Excellent, Passionate Prof. Very approachable outside of class. Best to read the material to help with discussion.
Best Prof I've had at University of Winnipeg. He's passionate and classes are interesting. Also just a nice NORMAL guy. Much Respect.
The readings are pretty difficult but if you go to class he explains all of them very thoroughly. Seriously great lectures that can get repetitive but, if you pay attention you're guaranteed to pass. Wonderful class, highly recommend.
This class is nothing like you'd expect. As an environmental science student I was looking forward to this class but it was a huge disappointment. There are way too many readings and the moral of each of them is the same which makes it difficult to write well on the papers and exams. Nice guy but tough grader for a course that was way too much work
Not an easy class but genuine guy. Super approachable and if you have trouble, he will definitely help you so you do better in class
just read the materials and attend classes and you'll be fine. Chris is a great person and a very inspirational instructor. Cares a lot about the students and makes it easy to success even for people who's first language isn't English. Very recommended. No need to buy a textbook, all the readings are online. Don't be intimidated on the first class.
Good professor but extremely hard marker. You have to attend class in order to make any sense of the readings as he doesn't use a textbook, just free readings on Nexus or through the library online. Doesn't really talk about ethics today, just how philosophers viewed nature through the years.
the readings are tough and there was one per week to learn, it's best to really get a grip on your understanding of them. Classes were great in that Chris's lecture slides were clear in deciphering a hard text. Appreciated how dedicated he was to his job, super approachable and kind. But what you put in is also what you get out of this course.
very understanding and nice professor!!
Chris is an amazing prof. He gives interesting lectures that won't make you bored. Gives lots of chances to re submit work which is extremely nice to have. Assigns a lot of readings which are difficult and mandatory for the final exam. Would 100% take again.
Chris is a wonderful professor and person who will go out of his way to help each and every single one of his students. But if you dont keep up with all of the readings, a new one each week, and dont come to class regularly, you probably wont pass.
Good philosophy professor, lecturer. Really enjoys discussing topics and encourages class discussion and questions (dont worry - participation is optional. But he does mark attendance) Only a couple times was I really bored in class. He made sure all required readings were public domain or free. Marks essays pretty hard but tests a bit easier.
Enthusiastic lecturer who genuinely wants students to take away something from each class. I found taking notes during Chris's lectures really helped me make sense of the assigned readings. Chris is a very fair marker who, I found, was willing to go the extra mile to make sure you presented your best work/assignments if you ask for help.
He was very nice, and if you had any questions about the class he would make time to meet with you to make sure you understood the material.
Chris is a very passionate prof and his lectures really show his character. He makes it easy to stay interested as he always comes in full of life and expression. As long as you pay attention, he provides great explanations to understand the difficult concepts and makes them a lot more approachable. Would definitely take a class with him again.
Dr. Araujo is probably the nicest prof I have ever encountered throughout university. He is very accommodating and understanding. Gives you many opportunities to improve your grade if you care. He is also an incredible, well learned lecturer. Would recommend him to anyone!!!
Easily the best Prof at the University of Winnipeg. I've never seen anyone with such a passion for the content that they teach. Very interesting to listen to, offers interesting literature with just the right amount of challenge. Also a very sympathetic and all around pleasant individual. The world needs more instructors like Chris.
Absolutely amazing and passionate teacher. I have him for introduction to Sociology and he has the most awesome and well-done lectures ever. Veryyy interesting to listen to. Cares very much about his students and makes clear outlines for each test. Only thing is that there's a lot of readings and they're pretty difficult but not impossible!
Dr. Araujo is a great lecturer. However, for an intro to soc course I feel like he's not teaching the foundations needed to really get a grasp of what exactly sociology is. He brings in big names to his assigned readings with little background, I wish I was learning about the different soc approaches before learning the protestant reformation?
He is the best lecturer I've had, bar none. He breaks down concepts and explains them in a clear and simple manner. He lectures with passion which is rare. He will give you test questions in advance and sets the bar high accordingly. Anyone would benefit from taking a class with him even if it isn't their major.
I chose to take this course because i found the topic interesting, but after regularly bugging him to talk about politics/philosophy after class Chris has become an inspiration to me as a fellow progressive. He is v flexible with extensions, and you can see how much he cares about teaching students in his passionate lectures. Would drink beer with.
Chris gives the most incredible lectures. He makes sure his students understand the material and goes above and beyond to do so. There was one reading each week (often very hard material). I think I did about 2 readings and managed to pass with an A+. He grades on the harder side (to get an A+ you have to be at a "graduate level"). Great prof!
Interesting content and prof makes it clear and digestible, while offering genuine feedback and help to students. A smooth wave of learning.
Such a kind and caring prof! Approachable and genuinely wants to see his students succeed both in the class but in general. Super passionate about the material. Makes you want to do the work and engage with the material. In terms of grading - if you do the readings you will be A-ok. Definitely recommend if you get the chance.
Chris is one of the nicest, most caring profs I've ever had his class can be kinda heavy, lots of reading but he does such a good job explaining everything in lectures, he also wants all his students to be successful and genuinely cares about their lives and grades. I don't even like sociology like sociology but he made this class interesting!!!
Amazing prof, made my most difficult classes so much easier by making lectures interesting. Its obvious that he cares about the topic and his students; even in the middle of personal problems, he has been communicative and caring. Gives extensions and even gave me the chance to rewrite a paper that I did poorly on! Everyone needs to take his class
Chris is overall an amazing professor. Although the lectures are a little heavy, he does a great job explaining the readings. He goes above and beyond to accommodate his students. He puts his heart into teaching and you can tell! He is understanding, will give extensions and provides clear instructions. Take his classes!!
The lectures were very detailed and explained everything well. The readings can be tough, but get easier throughout the course. Overall, really enjoyable!
one of the best teachers ive come across at U of W he really cares about the topics he talks about and is willing to help you out.
Chris is passionate about philosophy and truly cares about his students. He makes the live lectures a fun and inclusive place to discuss just about anything related to philosophy. The pre-recorded lectures were interesting and made the more difficult concepts easier to grasp. 10/10 would recommend this course/prof
Professor Araujo clearly cares deeply about his students! He is very passionate about what he teaches and the class itself is very easy. I would have him as my teacher for every class if I could! A very understanding and kind man.
He is a very passionate professor who is considerate with extensions on assignments. VERY hard marker. topics discussed are okay, but the textbook has more interesting sociology topics that aren't taught. also find his lecture slides hard to navigate and read.
He's very nice and passionate about teaching but he marks very hard and gives very hard assignments. Doesn't mention he marks hard till after he marks the assignments. Has a final exam and wanted to add a essay portion when there already was a short answer section.
Dr. Araujo is one of very few professors I've ever had that really cares about his students. Aside from being a phenomenal professor, he is also a phenomenal person that will go out of his way to make sure you have success in his class. He truly is the nicest person and I highly recommend you take this course with him.
Chris Araujo is incredibly disrespectful when it comes the tone he uses when grading papers and replying to students. He is an impossibly hard grader, so if you want any chance of getting above B, go find a new prof. He treats his intro students like they should have the knowledge of professional sociologists. Causes anxiety in all his students.
Professor Araujo truly shocked me, in the best ways possible. He is a phenomenal professor who gives great feedback, cares so much about his students, and goes above and beyond in his teaching. He makes you care, and he cares about you. Any student would be lucky to have him. Very helpful, and receptive to his student's thoughts.
Great teacher. Super passionate about what he teaches.
Very tough grader unless you put in a lot of effort into sociology, is tough on grammatical errors and requires very in depth explanations but is not strict on due dates !
He is a great professor if you're looking to get the most out of your studies. He's a meticulous grader, and gave us the tools to succeed. He'll make you work for your mark, but he was transparent from day 1 with his expectations. He is tough with essays but makes up for it in participation marks and bonus assignments. Very lenient on due dates.
One of the best professors I've ever had. True academic and truly cares about making a dent in the universe. He should almost make a netflix/youtube show. Clear rubric. Contact him for further understanding if needed, he is super available through email/outside class. Don't be overly scared by the plagiarism lecture and just do as he suggests.
Ive had Chris for 2 different classes and I was able to succeed in both because of his detailed lectures and his passion for teaching made me want to do well. He is very understanding about extensions as well will give you the opportunity for bonus assignments if you do not do well on a paper. He is a tough grader so you must understand the readin
Very passionate about sociology!! uber interesting lectures. Favourite prof Ive ever had so far. If you can write well you are in luck - No tests, many papers instead. If you pay close attention to the lectures and how he explains everything you will get 100% in this course. Very kind and understanding when it comes to extentions and bonus marks
He was a really passionate and kind professor. He gave me as much time as I needed for an extension to come up with my best outcome. I would definitely retake this class again if I could.
This instructor is hilarious, however, gives vague feedback on how the grading was arrived at. The instructor is condescending and disorganized. Because of that, I recommend avoiding if you care about maintaining a good GPA.
Horrible, would avoid if you want to actually get a good grade and not effect your GPA i wish i read these before i got in this class, i would never reccomend him. Tough marker, condescending, assumes you should know this material already, and brags how he reports people for misconduct.
I this class and I would definitely take a similar course again. Chris cares about his students and their time, and he was very generous in providing extensions. He was very enthusiastic in lectures, and broke down the content in a way that was easy to understand. The course is reading heavy and Chris is a tough marker, but provides good feedback.
Chris was a wonderful understanding prof. He is passionate about the topics presented in class. This man has a kind soul, he makes sure his students are doing the best they can and make sure they are successful. If I could, I would definitely take a class with him again!
bless guy
Good prof, a lot of content as expected in a philosophy class. Cares for his student, marks very hard though.
Professor Araujo has set the bar high for many other professors. He is a kind and caring man who is very passionate about what he teaches and can capture his class with his enthusiasm and passion aswell as his humour. He cares for his students and wants everyone to do good in his class, and is very understanding.
this is an intro to sociology class, yet he expects you to be an expert before starting his course. the readings are difficult to understand, but that is the main topic of all the tests. The final assignment had little to no instructions on what needed to be covered. Very hard grader. Unless you love sociology I do not recommend his class.
I felt that this Prof had very high and unachievable expectations. You can follow every instruction in his rubrics and still get a C on your paper. He expects a level of understanding and knowledge of the subject matter far beyond the abilities of most undergraduate students.
His teaching is always very passionate, if you listen what he tells in class you will do good, if you wanna actually reflect on yourself, he is the man.
Overall, he is a fair professor. I really enjoyed his lectures as its clear how much passion he has for teaching. He is very personal and can be a tough grader, but goes out of his way to assure students understand the assignments & concepts. Would take again as he cares more about students than majority of profs at this school.
Chris is very passionate when it comes to philosophy as well as teaching, and is very nice and understanding. A prof that truly cares about his students and provides the resources needed to succeed in his class. That being said, he holds students to a very high academic standard, making him a pretty tough marker.
Do not choose professor
just an overall amazing guy,
He was always very well prepared and his lectures are great but he is a very critical marker and expects A LOT out his students and his notes are not the clearest in terms of what he wants until you submit a paper. Though he is very very generous in giving extensions.
One of the nicest and caring profs. Had a little incident with my assignment due to personal reasons. Gave me a second chance and reached out to make sure I could still reach out to him for any future references. He comes off tough but truly cares for his student and their future
Contrary to the positive reviews, this instructor was not very good. I had difficult time understanding course contents, and the markings for the assignments. Avoid if you can.
his lectures fr give me a headache, he YELL teaches and goes loud and quiet like he's acting or smith. I attended 2 lectures and that was it lol. ur whole grade is based off of 4 25% tests and he doesn't post lecture notes, nor allow you to take pictures of the board so you have to write fast, if you miss a class, you don't pass.
He actually cares about what is being thought and takes time to help students. Very lenient with extentions and missed dates.
His classes are very interesting and he keep his student engaged. You also have the opportunity to get extra work for grades.
The class was very reading material heavy, but he summarizes the concepts well in his lectures, so you don't have to read, but it is helpful. Was very passionate about the material and his lectures were very engaging. Grading also did not rely too much on exams, and he's a tough but fair grader.
Great lectures! The only class I actually looked forward to going to. Amazing lectures, but grades very hard. Expects a lot from his students. Great guy overall.
Would 100% recommend taking him!!!!! LITERARY THE BESTTT PROFF OUT THERREE!!! HESS SOO COOOOOOOLL!!!!!
Professor Araujo is one of the best professors I have had. He is very passionate in what he teaches. And, also he is very nice and caring in general. A great human! God bless him.
I don't know where to start top 3 best professors I've had at U of W very good lecture and very friendly will give you an opportunity to improve your grade if you don't like your test results just an amazing professor overall if you come to class and read the reading you'll fly by this class and learn very interesting topics in philosophy
I do not usually rate professors but for Christopher I had to, his course was one of the best I have had taken in University, he explains with a passion and encourages us to ask questions, he is humbe too, he also simplifies the concepts, he is a very good test maker, I would suggest you take his course at least once.
worst prof in the university, he is racist and has some kind of hatred towards international students, if you are and international student please avoid him and do not follow the good reviews that others wrote. i have wasted my time and worked hard to understand what he needs in the assignments. i think its just what he is a very bad prof
Chris is a very genuine, knowledgeable ,and humble. Chris showed nothing but respect and equality to all. His classes are hard, lots of reading, and you need to show up to receive a good mark. Its worth it just to be taught and get to know this guy. He is a loud prof during his passionate lectures, so if you prefer a monotone prof don't choose him.
Very tough grader
Christopher is a horrible professor. He doesn't even have a sociology degree and gives unclear assignments and makes his teaching assistants do all the grading. When I showed him their errors, he did not fix the problem. I filed a complaint against him and won. I'm shocked the university keeps hiring him. He must be friends with the chair or dean
genuinely cares and treats students like people not just students attending his class. the class is very lecture oriented since he doesn't upload anything on nexus, but his lectures are actually fun and interesting so going to class doesn't seem like a burden. plus he lets you make up for a grade if you need to. really cool guy too
understanding in case you miss the class . going to class make it is to understand the course . gives links to articles so no need for text book .
I've taken intro philosophy and found it boring, but Chris had a way of making it engaging! He is passionate about his work and really puts effort into his teaching. Says he's a tough grader but i found his case studies and tests to be graded reasonably. Just read what is required and understand the concepts and you'll be golden. Great guy!
The lecture delivery is effortful resourceful and it shows his passion. He is helpful and understanding.Attendance was not recorded, but he only shared his slides in class, so you must create notes on the vast knowledge.Provides reading materials so you do not have to spend money.3-noncumulative tests(long answers/essays) based on lectures/readings.
This prof is an EXTREMELY hard marker and your entire grade is determined by tests. I would highly recommend avoiding him if possible. Yes, he is passionate but he does not care if you fail and you will only do well if you have at least a few years of prior knowledge in the subject.
I had to drop Sociology course for this Instructor. I was hoping his class was good because of the reviews here, but most of these are wrong. I would Not recommend.
I would recommend that all business majors take this course to complete the corporate social responsibility requirement. I cannot tell you how humble and amazing this professor is! He is an asset to the University of Winnipeg.
Simplly full of himself and very tough grader.
Threatened me with expulsion because i had forgotten to include citations. Even though i included quotation marks and a bibliography. We then had a zoom call discussing it where he bragged about how many students hes expelled for plagiarism and how many international students hes sent back home. Worst professor i had in my 4 years.
Down to earth professor, knowledgeable and extremely passionate. Lectures are engaging and readings are not overwhelming. Available outside the class for extra conversation and extra credit. He wants students to succeed. Should be more than a contract professor, but I'm glad he's at UW. Worth meeting him.
If you can avoid him, please do! He tried to accuse me of plagiarism, and when I talked to him and showed him how I cited the work and paraphrased, he switched up and proceeded to just barely pass my papers and said it was too "wishy washy". He literally said in his own words that the philosopher's work we covered for said paper was wishy washy...
Worst prof, so full of himself. Obbsessed with kicking students out of the university. Please avoid if you can.
One of the best profs I've ever had! Although the content in all his classes is quite difficult, he makes it much more interesting and easier to digest. Lectures are always entertaining and informative, and he is always willing to help you if you don't understand anything. He cares about all his students and it shows in his teaching!
Amazing professor, very caring and passionate about the topic, I learned a lot
Actually cares about students, amazing professor.
This instructor's lectures and readings are all over the place. I regret taking a sociology course with him. I would not recommend to anyone.
This professor is very passionate about what he teaches. He's strict about academic integrity which I respect. He is a tough grader and course content is challenging. There was no guidance for those new to philosophy and he seems like he shows favouritism. He's knowledgeable but be prepared to work hard.
I took Chris' introduction to philosophy class. It was my first class taken in a university and he is truly the most inspiring and talented professor. He brought a whole new meaning to life in his teachings and I could not recommend this class enough. The required readings are slightly challenging but he is extremely helpful and supportive.
He is very kind and supportive. I don't understand where the bad rating comes from. He is very helpful and available outside the class, and he really helped me a lot in my first year.
