This class is great and you actually learn something. She is excited about history, has a great personality and tells the story well. You HAVE to go to her classes, its the only way to pass the class. Buying the book isn't even necessary just listen to her and take good notes. Only 3 tests the whole semster. I enjoyed her class thoroughly.
This class was boring but she tried to make it sound exciting, but overall good teacher. You only get 3 tests the whole semester! and make sure u study the studyguide and do the online practice questions with them!
GREAT TEACHING SKILLS
If you have to take history, take her! Not only is the class a no brainer, she actually puts history into a perspective that is understood by college students. The writing assignments are a little tedious, but easy A's. I am taking her again for 1020.
a wonderful professor with a heart of gold and a body to kill! i hope everyone takes her class! she was awesome!
She isnt the worst teacher, but honestly she doesnt put effort into helping out the students. Im doing fine in the class expect and A or high B, but my fellow class mates are ranging in a C average!!!
She isn't a bad teacher, but I found her lectures very unorganized. She repeats herself and spends a lot of time saying what she is "going" to talk about, so you're never sure when to start taking notes. I'm doing very well but she says the average grade on her tests is in 70s. Never used the "big book", but need the other one for tedious essays.
History is definitely my worst subject, but this class wasn't bad at all. I found her lectures to be pretty interesting although sometimes she was a bit unorganized. She is definitely there to help you outside of class if you need it and her tests are pretty straight forward, just come to the lectures and take good notes.
This is an easy class if you take the effort. Read the articles, write the essays, take good notes(which means attending classes!) and you should get an 'A'. The majority of her tests are from lecture material, but don't forget to look over the book.
Great teacher and lecturer. Classes are not mandatory but you have no chance of passing if you don't go. What she talks about during lecture is what's on the test. I'm a bit of a history buff so the class was easy for me, but others seemed to struggle. If you just pay attention she often repeats the important stuff and you will pass though.
She's Great! Just Do The Essay And Follow The Review Sheet.
She's a wonderful teacher, lectures are a little all over the place but if you know anything about history you'll know what to take notes on. Make sure to attend class and do the essays and you'll have no problem!!!
Manly, which can be distracting at times. Lectures are extremely long. Studying for tests are is a must, as well as reading. She definitely knows her history; if you don't mind lectures you'll love her.
The class is not bad at all. take good notes and You'll be fine. the essays are easy as long as u read the articles. She's passionate about history and makes it interesting.
IF YOU ARE A GOOD WRITER THIS CLASS IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Big essays and tests. Thats all you do in the class. As long as you read the articles and write nice papers, you can get C's and D's on the scantron tests and still pass with flying colors.
This teacher was completely HORRIBLE. ALL she ever did was BLAH BLAH BLAH... talk, talk, and TALK. OMG, sooooo BORING!!!! She NEVER gave powerpoint presentations, notes, or ANYTHING. She just expects you to listen to her manly self for an hour and 15 mins. I never failed a class before until I took hers. Just HORRBILE. Would NOT recommend!!!!
SHE IS GREAT. I had a great time in that class. she teaches well. Make sure you are there mostly everyday because she does lecture on the important stuff. Essays were easy. Just a word of advice make sure you dont use to muchs "I"s in essays. you lose points for those. She made history interesting which is what every teacher should do.
Teacher is great. Just a lecture class with essays to write and some test. Word of advice what she repeats you should write. Im not great at history but had gotten perfect 5's on her essays. PLEASE TAKE HER!!!!! ESSAY A OR B.
She's an awesome history teacher - incredibly knowledgeable and thorough. She also allowed for creativity in our group projects. Definitely take her!
The most amazing teacher I have ever had. She has a really cool method of teaching and made my first semester awesome. You need to show up and there are 6 in class essays but it really is easy. Don't waste your time if history doesn't interest you. However,if you enjoy history you'll love this professor.
most amazing professor. take her if you can. classes fill quick
I LOVE THIS TEACHER. Her essays were easy. Just in case you did not read below this comment she does have 6 essays but they are easy just listen to her lecture and it is a breeze. Her lectures were not boring and she used her own method of teaching.Highly recommend because she is just that great.
Awesome teacher. very helpful when answering questions. Made class fun
listen to what she says and earn a c or b on tests and do good on all essays and you will pass great teacher she also teaches amilitary history class i reconmend taking her as a teacher!
you have to go to class everything she lectures on is going to be on the test. she is really easy to listen so just take good notes. and the in class essays arent bad. anyone who dropped this class probably didnt show up to the lectures or didnt study.
She is GREAT. She is very thorough during lectures. The class is a combo of 3 test and 6 in class essays. For the essays you have to read 3 10-15 page articles and take a page of notes on each. Then she picks article for you to write an essay on. She drops one essay. The test are 50 questions, all multiple choice. Take good notes.
Take her if you adore history. When she is asked a question she tells you to google it. Tests are hard and there is only 3. She picks your essays from aticles that are 15-20pgs and there is 3 at a time to read; she only chooses 1. You also have chapter reading. Class was too fast paced; I wanted to learn material but didn't have time to.
Made the material SO AWESOME. I have heard horror stories about her, but as long as you take good notes on the articles, and on the study guides, your grade is fine. She is absolutely hilarious and attendance is everything!
Her grading scale is horrible 25% on 6 essays and 25% for each 3 tests, you take tests on matterials that are hardly covered by her because most of the stuff she talks about is vague information.
This class is good, but you have to put the work in. It's really important you attend each class because a lot of what she says is on the test. It's true you have to write 6 essays but they are only 5% of you overall grade. She lectures are clear and planned out. She definitely know her history. Take this class
She is a nice person and all but the WHOLE class all you do is write as fast as you can! There are 6 essays that are 5% each of your total grade. No quizes and you must be in class. If I were you I would not take her. I love history but it is just soooo much info she tells you that you can not write it all down.I finally resorted to a tape recorder!
take my advice...run with your money. I was very disappointed when she required us to read 4 articles that were 10pgs within 2days to write an in class essay that only one article will be the topic. we had to type 2pages worth of notes for each article and the in class essay is suppose to be 500 words hand written in cursive.
Dr.Seiler knows her history. The 6 in class essays are 25% of your grade, but she'll drop your lowest scored one. Grades are based on attendance, midterm, essays and final. Very animated and loves lecturing on wars. Loved this class
If you take this class you must have all the time and patients in the world. You will read articles that are long and then have to write an essay on one of the 4 she makes you read. Also while reading all those articles you will have to read the textbook as well because the lectures will leave you clueless. So get on your reading
I took this class along with Calc 2, Physics, and Ethics. It's not as much work as people say. If you can't handle the workload, you don't belong in college. She is crystal clear on what she expects. I spent 3 hours max prepping for each in-class essay and about 3 hours studying for each test. Got an A. Stop whining people and do some work.
Nothing like her ratings. She jumps from topic to topic and it gets confusing. She drags out most of your classes with maps and diagrams. BORING!
Worst teacher I have ever had. If she likes you, it doesn't matter how horrible your projects are. However, if she dislikes you, you will NOT pass. She decides what history is. Figure out what she likes and do every one of your presentations on that topic.
Horrible. Who would type up notes just to use them when youve already written them? I hated the lady.
if you can't write an essay don't take this class. The easiest way to get an A is to do well on your essays, the 5 pharagraph essay gets you the best grade. Take notes, study, and practice, she gives the possible essay topics and allows you to make a page of notes for each one. She expects work, but lets face it, this is college!
I would never recommend her to anyone, nor will I be taking any classes she may teach. Absolutely does not give a flying fudge, just is looking for a paycheck. So many issues through out this class. She gives you no direction, no insight, no rhetoric. If you take her, be prepped to loose your money.
You will spend most of your time on this one class alone reading and writing. You will also have to be an excellent note taker, because everything will come mostly out of her lectures. She will not let you what you should be taking notes on either.
I took Professor Seiler for both American History 1&2. I still remember her classes and loved every minute. Yes she is stickler for attendance but it's for your own benefit. The in class essays aren't all that bad especially if you've already taken college english. Really knows history and how to teach it. Definitely take her class.
prepare for: buying multiple text books(2), biweekly to weekly essays(6), listen to lectures, will give study guides for tests(3) includes final. more studying then class work.
This is the worst professor I have ever had! She was rude when anyone tried to ask questions. I would never recommend her to ANYONE!
Worst professor I ever Had. Essay's sound easy but on the day of them she says you can not write certain things about the articles you read when in reality what your not suppose to write is the main reason for the article. Note taking is unorganized and you have a better chance of passing test by just studying the review sheets.
Unless you study real hard your not going to pass this class. Notes are unorganized, Notes for essays are a waste of paper because she tells you to read three articles and type up the notes, once you do the essay she chooses one topic so you only get credit for one article. Reviews are BS, theres alot on them but only 4 or 5 are actually on Exams.
her exams don't follow the review sheets that she gives. the 6 in class essays are not that hard. i didn't really like this class.
She goes on and on about one subject for an hour and 15 minutes that ends up not being on the test. She also gives you a review sheet- that has nothing to do with the tests. If you know history really well, go for it. If not, say hello to a not- so- wonderful grade.
Unhelpful, would not work with a student ready to put extra work forward, and did not actually have tests on the book she assigned. Tests were incomprehensible, and answers were not from the actual material. Avoid.
If you do not pay close attention in class and if your not an excellent note taker do not take this class. She lets some students retake tests while others she does not!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!
Let me just make a list. I read every chapter, took two entire note books of notes, A- on all essays because they are open note, typed min. 10 pages front and back of notes on her study guides, Put all other classes aside, took a combined total of 3 wks off of work, she rambles, ABSOLUTELY NO EXTRA CREDIT, I HAD a very high GPA... I FAILED!
AWFUL!!! Avoid this teacher!! her grading is very hard. the test do not follow the test outline! if your not a good note taker DON'T take her! she talks the WHOLE time.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! If you are in Honors or not, do NOT take this class. She expects the students to teach the class history and yells at you if it is wrong. She doesn't give a hint for what is on the midterm, and doesn't help out. She is rude and does not teach!. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS EVEN IF YOU LOVE HISTORY!!
Great teacher. Anyone who says otherwise is either lazy and not willing to put forth effort, or illiterate and failed all of the essays. Lots of reading and writing for this class, but you will learn plenty if you pay attention. If you can't write well or handle the workload, you shouldn't be in college anyway.
I wouldn't recommend this teacher. Blabs on, hard to follow; no structure. very boring. Doesn't give any handouts out. her tests are ridiculous. barely has any relevance to what you learned. good luck studying. i earned A's on every essay and still did not pass because of my test. I have always loved/did well in history classes until her class.
This class sucked. If you're cool with 3 tests being 75% of your grade and 5 500 word "WAC" essays contained in the other 25% then have at it. 2 students in my class passed. The rest of us took d's and f's. Had a 3.7 GPA... Not this semester though! Never ever ever ever again. Emphasis on boring, and clearly here just to receive a paycheck.
I've taken her class and enjoyed it. Her lectures are long but when someone knows what they're talking about, lengthy lectures are expected. Notes allowed on essay days. Study guides provided for test. Her lectures align with information in text book- if you read it. Boring if you're 18 and don't care to study or pay attn. Be ready to learn!!
I got a B in both her history classes, but that's because I did all reading myself. You don't really have to show up for this class at all to pass. If you know your history well enough, then just don't show up. Obviously, show for the tests and essays. Really, this teacher, isn't really a teacher. She rambles on and on. Just read the book.
Honestly, I hated this class. I aced the essays, attended every class except one, took notes, and followed her horrible study guide for tests and still managed to fail the class. Extremely long lectures that honestly make no sense. Waste of time I now have to retake a history class to go to usf. I don't recommend her at all.
AWESOME TEACHER.
Great teacher, kind and organized
Great teacher. Always there to help; loved this class.
Really good teacher, keeps political bias minimal and helps students with chronology by reminding them to think of it as a story. Attendance started out as a mandatory thing, but for some reason she stopped taking attendance. Would definitely recommend this instructor.
I got all A's and B's on her 6 essays, but got D's or F's on her tests. her lectures don't really help at all, and if you aren't a person who is inclined in history i would not take her class. if you skipped all the lectures it would not make a difference, and she only gives 3 tests that are worth 75% of your grade (no final) and are very hard.
Dr. Seiler lectures are too long and doesn't really gives you any help with the class. I got an A on every essay we had to write, got an F on two tests and was failing. I decided to stop going to her class since I would have had to take the course over anyway. Her test are extremely tough and her lectures aren't good preparation. Read the textbook
Very boring, long lectures. There are 5 essays worth 25% altogether, 3 tests worth 75% altogether. I got all A's on her essays but D's on her tests, and I studied weeks in advanced. She's nice, but her class was not the easiest. If you love history and can teach yourself the material, take this class.
I just started and its ok so far I just hate that you cant review your quiz after you move on. #ONLINECLASS
This professor is terrible. Do not take her. She has long boring lectures that have NOTHING to do with the tests she gives. It is difficult to pass this class if you do not ALREADY know about history. I withdrew from this class to avoid failing. I got 100's on her essays (one every other week) but her tests are impossible.
So many things to say about this class. If you have no choice, consider this tips: The book is boring and chapters are long. YouTube videos from " Apush" are life savers. 3 exams 25% each of your grade. She is really picky and loves facts+details. This was not the easiest class. I worked really hard and manage to get a B...
Quite possibly one of the most knowledgeable history teachers I've ever had. She knew the material inside and out, told you on a regular basis what you need to know for the tests and kept it interesting. Only 4 grades counting for 25% of your grade each makes this class not for the faint hearted. Looking for an easy A? Don't take this class.
Tests were the only thing that was graded heavily as essay barley counted
DO NOT TAKE her class online or even in person, probably the worst proffesor on campus, assignments due at 7pm?? What a joke. Were adults not 10 year olds. Not to mention gives some of the hardest tests I have ever taken, seriously YOU DO NOT WANT HER AS YOUR PROF.
If you take her class make sure you buy the books new so you get the mindtap access code, you'll need it
I do not recommend this teacher. I took it online and dropped the class. Assignments open on Wed and are due by Sat by 7pm only 5 days. Quizzes have nothing to do with the chapters you read for that week AND on top of that the quizzes are 20 questions due in 20 min. I cant even get half way through a quiz. Do not take her if you dont know history.
Great teacher, but her midterm and final exams are nothing compared to the review. Essays are easy, just reiterate the reading. Lots of reading! She knows her stuff, but the exams are difficult since she does not provide the correct material. The essays are not helpful for the midterm and final exams. Essays are just your input on what you read.
First time doing Euro History, so 90% of the info was brand new to me. Seemed accessible for questions. I didn't like the Cengage that much, but it's just a text w/ question and answers, typical I guess. No discussions, kind of disappointed about that. Exams were easy if you passed your quizzes - essay was just a synopsis of the chapters.
long boring chapters that only a history guru would understand. The Test are difficult !
I took the 6 week summer course. If you aren't good with strict deadlines don't take this course. 2 deadlines a week. I got an A but barely and it wasn't easy. No test review 50% essay and 50% multiple choice questions. You'll have to read the chapters. Surprise essay topic but I just showed that I read and understood the chapter.
Fairly easy class. She likes to focus more on the effects of people and policy's rather than small details like dates. Had to write 4 essays based on articles in the book but we could bring notes for them. The tests were difficult but if you complete the review she posts its not too hard.
Shes a tough grader. All of her tests are 40 MC, and one essay, but the essay is very important. Her lectures are super boring, so try your best to ask questions and take notes. There is no paper, so that is why the essays in the tests are important. Weekly online homework due every Saturday at 11pm, not 11:59, so be aware. She was my first B.
I didn't interact with the professor the entire semester other than one email. It is just read the chapter, take the test every week. Some weeks have 2 or 3 chapters to cover. Its a lot of reading. The professor offers no insight on the exam, just try to remember everything! It is an easy A if you don't mind reading a ton and you're good at tests.
One of the worst professors Ive ever had. You might as well be taking a dmv online course cause its just you and a pdf textbook. No interaction whatsoever.
There is a lot to do in this class. There isn't enough time to do most of the homework. If you're doing other things outside of college like dual enrollment DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. I can barely keep up with the due dates.
SAVE YOUR SELF! She is the worst professor I have had so far at HCC. During the lectures, she doesn't even lecture she makes students present every week instead of teaching the lesson herself. The reviews aren't even helpful for the quizzes (there are 18 quizzes that are 30% of your grade). Also you have to read so much, probably the whole textbook
Quizzes every week! Prepare for midterm!!!!!!
Reading 30 to 80 pages weekly be ready!!
Professor Seiler's class wasn't always easy. The work assigned through the online textbook was, but there was a lot of studying to be done for each exam, and there are only three throughout the course, worth 20% of your grade. You can manage some extra credit through your essay on each exam though. Very understanding teacher, difficult exams!
I really enjoyed this class. The way her homework was set up, if you put in the time, you could have an 100% on all assignments. The tests did include an essay, which was a good chunk of the grade, but with the number of prompts to choose from, if you studied well for the multiple choice, the paper was not super difficult. Study those key terms!
She is a passionate and makes history engaging. Attendance isn't required, and she creates a relaxed class atmosphere—students ask questions. No essays and only three exams, plus adaptability we had 2 hurricanes! She ensures a manageable, enjoyable course. Highly recommended!
My favorite professor at HCC.The tests match up with exactly what she talks about in her lectures (show up take good notes) there is small written response portion of the test, you have 3 to 4 different topics to pick from and really if you just put down as much as you can about what she talks about in class, she will give you a good grade on it.
I would not recommend taking this Professor Seiler!
Dr. Seiler is an extremely straight-forward woman. She really cares about the success of her students. While there are weekly assignments, they do not take very long and it's easy to get a 100% on them. If you need help, there are lots of quizlets with information. Tests have 35 MC questions and an essay with MULTIPLE options to pick from.
I honestly have nothing but amazing things to say about Dr. Seiler. If you do the work which is honestly 2-4 assignments per week and take time to understand the reading you will succeed. She cares about her students and her lectures were well explained and straight to the point. I am not a fan of history but enjoyed her class very much.
This professor was nice, but just simple quizzes, including the syllabus quiz, are proctored. Normally I don't mind taking protctored tests when I have an actual test review, but she doesn't give us one at all. You basically have to memorize all homework questions. InQuizitive is used in this class which is not a good study tool, so beware of that.
