She's so insane, it's hilarious
One of the best classes ever. She's a fantastic, insane, funny professor.

Welcome to Prof Rossell's midlife crisis! Everyone's invited!
She's great! Funny and full of herself!
Class was worth it just for her stories
One of the best.
Loved the stories. Even when they were repeated. She's easy to understand too.
The best professor that I have ever had! Literally.
One of the best prof's I've ever had, and for a woman her age - nice!
Rossel is a great professor, who is very knowledgable in her field. Her stories are entertaining and usually helpful. But definatly a hot teacher-Take Her Class!
one of my favorite classes ever!
if you wanna do well, just memorize the notes(theres a lot of them). very smart, but somewhat crazy.
transcribing what she puts on an overhead for an hour and twenty minutes every period gets a little tiresome.
Most exciting classes were the ones she brought her dog to. Somewhat boring lecturer. Told irrelevant stories. Coursework and readings boring.
thinks she is god's gift to desegregation - don't expect her to stop talking about it. do not be surprised if she tests on minutia. not available - she lives by her computer, and if you e-mail her make sure you respond quickly
She'll work you, but you will learn!
She is the best professor I've had at BU. If you have any questions, just go ask. Her intelligence may be intimidating but she's a great person and she knows her stuff. Very fair grader and very fair TFs.

I find her to be very nice, and if you actually MEET with the woman 1 on 1 you will realize the same thing. Pub. Policy isn't the most interesting subject but she does her best.
mixed bag. she's smart, but kind of pompous about her opinion. the tests seem ok but they are detailed. she seems nice, but if you ask ANY question she treats you kind of 'less-than'
Rossell is my dawg. Exams all cover the same amount of material and are weighted- best grade is 35%, second best 30%, worst grade 25%. Knows her stuff and does seem kind of pompous but she wants everyone to learn a lot and do well.
She is a great professor. People LEARN in her class and she seems to really care. She responds to email promptly and is a very cool person. Definately worth taking her class.
she just reads from her slides, but that's ok. pretty interesting stuff, all the basics, esp for a non-polisci major. she's pretty arrogant about her own work and personal political views, but which teacher isn't?
She knows her stuff. Her opinions drive the course...that can be a little annoying.
good teacher
She knows her stuff and her tests are pretty easy; however, shes very arrogent. its pretty much an opinion driven class, with hers as the only option.
this class was very straightforward and clear. the exams were easy as long as you paid attention in lecture or were willing to teach yourself the stuff as i did and skip lecture. prof. rossell really knows her stuff.
She was a great teacher but she's like a communist hippie who doesn't trust the government and thinks she has a supreme solution to everything. Overall I liked her though and recommend her.
She'd occasionally go off on tangents, but in an interesting way. My only complaint was that there was a bit too much reading, and that really was only a source of grumbling, nothing serious. I strongly recommend her.
Rossell Rocks! She doesn't realize that her students love her so much. She is very straightforward, with a great sense of humor and teaching style. Not to mention that she has a great body for a 60 year old (<-- Wierdo!)
She is an awesome person, and a great professor. She does go off into her own little world during lectures, but they prove to be a nice break from the often-intense material.
Rossell repeats the SAME stories every single class. Blah blah blah, no one understands the American educational system except her, WE GET IT, thanks. When she tells us she's losing her mind, she isn't kidding. That said, the class is hilariously entertaining, and tests are easy.
Rossell is possibly the best Poli Sci professor at BU. She's great, her lectures are clear and appropriately paced- yes she thinks she's god's gift to the world- but thats because she is! P.S. you might not want to take this class if you are ultra-conservative.
excellent professor, she lays her biases out front. the material is taught well. exams aren't too bad if you study the assigned articles. never read the textbook, waste of time. her stories are great and a welcome break from sometimes difficult material
Great class - I learned a lot and she is pretty funny. I think I can probably write her biography now.
Rossell is a very well published and knowledgeable teacher that makes public policy interesting.
The BEST PO class I've taken at BU. Rossell is simply awesome - she is incredibly well informed, insightful, and helpful. Her anecdotes make the already interesting lecture even more so, and she seems to have interesting proposals to fix many governmental dilemmas. I most highly recommend this class
This class was always fun to look forward to. She is a bit insane, but it helps out when the material gets dry. The tests are not hard, although there is a lot of reading to do beforehand. The textbook is completely pointless (you can get the material from the free, online readings).
Let's be honest: Prof. Rossell is sort of crazy--but she also is so funny and really knows what she's talking about. Although she is a little self-righteous, she will present ideas that make you think outside of the box. She also makes an effort to learn student names and even in lecture, discussions occured often.
definitely teh most entertaining of the PO intro's. Professor Rossell is funny but she has something serious to say.
yes, she is very outspoken, and yes, some of her ideas are a bit crazy, but the lectures were interesting because of it. tests easy, but readings were a bit heavy. she answers every little question in lecture, which can become tiresome, but also helps clarify a lot.

Rossell has a few key ideas that remain present throughout each of her classes (I've taken three.) Because of this, her classes are easily understood and very clear. Your interest, however, will wane halfway through the course as she increasingly repeats her main ideas. There is a lot of reading. Skim it or leave it be. Go to class and take detailed notes. Get a friend and then compare your notes. You will get an A (I've gotten three.)
Rossell is the best polisci professor I've had at BU, BAR NONE. Class is incredibly interesting, readings are very relevant, and her policy proposals are very creative. If you think you know a lot of education, take this class. It will rock your world and turn some of your views upside down. Should be REQUIRED for SED students. Highly recommended!!
This is the best class I took in my four years at BU. The professor is funny, knowledgeable, very well organized, and she has some really creative public policy solutions. She gives a list of possible essays out ahead of time so the tests are not too hard if you do the readings and use the study guide. I highly recommend this class.

FANtastic. Made me want to transfer actually, to a school where I could double major in Policy Analysis. Who knew that my first great professor would make me want to move schools? Either way, take it.
Great class, great professor. She is a leader in her field and very funny. Take this class- Its an easy B.
OK teacher, but doesn't encourage discussion. Her way or the highway.
Rossell is awesome--smart, funny, encourages discussion, the class is incredibly interesting with both side presented on important and controversial policy issues.
Rossell is an awesome professor- she's a little crazy, but she's so learned in her field, has interesting opinions on controversial policy issues, and is very clear and helpful. Just do all of the readings and don't miss any lectures and tests won't be bad. An A is definitely possible- highly recommended class and professor!
Rossell is a great professor with an awesome sense of humor. Her lectures are fun and engaging. Grading is fair-read, go to class and you'll be fine!
The most hysterical professor I've had. She is all over the map with her views (ultraconservative on some stuff, "left of Marx" as she says on others) but she's able to make perfect sense in her arguments. She wants her students to do well and goes the extra mile to help them. VERY helpful in office hours & will probably email you back right away.
Rossell is a great, engaging lecturer. She makes public policy really interesting, fun and very clear. She is funny as hell. She remembers names in a big lecture too! I think her grading system helps out slackers a little too much though lol. Take this class
Prof. Rossell is clearly a talented lecturer. That said, the content of the class would have been enhanced with more class participation. Many of the issues covered in class are hotly debated, but we typically only read materials from one side of the debate. For example, we read only her work on bilingual ed, when the majority of scholars disagree.
Prof. Rossell is a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable and and her lectures are clear. She can go off on crazy tangents sometimes, and she goes easy on the random undeserving slacker, but in general, she holds the attention of her class and her tests are fair. I would reccomend this class if you have time for the readings, and there are many.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! rossell is absolutely brilliant and funny at the same time; i am so glad i got to take a class with her. alot of reading (textbook is not very important); public policy is alot tougher than it sounds - but her slides / lectures are very clear; totally opened my eyes to the political stances and strategies behind politicians.
I took 241 and fell in love. Well, not in love but you know what I mean... with the class and teaching. So I took another one and I'd take another one if I could. She's very chock full of quotes and never makes seemingly boring subject matter feel that way.
I took her for 241, but in this class she was a lot less focused and went on more random tangents. Totally messed up her own syllabus, did subjects out of order. Did learn a lot about bilingual education and standardized testing problems. But class can get frustrated because she is so flighty. Average grade for the class is an A-/B+
Rossell is the best professor I have had at BU. She is so smart and entertaining and knowledgeable. She thinks outside the box and tries to get her students to do this. Her lectures are organized and so is the syllabus. I have switched my concentration to public policy because of her and would continue to take her courses if there were more.
Professor Rossell is brilliant and funny. She is also very responsive to students. Answers email almost immediately and is willing to help outside of class. I just love her and recommend any class she teaches.
The class is easy, but if you want to get an A you need to do most if not all the readings (which you do the week before the midterm anyways). Too many people think too highly of Rossell; yeah, she is a little weird and she is intelligent, but her theories are pretty much standard public policy and you should have heard them already.
great teacher, material is easy, just read it...like one article a day is enough...go to class....you get an A!
Nice person. Good teacher.
I am disappointed. Way, way too much reading to process and learn. Not an easy class. Do not take it if you do not have to. Pointless.
Interesting class and Professor Rossell is amusing. Some of the lectures can be repetitive but if you go to class and do the outside reading the class is easy. The tests are extremely fair.
One of my favorite professors at BU. She can be a bit stubborn with her views, but presents the information clearly and in an interesting way. You have to do the readings (the night before the test) if you want to do well. I can't wait to take another class with her.
its really not a hard class, just do one reading a day (including the txtbook).. split them up if long.. and you will be fine. take good lecture notes. easy to do well on exams since essay questions are given to you previously. she is a great lecturer and is dedicated to her students. people who hate on her really have sticks up their asses.
Rossell is brilliant and funny. I always looked forward to class. I learned a lot. It is amazing how confused the public is about education. I would recommend this class highly, although there is a lot of reading and some of it is difficult. Rossell is very responsive to students, particularly by email.
She is funny and interesting; she tells a lot of personal stories. She lets her dog run around the classroom too. Shes a bit cooky but thats what makes her so great. She really has a passion for what she is teaching. Material can occasionally be dry but do the readings and you will do well on the tests. Cant wait to take another of her classes!
Very knowledgeable and personable.
If you want to go into a policy career, take this class. Plus, Rossell is hot. You won't fall asleep in this class.
Professor Rossell is pretty nice, loves her subject and is really knowledgable in it. However, she is sort of self-absorbed. She can't stop telling you how smart she is and that gets old.
Prof. Rossell is a wonderful teacher, very well organized, and very accessible to students. She is funny, smart, knowledgable. I can't wait to take another class from her.
This should be a required course in the School of Ed. What I learned blew my mind. Plus, Rossell is a great teacher, knowledgable and passionate about her subject with a great sense of humor--says she is viewed by some as part of the lunatic fringe. The course is not too hard, one midterm, one final, no paper. The readings are interesting.
Prof. Rossell is an awesome teacher. She's wicked funny and I actually enjoy going to class. Read the articles and you'll be fine on the tests. She gives you study guides which help a lot. Take this class. =)
Awful. Be prepared to hear about how hard her day was or that she has tenure and cannot get fired. Most narcissistic professor ever. Find someone to give you notes and never go, lectures are just copying overheads.
A very nice woman, but goes off on too many tangents. Lectures are straight off overheads. Its a shame she doesn't post them online. She assigns a lot of readings and asks pretty detailed questions on the exams, and makes it extra hard by always adding in unnecessary and vague answer choices that screw over students who know the material
Intellegent professor and she knows it. Only do the recommended readings, go to all the lectures, do what she wants on the tests. Easy B minimum. Her tangents are pretty funny but mostly irrelevant. If you have a question email her she'll answer in no time at all.
I loved the class and Professor Rossell. However, it was huge and the new classroom had a lot of problems. I think she did her best to entertain us, but we were packed in like sardines and often the microphone did not work. If you want the overheads posted, do not take this class.
This woman is amazing and the most persuasive person on the planet, I think. If you listen to her for long enough you'll start believing the sky isn't blue. She has made me seriously consider public policy as a career (I am in human phys!). Tests are easy as long as you read the REQUIRED readings and attendance is taken every class. Tf's are great.
Rossell is a really good lecturer. She's a little out there and goes on tangents. The class has a lot of reading. Some topics are more interesting than others. She's a really interesting person though and some of her stories are hilarious! Essays given on study guides before the tests, multiple choice can be tricky. Peter is a great TF!
Rossell is passionate about public policy, and incredibly opinionated. KNOW HER OPINIONS ON ISSUES. She gives you the essay topics ahead of time, and she breaks down required readings in lecture. Tells great stories, and has West Wing episodes in place of lecture if she isn't there.
The midterms are fair and not difficult, they basically wanted you to regurgitate the names of all the authors she put on the website and you get an A. She is really biased, but if you can ignore that she is funny, and a very strong lecturer. She was sending the class dozens of e-mails before the final, it began to be spam.
she answers e-mail's faster than a speeding bullet. is clear fair and well informed. a true professional. clear in class. the test outlines have 6 questions you study for 4 and write on 2 questions. there are multiple choice + essay test in one. and a separate paper. i took all of her courses. she is a fair grader. rossell rocks!
Oh Rossell. She may be slightly off her rocker but she really knows her stuff. As someone who has little interest in policy she really made the class enjoyable for me. I dont know a single person who took the class and didnt love her as a professor, even if they found the material boring.
I really enjoyed Prof Rossell's class. The exams were fair as long as you do all the reading. Rossell is a very nice woman with a sharp memory. Only thing I disliked is that she would go on long tangents, and has a "my way or the highway" attitude with regard to her policy views and you can't really argue her. Still good class though.
Prof. Rossell is brilliant and funny. I learned more in her class than any other class I had at BU. She encourages participation in lecture and even if you disagree with her, she treats you with respect. I even like her tangents because when she can't remember why she told you something, she asks the class "Why did I tell you this" and it was fu
CONTINUED... even when she asks us "Why did I tell you this?" it was fun for me to try to figure out the connection and there always was one. She is awesome.
She likes to rant and tell funny stories for most of the class, so bring something to do. Lectures are done on overhead, but easy to keep up. Attendance is mandatory in both lecture and discussion. Book is dense and boring. Tests are based mostly off lecture and (tons of) supplemental readings. Easy if you study. Peter is a pretty good TF.
I really enjoyed this class. She's a bit nutty, but she's the first one to address how nutty she is. She's hilarious and brings up random stories. Don't worry, it's okay to laugh at her inappropriate comments. She likes it. There a ton of readings, but it's not so bad. Peter is a great TF. Discussion and lecture are mandatory.
She is inarguably my favorite professor at BU. She's absolutely witty and her jokes are an easy way to remember what she's talking about during lecture. Lecture and discussion are mandatory and attendance is taken. The tests are fair but be sure to know the required reading and important percentages, time limits, and statistics. Highly recommended
Prof Rossell has very distinctive perspectives on issues, however her off-the-wall perspectives are what make her class entertaining. There can be alot of reading if you put it off to the last minute. She gives you 6 essay questions to study, 2 to choose from on the exam, and 1 to write on. Overall, lectures are good and entertaining at times
Prof. Rossell is a wonderful teacher. She gives you the facts and the logic about policy and solutions, but she is tolerant and funny. I highly recommemd this class
Oh Christine Rossell. She's opinionated, she's fierce, and she's slightly insane. Sure, you won't agree with everything she says, sure there will be times where you will widen your eyes and think, "wtf?" but you will learn quite a bit from her. Her wit and personality make learning the material a pleasurable task. By all means take her class.
Professor Rossell is a fantastic teacher. She is realy smart and really funny. She makes you look at policy issues in a whole different way. She is nice to students and makes fun of her own ideas. I would recommend any course she teaches. The exams are not too hard because she gives you the questions a week ahead of time.
One of the most intelligent professors I have met. You can't help but be sucked into her lectures which never fail to inform and entertain. Tests based on lecture. Usually never gives anything below a B, and is a fair grader.Great class to take, very much worth it, and very much possible to get an A in this class, dont be intimidated by grad level.
Prof. Rossell is fantastic. She is a very engaging speaker, so I didn't mind that lectures were mandatory. The exams were fair and based largely on lecture and the secondary readings (make sure you know the authors!). She is also very helpful outside of class. I would definitely recommend taking anything she teaches.
Professor Rossell is easily the best professor I've had so far - but she is my first Poli Sci professor at BU. She is really intelligent, very funny, and capable of keeping you interested in the most boring things. I am taking PO548 just because of her.
GREAT professor! She is entertaining and I never get bored in her lectures. Definitely take her class!
Rossell is an interesting lecturer who knows alot about her field. She is featured in some of the many articles you must read for the exams. Her method of testing is rather annoying as you must memorize author's names and quotes from their readings and you must cite them directly on the exams. Multiple choice portions are not hard.
I highly suggest taking this class with professor rossell. There is no textbook, just online articles that are very easy to read through. Lectures are really interesting and relaxed. A midterm and a final, and I don't think anyone got lower than a B on each (multiple choice and one short essay). Found this grad level easier than her 200 level.
The best thing you can do to do well in her class is DO THE READINGS - not as much from the textbook as from the articles. Lectures are fun and extremely straightforward. Know the big picture as well as small details (statistics, names of authors etc.) and you'll ace her exams.
Rossell is quirky and funny. Lectures are with hundreds of kids so you can go, sign in, and leave. DONT GET CAUGHT THOUGH. Discussion sections are mandatory. Lecture notes are unimportant for the most part. Most of the test material is from the readings which there are wayy too many of to do. Just read ALL of the short ones and skim the long ones.
I highly recommend taking as many of Rossell's courses as possible. She encourages debate, especially comments against what the writers claim, since she loves to debate. She has an adorable dog that she'll let wander around if you will allow for it. She's informative, fun, loud, and understanding. Super easy going.
This lady is insane. Dont buy the textbook. Read the required articles she posts online
Prof. Rossell is a fantastic lecturer. She's entertaining and on point, with a lot of experience behind her views. She provides a variety of readings that explore both sides of public policy arguments, and the news articles in particular are especially informative. To do well in the class: Do the readings. Write competently.
I participated in Prof. Rossell's class PO141 last year. The class was a great introduction to all aspects of public policy with a wide variety of exposure to methodology. Rossell keeps discussion entertaining and funny. Methods are well explained without going in to deep. Plan on reading a lot, but as long as you know what your read, you do well.
I participated in both PO500PO141. Prof. Rossell is awesome. She provides a very in-depth and lively overview of education policy(her specialty). She shares stories of her research and consulting in the area while hitting on the key points, and in addition to policy, you hear what it is like to consultbe an expert witness in Edu policy(very cool)
