tests are CRAZY. Sure you have "no homework" but if you dont read & dont start studying for the test at least a week in advance you wont pass.
Dr. Neal is a very kind and understanding professor, yes her test are hard but they aren't impossible if you study. If you're bad at memorization I wouldn't recommend to take her but I enjoyed her class and looked forward to it every day. Very smart and engaging and understands outside circumstances having an effect on your grades.
LOVED this class and Dr. Neal is great. Very clear about what she wants you to get from the class and how to get an A. Prepare for two HUGE group projects in this curation/collection management class - they can make or break your entire grade. You could skip a couple days and still pass, also you could probably get by without the book.
This teacher is possibly one of my favorite History teachers I have ever had! Her passion for the subject gets you enthused as well. You must study in this class to pass for the only grades are the 3 tests, a short essay, and maybe a pop quiz. She is understanding and cares about the success of the student.
Took her American Art History class and it was pretty good! She is easy to get a hold of outside of class and is willing to help you if needed. She has one big paper due at the end of the quarter that's done in pieces throughout and two tests. Show up to class and you'll do fine.
I took Dr. Neal for a class on censorship and it was SO interesting. There was a lot of amazing class discussion made that was pertinent to current events which was really enlightening. She had mentioned that if she noticed people weren't reading that she would give us a pop quiz but it never happened ! (so just read lol)
Wonderful professor! easy to talk to and caring! As long as you put the work in and engage you learn a lot of some great topics on history! Be on the lookout for pop quizzes! i joked that she was kidding about those and i ate those words!! lol
read the book. take good notes.
Dr. Neal is an angel! her quizzes are generous & she tells you what to study for in advance, without overloading. I wish I could have taken all of my art history classes with her!
Dr. Neal is very passionate about what she teaches. Her tests are easy if you pay attention in class and do a bit of outside studying. The mindtap exercises were tedious, but they help. I would 100% recommend her to everyone who has to take art history.
Dr. Neal is the best professor I have ever had. She is so kind to all of her students and cares a lot about the success of her students. She wants students to learn, not to memorize minute details that they'll inevitably forget anyway. I took her for Western art I and II and I hope to take one of her classes again in the future!
Prof. Neal was the best Art History teacher ! I've heard horrors of other teachers, but she is wonderful. She gets straight to the point. Take notes, pay attention in class and study for the tests. I got a 60 on 1/3 tests and still got an A. She is really helpful, ask questions if you don't understand. Very knowledgable and informative.
TAKE HER FOR ART HISTORY. Funny and brilliant, made art history one of my favorite classes, AND I ACTUALLY LEARNED STUFF. Class is all lectures so be sure to take a lot of notes. Her tests are basically all multiple choice too. As are very possible
Professor Neal is an amazing professor. She really cares about her students and is extremely knowledgable about Art History. Interesting class discussions and lots of movies. Props to her for dealing with some freshmen who didn't show any respect for the class. This is not a hard class- of course you have to study, but just take notes every class!
Dr. Neal is such a great professor! She makes her lectures interesting and funny at times. She is so clear about what you need to know for the tests. I mean she actually goes over the format for the tests on the first day of class and also posts lists online regarding what works, names, and dates we need to know for the test & only one, 2 pg paper
Professor Neal is one of the sweetest people I've ever met, and is deeply passionate about art history. She's so passionate about it that it's contagious, making you just as excited about whatever she's talking about as she is. Her class is pretty easy, with three tests, one paper, reading, and some in-class activities. Take her!!
Be prepared to write for the elearning course, wish I would have had her in person. Make sure you have a manual if you don't know Chicago citations. Very tough grader when it comes to discussions and essays, also rather inconsistent. Would turn in an okay essay and receive an A, but a good essay would receive a C
Dr. Neal is one of the nicest teachers I've met. She shows my class these clips documentaries that keep me super engaged as a visual learner. You have a quiz almost every week and at least three investigations per quarter, but they help retain the information you learn. Make sure to read your materials! You won't pass otherwise.
Dr. Neal was super nice and her lectures were very thorough and informative. The class itself was super easy. Most of the grades came from online quizzes, notes on documentaries, and two very subjective papers. Definitely take her class, you will learn about art history, but you won't be bombarded with work. (But I didn't like the group activities)
Dr. Neal is an amazing professor. She is funny and brings her passion for art history into every lecture. 75% of your grade is your midterm, final, and an essay, but shes great about a lot of other grades and fixing your essay. She'll tell you what to study for, and go out of her way to make sure you succeed.
I absolutely loved Dr. Neal's class. Art History is super boring but she did her best to make lectures funny. It's a super lecture heavy class, so chances are if you miss a day you're going to miss information that you'll need for the tests, but she does her best to prepare you for the tests and there's not really any homework.
Dr. Neal is one of my favorite professors! She is enthusiastic about her lectures and understands that we all have busy schedules. She will work with you if you need help and will clarify any questions you have. Her grading is very clear and assignments aren't hard at all. Definitely make flashcards for your tests, they helped me get As both times!
Prof Neal is a good professor, tries to incorporate humor into the lectures, and makes the class very easy to pass. As long as you pay attention, take notes, and study, the midterm and final exams were easy A's. Lots of memorization helps. The analysis paper was simple as well, definitely use the Writers Studio for it.
Shes really caring and understanding, gives interesting and easy-to-understand lectures. We had to buy an online textbook, to be honest reading isnt necessary, although the weekly quizzes that it comes with are painless grading opportunities. Her lectures covers everything thatd appear on tests; just use the textbook if you miss a class.
I loved her but never miss class, I missed an in-class assignment bc I had the flu and she said it would be unfair to my classmates for me to make up the assignment, which makes no sense. Other than that I loved the way she teaches and how she formats the finals, easy to study for. I hope to take her again for my next art history class.
Prof. Neal is a nice lady and if you need help, just ask her questions. I took this virtually because of COVID on zoom and it was good because she tried to engage us with breakout rooms. There are a couple of quizzes that were open notes and an analysis essay. Her lectures pretty much cover everything, make sure you take notes on art she mentions.
Neal is a great choice for CTXT; she's well-respected and very knowledgeable. Her lectures are full of info but you must attend class, especially online. Being in class gains you an attendance; she doesn't offer anything extra outside of class. Be prepared to type a response in the chat or go to a breakout room for credit. Only one paper. Easy A.
Prof Neal is so sweet and clearly very passionate about Art History. She had a very consist class and homework schedule. The class lectures can get a little boring but she explains things very well and work outside of class is not difficult at all. I definitely recommend!
I took Professor Neal's class for CTXT121 and it was very easy. You do not even need to show up on Zoom to receive attendance, so long as you submit notes and a quiz every week. Other than maybe two more grading opportunities, that was it. A breeze!
This prof is amazing. The work load is very manageable. Your grade is a combination of open book quizzes and notes. They are so sweet and funny. You don't have to write any papers or take an exam. I learned a lot!!!!
Professor Neal is very sweet and is passionate about her class. She tries to make jokes and show funny videos to keep the classes entertaining. She has to cover a lot of material so get ready for a lecture each class. There are open note/ Google quizzes each week that are easy As. Not a lot of work at all. Make sure to take notes!
Professor Neal is very kind and passionate about art history. The only reason I rated her "good" is that I felt like the class was boring and repetitive, but it is art history after all. We watched a lot of documentaries and the quizzes were open note, so if you want an easy A, definitely take this class, although I wanted something more engaging.
There isn't a lot of work but the grading criteria isn't clear at all. You can give her exactly what she asked for and get a low grade and her office hours are at such bad times there is almost no way to reconcile the grade, it's ridiculous considering this course is a definite letdown compared to other art history classes, would not recommend.
I like her lectures and she seems very passionate about the topics which helps a lot. I do think it is a very rigorous class, as we have to take 20 question before EVERY class. Also her tests are kind of difficult, but manageable. Good professor if you are very interested in Art History, other wise it'll be tedious.
She is one of the least prepared and incompetent professors at scad. During this quarter alone she has over and over again lost slides and messed up chapter lists that you are meant to format your notes after for grades, it is so frustrating to have to do so much out of class work fixing my notes from class because of her mistakes.
Very easygoing, doesn't ask much of you. You submit reading notes for each textbook chapter (and she gives you guides for them) and take 1 open note 10 question multiple choice quiz a week, and that's it for grades. Besides that it's just her lectures, which are tolerable. She's kind and almost grandmotherly.
Professor Neal was a great teacher! Her love for Art History makes her classes entertaining and she cares deeply for her students. If you're taking a class with her be ready to read and submit thorough notes every week, but overall her classes were easy going. Won't tolerate late homework but will give you more than enough time to complete them.
Professor Neal was a great professor. She understands that art history isn't everyone's favorite subject and makes lectures interesting. Grading opportunities are very easy.
Easy A. Barely any work besides submitting notes, 10 question quizzes once a week, and in-class "investigations." Do not miss her class, because the in-class work cannot be made up, although she drops the lowest grade for both quizzes and investigations. Super chill environment and interesting material, though there is a lot of it to cover.
Barely responds to emails despite asking you to email her, my case was she marked me absent and claiming I was "asleep." She also is very passive-aggressive for many of her emails and messages too whenever you try to confront her. Grading is confusing too, one assignment was for originality and I was marked low for some reason.
Professor Neal is a very kind individual, but you NEED to show up for class. She grades on weekly quizzes and homework assignments that are fairly easy as long as you listen to the lecture.
Easily understood material, she did not overwork us, everything was open-book.
She's easy cuz she's not good at her job. She shows no enthusiasm for what she's teaching. Multiple times each class, kids would ask simple questions she wouldn't have any answer to, often receiving an answer from another classmate, to which she'd jokingly commend the student who did her job for her in a way that minimizes her own incompetence.
class was so easy cuz she does not gaf abt her job. whole class felt like a school presentation it felt like she was only up there talking abt art history cuz someone told her to. follow the assignments and pay attention cuz if u need any help ur not gonna get it from her LMAO
We followed the textbook very closely. Very little of the class was informed by her own experience or expertise. We typically watched videos and death by PowerPoint. It should be easy to get a good grade because a majority of the assignments are 10 question quizzes on each chapter.
This is one of the best classes that I have ever taken. Professor Neal was informative and encouraged open conversation in class. I wish i could go back in time and take it again. If you need an art history class take this class with her!!!
I enjoy the subject of the class and the prof as a person, but every class is mandatory. You get the lowest quiz, notes, and investigation dropped, but if you are sick more than once you're kind of screwed. Investigations are not on the syllabus and appear randomly as attendance grade markers. Death by PowerPoint. Super easy class, though!
Amazing professor! She's so sweet and understanding, and makes the lectures very interesting! You must find a way to get the textbook however as without it this class will be extremely difficult to pass if not impossible. And show up for class! Otherwise it was a breeze.
for diversity in arch history: she shouldn't be teaching an arch history course. I didn't learn anything about arch. I learned about people and their lives but architecture was never discussed using arch terms that I thought I would be learning. I think she gave the same lecture 3 times. she's nice but I wont take a class w/ her again.
Notes and quizzes are due every week. This class is exclusively slideshow lectures for the full 2.5hrs but we consistently got 20-30 minute breaks. In all honesty, it was an incredibly boring class but Dr. Neal is a sweet lady and she was very good with my accommodations. There was no midterm or final which is why I'll probably take her for 122.
Her class was very informative and lecture heavy but in an engaging way. There is one main assignment for the entire class that she describes in a lot of detail and gives plenty of time in class and out of for. Even after I was confused on a grade I got for the class she took the time to talk to me about it and help me understand.
Professor Neal is super nice and her lectures aren't much of a drag despite them taking the essentially the whole class! I found that as long as you listen to her lectures and follow the note lists on blackboard, I had little to no homework. No midterm/final exam, just keep up to date on notes and quizzes + a short formal analysis paper.
Easy A. Dr. Neal wants us to do well and not fail, so quizzes are open-note. I enjoy the videos she shows us, she is sweet and silly, but I agree she could be a little more engaging with fewer videos. There are a few small writing assignments, very simple. She doesn't take late work! Just turn things in on time and you'll get an A.
I personally HATE history but somehow found myself excited to go to this class. Professor Neal Is an AMAZING professor and everyone should take her.
Professor Neal is AMAZING!! She is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had, and you can tell she truly cares about what she teaches. We only had one real assignment all term, and it was fairly easy. While it was an easier class, I still feel like I learned so much and was excited to learn. The class is lecture-heavy, but she makes it interesting.
Professor Neal's lectures are engaging despite being slideshow-heavy. As long as you keep up with notes and quizzes, it's a manageable class. Unstuck study was a huge help for study prep.
Do NOT forget the prequarter assignment, its graded. Prof is very lecture heavy but as long as you do the notes & quizzes ur good. The only big assignment is a 2 paged paper which is nice so no midterm/final bc its 30% of grade. Attendance is lowkey mandatory, you get a participation grade so participating in class activities goes towards this
Prof Neal was okay. The notes assignments felt really long and painstaking but she does relent during midterms and finals. Make sure to read the textbook before class bc she will give one or two pop quizzes. All in all not bad for a foundations class, I just personally am not that in to art history.
Has a very western biased view in this class and does not foster an environment that welcomes other cultures. Literally only talks about European women except for very few woc as brownie points. this class disappointed me every day and i wish i took a different one smh.
