Good teacher but it is a difficult course, so be ready to study for exams. Fairly good lecturer and great at explaining how concepts work. Attendance is not mandatory to pass, yet there are clicker-questions as point for the final grade - so attendance only helps. Exams can be difficult yet stick to most of what is discussed.
Pretty easy class, all tests are based off his powerpoint rarely picked up the book. Pretty good teacher, had no interest in BIO and he makes everything understandable, cheat sheet allowed for tests
Bang is so tight, top 5 ASU professor. He is funny and tests entirely off of the slides. Posts slides online and you can use a cheat sheet on the tests. Put slide material on the cheat sheet and you'll get an A. Only downside is mandatory attendance with clicker points.
Easy, awesome, nice professor from Norway. Fun to discuss Norwegian metal with. Clicker questions give you easy points. Tests right off the slides. Often seen around the MU and is always apt to giving advice outside of class. Lab TAs know you don't want to be there in class and make it easy enough for you.
I loved his class, never knew how much I liked Bio til he taught it. Attendance req only b/c of clicker points. Doesn't really use textbook but you need the workbook. Funny guy and always made the subject interesting. Highly recommend.
Prof. B's class is fairly easy if you show up and take notes. He enjoys putting subtle jokes in his slides and tests which make you want to look more carefully so you don't miss anything. If you review your notes and his slides there's no reason not to get an A on his tests. He only tests off of what he covers in class.
I almost changed my major because of his classes. 2 of the best bio courses I've ever had. His goofy sense of humor and interest in the subject make classes fun as well as informative. I am very sad that I won't get to take another class with him. -Girls, do yourselves a favor and take his class, you won't be disappointed. But he is a gentleman.
No amazing, not bad. Id probably take him again if I needed a bio class. He does have an accent though which can make it difficult at times.
I took this class as an easy lab credit. Emphasis on EASY. The class was almost a joke. The teacher was nice. It was difficult to hear/understand him because he has an accent and he is so soft spoken. I read every chapter and studied the powerpoints and tests were a breeze. His test questions were worded weird sometimes.
Nothing against the guy cuz he seems cool enough, but this class was ridiculous. I attended SI (unhelpful), went to reviews, attended every lecture, read the book, did the quizzes... Ended up withdrawing. Exam questions are VERY difficult and unclear/tricky. Bang is definitely NOT the greatest lecturer (nervous, unsure of himself). Hard class.
I love the man. He has a slight accent, but it is very understandable. Tests are fair and so are his clicker questions. He works really hard to make sure you succeed. His lectures do get a bit long, but he really tries to keep you entertained and interested.
LOVE HIM! After barely passing BIO181, taking Dr. Bang's class really made me fall in love with biology again! His lectures are long, but he is SO funny it makes it worth it. The clicker questions are super easy if you pay attention, and the tests are reasonable. I hope I can take another class from him again, he's awesome!
Real nice guy, explains topics well and his exam and clicker questions are quite reasonable and relevant. He makes some pretty funny jokes and the class goes by easily. He even negotiated a full refund from bioportal for all of his students after so many issues with online quizzes. If you need to withdraw from his class.. BIO just isn't for you.
Great instructor!!! He puts humor into his slides and lectures which make everything lots of fun! ALL TEST MATERIAL IS FROM THE SLIDES!!! Don't bother buying the text book for this class. I didn't open it the whole semester. Highly recommend him though :)
Not difficult, but can be quite frustrating. Dr. Bang doesn't have the strongest grasp of English, and often his questions are worded poorly (especially on the quizzes). If you study only the lectures, you should do fine, but be forewarned, you will occasionally be frustrated with a quiz or test question poorly worded or just overall wrong.
Dr.Bang is funny, sweet, and nice. All his exams and quiz questions come from the slides, which he posts online after lecture. As long as you pay attention and read over slides, you will be fine! Do NOT buy book, unless you are majoring in biology. I loved Dr.Bang! He is adorable...like a puppy...
Dr. Bang is a great professor who makes a dry topic like Ecology rather interesting. Has a great sense of humor and really cares for his students. His tests are based off his PowerPoints so as long as you study those you should be fine for his tests.
He's a cool guy and makes lectures as interesting as possible, but even then it's still pretty boring if you're not a bio major or something. Just study the slides very thoroughly and you should be fine.
Nice guy. He lectures from powerpoint. Read book/supplement with his PP slides. A LOT of slides, but concepts are very general. Also has clicker points that count against you if wrong. SO show up to class! My semester started out nuts with something called bioportal online quizzing. He had to stop it and then went to weekly quizzes. Not to hard.
He's a cool guy and tries to make the class interesting with occasional jokes or funny slides. Content is not that difficult. However, his wordings on tests and quizzes are pretty bad so it gets pretty confusing sometimes. his wordings make an easy question into a difficult question
Course set up is inconvenient. 2 tests, which practically determines your grade, and a final. Doesn't drop clicker points which hurts your grade as well. 300+ slides that "you should know" for each test. No study guides, but rather an overview of many ppt presentations. I would never take this professor again.
I love Biology, but HATED this class. Boring. Quizzes and tests are worded weird. Dr. Bang is a cool guy, but I would never take a class from him again.
Dr. Bang was pretty funny and a nice guy, but the class just has too much information. Some of the tests and quizzes are worded a little funny, but if you go to class and do all your lab work you should do great!
He goes through a lot of information that is excess, and is not clear about what we really need to know and what we don't. It's a guessing game sometimes, but other than that he is a good teacher, a fair teacher, and overall very good, especially for not being a native english speaker. I highly recommend taking him for Bio 182.
Fairly easy class. Clicker questions so expect to attend. Tests are not heavily weighed and are not too difficult although his tests can be slightly ambiguous at times. Has an accent and can mispronounce words but still decent lecturer. Nice guy who wants you to succeed. 88=A which is more than doable.
You can read the book if you want, but I only studied the slides because that is what he makes his tests off of. Clicker questions are pretty straightforward; tests are fair but you will need to study for them and read the questions carefully. When I went into his office hours he was very friendly and helpful.
Dr. Bang's class should be an easy A if you go to class and study his lecture slides THOROUGHLY. I didn't use the book and slacked off a lot and managed to get a B. The final is harder than the unit tests so make sure you study (the unit tests lull you into a false sense of security). He's pretty boring and reads directly from his slides.
Dr. Bang is a great lecturer, you honestly do not need the book for this class in my opinion. Just study his lecture slides like crazy and you'll get an A.
I loved professor Bang! He made lecture extremely interesting and I loved his sense of humor. He's the best science teacher I've had at the Tempe campus however that does not mean this class is an easy A. I can't imagine taking his tests unprepared. Study the lecture slides in and out and you'll do good. I highly recommend him!!
Dr. Bang was a really cool teacher. I loved how he personalized all his slides and put a fun video or gif so that would stick in your head later. He even made us do the Harlem Shake in class! Overall, pretty fun. Tests are all right-mainly based off powerpoint slides but can be worded strangely.
dr bang is a good teacher. he can be pretty funny at times. he relates his lectures to things you understand. Exams can be tricky, you have to really know your stuff.
Dr Bang is a nice guy but I am not a fan of this class. What was so hard about this class was the exams. Many of my peers always complained. He is against study guides and says "exams should be unpredictable". Half of the material we learn doesn't make it on the exam, expect 5 questions on each exam barely covered. Plus his exams are worded badly.
Dr.Bang was a really awesome professor! He is pretty funny and entertaining to listen to. As for the tests, most of the information comes from the power point slides and sometimes from clicker questions, so go to class! Highly recommend him!
Dr. Bang is a very friendly and entertaining lecturer. He throws random pictures and jokes into his slides. Info came directly from powerpoint slides, which are posted online. Would recommend him for this class.
This professor kind of grows on you. First he seems a little weird but he is actually quite cute with a good sense of humor. He uses many slides but if you study them you are well prepared for the exams. Clicker questions usually show up in exams, so make sure to write them down.He offered 10 extra clicker questions in case you missed some classes.
BIO 182 covers a ton of subjects, but Dr. Bang does a great job of explaining them all. Grades were based on online quizzes, clickers, and tests (which were curved). Dr. Bang always stayed after lecture to answer questions and was very accommodating when we had technical difficulties. Excellent professor!
Fantastic professor. He covered the exact information that you needed to know for the exams. Go to class and it is an easy A. He was funny and interesting so class was never too boring.
This was a great course with a great instructor. He covered everything, and once you got used to his Norwegian accent and sense of humor, the class was easy and fun.
Really great professor. He's Norwegian and has a bit of an accent but it shouldn't bother you and it's kind of adorable. His lectures are kinda long but the material is really easy. Take good notes during class though because his powerpoints don't have a lot of info on them. Tests are all multiple choice and really easy.
This guy is awesome! His tests are straightforward and right from his notes. He's a funny man with a funny accent. You do actually have to study but if you stick to his notes and go to lecture, you'll be fine.
He was entertaining and easy to learn from. He specifies exactly what he wants you to study on. His accent can be a little tough at times but is not too bad.
Dr. Bang is awesome!!! He definitely knows his stuff and is entertaining during lecture. The fact that he had a test question involving "What Does the Fox Say" earned him even more points in my book. Definitely take him if you can! Best bio prof I've ever had!!!
He was very helpful, however he was sometimes hard to understand due to his accent. We never used the textbook so don't bother. Also, the labs are a ridiculous amount of work for what the material is. I know the TA's will be different every year, but both me and many others in labs were graded satanically.
Anyone who took AP Bio in HS should get an A. That said, the class does require some effort, but Dr. B manages to make it engaging. Tests are straightforward and from lecture slides. He delivers good material and doesn't dumb it down like other profs..but doesn't explain things super well. Kind of cold outside of class.
Great teacher! Highly recommend. Bang was a great teacher to have, due to his clarity which was great for a foreign teacher, as well as keeping you at least mildly entertained while staying on the content with his humor and his occasional homeland patriotism. Take him!
He's very attractive for an older gentleman.
Dr. Bang is pretty straightforward. He's funny and engages students in class. He's really generous in grading and curved our final grades greatly due to poor lab grades. The most work you will put in this course is in lab, straight up.
To do well in this class you really just need to go to lecture (there are easy clicker questions) and study a bit. The tests are a little tricky but not too hard. I never even opened the textbook. Dr. Bang's powerpoints are a little confusing but he explains things well. He's also adorable and has the cutest Norwegian accent. Good for gen bio.
Dr. Bang is a fun professor. Although the class is kind of boring, he does his best to make it interesting. You can tell he loves the subject, and his accent is fun to listen to! The tests were really easy if you study the lecture material. You don't need the textbook at all. Just go to class to get clicker points and pay attention in lecture.
Material for the class was easy and Dr. Bang did not try to make it any harder. He is engaging during lectures, but sometimes does not offer very satisfactory answers to the more curious questions from students. He's nonchalant and often makes a few funny quips in a lecture. His accent presents no difficulty. Pretty chill guy, would recommend.
Easy class, Dr. Bang is a good lecturer
He's a good lecturer, funny and easy
The only reason you should go to class is for clicker questions. And if you get it wrong, you can make a fairly weak argument and he'll turn the whole problem into a poll (POINT FOR EVERYONE). His tests are fairly easy. The material is pretty boring stuff. Quizzes before exams are online and you get two attempts. You don't need the textbook.
This class was very easy. A lot of the test questions seemed to be common sense and there was no homework to be done outside of class (no mastering biology or anything like that). The only reason to go to lecture is to get the clicker points, and his lectures can get quite dry and boring. DO NOT buy the textbook. Overall I would recommend Dr. Bang.
The labs are absolute garbage. Hours upon hours of pointless, nonsensical, very difficult busywork. The design of them is an absolute mess and clashes with the lectures constantly. Bang himself is a perfectly good teacher, though. His lectures are clear and entertaining, and his part of the class is perfectly reasonable. But the labs ruin it.
an easy class if you do the readings and study for the test. he is very clear about everything he expects from you.
At first he is a little difficult to understand because of his accent, but you eventually get used to it and its okay. I recommend always going to lecture since he has clicker questions for points throughout the course of the lecture. Also, all his exams are completely based on the lecture slides. Class still requires some work and dedication.
I absolutely loved this professor and this course. Dr. Bang's love of nature is readily apparent and he teaches with humor. This was the best hour of my school day this semester, hands down. If you attend class regularly and actually pay attention and take good notes you should have no trouble getting a good grade. Text is good for clicker points.
He was a good professor and I would take the class again. His lectures are pretty clear, but not enough to give you a great idea of what will be on the test. He taught the second half of the semester and we had one test with him and the grade average wasn't really good. He is funny and tries to make the subject interesting.
The labs are absolutely pointless and stupid. It is three hours of stuff that can usually get done in an hour. Overall show up to class and take additional notes off his slides. They are very vague and he talks more about it than he does read. Also take notes of every clicker question. They end up on his tests. don't miss class.
The lab saved me!!; This is not a very very very easy class like people say. You actually have to put in some work to get an "A" because the exams are hard.. The first exam is easy but after that ............. and I dont think he really cares about his students or maybe it was just me.. I took me like 5 weeks to get used to his accent!!
He is a nice guy and did his best to make this class as passable as possible. His lectures can be a drag but he does include some funny visuals to try and make it enjoyable. Tests aren't easy but are all based on lecture slides. Has an accent but is not hard to understand. I would take him again if I could.
Let us drop our lowest test out of 5 (including final, I didn't even take the final). Lab is boring but easy. You can skip pretty much every class but know all of the slides really well and you can get A's or high B's on every test. He does clicker points to make sure you go to some class though, but the questions are easy and you can ask others.
This is the most disorganized class and lab I have taken. The TA's are terrible. Labs are horribly disorganized. The lab coordinator and the TA's don't help the students. The exams are difficult. Dr. Bang doesn't know how to write exams so he uses question banks . Students who get an A in this class have access to the question bank.
He is confusing at times, but will work with you and wants you to pass. He is in love with science and gets into the topics he teaches during biology. He will discuss why each clicker answer is right or wrong.
I found this class incredibly easy. You pretty much just need to know exactly what's on the slides. I did read the book but most of that wasn't even on the tests. I got all A's on the exams just from reading the slides. The labs suck though. They drag on and are quite unorganized. You can only miss 2 and still pass.
The class is very easy. He makes it clear what you are going to be tested on, and as long as you go to lecture and read the book you are sure to get an A. He tests you on the simpler things in the lecture and in the book, so its simple if you put in effort. He is not a super interesting or exciting guy, but it was a great class regardless.
He is way better than Orchinik, who teachers the first half of this course. Pretty much the same set up, but different guy. Has an accent, which isn't too bad to understand. Tests are pretty easy
Bang was the best science professor I've had so far at ASU. He has an accent, but is pretty easy to understand. He likes to crack cute little jokes to keep the lectures more interesting. You keep your best 4 out of 5 exam grades, which saved me this semester. There is no lecture homework except to keep up with the readings.
Great professor, can be a little unclear on some concepts but all you have to do is ask him to clarify after class. The clicker for clicker points is a must, but we didn't need the text book too much if you attended every lecture.
Very knowledgable and very relatable. He used humor in class many times.
Dr. Bang made his lectures interesting. I really enjoyed the class. Exams were easy as long as you studied. The lectures were clear. You don't have to go to class once you get 100 clicker points, but he gave a few hints about exam questions during lecture so its always nice to go.
His lectures are quite boring, I had a hard time staying awake in class. Clicker questions suck. I would never want to take this class again.
I had to drop this class. I took this with some smart friends and they dropped it too. It was hard to understand him and the lectures were boing. The tests are what killed my grade even when i studied. Unless you're good at bio don't take it your first time around with him it'll be very hard to understand him.
Better half of BIO282. adorable accent, likes feedback. very clear on his topics. Overall solid lecturer. If you pay attention in class, you'll breeze through the exams.
Great experience when I took this course. Lectures were clear, fun, and Dr. Bang is very entertaining. Clear he really cares about his students. I used the slides to study and literally memorized every word with quizlet. His office hours after exams helped understand mistakes. Lab inst. was a great guy and helped me improve my lab report writing.
Dr. Bang is a REALLY nice and sweet guy. He cracks awkward/cute jokes in class to keep students interested. However he is confusing and the lecture is a little boring. He doesn't explain things very clearly. But he is there to help always. Exams are easy . You have to go to class for clicker points. I'd only take his class for easy credit.
Dr. Bang is very nice and sweet. He is always willing to help students. However, I found his lectures and clicker questions to be confusing. Even when I studied and felt I knew everything I somehow ended up with B's on every test. It was frustrating. I wish there were more resources for this class. Sadly, I felt disconnected the whole semester.
There's a lot of opportunities to get points in this class. Show up every day for clicker points and do all assignments and extra credit because the exams can be tricky.
Show up to all sessions to get the clicker points and do all the online quizzes along with showing up to the tests (use StudyBlue to Quizlet to memorize the vast amounts of info). Prof is nice and somewhat funny, really easy to talk to and very willing to help. Recommend taking any bio class with him.
he was hard to understand, thank god for all the homework and quizzes or i wouldn't have done well in this class, study sessions are in the middle of the day during the week during my other classes so i could not attend.
You have to really try in this class. It was hard but with studying the slides and applying it to examples you can do this. Book is a must, you should read in order to better understand. Also, attend class. Clicker questions are necessary and lab grades are important. He curves accordingly so that's a good part. Don't be afraid to reach out to him.
He loves what he teaches, and he is very invested in each lecture. Genuinely wants everyone to learn, love, and understand Biology. Great professor, I would take him again with no hesitation.
The new technology (BioBeyond) had some issues, but overall the program was a more interesting & memorable way to learn about science than I've had in the past. Plus Dr. Bang showed a great deal of patience dealing with the technical issues and with students' (sometimes very dramatic...) complaints..
It was annoying to deal with the new BioBeyond software and all its bugs. It felt a lot like it wasn't tested well before class started. Even so, the class does a pretty good job covering the basics and annoying glitches aside, the software /was/ helpful for memorizing. Would've been happier if the material was a bit more challenging.
You definitely need to pay attention in class in order to know what you're doing on the tests. Don't rely heavily on the SI leaders study guides because the tests aren't like that. There are clicker questions so make sure to get those easy points!
The homework for this course is just to watch videos online and answer a few questions about it. The readings are not difficult at all, the book isn't even needed. Just beware that he likes to talk.. a lot. We were taking a quiz one day and he talked for 90% about things that were not on the quiz. smh
The attendance felt pointless, we didn't learn anything. Basically all the homework we received was just to watching a different professors video and answer questions about those videos. Doesn't give individual extra credit. Tough grader. The tests are horrible and do not have anything to do with material we learned.
Dr. Bang literally throws out extra credit like it's confetti at New Years. He does do clicker points every lecture so attendance is pretty important, but questions are easy. He's very understanding and is almost always willing to extend due-dates. He seems to really care about what he is teaching and was overall just a joy to have as a professor.
He is a reasonable teacher with understandable lectures. The tests are just as easy as his lectures and homework is numerous but reasonable. The Lab is a lot of easy concepts that you have to spend a lot of time remembering. I spent an average of 2 hours studying for his tests and I got an easy A. I think you can do it too. Good Luck.
Nice guy but sucks at teaching. His material is easy but his exams are super wordy and difficult even if you know your stuff (i failed almost all of them and i studied way too much). Luckily he gives out points for hw, lab, clickers, and not just exams. GO TO CLASS just to get clicker points and do the hw or else your grade will suffer in the end.
Class was pretty easy and straight-forward. Bang does a reasonable job teaching this class. The only downside is that attendance was mandatory in order for clicker points, otherwise I would not have attended class ever. Gives out a lot of extra credit and reviews for tests. As long as you do them you will get a good grade.
Dr. Bang is a pretty good professor. His lectures are only necessary to go to because of clicker questions, but besides that they are pretty boring. This is an easy A class and he gives a lot of extra credit. As long as you put in some work you'll pass.
Prof Bang is a true gem. His lectures are clear and understandable. The tests are about 45 questions and pretty easy. Just study the lecture slides and online quizzes and its a guaranteed 90+. He does do clickers which can be annoying. A little bit of extra credit and curving. Much easier content than BIO 181. I would take again. Good Luck. D
Bang's Class was definitely one of my easier classes in terms of homework and tests. We didn't use the book which is a plus. Clicker Questions are easy points. Tests are very easy and only require about an hour of studying each to guarantee a good grade. Bang barely has an accent which is more cool than annoying. All in all, It was easy.
Cool guy its just some of the material can get confusing by the way they explain things but if you ask theyll make sure you get it
He is a really nice guy and the class is so easy to get an A in. the issue is that he doesn't teach really teach, and his version of active learning is a joke. Its an an easy class but this was for my major so I came to learn and I have learned nothing in the class
Get ready for weekly quizzes.
Easy A and very interesting with the graphics and interactive lessons. Good choice to take in conjunction with a class that requires heavy writing.
Dr. Bang is such a great professor! He is a great teacher, but it would be great if he could include drawings in his lectures so it could give students a better understanding. However, I loved this class!
This course utilized an online site that costs $25 called Biobeyond. The best thing I liked about Biobeyond was the fact that there were no tests and that for each answer you get wrong you get the correct answer told to you and are able to restart the entire lesson and get a perfect score thanks to that. Projects were somewhat hard but doable.
If you genuinely care about what you're learning and want a professor who is passionate, driven, engaging, caring, organized, fair, and responsive to student questions, Dr. Bang is the perfect professor for you. If you stay on top of your readings, come to class for clicker points, and put in the necessary work, you'll earn an A. Simple as that.
I really liked Dr. Bang as a lecturer and person. His course was easy to get through with a little effort and you can just tell that he enjoys what he's doing and cares about his student's success. I think it's also important for him that his students enjoy his course and have a good experience. I've never had a nicer instructor.
Nicest instructor you'll ever have. Bang genuinely cares about his students and making bio fun for everybody. So take him if you can! Class is on a points system (not percentages), so very easy to pass with an A.
Dr. bang was super fun, but lectures were never completed on times most of the semester. It made things easier to take notes prior to lecture and write down his comments as he made them during class ( which was helpful ). He uploads lectures prior to class most days, and clickers are used EVERY day. Also launchpad homework due prior to the lecture
Dr. Bang is the type of professor who cares that his students do well. He offered so much extra credit throughout the semester. When needing to review a exam he was accessible and spent a lot of time working through it with me. The lab is 30% of your grade so do well in that, get the launchpad and clicker points, and do alright on the tests.
I enjoyed the format of this course. It's a newish software. There's no tests essentially the entire course is one big test. It's a lot of work but easy work. I feel like I learned a lot in this class and would take this teacher again if necessary. If you need to take a science with a lab, TAKE THIS COURSE.
If you need a science class with a lab, take this. No tests, everything is done via the online simulation "BioBeyond". The class is not too hard, you can repeat the lessons as many times as you want for a higher score. The lessons are time consuming though, and BioBeyond has many bugs, which was the most annoying part. Recommend this class.
Bang gives you stickers for talking that count as extra credit. He lets you retake quizzes, midterms and the final. Has fun games with prizes and more extra credit. Overall the greatest professor at ASU.
This class OKAY. I got a B+ only because I slacked a couple of the weeks. He uses a program that I actually kind of like. You learn about Biology but it feels like if you are playing a game. Just pay attention to how to use the program and pay attention to the questions as they sometimes are tricky. Would recommend if you need BIO class like I did.
BIO100 uses this new BioBeyond software, it's pretty cool but sometimes has bugs, which is annoying. The class itself is time consuming, but we had the chance to work ahead. We could repeat the lessons as much as we wanted to improve our score; which, actually helped me learn more. Professor Bang responds quickly to questions and in a helpful way.
Dr. Bang really tries to make the class more interesting by incorporating the material into activities. The homework's are moderately easy and you get multiple attempts but the quizzes and tests are pretty hard mostly due to the wording of the questions.
He's just an overall like able guy, he's funny happy, good vibes. Doesn't explain things very well, often gets confused about what he is talking about but he makes an honest effort. Good at responding to emails and tending to students. bio 281 tests (300 points out of 1340) were stupid hard, but the rest of the class was fine, so u can do well
Easily one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. This is all in an online program and Prof. Bang is there to help you along the way if you hit any snags. I really felt like I learned so much. Easy, but it does take up a lot of time. So make sure you plan ahead and you'll do just fine.
This class uses BioBeyond. It is a bit buggy but I loved the content. There were parts that felt like a video game. And I finished the class a few weeks early! Plus, you can restart a section as many times as you want to get higher or full points. Note: don't do the units last minute as unit(s) are due every week and they do take a while.
I loved using bio beyond. I've never been able to get an A in a science class before and this felt like a fun interactive game. I would love to take a bio beyond class again. As long as you follow along and finish, you should get an A! I repeated some lessons for better points.
BioBeyond is buggy and can be frustrating. But Dr. Bang, CAs and students helped each other. I enjoyed it though, especially the last unit. Dr. Bang was helpful and answered any questions, concerns, etc. in a timely manner. Would take a class w/ him again!
We used BioBeyond for our course, it made it very easy and dare I say, fun to learn. Professor Bang is so kind, and is always available for any questions you might have. Extra Credit is offered every week He recognized technical issues with the website, and canceled an entire module for us because we were all struggling
Super funny guy, lectures are really helpful and help reiterate what you read the night before. Exams are super easy and have retake opportunities.
Professor Bang is pretty great. attendance is graded by clicker questions, and you get points for doing them, but enough are given that you can miss a few classes and get some wrong without losing too much of your grade. Highly recommended. Class is way easier than AP bio, so if you took that, don't be worried.
This class isn't too bad if you keep up with the weekly CogBooks readings, but man his tests are TOUGH! Even if you know the information by heart, the way the questions are worded and the graphs he uses makes the exams 10x harder than they should be. Luckily the labs are simple and there is TONS of extra credit offered all throughout the semester.
This was my easiest class all semester. I didn't touch CogBooks once, but I did well on every test. Also, the course offers a ton of extra credit, and you can retake every exam. Dr. Bang is funny, his accent is adorable, and he's passionate about his work. Lectures are boring, but you need to attend most of them for clicker points.
Dr. Bang is a really nice guy and you can tell that he's always trying his best during lectures. He does have clicker points so participation matters. Tests aren't too bad as long as you understand the general concepts and terms for the unit. All tests can be retaken. I'd say reading over cogbooks is helpful.
This class was enjoyable. The BIO282 team was extremely helpful during the online transition and ensured my good grade, one that I could not have gotten without their helpful adjustments to the course. Bang is funny and made 9ams fun, well bring an energy drink too.
I had Dr. Bang for 281/282, and I honestly would NOT take him again. He's terrible at explaining even basic concepts, especially anything involving chemistry. His tests are horrible with extremely tricky questions and the in-class 'interactivity' was just plain annoying. Fortunately the extra credit saved me this semester, otherwise I woulda failed
This was the best Biology course I have ever taken. If you feel nervous about BIO like I did take this class. It was so easy and fun. The professor is there to help if you need but you do the work yourself. No lectures. No textbook. Great interactive activities.
Had 2 of the BIO professors, Bang was the 1st one (for 281). BIO 281 and282 classes ran the exact same way in each class w the same exams, assignments, etc. what differs is the professor & their style. He's super chill & his teaching style was better than who I took 282 w/ this semester. Try your best to take him, from experience its worth it 100%.
He implores you to buy the textbook; I never got it because I knew the material, but he doesn't cover half the material in his class and expects you to learn it on your own. I probably wouldn't have gone to class if it wasn't for the clicker questions. His TAs are very useful and he gives extra credit for speaking in class. Really nice teacher.
Lectures were unclear a lot of the time and honestly I learned more from the TAs instruction. Dr. Bang was nice but I feel like he just didn't give clear instruction. The lecture slides were vague and every professor used the same ones. The content wasn't difficult but the test questions could be vague also.
Dr. Bang was a nice professor, I preferred him to the other professor I took for BIO281. I feel like both BIO281/282 both aren't great at covering material in class. He encourages you to buy Cogbooks, the online textbook, but it is definitely not necessary. I learned most of the stuff on my own and TA review sessions are super helpful.
This is a really good online class for it being a science class. There is one program that you have to buy and that is what the whole class is. They take time so make sure to not wait until the last minute but it can be a very easy class if you put the required time in. Some people had problems with the program but I did not and I liked it as well.
Biobeyond is fairly simple to use. I am nowhere near a science major and was bad at Biology in high school, but took this class anyway. Biobeyond actually made me love Biology and the course! It was stress-free as you were able to repeat units to gain as many points necessary to get an A. Would def recommend!!
This class is a digital lab so if you couldn't care less about biology and just want to get through it this is the class for you. You can retake the labs and tests as many times as you want to improve grades. The professor is basically non existent and I often wonder if he really even exists. There's no way you don't get an A if you put the time in
Loved this professor and class! Grades consisted of labs (Labster was easy, normal labs took lil more effort), 5 point group assignments done in recitation, cogbooks quizzes that were easy, iclicker questions in class (only have to get 1 right to get full points), exams, and extra credit. Go to the TAs study sessions for exams!
Dr. Bang is awesome! Easy class if you pay attention and do the homework. I'm a business student and was worried about taking a science course, but this class was super doable. Exams are easy if you listen to his reviews & go to the TA reviews. Homework takes awhile but it's not hard. Labs are kinda tricky if you don't have a good group, but doable
This class has a fair amount of homework to do (CogBooks, Online Labs Canvas quizzes, and ACE Activities), but it is not bad. Professor Bang did not seem to know what was going on a lot of the time, but the TA's were amazing! 4 Midterm Exams with a Cumulative Final, one exam dropped. I took this class for Honors credit, and the project was easy.
This class IS NOT an easy A as some have said, not online at least. The BioBeyond server is glitchy and, honestly, poorly written. It's mainly non-descriptive passages followed by LOOSELY related, specific questions. I'm a 4th year bio major and I had a lot of trouble figuring out what the questions were actually asking. Would not recommend.
The BioBeyond site he uses glitches a lot, and you are never given back those points you lose due to glitches. He was very accessible and friendly, but he wasn't very helpful. You won't know your grade until the course is completely over either. Not a super hard class but hope the program doesn't glitch on you
Professor Bang was great for BIO100. BioBeyond was a great program and ran smoothly on Chrome for me. Bang was super helpful and I really enjoyed having the active discussion board for all questions that I had. TAs were also on top of things and answered quickly. Almost felt like I was playing a video game. I recommend!
Here's the thing: I didn't interact with Dr. Bang at all. He seems knowledgeable enough, but BioBeyond is its own interactive platform with virtual labs and assignments embedded within. If you take it seriously, it's hard not to get an A. You really have to stay on top of the work, though. The class moves quickly and deadlines sneak up on you.
No exams which was a different. Uses Biobeyond which can be annoying at times. Program can have glitches at times. You can retake lessons within the deadline to achieve perfect score. Gets easier as you redo lessons. You have to pay $40 but get 2 weeks free trial so you can finish all lessons without having to pay for program. 8 lessons total.
This is the natural science class you want to take if you have no interest in science or biology. You can retake the modules as much as you'd like to get an A. No exams. All the assignments are on a third party site- biobeyond. Easy stuff guys.
BEWARE: No longer uses BioBeyond! Class itself is great and designed to make you think and work for it. However, CogBooks and Labster were awful.
Professor Bang made this class straightforward and to the point. Do the work and you will get the credit. Lots of labs and reading but it is well worth to do the work and labs. If you dont do the labs you will not pass.
Good class, and great professor. Engaging as much as possible for an online class. He is always accessible and response time is practically immediate.
Bang is a really good guy. He genuinely cares about his students. This class is a doozy and be prepared to spend an unnecessary amount of time on the homework. Make sure to do the bonus points, it's a free up to 5% extra on your grade.
As long as you pay attention in class and participate in the labs you should do well in his class. He does do iclickers throughout the lecture and lab for participation. The professor is reasonable if you talk to him and shows that he cares about his students.
Easy Class! I took it online and was a B session so everything moved fast. However, the work was easy and I finished the whole course in like 4 weeks. There is a lot of reading and assignments to do but they are easy! Just time-consuming! No exams but there are quizzes for each module! As long as you finish everything by the due date, easy A!
This was one of the easiest classes ever. If you don't finish with at least a 99 in the class then it's on you. If you don't like what you got on a unit then you can just redo it over as many times to get a better grade. There are also quizzlets that may or may not just have every single answer on them... you didn't hear that from me though.
This class was super easy and I would definitely recommend it for non-majors. If you do the work, attend lecture, and do the reading using the online textbook you'll pass with flying colors. Dr. Bang is very approachable and easy to access outside of class as well.
I really enjoyed my class with Professor Bang. He was pretty well organized. His lectures were fine enough. I would recommend his class to anyone.
Class was mid. Don't miss your dreamscape VR sessions and definitely iclicker questions as well. Beware of that. Labs and Lectures has mandatory attendence through iclicker. Tests are pretty based off the materials so not too bad. His lectures are a bit difficult to follow, needs a louder/clearer mic. A bunch of lab/quizzes, make sure to do them!
Easy bio class! DO THE LABS, COGBOOKS, AND ICLICKERS FROM LECTURES! Your participation grade matters, if you don't do the work you'll fail. Quiz questions are mainly from iclicker, cogbooks, & labs. Do not skip recitations, if you don't want to go in person take advantage of zoom to get iclicker points. Only downside is that cogbooks is super slow
Waste of time. The amt of homework is a lot for a 100 level class. I DEFINITELY recommend finding a group of students to collaborate with to make this class more bearable. Hint: you usually work together during class with the people you sit by at recitation. Dr Bang barely lectures, it was mostly his TAs, who were not great. Only take if u have to.
The class was pretty easy. The tests aren't weighted too much so even if you fail them you will be good if you participate. Don't miss recitations and go to the VR sessions. He is very lenient and drops your lowest grades on most of his grading criteria. He also has many easy extra credit assignments so as long as you do the work you'll pass easily
The reading is heavy but he will always help you if you reach out.
I recommend BIO 100 with Bang to anyone who isn't the best at Science. This is a very easy and fun course and Bang makes it so much better.
Be ready for this professor's class. He has a lot of tedious and busy work. A great amount of lecture videos within a small timeframe and having to retain so much info in that same amount of time. Get ready to work. Good luck!
BE AWARE!!! This is not a biology class! This is a statistic class! You also have to be a pro at excel to pass this class! If you have a very good computer, only then take this class. If you are not in science major, do yourself a favour and take a different class to fulfill you SQ requirement. This class is a real headache!
He is a funny professor and gives major "dad" vibes. The class itself was okay, there was a heavy online element that I didn't like very much but some people did. It felt like a lot of work because you would have different assignments during recitation and the lecture homework and it is easy to fall behind. Good professor and intro bio class.
The class itself was not bad but not great. That being said, it was basically a statistics class where you had to use excel for every lab and assignment. I am terrible at excel except for making graphs so I skipped a few assignments. The tests are all repeat questions from the self check quizzes for each module so that made testing easy.
This class is beyond easy if you have any basic understanding of biology at all. The only annoying part is that you have to attend lectures because of iclicker, and its a good chunk of your grade. The "labs" were 10 minute VR sessions that you got 100% automatically. Take this class for your lab science credit!
BIO 100 was a fairly simple class, the professor said he'd drop your lowest exam grade, which is really nice. Attendance was mandatory and monitored through iclciker but prof bang allowed students to attend remotely if they weren't able to make it physically to class, overall it's an good SQ to take if you struggle with science.
Very clear on grading, available outside class.
BIO 100 is one of the easiest classes you'll take. It's basically a pre-Bio class. Professor Bang is chill; much of the work is done through an e-book. There's some cool VR sessions you have to go to which could be inconvenient at time but are worth it imo. There's 5 exams including the OPTIONAL final exam. Do good on your 4 exams and avoid final.
Lectures and recitations are boring but you need to pay close attention because he will turn on the iClicker on short notice. Exams aren't too hard, but you can't go into them without studying. Dr. Bang has a good honors contract if you need one, you just go to 5 SOLS lectures of any topic and write a report; he doesn't grade them very tough.
Boring lectures and he posts the slides. I studied really hard on the posted slides and didn't pay much attention during the lectures and did fine. Make sure you do all the homework and go to the VR Labs and your grade will be pretty set.
Bang definitely enjoys teaching Bio, but honestly the general class structure is relatively uninspiring. For those looking to take an easy SQ science, this definitely works, but for those who want to genuinely learn about bio, probably take another class, even if it is more challenging. Tests are easy (use TA study sessions), go to class check-ins.
Professor Bang was great. Very responsive to emails and will help you out. Easy 100 level science for general credit. You HAVE to keep up with the deadlines, but if you do you'll be just fine. I thought the online Dreamscape Lab Experience was really fun! Kind of like learning biology through a computer game. Recommend!
This class was super fun! I always had a blast with the labs and because the labs can be turned in multiple times it was nice to be able to go back and see what I didn't understand or missed. Great course set up and everything about this class was super engaging.
Course work is almost entirely based off of participation and not grade, you could probably get a 50% on all tests and pass with a B+. That being said, expect to spend 6-10+ hours depending on the module work. You never talk to the professor for the entire course, it is all automated. No papers, just course work and exams per week.
This is my first time rating any professor but I felt obligated to give this professor a shoutout because the work in this class is so easy to learn, digestible and interesting and I passed with an A+. He's reasonable, and responds fast just watch the deadlines and you'll be fine
AMAZING CLASS AND PROFESSOR, absolutely 110% recommend.
Dr. Bang is the best! The best BIO teacher out there! Make sure you attend the recitations and complete all your VR labs. I guarantee that you will pass this class with an A if you do this. On top of that, there are loads of extra credit opportunities, and you can drop your lowest exam score by taking the cumulative exam at the end of the semester!
This course in general is pretty easy, and the professor didn't make it any HARDER or EASIER. Note that he uses iClicker for mandatory participation. Quizzes and Exams are pretty easy and not weighed that hard. I would take this class again.
I had Dr. Bang for BIO100, which is a class tailored to simpletons. He is so overqualified that I have a theory he lost a bet with another professor and that's why he teaches this class. He handles teaching such a stupid class like a champ though and throws in dad jokes when he can. Plus, he's got an awesome accent.
I took his class for credit even though I am a business major but I loved him! There is a lecture and a lab but both are pretty easy. The subject does have a lot of vocab but Professor Bang and his TA's help prepare you for the exams. Also be prepared for really funny dad jokes. He also let me submit late work with full credit.
he is a great professor that knows his material well. He does dad jokes throughout the semester which keeps it entertaining. There is a decent amount of outside work to complete but you have plenty of time to do. There is a lot of extra credit oppurtunties as well.
Get this man a medal. He's probably a genius, but he's teaching this wildly simple class. He uses dad jokes in his lectures so you know he's gonna be good. Just be where you need to be, get those CogBooks done early, and don't forget to schedule your VR lab. Dr. Bang made this class easier than it already was. Take this guy.
Professor Bang was nice, but the course was tedious and boring. The exams were not difficult as long as you prepared and study. The recitations were dull, while the VR labs were enjoyable, but overall, participation in the class mattered, whether through iClicker, lab quizzes, lab work, etc. It was an easy science class, but it was boring for me.
Class is very easy to get an A+ in, I finished with above 100% without really trying. Some of the cogbooks readings took a long time so do them in advance, or all in one night doesn't matter. So much extra credit and grade boosting class average was like 85%. Prof is also very knowledgeable and passionate so his lectures were fun to attend.
One of the easiest classes I've taken, but there's a lot of readings to get through. The online labs are super easy, felt like a video game. And lab quizzes can be retaken, so impossible to not get 100%. The module quizzes were also pretty easy. Definitely recommend!
Professor Bang is amazing and so dedicated to education. His class is so fun and interesting with a VR style of lab work. As long as you do your readings, participate in yellowdig, and review the labs you will pass the class easily. There are quizzes every week but if you complete the readings they are a breeze. Highly recommend!!
Professor Bang's BIO100 class is a manageable and engaging experience. The VR labs and dad jokes make it fun, while the frequent assessments and grade-boosting opportunities ensure learning. Unstuck study and completing readings early make this class a breeze.
Although he is a nice guy, his lectures are very hard to pay attention too. He mumbles and is hard to understand. The review guides/pretexts do not correlate with the actual test. I studied for hours before an exam and was very confident in the material just to find out none of it was on the exam. Very disappointed.
This professor is very hard to pay attention to in lectures. He talks so much and the slides just have words dumped onto them as if we already understand the concepts. He made weekly readings mandatory which is on top of weekly assignments, the dreamscape vr, and the excel workbook and quiz for bio lab.
Practice Exam was nothing like the actual exam along with the study guide.
Bang was pretty good...although lectures were tough as he talks quietly and kind of throws info at you. He is very nice and easy to work with, but you mostly work with the TAs. As long as you have a good TA and do the cogbooks, you will pass.
Although the class is challenging, the professors and TA are always willing to help! He always makes extra resources for the students like study guides, practice quizzes, and records all lectures.
Dr Bang was great! It's a challenging class but he always made sure to cover everything that was on the exam during lecture so no surprises. He's also a really nice guy and always willing to help outside of class.
Honestly, such a great professor and very understandable. We use iclicker for both lectures and recitation but if you have over 75% on iclicker, he will count it as 100%. I honestly thought this bio course was easy mostly cause I think bio is easy in general but if you need an elective or a science course for your major take this class with him.
This class was definitely an 'easy A.' I wish most of ASU online classes were formatted this way. It was easy to follow along and take notes. Quizzes were quick and easy. The 'lab' portion could use some technical maintenance, but manageable. Overall, I would take him again for another class if needed.
Very well structured class. It is a lot of reading and quizzes/tests but the material isn't super difficult. Pretty easy class for a science credit and this is a good guy to take it with.
Overall an easy science class. The material was presented clearly, and the assignments (weekly quiz that was weighted heavily and discussion post) were fairly easy. There was a lot of reading and best of all, no midterm exam or final exam!
He is an incredibly sweet man who I can tell genuinely wants his students to succeed. He is very soft spoken so sometimes it's hard to follow along in his class, but if you go to him for help he will help you- no questions asked. The course is moderately difficult but it is not hard to do well if you utilize him and his reading material.
I really liked him! There are some homework assignments but you get multiple attempts, and a lot of them are optional for extra credit. There is also optional reading outside of class. the exams are hard, but studying the practice exams and looking over past homework and quizzes helps a lot.
He's super sweet and you can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. However, it was hard to hear him during lecture, he is very soft spoken. Sit towards the front. His practice quizzes were pretty similar to the exams, so that was nice.
Probably the easiest class you can do for the science requirement, but still tedious/boring for someone who is not very interested in science. Despite my personal issues with the content, Bang is a sweet professor who is passionate about his field. Take detailed notes on the lectures for the exams, as the questions can get specific.
he was kinda bangin ig
Bang is a sweet professor, and honestly, I could tell he loves Biology, but sometimes his teaching did not help me improve. He would rush through the slides and sometimes fail to explain them. Overall, he is an amazing professor; I think he could improve his teaching a bit. However, the exams were extremely easy, so he is doing something right!
I can actually understand this guy well, just sit closer to the front and you'll be fine. You can tell he really cares about this subject and he's a fun guy! The digit lessons are boring and unhelpful in my opinion, but exam reviews and lectures are very helpful, if you follow them and do okay on tests it's an easy A.
Prof. Bang was very kind and patient with me, shows up to his office hours and even extended office hours past his regular time to assist with students if they asked. The class itself is a very difficult "weed-out" class that was experiencing a professor transition halfway through the semester. I wish he had stayed the whole semester.
he's a good prof, teaches well, and explains well. go to his office hours, he's a funny person.
Bang is great. Pay attention during lectures, do all the assignments, and go to office hours if you need help. That's all you need to succeed in this class. He really is a kind person. Do not be intimidated to ask questions.
