This class was GREAT! She made it interesting and the information easy to do. Lots of easy points. I am going to get an A in this class.

Very easy class, it's extremely hard to get anything lower than a B. Just come to class and pay attention. She is very enthusiastic, very fun, and communicates the subject very well. I'm taking another one of her classes because I liked her so much.

Very awesome teacher. She keeps your attention and is very empathetic to any problems you may be having. I recomend her hands down.

She helped me decide my major when I had her for Criminology last fall ('03). You have to go to class and try to stay up with the reading and you should do fine. I wish I could have her again but she just teaches intro's and I am done with them :( If you have a choice you should get her.

She is cool and easy going and makes it somewhat interesting. The only thing I don't like is her obviously slanted political views that she allows to infiltrate her lectures.

very very good teacher. one of my favorites at northern. always makes you laugh and has been one of the only teachers to have held my attention the entire hour and 15 minutes.

It was a fun class. We discussed a lot so when it came to the final we barely had anything on it. Did one group project and answered a few online questions. Very Helpful and she wants you to have fun. Recommend this teacher and class

some of the topic are a bit boring, however Janis made classtime very interesting. Tests are easy, off all notes, no need to buy the books. Awesome and realistic teacher, i would suggest to everyone

I had her before so I knew what to expect. Just go to class and pay attention. Seriously, that's all you need. Tests and papers were not hard. It's hard to get a bad grade with her since she is so helpful. If you are looking for a good class and teacher to fill out your schedule, look to her.

She is such a great teacher. She's absolutely hilarious in a slightly inappropriate way, and she's just so enthusiastic about the material she's teaching. She goes off on wild tangents sometimes, but it's fun. There are lots of opportunities for extra credit. If you show up and do the work, an A is not hard to achieve.

She was one of the best teachers I had while I attended NIU, every once in awhile I still send her crazy stories I hear about that she might find interesting. Everyone should take a class with her! :o)

Her tests can be tricky, you must read them more than once because half of her question can be true and the other part false.Her homework assignemts are not hard and she answers any questions on them quickly. She was one of the best professors that I have had while at NIU. Truly an asset to Northern. Take her, you won't regret it.

By far the best teacher at Northern...She is awesome! I would definetely take her again, but she only teaches intro classes. No attendance, but it does help to go. Plus class was always interesting and I actually enjoyed going!

Awesome Teacher

good teacher. totally upfront about what she expects . no curve balls. pretty interesting too. plus she likes to swear in class. (always a bonus)

She is an amazing teacher. She's unbelievably hilarious and down to earth. SHe definitely gives you enough opportunities to get points, as long as you turn it in on time. She is very clear and entertaining.

A great teacher. I really enjoyed being in her class there is work to be done but you get all of the assignments ahead of time so you can get everything out of the way. She also has a great way of explaining the readings by giving real life examples. Take one of her classes and you wont regret it.

She was an amazing teacher and simply requires you to be a responsible college student and you will do just fine the work load is acceptable and the tests require studying as they should but she's very helpful and repeats as many times as needed

Janis was awesome. Very straight forward with everything, I enjoyed this class very much. Just go to class, she will give bonus points just for going, and the lectures are very interesting. Midterm and the Final, mostly multiple choice. 4 easy HW assignments. I recommend Janis for any SOCI class.

Always keeps lectures going with her amazing stories. Overall a great professor but just make sure you turn in your assignments on time because she will not budge and accept any late work at all. gives extra credit! as long as she give multiple choice tests, they are easy but if they are short answer theyre really hard! She is a fare teacher.

Interesting lady!

She has weird stories, and some of her jokes are dumb. I think she once confused something that happened on the Simpsons with her own story. She also had this one test that was ridiculous, like 40 questions all short answer, but said she would never use it again. Still she didn't raise peoples' grades for it, even though the avg was like 50%.

I love her to death! She is funny and goes at a pace you want. I love her "crazy Helen" stories.

She is awesome so far. You definitely have to go to all her classes because her quizes have a lot of lecture notes to them but she is really fair with her grading and makes class fun!

Definitely one of my favorite classes ever. She makes it so fun and interesting and I actually love going to that class. If i could take this class over again I would. I recommend her for everyone!

She is the best teacher a person can have. I had her at 8 in the morning and there was never a dull moment. I would definately advise anyone to take one of her classes!

GREAT TEACHER. This was a great class and she did a really great job of making everything interesting. Class isn't mandatory but if you want an A go. She was very fun and very easy to approach, very helpful too. If you can take her classes.

Awesome, doesn't bore you. Do not need to go to class but it helps. All you have is 2 tests and like 3 papers. Easy if you put any effort into it.

Her class was so much fun! She taught the subject matter with a sense of humor which made the class go by fast. Attendence is not mandatory, but I highly suggest going to class because she sometimes does in class assignments.

Great teacher- she makes the class fun and interesting. There is only a midterm and final for tests, a couple in class assignments, and 3 papers. Tests are fair, but make sure to read the assigned readings, they are about 20% of the tests. Christine is a great lady and fun to listen to! I recommend this class!

Great! She is REALLY funny and it makes the class more fun. Doesn't rely on powerpoint a lot, tells us to take notes by hand which I think is better than powerpoint. Information is easy to understand and her stories are funny and interesting to listen to. Highly recommended to take

This class was very, very easy. She's by far my favorite teacher i've ever had. As long as you do the work and go to class you'll ace the class. Also she's hilarious and actually makes the class interesting and enjoyable to attend. I HIGHLY recommend taking this class with her.

I don't care at all about SOCI and I found this class interesting. She knows that this is an intro class and not all students are SOCI majors and she teaches the class that way. She is great, very helpful, and she is a very fair grader. I would highly recomend her.

I actually enjoy going to her class. She makes her lectures entertaining and relates the terms to real life stories/examples. It's important to take notes in class (and to go to class). It's helpful to read the book as well. Although she gives you the majority of info in class.

Most underrated professor at NIU. took her last semester and she was awesome. makes every class enjoyable,great notes. puts things in a way that you can understand, fair grader and exams are straight from lecture and notes a little bit from the reading. cool person great teacher

She is a really good professor! I took her last semester! TAKE HER! It's a really fun class and if you go everyday you should get nothing lower than a B! She makes class fun although her stories get annoying! You get little work to do and tons of group projects. Easy A!!!!

Easy A! go to class everyday you have her! do the work! you get 4 papers to do and she gives you an outline on what she wants in the papers just follow the outline. We really didn't use the book! so don't buy it even if she says to!!Read the things she post online they will be on the test! FUN teacher!! TAKE HER!!!!

Janis is a great teacher. I learned a lot from the class and it was interesting. The tests and quizes weren't too hard, but do study and read the online readings. I would definitely take another class with her!

Christine was a great teacher, whether or not you are interested in Sociology. She kept the attention of the class with her jokes. Her teaching style does get a bit old, all powerpoints. If you don't come to class, she won't like you. End of story. And don't you dare try to use your cell phone!

Great teacher, very knowledgeable with Sociology. However, she is not an "easy" teacher. Go to class and take notes, you'll do fine. But don't think it's an "easy A" class, because it's not. She is pretty strict and doesn't take BS from anyone. Overall fun and knowledgeable teacher, would take classes with her again.

Best prof I have ever had. She has the best sense of humor and she uses it to her advantage by telling stories to help students learn. She tries to scare her students but she is overall the nicest and most helpful professor.

3 tests, 6 online assignments, online discussions, and some in class work. She doesn't post the notes online, so make sure to go to class. The textbook is basically not needed and the study guides are helpful in preparation for the tests. She makes the lectures very interesting and is an all around great teacher. If you study, you will pass.

I really enjoyed Janis as a professor. I thought her stories were funny, especially about her family. In order to get a good grade you have to go to class and pay attention. If you miss class you will miss opportunities for points. If I tried harder I could have gotten a better grade.

Professor Janis is probably my favorite professor here thus far. She is very respectful to her students and has some great stories and teaching tactics to help students remember the material. If you go to class and listen then you will be just fine.

This teacher clearly cares about her students. I loved her class and would have taken others but they did not work with my schedule. Textbook is not a must have, but is recommended. She gave 2 exams in this class, and a few HW assignments. If you go to class and pay attention you will do GREAT in this class.

really nice teacher. she is strict. no cells phones or lap tops in class or you will get eaten for breakfast. if you pay attention, take notes, and do everything assigned then you should get an A. i would take her class again no doubt.

This was an enjoyable class! She is really funny, tells awesome stories, and sometimes lets us out early. However, unless you go and introduce yourself, she will not know your name. The class was clear and cut - GO TO CLASS, do the paper EARLY, STUDY the power points, and READ the articles and textbook. Do these things and you will pass.
