Dr. Palmier is a very easy-approach kind of professor. The best way to do well in her classes is to see her during her office hour; she likes when students ask her Q's, and she would never show any sign of impatient with students.
Professor Palmier is the BEST! She is so clear, patient, and really cares about students. Her tests are hard, but she is always willing to help anyone.
She is the best :)
She is so sweet. She loves to help and answer any of your questions. Be sure to go see her in her office hrs. She'll unknowingly tell you what to study for and what not to worry about. Be prepared to study. Her exams aren't exactly easy. But I got away with B's in both classes
Dr. Palmier is intellegent, funny, organized, kind, patient, and a truly terrific teacher. This is a hard class, but she always made it clear what we needed to know and gave us suggestions as to how to learn it best. This is a hard class, but we had all of the information we needed in order to do a good job. She is always happy to help.
Sweetest teacher I've had so far, it made studying biochem a lot easier....

Kind of boring, and you gotta feel sorry for her. She looks lonely. Actually she is lonely. She has her work and her cats.
Dr Palmier is a cool teacher.
A++++++++++ She is great!
Sweet, helpful lady. Try to get her as a lab professor, b/c she is the coordinator. Only complaint is that she is SO quiet that the air-conditioning seems deafening at times.
she's like a little mouse. very timid looking. enthusiastic about bio. exams are not bad as long as you go over the materials.
most of the material is within her lecture notes which you download from beachboard. however, she's very quiet, so plan to sit near the front if you plan on actually listening to her lectures. very encouraging and helpful to her students
she is pretty easy going but....BORING!
Christine is the best molec cell teacher, she knows her s**t. This class was not as easy as I thought it would be. You need to study and ask questions. However, she is always there to help. Participation is a plus too, she can't fail someone if they are putting out the effort...
she is very helpful and really fast with e-mail communication. you can ask her for any clarification & she will answer you within minutes. 1/2 of the students drop b/c they underestimate the class. To get an A, review her notes, know her notes & focus questions, ask questions! don't be intimiated, she is very nice. Do not look at past exams.
she doesn't use the textbook and goes off the walls with her notes. she will mutter weird stuff under her breath about her cats. she imagines a lot of students doing inappropriate things and will call you out on it, even if you were wrongly accused! she's nice but a strange lady.
What a sweet lady. Had our 3 page papers returned to us in 24 hours. Really cares about her students and how well they do in the class. Notes are posted on BeachBoard, and test material is generally straight off of these notes and the focus questions (also presented online). Take her, but don't underestimate the difficulty of the material.
Dr. Palmier talks REALLY fast -- best to record her lectures and listen to them when studying. She's very helpful and does a lot to make sure her students pass the class. The material isn't exactly easy, so the class does require a lot of work.
Dr. Palmier is a terrific teacher. Granted her the class isn't easy, but she is very good with giving detailed explaination. If you can, see her during her office. She's very helpful and approachable. I wish more teachers were like her. There's a quiz almost every week, but also can be a big grade booster. Record her lecture. Highly recommend her.
Her lecture notes, are easier to understand than the textbook. Also we lecture can seem a bit dry, and boring. Definately score high on the quiz, they are ALOT easier than the exam. Trust me you'll need all the points when you are all 'til 3am trying to memorize the Amino acids' structure and how much ATP is generated by Glycolysis.
For me, she is very funny and nice. But, the class itself is not very hard. If you know the techniques and the material, you will do very well. There are two exams and a final. Eight out of ten quizzes are counted-two are online. There is also one review paper from a journal article. I recommend to record her lectures and visit her often. Overall A
Ms. Palmier is a great teacher! She is very sweet and nice. Her quizes are easy but you will need to study for the exams. But they are not that hard either. Very friendly and approachable. Highly recommend.
She is a great teacher, I love how she conducts class at the student's rate. She was really able to explain in a way that I can understand
Try to score high on the first few tests cuz final is exempt if you have >97% going into final. Quizzes are easy, majority from her notes only. I didn't use text all that much. Class could be dry but that is b/c she goes at a slow speed so everyone will understand. Very quick in getting scores back to us. Take her if you can.
Her notes suck...they are not easy to understand unless you have an explaination to go with them...she talks fast, but she does know her stuff, but it doesnt matter...helpful or not, its still not an easy A at all
She is really good. Her grading is fair too. Her notes may seem confusing sometime but if you come to class she makes them really clear. The good thing is that she always informs us of every detail concerning the class through email. Her exams and quizzes are 99.99% from her notes and no need for the textbook except for the figures. She is the best
She is a good professor. Her grading is fair too. Her notes may seem confusing sometime but if you come to class she makes them really clear. The good thing is that she always informs us of every detail concerning the class through email. Her exams and quizzes are 99.99% from her notes and no need for the textbook except for the figures
Hard class. Her test can be difficult to figure out. Sometimes it is hard to understand what she is asking. You put a good answer and then you may get marked off for not putting the "correct answer" that she wanted. This can be very frustrating when every point counts and there is little extra credit. Notes thorough tests vague and hard.
her lectures are long and pointless because you can read it your self. she tries to make her lecture sound more interesting with her stupid jokes. shes laugh at her own jokes so obviously its not funny. you cant be too specific or too vague or she'll mark you off points on quiz and exam. im not going to lie she knows her stuff but she is very borin
She's unfair and biased. She'll deduct points off of your grade just because she feels like it. It's unnecessary for her to elongate her lectures, no one can stand listening to monotony for so long. It's amazing lame she is. She'll bore you right out of your skull. Take my word and pick someone else to be your lab instructor. You'll be better off.
Can't blame her for loving to lecture because she is lonely. Only got her cats and work, so she takes advantage of her talking in front of people. She is a total snooze. I agree with the person many comments before, she imagines people misbehaving and calls you out for no reason. Hey the classroom is the only place she feels in control.
For those who think that she's the worst teacher... please learn studying skills or consider switching majors. She's not even as bad as people say she is. If you attend class and take notes you should do fine. It's a 300 level class, you can't expect it to be a breeze. She's really fair on grading.
Took her Bio340 class in the summer. Was not hard. Record her lectures. It makes her class 100x earlier. She explains it all. She is straight forward no tricks no nothing. Book is useless. For all you 111 people, QQ more noobs and do a barrel roll you might need to switch majors. She is boring, but it is general bio, what more can you ask for?
Dr.Palmier is a very nice lady. However, her teaching doesn't help make any sense of the already hard material. I passed the class, but i honestly didn't learn anything. She grades extremely well and fast. Don't take her if you need to actually learn, remember and apply the materials and concepts.
She is really and helpful lab instructor, tells you exactly what is expected on the exams. She talks a lot and rants on and on about random things that pops into her head. Its sorta funny. She grades pretty easy too.
Wonderful human being. Really cares about her students, always giving hints on what to study and what not. For some reason found the class really easy(got an A). She makes a tremendous job at explaining stuff from the book really easy. No need to buy the book, only for reference (only used it once). It was a real pleasure taking her. Funny jokes.=]
Very good teacher. She is really nice. Wants everyone to get a good grade. Explains things very well. Easy to ask questions. I loved her!
She's a very nice professor. Attending the lecture helps because she goes over the important points and explains things very clearly. Quizzes and homework are pretty much free points if you pay attention. Midterms are based on the things she says they will be, but know the concepts in detail and how to apply them.
ok, I had to write something. For all the haters, I don't know what they are talking about. Dr. Palmier is the easiest teacher you can take for biochem. She teaches biochemistry and molecular cell. These are NOT easy classes. She makes it as easy as she can by telling us exactly what to expect on the exams. Very clear and no surprises. Take her!!
I sooooo love Dr. Palmier!! She is extremely intelligent and has a great way of explaining this hard material to the students! She is quirky and has a bit of a sense of humor.. Sit in the front of class! For you people that complain.. get over it.. it's an upper level biochem class!
the most instructionally clear biology professor at CSULB. reference the book only to what she mentions in class. quirky and honestly cares about students. i wish she taught more classes. weekly quizzes (which aren't bad) and 3 exams. know your techniques and how to apply them! those can get ya
Dr. Palmier is an awesome teacher. Her exams are reasonable and very straight forward. Definitely recommend her, she makes biochemistry easy.
I wish Dr. Palmier would teach all of my science classes! she's a very fair grader, her powerpoints are straight forward and the tests are reasonably challenging. I'm not great at chemistry, but I truly learned biochem this semester and enjoyed it
BEST professor at csulb. So sweet, funny, and nice! weekly quizzes that aren't too bad if you studied, 2 midterm, and one final. Gives you hints on what is going to be on the exam! Exams are a bit wordy though, but once you've read it a couple of times, it'll be a breeze from there. WOULD RECOMMEND TO A FRIEND!!!
I would recommend her! She's very clear on what she wants, always available to talk too in her office. She's so sweet and I truly enjoyed having her as a professor for biochemistry.
Wonderful professor. Very clear. She tells you what to study for. The textbook is not needed, but you should record her lectures bc she does speaks really fast. Everything on the tests are based on what she said in class. She is one of the best!
Best bio prof. ever! Don't bother buying the book since everything is based on her lectures, so recording her lectures is recommended, and trust me, that's really all you need to do well in this class. She's very clear on what she expects from you and also what's going to be on the exam.
Dr. Palmier is one of the best professors I've ever had.
I don't know what happened between the time everyone else rated this professor and this semester, but she was just straight-up horrible. she has a monotonous voice which helps you fall asleep and she talks about certain cell cycles that are only one 2-point problem on the exam so it's horrible. there's one thing i've learned.. SHE LOVES HER CATS
Not easy material to learn, you might have to teach yourself. She's very hard to listen to during lecture because she sometimes goes on a tangent with random examples & her voice trails off. MEMORIZE & learn everything from the powerpoints & quizzes & you should be able to pass.
Class is pretty hard. She's not the best teacher. She goes too fast, and her voice is very dull so recording her lectures is your best option. Book isn't necessary because she assigns questions irrelevant to what would be on an exam. Too bad she's the only teacher teaching CHEM 448 and 449.
Took this class over summer and had a great experience. Dr. Palmier gets to the point, and helps you understand and connect course content w/ techniques (which she loves). She's fair and is ALWAYs available for questions. Really cares about helping everyone do well. Record her! The book is really wordy, don't get lost in it focus on what she says!
I took this class during the summer, it wasn't bad at all. I never really used the textbook, I just took notes during class and studied them. She also gives out study guides. There were a few extra credit points, and some quizzes to help boost your grade. It wasn't hard to get an A. Dr. Palmier was nice and helpful. I would recommend her.
Why are people saying she's helpful or that she tells you what will be on the test? She's NOT helpful AND get this, she will say X and Y will be on the test and it won't be. She's monotone and she mumbles all the time! The practice questions from the book are totally irrelevant! I passed with a B but no thanks to her. I owe my grade to Youtube
Her lectures are dull and she goes on tangents. Her quizzes and notes are irrelevant to the exams. The book is more helpful than she is. I felt like the material was not difficult, but she wasn't very good at explaining it, or explaining what topics to focus on.
tries to crack jokes just laugh along she's a very sweet person. easy to pass. always sends out study guides for all quizzes. didn't cancel one class. give small amount of extra credit. no homework . friendly environment. definitely recommend her if you need a lot of help with quizzes and exams shes very thorough.
You can pass her class as long as- youdon't get late to class & study, study, study. Easy A if you study her ppt notes and your lab manuel! That is all I studied and I passed with a high A. I did refer to outside sources for add' help on 2 topics only- not because she's a bad teacher but because I always struggle with those topics. Recommend!!
Best professor at csulb. Amazing lectures and funny. Easiet A you'll ever get, although I got a B. Would retake this class if I could.
Takes too much time to explain the labs. She really cares about her students. Very nice and easy grader! Her lab exams & quizzes are harder than the other instructors though. The essay portion is easy, but the multiple choice is tricky!
Kind of unsure why her ratings are so high but if you are taking her for 340 she just puts up random slides and then rambles about the technique or what is happening in the diagram which made it really hard for me to learn anything at all. She knows her techniques but she rambles so you have to record lectures and listen for the important info.
Hard but I got a B. Very sweet lady. Try and get to know her and get on her good side. She was really nice and there were times where I didn't turn in my lab homework or something came up and she accommodated for me. Online quizzes every Wednesday, tests are hard, and lectures can be hard to pay attention in. Overall, I still liked her class.
She was horrible at teaching 340 because it was all pictures on slides and she just went on tangents. I took her for 448 and she's much better at teaching this subject than 340. 448 was pretty easy for me, she exempts you from final if you get 97% or above at the end of the class. Did not use book for both these classes
I took her for 212L as well and she is a great lecturer. She does go off on tangents and can sometimes be a fast talker but over all her lectures are easy to follow. True, her powerpoints are just pictures but she does a good job of explaining what is going on. Record her lectures, its a real help. She gives focus questions, big clue for exams.
Class taken over the summer. Palmier is really helpful during her office hours for any questions/clarifications. RECORD HER LECTURES. She goes very fast and you can miss something important and also record lectures because her powerpoints are all pictures. Class takes time and effort but an A is doable, tests are not trick; very straight forward.
All her lecture slides are figures from the book, so if you miss class, you won't really understand what went on. All her online quizzes and test questions come from her lectures. Make sure to record all her lectures and re-listen to them if she talks too fast in class. She goes off on a lot of tangents but hang in there!
She won't answer your questions. If you have a question about your exam or if she incorrectly graded it, you have to write on a piece of paper (post it) and explain what your question is or what is incorrect on your exam. She won't talk to you about it in class at all. She is highly emotional and extremely unprofessional.
You have to have an excellent grasp of the material. She speeds through PowerPoints as if we already went over it and we're just reviewing. Quizzes are easy & online. Homework was online but it was very difficult to get those 5 full pts. Tests are difficult and the final was out of this world. Whole class complained when walking out. Toughest class
I loved her class! Go to lecture and record! Its extremely doable! She is a very passionate professor, and always willing to help!
She breezes through lecture powerpoints as if we already know the material. Online quizzes are easy As. Online take home assignment allows unlimited tries for full credit. Exams are difficult & we don't have enough practice/preparation for them. Lots of memorization. Final was beyond difficult.
Prof. Palmier is a sweet lady in office hours. I really recommend you go talk to her during office hours to get to know her styles. She talks very fast during lecture so make sure to record and listen again. She gives you weekly quiz (easy), some small projects, 3 midterms and non-cumulative final. Overall I would take her again for Biochemistry.
Think she feels she is good at this. She knows biochem but not how to present. Uses ppt but is inept at it so slides are in edit mode with the boxes and such. On whiteboard, uses dry marker in half-lit, large lec hall so only she can see it. That's a good descriptor for her: a dry marker. Attend class. Study early and often. Doable class Good luck!
I had her for bio chem and upper div. cell and molec. I did well in biochem, but struggled a bit in cell and molec. She's very clear on what she expects and will emphasize what will be on the test. Can be rude at times and is easy to irritate.
biochem itself is not easy and dr palmier really focuses on what important to prepare us for the next level. come to class, pay attention to her lectures, she gives you hint what be on the tests. study off her notes (understading not just memorizing) and everything she writes on the board, for sure you will pass at least with a B
Palmier is rude when you ask her questions and gets irritated easily. But she is very clear about the assignments and her expectations. So as long as you complete all your work and on time, you'll do just fine.
I've had her as a bio lab ta 2 semesters in a row and I hope to get her again in the future. She's so sweet and is a super easy grader. I turned in my lab right when it was due and 5 minutes later she gave me 100%. Just make sure to finish your assignments and quizzes on time and you'll do okay!
She's alright. Her lectures just have SO MUCH info since it's two semesters of biochem condensed into one. I think it was pretty easy the first half since it was review of older classes but the later half is a lotta cycles so memorization is a must. I don't memorize well so it was super hard and I barely got an A but yeah if you need good memory
Professor Palmier is one of the greatest mentors I have ever had. She is extremely genuine, caring, and understanding. She loves her students. She is very good at explaining difficult topics, and she loves what she teaches which is nice to see. Her excitement for biology is refreshing and helps keeps students engaged. 10/10 would take again!!
Professor Palmier has given me hope in the biology department here at CSULB. She is well spoken and you can tell that she cares about her students' abilities in understanding the content she is teaching. And you can tell that she is extremely passionate for the content she is teaching which makes her class that much more enjoyable and interactive.
Pleasant person, but boring lectures. Attendance is essential to do well, she will tell you how to prepare for exams. Offers online resources but you MUST STUDY in order to do well on her exams. She is laid back but her exams will test your application and knowledge, not just brute memorization of her lectures. Tough class, be prepared.
Professor Palmier is amazing! She is incredibly kind, cares about the wellbeing of her students above their grade. As long as you attend lecture and take notes you'll pass. She also records all her lectures, which is basically the only reason I passed the class. She assigns only a few assignments, and her tests are usually repeated quiz questions.
Might be the worst professor I've ever had. She rushes thru lecture slides while rarely stopping to explain anything. Her exams are full of typos and grammar errors, which can be pretty bad on 50Q exams with 90sec/question! Plus they are worth 70% of our grade Also, she wanted us to buy a $100 online software for hw that's worth 3% of our grade
Amazing prof! Bit sassy sometimes but she was willing to help. Lecs r informative & quick, doesn't spend too much time on unnecessary details. Has easy Smartwork HW, postlecture quizzes, in-class assignments, 3 exams + 1 final (online), & 1 Jmol protein project. Offers LOTS of EC. Work hard on the quizzes & exams, she';; curve!
Professor Palmier uses 70+ slides (many are just pictures) power points that she rambles through. She hardly writes on the board, just loosly points at things. She's also very sassy and doesn't hide her dislike of certain students. Get ready to read if you want to be successful, I did a lot of self teaching in this course.
Her slides are not great, they are pretty much images with barely any text. She said we did not need the book, with her slides was enough... I am glad I got the book, I would not have survived. Her lectures were boring, and honestly, a waste of time. Without any text in her slides, I had to review everything again. Not bad but needs improvement
very kind and adorable prof, her exams are more on the easier side, attendance is mandatory but you can pass without paying attention to the lectures and by just reading the textbook. final was online and theres a quiz every so often with mult attempts. homework is mastering bio but answers can be found on quizlet. easy A class, def take!
had her for 441A n a lab. She didn't prepare reagents for us to use prior to class, we had to look for them in storage. Waste of time. Doesnt tell us what she wants on lab reports but takes off points. I sensed alot of bias from her, graded students she likes easier n harsh on others. In lab she didn't know the procedures n just sat on her phone.
While the lectures are mandatory she does read off the slides with a little bit of extra explanation or anecdote which can get boring sometimes. Often gets ahead of her slides and then doubles back and ends up repeating. Class overall was fairly easy, weekly Pearson assigns, quizzes with multiple attempts, weekly class assign, and the exams.
I have no idea how she is rated so high, literally the worst professor I have ever had. If you're going to get paid to teach, I expect to learn not be an audience to ramblings and incoherent comments. She needs to stop using other's slides and make her own instead of telling students "you don't need to know this". Just tell me what I need to know!!
Study guides are nothing like the test, I don't even know what material I'm supposed to focus on for studying. Says not to use the textbook (which is extremely dense and long), but it needed for how lackluster her lectures are.
This professor has claimed that assignments such as homework and quizzes will help grades yet exams are worth much more. Exams are very detail-specific yet study guides are very general and do not allude to what the exam questions may look like. Tough graders, exam averages being an F yet not curving the exam and having 1 extra credit assignment.
Homework was easy to do, and quizzes allowed three attempts. The tests are very lecture-heavy, but she does release study guides that are very helpful. Lecture can be very long and tedious, but she explains the concepts well and the material is pretty organized. Overall very nice professor.
She was great for 212, but 340 was a struggle. Her slides are very text-heavy, and some slides don't have any text at all. Tests are extremely lecture heavy so either record the lectures or be prepared to a lot of self-teaching. She offers a lot of extra credit opportunities to cushion your grade. Take her for a different class, but not 340.
Okay so she basically reads off the slides, makes you study for the wrong things and made the whole class think attendance was part of our grade and dropped everyone ~10% 4 weeks before school ended. Overall had an awful experience with her teaching and with her class in general. I wouldn't recommend her.
She does not provide adequate study materials (voice-to-text study guides because she says she was unwilling to make a real one) and tells you not to read the textbook but you kinda have to. She reads of the slides which regularly have issues/errors. I hear she is better in biostats but I have no way of knowing. She is quite understanding, though.
Dr.Palmier is a super nice and caring professor. This being said, she is very boring. I think I may have had the ability to pay attention once throughout the semester, so be ready to do some legwork on your own and try to pay attention because her slides are not helpful after the fact, mostly pictures and her talking. If you try, you can succeed.
She's a very sweet lady and tries to make the class laugh, her lectures drag a bit tho. her class is structured to provide many opportunities for points which can cushion your grade from exams. 2 exams 1 final (online) 1 group project. she also gives a lot of EC and grades very easy, full points almost all the time. study a bit for the first 2exams
BIOL 340 with Dr. Palmier wasn't as bad as I was told it was going to be. I'm very grateful to have had her for this class. It is very heavily influenced by biochemistry, which I enjoyed! Also very funny. She presents material with a lot of metaphors that actually make sense. But record her lectures. We got lucky cuz she recorded this sem.
Her class a bit boring but she trying to make fun jokes throughout the lectures for us to easier to focus, give some extra credits, easy grader with great feed back, only 2 exams in person and 1 online final, 1 group project, quizzes are also online and other assignments, sometime she take attendance so I recommended to go to her class.
Dr. Palmier's class was very information-heavy so study a lot for this class. She recorded lectures for us, and I recommend paying attention to her lectures rather than read off the textbook. There is random attendance. Her lectures are pretty good, and she has a particular type of humor that keeps them interesting as well! Overall, great professor
She's a very sweet lady! Overall she was a good TA. She made labs easy! :)
