GREAT teacher. I learned a lot in this class and if you can get by her saying "'kay?" after every sentence, you'll do just fine.
good teacher yet voice is very annoying. so sit in the back and it wont be that bad. makes the class not that bad!
she might give you a headache with her voice, she just gets really excited. but take her class, it is a good one to take.
Very nice teacher. She is the kind of teacher I would like to be someday. She is very helpful if you are having trouble.
EASY EASY EASY class. If you have any logical common sense it will be a breaze. Especially with Tinsley teaching. Shes loud, excited about math, and will ALWAYS help you.

Easy class, hot teacher, annoying voice, and very helpful. What else can I say?
Easy class. I would say she sounds like Joan Cusack. Good math teacher though, she actually teaches you, doesnt make you learn from the book.
She was not very helpful when I tried to understand the homework better. She was very unclear on a lot of information.
She is a really good teacher and is helpful, but her voice can get annoying! she is very nice though. weekly quizzes and 4 tests, and homework is due after each test.
great teacher really helps her students understand. reminds you of highschool math all over again!
Very cheery person. Always willing to help. Provides excellent examples. Quizzes are taken from homework problems. Prepares you well for the test. Some students make fun of her voice, but I think she sounded fine. One of the nicest, most helpful professors in the OU Math Department.
A pretty good teacher. The material in the class is very elementary. She takes attendence every class period so you can only miss 4 classes. Some people thing she has a very annoying voice. Overall very helpful. Doesn't throw any information you don't know on the tests. Class grade is made up of 4 tests, 1 project, homework, 3 quizzes, and final
Nice teacher! VERY helpful! 3 tests, 5 quizzes, helpful homework, but not too much of it. Voice can get annoying though... Would recommend!
Great teacher, best one I have ever had.
Said I had one grade, yet I ended up with a lower one, but she is very helpful.
Great teacher! Super nice and helpful. If I would ever be a teacher she is who I would be like. Ticks me off when people make fun of her voice. She can't help the voice God gave her. I'd recommend this class to anyone.
She is a hotty!!! And a nice lady. But sometimes I get distracted with her hotness and stop paying attention. Good teacher. Helps explain concepts and material to the fullest.
Hands down best math class I have ever taken. She gets straight to the point and shows you how to do the math! The homework is pretty easy and so are the exams. If you go to class and do the homework it is an easy A.
She is really nice and helpful. The work is really easy, even for people who struggle with math. If you just come to class and do the homework (which you get quite a while to do and it isn't very much), then you will do well in the course. The tests and grading are fair. She gives a lot of extra help to those who need it. Really pretty too!
I hated this class and failed every test but if you're good at math then this class you might enjoy.
Doesn't teach clearly, speeds through lessons, only teaches to front row. Not a good teacher, but a nice lady.
Mrs. Tinsley is an AMAZING teacher, I would definitely take another math course just to have her. If you aren't a huge math nerd like me though I could possibly see you hating this class (haha sorry). But as long as you go to class, do your homework, and STUDY, it's an easy A class. oh and ps, make sure you sit in the first few so you can hear!!
Ms. Tinsley is the best! She's easy to understand and a great teacher.
if you don't get her... you won't pass. Take for sure
This was an easy class if you are good at Math. Makes sure you understand derivatives for the 3rd test. First two tests are super easy.
Professor Tinsley is a good professor who takes her time explaining the material. She is very willing to answer questions, and even though the class is large, it doesn't seem that way. She also does a good job of preparing students for what will be on the test. It is definitely important to do the homework to be prepared.
Professor Tinsley is wonderful! She is very fair when it comes to quizzes. She let's you know ahead of time when there will be a quiz and the questions are very similar to the homework problems. Overall, Tinsley is there for you when you need help. Strongly recommend taking Business Calc I with her because she is the best instructor for it!
She is a great teacher! She explains the concepts really well and clearly and really made calculus easy for me! Her quizzes are very similar to the homework she assigns which are not for a grade, so do your homework and you'll do fine on the quizzes.
She is a very nice woman who provides great lectures. Because of her involvement with the math-center she is very helpful outside of class too. The test are relatively hard and she is a very tough grader. A very beautiful woman she is easier to look at then the calculus itself. Her good looks keep me going to class. Would reccommend
Tinsley is definitely a favorite for me. I've never had a more straightforward professor, which I loved about her. Additionally, she always stayed after class and answered questions and her teaching was great. Definitely take her.
Great professor! I would take her again if I could. The material isn't always easy, but she gives good notes and is willing to help. She reviews before every tests and gives you practice problems for them. One of my favorite math teachers I have ever had.
Tinsley is awesome! She really shows you how to work out the problems and is a lot of help! She doesn't require you to do homework, but if you want an A you must do the homework.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the class. She doesn't require that you do the homework, but if you don't complete it, the tests and quizzes will be a challenge.
Great lady, speeds through the lessons though. Doesn't really teach material.
I find this class to be very easy, but I know some people have struggled with it. If you don't skip class, do the homework, and go to the math center it should be a piece of cake. I would definently take a class taught by Tinsley again. She's very clear in her lectures, and she seems to care about her students.
I have already taken Calculus, but the way that she lectures makes everything harder for no reason. I had to teach students in the class other methods of doing certain problems so that they could understand. She contradicts herself a lot and does not emphasize important concepts. Basically, she makes the class more difficult than what it has to be.
This class consists of 8 quizzes(3 lowest grades are dropped) and 4 exams including a cumulative final. Professor Tinsley did a good job of explaining the lessons and posted note outlines online. Attendance is neccesary in this course as the book doesn't teach most concepts the way she does. The homework isn't graded but quiz questions come from it
Mrs. Tinsley was a wonderful Business Calculus professor! Her teaching was easy to comprehend because she walked us through multiple examples each class period and often let us out early from class, so you don't get bogged down with too much info. Homework is not required but highly recommended and there are 8 quizzes with the 3 lowest dropped.
Absolute terrible teacher. My least favorite professor I have had. Doesnt even cover all of material on tests. Her teaching methods are awful. Literally got a tutor because of her, had to learn everything from the tutor or on my own.
Worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't teach the material that's on the tests and quizzes. Which sucks considering your grade is made up of 4 tests and 10 quizzes. She takes off points for EVERYTHING. It's impossible to make an "A" in this class. I'm good at math and I enjoy it, but she made this class a living hell. Do not take this class.
Professor Tinsley was a nice lady who taught the material very well. However, mistakes were met with a disproportionate number of points taken off. Ex: forgetting to put per year after the percent sign got you 3-4 points off, even if the problem is worth 8 points. I made an A in bus precalc and barely made an B. Final was worth twice a test.
The class (business calc 1) is ridiculously easy. Im on my phone almost every day in class and still have a high A. Professor Tinsley takes the lectures very slow and doesnt give you much of a chance to practice on your own, so its important to do the homework outside of class.
The rudest professor ever. She doesn't care about her students or how you do in the class. I am telling you: if you are content with your life currently, don't take her because she will make you want to never see the light of day again.
She will grade your test like it is an English test. If you misspell one thing or forget to put one word, that is already 3 points off. For example, I got every question right on a test but ended up with a 73 because she took off so many points for grammar. Yet she will tell you in class that she tries to give you as many points as possible, LIES!
Professor Tinsley was a great professor. She doesn't take homework for a grade, but she does require 11 notecards, that are randomly asked for throughout the week. My learning style did not click with hers, but she is still a great professor. She is easy to talk to and great when you need help, but she won't just give you the answer--work for it.
Worst professor I ever had.
She just teaches the first few row of the class. Worst professor I've had at OU. On the exams, I literally got all questions correct, but she took my points off just for the few grammatical errors like 3 points just for a word like for example decreased instead of decreasing. Also, not so caring professor.
I just have no words to say.
Class is very fair, she just grades EXTREMELY hard. I literally got points taken off for grammar on a math test. Would not recommend
Tinsley was amazing! I had her for Calc 1 and she was very kind and helpful!
She was a great teacher who really helped me learn the material well! I recommend taking the class, but you do have to put the effort in. She gives a lot of quizzes but drops a few of them.
Mrs. Tinsley gives great notes and is pretty good at explaining concepts. If there is something you dont understand, however, she is very helpful outside of class. If you study and keep up with your homework, this class is not very difficult. She is a very nice teacher. Would take this class again. There are quizzes frequently so I wouldnt miss.
Professor Tinsley gave great notes and worked to help her student succeed. She was accessible outside of class and was very specific about requirements. If you pay attention in class you will be aware of quiz dates, test requirements, and how to succeed.
Ok so you want to know about professor Tinsley, She is loud, goes too fast, doesn't go over material efficiently. Doesn't help students. Grades hard, and takes points off for stupid things.
Tinsley seems like a nice woman, but she goes too fast, doesn't answer questions well, and expects perfection. Little to no partial credit is ever given. I once received a 77 on a test and didn't miss an actual math problem, just labeling and spelling. If there are other teachers available I would take them. The class is no impossible though.
I honestly would not recommend this professor. I have taken her twice and have not changed my mind about it. She goes too fast, seems like she doesn't like to answer questions. I didn't really learn anything. she would just go through problems but wouldn't teach.
Professor Tinsley was fine. My biggest peeve with the course was that she would often make mistakes in our notes and students would correct her. Yet on the tests, she is a very STRICT grader. You also do not get to see what you missed. She has quizzes almost every class which you have to show up to take. So if you miss a class or two, sol.
Professor Tinsley speaks way too loud, goes too fast on notes, and is one of the least understanding teachers I have had. I feel that if I had a good professor teach MATH 1743, then I wouldn't have had to rely on teaching myself everything. A professor should help you, not make the class more difficult, which is what she did.
This is probably my first time ever disliking a teacher/professor. She goes too fast and when someone calls her out during zoom class, she creates any excuse she can. Shes also really loud and can affect what shes saying making it more difficult to understand. Its not too late to change professors. DO IT NOW.
Professor TInsley is the last professor in the math department you want. She hardly explains anything, rushes through lessons, and does not stop for students. On one of our quizzes, the class average was 21% and she just shoveled more material at us. If you are not a born math wizard that already understands all of calculus-STAY AWAY!!
Tinsley has been the worst professor Ive ever had. She grades incredibly harshly while all the time making mistakes that have to be corrected by students in class. She goes way to fast and doesnt even explain what we are doing before jumping straight into a topic expecting us to catch on as she goes. Terrible teaching style, learned nothing.
Tinsley is literally the Lightning McQueen of explaining of explaining calculus, she leaves me in the dust. Literally got Katchowed by the class.
I had this class online so I will say she seems like a good teacher who knows what she's doing but that made it harder. The only grades we got were exams and quizzes so if you don't do well on those you might as well give up. The only real issue I had is when exam questions weren't something we covered prior. She expects a lot but can be helpful.
Professor Tinsley is the most frustrating professor ever. She constantly needs to be corrected on her work in lectures by students and does not go over work well. She grades outrageously hard and will take 10% off a quiz for spelling errors or ticky tacky stuff. I find math and this class easy, she however is not caring or a good teacher. DROP.
dont take her. she goes way too fast and her voice is so annoying and high pitched. ive literally never done bad in a math class before until now. if u have to take math just wait until you get a different professor for real
She cares more about stupid grading your grammar than if you get the stupid question right. Worst teacher here!
Hardest class I've ever taken.
She is a master of calculus and teaches clearly and easily. I hate math and got a B in her class by just following along. Her notes are outlined and if you miss class theyre on canvas. She doesnt have syllabus day lol she gets right into material on day one. This class was minimal workload and she drops three lowest quizzes.
Quite possibly one of the most incompetent professors I have taken. Only lectures and is constantly corrected during lectures. Exams and quizzes only. Gives exam review and the answer key is often full of mistakes and style switches frequently. Will take off points for grammar in a math class. One of the toughest graders I have had. Do not take.
I came as a 4.0 high school student including had already gotten an A in a different college math class and this class was impossible. She only gives exams/quizzes and it is outrageously hard. I was in tutoring and still had to drop the class due to not passing. She is rude and goes so fast and does not create joy in the class. Hardest class ever
By far the worst professor I had all semester. She speeds through lectures and doesn't explain problems. She did not prepare me for a single test and I practically taught myself everything. She also did not give our class a review for our final so we did get any refreshers of the material. She was nice though.
If you can take it with someone else you should, with maximum effort having an A is still somewhat unattainable. the consistency in difficulty varies between exams so its hard to prepare. Final grade is made up from quizzes and exams alone, so there is little room for error, and this professors teaching style is just not compatible with math.
Her teaching style is just not compatible for math. I think she is a nice person but she goes so fast and always gets things wrong. It's a lecture hall class with 200+ people and it's hard for her to answer questions. I had a 4.2 in high school and I would never imagine having to drop a class or fail one. But look at where I am.
Although she was very nice the class was extremely hard. I even got a tutor and still was only able to get a C in the class. The only grades are exams and quizzes so there is no extra assignments to help your grade. The last 2 class periods before the final we got out 30-45 mins early of class and did not do any review in preparation for the final
Professor Tinsley is incredible at what she does. She goes over everything you need to know in lecture- just make sure you print out the notes she gives you. Highly reccomend.
Professor goes through notes thoroughly and doesn't move too fast. If you miss a lecture, the filled-in notes are on canvas and professor is available to answer questions in a timely manner. Exams questions are very similar to problems from the notes, so it is easy to study and prepare. Out of 10 quizzes, the lowest 4 grades were dropped.
A short story to describe Christine Tinsley "Welcome to the Math Center, who is your Calculus Professor? "Tinsley" I replied. "I am so sorry, I'm assuming you need a lot of help today?"
Professor Tinsley was a great professor. She does move pretty fast but the examples in class are pretty similar to the test. For quizzes, I studied my notes instead of the homework and got an A on all but 2, which were dropped. Beware, however, she is a tough grader but she does give clear expectations of what she wants to see on the tests.
Great professor, very good at explaining what she is teaching. Drops three of the eight quizzes throughout the semester. Final was absolutely horrible, the review key was wrong and the final did not have any of the questions from the review.
Tinsley is a good teacher, but you are only graded by 10 quizzes (3 are dropped) and 3 tests and a final. This class I had an A in up until the final which was super hard, but that's a department issue. If you go to class every day and go to tutoring you should end up with an A or B, you just need to study a lot for this class.
I took professor Tinsley for 1743 and she moves through the topics very quickly. The only grades in this course are quizzes and tests, so it is hard to make an A. Most of her tests are fair and reasonable except for the final exam.
Tinsley is nice but Math is just hard. I probably could've studied more, but Math has always been a struggle for me. Theres a bunch of quizzes in class, but she'll tell you the class before, so it's not a surprise. Besides quizzes theres not much thats part of your grade besides exams. Exams can drop you one of more letter-grades, so just study.
She was kind of hard to reach outside of class and didn't have any TA's to assist. She was not my personal favorite for a math teacher, but she would have been a fine teacher for a subject I felt familiar on my own for
I personally loved Tinsley. I was weary going in because of some of the reviews on here but it really just depends on how much you put into the course. If you do your homework outside of class and review problems you should be ok. If you ever have questions about problems too, she has frequent office hours and is very helpful.
Pretty chill professor. Accessible outside of class. If you're not good at math it will be hard to follow. She moves through topics very quickly but answers questions. You have to do the homework and practice problems outside of class to really understand what's going on.
Your grade is entirely quizzes and tests. This wouldn't normally be a problem for me except for the fact that she has a TON of tiny rules you have to follow or she will take points off. She will shamelessly defend her grading choices even when you're obviously right. She also lost one of my exams somehow. She does a bad job of explaining concepts.
Grading can be arbitrary, so pay attention during lecture to figure out what she's looking for. She wants shown work to be near identical to her own. Once you figure that out, the class isn't too bad. Just be willing to practice outside of class and engage in lectures because details are crucial. Exam reviews were very indicative of tests.
Stay away! Expects everyone to be good at math. When you struggle and and ask for help or guidance all she does is tell you to do your homework. I do my homework. How about you do your job and help those who struggle understand better?
She grades terribly, which will cost you your whole grade. The math is hard, but not impossible, but the reason I do not like this prof is because even though I would get the math right I WOULD GET A BAD GRADE cause I couldn't explain my math the way she wanted in english?? this isnt a writing class. go take this class at occc.
This was not an easy class. Tests and quizzes are the only things graded, and Tinsley is a tough grader. Attendance is not mandatory but you must go to class to get notes. You can be successful in this class. But it requires a lot of dedication and diligence.
You have to go to class and study, skip class and this will be hard for you.
Professor Tinsley herself was not bad. The grading of the course was bad; terrible in fact. Exams were extremely weighted. You need to study a lot, show up to class to get the notes and do the ungraded homework to pass with an A.
This class was a disaster, the math itself isn't difficult, but she makes you do it in the most inefficient way possible. Not to mention the homework isn't graded and there are only answers for about half of them in the textbook. The exams are extremely weighted, if you do badly on one of them, good luck for the rest of the year.
Avoid this professor at all costs. She was extremely rude and unhelpful when I went to her office hours for help. She speeds through the lectures so fast that she often makes mistakes herself. The exams are 85% of your overall grade in the class. Go take this course outside of the university.
Will not learn anything from her
She may be a good Calc professor, but some people just can't teach low-level math and she's one of them. Attendance and lectures are mandatory. You learn little to nothing in the lectures. She sounds like Phyliss from the office but much worse. Bring earplugs. If you want to learn don't take this class.
Professor Tinsley is good at explaining calculus 1 concepts, but she can be a harsh grader. The class is graded by quizzes and 4 exams, homework is optional. She is a nice person but don't expect extra credit opportunities.
Professor Tinsley is a great teacher. She explains concepts well and is willing to help. Fill-in-the-blank notes are available on Canvas; homework is in the textbook but not graded. There are quizzes almost every week, but the lowest 3 are dropped.
Do not take this class at all costs. Tests comprise 60% of your grade, and the final is worth 25%. Homework isn't graded, and the other 15% is from quizzes. You have no room for mistakes in this class and absolutely no extra credit. If you are looking to learn, take this course literally anywhere else.
She is not a great professor and often is not helpful when asking questions. Do not miss a lecture you will be lost and confused. Homework is not graded and there is not a lot of room for improvement if you do not do well.
she is the worst, no homework grades ONLY quizzes and test and they are pretty hard and short, and she is a tough grader so its hard to do well even when u understand the material. And u MUST go to class she doesn't post notes or anything, she also doesn't even rlly know the material she is teaching half of the time
Professor Tinsley's class is challenging, but staying engaged and using tools like unstuck ai can help. The grading is tough, so be prepared to put in the work. Overall, it's a demanding but rewarding course if you're willing to commit the time and effort.
This class was a struggle and just ok. Math isn't my strong suit and this class doesn't help with that. The homework isn't for a grade, but if you don't do it, you will struggle on the quizzes. Lectures were ok, as if you asked questions, you would get more detailed explanations, so don't be afraid to ask or hang after class if you are unsure.
Tinsley is a nice teacher overall; at the beginning, she went pretty in-depth with the material, but throughout the semester, she started rushing on some of the material.
Only exams and weekly quizzes, no homework. Rushes through lectures and everyone gets lost easily.
She is a great professor, but she rushes through material and gives no extra credit or curves. Test and quiz based only which is the only reason I will have a C which is very annoying since I do understand the material.
One of the best professors I have had. She explains things clearly, keeps the class organized, and truly cares about students. Office hours are what got me an A, she is patient and helpful. Do the homework even if it is not graded, it really helps. Take her class if you get the chance.
She can't figure out how to get the right brightness on her projector at all, so half the time, you can't see what the notes are about or see what she's typing in the calculator. Even when the projector is visible, she goes super fast in notes and often makes mistakes, but instead of taking the time to correct the mistakes she just moves on. HORID
I would never take this course again. Math is not my strong suit but I am always great about getting help when needed. She rushes through lectures, is unhelpful if you go to office hours, and makes frequent mistakes on notes. I go to the math center at least 3 times a week to get help and barely passed with a B. Would not recommend!!
