She is very into teaching and is willing to help you. She gives three non-cumulative tests but they are really hard. You have homework due every week which counts for about 10% of your grade. Attendance is not mandatory.
Tests are impossible. Isnt helpful in helping you know what is going to be on the test in class, lots and lots of material and little details to study.
She not bad at letting you know what is on the test, but isn't afraid to throw a curveball at you. She really likes accounting and is not bad at teaching it, but there is just so much detailed stuff covered in the course, its tough to learn it all
She is a great teacher, and her real world experience makes the class interesting. Tests are not difficult. They are similar to homework problems. I highly reccomend going to class.
I took professor Smith for Intermediate Accounting. The course is not too difficult, although it requires you to do the assignments and put forth a decent effort in studying for tests. professor Smith however is very helpful, always open to questions, and tries to make the course as student friendly as possible. On par with Beau parent's class
Great teacher. Very helpful. Not too difficult. All you need to do is attend class and read the book. Has past tests available to study.
Very helpful, knows the material about as well as you'd expect being beau's daughter. Overall, not too shabby of a course
LOVE CHRISTINE. crystal clear about expectations. she's a great public speaker so it makes the class enjoyable.
I've had professor Smith for 3 semesters now and she has been fantastic. She is super clear and very straight forward. She does not throw any curveballs on the exams. I highly recommend taking her class. She is one of my favorite professors at Tulane. Unfortunately, this is the last class I can take with her.
Christine is great! Took her for intermediate accounting. She is straightforward, gives out power points, and goes over problems in class.
Professor Smith is great. She's energetic, clear and tests exactly what she teaches. The class isn't that easy so I recommend going to every lecture because hearing her explain the concepts is way easier to understand than the text book.
I took Christine for financial accounting. Her lectures were boring and required full attention, however, she tests the same concepts she teaches. There is a lot of required homework every week online. Her tests are pretty straight forward and require practice. I received an A in her class with good effort. Overall, a solid class with clearcut info
At first I hated her and thought she was insane. I began realizing that her crazy enthusiastic style really helped me learn it and not all asleep.
I loved Christine from the moment she exploded into sheer joy over the accounting cycle and all it's glory. I was absolutely dreading accounting but one I got to the class I knew it would be a piece of cake. She is very very clear in her explanations. Although she does move fast it's not hard to keep up. Just make sure you understand everything!!!!
Christine is a wonderful professor. I've been flying through this class and I didn't expect to like accounting. She's extremely clear and explains well. SHow up, study and you'll do well. My only gripe is that I wish she would be more available outside of class.
She's tough, we all know this, but go to class and you will pass. I loved it and she is so enthusiastic. She was great for me and the homework can actually help you learn
I LOVE PROFESSOR SMITH! She makes her lectures engaging and clear. The are a lot of details that you need to remember for the test, but if you go over the problems you do in class, and the review session problems you will do just fine! She is super easy to approach and is full of passion for accounting, which I find inspirational. TAKE HER CLASS :)
So excited about accounting, she makes it pretty interesting. Go to class as the book doesn't do as good of a job as she does. Very enthusiastic at 9:30am!
The pro is devoting, but accounting is a demanding class.
Prof Smith is a great teacher. She's extremely clear and knows how to teach you the material. She wants everyone to succeed all you have to do is show up to class. If you miss class you'll get behind and its very difficult trying to learn the material on your own. I never used the textbook and the only homework is weekly online assignments.
Wow. SO enthusiastic about accounting it's actually insane, and so her lectures are more entertaining than they should be. The tests are killer though, so you have to be prepared to work for it.
She's insane but in a good way. Ive never seen anyone get that excited over accounting but it made me excited about accouting. Taking her class was one of my favorite at tulane so far. Its not the easiest class but if you go to class and the TA review sessions youll do fine in the class.
Christine Smith is the BEST accounting teacher there is. She is so enthusiastic and passionate about accounting. You definitely need to go to classes because her lectures are exactly what will be on the exams. I had to study really hard for her exams but it's no memorization, all practice with the problems. Definitely take her!!
Super enthused about topic.. Will get a passing grade if you try a little bit.
Hard class but very doable. Attendance isn't mandatory so you're tempted in skipping class espescially when the test dates are so far apart from each other but don't! Going to class helps so much. TA's are really helpful and so is Christine during her office hours. Second test of 3 is absolutely killer, make sure you study a ton for that one.
Christine is the best. Cares so much about accounting but also her students. Just a genuinely good person and if you don't understand the material right away which happens, the TA's have office hours every day of the week which is extremely helpful. Great class, better teacher
Great lecturer and made accounting fun, you have to really study a lot but it's worth it.
Christine is the best. Makes accounting interesting. Tests are difficult but attend TA review session the week before and go through the practice problem a minimum of 5 times. You'll do very well. Read the textbook for terminology and example multiple choice questions that may be used on her exams. You must attend class.
I love Christine. She will really make you enjoy accounting. If you skip one class, you will be extremely behind and probably very confused. I highly recommend going to every single class even though she does not take attendance. Her lectures are thorough and she does not tolerate reviewing for those who skip. Her tests are directly from class examples. I went to every class and devoted a few consecutive days to studying and did well. Weekly online homework assignments and 3 (intense) tests.
Professor Smith absolutely loves her job. She can be too much for some people but it's just her passion. I think professor Smith is the best person to learn accounting from. She gives many examples and wants you to succeed. Her tests are overwhelming you almost always run out of time for them. I would absolutely recommend taking her.
This class is what you put into it. Pay attention in the lectures and practice the problems that night. The review sessions are really helpful. Don't memorize and understand the concepts. Sometimes she threw stuff on us to learn last minute and it wasnt even addressed in the review. Also remember to learn some basic definitions for the MC.
Financial Accounting: Prof Smith gives the most enthusiastic lectures. She is clearly passionate and about the material and experienced in the field. I absolutely recommend taking her class. She does make you work, but she provides study sessions before tests and is clear about test topics. The only bummer: her textbook is pricey. Loved this class!
Really great professor. She makes accounting interesting. It is a lot of work, but show up to class and do the homework and you will be fine.
She is the best option for Financial Accounting. Mainly runs through examples in class and expects you to read the textbook (which is very pricey) to get the rest of the information. Not an easy 'A' but she is the best teacher available.
Christine is super nice and amazing!! Her teaching style is really clear and interesting and she just tests what she taught in class. First test and the third one are very easy. Time for second test is somewhat tight. Make sure to review those charts she taught before tests.
Christine was amazing!! She is by far my favorite professor at Tulane. She goes out of her way to make sure that you really understand the material and she wants you to do well. Her class is a lot of work, but you'll really understand accounting afterwards. Take her class!! You won't regret it!
Best lectures you will get at Tulane. Yes, the class is really difficult. If you don't go, you will fail. She's always available in office hours and goes far out of her way to help you understand. If you always go to class and take attentive notes and/or go to office hours it won't be that bad. Only buy WileyPlus if you can deal with digital text
Great prof that makes a boring class interesting but she is also harsh. Says she is approachable but once you ask qs she'll reprimand you for not knowing things. TOUGH GRADER but you will learn so much. Go to office hours after the 3 tests to bump up your grades. Also graded on time consuming online hw/quizzes and optional final.
Christine is the best professor at Tulane and really cares about her students. You have to work hard for your grade.
If you have to take financial accounting, take it with Smith. The lectures were very content-heavy but she kept it interesting. You definitely need to go to every class in order to get all the material. 3 tests, difficult because of time. Weekly online homeworks and quizzes that help, but take up time. Don't buy the physical book, only buy Wiley+
Professor Smith is the best accounting teacher, 100% take her. She changed the formats of the tests around to be easier to take in the time given. Tests are still difficult but most people are able to take them with plenty of time left over after she changed them this semester. Overall amazing teacher and really listens to student feedback.
One of the best professors I've ever had -- if not the best. Christine is an extremely enthusiastic professor who is invested in doing the best teaching job she can. She is very clear on what you need to know, teaches it well, and relates it to the world as compared to "academic la-la land." She cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
Christine Smith is a really good teacher if you come prepared to class. You have to read the textbook and pay attention or you'll be screwed for the tests since the homework/quizzes are easy to find answers to online.
Christine knows what she is talking about and answers all your questions thoroughly. A very experienced CPA. However, the review sessions for exams to not match example questions on the tests, she shows heavy preference to honors students, and I studied harder for these tests than any other class in my life and I got Cs or lower on all of them
Christine is very passionate about the material and wants her students to be engaged and succeed. Must study a lot for her tests and complete weekly homework assignments but overall the class is very doable.
Best professor at Tulane. She's scary in class but so nice if you meet with her and make an effort. Her lectures are funny and if you go to class an A is pretty easy.
Absolutely amazing professor. The class is hard regardless, but she makes accounting as entertaining as it could be in class. Extremely well respected and liked.
Christine is a great teacher and I learned alot. But the last two tests are impossible because she can't test like she has in the past and is still working out how she wants to do it. Take her just because a lot of people can help you.
Very passionate about accounting and willing to help! You must study quite a bit for her class though, as her exams are very application-based.
Christine loves accounting way too much. She loves her students. The class is difficult. She's not going to make it easy on you.
she is extremely knowledgeable but she goes really fast. I wish she recorded her lectures so that i could go back and listen to them. She is passionate but it is a hard class and the tests are nothing like the lectures. the questions are hard and confusing - i wish we did more multiple choice in class so that we would be prepared for the test.
Actually a great teacher for a core business course, which seems rare. She tells you literally everything you need to know for the tests. 85% of your grade is tests, though. Go to class, do the homework and it's a pretty easy A or A-
Christine is probably the best professor at Tulane. She is so enthusiastic and really makes you appreciate accounting. People say she's hard, but if you go to every class and study for the tests you will be absolutely fine. Take advantage of help outside of class and READ THE TEXTBOOK!!!! Final is optional if you are passing.
Christine Smith is almost too passionate about accounting, and it's inspiring. She provides ever tool you could need to be successful. If you read the textbook, do the online homework, and go to the TA-led review sessions, you will be fine. I would highly recommend her if you want to actually learn/understand accounting.
i saw all these ratings and thought the class was going to be a lot different. She is a very intelligent person and but she talks and goes through the material extremely fast, especially for an intro course. 25% of the class failed the second exam and she didnt even curve it. She makes tests questions designed to trick
Christine Smith is pretty much the best teacher you can get for accounting. She makes her lectures pretty interesting. Financial accounting is inherently difficult, but reading/taking notes from the textbook and her lectures will help tremendously. Quiz questions are sometimes word for word on exams. The best teacher from my freshman year.
Best in the entire accounting department. Class isn't mandatory but you should go because what she says is important. Online quizzes and hw due each week. Tests are pretty straightforward but can be difficult if you don't understand the math component of accounting
She cares a lot about accounting, but that's not necessarily a good thing
She is a tough grader but she teaches very well in class. Really want to take her class again!
This class is VERY hard. I withdrew as I changed my major midway. However, she is very nice and a good teacher BUT you do HAVE to go to class to understand fully and because attendance is graded.
Shes good at teaching and lectures are good. However, she is an evil woman. Long homework every week. During the corona transition to online classes, she did not respond to my emails and I didnt know how to take a midterm. God forbid she show any empathy during this time and try to help me or even respond to me. She wouldnt fix my wrong test grade.
One of the best professors ever. The only reason I didn't get an A was because of the transition to online classes. We have homework every week but is very relevant and easy if you pay attention in class. Her lectures are easy to focus on because she is so engaging. I did not know someone could make accounting so interesting. TAKE HER
Professor Smith was one of my favorite professors I have had at Tulane. I was scared that I would do poorly in accounting, but she made it easy to understand. Her class was my favorite one of the semester. She was always there to help her students. She loves accounting, which helps students enjoy learning the material.
Professor Smith is the best professor for accounting! She is amazing! Everyone loves her because of her passion for accounting and how hilarious she is during her lectures. She made accounting easy to understand. Anyone that's looking for an amazing accounting professor needs to take Professor Smith.
100% take for ACCN2010. One of the best professors I've had. She is so passionate and makes a dry subject exciting. Homework is long and frequent, but really helps in understanding the material. Tests were pretty straightforward, but this is a difficult subject to master. Go to class (she makes it fun) and read the chapters before lecture.
participate in her lectures and go to office hours. She is always available for office hours and loves to help. Very straightforward with her students. She wants everyone to succeed and lectures are engaging for the most part
Incredible class. She can teach quickly but is thorough and will answer any questions you have to the fullest extent. What an incredible teacher would take her 1000000 times again. She cares so much and wants to help.
Read the textbook before class, and attend the lectures/take notes and you will be fine. Accounting is not an easy course however Prof Smith gives her students many tools and tries to explain concepts multiple ways in order to ensure understanding. Also she is really funny- class is never boring. Keep up with the work and you'll pass.
Great professor who is VERY passionate about accounting. A real sweetheart though and loves Tulane football a LOT.
LOML She is amazing. She takes a confusing subject and really does try to make it understandable to the students. Her WileyPlus programming is a little bit annoying to get used to but she is def accommodating with it. She is super understanding if you go to her privately too.
I took 2 years of accounting in high school and somehow ended up with a B, but I couldn't have had a better experience in this class. Smith is so engaging and the sweetest prof ever, and she wants you to really understand the material even if you aren't going into accounting. The final is optional if you have above a D. Good amount of homework too.
She is an amazing teacher. Go to her office hours if you need help and so she knows who you are. The tests are a little tricky but she provides you with so man resources so that you can do well. She really cares about her students learning.
She is a great Financial Accounting professor. 3 Tests and if you don't do well you can take the cumulative final. Take her.
Professor Smith is awesome. She is such a good teacher and knows exactly what she is doing. Her class is well organized and she provides great study materials. And if you do well on the 3 tests you dont have to take the final. Take her!!
Take Professor Smith for accounting! She makes a difficult course a LOT easier. She is super engaging in lectures and genuinely cares about her student's success (and is so passionate about accounting). If you are willing to put in the work you can do well.
She is really funny and truly passionate about accounting. You will not do well in this class unless you read the textbook and take good notes. She teaches with the assumption that you mostly know what she is talking about from reading. I thought I was going to struggle and hate accounting, but she ended up making me like it.
Absolutely love professor Smith she is an amazing teacher and makes accounting super interesting and easy to understand. Cannot recommend her enough!!
First of all, this review is for Prof. Smith's ACCN 4110 class. I've heard nothing but great things about her ACCN 2010 course. Anyways, this class was such an after-thought for her. Actually going to class in-person isn't very helpful. Exams are worth 90% of your grade, which sucks because you will probably have to teach yourself the material.
Christine Smith is great! She makes the lectures interesting and the topics easy to understand. Quizzes for every chapter which isn't amazing but she drops the lowest grade. 3 exams and if you do well you don't have to take the final. Not super accessible but she gives you plenty of resources to learn the material.
Christine Smith teaches Financial Accounting very well. There's 3 assignments due once a week, but all at the same time. It can take awhile, but it's not overwhelming. There are also a lot of resources that you can use to help. In class we go through accounting problem, which I think is the best way to learn accounting.
not worth it if you are not interested in accounting. you have to read and learn the material by yourself beforehand, or else you will be completely lost for the rest of the semester. there's a lot of work to do, but also a lot of learning resources to help you learn the material. sometimes condescending
Professor Smith will make you love accounting even if the material does not come easy. She expects a lot of outside work on your part, but GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS! She is helpful outside of class even if you just want advice or a general review of a subject. Her lectures are engaging, and you can tell she has a strong passion for what she does.
She's a really good teacher for financial accounting. The material can be hard but if you read and go to class, you will be fine. The homework is manageable and I think she was really good at making the material interesting regardless of its difficulty.
Professor Smith is probably the best professor I've ever had and inspired me to pursue accounting as a career. She's super funny, engaging, and passionate about accounting. Outside of class, she is very accessible even with her busy schedule. Grading is test-heavy but if you attend class, practice, and do the homework, you'll be more than prepared.
She is the best professor for ACCN2010. You don't have to go to class, but she does random polling questions that are 5% of your grade. Each week there is a quiz and two homework assignments that are all through an online platform. There are 3 midterms and if you like your grade you don't have to take the final. 100% reccommend.
Smith is the best lecturer I've had at Tulane. The content of the course isn't the most interesting, but she is so engaging and passionate about accounting that it became my favorite class of the semester. There's 2 HW assignments and a quiz per week + 3 midterms and a final, which you don't have to take if you're happy with your grade. Take her!!!
Love Professor Smith. Makes tough concepts really easy to grasp, and the first 3/4th of the class is a breeze. She'll have you buy an online textbook, (Wiley Plus). Last 1/4th of the class moves a little quick, so just make sure you keep going to class. The final is optional
Smith's the goat for Financial Accounting. She runs the 5 year Masters of Accn program and knows her stuff and loves it. She's super passionate and made me want to be an accountant even though I have no interest. Class is pretty lecture heavy though, she doesn't use slides so you have to take good notes. Pretty easy A in my opinion.
Professor Smith is extremely engaging in class and in her videos. I took her course over the summer, so there was a lot of material in a little bit of time. Prof. Smith assigned all her tests for this course on Wiley+, where the homework and quizzes were also located. The new format for the exams forces you to use your time very wisely.
Makes you feel horrible for asking questions and not remembering every small detail of her lectures. Her tests are difficult because she takes off a lot of points for minor errors. Even if you understand things well, it's hard to get an A. She isn't approachable at all. She's fine at teaching the material, but I left every class with a bad mood.
She is nice and her lectures are very engaging. One of the best professors I've had so far. She goes very fast, though, so you need to make sure you are asking for help if you don't understand something. This is a class that will take up a lot of time, don't expect it to be easy.
Ok so if u want a professor that cares about you, THEN THIS AINT UR WOMAN. I TOLD HER A FAMILY MEMBER DIED AND I COULDN'T COME TO HER OFFICE HOURS AND SHE SHRUGGED. I do not respect or appreciate someone who I feel is not accommodating and not a great teacher. If u have a natural talent for accounting I'm sure she's fine but I do not possess that.
Prof Smith is the best. She does a great job teaching accounting. There is a decent amount of homework, but its very manageable, and it is so helpful for the test. Takes attendance randomly, but you need to go to class anyways to be able to do well, so it is not a huge issue. SI sessions are also great and so helpful.
Smith is an awesome professor. Lectures are very engaging and make accounting, a rather dry subject in itself, much more interesting. Definitely try to get her if you can for Accounting 2010.
Christine Smith is my absolute favorite professor. She's caring and has a gift for teaching. She's engaging and really wants each of her students to learn and be successful. She holds office hours and encourages all to come for extra help. Lots of homework but it's spaced out and manageable. Smith is by far the best option for Financial Accounting!
Prof Smith has been my best professor at Tulane so far. She cares about her students and works hard to ensure that we actually learn. After covid she stopped doing a test dropped and online test taking but her tests are fair and very reflective of the material. If you keep up on homework you won't need to study much for the quiz. Is time consuming
The best professor I have had so far. The homeworks take a lot of time, but they help you understand the material so it is worth it. The lectures are also very helpful for homework and she makes sure you know the material before moving on. If you miss a class, you will fall behind, but she is easy to reach during office hours.
Best teacher I have ever had. Without a doubt, she cares about the success of her students. The most important thing is that you go to class and ask questions! Don't be afraid to chat with her after class/get to know her. She rocks and is willing to work with you if you put in the effort. If you take ACCN2010, YOU MUST TAKE PROFESSOR SMITH!
Professor Smith is an excellent professor. Accounting is a challenging course so there's no getting around that, but professor Smith does a really good job of explaining the concepts and her lectures are interesting and she keeps students engaged with her sense of humor and lots of questions.
Basically, the Accn4110 is not the good option for business elective course. I took this class for a mistake, the average grade of the first midterm is 60/100, which results me drop this course. Christine Smith doesn't know how to teach in an effective way.
Professor Smith is VERY overrated and I regret taking her so much only because people historically say she's really good. She thinks she's great but she does not know how to teach effectively and that was clearly reflected after our first midterm. She is very disorganized and teaches the class with basically no presentation and jumps all over.
Professor Smith, does a good job of explains the material. Test are straightforward. Final was all multiple choice. I recommend taking this class. Watch out for the quizzes she does during class I thought they were participation but she grades the quizzes on accuracy.
She is definitely the best option for financial accounting, but the class is difficult. She's a tough grader when it comes to formatting, but she does "carry with error" so you can't really bomb a test unless you really don't know what you're doing. She seems unapproachable at first but just go to office hours to get on her good side.
Christine is a sweet women. She has passion for the course and cares for her students. In this course you have to read on average 6 hours worth of textbook readings for each chapter, do 2 homework assignments and take an hour long quiz. You then have blank paper as your exam and have to make financial statements. It is tough.
Christine has been my favorite B School Professor so far; she is caring. ACCN-2010 is not easy, but there is a lot of homework and weekly chapter quizzes, but watch the videos and take notes before class. She gives you blank paper for tests, but I'm more interested in accounting now because of her. She gives back points as long as you do well!!!
Professor Smith is the best professor I have taken at Tulane so far. Accounting is a hard concept to learn but she is genuinely so passionate about what she's teaching she makes it easier and more interesting. Just go to lectures, do your homework, and go to SI sessions and I promise you will get a good grade.
My least favorite professor I've had at Tulane. So disappointed bc so many comments raved about her. Her exams are unfair, everyone is getting 60s on them and she blames the students. Her voice is irritating as she screams into the microphone in her lectures. The work is unbearable if you have other things going on. Went for help and she was rude.
Let's put it this way: Christine is an amazing professor. However, she has a unique teaching style that I didn't vibe with. No PowerPoints, just her and white board talking. Forces you to pay attention but is also difficult to keep up with. She is a nice person, but a very serious teacher. If you can vibe with this, take her. If not, I'd stay away.
If you are the smartest person, you will have a hard time with christine. First of all you better go to class because her lectures are 100% just her talking. No presentations, slideshows, or notes. And when she does write something on her iPad, it's in her awful illegible handwriting. Her voice is one of the most irritating sounds i've ever heard.
Christine is the worst, if u actually want to learn u have to read the textbook for hours a week, go to SI session & seek help. She has zero presentations or notes during class she just screams in the microphone hot diggity and stuff about not being ready to have margaritas cuz you don't know everything yet. Blank paper exams, everything memorized
I love Professor Smith. Her teaching style is straightforward, easy to follow, and I was able to learn the material quickly. Hard work is the key to success in her class. If you go to class you will do well.
Do bad in one test(~70) = basically no A unless you get high 90s in other 3 tests, too much homework/quizzes/adaptive assignments that don't really matter if you mess up one test. final is not optional, maybe it was before but it isn't in 2023. Very very hard to read handwriting, you have to do the reading yourself to really understand
Tough teacher, but very engaging. She will teach by walking you thru practice problems in class. Lots of HW but it's helpful bc the tests kinda study for themselves. Go to class, participate, get her to like you, and do the work. If you do that you will walk out with a ton of knowledge and a solid grade.
At first, I just assumed financial accounting was super difficult, and it was normal for me to get low Bs and C+s on every test. This was until I realized my friends who never go to class and had another professor were cruising with As. So if you're looking for an A don't take Smith, but if you actually want to be an accountant take Smith.
The lectures can be boring, but they are extremely helpful. She is a great teacher and really wants to help every individual to learn to the best of their ability. There are lots of ways to boost your grade if you did not do good on the exams, homework and quizzes, but the exams aren't hard because they are like practice problems we do in class.
I swear by Ms.Smith, best teacher I think I will EVER have. Im not a fan of accounting at all, and quite frankly, I know I would dread class every day unless I had her. If you can take her class TAKE IT. Shes always super lively and she gives you back A LOT of points on your test if you just go visit her office hours. Shes a fair grader and awesome
Christine is very good at teaching. I personally hate accounting, but she makes It bearable. Each class, she does a walk-through of a problem that pertains to the entire chapter. Super energetic, will give you back points if you go see her in office hours. And she usually screams "hot diggity"
Professor Smith is the most engaging and fun teacher I've ever had. I was terrified to have her because of some of the reviews on here. I literally promise you those are people who just did not try. For this class, you have to do the readings and genuinely study. But if you are on top of ur stuff, then the tests will be a breeze.
Goated professor. Took her for 2010, and now intermediate 2, both classes were very fair. we had 3 exams, cumulative final, homework and in-class problems. IC problems prepare you super well for exams, her lectures are so energetic and engaging despite it being 8am. Take any class you can with her, she makes accounting so interesting and cool.
not a very fair teacher at all but easy class
She is one of the best professors I've ever had and she is so knowledgeable. She truly made a potentially boring class so much fun and was super willing to help you out. As long as you go to class and do the homework, things will work out Her teaching style isnt for everyone but she gives everyone the tools to succeed.
I dont really need to say much, but she is THE tulane professor. shes been doing this for years and is still AMAZING. best professor in the school. tests are super fair, just memorize the the financial statements for the open response. also the SI Emma Stenzel is the GOAT. tons of resources available for your help. you need to take her.
One of the only professors that can actually make you interested in Accounting.
Christine was SUCH a good professor but financial accounting is quite a difficult class. Lots of new material, LOTS of hefty homework and you need to stay on top of exams. Almost failed out because of the exams - study hard and use resources. She is very kind and smart, though. Engaging class despite a hard subject.
Take this class if you want to major in Accounting. Otherwise, do not. Her lectures are engaging, but she explains things in a more complicated way than needed. The average on the exams is usually 70-75. I failed my first exam, but after that, I did way better ( 88 on the 2nd, 85 on the 3rd, and 88 on the final). SI sessions are a must to attend.
Good teacher, accessible outside class, and reasonable tests. Very passionate and has good energy in class.
Prof Smith is the best ever for accounting, she is so passionate about it and it really shows. There are three tests, homework, and a final that you are graded on. Go to office hours, she gives points back if you recognize mistakes and make an active effort to learn and improve!
Professor Smith is the best professor I've had. She wants all her students to succeed. Tests are straight forward and if you go to class, complete homework, and go to SI sessions you should be fine.
Least favorite professor at Tulane. If you don't know anything accounting DO NOT take her. She expects you to understand everything and teaching style is awful. You HAVE to read the textbook if you want to do well. She's not a good person and can be very rude. Says she wants students to succeed but was not helpful when I tried to meet with her.
If you are a motivated, quick learner, and genuinely interested, you are going to get an A. If you do the practice that she gives in class you will do really well in this class. Anybody that says bad things about her are likely poor students, have bad study habits, and do not work hard. Trust me, take her. She is amazing person and teacher.
Professor Smith is a great professor. It is a pretty hard class but Professor Smith does a great job trying to help us understand it. You don't have to go to class but you need to go to understand the content.
A good accn 2010 professor - take her because you will get one of the best SIs out there. The only thing is, you NEED to read the textbook before the lecture to understand her in class, or you NEED to REALLY understand her in-class problems to grasp the concepts. It wasn't too hard, but sometimes she was condescending when you asked a question.
very good professor and midterms are pretty straight forward... A lot of you grade is based on multiple choice so that can make the course hard.(final is only multiple choice)...For some people who are good at multiple choice that's good but for others like me it can be bad. Nevertheless I have learned so much!!!!
Professor Smith is the reason why I want to pursue an accounting career. She lectures very well, is direct with feedback, and links students with valuable resources outside of the class. I struggled at the beginning, but if you put time and effort into understanding the content, it is very doable. Participation in class is also well appreciated.
I dreaded going to this class every day. Christine is very loud and obnoxious and can be condescending if you are struggling or not understanding a topic. Do not take her unless you are going to do the 5 year accn program
Class is tough in general but Professor Smith is a very good teacher. Classes are all lectures that usually end early which is nice. Homework can take a long time but if you go to class and pay attention you'll be fine. Midterms are difficult and force you to master the material but you'll do well as long as you study. Overall great professor.
Prof Smith was my favorite professor last semester. She makes accounting exciting and very accessible. Her tests are very straightforward, and her lectures cover everything you need to know. GO TO CLASS! She is very good at what she does. Complete your assignments on time, go to the SI sessions, and ask questions, and you will be completely fine.
nice and helpful, very hard subject and exams unfortunately
The test guidelines are really clear. The class is just hard in general.
Heard great things about Prof Smith but was disappointed by her class. Even as a motivated student I found this class quite difficult and at times confusing. Her teaching style is not great as it is very textbook heavy. There are 3 tests and a final that basically determine your grade. Go to SI sessions, Emma is the best and they really help.
Christine is a great professors and has so many resources to make sure you do well in the class. She doesn't take attendance but I would recommend going because the lectures are interesting! There is a fair amount of work and a mutiple choice quiz every chapter. Super good class and you should take it and utilize the SI sessions!
I hate this class. Accounting is already hard to understand, and she makes it even harder. The homework takes so long, and the tests are unnecessarily difficult. If you get one bad grade, your entire grade tanks, that's all. I don't recommend.
THE BEST professor I have ever had. If I could rate her higher I would. ACCN-2010 is not an easy class, but she makes it so enjoyable. She's very passionate about the topic and it's so inspiring to listen to her lectures. She is very detailed in explaining test content and the tests directly apply to what we learn in class. Class always ends early!
Professor Smith's ACCN2010 class is challenging but rewarding. Lectures can be dense, so attending SI sessions with Emma is a must. Leveraging unstuckstudy alongside the textbook helps grasp the material. Overall, a tough yet valuable accounting course.
She is super passionate about accounting and absolutely hilarious. No one better to take the course with. Genuinely wants you to learn. Attendance isn't mandatory but definitely recommended for a good grade and understanding of the content.
Christine might be one of the best profs at Tulane. Teaches in a very clear manner and the tests are exactly what she says they will be. Somehow makes accounting a fun class, and genuinely wants her students to do well. Homeworks can take awhile but translate directly into the exams and are good review.
Professor Smith is what you want in a teacher. This doesn't mean it will always be easy, but she makes the content easy to understand and through the homeworks and in class problems you will be prepared for the tests if you pay attention. She clearly outlines the learning objectives and the schedule for the year. Tests are very straightforward.
Smith is super passionate about accounting that it can even be obnoxious at times and in your face. That said, she makes the material easy to digest although it's complicated and clearly highlights in the syllabus what you have to do. Homework can take hours if you do it all in one night. Tests are straightforward and not too hard. Would recommend.
Christine Smith is a solid accounting professor, though challenging. I found her midterms difficult, and after the first one, she suggested I drop the class for not understanding the fundamentals. Despite this, I passed. Her final was multiple choice, unlike other professors. She uses Excel, not board steps, which I didn't find helpful.
Christine Smith was a good professor - the class is difficult but she is pretty good at explaining concepts. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps to go to class. Tests are very fair and as long as you study you will be fine. Plus, love the SI, she was the most helpful thing ever and the best part of taking this class. If you can, take Christine
Great teacher, very clear and if you do the homework and study you will be fine. Would recommend Christine to anyone, best financial accounting teacher!
I loved her class. She's extremely nice and available outside of class. Make sure to do the extra practice and attend SI sessions if you want to do well in the class. She uses Wiley for everything, and as long as you practice the adaptive assignments and learn how to do each statement, you will do well in this class.
Goat of accounting. She's funny, explains the material well. Has lots of work but it makes it impossible to fail the class. I actually started enjoying accounting bcuz of her. Take her if u actually wanna learn but be prepared
Christine is by far the best option for this class. She is funny and has the class down to a science. The class material is difficult and fast-paced. If you miss 1 lecture you will be very behind. Many students struggle because they don't do the reading. If you do the reading and attend every class and SI session you should get a pretty good grade.
Was debating if I should take her because of some bad reviews but now that I have I can say FOR SURE I made the right choice. I have so much respect for her. The content is difficult but if you go, put in work outside of class and attend SI sessions (she always gets a good one) you will be fine. She enjoys teaching and cares about her students.
Christine Smith is a great human being. She is very passionate about accounting, which helped me stay engaged in her lectures. Exams are worth 74% of your grade, which is not ideal but common, so you need to do well on all of them (B or higher), but I think it is manageable to do so!! Just take good notes in class, and you will be fine.
Everything is structured so well. I had her for financial, so I was familiar w/ her Canvas/Wiley, but she layed everything out perfectly. Personally, I think this class is so fair that I'd have taken it for the skills, even if I wasn't studying accounting. Tests are exactly like the in-class HW problems. Final is from the Wiley quiz questions.
While accounting can be very difficult, Professor Smith's lectures are extremely descriptive and helped me understand the material. It's not mandatory to come to class, but nearly everyone did because the class would be very hard to pass without the lectures. The final was way too difficult though.
you don't have to come to class, but do!!! i didn't think it would click for me but she tries her best to explain. she cares so much about it it makes me care more. take her!!!!
Having her a second time, I was just as impressed by the organization and layout of the class that made everything so easily understandable. Even for an 8 am, she was energetic and inspired all of us to feel the same. Tests are very similar to class problems and she outlines directly how to suceed.
Attend the class!!! She has top-hat quizzes not every time but usually when she finished a module and that score will count into your grade. I missed a few classes and lost some good amount of points. Exams are fair if you really study, otherwise it would be hard and super stressful. I felt like my life was so miserable but my finals was good.
Going to class helps a lot in understanding the material for the exams. A lot of material to remember and understand, so not doing your HW, assessments, and quizzes will for sure cause you to fall behind. She's also always having office hours if you need extra help.
Everyone said she was an amazing teacher so I decided to take her and didn't find her to be all that. For someone who asks a lot of questions, she wasn't very accessible outside of class and didn't respond to her email once. I would take her again just because she wasn't bad but she's overhyped
if you did not read the LONGEST 4 chapters before class you wont understand ANYTHING of whats going on. i could keep up with the reading and still not understand what she was talking about. confused me 10x worse. also, every time i asked her a question after class she would treat me so bad. honestly i dont recommend.
Always brings amazing energy to class and clearly cares about her students. She is very clear about what will be on the tests and as long as you read the textbook you will do good. Also hilarious.
