Prof. Allen takes his time with grading. Tomorrow is the last day and there are still not grades from assignments 3 weeks ago. Make sure to start the projects as early into the term possible. They take a lot of time to do. The discussions made art fun and started a lot of conversations. Didn't hear from the professor at all in the course.
He is a good lecturer and gives you your qualified grade. His quizzes and exams are easy. He gave some project which was pretty cool . I took the online class and I made an A in it. He is an easy going lecturer. I would recommend people to take him if you want to learn and make a good grade.
Amazing Professor! He does assign lots of reading from the textbook. The total workload for my entire Spring online semester were 14 easy discussions based on textbook reading, 4 exams total (open book), 2 reflection essays, 1 personal artwork project, 1 museum visit and 1 power point project! I wish all my professors were like Professor Allen!
I took his online Art Appreciation class, but he was unlike other professors for online classes in that he actually engages with his students. He made it feel much more welcoming and personal. He actually wants you to earn a good grade. He also doesn't grade on memorization (e.g. not a lot of tests), which was awesome. Great course, great prof.
I took his online class. It was pretty easy. There was a discussion each week on assigned chapters. All you have to do it skim the reading and post a response. You respond, you get a 100 for the discussion. Tests were open book, so it was farely easy but he answers were not in your face you you actually need to read; answers are open ended.
Great Professor, Lots of reading but very informative. Just do the work and you will do great! Textbook a must!
The class by nature is a very hard class and is not for the faint of heart. I would not recommend you take this course if you are an arts major. There was not much direction on what exactly to study for tests. I found the tests to cover a lot. I did several meeting with the professor and he was always very helpful. Great professor, hard class.
I took this class online. I dropped it Monday with 4 weeks remaining, too time consuming with 3 other classes. There were 18 quizzes, 5 exams, 16 sets of practice questions, 49 module sections, 16 homework assignments, 15 labs, 2 lab practicals covering 20 chapters. Quizzes, Homework, and labs at home & Lab Practicals & Exams in testing center.
Took him over a summer session this last summer and had to drop because he required you spend a minimum of 4+ hours/day on his class only. Outrageously and unreasonably difficult. I get that it's a science class, but no other science classes at Lone Star have been THAT hard and THAT much. Do not take him.
This was a tough class and time consuming, but that is what I expected in an online course. The instructor was more than willing to meet with me and provide help with the material. If I had any problems he would do his best to help me with my assignments and chapters I struggled with. Don't take an online class if you don't have time for it.
Dr. Allen is very helpful. His class is tough, but if you put in the work, you can ace this course (BIOL2404). Please note that Dr. Allen is a great professor, but the class is INTENSE. I would definitely recommend this class and Dr Allen!
I took this class online, there are 14 discuss posts 1 every week through the semester and 4 tests. I figured that was the entire class until the last three weeks of the class I noticed 3 HUGE assignments that weren't spoken about until the week before due. They included an 18 slide power point, a single spaced two paged paper and a major art work
I didnt know how much I loved learning about microbiology until I took Dr. Allens class. You definitely have to put in a lot of time to learn the material and comprehend it (especially for exams). This is not a blow off class whatsoever. Dr. Allen is very accessible outside of class, very willing to help and is very nice/respectful.
Labs are very interesting and fun, in my opinion. They also help you with lecture material which ends up on the exams. Put in the effort and time, and you will do fine. Dr. Allen very accessible and willing to help.
Dr. Allen really needs to work on his teaching methods. Condescending personality. I noticed he favor certain students in the class. Run while you can.
Professor Allen really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Microbiology is a hard course but he really tries to get you to understand the material. 10 very easy quizzes once a week 5 lecture tests and 2 lab practical and online Pearson homework. I definitely recommend him over any other micro professor
I took Dr. Allen for Micro. The content in Micro is hard, but Dr. Allen helped bring it to life and was always willing to help me grasp the lesson. From consultations outside class, to tutoring, he helped me pass with an A. He's got a funny sense of humor, too. Would take again except I don't need to because I passed. He's your best bet for Micro!
He really cares for his students grades and really wants you to learn. A lot of people say his class is hard and honestly its not an "easy" class, You really work for your grade but he provides you with what you need to pass. I really learned to love microbiology. He is also accessible any time to assess where you are during the semester.
Medical Microbiology has been by far the toughest class to take. Despite this course being really tough, all of the information that learned will be used in the long run. Dr. Allen makes the effort to help each student - he treats us all equally. He is extremely knowledgeable, organized, and dedicated. Not a prof to take for an "easy A."
Microbiology is a hard class, if you don't study you won't pass. Dr. Allen is clear in his expectations and grading scale. He is readily available outside of class if needed. He is passionate, funny, & truly wants you to pass his class. I've never met anyone so excited about E. Coli! Most interesting labs of any science class I've taken.
He's a passionate professor, willing to work with you to make sure you really understand the material and help push you. Available outside of class for face-to-face and web counseling. Really cares for his students' wellbeing.
Professor Allen was pretty good. Initially I thought the course was going to be harded than I thought because he made it seem really difficult, but if you just do the work on time, you will be fine. He gives extra credit sometimes nd he is pretty easy to get in contact with. Do the work, get an A. Easy.
Professor Allen did an excellent job of explaining concepts in Biology. He did a good job of giving resources of what to study for exams. Overall a good professor.
Professor Allen is a solid choice for an online environment. You will not be left wondering about due dates and other requirements, he has great communication skills. With notice, he is willing to be flexible occasionally. I would suggest avoiding at home testing and visiting an assessment center to avoid breaking at home testing rules.
Professor allen was very helpful throughout the course inside and outside of office hours. He was always making sure we knew the deadlines. The course requires more time and effort than in class course. If you do not have time to study or devote the class you shouldn't be taking it. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
Professor Allen is a great biology professor. He is always accessible and really cares about his students. He hosts online review sessions and is always willing to help out his students. He is very professional and serious about his job and he will do everything he can to help you out. Highly recommend.
Good summer online class, he made it easy and made it clear what needed to be done to pass.
Dr Allen presented the class requirements clearly & concisely, including the completion expectations. I found the professor to be very responsive to questions via email and the Remind application. I would definitely recommend taking this class for a science requirement and Dr. Allen.
Dr. Allen lays it all out for you to succeed. Nothing was too difficult if you just do the assignments and read the power points. You have to have discipline if you are going to take his online class. Other than that I really enjoyed this class. I'm a bit OCD so the fact that he was so organized helped the class go smoothly.
This class was filled with lots of tests but also lots of homework which was an equal balance. The professor was very responsive and helped if needed. The course was a lot of work but straight forward and easy to get the hang of. I learned a lot and really respected the professors content focus.
Great Professor with clear instructions with what he wants for you to get out of the class, very organized and helpful. Would 100% recommend this class.
I would recommend his class to everyone. His instructions are very clear. awesome professor.
Makes you work for your grade, test's are monitored by lockdown browser and webcam so no cheating can occur. Lots of reading but gives good feedback and is always there if you have questions
He's pretty clear cut. Do your work! On time! But he seems understanding if things happen. Communication is key.
This is a great professor. He gives lots of feedback and hes fair. I would take this class again if I have to.
For a short summer online course, Prof. Allen made it nice and simple. The due dates were set and he sends reminders during the week what is due the next couple of days. The work was not bad, but for some of he chapters you will need to read and some you can just use the power points her provides. Over-all good course and I would take him again.
He sticks to the syllabus and is always accessible using the Remind app. Took summer session 2 so there was a lot of homework and tests. He does not give extensions or a chance to make up missed assignments. Utilize his chapter outlines and the my person study tools and you will be fine.
His instructions and policy were clear from the very beginning. Just do the assignments on time, and review the slides before exams and you will be fine.
6 week course, syllabus was followed for everything. 12 chapters in total and 4 homework assignments for every chapter. Every two chapters there was an exam. Total of 6 exams for lecture and two for lab. As long as you turn everything in on time and study for test by following the PowerPoint outline youll be ok. No make up work!
It was overall a good class, just a lot of work. Don't think you can just get by without checking this class everyday or knowing your syllabus. Very very Exam heavy.
Medical Microbiology is an extremely difficult class that requires a lot of time. Prof. Allen gives his students every resource they need for success and will host review sessions outside of class time to help you pass. The tests are exactly like the textbook, so make sure to read A LOT.
6 week intensive course, integrated learning modules, labs, and chapter exams, professor maintains communication throughout course to keep students on task
Best professor I've ever taken. Way overqualified but humble. He truely cares about his class and makes a genuine effort to connect with his class. He's also funny and laid back. Its not an easy class, but Dr. Allen makes it fun and interesting. He uses very helpful teaching strategies that my other professors have never used
Best professor I have, I take his Biology class online. the assignments are easy, it is just a lot of reading . He is very helpful. you can contact him anytime.
Honestly, not an easy course, but Dr. Allen makes it possible & enjoyable. His accessibility is fantastic & is willing to work with you--just communicate. Offers a great variety of learning methods, lecture handouts, & exam reviews that literally save your life. Only way to fail this class is if you don't attend & complete neglect the material.
Professor Allen is easily accessible at all times. He gives good feedback after tests when going over your wrong answers. His study guides are helpful so make sure to go over them thoroughly because when I did I received a good grade. He definitely makes you work for the grade. His deadlines are firm as well. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Extremely hard
Dr. Allen is highly communicative and responsive. His class demands much time, and the subject is difficult for me. This is not an easy class, expect to work for a decent grade. The format of the class is simple though, and expectations are clearly laid out. I would take his class again, and would be prepared to put in the time and effort!
Dr. Allen is straight forward in his method of teaching, our lab class is interesting and I wouldn't like to miss a day, because you are doing in the lab will be on the written exams. He gives study guides so you won't waste time focusing reading on the not so necessary areas in the book. I love his class, you will surely learn a lot.
Most of the grades in this class come from tests, but professor Allen is very clear on what to study for each test and knowing the mastering concepts will make you succeed. Easy to communicate with through remind app, and always willing to help if any questions.
Dr. Allen was an amazing professor! He cares for his students and it shows, he wants everyone to pass and makes sure everyone understands the material. Microbiology is a hard course but Dr. Allen definitely made it interesting and more easier with the effort he puts in into teaching. Take him for microbiology!!!!
Dr. Allen is a great professor! This course is hard but as long as you study you should be fine. His reviews are very helpful for the exams. There are 5 exams, 11 quizzes, and Pearson homework. He makes lecture Fun! He will help you in any way and make time for you! You should definitely take him!
Dr. Allen helps make the material more manageable and helps students in any way he can.
Very good professor! I would definitely take Dr. Allen again if I had to. I really enjoyed his class. Do the reviews he gives before exams! They are extremely helpful. Easily accessible and very responsive to messages. He really wants you to pass with an A but will help you in anyway he can to understand and pass his class. Take him!
Very caring professor, however he doesnt lecture. Make the class basically teach itself, which isnt helpful because sometime students miss information & you will miss the question on the test. Very respectful and grades test right away.
He goes out of his way to assure we are understanding the material and are prepared for exams. By far the best science instuctor I've taken thus far!!
One of the best professors I have ever had! I learned great ways to learn and retain information for this course and just in general. Professor loves what he teaches and transfers the same idea to his students. He is caring and is on top of your work, grades and attendance. He is always available to help you inside and outside class.
This was a tough online class, but he was very clear and helped with whatever was not understood. Lots of homework, but again, he made sure resources were given to help a student master each concept.
I was nervous about taking this class but Dr. Allen made it one of the most interesting and fun classes. He wants you to fully understand the material and always sets up times for you to go talk to him.
Dr. Allen is a phenomenal professor! I would take every class he offered if I could. The material is difficult but Dr. Allen makes it fun and easier to learn. The textbooks are a must have. Take Dr. Allen and put in effort and you will do awesome in this class!
Honestly, one of the best professors I've taken. I was pretty scared heading into medical microbiology and he takes the time to create different ways for everyone to learn the material. Makes it clear what he really wants you to know and take from chapters, creates an engaging classroom atmosphere, and you can tell he does care about your success.
Prof. Allen is an excellent teacher that cares about his students and their progress. There is a lot to learn in this class and for students that are looking to get into nursing school; everything you learn in this class, you will see again further on in life should you choose to stay in the medical field.
I had taken this class as a pre-req that I needed and I have to say if you are looking for a class to actually learn and get a good understanding, especially when it comes to a hard course I say choose him. Very caring professor. Alot of labs Study chapter and lab units before class Overall good professor thanks professor Allen
Great professor! He focused a lot on lab more than lecture though so you really have to study the lectures on your own outside of class in order to pass the test. if you get a 70 or less on your lectures you're gonna have to meet with him outside of class to talk about your test. The class itself is hard but if you work hard enough you'll get by.
Great professor. REally cares about his students and puts in the extra work to help you pass. Gives extra credit.
Uses different teaching techniques to help each student understand and participate. Quizzes over labs each Monday, study the lab manual for them. Exam reviews & tables in the book are helpful for exams, straightforward questions in the exam. Helps students outside of class, if help needed. Overall, great professor. 5 exams+final, 2 practicals, HW.
Dr. Allen is the best science teacher Ive had in a while. He introduce material in a nice pace. Even with 3 other classes to worry about I didnt feel like I was suffocating with the amount of info I was given. Exams are what In the outline he provides ( multiple choice). 2 lap practicals easy slide shows with bonus. No boring lecture PowerPoints
Great Teacher. Attend class and youll pass
Dr. Allen is overall very helpful and organized. I took his online course which is mostly done through McGraw-Hill Connect. The course mainly consists of simple participation work, however the test can be challenging. Dr. Allen is great at what he does but you have to be willing to put in time and effort in order to succeed in this class.
Dr Allen is a very thorough professor. He gives you lots of resources via handouts, the textbook, and online. He gives great review sheets. If you do not review your notes outside of class it will be very difficult to pass. He will meet with you in office hours or at the Science hotspot downstairs in a group. Take advantage of all he offers.
All tests will have clear reviews. A lot of reading from the textbook. He does offer extra credit. There are mastering homework on pearson. He does really want you to pass with an A. Very good/caring teacher. Does make you work for your grade.
Dr. Allen knows what he's talking about. Yes the material and lectures are tough but he will explain thoroughly and in detail everything so you have a better understanding of it by the time you leave. he uses different teaching methods that will get the class more involved. Great teacher
Great professor!
Dr. Allen is a great professor. He helps students to the best of his ability. I would definitely recommend his class to others.
Dr. Allen's a professor that pushes you to do your best. If you aren't staying up to date with your work, you will fall behind. Despite this, if you study well, take notes, and watch the videos provided, the class WILL be fun and easy. Dr. Allen stays in constant touch with you if you need any help. Taking this class made me realize I love Biology.
Dr. Allen has been so far one of my favorite professors yet. He is caring and will go out of his way to make sure you will succeed, all you have to do is ask. You will have weekly assignments and labs, but they arent bad if you stay on top of them. You will have to read the textbook in his class. I highly recommend on taking Biology w/ Dr. Allen.
He invest his time with students and always accessible to the students.
Caring teacher, willing to help if he can. VERY tough class. Lots of technical science-homework/labs/exams. NOT a class for science majors, but curriculum not presented that way. It seemed more like an AP/Honors science then the basic biology. Good teacher but whole class (whats left) didn't do well. Had to give extra at the end of the semester.
The class in general was hard and covers a lot of information. He offers help if needed, explained from the first day that this was a difficult class and requires a lot of time and he was very upfront about the course. Overall a great professor but its a very difficult class.
Nice teacher but didn't understand the material the way he presented it. Taught myself for the most part just because of how confused he made me. He cares but wants you to learn the way he teaches, and not how YOU learn. LOTS of work. Don't take if you have other classes, a job, or both. There are just not enough hours in the day with this class.
Hard class. DON'T take this class. You might pass with a C if you spend every spare minute studying and doing all the work assigned. Maybe. You have been warned!! Take at your own risk.
I did not like only having Connect assignments because it wasn't enough variation in the learning process.
Dr. Allen is the most caring professor i have ever came across in my college career. I took him online but unfortunately had to drop the class due to personal reasons. He is not easy by any means, you will have to work for your grade. He keeps you updated through Remind Text as well as, meet with you in person or via WebEx. I would retake him!
Dr. Allen is very well organized very fair in grading, gives you the exact lessons in the chapters to study over, gives extra credit. His lectures aren't boring powerpoints they're very engaging so to the people complaining they really didn't want to be there in the first place. He also drops the lowest test grade. Don't hesitate to take him.
There's no extra credit. The only type of grades is the Mc Graw Hill and the Tests. Tests are hard. They are Webcam and Browser Lockdown. This was fine for me (the lockdown browser), but don't take this if you don't have space to be quiet or have children. The webcam isn't fair. Tests 50+ questions 2 hr. The altern. test is still 50+ but 30 min.
Professor Allen is a great professor who values his time and help. He gives good feedback and gives out help when needed. Although, if you have multiple jobs, children, and or looking for an easy class, this is not the class to be in. You have to study a lot in order to pass the exams.
Dr. Allen was a good professor. All of the work is assigned through modules so if you don't like teaching yourself or watching videos, I don't suggest taking this class. If you need help he is willing to schedule an appointment with you and it is helpful. All I have to say is good luck if you are taking this class!
You won't need the book as he bases his tests off of his lecture notes. He is very approachable & willing to meeting/work with you outside of class hours. Uses a variety of technology to encourage student participation. You will NEED to study/review info before each lab & tests as the tests are tough, but fair. I would definitely recommend.
This professor made this online course very organized. LOTS of reading from the textbook!!!! Online labs are easy and fun. Overall, very good professor. He wants to see you succeed and will help with any questions.
Prof. Allen most definitely shows his concern for his students. Constant checking in, making sure the assignments and topic is understood. The extra lectures to cover the lessons. His lessons are easy to understand and the virtual labs are pretty cool too. I most definitely loved this course. And would most definitely work with the professor again!
Dr. Allen is a great Professor. This was my first online science class .Be ready for lots of online assignments for each chapter, but they are easy. Study for test with lectures he provides. Video Lectures are very helpful. Virtual labs were fun; he really cares about his students and communicates very well. Great Professor!
Your safety is his number one concern in the lab. He is genuinely motivated to aid in your success in the class however you will have to study to get the grade you want. He is busy but makes a point to be available any time you need him. Would definitely take any classes he is teaching!!
Dr. Allen was one of the best teacher's that had at University Park. He is very helpful and understanding when it came towards to his students. The material wasn't hard to understand, but you need to study a lot for this class to be able to pass. I loved his class and I appreciated being part of it because I gained so much new knowledge and info.
A lot of watching videos and note taking but I did like using the circle in app which help you get rewards. Professor is available and communicate well.
Micro is a hard class, but Dr. Allen makes it ok. I was nervous about taking his class because he is very strict about some things, but he is helpful and doesn't mind explaining concepts until you fully understand. Labs are important and he is very careful so no one gets hurt or infected. Do your work and you will pass. Not for the lazy
This course was originally in person but was moved to fully online due to COVID-19. In this class you need to set a schedule for yourself as his syllabus is set like a clock and you do not want to miss deadlines. There is room for several "free points" if you do your work. His exams are not difficult if you use the reviews and pull from the book .
I couldn't be any happier with this course! It uses an online system for all the learning, labs, and tests. There are a total of 6 exams, each has 50 mcq to answer in 2 hours. It never took me more than 30 mins to get an A+. The labs are interactive, easy and fun! And Dr. Allen is excellent! The course can be time consuming. But just do your work!
Great Professor. Micro overall is a hard course but Dr. Allen made it interesting and not boring. Test are fair, requires a lot of preparation/studying but the guides he provides are helpful. Labs are fun! He is always making sure you understand what you are doing. Read your textbook and labs before going to class.
Great Professor, I have been taking so many online classes in college. I would have to say that Dr. Allen is the best professor to take an online class with. The course materials are well organized. He always checks on students to ensure students are doing good with the assignments and the exams. I would definately take his class again.
Take this class by itself or with one other class only. There's a lot of information in each chapter and you have to make sure to study study study to pass the test. Professor Allen stays on top of his students via RemindMe and offers many opportunities for help/studying.
Dr. Allen is a great and very organized professor. He always offers help to make sure his students are on track. PowerPoints and textbook are very helpful, so be ready to study!! He definitely wants his students to succeed. Overall, I would recommend.
Professor Allen gives you just two chances for extra credit. There is a lot of reading, which he does some powerpoints and lectures videos. He gives you a study guide which I have a love/hate relationship with it, not everything is there. Grades are up right away. He does look for ways to help his students. Overall a good experienced.
I took the online version of his class and honestly he could not have been more squared away. He is very organized and uses smartbook and virtual labs that are actually kinda fun. Yeah there is a little bit of work attached to this class, because everything has a prerequisite, but you'll end up learning a lot. I would recommend him to others.
Microbiology is a difficult course but taking Dr. Allen was helpful because he cares for his students and is very organized with the criteria. This allows his students to perform well in BIOL2420. He offers a lot of help and is always available to his students. Go to class and do your work and you will pass.
This class ask a lot of your personal time as you have to cover a lot of material . He does his best to help his students succeed as long as you try your best. He is very organized, has study guides, recorded lectures, and power points to follow. Over all great teacher definitely would take him again.
Dr. Allen is a very good professor he is very good at explaining and giving real-world examples of what he teaches. Microbiology is already a very difficult subject but Dr. Allen test you exactly over what he teaches you. You must be committed and put in the time and effort in this class.
Great Teacher, I recommend him. Medical Microbiology is not easy, so get ready to do work. Listen, take notes, ask for help in class or email him, labs are fun, lectures can get long but wont put you to sleep. There is about 5 exams, 2 practicals, Mastering Hw, Group-Assignments, Monday quizzes, extra-credit and useful information provided.
Absolutely recommend Dr. Allen .Microbiology is a very tough course, but he does his best to help you understand. His teaching method is student led, this makes lecture and lab fun. Please listen during lecture, after all he makes the exams. Do not be afraid to ask for help, he wants you to succeed.
Great teacher.
Great Professor. Online Class. Clear grading. Class is easy to follow. Responds quickly to emails. Always ready and willing to help students. Cares about student progress, so expect to be contacted if you fall behind. Assignments due weekly or bi-weekly depending on how long the chapters are. Tests are based on key terms and key concepts.
Dr. Allen is very knowledgeable in the field that he is teaching. He goes out of his way to present different career options that students would have in the medical field. He is very organized when it comes to lecture and lab. I would definitely recommend Dr. Allen as a microbiology professor to everyone.
Dr. Allen is very involved and gives continuous opportunity to communicate any concerns or ask questions throughout the course. The course load is heavy, but I took the course online, so therefore that was expected. Rating solely on the Professor, Dr. Allen was great and I would take him again, probably for an in seat class next time.
Professor Allen is a great professor. Lots of homework. All the homework is on connect. His tests require a Webcheck+lockdown browser. If you study, you will do good in class. If you want to learn about biology, take him!
Took his class online, a lot of self study going over the power points for each chapter. Assignments are easy, as well labs were easy to do. For each online assignment theres three videos usually that go over the material that you did. Make sure to study over the material for the exams, always an exam for every two chapters will need to be monitor
Great professor, lab quizzes every week, 5 lecture tests, 2 lab exams, overall if you read the textbook you should get an A. Lab is easy and straightforward but lecture requires more dedication.
Lots of information to study for tests.
dr allen is great, available to discuss any topics you arent familiar with or to go over a test you may not have done well on. wants his students to succeed and will sometimes offer extra credit if he can. this class was difficult because there is A LOT of material to learn, but if you put in the effort and set aside time to study youll be fine!
You will have to read a lot to pass the Exams.
His class is hard, but he is always there if you ned help
Dr. Allen is a really caring professor and will make sure that you understand the material, but you have to show up to class to be able to understand that. YOU HAVE TO READ BEFORE CLASS, there is no way around that. The class is doable but it is very time consuming. He really makes you work for your grade so just stay with the syllabus!
Dr. Allen was a great professor and put out a ton of material to help all of his students. He replies to questions very fast and is genuinely caring.
A great teacher, very resourceful, available outside of class and always organized. Difficult class, homework and test heavy. Studying is very crucial for you to pass his tests. Stay on top of work and make sure you know your content.
Dr. Allen is by far one of the most organized professor that I have taken. He has a clear syllabus. This class itself is hard, he doesn't make the class the material makes it hard, but the labs are fun and very educational, he gives reviews for test, and labs are pretty easy if you actually pay attention during lab, you do need the reading material
You definitely need to read the required textbook/material in order to properly complete the homework for the class, as well as to be ready for the exams. There was more exams than I'm used to for courses (6 total), and quizzes once a week or every other week. He's very clear and thorough about his expectations/requirements for the class to pass.
Professor Allen is really nice and responds to your question immediately wherever you need. He also reminds you every week about your assignments and what you need to do to improve your grade. However, assignments are a lot ( assignments and labs), quizzes every 2 weeks. So be ready if you want to take his class.
Hes a great professor you and wants you to pass just have to be willing to put in the work
I got a C because I did procrastinate a lot due to work, if you work and have more classes, it might be hard. The professor does care enough to message you directly over your grades and is willing to go over things with you. He schedules reviews as well, so he cares a great deal. 5 to 20 question assigmemts, 1 quiz, few easy online labs all weekly.
Took bio for non major online. Most of the work is on connect and you do need to study for the test. There's no real study guide for the test but you can use the reading guides as one.
Awesome teacher, knows his stuff, but this is a hard class no doubt about it, however Dr. Allen tries to prep you best he can for the assignments and does a pretty good job at it. Listens to your questions and helps you understand as well as being available outside of class to help anyway he can.
Dr. Allen was overall a really good professor for face-to-face classes. I had an A in his face to face but when classes got moved online due to the Corona Virus my grade dropped big time. Although he cares greatly in face to face classes and puts a lot of work into providing lecture to students that would help, going online made things much harder.
Great Professor because he really got back to you quickly and also did his best to set up meetings if needed for tutoring. Class was kinda had but if you read and study then you should be fine.
Professor Allen is AWesome!! He reaches out to students on a one on one basis through a texting app. He has reviews, Webex sessions, and clear instructions. He is very understanding and helpful. He wants his students to succeed and learn from the course.
Dr. Allen is a great choice for your biology credit. He's super accessible, really cares about everyone in his class doing well and getting their work in on time. I took the summer online class and it was a little fast paced for my liking, however still a great class to take.
When I needed help when I started failing I reached out to him and he gave me great advice on how to improve. He also specified that procrastination will lead to failure so basically saying that skipping class will make you fail. He also had a clear way on how he was going to grade us in the syllbus.
When I needed help when I started failing I reached out to him and he gave me great advice on how to improve my way of doing my work. He also specified that procrastination will lead to failure so he was saying that skipping class will make us fail. He gave us stright away how he would grading us in the syllbus so it was clear.
In the class that I was taking for him he had us do a lot of reading. The course that we were taking was heavily focused on the book and we had to read a lot to get the material. He also had a lot of lectures for each chapther so it was a summary of each part of the chapter. He is also giving us extra credit to help us with our grades.
You have to get ready to read if you are taking this class online. Most of this course is working and reading the textbook. To help with this he gives you great pre-recorded lectures on each section of each chapter. He also gives you a clear view of how he is grading and how his grading works in his syllabus.
I absolutely loved Professor Allen's class, and I'm fully mean it. He's very attentive and genuinely cares about his students' success. He really takes into account our feedback and wants us to succeed. You do need to participate- you won't pass if you don't put the effort in. The textbook and assignments really did help prepare us for exams.
I think professor Allen is a good professor. If you don't have a lot of time and not willing to work hard, I would not suggest you take this class during the summer. It's 4 months worth of work in 6 weeks. Overall , professor Allen was very detailed and accessible he also provided very good notes. Just do the work, read his notes .
I took this class this summer and there were 5 exams and 1 final. The homework for each chapter was connect learn smarts, homework, quiz and labs. What I liked about this course was that he did a good job to give us things we need for each chapter including video lectures/power points. It is a lot of work but it makes you better prepared for tests
Easy A if you work for it! He communicates daily with expectations and due dates of upcoming assignments and tests. Very time consuming class, but as long as you do the readings and assignments you will get a good grade. Lab quizzes are tough, but manageable. He does a good job outlining the class to set you up for success. Would take him again
I think if you do your homework and study for your tests. Then you should do well
Gives good advice and feed back. Very easy to approach.
Best advice he gave me was: if you are ready to teach the subject, you are ready to take the exam and pass.
I received daily reminders about date line assignments
I had a great experience in this online class. It was hard and heavy but the professor was always accessible and willing to help at all times. Helped me with improving my exam scores by guiding me with a personalized study plan that we created together to target my weak areas of study.
Hes a great professor. If you fail its your own fault. Sends lots of reminder texts and emails so you dont fall behind on your assignments. Holds meeting and is available most hours of the day for response. Clear grading and access to resources including him for the tests. Holds one on one and group meetings.
I took this class in summer 2020 online. The class schedule is very well outlined. He sends tons of reminders about assignments coming due which could be annoying at times but overall very helpful. He will respond to any questions fairly quickly. The class course was easy in my opinion. A lot of HW but its easy just tedious.
The class is pretty easy just a lot of small stuff to do. Stay on track and you'll make an easy A. Will answer any questions in decent amount of time.
I took bio as a summer course and it was a very heavy course to take. Dr. Allen is more of a handson profferesor and is constantly sending daily reminders which are very helpful! This class is very book work heavy so buying the book is a must. The test questions are fairly tricky in my opinion.
Amazing professor helped me when I faced issues from corona such as wifi issues. Amazing structure with the text message reminders. You will never forget about any assignment!
Dr. Allen is really great about providing feedback, send updates daily on assignments and due dates via Remind. I would definitely recommend.
Great about providing feedback, send updates daily on assignments and due dates via Remind. I would definitely recommend.
Provides feedback, offers support and face to face time via Webex and sends out assignment due dates via Remind which is super helpful.
Dr. Allen was a great professor, not gonna lie the class is a lot of work but if you put the effort in he will help get you through it!
Great Professor who will help you out if you put in the work!
Good at keeping in contact even being an online class!
Good at keeping in contact!
Available for help when you need him!
Took is as an online month long summer class all on one online textbook program. Work can be kind of a pain to do but isn't hard didn't take as long as he said it would, super lucky I got to take it during COVID. Probably much easier online than it would be in person. Very accessible, he gives extensions w/ reason
Really understanding, good bit of homework but its do-able
Dr. Allen gave lots of homework but I am in his 5 week summer course. Overall he helped his students keep in contact and READ it would help tremendously
Professor Allen is extremely helpful and encouraging if you ask for help. The class is a tough class and even tougher when taken online. As long as you put in the work you should do well.
Professor Allens class for me wasnt an easy class but it wasnt a hard one either. You really have to earn your grade. Make sure to read the chapters and listen to his pre-recorded lectures. I had a hard time because some subjects just isnt for me like math and science classes. He gives you all of the information needed for the class.
This class was made available online because of COVID. This IS NOT a good class to take online. Having someone provide a lecture is key. I think Dr. Allen did the best he could however, I speculate he is a better instructor in person than online. HE DOES want you to pass and he has given our class every opportunity to make a passing grade.
Its lots of information and will be very hard if you struggle with science. Thankfully the profesor has guided me on how to properly study, which helped a lot. It has been hard retaining the information, but Im trying my best since I graduate this semester! If youre dedicated take this course!
Not a easy class in any way, but you will learn a lot. Any questions or concerns I had the professor responded quickly and made time to help. Online class has a lot of work every week that is due with a Exam every other week, along with virtual lab assignments and 2 lab exams.
Definitely don't take this class online! Way too much material to absorb without instruction. Professor was very knowledgeable about the material, but he expected the same level from students which made it really hard. Professor was very accessible and receptive to questions.
I only took this class online because of COVID. It is a bit hard because there is so much content that needs to be covered and we don't have zoom meetings. However, he is very helpful and gives plenty of opportunities for you to have a good grade. If you do the work you will definitely pass the class. I would recommend taking him.
This class was basically a lot of memorization for the tests. The professor is available to answer any questions. Be aware that he does give a lot of homework through LearnSmarts AND actual homework assessments. In the end, the homework did help you become familiarized with the chapter too. It is not an easy breezy class, you'll have to work hard.
Professor Allen puts time and effort into making his course very clear and understanding. Exams are just like the review, quizzes are on the connect assignments. Stay on top of your hw each week and you will be fine, the work can be time consuming. He helps answer any questions and gives reminders each week. Overall amazing professor! TAKE HIM!
Dr. Allen is very detailed on how he wants things done. Very good in staying in touch and updating his students with major assignments coming up. Homework is heavy on some chapters but can be done. Overall he made this course easy to navigate for being online.
Dr. Allen is very organized with his assignments and deadlines. His exams are mostly vocabulary bold terms from the textbook. His homework is completion grades. His quizzes are the most difficult. He does offer an opportunity for extra credit. An A is achievable if you put forth the effort.
This class is difficult, but professor Allen is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable! I took this class, medical microbiology, online and it is a ton of work so be prepared to read and do lots of assignments. You will learn so much though, and professor Allen is very supportive just make sure you communicate with him!
He is an interesting professor that I have ever taken for Biology class. He is funny during our class on Webex before each exam. He will make time to review and go through all the things for you and answer your questions. If you take his online class, be ready to do a lot of weekly assignments, but they are useful and informative. Good luck to you!
Awesome class, but definitely hard especially if you don't do the work. If you have a job and family just be prepared to do lots of homework on Connect, as that's how to obtain participation in his course.
I know that I am not very good at science. Beginning was easy at first a little, but as weeks go on it does get harder. Studying for the tests is very important or you will not do good at all. He is very good at answering the questions I have in a decent time span.
This course is no joke on how much material there is too learn. The professor however always made himself available for assistance. Hard Course but Amazing Professor!
Dr. Allen is a really good! He great at communicating! This was probably one of the most difficult classes I have taken, mainly because of the work load. Everything is doable though, just very time consuming and he lets you know that right off the bat. Procrastination failure, and he is not kidding.
A lot of material that he expects you to memorize and apply. Lots of reading, both in sheer volume and amount that needs to be retained. The lectures used were from another professor on YouTube so a lot of the exams didn't necessarily match lecture material. He was very accessible for questions but it definitely felt as if I was teaching myself.
It wasn't to bad the majority of the grade goes toward the exams, but he drops the worst exam grade.
Professor Allen is a great professor and he's always there to answer any questions you may have. I've never had a professor be so readily available at any time to help, so that's something I really appreciated. This class requires a lot of work, so be ready to spend a lot of time on assignments. As long as you do the work, you will pass.
Great teacher! He holds study sessions via webcam for anyone who needs it, the grading criteria is VERY straight forward. As long as you follow along on "connect" then you will be fine. He is also very understanding and curves the tests if need be.
This class is very challenging but professor Allen makes it possible to understand the material. Attendance is not mandatory but he always makes time to review with students over webex!! If you miss any assignments he will work with you and make sure you get your education. You will not regret taking him!
I think this professor would be great for in person, but not online. This course required a lot of reading. He did have a lecture posted in his course from another professor it was a little, but it didn't always match with what you need to know for the exam. I did appreciate the txt reminders and how he was always available to answer questions.
Although this class can be very challenging, it's nothing any student shouldn't be able to handle. The workload can be large at times but with proper time management, students will be fine. This course also forces you to learn the material and thoroughly understand everything which can be helpful for the second half of BIOL.
He's a great professor
Prof. Allen made learning Microbiology online less stressful than I thought it would be. This class has heavy reading (1-2 chapters a week), but the Connect assignments truly help in learning and understanding the content. Warning, the Connect assignments do take quite some time to complete. Deadlines on Fridays. The exams are lengthy but fair.
Dr. Allen was very helpful with the online learning. As long as your weekly assignments get completed and you study the material, you will be just fine. He is very understanding with life outside if school, and if you come to him about a late assignment with honesty, he will be there for you to help you with that.
Overall, it was a tough class, but I definitely will say I learned a lot. The exams are definitely the hardest thing about this course, but Dr. Allen is extremely understand of your life outside of school, and I am extremely grateful for that. Do Your Work! and Study!!! He's also really accessible outside class times too, sign up for the remind!!!!
Took his BIOL2420 class online. Class is like a guided self teach. Almost all the resources used in the class are from outside. He did do review sessions which I heard were good but I was not able to to attend the times he set them up. Be prepared for a lot of homework. Like 5+ hours minimum per week.
This is by far the hardest class I have taken. This class requires a lot of work. The tests were very hard, and homework is very time consuming. I liked how he did Webex review sessions and was available for questions. He is a great professor, I just feel this course needs to be taken in person. You will have to teach yourself/YouTube.
If you do the work you will pass, Provides the necessary materials and lectures to get you there.
Great teacher!
Easy class as long as you keep up with your assignments. Exams are not hard as long as you do the review he offers.
His dedication to help students is displayed by teaching three courses at San Jacinto college while teaching overloads in Lone Star. He appear in many colleges because he simply love to teach and make himself available all over the state. Love him. Take him
Great professor, Great communication. If you don't do the homework you will not pass, Discussion post, 7 exams plus the final, lots of homework. Professor holds webex meetings prior to exam to make sure you understand the concept. I highly recommend!!
I initially thought I would be taking this class in person but it got moved to online. I had a very hard time in this class simply because it was online and Professor Allen didn't hold lectures. He uploaded youtube videos as your lectures. The test review is extremely vague. He does do a generous test curve which has saved my grade this semester!
The vast majority of this class consists of online readings and homework's, as well as chapter quizzes and some online labs which aren't too difficult. Tests are long and challenging, but if you study the material you should be okay. If you do all the work on time and dedicate enough hours to it, you'll do just fine.
This course requires you to turn in weekly homework and discussions, as well as labs on Connect. The labs are easy to follow, so there is no real way to mess them up unless you don't turn them in. Dr. Allen does give a lot of tests, but he does it to break up the chapters, so we only have to study a few at a time. I would 100% take Dr. Allen again.
If you are working and taking multiple classes, I would re-consider taking him. He is text book heavy, and he posts lectures off of youtube. The class is a lot of work obviously as Microbiology is not an easy subject. He does curve, but there was too much homework for me.
There is a lot of homework for a non-major class, but he gives curves and extra credit so stick it out.
In this class, you have to be ready to put in the effort. This is crucial to online students, because not only do you have to make time to do the homework assginment, you also have to make time to study for exams. He is a really good professor and he makes the effort to help his students struggling to understand the concept of biology.
This class is not difficult is tolerable, I wouldn't say is an easy class but just do the work you will fine. However you have a lot of hw for every chapter you have a discussion, readings, labs and quizzes. The quizzes are of ten questions and the labs are short. The good things you can do it at your own time.
He is pretty chill. He will extend deadlines for good reason. All of the weeks assignments are due Friday not Sunday. Kind of a lot of homework but you can do it when ever you want throughout the week. There is lots of exams but he drops your lowest.
Good professor in but lots of homework. communicates very well and answers all your question.
Great professor very understanding and works with you as long as your doing all your work.
Your only grades are the tests which there are 5 and a final. I found it easy because all you have to do is read the chapters and focus on the vocab and you will do good. Professor also emails back quickly and was nice. Overall, all you have to do is do some labs and homework quizzes and read the material.
Great teacher! Very organized and responds in a timely manner. It's an easy class if you do the work.
Really good professor. He has proctored exams but if you just know your stuff and review they are easy A's, also gives generous curves. Very understanding, always responds, and gives 1 on 1 help if you ask. He has a large work load, all on connect, but it's very easy, just tedious. Easy A as long as you watch his lectures or read the chapters.
He is really approachable and he also utilizes different learning pathways. If you are an audio learner, there are lectures. If you are a visual learner there are videos. He has great study material.
I had this professor for biology online, and he is great, the amount of homework is not a lot but youll have to keep up if not you will fall behind. Test Reviews arent as accurate for exams, so I will suggest to keep studying from the textbook.
This course has a lot of homework assignments and tests, but only because there is a bunch of material to be covered. Do the discussions for each chapter and do the smart books and you will get a good grade on the tests.
When I signed up for microbio. I was nervous because everyone says that it is a very challenging class, however, Professor Allen made it very easy to understand and learn the material. (especially in an online class). Do the smart books and you will learn the material for the tests. I highly recommend taking his class(:
Professor Allen bio 1408 class is super easy to pass as long as you do the WORK! Completing assignments is so important. Assignments aren't hard but complete them. Test are easy. What you study will be on the test. He's just a good professor overall. Everything you want in a professor. HE WILL NOT LET YOU FAIL! Don't hesitate to take his course!
He was an easy professor, all of the assignments such as homework and labs were on connect which was mostly easy. This course does require a lot of time to complete assignments, as long you take the time to do it, you would do just fine. Lastly, he sends out daily weekly reminders on what is assigned for the week. I would recommend taking him.
very good prof overall
So, I have online class with professor Allen, and there were a lot of chapter homework. Each chapter contain a lot of concept question that you have to answer it right, if not you have to answer more question. Other than that, everything else was great. He offer virtual meeting even though it was only anytime class. He answer all of my questions.
Weekly assignments are done on connect. There are 5 proctored tests and a final. The class is very organized. He is available for help. He also posts powerpoints and lecture videos which can help prepare for a test.
Good profesor and responds quickly if you have a question. He does web ex reviews for tests which helps. There are 5 exams and a final but he will drop the lowest grade, I recommend to study for the exams, since they can be somewhat hard at times. There is a lot of work but it is manageable.
Dr. Allen responds quickly and respectfully. There is a lot of busy work in this class that is due each week but it is manageable if you stay on top of it. It does end up drilling things into your memory. Very textbook heavy course.
He is a good professor. He gives weekly homework and quizzes. He does live for reviews and has a remind to communicate with the students. The class is challenging, you do have to take the time so study or you won't do well in the course. Study, do the homework's and stay organized. You will do fine. I would take him again.
Great Professor, does reviews for test and gives extra credit.
always ready to help, he listens a lot, gives extra time for exam reviews.
tons of homework
Dr. Allen is a great professor to take especially for a course like Biology, which is one I struggle with, but I got through with his guidance and understanding. He is very helpful and understanding.
Decent prof
I suck at Biology, but he was extremely clear on what was expected to get a good grade. He is very good at communication every week and sends out emails saying what is due. He uses MG Connect for his textbook, and that was a lifesaver for me when studying for the tests. It can be a lot of information. Thankfully, he goes over a chapter a week.
Professor was very nice and understanding. He explained and told us what was expected from the start.
Great teacher, available to students who need help. Gives you all the tools you need, but does require you to put in the effort.
Prof. is fantastic, I am terrible at bio and had to message alot and he always responded super fast and was nice. If you have any questions just make sure you communicate with him and he is more willing to help. There is alot of work to do in this course and you cant procrastinate. All tests are curved, HW's completion, gives extra credit for final
For a 6 week summer class, we had 11 chapter assignments in connect. No zoom meeting required which is good if you work or have obligations outside of school. 5 Exams plus your Final Exam. He adjust your exam grades, not your final exam grade but does give you extra credit. It is not a hard class you just have to do the work. 100% would take again
Professor Allen is a good professor! He has a solid course plan but more importantly is always on time with grades. I am currently in his mini summer class but my own grade is due to my own time management. He is truly a good teacher but most of all offers extra credit and helps you out when he sees you are struggling in a specific topic.
Professor Allen is well organized. There are new exams and homework every week, and it's expected since it is a 6-week course and Professor Allen provides videos for you to watch. He gives extra credit for some work, and test grades are curved, which is helpful. If you study, you will do well on your exams.
Professor Allen is very considerate of his students. He organizes Zoom meetings before a test, and gives curves! There is a lot of homework posted on McGraw-Hill Connect which you can get a free trial! Make sure you are prepared to read... a lot and study for the material in order to pass the exams. This class is not hard as long as you study.
Professor Allen is very well organize and willing to help his students. Found it challenging to keep up with the work load, but good teacher. Study well for exams, know your material. He will help with curving the grade and gives extra credit.
Professor Allen is a very good teacher well organized. I found it challenging to keep up with the work load, but it was manageable. Study well for exams, know your material. He will help with curving the grade and gives extra credit.
Professor Allen will give clear expectations for class and he is not kidding by saying you need to stay on top of assignments. Found work load challenging but manageable. He is well organized and super helpful, a plus for extra credit!
Dr. Allen is a very good Professor, he communicates fast and is very helpful.
He's a good professor and very caring but I'm not sure you would want to take this if you're not a science major. It's extremely in depth and very frustrating. The exams & quizzes are awful. Exams are lockdown with webcam. However, he will meet with you to work with you and help you understand. $90 extra for Connect to do assignments on.
Great professor !! had a great time in class, easy grader, quiz and labs were easy but exams were if you study and will be getting A on this class.
Great professor !! had a great time in class,
GREAT Professor !! had a such great time in class
He is a good professor. Sends you email reminders on assignments. He does reviews before an exam. The work was A LOT. Which was a bit expected for a 6 week course. As long as you do the work and study before an exam you will succeed in his class :)
He is very lenient and an understanding professor. Would take again
Caring professor
Dr. Allen was a great professor and he understands that students have other classes and jobs outside of school. He's very caring. Do all the assigned work and you will pass
This is the first class I have ever dropped! Take this class if you don't have a life outside of school. He requires a ton of stuff to be done every week and his deadlines are on Fridays. The first Smartbook assignment had 175 questions! He also requires LockDown Browser for his exams.
work load slightly overwhelming became easier to handle later in semester. I work full time but managed to finish my work in 2-3 days. Pros: curves, exams easy (50 questions) provides other helpful resources. Cons: due dates are usually every Friday, connect assignments, lockdown browser. I suggest you to use the reading guides as reviews for exams
nonscience majors don't take his class. lots of work due weekly. Take his class if it's the only class you are taking because you will need to study day in and day out to pass. not a great test taker don't take him because he doesn't allow notes/book use and he uses a webcam and lockdown browser. no real review for exam just read book.
Very easy class. He grades in a way that is beneficial in the long run for students. You can find his textbook online for free (barely use it). Quizlet is your bestfriend in this class. The whole class is just quizzes and then watching documentaries and summarizing them. Overall good class and good professor.
Professor Allen is a good professor, but be prepared to learn by yourself. He does routine check ups on the class, besides that it is your responsibility to turn in all the work each week. His reviews give you what to study, not the answer sheet. Be prepared to study and work hard, his class isn't for procrastinators.
Lots of homework and it can get heavy if it's not your strong subject. Tests are in lockdown browser and no notes can be used to help, pretty much read the book and you'll pass the test. All the homework is due Fridays and everything is opened up to work ahead.
Be ready to read the textbook and watch all the videos with each lesson. All the week's work is due every Friday. About 5 tests and the final, out of the 5 test lowest one is dropped. Join the remind app, he replies fast there if you have questions.
I was terrified going into this class because I suck at Biology, but he's very understanding and is very lenient. You HAVE to read and make sure you know the material at the beginning of the semester or you won't understand anything going forward. I'm really happy I picked him to be my professor because if it was anyone else, I would have failed.
Science was never my strong subject and I'm not crazy about learning it Be prepared to read and to take 5 tests, lab quizzes, and homework weekly. However, if you read the text, you will do great on the homework. Professor Allen does reviews and is always willing to answer questions and help. Had I had any different teacher, I would have dropped.
He is a good professor for students who want to be biology majors. But for those of us who are not it should be easier. He gives a lot of homework. 5 test.
Professor Allen is great. Lecture heavy course be prepared to read, read, read! I really liked the way his class is set up. He provides feedback and reminders via the remind app which helped me keep up. Make sure you stay on top of due dates and don't leave anything until the last minute or you WILL get behind.
If you want good grades watch the lectures provided and study chapter summaries. 5 exams and a final which require camera and audio and no notes, drops lowest exam. Every week has at least 1 lab quiz with several labs, chapter quiz and homework. Definitely put time into the class but once you get used to the schedule it gets easier to handle.
I took his hybrid micro class and all I can say is how helpful and nice he is, always available to help either in the labs or after them, responds quickly to emails. Only thing I can say is prepare to work hard, it's not an easy class and exams require you to thoroughly know the material. He also gives many curves and extra credit. Highly recommend
Dr. Allen is a great professor. Yes, there is a lot of works but as long as you keep up with your work every week; you won't fall behind. He is very understanding and willing to help you and help you understand the chapters. You have to work for your grade.
Professor Allen is a very helpful professor. The class is hard but it's manageable and you can still pass with an A if you put in the work. Labs are really interesting, I had a hybrid class, so labs were 3 hours 2 days a week with a lab quiz every week. There were 7 exams plus the final, weekly chapter assignments, homework and quiz.
Professor Allen is a really great professor. He is always available to answer any in-class or outside-class questions through email or remind. There is a lot of reading and studying in order to be successful in the class, but an A is manageable if you put in the work. 7 tests throughout the semester one every two weeks covering two chapters each.
Chris Allen is a really great professor, he really wants you to pass, MicroBiology is a hard class but if you have to take it I would really recommend this professor for it. I took it as a hybrid class, the Lab days were really fun with cool experiments. I really enjoyed this class.
Dr. Allen is a great biology professor. I would take this class again in a heartbeat. The labs we had to do in class were fun to keep up with and very interesting. I would recommend others to take his class he is really helpful. There is homework every week. 7 exams plus final exam, one quiz a week, chapter assignments and homework :)
Professor Allen is such a great professor, he's always available when you need him and responds fast to emails. He makes sure to help you as much as your can and will take time out of his day to help you whenever. The labs in this class are so fun you won't regret it! You do need your lab manual and it will be your best friend in this class.
Professor Allen is a great professor! He made one of the hardest biology classes fun and entertaining and broken down course material into simple concepts to ensure you clearly understood each topic. He cares about his students and is always available outside of class and is willing to help in any way. If you have to take Micro, choose his class!
Took BIOL 1408 as an online class. For a non science major class it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and as long as you work off the textbook then you won't have any problems. Overall a great class to take.
Dr. Allen truly loves Micro and is very passionate about teaching. Took this class as a hybrid; 3 assignments due Fridays, 1 Lab quiz a week, and 7 total exams (every 2 weeks). Labs are fun but lecture material is a bit difficult, so ask a lot of questions, engage in discussions, and be ready to study! Manage your time to work for an A!
Be prepared for the opposite of a "non-science majors" biology class.
This is not the class to procrastinate! You have work due every Friday! There are connect assignments, virtual labs, and quizzes. There are also 5 exams and a final. As long as you do your work and study for the exams, you should be fine. Dr. Allen also provides a study guide and lectures/ youtube videos that are actually helpful.
He gives 3 to 6 assignments every week that is due on friday, there are also 7 exams and a final every two weeks! The labs are very interesting and probably the best part about the class, the lecture part is a bit difficult but as long as you read your material you should do well.
You have to work for your grade. Couple of assignments, quizzes, and labs that are pretty fun to do every week. He gives curves on exams which are fairly easy if you know your material. Provides sources like yt vids which helped me especially the amoeba sisters. I took notes on his lectures, watched the vids, and did the reading guides and passed.
Dr. Allen is a great professor and makes it easy to achieve an "A" in the class, of course, if you put in the work. 7 exams over 2-3 chapters and weekly lab quizzes. Great and fun labs, very straightforward class, without trying anyone can get a "B".
It's just like any other science class so make sure to attend class and bring your lab book. 7 exams, 2 labs and quizzes every week. Overall, Dr. Allen is a straight forward professor who is enthusiastic about microbiology and does review sessions for students who are interested.
Dr. Allen is perhaps one of the most passionate professors I've interacted with in the STEM realm. You will work for your grade but will be happy in the end. Lots of exams, but you'll pass effortlessly if you manage your time. Hold tight and fly right.
I took this class as an online course which made it a little difficult for me. I think taking this class in person may have been easier but if you put in the work and effort you'll do fine. There are many tests over the course of every few chapters and use lockdown so you gotta prepare yourself ahead of time. Keep track of your assignments.
Prof. Allen is a nice person, but at times his class was very hard with no help or guidance. Drops your lowest test out of 5 offers 10 bonus points on the final for a rating on here & the survey. Tests are proctored even for online. Tests are 50 questions 100 for final. All classwork is on McGraw Hill online textbook. No study guides & on your own
Instructor was thorough, communicative, and helpful to students in the field of study as well as in personal growth. The professor offers zoom study sessions for exams and is clear with directions, syllabus, and expectations. The instructor provided everything the first day of class and it was self paced.
The tests in this class are really difficult but this class is possible to pass if you actually give the effort to study the material. Also the professor does give a lot of homework and labs but the homework and labs are usually easy. He is also really understanding of personal matters and will offer an extension if you ask!
Science isn't my forte, but this class is very simple. There are quite a few assignments due every week (1 smartbook assignment, 1 homework assignment, 1 quiz, and either 1-2 labs). For me, I could knock them out in one sitting, but for others, I do know it took them a couple of hours to complete each assignment. Professor Allen will work with you.
Professor Allen is a nice teacher, communicative, and gives extra credit when earned but be prepared for a lot of work so make sure you're organized.
He always asks his students to take at least 1 to 2 hours every day to read the course in quiet place. In additions in class, we form teams to play a jeopardy game together and later on, we play a kahoot game individually. He is very organized, and he is also available for each student that needs extra help. Also, he is study guide is helpful.
Dr. Allen is a very passionate when it comes to teaching he has all the material you need to study plus he does zoom reviews with you and if you still need any extra help he will do anything to help you. He communicates alot and sends a lot of positive feedback.
Enjoyed this class! I took both Biology requirements with professor Allen. He sends out reminders and has everything laid out so there is a clear understanding. He offers reviews via zoom which is really helpful. I have not been able to attend but I take advantage by watching the recordings on my own time.
Took this class online, it was more challenging than expected for a non-science major class. Professor Allen is always willing to help, and explain he wants everyone to succeed and you can tell. He is a great teacher provides lots of resources for students and is very knowledgeable.
Dr. Allen is one of the most organized professors I've ever learned from. He opens the entire online classwork from day 1, allowing students to work ahead as much as they like. He is clear with his requirements and his standards, utilizing his expert communication skills to the fullest.
Throughout the course, this professor made sure we got the material correctly, scheduled zoom meetings with you, helped you pass EVERY exam, and cared about all his students. In the morning, he sends inspirational texts to make your day better. This is my graduating year and he made it easy. If I could take this professor again, I would.
Awesome, professor!
Awesome! Professor!
I took this class online, all the assignments were in the same place and everything was well organized. Due dates are also important to note.
I liked when he puts together practice games like jeopardy and kahoot, It helps prepare for exams and the questions/answers match the lecture notes. He gives the same amount of work as of every 4 credit course just make sure to spread it out weekly so you can keep up. Also, he uses remind to help prepare the following day of class.
BIOL-1408 was a more challenging course than I expected, but the professor encouraged us to keep going & send out due dates reminders throughout the semester. Had 1-2 weeks per chapter assignments, quizzes, labs from M-F due by Friday. 6 exams, including the final w/ webcam & lockdown browser. I don't know final grade yet but I'm passing, take him!
I have had the opportunity to take many online classes and I can say with complete honesty that this class with professor Allen has been one of the best. He provides recorded lectures on the material along with zoom conferences to help students prepare for that week's test. Just be willing to put in the extra effort and you will get a good grade.
Professor Christopher Allen has a passion for teaching bio and wants the best for his students. If you don't know your class standing he will show halfway through the semester to help students know where they're at this class requires a textbook also.
Only take his class in person. Online is a quick way to fail this course. I took it as a hybrid class, and I needed the in-person lab time. He is a caring professor who aims to teach and help his students in any way possible. I've learned a lot from him. The tests can be a bit challenging, but he does offer a curve.
Professor Allen is a nice teacher, communicative, and gives extra credit when earned.
I highly recommend Professor Allen. He shows he cares about the student's progress. He is very thorough with instructions and provides us with everything we need to pass the class (PPTs, Quizzes, Study Reviews, Jeopardy, and Kahoot! games; which are extremely fun.) He is very patient, knowledgeable, and dedicated. Attendance is very important!!!
ATTENTION EVERYONE, Professor Allen does care about his students. Trust me, this is a BIO class, at first you're going to panic and be like "crap im failing", but trust me, as long as you do the work on time, and watch the lecture videos, and study guide videos, and read the master concepts out loud at the end of every chapter, you'll be fine.
Front loads the chapter work and there are a lot of assignments that are always due on fridays! I was a bit overwhelmed at first but i learned alot and he genuinely cares about his students. Also, lockdown browser protocols are a bit extensive so make sure you do a proper environment check.
I highly recommend taking this class! He is very understanding and will help you with any questions or concerns that you have. Put in the time and effort and you will pass this class.
Overall a good professor that give good feedback when asked and tells entertaining stories during class. Would recommend to use the study guide he provides and the lecture videos he records to help study for the exams and final.
Professor is awesome with students. He also reviews the material with the class before exams and finals.
Great class and great teacher but you will be front loaded with a lot of chapter work so just be prepared. It slows down after about week 6 or 7. Dr. Allen is great with communication and you can tell he really cares about your success!
Professor Allen was really helpful in me passing BIO 1408 there are some things in the class where the assignment you can get online. But other than that he was a very helpful professor with extra credit and flexible due dates to an extent.
If you're taking this class online, be prepared for the workload! Nothing overwhelming but definitely need to know how to manage your time. It is a lot of material to cover but Professor Allen gives plenty of outside materials to use as suggested content in order to fully understand the chapters better.
Dr. Allen is one of the best professors I've ever had! He clearly loves what he teaches, and finds ways to make it fun. He is helpful and makes the content that is usually difficult, easy to understand. If you are going to take microbiology, you couldn't ask for a better professor. The homework isn't hard, you just have to do the work!
He doesn't take late work, and is very strict on if you do your assignments. His tests aren't that hard, but all in all if you do the work and study a little for the test, you should be good.
Online course is all the same every week with assignments and a lab that go with it, they can be very time consuming and tedious but overall straight forward and helpful. After two chapters resides a test that is always difficult so please study the PowerPoints he gives you. if you really keep up and try I promise you will pass
Professor Allen is a great professor! He is very caring towards his students and ensures all students have access to resources for better learning. There are multiple quizzes, labs, and homework for each chapter/unit but they are fairly easy and are great for learning the material. Overall, I highly recommend this Professor Allen's course.
Professor Allen is a great professor! I took this course for Biology 1408 and overall it was a nice course. This course requires multiple quizzes, homework, and lab quizzes per unit but they are fairly easy and are great for learning. There are also multiple resources the professor offers for students to better understand the material!
he is a very good professor, he gives out many resources, to be able to pass this class is all on you, only thing is he does gives a lot of work.
prepare for a lot of homework but over all good professor and gives out many useful resources.
Great Professor! Lots of outside learning sources were made available through links to the students, which helped improve my learning experience! The 6-week summer minimester was a lot of hard work and the assignments don't stop coming so be prepared to have 0 fun life activities for a bit. Overall was a great class!
Professor Allen was very kind and responsive to students. Summer course is very fast with a big workload. Stay on top of all of the work, and you should be okay!
Professor Allen is by far one of the best professors I have had. He is very straightforward and all the material is given to you on the first day. It is a fast paced summer course so be prepared to spend your time on the computer. I do not recommend taking this class if you do not have enough time. If you do all the assignments, you will be fine.
Very nice and communicative profesor! He does multiple test reviews during the semester to help you understand the subject. He gives a lot of extra points if you keep up with the homework and reviews. Overall, I enjoyed taking this class!
Very Great Professor! I recommend taking him as an online course in the summer. He is very well organized and offers a lot of help to make sure you understand the material. Be prepared to put in the work since it is a short course with lots of material to cover. Make sure you have time for this class and do the work if you want to pass.
This professor was very professional and caring. Every week before tests he would ask to see if anyone needed a study session before tests and remind of due dates . The curriculum is very straight forward but its a pretty heavy work load for a summer class in my opinion. The textbook was easy and could be done alongside the pre-recorded lectures.
Professor Allen is very nice to his students. He sends reminds and emails every day to let you know what you need to do for the next day or week. He also have a zoom review before every exam. If you miss the zoom review, do not worry because he also post the video on D2L.
If you have to take Biology for Non-Science Majors take Dr. Allen! He provides so many resources like study guides, powerpoints, review sessions, and recorded lectures! Do the homework on time, review the resources, and you'll do well. Can't recommend it enough!!
All the material he provides in the class is very clear and self-explanatory. Even though it is a biology class, he makes it easy to understand. Also, he provides multiples reviews before every test.
I took Dr. Allen for a summer course for biology 1408 in the summer. The course load was heavy. The learnsmarts, homework, labs, and online quizzes are very time-consuming. But, if you work on it every day then they won't feel so time-consuming. Dr. Allen is always available for any questions and does exam reviews for exams. Great professor!
Took Bio 1408 for the summer session. The class itself is a lot of work but as long as you keep up with it you should pass. The professor gives out tons of resources.
I took Dr. Allen for a 5 wk bio course. He gives you everything you need to get a good, but you need to be willing to do 5+ assignments 3x a week for 5 weeks, so take that into consideration. The assignments are pretty easy if you do the smart book assignment and watch the lectures. I would 100% recommend Dr. Allen's class to anyone needing bio
I took Dr. Allen's 5 week Bio for Non-Science majors, and he was great. I liked how he organized the class, the homework is very time consuming, but it is easy to get a good grade on them. Exams were a little hard, for my class he ended up curving them which was nice. I would definitely take a class from him again.
Hands down one of the best professors that I have ever had. He makes sure to constantly remind his students about due dates to all assignments so that you don't miss one. I took the six week summer course and although it did require a lot of my time for notetaking the quizzes, labs, and tests were really easy.
Heavy material. But you can tell he cares about his students and he will help you stay on top of things. I would recommend taking again. Read the textbook.
I took this class in a 6-week summer session. If you are doing the same be prepared to have something to do basically every day, FOR SURE every other day because it's basically a chapter every other day. THAT BEING SAID, Professor Allen does not set you up for failure, HE WANTS YOU TO DO WELL. Science has never been my thing, but still got an A.
Dr Allen is smart and very passionate about biology. He definitely makes labs fun! Lecture material in general is not the most fun and is a heavy read, but Dr Allen is more than willing to help in any way possible! Definitely recommend!!
I highly recommend Prof. Allen as he truly loves microbiology and that definitely reflects on how he teaches. Online lectures and in person labs are very much material heavy but if you simply read/ keep up with the textbook you'll do great!
Take Dr. Allen, you will not regret it! He wants you to pass & will do anything to help you succeed! He offers one on one meetings/tutoring sessions. There is a lot of classwork (connects, smart-book) but it is microbiology so it is to be expected. He provides prerecorded lectures, power points and chapter outlines that you can access at anytime.
I chose this professor based on my friend's recommendation, and she was not wrong about how awesome he is. Microbiology is not easy but he is passionate about it and it shows. He is very knowledgeable and he creates a learning environment where questions are always welcomed. Makes availability for test prep and does not want to see anyone fail!
The professor is hands on and involved (especially) during labs. The set up for the course is practically a hybrid, where you show up for lab and do your lectures at home. This allows the professor to play games such as kahoot or have individual presentations in class, overall would take his class again.
Professor Allen is responsive to the needs of his students and communicates thoroughly and often. He also sends out encouraging/inspirational sayings each week. The exams were not bad as long as you completed all of the homework assignments, took notes on the lectures and studied the lecture notes and the figures in the textbook.
Biology for Non-Majors can be a very difficult course, this isn't the Professors fault. He provides tons of resources for you to understand and be successful. Some chapters are heavier then others, so manage your time. His D2L/Syllabus is exceptionally detailed and laid out well. He uses Remind and D2L to keep you up to date. Take this professor!
This professor is clear and to the point. Notes, homework, quiz, then exam followed by lab. I enjoyed the clear directions and simplicity. However, I would have liked to see more creative project for hands on learners. Never the less, great class and he respects if you finish your work and show that you are making an effort in order to support.
Work was easy to complete (We used Connect), but there was quite a bit of homework and the deadline was on Friday instead of the usual Sunday. Everything was available from the start of the semester so you can work ahead if you want. Overall, I enjoyed the class and found it easy.
I took Professor Allen's Biology course online and let me just say that his formatting is nicely organized. Not only does he have everything laid out to you neatly, he is also fast at getting back to you on any questions you may have. There will be homework yes, but he gives you a week to do it. Highly recommend him!!

Not only does he have everything laid out to you neatly, he is also fast at getting back to you on any questions you may have. There will be homework yes, but he gives you a week to do it. Highly recommend taking his class!
Dr. Allen is a wonderful professor. He has experience in his taught field, and he is always able to find ways to enhance his students learning experiences. There are a LOT of Smartbook assignments, and they can take a few hours each, but if you manage your time well, you should be successful! He gives you all the resources needed to get an A.
Science classes are challenging, but Dr.Allen did a fantastic job making the class fun by making it interactive. He is also very considerate of his students and organized in his classes.
He does a great job of pushing us to follow the method of active studying. He does not really lecture us but we do get to play interactive games to help us learn. The lab part of this class is fun and interactive. Overall he is a good professor.
Dr. Allen is a great professor with a well organized course. All assignments and text book are through McGraw Hill - text book reading, concept mastery, homework, labs, and quizzes. All exams require lock down browser and web cams so make sure you prepare well. Grades on a curve and has recorded lectures and review sessions. Would take again!
Dr. Allen is the best professor I could have taken for Medical microbiology. He is very passionate about microbiology and makes the class interesting. He doesn't waste any time in class and makes sure we have the dedicated time we need for lab and reviewing each chapter. There is a lot of homework but it helps. Take him. You won't regret it.
Dr. Allen is a great professor with a well organized course. All assignments and text book are through McGraw Hill. Homework will take up a lot of time be mindful! But with proper time management should be able to finish all assignments on time. Exams are online. Grades on a curve and has recorded lectures and review sessions. Would take again!
Professor Allen was great. Keep in mind that you will need to dedicate time to study the material outside the class. He doesn't do lectures but focuses his class time on labs. Highly recommend.
He was cool, but this class was very hard. Be prepared to spend at least 3 hours a day on this class. He was extreme in his testing procedures if you're taking the online version.
A good professor, very tough on testing and testing procedures, and most assignments are on connect. lectures were a little hard to understand. overall decent professor, just a little difficult with certain things.
He was a very understanding professor, but he creates extremely difficult tests that you truly need to study for. There are 5 exams that are not open notes. There is a lot of weekly homework that isn't difficult but needs to be done with time. Overall a decent professor, just a very heavy workload.
Dr. Allen is very clear on what he expects, and if you follow the syllabus and other instructions, you will do well. This class was for Non-Science Majors and is still fairly challenging. Do not be afraid to ask questions; he will get back to you! Very good professor and worth the time!
Incredibly respectful and informative professor who is patient with students when it comes to their success in the class. You are required to put in the work, which he ensures you are equipped for. I would be sure to speak up, as he is very helpful when you take time to ask. Tests are difficult, so disperse your time wisely each week for studying.
The tests are very hard and impact the grade heavily; there is a lot of homework, and while is fairly easy, it is a lot and it has barely any impact on the grade.
He is a very good professor and is passionate about his job. I learned so much with him this fall semester. His work is pretty straightforward but studying is necessary to pass. Attendance is also mandatory so do not miss class because you will miss a lot. He works with students and makes sure everyone is understanding what is going on.
The tests are very hard and impact the grade heavily; there is a lot of homework, and while is fairly easy, it is a lot and it has barely any impact on the grade. :(
He is a good professor, but this class could be stressful with the amount of workload given to you. The exams can be difficult and impacts your grade heavily. However, he gives out a good amount of extra information and answers your question clearly.
Was always willing to help even when I didn't read the guild lines properly, very helpful.
Dr. Allen is awesome. He has lectures posted for every unit and always holds zoom reviews before tests. He is generous when grading. Do not go into this class thinking it's easy (if you are taking non-major) You will need to study material and lectures frequently!!!
He is a very good professor and is passionate about his job.. His work is pretty straightforward but studying is needed to pass. He works with students and makes sure everyone is understanding. I had so much workload this semester but his passion to help others really motivated me to give this class my all and i'll forever be grateful for him!
He is an amazing professor who works with you if you're having trouble. This class is hard and studying matters but that's with every biology class. He makes the class comfortable so you always feel okay to ask for help. There would be study session before every exam that were super helpful, and he would give us outline for the exams.
So much to learn in such a short amount of time. He has lectures available throughout so you can watch them in your own time. Homework is tedious, but you will learn a lot from it. Exam reviews are student-guided so you're not really sure the guidance wants more information on is even relevant for the exam.
Professor Allen was great. There was never any confusion on the assignments, it was always very clear what we were supposed to be doing every week, it is just up to you to get it done. Labs are fun to complete. Tests are sometimes tricky but as long as you read and do the provided work that is meant to help you then you are good to go!
Professor Allen was a very caring and respectful teacher. He would plan additional lectures for us to be well prepared for exams, go over anything we had trouble with, and make sure we stayed on top of our assignments and was good at communicating. It was a difficult class, but most science courses can be. He was super helpful tho :)
The book highlights key points about the lesson. The PowerPoint and videos help you with quizzes and exams. Try not to submit your work last minute as some lessons may take longer than others. He replies to emails in a reasonable time and does zoom exam reviews on what you would like him to further explain on the PowerPoint that's already provided.
Great professor, but massive amount of work. I had to withdraw because I couldn't keep up with it and all my other classes. He's easy to access outside of class and a great guy in general, but the work was too much and a bit too difficult for a non-science major. Still, I'd recommend him for students better at science than I!
He goes straight from the syllabus. Labs were fun but make sure to record your results for each lab for your Lab Quizzes & Lab Practical. Easy to contact if you have questions. If in-person be ready to present a lot, and he doesn't lecture much but make sure to listen if he does. Micro is a hard class so it's not easy A requires a lot of studying.
In general this class is hard but he is very helpful, gives many handouts, and very easy to contact outside of class. Make sure to pay very good attention to the labs because the lab quizzes and lab practicals are very detailed. He doesn't lecture much so get ready to read a lot !
Dr. Allen is a fantastic instructor and I 100% recommend him. He is so helpful and will always take time to help students. He will do review sessions before exams, he has lecture videos on D2L, and will lecture in class. The material is difficult, but Dr. Allen makes it easier to understand. He is very dedicated and makes class fun!
I love this class, it was challenging for me at first, due to class being online, yet my professor made it easy for me by communicating effectively, motivating and holding zoom exam reviews. I learned to be more organized and to manage my time. Grateful for Dr. Allen, he is professional, caring and has knowledge and skills to teach this course.
The class itself is not easy, but it's not hard if you do the work. Professor Allen sets deadlines because it helps to not slack off. He is very clear on what needs to be done. He sends out reminders, motivational texts through the Remind App, and gives zoom lectures before exams. I would definitely take him again if I can.
I love Dr. Allen Biology class, I learned to manage my time & to organize myself. He is a great communicator and motivator, Syllabus is detailed and easy to follow. Zoom sessions for exam reviews and at fingertips for students. Very responsive to emails. He cares and it shows. His knowledge and skills speak louder than any rating. One of the best!
Dr.Allen is a great professor that cares about his students he sends remind Texts when assignments are due, and he also has a Zoom meeting every time there is an exam coming up, Most assignments are due on Fridays. He is a helpfully committed professor!
Professor Allen is a great professor. This is a Microbiology Class, it is not an easy class. This is a tough class, but if you pay attention, participate in the class, and study in and out side of class you will do fine. He is easy to get in contact with you outside of class to ask questions, go over you test, and test you over any material.
Dr. Allen is a great professor especially if you're taking online. His lectures are great and you NEED to listen to them multiple times and really absorb the information if you want to do well on his exams which are weighted much higher than in previous classes I've taken. Don't take this class if you think its gonna be just an easy credit.
Professor Allen was great and did a good job at keeping everybody updated on the due dates throughout the course. He has weekly chapter assignments on Connect which are a little heavy and time-consuming but is easy to navigate through. The tests can be hard but can easily pass if you put in the time to study and understand the material.
I'm not a biology major but if I was, I would stick with this professor for as many of my classes as possible. I like how thorough he is and I can tell that he's extremely competent in his knowledge of the subject material. This course is not difficult (imo) but do not take it if you cannot handle a heavy assignment work load with firm deadlines.
I enjoyed this class and Professor Allen was very thorough with his coursework requirements, which is something I appreciate. Would take again
Professor Allen cares about his students and wants to PREPARE YOU for your future career in healthcare. He has high expectations for his students- as he should. Class expectations are clear. He gives plenty of RESOURCES. Watch the pre-recorded lectures & manage your time. Take him if you want to LEARN and BE TRULY PREPARED for NURSING school!
Professor Allen is very organized. There is much content per module but it is less for a non-science majors. You will work on 01 module per week (lectures, homework, quiz, 01 - 03 labs) and have an exam over 02 - 03 modules every other week. Cameras on for exams.
Dr. Allen genuinely cares for his students and their learning. Yes, Microbiology is tough, but it was achievable with Professor Allen. I took his 16 wk in person class, and his lectures are pre-recorded in D2L. Do your work and make an effort to learn the material. if you ever need help reach out to him and he will one-on-one study with you.
This professor was overall great and very organized with weekly assignments. He was caring and kept track of progress. There were weekly assignment modules due on Friday which did take a lot of time to complete. There are also exams every few weeks (also due on Fridays) monitored by camera and Respondus lockdown; just make sure to study efficiently
Most of this course was on McGraw Hill, but there wasn't any confusion with assignments or tests, everything was well organized and clear to understand. The most helpful thing he did was have Zoom lectures before every test and would record/post them for students who couldn't attend.
There's a lot of work for this class, but it wasn't overwhelming; he gives a lot of time to complete 5-7 assignments a unit, though it could be easy to fall behind in you don't pay attention to due dates. Something very helpful that Prof. Allen would do is do Zoom lectures before every test and record them for students who couldn't attend.
Don't recommend taking this class online, it can be hard because you are basically on your own. Professor Allen is open to tutoring.
There is A LOT of work for this class! 1-2 weeks to complete. You can always work ahead however it is easy to fall behind if you don't keep track of due dates. He provides recorded lectures, powerpoints, study guides and zoom exam reviews to help us succeed. He is a very good professor. Just make sure you study and do the work!
You're on your own in this class. Work is easy but time consuming. He gives you 1-2 weeks to complete a chapter. Pay attention to due dates! It's easy to fall behind. Luckily, he sends out weekly reminders with due dates listed. He provides tutoring and exam reviews on zoom. Exams require lockdown browser with a camera. Just study and do the work.
Professor Allen is very passionate and caring about biology, and will do anything to help you succeed. The class is based on McGraw Connect, so you'll have to pay for that as well. There's hw, quiz, lab, and lab quiz due each week, and essentially a test every 2 wks. You'll be set if you look at his detailed slides &/or attend his reviews.
I would highly recommend this class IF it is one of the only classes you are taking. Minimum of 5 assignments open M-F, 5 tests, plus a final. There are plenty of resources and help available but you have to be able to dedicate a few hours each day to this class. Overall, it was a good class but it would have been easier without a full course load.
Take notes and view the lecture videos. Majority of class was spent on labs unless reviewing for upcoming exam or lab practicals (2 lab practicals and 4 exams). Lab quiz after completing them by the next week. McGrawHill Connect needed to complete online assignments. All exams were multiple choice, no fill in the blanks. Ask lots of questions!
The course consists of multiple weekly assignments with five exams. Be prepared to set aside a substantial amount of time to complete assignments, as they can get overwhelming if you start procrastinating. The provided teacher resources are vital in studying for the exams. There also may be an extra credit opportunity at the end of the course.
In this class you will take 5 test plus including the final plus almost weekly McGraw hill assignments and lab quizzes. This class takes up a lot of time because how difficult and extensive the subject is. Professor Allen is very passionate about his teaching and wants to see students succeed so, if you have to take microbiology take it with him!
If you have to take this class as a pre req, take it with professor Allen. The subject itself was difficult but he did his best on getting you prepared. Most class time is used on labs or test review, not really lectures. There is going to be a lot of work with weekly McGraw hill assignments and lab quizzes but he gives you enough time.
This course and professor is very organized. You will work on 1 module per week (lectures, homework, quiz, 1 - 3 labs) and have an exam over 2 - 3 modules every other week. Cameras are required for exams. It seems very extensive but as someone who it's fond of science, I was able to get through it.
Jumped around the textbook a lot, but clear outlines were provided for clear instructions on what to prepare before exams. We had 5 lecture exams, 2 lab practicals, and weekly lab quizzes. There were minimal lectures, but we did have mini projects over different pieces of a topic we were covering to teach each other and to promote active recall.
We had 5 lecture exams, 2 lab practicals, weekly lab quizzes, and online textbook assignments. There were minimal lectures, but we did have mini-projects to teach each other about different topics covered for a module to promote active recall. This I thoroughly enjoyed along with labs.
Dr. Allen is in my opinion a great choice for those thinking about online an class. He is very organized, he follows the syllabus, and is truly willing to help you learn. His course is a heavy workload but don't let that scare you. His quizzes are fair everything in the power points will be exactly what you need to prepare.
Dr. Allen in my opinion is the best choice for an online teacher because he is organized, he follows the syllabus, and truly cares to help you succeed. There is daily homework which can be tedious but it is doable if you organize yourself.
Professor Allen is very organized. You are aware of all deadlines and expectations at the start of class. There is homework every 1-2 weeks, depending on the chapter. The homework takes time, so make sure to plan out your schedule accordingly. There are five exams and a final, but the recorded lectures and PowerPoint provided help a lot.
Professor Allen was very helpful and organized. He provided Zoom tutoring sessions for each exam. There are five exams and a final. The recorded lectures and powerpoints slides helped a lot with the exams. There is homework that takes time, so plan it out and stay on top of deadlines. I would 100% recommend taking Professor Allen for this course!
Science is my least favorite subject of them all, and I knew I wasn't going to enjoy it. However, Dr. Allen's class is set up in a way where the guidelines are clear and routine, and you know what you are up against. He also gives extra credit and curves exam grades, which is exactly what I needed. It's been a rough one, but it could've been worse.
This class is very organized! There are five exams and one final. There are a lot of tools he provides that help with these exams. He does Zoom reviews the week of the exams to help with any additional questions you have. There is a lot of homework, but schedule it accordingly, and you will be fine. I 100% recommend this course!
Great teacher. He makes class enjoyable and we do plenty of in-lab experiments. His lectures are available via recordings, which are very convenient and helpful, but he leans on them a little too much sometimes (classes are mainly lab skills and less lecture-heavy). He cares about student success and student engagement in his classes.

professor Allen was very helpful!! this course provided a lot of info however there was a lot go homework there was enough time to complete every assignment. the test were over 2 chapters so it didnt feel overwhelming! would recommend this course.
professor allen was very helpful this course provided lots of info but lots of homework. good thing was there was alot of time to complete the assignments. the test weren't too bad it was over 2 chapters would recommend this class!!
The class has a lot of reading for the lectures. Definitely need to use your textbook, but over all not bad. He does care for his students and will take time out of his day to help you study or understand the material, which is great. Yet I did find this class difficult but that is just the material. No getting around that.
There are connect assignments, five exams, and one final. For each chapter, you're provided with recorded lectures, a powerpoint, and additional youtube videos. He also provides zoom reviews before each exam. All the material provided helps prepare you for exam. Overall, I've had a good experience in this class and have passed each exam with ease.
The professor has a clear syllabus and provides you with instructions on how to study for each chapter. The textbook and homework is done through Connect. The exams are lockdown browser. All in all, it's an easy course to pass because of how he has structured it.
Professor Allen is very clear with the deadlines and organization of the course. Each week there is a smartbook assignment, home work, quiz, online lab and lab quiz due over each chapter. The class is pretty extensive since it is a biology class, but if you complete your assignments on time, ask for help when needed, you will do fine.
There are quite a few assignments and labs due in connect but Prof. Allen gives his students a whole week to get them done and at times even two weeks if the assignment is a bit longer. At the beginning of every week he will send out remind emails and text messages to clarify what deadline and assignments are due that week. Great professor!
I really appreciate Professor Allen's dedication to helping us succeed. He went above and beyond by hosting Zoom meetings to review the material before our tests. It was incredibly helpful to have that extra support and guidance before diving into the exams. I feel more confident and prepared because of his efforts.
Do not take this class online! Dr. Allen was a great professor and was so engaging with the students and showed us all hands on what we were learning. I could ask him lots of questions about things i was curious about and he would entertain my lines of questioning which was really fun. I definitely recommend Dr. Allen and taking his class in person
Dr. Allen is a super engaging professor that teaches a difficult course. It's not that Dr. Allen is a difficult professor, it's just a difficult class. He does his best to make the course fair and doable for his students. However, you should not do this class online! The in person version was super fun, engaging, and hands on in a small class size.
The Professor was available through Remind, he typically responded within half an hour. He has a very organized schedule, normally two to three chapters in a week with a quiz at the exam at the end. Mind you this was an online 6 week course so I assume the work was more condensed than usual. Very good professor and gives good exam study guides.
Professor Allen was a great professor with all the due dates being close to one another due to it being a summer 6-week course, he still maintained to keep in touch with his students through remind, which was helpful to keep up. Also, he curves the tests depending on the class average, which is good due to those who aren't the best at biology.
This was a pretty easy 6 week online class! There are a lot of tests though so be ready for that. There are 5 and the final. He does not drop the lowest grade. I was never too swamped with homework. He curves your grade sometimes depending on class performance, and provides extra credit for the final. I would recommend this class!
I had the privilege of taking Professor Allen's course this semester, and it was an incredibly enriching experience. Professor Allen is a highly knowledgeable and passionate educator who truly goes above and beyond for his students.
There is a LOT of homework for sure but the class is "easy" otherwise. The program that is required to complete your assignments asks a lot of questions so it takes time but it's not hard. Completed grades get input automatically which is nice. Prof. is organized and reminds you via Remind about assignment due dates.
This was a easy summer class it was a lot assignments/Homework but is possible to get it done if time is dedicated. He does gives us extra points on exams and all the work is done through Mc Graw Hill Connect and the exams are Webcam. It was a pleasure taking this class for summer and I would diffidently take him again.
As someone who is better with English than STEM, this course was not as difficult as I feared. As long as you stay on top of assignments and take advantage of the course materials he provides, you'll be good! The only worry with this class is falling behind, because this particular one I took is asynchronous.
This class was not as hard as I expected. As long as you complete the online assignments and take the tests by each due date you will do well in the classroom. He curved every test we took and offered an extra credit opportunity that would go towards the final test grade and communicated thoroughly.
Dr. Allen is a great professor who cares about his students and how they will succeed in his class. Must order a textbook to participate in his class and do the assignments. If you have taken a biology course before this then it will be easy.
Professor Allen was truly great! I had taken this course 2 times already, was not successful either time. He does a great job of choosing supplemental videos that help you understand each unit. Mr. Allen also shares "worksheets" which are super helpful for each test. Most importantly he gives extra credit opportunities and curves test grades.
Dr. Allen is an amazing professor! He's thorough, organized, and he promptly responds to his students. He offers a variety of resources and learning materials. My challenge was taking this class during a Summer session. I wish I could've taken this class in the Fall. Besides that, I loved taking his class, and I highly recommend it!
This professor was very easy to know exactly what is required and when it's due. He sent out the syllabus beforehand so you could plan around other classes or work. During this 6 week course, it was a lot of work but worth it to get a class done during the summer. Also easy to communicate with via Remind or D2L.
Professor Allen is very clear about his expectations of the course. He follows the syllabus, your grade is based on your assignments and effort. The summer course is a high-speed phase so there is lots of work. Professor Allen also uses remind, messages, and emails to clarify what assignments are due and the submission date. Great professor!
The professor has very strict testing guidelines including showing your id and being seating at a desk. There is a lot of homework and if you miss assignments he will not let you take partial credit. The test are hard the class average was failing most of the time.
Do not take this class as an online class or a condensed course, I made the mistake of both. This is way too much work to complete in 6 weeks. I don't think Prof. Allen should have made the course so dense but I don't know how it compares to others. Overall, Prof. Allen was a very understanding professor and offered good pre recorded lectures.
I took Dr. Allen for Biology for non Science Majors online and I really enjoyed it. Although it was a lot of work since it was a summer class, Dr. Allen gave us all the reasources that were needed in order to pass all the exams.
D2L is organized, it's by chapter and has all the information you need. He uses Remind for communication which made things easy. There is 5 exams and 1 Final. The exams were all lockdown browser and the rest of the assignments were through McGraw Hill Connect and most were completion grades. Prof Allen made BIOL 1408 easy and I would recommend him.
Summer 6Wk course online. 5 Exams & Final make up 60% of grade, rest of 40% are many, but not long assignments. Exams use lockdown browser & are recorded, which is actually not an issue like many think. Exams are 50 q's, the questions are very simple (like vocabulary q's). Curves exam grades class avg. on exams ~68, but ends up curved to like ~80.
Professor Allen kept up good communication and had a very organized D2L. I would take him again. Great Professor.
Professor Allen does a great job presenting material and providing resources for additional understanding. The class schedule/syllabus was clear and concise which I found extremely helpful for time management.
I highly recommend Dr.Allen, I took the summer course so it was a lot of work and a lot of reading in a short amount of time but, the way he organized things made it very easy to get through. Exams and finals are lockdown browser and webcam.
Mostly a self-taught class using McGraw-Hill, tests can be tough and are proctor, but he gave grade curves. Quizzes and homework are easy also with multiple choice. Would have take him again if I could.
Fair professor. If you do the work and put forth the effort, he notices and works with you as much as he can. Exams carry a lot of weight so if you're not a great test-taker, try to study more and you should be okay. His online content was very organized, everything was easy to find, he was very responsive, & I feel I learned a lot.
labs and notes were every thorough & grades assignments in a timely manner. 8 week class was actually pretty cool compared to what i thought it was going to be.
Dr. Allen was a great proffesor! Really clear grading guidelines and syllabus! There are a decent amount of assignments = not graded on a few things, so good in the long run. Often curved tests help the class out. Provided a lot of resources & would send out reminders & tips frequently. Easy to contact (Remind/D2L), & responds quickly!
Dr. Allen's Biology class was very well organized. The course material was challenging, however he provides so much supporting material in addition to study guides and lectures that I was able to successfully complete the online course. I only wish that he taught more science classes at LSC!
You need to pay attention to all of the assignments and materials in order to pass.
Dr Allen puts a lot of effort into ensuring his students succeed. He provides worksheets which help with exam prep, in addition to study guides and he holds a review session for every exam. He is always willing to help students outside of class and he keeps students engaged during lectures by videos, pictures, etc
Dr. Allen is a great professor. He gives you clear feedback on what you need to know on the test. He provides worksheets that are like the chapters and reviews. Dr. Allen makes the class fun and exciting ready to learn new material. He's not a passive lecture professor. Also, LAB IS VERY FUN! This class requires studying and using time wisely.
I have taken this professor for both Microbiology 2420 and Biology 1408. He is great but the material to learn is not easy. He provides many resources besides the textbook to learn the material such as videos and links. He cares about his students and he gives extra credit opportunities and review sessions before a test.
Professor Allen was very helpful and understanding all you have to do is reach out, 4 tests are based on the pictures of each chapter from the textbook (understand don't just memorize). In the lab practical, there are 2 (memorize).
Microbiology is hard! But this professor is really good. You can ask him as many questions as you want until you understand the material. You have to study because it's a lot of information to learn and he will help you with that, and tests are hard but he would have extra time after class for the reviews for the tests. Don't take this class online
The class isn't hard unless you make a hard. The professor provides a textbook which is mandatory, and videos. You don't really need the videos in order to pass, but I found watching the videos drastically improved my grade from a B to an A.
I enjoyed having Professor Allen as an instructor. While the coursework can be heavy, I split it into two days to make it easier. He was very understanding and helpful towards me when I had some issues come up that made taking the class a bit difficult. This class does use lockdown browser for the exams, but he does curve the exam grades.
Tough class, but well worth it. The labs rocked and generated excitement for the impending results. If you're into laboratory work this class is going be awesome for you as this comprises the majority of the class time. Dr. Allen is a true educator, tough but fair. You will work. When you pass his class you will definitely have learned something.
Professor Allen has been among the best science professors I've ever had the privilege to attend. I took his microbiology class with the expectation of the class being difficult, but Professor Allen made the entire process enjoyable. It would be best to read the textbook before class. Overall, I would highly recommend taking his class.
Professor Allen is a good professor and very organized for each topic you're learning that week he'll try his best to help you understand it whether it was him putting videos about the topic or explaining it with slideshows. When it comes to exams he is understanding and will try to curve your grade. The class is not hard at all.
I would take this professor again. He is organized and everything is pretty much straightforward. I recommend to study for the exams they are proctored and not easy.
Be ready to do homework every week and a lot of it but it will be helpful in understanding the material. Textbooks are required. If you can read chapters/labs before class it will be helpful! Dr. Allen takes lab protocols very serious so make sure you pay attention. Studying outside of class is time consuming so make sure to manage time well.
Professor Allen is an excellent professor. He is very organized for each topic you are learning for that week. There are a lot of assignments to complete, but they are not that difficult as long as you read and understand the chapters. He is also understanding when it comes to exams, he will try to curve your grade if you have a bad score.
Professor was extremely knowledgeable in all the material. The class was lab heavy and he has lecture videos that helped learn the material.
Professor Allen is a very well-organized teacher. He did not drift from the syllabus which was extremely helpful. It is not lecture heavy; he typically provides the necessary information for tests. However, it is advised to review prior to entering class. Overall, as long as you study, it is not a difficult class.
Professor Allen teaches a phenomenal course for any student looking to get a science under his or her belt. Granted, there's a lot of homework, but as long as you put in the effort, you'll probably pass. I had a great time in the class with the labs, and I would be excited to take it again. Just review the materials and do the homework.
Dr. Allen is a well-organized professor who is willing to go the extra mile for his students to understand the material needed to succeed in this course. He was very understanding and helpful towards me when I had some issues come up that made taking the class a bit difficult. I would definitely take him again!!
The professor communicated a lot with us whenever we had upcoming assignments. There were a lot of assignments that were due a week but once the assignments were due every two weeks, it made the stress load a bit less. Overall be prepared for a lot of class work and make sure you study for your exams.
Professor Allen is a very structured professor with many assignments/labs to help you learn each unit. There's overwhelming amount of resources for extra help. The class is hard to maintain if you get behind but if you keep up your work you'll be fine. The tests were always 50 questions multiple choice, and curved if class has low grades.
Professor Allen is a understanding professor and as well as following the syllabus and keeping track of things. He gives you homework and assignments that are easy to complete and as well as giving you a quiz every week which should be easy as long as you study the lab review. Attendance is very important and paying attention to his lectures.
Dr. Allen is a great professor, I appreciated the various learning techniques so that each student could uniquely understand the material. He surely tries to make time for any student who needs one-on-one help or an overview of any lecture/ lab. Truly recommend taking his class.
Dr. Allen is an excellent professor. He is very organized for each topic you are learning for the week. There are a lot of assignments to complete, but they are not that hard if you read the ch
Dr. Allen is an outstanding professor. I always made myself get ready for his class because his class was fun. Microbiology is a tough class, but Dr. Allen was considerate and gave handouts and practice questions so that the students could learn the material easily. Stayed after class to review for upcoming exams. Was available after class.
Dr.Allen is a great professor. He really gets involved in teaching and is constantly trying to find different ways to make the material more easier. Microbiology is a hard course itself. It requires a lot of dedication. He gives great worksheets that simplifies the material. He also makes labs very fun to do and learn. I really enjoyed his class.
The course is very lab heavy. Prof Allen helps in anyway possible that you need while still expecting you to meet basic expectations like attendance and completing homework. He offers lab reviews and study guide packets to look back on. Only 2 homework assignments due a week normally. 4 lecture exams. 2 lab exams. Weekly quizzes based on lab work
Very good professor. It is lots of homework but overall it isn't difficult. He provides study guides for each exam, he responds quickly, and he keeps us motivated by sending us inspirational quotes to maintain us focused and progressing. I recommend!
allows time after class for help if needed. always stayed straight to the point and lets you know what you need to learn in order to be successful on tests. easy class if you're putting attention and participating.
Professor Allen is extremely helpful. Follow the syllabus and you will pass.
Very organized.
Dr. Allen is probably one of the most understanding professors I've had so far. He cares about his students and wants them to pass. Microbiology is already a difficult class but he does his best to simplify it the best he can.
Professor Allen is one of the best biology professors i've had so far. He is so caring and knows that the subject can be difficult. He goes out of his way to make sure we understand the subject. He offers tutoring during his office hours and reply's to emails as soon as he is able to. I recommend Professor Allen!!
Pretty good professor's lots of cool videos to go along with the lectures.
Pretty good professor with informational videos.
Dr. Allen was absolutely incredible. I only came to this campus solely for his teaching style. This course is lecture heavy but he is open to answering any questions. He has review days the class before the exam. Dr. Allen also provides curves on the exams and some extra credit. He actually cares about the success of his students and it shows!
Professor was great at teaching all of his students all the materials to help them pass! He also for eager to help everyone learn all the material!
great professor!! curved exams and really cared about students grades
Professor Allen, is very helpful and understanding the scientific method. I really like his class because he is organization. He has everything in ordered.
Professor Allen, a standout instructor, maintains excellent class organization. Navigating assignments, lecture videos, and study materials is effortless. Clear timelines for upcoming assignments facilitate efficient schedule planning. Unit exams, administered on lockdown browser, consist of multiple-choice questions, diligent study ensures success.
This was an easy class. There is a lot of reading and homework but it's not overwhelming. The class is very organized and he is very responsive. As long as you do your work and study for exams you can get an easy A in this class.
This professor has been one of the best professors I have ever had and he really cares. Not only does he reach out to you and send motivational posters here and there he really genuinely cares about his students and has a passion for what he does.
Professor Allen is caring and kind and is interested in the success of his students. He does review days in and outside of class along with curves. As with any science class, there is a lot of homework but it's easily managed. I would have him teach more classes.
Although my class is online, he makes sure you do not fail by curving exams and giving extra credit opportunities. There are a lot of assignments and labs to do, but it's very doable. He is also very sweet and sends things through remind every week.
the professor understands what the student need
His course is organized and follows his syllabus exactly. The homework, quizzes, and labs are all through the online textbook. He provides his recorded lectures and links for each chapter. Everything the student needs to know for an exam is directly from the coursework or mentioned in his lectures.
there's no zoom meetings.
I took this class for the spring semester because i needed a science credit! All assignments are though the online textbook which makes it pretty self efficient. I personally worked week by week, as i felt better prepared for the tests. All exams are proctored and gives you an extra challenge.
Dr. Allen is a really great biology teacher. His lectures are recorded and he provides a lot of helpful videos as well. If you're even thinking about taking him just do it.
By far one of the best professors I've ever had!! Professor Allen genuinely cares about the success of his students. The subject, of course, is difficult but he makes it a lot easier to understand. The tests are somewhat difficult but there are handouts that help a lot. If you are thinking of taking Microbiology, do it!! very fun class as well (:
Dr. Allen's class is awesome! He explains complex stuff clearly, gets us involved, and genuinely cares about our success. His passion for teaching makes learning enjoyable and meaningful. Highly recommend!
I took Professor Allen this Spring semester and I was very nervous because this course comes with a lot of work, but this professor made it very easy to understand and really cares about his students. Lab quizzes every Monday and 4 exams, he gives reviews and also reviews outside of class and provide us with worksheet to help us prepare
Amazing professor! Class time is mainly used on labs or reviewing the material for upcoming exams. Lecture videos and slides posted online for you to look at on your own time. Lab quizzes are at the beginning of class on the first class meeting of the week. McGraw Hill homework due every Friday.
Professor Allen hosted a great online class. His weekly assignments were the same format each week and he provided a clear structure. His tests definitely depend on you studying all of his recommended topics and he provided a curve to our grade. He also sometimes gave us two weeks to complete our work. I'd definitely take him again!
Professor Allen provides the students with many resources to study for this class. My only suggestion would be that he tell us which ones to mainly focus on for when we take the tests. The assignments themselves aren't hard, they are just time consuming. The tests are hard in my opinion, but he does give a curve which is really nice.
Professor Allen was great. He uses various teaching styles which personally helped throughout the course. Assignments weren't hard at all but they were tedious at times. Tests and lab practicals weren't too hard either as long as you studied. Keep in mind though he genuinely cares about the learning of his students and is always willing to help.
Great professor, he has a lot of videos that help you out with quizzes, tests, and labs. Also he has a remind that allows you to text him for help. Would him take him again.
Excellent professor! Would definitely take him again.
Actually the best professor I've had so far. The material is definitely difficult and takes time to understand but he would dedicate his own time outside of class to host study sessions to help us understand the material. He takes education seriously and cares about you and your grade.
really good professor who cares, curves grades, mcgrawhill connects due every friday, Tests were hard for me because i am bad at retaining info, gives broad reviews for each test. does offer extra credit, there is a lot of reading and labs online but those are easy if you put in the time.
Great Professor! Materials can be overwhelming but take advantage to study after class and ask questions at all times. He dedicates his own time outside of class to review topics that we need help with or to review test results. Also, participation matters in this course and completing mcgrawhill assignments every friday.
Dr. Allen truly cares for his students and helps them to succeed. Busy class, but if you do the work, you'll do fine! Assignments are in the online textbook. Study guides are provided for exams. Dr. Allen is very generous and curves grades, which helps tremendously! He's a great professor who's willing to work with you if you ever need help.
dr. allen's class is the best teacher i have taken at lone star!!! there is a lot of content in this class but if you just show up and put in the work you will be fine. he goes out of his way to ensure you are understanding the material. he is very accessible outside of class time to help you if you need it.
Good professor and has many resources for you to understand the lessons. All tests are proctored and have about 50 questions each with an hour to complete them. The tests are a bit hard but he gives a curve. There are many assignments but sometimes he gives two weeks to finish them. Overall not a terrible experience.
The most entertaining bio class I've ever taken. This class is lab focused but don't be intimidated. Lab grades are very easy and are done in groups. The non-lab side is very heavy and studying is essential to pass exams. The exams are very fair and Dr. Allen takes time to prepare everyone both in and out of class. Time flies quickly in this class.
best teacher I have ever had, I recommend taking him.
Dr.Allen is the best professor i've had at LSC, he really cares about his students and will make sure you pass if you dedicate time. He practices "active learning" over "passive learning" essentially making us teach other. There are lectures but its not traditional snooze fest lecture, he teaches us about what we're doing while performing the labs.
Dr. Allen is clear and respectful to the syllabus, and if you are, too, you'll find this class easy. It's all online and you can go at your own pace so long as you turn in everything by the deadline each week. A lot of digital labs, but they're manageable and can be fun sometimes. Just pay attention to the deadlines!
Dr Allen was an excellent teacher as he did communicate pretty often and seemed to look out for his students. He does use have a lot of assignments through McGraw but if you do them constantly, you should have a good grade. I would definitely recommend again!
Professor Allen was a great choice for taking Bio. Everything is outlined in the syllabus, and he explains perfectly all the work that needs to be done (and in WHICH order you should do them) to succeed in his class. The online lab work was pretty fun, and the lectures were all easy to understand. Take notes, complete all the HW and you'll do fine!
Professor Allen is a solid teacher. There's a lot of homework and the exams are tough. He provides the resources for you to be successful. Be aware of his Friday deadlines. He claims that it'll help people avoid procrastination but that's an assumption that all his students are full time students and don't work full time jobs during the week.
Best class I have ever had so far. Despite this class being very difficult the professor made it enjoyable and easy. He is always available to review topics and solve and clarify any questions or. He also offers test reviews outside the class schedule which are really helpful in preparing for the exams.
Professor Allen was GREAT ! His syllabus was very detailed and clear. This class was a lot of work weekly but very doable. Stay on top of deadlines and study PowerPoints you will pass. Professor was caring and understood life happens even in school. In addition, he is available on reminder where he encourages and gives you reminders of deadlines.
During my time being in this class, Professor Allen gave daily reminders and announcements as to when assignments would end, and is very organized when it comes to scheduling. He gives out extra credit to those who need it! My least favorite subject is Science, but the professor made biology work and understandable for me, I 100% recommend him!
Amazing professor I wish he taught more classes, if I were you i'd secure my spot asap! Dr.Allen is the head of the microbio department and he's very intelligent and devoted to teaching. He's also very patient and makes learning fun! If you want an A I recommend studying hard and utilizing kahoot games he makes! Overall no complaints, goodluck!
Dr.Allen has been very kind and seems to really care about his student being able to pass his class. He does curve test grades which has been very generous. There is a lot of homework/test but as long as you do the work you should pass. He has study guides for the exams, use them! I would take him again.
This course has been my favorite course to take at Lonestar College. Dr.Allen has a way of truly engaging his students with his lectures and is one of the most organized and caring professors I have had. This course is very homework heavy and you MUST study if you want to succeed, but if you just follow the syllabus and reminds, you will be fine.
Dr. Allen provides study guides for all exams, which are beneficial. He frequently sends out reminders and is organized throughout the course. He also holds exam reviews outside office hours for exam preparations. The tests are fairly straightforward. Overall, I 100% recommend him.
Dr. Allen is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. He cares for all of his students and always makes sure that they understand the material he is teaching/testing over. He is very lab heavy, which allows for hands on learning. He is a jokester, but also very serious about biology! Dr. Allen is the perfect professor and I would love to take BIO2420 all over.
100% reccomend Dr. Allen. He really cares about his students and makes class fun! class is very lab heavy so make sure you study lecture material on your own time.
This was a great professor! The syllabus he provided was very clear, giving students so much advice to follow in order to succeed. Even though there was a lot of coursework, it was a 6 week class after all. However, it was all very doable. The prof was also very easy to reach (during office hours) and responded within a timely manner.
This professor was phenomenal. He replies fast to students, his knowledge is unmatched, and the workload can be done in 1-2 hours. It's not hard, and most of the work is for your benefit for the exams. Your grades are determined really from exams and other work gives little credit. Take him you won't regret. Make sure your schedule is cleared too.
Mr. Allen has clear instructions on due dates. He responds to emails quickly. There was a lot of homework for the 6-week course. Stay on top of the coursework; he DOES NOT accept late work. He provides plenty of videos & resources you learn the material for class. Allowed to work ahead of time. His exams are proctored with a webcam and lockdown.
Professor Allen was great! I took his six-week biology course. It was fast but not too much if you don't have much to do. Make sure you stick to the syllabus! He gave insightful feedback on assignments and tests. He is always approachable and responsive to questions. The course materials were well-organized, and deadlines were clearly communicated.
Highly recommend to students whose major isn't biology. Very easy to follow along and everything is organized very well. Professor responds to messages very quickly and kindly if you have any issues
This course was a minimester, so there was a lot of information to cover in a short period of time. However, Dr. Allen kept the course well-organized and provided a reference calendar for time management. As long as you hold yourself accountable and do the work, it's an easy pass. All exams except the final are graded on a raw average curve.
Professor Allen is very kind and respectful of everyone's time. He understands that people have other things outside of school and is willing to work with you. Amazing class taught by an even better professor. Beware class is extremely test heavy, and a lot of material is taught in the short time.
Overall difficult subjects and difficult material but lectures and assignments made it easier to understand. Very test heavy and requires a lot of review. Very helpful and quick to respond to questions and inquiries. A lot of tests and assignments due in a short amount of time each week.
If you take the class in the summer, you have around 2 chapters and 7 assignments every week, but all are very doable if you don't procrastinate. The instructor is also very clear on the assignment's order and provides lectures and YouTube videos that further explain the topic. Also, all the assignments are open so you can get ahead if you need to.
very clear intrusions, punctual and attentive
Heavy course load with many assignments and labs due in small increments of time, this was a summer 6 week semester. Overall the subject itself is difficult but his lectures and videos make the material easier to comprehend. He is quick to respond to messages or questions.
Heavy material during the six week summer course. He is also easy to get a hold of via Remind. Tests are a bit hard so make sure you study hard. No need to get hold of other resources from online. Professor Allen gives a lot of resources in his content. Definitely I would retake his class, but definitely not on the six week summer course.
I took a Summer biology course in an attempt to get a quick science credit to finish up my degree and Professor Allen was absolutely the best choice. The class is outlined incredibly well, none of the assignments are hard or very long and the exams were passable. He does use lockdown browser so heads up on that. Exam grades were curved.
It was all through McGraw Hill except for the exams. There were the chapter questions (33 questions), homework (20-30 questions), a chapter quiz (20 questions), then around 3-5 labs per chapter, then a lab quiz. Exams are proctored so you have to study but there were always curves except for the final! Great professor, just kind of a lot of work :)
Overall, just follow the test guides by reading all parts of the textbook that you need to. The connect assignment's are also fairly easy, mainly just completion. Overall, simple class if you take the time to study.
Honestly, this course was fairly easy, even though there is quite a load of work to do. As long as you stay on top of your assignments and study for the exams the course will be a breeze.
This is all you need to know: I would take this professor again 100%. Gives clear instructions and guidelines. Everything is organized and he provides recorded lectures and plenty of other resources. The study guide will be your best friend. This is a summer section so follow the flow of the class and keep up with the assignments and you'll be fine
I took Professor Allen during the summer online. He's a great teacher cares for the students and is easy and available to reach. I myself felt overwhelmed since the material of 16weeks was taught in such little time. But nothing to extreme. Does use lock down browser.
I took this during a summer session. Lots of homework and doesn't take late work, but curves all tests and gives extra credit on the final. He answers emails quickly and his lecture videos are very helpful.
Professor Allen's class is manageable if you stay on top of your tasks and study for the exams. He also provides you with assignment reminders via the Remind app. Therefore, you can also contact him through Remind if you have any questions. He does curve the exam grades but will not curve your final exam grade (He offers extra credit for the final)
Professor Allen's class covers a lot in a short time, but his clear instructions and resources like recorded lectures make it manageable. unstuckstudy ai's study tools were a big help for exam prep.
we had quizzes every week, we have 4 tests, 2 lab practicals and a final. Makes you buy a lab manual and 39 connect assignments. You need to make friends in this class if you want to pass. He barely teaches so you depend on yourself to teach each other. Stay on top of your work and do not lag behind
Dr. Allen was one of the best professors i've had. He genuinely cared for his and consistently encouraged us to reach out whenever we needed help. The lectures were more self taught than in class, but he provided us a good amount of resources to study from. I HIGHLY recommend this professor!
Look, he's hard and a tough grader, I got a 67% on the first out of 5 exams. He then returned and bumped my grade by 11% because I followed his stupid grading rules. His deadlines are on Friday which sucks. Overall, he bumps up grades to passing and over, there's a lot of homework, his lectures are easy to understand, and the videos are helpful.
Other people's perspectives will probably differ. His teaching style is not suitable for me. Going to class, in my opinion, concentrates solely on the lab, leaving you to study on your own and locate additional materials for the lecture portion. Overall, getting an A in this class requires a high level of passion.
Dr. Allen is a great instructor who is very well-organized and structured. Recorded lectures and additional material available for use. He is very responsive, fair, and provides curves for tests where applicable. Use Smartbook recharge from weekly assignments to study for exams. Exams are proctored, but as long as you study, you can make an A.
Professor Allen is well-organized and has clear expectation. He provides recorded lectures and a lot of videos for the topics. He also gives extra credits and curves the exams. He really cares for his students, so I strongly recommend him.
This professor always gave everyone in my course extra points on test depending on the overall test grade.
Overall Professor Allen was a great Professor. From start to finish his class was very clear well organized. All exams is in lockdown browser with webcam.Prepare to read and study heavy work load but very manageable. Professor Allen was a great teacher he care about his students success.
Professor Allen is very well organized and clear in the deadlines of his assignments and exams. Studying is important to ensure you receive a good grade. You must be able to put in time to review the lessons and the materials.
The professor is very clear when discussing assignments and exams. He sends lots of reminders when assignments are due. The exams are not hard, but you will need to study for them. The professor is very accessible either online (via email/Zoom) or in person. I would highly recommend this professor.
He's a good professor, he's strict about timelines which I can understand but at the same time I am a full-time student and full-time employee. My warning to other students is make sure you leave time for his class. After work, I had to dedicate a chunk of time to his class. He rounds grades tho and I really appreciate that!
Professor Allen is great! Although he does give a good amount of work, it's not hard. He also gives great lectures that I found very helpful. I would love to take him again!
Professor Allen was fair, approachable, and always willing to help. He explained complex topics clearly and ensured everyone had the resources to succeed. His fairness in grading and dedication to students' learning made the class enjoyable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone taking biology!
Professor Allen was a great Professor, he is fair in grading and conveys the material very clearly. Any struggling that may happen in this course will not be Professor Allen's fault.
Dr. Allen was a very respectable professor, the class itself was a bit of a challenge only because Biology is a lot to digest and memorize, but he was very clear about the timeline and assignments. Everything was easy to follow and laid out perfectly. His Powerpoints were put together very well and his lectures had a lot of useful information.
If you want to teach yourself, go ahead take him. His teaching style consist of him making you read the material on your own and when asked a question his go-to was "I don't know you tell me?" Even though he never taught us the material. He was also very disrespectful at times.
Course is difficult cool guy strict about being in class quizzes weekly abt previous week & for new week HAVE to memorize bacteria results need to purchase book for course grades on lab skills grades to determine unknown bacteria Practicals are easy lectures are hard more of a university professor, relieved is done Take him 2be challenge
Very difficult class; he does not teach well and when you do ask questions he makes you feel dumb and says this is basic that you should of learned in AnP.Thank God prof allen got promoted to deancause if it wasn't for that I wouldn't of passed the class. Reviews weren't good or even on exams, quizes every week. Take prof Elder instead hes great!!!
Need an excuse to drop out of college? This is it
This professor stressed out a lot of students. Quizzes every week, exams are hard, he quizzes us on thing he has not taught us. The textbook and the manual needs to be purchased. Please stop deleting students comments. Please use this feedback to be a better prof. not by stressing us out and wanting to drop out.
Pls take in-class chemistry, you've been warned. I had so much work and was faced with little to no help from the professor. Only had to take this because it was a required core class. !!!!
Prof Allen is not a good prof. quizzes every week and will not give you extra time even though he'll be late to class. Lecture heavy and study guides he gave us was not helpful for the exam. I am glad we had another prof take over while he went away for the 2nd half of the semester. If it wasn't for that I would drop this class, big NO DO NOT TAKE
Do not take unless you like to suffer. He's a very direct instructor with no mercy! lab heavy, barley lectures, and if you're confused, don't even bother asking him a question because it won't help, he'll just confuse you more and make you feel like an idiot. Now let's move on to the test because he doesn't lecture ur on ur own and they're hard!
Ok professor, there is a lot of reading and homework, very fast paced but able to pass if you keep up with the workload.
I took this as on online class so it was definitely a lot of work, so staying on top of it matters! You will fall behind, it's better to work ahead. There are video resources that were super helpful and practice worksheets that helped with going over the information more. He is available for zoom reviews if you request it.
This course is very time consuming and has a lot of reading. Also, you can't use any type of notes on quizzes. You have to do an environmental check to make sure your desk is clear of anything. I haven't had to do a environmental check before. The good thing about the class was the professor did use grading curve so your grade could improve.
Lots of reading. Professor provided slides for each chapter, multiple lectures, and chapter reading guides. You're not able to use notes or textbook for your exams, and you're required to use the Respondus Lockdown browser with webcam. The professor communicated well. Overall, the professor was respectful, and the class was well organized.
Professor Allen is a great professor. His course is very practically structured. He provides weekly reminders of due dates and the workload is manageable as long as you do NOT procrastinate. Deadlines are firm in this class, you also HAVE to buy a textbook in order to be successful. Don't procrastinate his class, and you'll do great! :)
Pay attention and do the work. It's that simple to pass this class. Biology is one of the harder subjects for me but professor Allen made it simple. Grading is clear, deadlines are clear. There is a bit of work but as long as you just do the work this class is doable, also watch the lectures. They help tremendously with the exams. Would take again.
Provides material suitable for different types of learners. In this case, being a visual learner, it was very helpful watching the Youtube videos that were provided in the course material.
do not take he is a horrible proffesor, does not teach well and when you ask questions he tells you you should of learned this in ANP
I LOVE prof ALLEN he is amazing at what he does sad I won't see him anymore but I'm begging you to take him he is very easy but get ready to cancel plans with friends and family!
Be ready to study for a few hours! but he does help you when you have a question and he does TEACH via online video he recorded and is a very fast communicator he cares for ALL his STUDENTS. Keep in mind I took summer class it was fast paced but I study and did my work and I got an A .
He stays organized and responds quickly to questions. His recorded lectures and detailed feedback on assignments made the course feel manageable, even when the material got tough. I appreciated how approachable and respectful he was throughout the semester. Highly recommend taking his class if you want to really learn biology!
There were many resources for those who learn in different ways. He provides video resources, there are different forms of homework, and there is a textbook. He is organized and everything is easy access and not difficult to find. Great Professor!
Was pretty decent overall. I would recommend to take this class during the Spring/Fall course where you can go according with your schedule. But if you love biology and are very interested in it then taking it in the Summer is not bad at all.
Professor Allen was very clear about how the class works and how important deadlines were. He was always available to answer emails in a timely manner. Do not take his syllabus lightly. What is stated is how the class goes. He is very straight forward, but willing to provide the help for you to be successful.
This professor was honestly really organized. I enjoyed the clear structure he gave us on how the entire semester was going to be laid out. I was never thrown off guard or felt confused about an assignment. I took his class during summer, therefore making it a shorter term and still managed to complete work on time whilst maintaining a social life!
Good teacher overall just watch his videos on the chapters, take notes on them, and study and you will be set
He is not understanding at all. He hardly teaches and just gives youtube videos and makes you read the textbook instead of doing his job. Would not recommend.
There was a bit of a learning curve for me regarding how to study for his exams, but once I figured it out, my test grade soared. He has plenty of materials to go over if you have questions that weren't covered in the textbook itself, and he seems to give good feedback if you ask him directly (I haven't personally, so I couldn't confirm or deny).
Dr. Allen is very understanding! Explains things clearly and keeps the class organized. Assignments are straightforward and he actually wants students to understand the material. Would take again
Honestly, he is exactly how a professor should be. There is a lot of homework, and there are 6 total exams, which are lockdown and webcam, but that forces you to actually learn. As long as you pay attention and study, then you'll do fine. Although I struggled due to my own actions, I actually learned and enjoyed his class!
Best Professor for BIO 1408- online.
I took this class online and it was not very difficult at all. There are a lot of assignments to do every week on top of the exams, but as long as you manage your time well, you should be fine. Also, make sure to study for exams as they require lockdown browser. Overall, it's a good class and is easy if you put in effort.
I took this class online, and I would recommend it. There is a lot of homework given that is due every Friday, and 6 exams throughout the course. The material isn't that hard because he gives you multiple lectures and YouTube videos. If you're good at managing assignments, you should definitely take this class!
I just wanted to say that he is a good professor and communication is clear, and he always make an effort to help students.
I took Professor Allen's BIOL 1408 online. The workload is heavy with lots of assignments, but everything is clear and organized. Exams require LockDown Browser and a webcam at home, or you can take them at the Lone Star Testing Center without a webcam. He is polite and professional, and while the class is a lot of work, I would take it again.
He's a good professor, but you need to make sure to study harder and be prepared if you want to get a good grade in exams, especially when it comes to online classes. You can either take the exams at home with a webcam on, or you can go to the LSC testing center without the webcam. Other than that, the professor is very organized and prepares you.
He was great.
