great. dont need book, and she gives review with exact test questions
Great Experienced teacher Follows her own organized personalized lessons. Don't make her angry or else you'll regret it. Keep in touch on Changes in her Schedules.
Very easygoing, makes class interesting, posts notes online, gives review outlines for tests. Is a little obvious about political stance, but is not intimidating at all. Good teacher. :)
Very nice woman who makes class as interesting as possible. Powerpoint notes, not on blackboard, so must go to class. Lots of participation points. 4 tests, study guide given for each one that really helps.
Mrs. Steineck is probably one of the best Com teachers there is at U. of L. Definitely take her as much as you can because she's fairly easy, but interesting, fun, super helpful, caring, and very down-to-Earth all at the same time. You really get you're cake and eat it too with her, not to mention she also knows the material very well.
She teaches 201 and 315. She's easy. Don't buy the book. Be sure to go to class the day before the test as she usually gives a study guide. She keeps it simple and only gives you info you really need to know. You can't go wrong with Steineck.
Extremely casual teacher. Hard grader. Tricky multiple choice tests. 4 speeches make up most of grade. Don't get on her bad side.
I found 315 much harder than 201 with her but I still ended with an A. She grades the papers fairly tough. Study guides were less clear than the ones in 201. In class points are still key though, even if she puts the notes on blackboard. I'd still highly recommend her
Very interesting, 10 in class assignments and 3 that count as extra credit. Four exams that come EXACTLY from the study guide she gives you the class before the test. Its a no brainer. If you go to class or get someone to turn in the in class assigments for you and you study the study guide you WILL get an A!
Very likable professor. Class is easy. Powerpoints are on Blackboard. Funny lady, really knows her stuff. Quizzes are somewhat easy. Go on review days, she gives you study guides. The book is somewhat useless to purchase. Really interesting, I'd recommend her class to anyone. Very laid back.
Absolutely wonderful! Fabulous personality, down to earth and is on the student's side. Go to class, though, because it in class points are crucial and make getting an A easy. Tests can be worded kind of weird, but it's definitely manageable. Funny sense of humor. I enjoyed this class
I thought the class was horrible, it is boring and if you are not a comm major you dont have a clue what she is lecturing about. She does not grade any of your papers, her grad asst. grades them and it takes about 3 weeks to get your graded papers back. If you have questions you need to email the grad student not her, which is ridiculous. Dont Take
Print off powerpoint slides and just follow along in class. Must go to class to get attendance points. Don't buy the book, it's straight from her notes. Go on review day she tells you exactly what you need to know. Easy and helpful.
Great personality, class can be dry but she will work with you. Study guides are provided.
pretty interesting, very easy
She's awesome. She made us go on a scavenger hunt around campus for random stuff and gave us a took home test. She even let us "help each other" on the final. Book's not necessary. Practice for speeches though.
Had her for Honors Comm; very entertaining professor. Good lectures, but poor feedback on speeches. (Never did figure out what she was looking for.) Also, if you don't agree with her politics DON'T let her find out; she'll hold it against you.
I enjoyed her class. It could get a little boring because she read straight off the powerpoints. But, her study guides were very helpful and came straight from the notes. She is very understanding, and will help you if you talk to her. She was very laid back, and had a great personality!
Fabulous Professor! Very funny and easy to relate to. Definitely have to study to do well in this class. Read chapters, come to class and do the in class points, and study her study guide and you will get an A. Tests are easy and you can drop lowest grade at the end of the year. I DEFINITELY reccomend her.
She's awesome. Take her. She Gives 10 points for attendance per chapter, which sums up to more than what a whole test is worth. Make sure to study hard, though, she doesn't give away any extra credit and those 10 points are not extra credit. I thoroughly enjoyed this class, she's fun to listen to.
gives credit for students who come to class. very interesting and funny. she understood students when they had problems. i didn't open the book. she gives out study guides and reviews everything the class before tests. everything on the test is on the study guide. i will definitely take more of her classes.
Christine is amazing! She is really helpful and goes out of her way to make sure you do well. Do not get on her bad side and go to class. In-class points are the key. You can do decent or not so hot on the class and still get an A in the class because of them. If you have any problem, and you go to her she will do everything in her power to help!
I really enjoy Prof. Steineck!! all of her classes are fun and really informative!
Very easy, especially for an honors course. As long as you do the work, an A is not difficult to obtain. Tests are online and taken directly from the textbook and PowerPoints, which she puts online. She doesn't grade on the plus or minus scale.
She is very nice, very good teachers uses powerpoint. print out the slides and follow along in class, study the study guide class is a cake. Attendence is always taken. Papers are graded harder then you think, Tests have tricky questions like, a, b, or a and b, or only c .
This class was great. Steineck lectures off of power point and they're also posted on BB. Attend class because she does do daily participation points- it can help your grade so much. You don't need your book.
Steineck is a great professor with a rather interesting class. Hon 214 is an easy class to pad your GPA and get a OC and SB credit at the same time. Class is fun, and she is a fair grader on speeches. Strongly recommend.
I really learned a lot in this class. Don't bother buying the book because you will not use it. Please show up because she does do daily in class points. Other than that, it's a great class.
EASY A!! But BORING!! You DO NOT need the book. She goes over everything you need to know in her power points. Before each exam she gives you a study guide with all the answers to the test. There are usually in class assignments, but I never went to class or studied and got a B. A bit monotonousness, but go to class and you'll get an A.
The class is easy as long as you go to class. You don't need the textbook. She gives you a study guide before the test with all the answers. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get points for coming and participating. It can help your grade a lot to get those daily points!
Professor Steineck was awesome! She gives sometimes boring powerpoint notes in lecture but they are easy to understand. You do not need the book at all, she gives you a study guide with everything on it before tests. If you miss class for an emergency she will sometimes let you make up stuff. Great teacher!
Absolutely the easiest/most useless class you will ever take in college. You should have no trouble getting a 100% or greater in this course (B for comm majors)
Great teacher! A super easy class.
easiest teacher ever. she is a great teacher and covers a lot of material. but her tests are easy, she gives you all the PowerPoint notes, and you don't have to show up to class unless you want 10 points a day. real easy A
The class itself and content is super boring, but she tries to keep it interesting. I didn't use my textbook once. Class is based on 4 exams and an in class "assignment" daily for 10 points. If you show up to get your in class credit and study a minimal amount, you will get an A. Easy credit, I would recommend. Also, she posts PP's to blackboard.
First time teaching this class and it was pretty easy. She offers plenty of extra credit and as long as your write the journals for each class, you will get a good grade in the class. I really liked her!
This class wasn't hard: 3 online tests (open note) & 4 speeches. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Everything for the test is in the lecture notes that she puts on blackboard. You get extra credit for taking your speech to the Speech Center & can also email her your outline ahead of time and she'll fix any mistakes. Willing to answer any questions you have.
Christine is laid back and a nice teacher. She's not interesting, she's not boring, she just does her job and teaches straight from slides. All of her tests are online and she also provides the slides on there as well. Easy A.
Taken multiple classes with Steineck. She is a the best professor on campus. Wish I had the opportunity to take more of her classes. Study guides provided for the multiple choice tests. A few assignments throughout the semester but very simple. Highly recommend!
I am the worst public speaker ever and still got A/A+ on every speech. Tests are all online and are very easy. Attendance is mandatory but going to class isn't terrible. No need to buy the textbook or take in-class notes (she puts her lectures up online). Long story short take Steineck, your GPA will thank you.
This class was so easy. Professor Steineck puts all lecture slides BB and all tests come straight from them. I got As on all tests and she lets you drop the lowest so I got to skip the last test. Book is a waste of money though, I never opened it.
She's very laid back and understanding. All the tests are pulled straight from the powerpoints. She offers extra credit for perfect attendance although attendance will not affect your grade. She does assign a few in class assignments throughout the semester that can help boost your grade but are not essential if you study for the tests.
She can be a tough grader but the class is still easy to manage. She gives extra credit opportunities and gives points for going to the Speaker's center and to her office hours. I would recommend this class instead of COMM 111. Lectures can be boring but the in class activities can make it interesting.
Boring, and this isn't a class you can just skip cause you think everything is common sense. You have to work for it, but it's not that bad.
Read the slides to you. Theres in-class work for attendance really easy. She's not annoying when she talks and her lectures are easy going and not boring.
I absolutely hate public speaking, but the atmosphere is very relaxing. The four speeches are straight forward. I did most of mine late and still got an A in the class. Her tests are online and they are open book. She also really nice. Her lectures can be boring though. Cell phones and laptops are allowed though so...
They are a true rock star. I have taken 2 classes with them and loved them both. Discussions are amazing. She wants you to talk and she does care. TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!
She is this best professor that I have had my whole time at uofl. You don't need to purchase a book for her class, all you need to do is show up and follow her powerpoint slides. she gives easy extra credit assignments. There's no way you can fail this class unless you don't show up. She has 10 pt assignments every class period so show up!
I have taken her for 201, 305 and 315. For 315 we needed our book for some book work. A lot of extra credit and 10 point in class assignments so go to class. She encourages participation but doesn't force it. Reviews for tests and gives study guides. She wants you to do well!
Probably the easiest oral communications class you can take. Tests are open notes and are taken directly from powerpoints. You don't need to read the textbook. She requires 4 speeches a year. Lectures can be boring but in class activities are entertaining and you can tell she cares about her students and is passionate about her job. Take her.
attendance was not mandatory, but she gives out extra credit at the end of the semester if you miss 0 days. Lectures are fun. there are 3 papers for her class. She also gives out a few in class assignments.
I took her class on Monday nights it was pretty boring since it was a 3 hour class. Attendance is a huge part of your grade she does silly quizzes to make sure you show up. Overall an easy class, but remember to study for the exams. She was a nice and helpful professor.
A great professor. Her lectures can be a bit dry with the powerpoint sometimes but her personal stories are hilarious and she does a great job of making everyone feel comfortable before their speeches. Don't worry about reading the textbook, all the information is in her notes which are online. I highly recommend!
Pretty easy class. Go to the lectures to get the 10 points of in class credit. Study a bit and youll get a B at least.
There are four tests and not much else to be graded on, but definitely a class worth taking. Professor Steineck is a very fun and comical professor, she does her best to make the lectures interesting and also get class feedback and participation.
Prof. Steineck is super nice, and her lectures are really easy to understand. Her grading criteria is clear cut, and she always offers opportunities for extra credit. I definitely recommend her classes.
I loved having her as a teacher I have had her twice. She is easy to listen too and makes some of the classes exciting. She does in class work that helps your grade if you do bad on a test. Drops your lowest test grade. If you study her study guides you'll do great. Post her powerpoint lectures as well.
Understanding. I wasn't happy about having to take speech requirement, and there was a heavy workload (four speeches), but I'm glad I had her instead of someone less approachable. I might be biased because she has a similar personality to my mom.
This is my second class i've had with professor Steineck, and i love her. Her classes are super easy and she even posts study guides for all of her tests. She may even decide to drop your lowest exam score. I highly recommend taking her!!
She is monotone and just reads off the powerpoints the whole class. Each chapter has a reaction paper that is half a page. Attendance is not mandatory but if you attend all the classes she gives 10 extra points toward your overall grade. She drops the lowest of your test scores.
Monotone and reads off powerpoints. Attendance is not mandatory. Drops the lowest of four test scores.
Professor Steineck gave plenty of in-class points so it is important to show up to class, not to mention she takes attendance. I missed zero classes and she gave 10 points for attendance at the end of the semester! This was a fairly easy public speaking class. She offered feedback on your speech outline before it was due and gave extra credit some.
professor steineck is an ok professor, shes pretty monotone and reads off the powerpoints the entire time. attendance is mandatory in this class, though, and i had to miss due to some personal issues that were really serious, she was not at all understanding and threatened to fail me, another girl in my class had similar issues
Professor Steineck is great. She obviously cares about all of her students and knew my whole class by name. She includes participation points, so go to class. The speeches we did we clearly outlined, and she offered lots of resources outside of class. I highly recommend for a comm credit.
This class was pretty okay. Grading criteria was clear and the speeches weren't too painful. Do take advantage of the extra credit opportunities--going to the speaker's center can boost your speech grade 3-5 points. The lectures were a little boring at times, but overall an enjoyable class.
Prof. Steineck's lectures are boring, which is ironic considering the class is over how to be an effective speaker. do NOT buy the textbook- PowerPoints are exactly the chapters. Speeches are okay (speakers center for extra credit is helpful) but two missed classes (which you always want to because they are so boring) and your grade drops a letter.
This professor really cares about her students. She lays out the grading criteria & assignments out in front of you so there are no surprises or misunderstandings. She basically gives you the answers to her quizzes in her lectures & the day before the quiz. As long as you pay attention you should be good. Speech topics are pretty cool & easy too
Mrs. Steineck is a very nice professor. There are 4 tests the whole semester, and about 5 papers. It's a generally easy class, but her tests can be tough. They're multiple choice, but tend to be opinionated which makes it tough because it seems as if there's more than 1 right answer. Would probably take again.
Very caring professor. You can tell she wants you to succeed. 4 test that were easy to study for and the lowest grade is dropped. Weekly discussion board posts as well. Would highly recommend her and this class.
Lectures are pretty boring, but she teaches straight from the textbook. Only need book for some activities, but you can look at a friends book if you don't have one. Tests are easy and lots of in class points available. Super caring and will work with any needs or concerns you have!
Breath of fresh air in the middle of an online learning semester. Classes were in person and she was always nice and cracked jokes. The only negative is that she can be a tough grader but she just wants you to be the best. There were 4 speeches, participation, and a single quiz. Classwork was on Pops Classroom, which you buy before the class starts
Dr. Steineck is a wonderful, caring woman. Her classes are almost entirely reading off of powerpoints, sometimes we'd have class discussion as well. Your grade is much made up entirely of points you get for showing up to class, and your test grades. Tests are SUPER easy if you study. Want an easy COMM 201 grade with a nice professor? She's for you
She is a very good professor and explains the content thoroughly. When I was stuck writing my speeches or hit a writing block, she helped me brainstorm and gave me a lot of tips that made my speeches way better. Take her!
Only one test towards the beginning of the course. Grade is mostly based off speeches, but if you practice and take her feedback you'll end with a good grade.
Honors speech with her was fine. She's super nice and always helpful, but the majority of the class is just listening to her talk about speeches or listening to people give speeches. Just not the most interesting thing in the world. I went over on my time once and did bad on the only written exam, so avoid stuff like that.
Christine isn't accommodating to students, and the lectures are super boring. If you think this class will help you learn how to speak effectively, you're sadly mistaken. HON 214 is a cookie-cutter class. You will only learn how to write speeches in a very specific way. I did not learn anything from this class. 3/10 overall. I advise not taking it.
You cannot skip class; attendance is a part of your grade. Other than that, it's a pretty good class with a nice teacher and one that gives good feedback on speeches. Just make sure you prepare for speeches days in advance.
I did not learn much in the class, but I didnt really expect to in a Public Speaking class I am only taking bc I am required to. Christine gives very good feedback, and gives you many chances to build up your grade, with several participation assignments and chances for extra credit. The lectures can be boring but she is an enjoyable person.
She's a bit disorganized but she doesn't let it detriment her students. She's very forgiving with grades and creates a comfortable environment for public speaking. She lets you pick whatever topic you want for the speeches to make it easier. Super laid back class. Some textbook reading but not much.
Prof. Steineck is super caring. Most classes were made up of PowerPoint lectures and taking notes with occasional group discussions and short activities. The class was pretty easy, the tests were not difficult if you took notes and you get points just for showing up. I definitely recommend this class, (I'm taking her again for another Comms class!)
She's not very good at feedback, or answering questions. She's nice, but overall her class is a big struggle, especially if you're scared of public speaking in the first place. Answer's to questions just aren't helpful, in general the help was just not good.
Focuses more on adhering to a rigid, almost robotic speech template instead of actual speech content. Lectures are strictly based on powerpoints and are pretty dull. Classwork wasn't difficult, just tedious and boring. Entire course just felt like a huge waste of time.
Steineck's class is definitely passable as long you follow her strict grading guidelines outlined in the pops classroom. Class attendance is mandatory. Overall should be an easy A or B as long as you do what she tells you to do.
This was an easy class and an easy OC credit. Lectures and speeches were super easy. However, I had COVID and had to quarantine and she was very rude about me missing the work while I was quarantined, but I made it up very quickly after and it was fine.
She is a good teacher. She relates class topics to her own life/lets students tell their stories. Good amount of papers but they are all short & simple prompts. Go to class because there are assignments that are not on blackboard/syllabus - she'll tell you in class. She takes attendance. Make sure to email her if you are going to miss her class.
Steineck is a great person, but isn't the most tech savvy, which creates a barrier in learning. Lots of people said she graded them really tough, but if you repeatedly practice your speeches and check what you're saying against the rubric on POPS you should be fine. The lowest I ever got on a speech was an 88% and it was the first one.
Prof Steineck is a very good teacher who gives good feedback on all of your assignments. Every once in a while there are writing assignments, but they are not hard. You will never write over 2 pages. Study guides with the entire exam are given too. She is lenient on late work. Lectures are boring, but give good information.
This class was super easy, especially for a communications credit. There were only 15 easy homework assignments and 4 tests which were all online and also very easy. Although the class was relatively boring, I do recommend going and participating because she takes attendance.
She gives good lectures and theirs a lot of time to get assignments done. The main grades in her class are the public speaking assignments. She is a tough grader on those but they are pretty easy speeches to do. If you miss more than 2 classes you get dropped a letter grade.
I had Professor Steineck for public speaking and I enjoyed it. I wish the feedback I got on speeches were more detailed but she sets out days to help with your outlines and offers extra credit if you go to the speaking center. Most classes were people's speeches and you can only miss 2 days before being dropped a letter grade. She is extremely nice
Very chill professor, she does take attendance everyday though.
Makes the environment comfortable and knows nobody wants to do public speaking. Had no tests, only the 4 speeches that every intro speech class has here. Easy to talk to and speech topics were always broad. Made grading criteria very clear.
Super easy class. Just do the few assignments and prep for speeches (four 3-8 min speeches throughout the semester). Prof Steineck is great because she tells you exactly what you need to know in order to do well-- without fluff.
Dr. Steineck is awesome. Lectures are read off a slide, but are also posted online to be used during tests. Test days you don't have class, and she drops the lowest score as long as you take all 4 exams. You also complete usually one paper assignment a class, but they are graded on completion.
She is very nice and her class structure is very concise. Attendance is mandatory because it is a public speaking class, but you do get 2 free days to miss. Sometimes class/speeches would be done early so she would let us go. Overall, would recommend you take this professor.
She was probably a little too lenient with my lack of preparation and tendency to forget to turn in peer reviews, but overall a good professor. Sometimes she was funny.
The class is what you can expect from a public speaking course. The professor is tough on grading, but as long as you follow the criteria, (ex: making eye contact with the audience, not obstructing your visual aid) you should be in good shape. There isn't too much coursework, and the professor creates a respectful environment when you present.
