She really explanes things well. Her tests are a bit hard but she is a great teacher. The best math teacher I have ever had and she is totally willing to work with you!!! :)
I took this class online. The one time I emailed her with a direct math question she said to ask someone else. Overall, she didn't really do anything.
She let me add my math class two weeks into summer semester. I had to catch up on my own but she let me choose when I wanted to take the test I missed. If it weren't for her willingness to let me add to her class I wouldn't have graduated on time! Thanks!
She is a wonderful math teacher. She is very helpful and she tells you what will be on the tests. She is great!
She is a wonderful teacher who cares about the success of each of her students. She expects hard work. I would recommend her to anyone!
I thought she was an excellent teacher. Math is a hard subject no matter who teaches it, but I would TOTALLY recommend her to anyone needing to take math 1050. She stayed late after class everyday to answer students questions and she's totally fair.
Great Teacher
christine is such a good teacher. she explains everything in such a manner that you understand it. She is more than willing to help you when you need it. This class is a hard class period, but I would much rather take it from a teacher who takes the time to help you. You rock Mrs. Walker!!!!!!!!!!
The class was hard but Ms. Walker really takes the time to help you. She'd do anything to help you get a good grade.
Christine is so good at explaining things in a clear way. This is the first math class that actually makes sense! Thanks Christine! I would recommend your class to anyone!
I came in to this math class with the idea I was going to hate the class but when I took the class from her she made it easy to understand almost fun. she had a contagious happiness about her that that made learning math easy she is a great teacher if you want to learn. she gives great test notes
I took 1050 online from her and she ignored us. I called her and she would never call back. She took a month to update the site. She did not seem to care about us much. She'd never clarify her grading and didn't do a good job either. I'm not taking anymore math because of her. Not from UVSC anyway.
She's an awesome teacher
I also took Math 1050 online from her. Unlike the other entry, Prof. Walker was incredibly helpful. If I sent an e-mail, she responded within 24 hours. Anytime I left a message for her on campus. she always called me back. I got an "A" in her class, and as long as you don't put off the computer work, you'll do fine.
Whoever didnt like Christine is retarded. She was very good and very helpful. I liked going to class and was glad to finally be succeeding in math. I dont know about online, but math is a class that should be taken in a classroom, IMHO.
SHE IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!! Very nice, very helpful, funny. I would recommend her to anyone!!!
Very easy class online. She doesn't actually teach it, but she's the "instructor" and is very helpful with whatever we need from her. We are taught from the computer software for the class, so this isn't so much a rating about her as it is a promotion for her math 1050 online class. I failed normal math 1050 last semester and I'm doing great now.
Wow! Impressive teacher and so helpful. I learned so much in this class. She clearly wants her students to understand math. Many of us in the class had either failed Math 1050 before or dropped it due to the professor we had. Thank goodness UVSC has Ms. Walker!
Christine was always ready to help and will try her hardest to help you succeed. She really enjoys what she's doing and it shows. I think the people that said she wasn't helpful must not even have asked. Test were great, taken straight from the practice problems in the book. I hated math, now I kind of enjoy it. Awesome class!
Christine was awesome, I failed this class when I took it from another because I had no clue what was going on but when I took it from Christine I understood every section...It felt great! She is more than willing to help with any aspect of the course! I would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat.
She was very nice and very clear. I always had a hard time understanding math but she made it so simple and I was able to understand a lot! Then I took another class with a different teacher. I was totally lost! Chrstine is the best!
Take Math 1050 from Prof. Walker she is great. The class will be difficult, but Christine prepares you well for tests. There was a few times when we had to rush through sections, but she always pushed back test dates to help the students out. Take her class!!
Very good teacher. Very clear and explains everything that is going to be on the test. Would reccomend to anyone. Tests are hard but she prepares you well.
She is a good teacher but only uses easy examples in class and then has the hardest questions in the homework and tests. Doesn't grade very evenly.
I took this class from her in the summer and got an A-. I did all the homework the night before the test and aced all of them. The summer class block was short so she moved through the material quickly but if you take good notes and do the homework you'll be fine.
The test(s) are very hard and she doesn't grade them with many points. I have a 3.7 GPA and got a C out of this class. The homework is easy... But the test(s) are VERY HARD and worth 80% of your grade. The final is the entire text and worth 20% of grade. I would find another teacher for math if you want a good grade and easy exams.
Excellent Teacher! I wasn't looking forward to taking this class because I heard that UVSC doesn't have alot of good teachers for math 1050. But i loved the class. It is easy if you keep caught up.
Excellent teacher, she explains math concepts in a way I was finally able to understand them.
She is amazing! Definitly take math from here she is very animated and actually makess math fun. I know that sounds wierd but its true. I highly recomend here. Her test aren't easy but she explains things so well it makes it easy. She is by far the best professor I have ever had.
Everyone I have talked to has taken math 1050 about 3 times they by far say she is the best teacher.I passed her class the first time...and math is my hardest subject. You still need to do the work but she helps you so much on the exams.
Awesome Teacher. I learned a lot from her, and failed the class once but was able to pass with a high grade in her class. Awesome teacher.
She made this class way harder than it should be. she is confusing and has dumb little assignments called CFU's. she is way too peppy and practically yells in class. There was no way to plan ahead for her tests because she got so off of schedule and her tests are very difficult and make up sixty percent of your grade.
UVSC is lucky to have Christine as a math teacher. She always uses real-life examples when teaching a new concept. She is very clear on what will be expected on tests. Yeah, this is a tough class, but she will do all she can to help you.
I did her hybrid class. You learn the lessons on line but then in class she goes over everything that is on the exam for that chapter and gives you problems just like the exam. You take a quiz everytime you go but she always let us work in groups. I would not have passed this class if she wasn't my teacher.
ONLINE MATH 1050. She's not very communicative. It seemed to annoy her when I tried to ask questions, but her online class is by far the best way to take college algebra so it doesn't really matter.
This is the number one dropped and failed class of all the school. I had to pay a tutor to get through this course. She told us at the first of the class to write down any fleeting thoughts we had during tests we clearly had different definitions on ?fleeting thoughts?. She marked the problems wrong that had my fleeting thoughts.
Come on people its Math 1050, no matter who the professor is, you are more than likely going to have to spend hours upon hours in the math lab for help. In the time she had to teach us concepts, Christine did a great job. She can't cover every problem in the homework during a class period. It's a tough class. Best advice- PRIVATE TUTOR IN MATH LAB!
I didn't communicate with the teacher at all during the online course. There was very little homework required and the tests were fairly straightforward and taken directly from the homework assigned.
She is a fantastic teacher!
She was a very good teacher. She moved fast so you had to keep up. She reviewed in class for the tests however, the tests were difficult so practice the hardest problems.
She's amazing. I'm awful at math, but she explains things so clearly and makes it so much easier to learn! She tells you exactly what will be on the test, breaking down every question. Her homework is pretty easy. She drops 4 homework assignments and one test. She's extremely willing to help and so nice!
THE BEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She goes over and out to make sure you understand everything and she makes is so much fun to learn. If you have a question, even if it's something way off topic of her lecture, she will answer it until you say "I get it." Every person on the planet who needs to take Math 1050 from her!
I liked the online program. It taught me a lot. Her tests were tough. And unfortunately the grade is mainly off the tests. The final had so much on it . Study everything!!! She gave extra points for the homework on top of our score for the tests which were nice.
Christine was a great math teacher especially for people who have a hard time with math. She really helps you out.
This "hybrid" class was completely awful! The teacher didn't explain things well and it was extremely hard to learn the formulas. She never answered questions clearly in class and always bounced from problem to problem without finishing.Doing a hybrid course, you can't ask questions while doing homework because the professor is just on a video.
Forget the negative ratings below, I guess some people just aren't wired for Math. I took Dr. Walker's 1050 online class, and I loved it. VERY RESPONSIVE, every time I emailed her she responded within 24 hrs. The online class is all via Thinkwell, which I REALLY enjoyed. BEST PART, she gives VERY SPECIFIC study guides for all exams, final included!
Horrible. Trying to get any sort of feedback from her was like pulling teeth. I missed out on points because 3 emails i sent a week before a due date went unanswered until 2 days after it was due. Also extremely unhelpful when people had serious questions on the class forum, her best answer was that she'd look into it.... Online class.
Wonderful teacher. Best I've had at UVU. She teaches things from the basics up. She is willing to spend time to help you understand it. I recommend her for anyone. I took the hybrid course. There is a fair amount of homework due twice a week, quizzes each class, and five exams.
Prof. Walker was amazing! She really wants her students to succeed. If you do the study guide you will do great on all of the tests and she will help you with the quizzes if you don't understand. Only complaint was the long homework. Overall though I would definitely recommend her for math!!!
In my class she would teach us the material after we had already done the homework. That bothered me, because I can't learn from a computer when it comes to math. She relies a lot on MyMathLab. However, she was very helpful if you are willing to ask questions. It is a hard subject, but she was better than other math teachers I've had at UVU.
Easy class. I took the Hybrid class which required learning on your own for the most part. She did a great job of teaching the concepts and lets you know exactly what questions will be on each exam.
Christine did the best that she could with the little time she had to teach in the hybrid program. I did not do well in this class but it wasn't her fault. The hybrid program doesn't really allow enough time to learn the concepts. So if you have a hard time with math I wouldn't suggest trying the hybrid program.
Hybrid classes are hard, but she makes it easy to understand the information. If you stay current on Mymathlab and work hard you can get an A. Her tests are pretty straightforward and she will tell you exactly what to study. Math is not my subject, but I did well in her class.
Great Teacher! She is really helpful and truly cares for the success of her students!!
She was so helpful, and she really cared about us knowing and succeeding in her class. I took her hybrid sla class and it was awesome! She made sure that we all knew what was happening and how we were doin with it.
Dr. Walker is AWESOME! She is VERY helpful and answers each student clearly. If she makes a mistake, she admits it. She takes her questions straight from the textbook and tells you which questions she will use before the test. I would recommend her to anyone!
Nice person, but not the best teacher. Her reviews did not prepare us for the tests, so people did poorly on tests because of it. We had to teach ourselves a lot of the material, because her lectures are very confusing. Changes her mind a lot then doesn't tell us about the changes until it's too late.
She's nice but not very helpful. Her test reviews didn't help at ALL. Felt like she totally changed the exam from the test reviews. The only test that was consistent with the reviews was exam 4.
DO NOT take the hybrid class!! I usually do just fine with math but the hybrid class was awful! I spent so much time studying there is just was too much info and not enough time to learn it. If it had been a normal class I feel like I would have done very well. Take from her just do not do the hybrid!! You have been warned!
Best math teacher ever!!! I loved this class and she really helped me understand everything. She wasn't one of those tricky teachers that screw you with the final, and her homework load is very reasonable. She also reviews for every test and is open to help after class.
She is horrible, doesn't respond to questions and her test are super hard. She says they are multiple choice but there are only 3 multiple choice and the rest are right out. I usually do well with math but did not do well in this class. Take from someone else if you can.
She is a great professor! Goes through the material clearly and does tons of example and homework problems. She want all her student to do well and help in every way she can. She reviews for all the test and gives a review for the test that are exactly like the test except for different numbers. grades fair and will stay after class to help you.
She is awesome I took the hybrid class and its nice to have my math lab to help fill in the blanks. She does great exam reviews and teaches very clearly. Homework is through mymathlab. Go to the math lab often ask her questions and do all of the exam reviews and you will do well in this class professor walker is awesome.
Great professor! She gives exact examples of what you need to study for tests. She answers questions very clearly. I would recommend her to anyone.
She is a good teacher, but you better get every question exactly right on the tests or you won't pass. She grades extremely hard and doesn't curve.
This class wasn't even taught by Prof. Walker. She had us watch a bunch of videos made by someone else. If you have an interesting sense of humor you'll enjoy the videos, as the guy is very weird. I learned a lot, but not from Prof. Walker. That being said, the class was easy, but a lot of busy work. Follow the exam reviews and you'll be fine.
Online math class. Quite a bit of homework, but it isn't due until the end of the semester if you get behind. Didn't have much interaction with the professor because it is all done with Thinkwell. Pretty much stay caught up and work a little and you can get a good grade easy enough.
This class was supposed to help me prepare to be a Math teacher. I found it to be almost worthless, there was a lot of busy work. Each week we had a quiz that was basically a brain teaser. If it was not required and there were other options I would suggest that you take it from someone else.
Horrible teacher! I have been taking her math online class & was really confident because I've ALWAYS done well in math, despite hating the subject. I've emailed her many times asking for her help on several problems I've had with the program she uses, as well as the math problems themselves. She delegates everything and doesn't help you @ ALL!!!
This was my second time taking 1050 and she was so much better than the last teacher. She is very clear and to the point. I took the hybrid class from her and I wouldn't recommend any other way. The hybrid portion was just the homework. The videos where just extra help if you need it, but she teaches everything very well in class. TAKE IT FROM HER!
Christine was hands down the best teacher. This was my second time taking 1050 and compared to the other teacher she was amazing. It is math so you have to be perfect in your work, but she grades fairly. She is very understanding. The hybrid class was very helpful. Christine taught in class and the homework was online.
Horrible Teacher!! I have always done well in Math until this year, she didn't help one bit. If you don't go to class you will be completely lost and not pass. Her test are extremely difficult and doesn't teach you what you need to know. Doesn't believe in a curve. I would not recommend her!
WOW!! This professor was incredible. I have been 'alright' with math my whole life, but Dr. Walker was hands down the BEST teacher I have had. She is so kind, has a natural gift for teaching, and she is fair on homework and tests. It is math, so expect to work hard... But I wouldn't suggest any other teacher! SO GREAT!!!!!
15% homework, 60% exams, 25% final exam. It's 1050 it will not be easy, she gives reviews but there are no example problems. Decent professor I am sure there are better ones.
She has been one of my best math teachers. Explains the concepts clearly. Is great at using simple concepts used learned in Elementary and middle school to explain the more difficult ones of the course. Is very understanding an really wants you to succeed. Grades harshly on tests sometimes. Go to class, and you'll be set. Take her please!
Excellent professor. She has lots of energy which made class at 8 am better. She was very easy to understand and she was always willing to give you feedback or help you during office hours or after class. Definitely would recommend to others.
Took the online class, if you are pretty good at math this is a great option. Essentially work at your own pace with two major deadlines for midterm/finals. Didn't interact with her much but she was polite and responsive through emails. He tests followed right along with the program (thinkwell) which was also great for review and homework.
Christine was always in a good mood and positive and excited to teach. I loved how clearly she taught the material. She would answer any questions about the homework at the beginning of the next class. Exam reviews were spot on. Homework was light but on point. Answered emails quickly. Really loves Math and it is contagious. Great, great teacher.
If you're taking math 1050 take it from Christine Walker. She's awesome! You have a homework almost every night but it helps. She lets you know exactly what's going to be on the test. The final was so great, she didn't pick hard problems and she gave an awesome review. I got an A. She also drops one test score and uses an average. She was best!!
Excellent teacher. I have always struggled with math (like many) and she has been my best teacher yet. She prepares you very well for the tests and gives you an almost perfect look at the exam before it. She will also tell you exactly what problems you should do, and if you know how to do them then you will be good for the test. Highly recommend.
Dr. Walker is pretty awesome. She has a passion for the class and is an excellent teacher. She is ready to help anyone who needs extra help. She is always current on grading. Love that she replaces the lowest test grade with the average of the highest three. I would definitely recommend her to everyone.
If you take this class be prepared for a lot of homework and to work for your grade. If you don't fully participate and do the homework you could fail the tests and the class.
Took this class online, and it was probably the best math class I've ever taken. She's helpful when needed, and the program with my math lab is awesome. I never watched the videos, I could figure it out just from my math lab examples. There is a group project, which is ridiculous for a math class let alone an online one. Good class mostly.
I really enjoyed professor Walker! She really cares about her students and did a lot to make sure we understood her expectations and the material. Sometimes she was kind of a tough grader, but for the most part she was fair! Be prepared for a bit of homework, but honestly if you put in the work, you'll be fine! She always had a great attitude also!
This was an online class and I took it for the 1st block of summer semester. Although it was crazy, she was always encouraging us to do our best and to not give up. I feel that the enthusiasm she shared helped me through the course! There are 4 Exams and a final. She averages your 3 higher scores and replaces that with your lowest! Super awesome!
Professor Walker is absolutely stunning! I seriously loved this class! It is college algebra though, so it's not exactly an easy A. She does an exceptional job at keeping her students motivated. Her test reviews are very similar to what is given on her actual exams. She gives you all the necessary tools to succeed in this class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I took this class all summer long and I have to say I'm glad its over... Christine is an amazing professor! She expects that you study hard and get all your work done before the deadlines. Although the class will bring a ton of struggle, she looks out for her students to make sure they do well.
Keep in mind that Math1050 is the most failed college course. The course itself is extremely difficult. I personally did not like the homework setup for this class and feel it was not very effective at teaching the material. Tests were difficult but the prof. made very specific notes on each persons test so that you can do better next time.
I read the reviews here and thought that this would be a good class, I was VERY wrong. If you want to take an online class with little to no teaching and a homework site that looks and feels like a bag of smashed apples, then this class is for you. If you work hard for your tuition and value your time and knowledge, stay away from this class.
Christine is an absolute saint. I got a 45/100 on a test and still ended with a B-. It was a first block summer class so it was a whole semester crammed into 6 weeks It was a lot but with trips to the math lab and her constant enthusiasm I was able to get through with only a few major breakdowns. (Just don't do summer classes you deserve a break)
I hated math, but Christine made me love it! She is so enthusiastic and cares about her students. She makes math fun. Several extra credit opportunities are given. She gives the answers for homework assignments, so you basically just have to turn it in. She reviews test materials in depth. She is amazing! Would take this class again.
Prof Walker does not give enough resources. Online math is hard, but it's even worse with her. With all due respect, she needs to give you a step by step option instead of the videos that don't explain what the homework is. There were so many tests and that is all your grade is based off of, the homework is only a small percentage is homework
Christine is so kind and a great math professor. She's very good about going into detail on how to complete each problem & why it's important. I suffer with really bad anxiety & depression, but she was very understanding if I had to miss a class. Tests are like 80% of the grade. I missed a month straight and still passed with a B+.
She wasnt very helpful at all. I would ask her for help and explain things and she just didnt care. She mad assumptions about me that were not true and told me to just drop the class. I would never take it from her again idk if she even cares about her students.
Awesome teacher! She prepares you very well for exams. Tells you what problems to watch out for on exams. Lots of Aleks work (not bad at the end of the semester though). Homework solutions are given, so pretty much to just help you learn. Extra credit opportunities. Just put in the work and you'll get an A pretty easy.
Beware her online class. I've always taken reviews of a prof. with a grain of salt. Doesn't offer much help besides pointing to the math lab. Can't be bothered by students for help if they're struggling. If you take her class, know that you are on your own. Average exam scores were 50-60%. I'm sure they're a much different teaching in person.
Her tests are worth the entire grade. Dept final is WAY easier than her tests, but even if you do well on the final and prove you know the material, her tests drag your grade down. I did every assignment and studied (with a tutor) for each exam. She was rude whenever I messaged her with questions- saying things like "As I have said" or "Obviously"
This teacher is okay, the homework isn't bad and she is fair with that aspect, but your tests are worth 50% of your grade and they are so hard! On almost every test, the class average has been below a 50% and that is seriously saying something. I don't know why she has such a good rating here because she is an awful teacher.
Never again.
Upbeat attitude, well prepared, knowledgeable and patient
I'm not a math person and I found her class to be quite enjoyable. As long as you do the homework and reviews for the tests, you will pass. If you know the test reviews, you'll get A's on all your tests. They're the same format with different numbers. No "trick questions" and they don't drag on. I think every test was between 7-20 questions? Loved.
If you are good at tests and math, then this class will be easy. I took it online, so Professor Walker wasn't super prominent, but she was available if needed, I believe. Overall, it was a tough class with a lot of the grade riding on tests and sections of homework due several times a week.
I dropped out of her class because it was so hard. She was hard to reach (I took an online class) and she referred me to the math lab or read the book for help. There were tough, time consuming assignments almost every day and tests every other week. It was very difficult to keep up. I'm usually pretty good at math but I would've failed her class.
I took her online class and it was great. You have to put time in for homework assignments every week, but as long as youre willing to put that time in, its not bad. Her tests were super easy if you do the reviews and understood the reviews. Im not really a math person and really struggled in 1010 and I felt like this one wasnt bad.
The class I took was 5 credits online so there is a ton of homework. As long as you do the homework and study the reviews you should do fine. The tests are usually just a handful of changed questions from the review so that is key in studying. Overall it was difficult, but you can use apps like mathway to help with problems and the tutoring center.
Mrs. Walker has been one of my favorite professors. She always responds to my messages fast, which is important in an online class. She does a great job of preparing you for her tests and setting you up for success. I would definitely take her class again.
Dr. Walker is a good professor. Even though we used Aleks for assignments and went over many topics we'll probably never use, she didn't test us on those. She is very responsive and flexible. Like all math class, there's lots of homework so be ready for it. I got a C because of me not because of the professor. I would take the class again with her
I took Professor Walker for a 5 credit online math class that I thought would kill me, but she did amazing! She definitely makes you work for it, but it is very clear what she expects of you. I'm not good at math but I was able to pass with an A! Amazing professor.
1050-Super content heavy class. All through Aleks online. This class I spent the most homework on by far, but it also is 4 credits. I survived it, and I did 20 credits total. It's really not too bad, I would suggest planning the time for the homework. Christine was AMAZING. Always available to help, GREAT at communication. Loved the course overall.
She is amazing. She responds very well to messages and is very helpful. If you do the homework and know what is on the review guides, you will ace the class.
Prof. Walker was nice and a generous grader. If you can do the review you'll ace the tests. The huge problem for me was she didn't actually teach. All the "learning" is done online through ALEKS. If you need a math teacher to teach you an actual lesson don't take this class. This class is perfect if you are re-taking/learned 1050 previously.
She uses ALEKS for homework and the actual class, so you are teaching yourself. I thought it was super easy to use. One thing she does is she sometimes lets you use your notes for your exam which is nice.
Lots of ALEKS. But if you do everything and turn it in on time you will get an A. The tests are super easy... like 8 questions max and she sometimes lets us use notes. She is super nice and very understanding. With this being a 5 credit class, get ready to spend about 5-10 hours a week in this class.
I really enjoyed the format of this class. It's all on ALEKS so you go at your own pace. You never have to answer more than five questions for each topic, and there's usually only about 15-20 topics a week (split up by day) . If you struggle with math, I wouldn't suggest this class because there's no instruction, but otherwise you'll do great!
Such a helpful teacher. I am terrible with math but she graded fairly and let us use notes on tests which helped a lot. Probably my favorite teacher I had this semester!
If you struggle in math like I always have, I would HIGHLY recommend Christine! The Aleks online system was scary at first, but once I realized how beneficial it was, I was happy to go at my own pace. She even gives two weeks of refresher time so you don't feel lost! Tests are open note, and very small, also reflect the study guide VERY WELL!
Walker was a fine professor. I thought the class was difficult mostly b/c math is not my best subject. There is a lot of homework- almost every other day there's an assignment due. There are 5 exams and the final exam. She really makes you work for it, but it can be done. The review sheets are exactly like the exams so they were extremely helpful.
Ok, when I say this class is very homework centered I mean it. We used ALEKS for all of our homework assignments and I spent 132 hours in ALEKS. One recommendation I have if you decide to take this class- use the ALEKS optional assignments prior to the tests. They will be what helps you not fail the tests, even if they take you a few hours.
I liked the program because it made you learn it, however, as far as the teacher she never explains anything, kind of acts like she could care less if you succeed or not, and didn't really help answer my questions. The way she does tests is TERRIBLE! You have to write it out and then scan it in and you only have a couple min to do or you get a 0.
Professor Walker gives a lot of homework. When she gives homework she thinks she's the only class the student is taking. Her way of doing exam is ridiculous she will make you answer it on paper and upload it in a short period of time. Also, she wants you to do exactly as she does or else she'll give you a deduction.
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. You pay hundreds for the Aleks program and have to struggle to teach yourself, she does not work with you or provide any learning materials and is a tough grader on tests. If not for the math lab I wouldn't have passed. Avoid at all costs after all you don't pay for college to teach yourself!!!!!!!!:(
Worst professor I've ever had. I'm a junior and that's the first class I drop out in almost 3 years. You literally teach yourself and when you reach out for help, she's extremely rude.
Pros: -Allows notes on exams -Gives a little extra credit -Usually responds within 24 hours Cons: -Extremely homework heavy -No class instruction (ALEKS/e-Book only) -Harsh exam grading Cold/condescending to questions at the beginning of the semester, and seemed to warm up as the semester wore on. I relied heavily on YouTube for clarification.
UGH she has been condesending when I have asked for help, insainely tough grader and does not actually teach you AT ALL. Its all aleks. Her tests are short and proctored, but that means that if you miss any little thing she will dock you hard and it will hurt your grade. I regret taking this class from her. I learned/retained nothing from her.
Exams are worth 80% of your grade, if you fail these, you wont pass the class. This class is also heavy in homework. Homework was A per using ALEKS, average exam grade was D+. Extremely harsh on grading, exam grades are hand written, need to be EXACT how the teacher wants, worth 100 pts, only 8 q's. This teacher is setting up students for failure.
Worst teacher that I have had here at UVU. I don't know how she has all of these 5 star reviews. All of her good reviews are from years ago. Stay away from this teacher at all costs. She is a very tough grader and her tests are hard. The class average was a failing grade since tests account for 85% of your grade. She is hard to reach and very rude
All exams have less than 10 questions each. And usually only one question per concept, so if you miss one you're already not getting an A on that exam. They're taken on Proctorio, no notes allowed,1 hour time limit. All learning/instructing is done through ALEKS. Expect to do a lot of googling and learning on your own. Last exam replaces lowest.
THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. There are 4 exams that are 60% of your grade and the Final is 25% of your grade. HW is only 15% so it doesn't count for much. All the 4 exams were 10 questions or less so if you miss some you can fail. The Final is about 12 questions. All ALEKS and when I reached out for help, it wasn't good support.
85 hours and 23 minutes of homework for an F. Worst Class ever. Worst Professor ever. According to ALEKS, the online software that she has us use, I spent 85 hours and 23 minutes working on homework. What did I get for my effort? an F.
Course done through ALEKS, so you are going through lessons by yourself. Decent work load, 1-2 assignments per week, so ~15 topics. 3 exams and a final that replaces your lowest exam, and is also open note (handwritten only). I've always struggled with math, but Christine was extremely caring and helped me out a lot during the semester.
Professor Walker's class is a mixed bag. While the ALEKS system allows self-paced learning, the tests can be challenging if you don't stay on top of the material. unstuckstudy and the review guides were helpful for test prep. Overall, a fair but demanding course.
Professor Walker is amazing.
There's a new lesson every class and homework sent out after each one. Sometimes though, we go through the homework together as a class the next time we see each other. She explains everything in a lot of detail and passing is easy.
She explains everything very clearly and goes over any questions. Homework is on paper so it's important to be organized because there are a lot of them.
I am having to use YouTube to learn anything in this class. The homework is nothing like the notes or lectures she gives us. You have 3 mid-term exams, and they are worth 60% of your grade. The final exam accounts for 20% of your grade. If you miss a single question on the mid or final, say goodbye to your A or B.
I was horrified to take Math 1050, and I let professor walker know about my anxiety from the get-go. She simplified everything. She is so amazing at teaching Math. Easily one of my favorite professors. I cannot recommend her enough. Take her test questions and practice them, they are on the test and very similar.
Professor Walker was great. Very responsive. She wants her students to succeed.
