He is a phenomenal teacher.
Mr. Baker is a great teacher. He is always super helpful if you have questions on work. He is willing to help you better understand the material and truly cares for his students.
One of the best, nicest, and passionate teachers I have ever had. I am not a huge history or government person, but Baker makes the class fun and exciting!
This class was interactive and easy to follow. Ask questions and Mr. Baker does a good job of breaking it down to make it easier to understand. Make sure to follow the rubrics exactly on the papers and you will do great!
He made a subject I don't like actually captivating and kind of fun
Mostly textbook readings, but his lectures are more like a conversation.
Now listen. I'm gonna be completely honest and say that I'm doing really bad in this class. However, I'd like to clarify that I recognize that this is completely on me, as even I can tell that Mr. Baker is a really good teacher. I wish I could've done better in this class, both because of the grade, and because I truly do respect him as a professor
He is an incredible teacher whose lectures are more like conversations. Hes very understanding about many things but like everyone, he has his limits. Hes an OUTSTANDING grader. He always makes sure to grade reasonably and without delay. Just try not to miss class, pay attention, and youd have more fun in the class than intended.
A typical semester of Mr. Baker's class goes like this: You do a bit of textbook reading and in the next class he goes over it and we discuss it. We do 4 position papers in a semester, and the week before we have a midterm/final he goes over any questions we may have. As long as you do the work, take some notes, and stay on track, you will do good.
10/100 amazing teacher!
The class is taught well and enjoyable if you participate. He also grades assignments in a timely manner.
This class is a great way to get started with Government. It's very discussion based and there's a lot of opportunity to ask questions and be involved in what direction the class takes. Mr. Baker is very clear and direct but also easy to talk to and runs an engaging and entertaining class. I would definitely recommend this class.
Mr. Baker has been a great teacher! It is noticeable that he cares about each individual student and works his best to accommodate to all. He is somewhat lenient when it comes to grades, but won't give you a good grade unless you work for it.
Mr. Baker is my favorite. If you need help he will help you no problem. He definitely looks out for his students. He wants nothing more than his students' success. His grading is very fair, though. He definitely won't give anyone an A who doesn't deserve it.
He is very engaging in new topics to learn about. He always summits grades so you know where your at in class. He also takes the time so show you where you went wrong and helps you improve.
Mr Baker is a very smart, honest, and all-around great teacher. What I love about this class is were not always super technical and overwhelming, but we would always take time to talk about current events and have class debates! I would recommend this class to anyone who appreciates a hands-on, nice, and helpful professor.
Mr. Baker is a great teacher if you want to learn more about how government functions in the U.S. He does a good job of bringing up current events and moderating discussions about how they impact our current political and social climate while also remaining neutral.
He is an amazing teacher he gives good lectures and is very caring.
He actually teaches the material and gives lots of opportunities to ask any question about topics. All questions are welcome in his class. His syllabus is also a good representation of the workload in class. He's very organized and gets grades done early.
Mr. Baker is quite honestly the BEST professor you will ever take. He gives amazing and informative lectures, assigns thought provoking assignments, and cares about the wellbeing of his students. Being apart of one of his classes is like being a part of a family. If I could go back and take this class again I would.
Very great teacher with a very reasonable amount of work. Even through zoom, kept class interesting and engaging. Made the topics fun to learn about and in turn made the class very easy.
Taking Mr. Baker's class would be a great choice for anyone considering taking a government class. The bulk of your work will be in writing position papers and readings. While there is quite a bit of work, Mr. Baker does a great job of diving deeper into interesting topics and current events that apply to us. I highly recommend this class.
I've had professor Baker when I was a freshman in high school and luckily now I was able to have him for Pls 211 and 212. The theme of his classes are always the same, just pay attention and get your work done and you will get an A. He makes the expectations clear. He is just an overall good guy and if you try and work hard you should get an A.
Mr. Baker was a fun teacher.
Mr. Baker is an excellent teacher. He sets clear grading guidelines, gives out detailed instructions, and gives you a calendar and plans ahead for assignments in a way that make his class very easy to follow and easy to stay up to date on assignments. He is a huge fan of the textbook so be prepared to read! He also loves class participation.
I had Mr. Baker for PLS 211 and PLS 212 and it was a great experience. Due dates for assignments are given with plenty of notice. Mr. Baker always tried to connect what we learned to current events which made the class more interesting. I highly recommend taking this course; as long as you do your work on time and put in effort, you should do well.
I took PLS 211 and 212 with Mr. Baker and it was great. He's very clear about assignments and their due dates and he will remind you about due dates too. He cracks jokes too so its definitely not a boring class.
Great Teacher. Actually teaches the material and takes time to explain it. Gives great feedback for improvement. He gives reasonable due dates as well. Pay attention and do your work on time and you will pass his class. 10/10 would recommend.
I've known multiple people who have had Mr. Baker from my middle school to high school, he is super nice, funny, chill but still serious. He is pretty accessible outside of class, personally his homework was not hard and it may be because he was very clear on what we needed to do. Honestly, one of my favorite teachers.
Mr. Baker is a great teacher, who is straight to the point with his expectations for assignments. I particularly enjoyed the senate scenarios which gave us the chance to be involved. Mr. Baker cares about his students. I took this political science even though I'm a science major just to get a feel of this field and I have not been disappointed.
Mr. Baker has been an amazing teacher and I have loved being in his class. I had him not only this year for PLS 211 and 212, but my 10th grade year as well, I have sincerely enjoyed my time in his class!
I took Prof Baker through the online course with zoom. He expects you to attend all zooms, he talks a lot and although there was a bit of reading I didn't find it overwhelming. He doesn't give a lot of work which is great but he does require you to be up to date with current events and be able to have a discussion. A few papers and weekly quizzes.
Excellent professor!
I really enjoyed the class. The lectures are interesting and not standard power point read off. The conversations apply politics to real life. Cares about students. Make sure that you do the reading. Tests are computer generated so a little difficult to know what will be on the test. Tests are NOT heavily weighted. Follow rubric on papers.
The textbook wasn't that overwhelming. This class had four papers and weekly quizzes, as well as some class assignments. The instructor was able to explain topics that were easier to understand. Overall, I would recommend this class.
Very personal and provides excellent feedback for assignments which creates a great learning environment and experience.
I've had this teacher for two years and I can proudly say that he's one of the best teachers I've had throughout my learning career. Very clear yet strict on both due dates and grading criteria. One of my favorite things about him is he's very mindful of people's opinions as well as making it enjoyable and engaging when talking about politics.
Mr. Baker's teaching skills are top notch. He doesn't convey information with to unnecessary complicated words and speaks with a clear loud voice, so everyone can hear him. He also gives us enough time to complete our work. You can expect half the class time to be used for discussing about real time events.
PLS135 is one of the best classes I have taken. Each class began with an open discussion about current events, which broadened my political view and kept me informed. Due dates are clearly defined and the projects are interesting and relevant. Mr. Baker responded to my emails very quickly. Thank you for a great year!
Mr. Baker was an amazing teacher, his class was never something I had to stress about. At the same time, I was able to grasp a good understanding of our government and how it functions. Overall, the class was really enjoyable, educational, and a great way to end high school.
Mr.Baker has been one of the best teacher I've ever had. His teaching keeps the class involved and understanding world situations. He spends time talking about things the students really care about but makes sure everyone is knowledgeable about what we need to know. I highly recommend this class to anyone. It's genuinely so fun and you'll love it!
Mr Baker's class was amazing. We spent the beginning of class speaking our opinions on current events and news. The lectures weren't incredibly long but I still walked away knowing information I didn't know before. He was easy to contact, always responded to emails. He also grades assignments as soon as he can so grades were always up to date!
He's a really easy going teacher and the workload isn't bad you just gotta actually do the work.
Great Class I was not able to attend a ton of them due to work constraints but the ones I was at the class had very thought provoking conversations and lectures were very interesting. The workload was manageable and easy to complete on time with great feedback on the work.
Mr. Baker was proficient professor who has a deep understanding and expertise on PLS 135. He stayed updated with the latest advancements and research in society, enabling him to provide accurate and relevant information to us. His expertise allowed us to address complex topics, answer questions, and provide valuable insights beyond the textbook.
Mr. Baker is a great professor for government classes. He is very clear with assignments and has easy to read rubrics that he keeps strictly too. Furthermore, he tells you when certain content will be on an exam in his class. Overall, a great teacher who hosts a great class.
Very good professor, good amount of work but prepares you for any test or project.
Mr. Baker is such an awesome teacher. He always starts class with a discussion of current events which is always interesting. He then leads us into lecture time, but the topics are very interesting and is of course very fun. The assignments are often done in class which is why the class is so easy. I just love his class.
He is very nice and gives lots of time for assignments.
Take this class. As long as you follow the rubric and turn your work in on time, you get a 100. He is a very nice teacher and you can tell he is very passionate about politics. Only test in the class is a midterm (which isn't hard). Grades primarily from position papers(which are also easy) and he talks about news and current events each class.
Mr. Baker is a brilliant teacher. If you have a question, he will not only answer but ensure you understand by giving examples, etc. His teaching style is lectures and he does enjoy talking alot, so there's that. All of it points to what we are learning in the textbook though. Good class overrall. Note that he doesn't really take stuff late.
Mr. Baker was always gave help when needed and covered all material clearly.
Knowledgeable + engaging instructor who truly cares about students' success Patient/willing to assist and answer questions Enjoyable learning experience Manageable workload, and thought-provoking discussions. Inclusive and respectful environment No sense of bias when grading or hearing different perspectives
This professor was clearly the best option for a US Gov. teacher. He made class interesting and understandable. Discussions were fun and unbiased. His teaching style made it easy to understand the material. 10/10 would take Mr. Baker's class again.
Mr. Baker is a great teacher! Definitely would recommend you take his class, the curriculum is very straight- forward. He has a lot of class discussions and his lectures are very engaging!
Course was light on lecture, generally work independently on assignments Doesn't tolerate late work at all
I took PLS 135 online. Class time was mostly spent discussing current events and how they tied into the unit we were on. Grades were made up of weekly quizzes (10 questions based off of a reading) and four papers 500-700 words long. This was easier than the AP social studies courses I took in high school, not to mention with a better teacher!
- Engaging and knowledgeable of the subject matter - Effective use of current U.S. and international real-world examples - Emphasis on critical thinking and independent analysis of subject matter - Prompt and constructive feedback - Valuable and intellectually stimulating learning experience - A lot of reading required to excell
Overall, Professor Baker is a great professor for this class! He strongly encourages class discussion, especially about current events. He has a schedule for the entire semester and lays out what and when everything is due. There are only 4 papers and he usually provides the sources that will be needed. 10/10 would have him as a professor again.
Mr. Baker was a wonderful professor; he constantly goes over the news in the world today during every Zoom class, which helps you correlate what is happening to the topic of the week and shows how government changes periodically. Mr. Baker also provides honest feedback and a rubric for all papers that are assigned.
This specific course in my experience with this course is that its a very light load with the work. If you are good at writing clear and concise essays then you should be fine since that is a huge component to the overall grade.
I have to say out of all the professors from NOVA,Professor Baker is amazing, caring, and knowledgeable of what he is teaching. The professor makes the class think outside the box and very interesting. I would recommend him to anyone!!
The Professor is incredibly knowledgeable and approachable. His organized lectures and prompt feedback enhance the learning experience. Consideration for late submissions would benefit students managing multiple responsibilities, like full time work, kids and school. Regardless, grateful for the opportunity to learn from him.
I've had him twice now, and i loved him as my professor! He's clear on when giving lectures and gives good feedback for papers. Question of the days were so much fun and a great way to know each other.
Nice Professor. You pass as long as you turn in the work on time. If you have good writing skills, you would be fine in this class.
I took him when I was in high school and now again in college. He's honestly really good and knows his material really well. Would make zoom classes fun with ice breakers to get us to talk. Straight forward grader. Tells you all his expectations straight up from day 1. He's awesome in my opinion as long as you keep up with your work.
I would rate my professor 10/10 very good!
I highly recommend Professor Mr. Baker 's class to everyone. His teaching style is engaging and fun, making the lectures enjoyable for everyone. I learned a lot from his class and found it to be incredibly valuable. Overall, a great professor!"
Great course, highly recommend
Amazing professor, all of the assignments were clear and were relatively easy to do. He is very helpful and replies fast to any questions. 10/10
Easyyyy course! The lectures are so fun and engaging. He made my life easy. Please take him!
He is AMAZING! I would recommend him a million times. There are weekly quizzes, but they are easy if you read what he provides for that week. The 4 major papers are worth 80% of your final grade but he gives ample time to work on them. He responds quickly and is just an overall great professor! 10/10!
It was a well-paced course, but there was plenty of time to do the work, and it was not overwhelming.
This class was so easy and enjoyable. No tests, the entire grade is based off of 4 papers that are throughout the unit. Super clear grading instructions and expectations. Mr. Baker is a super chill and fun guy who genuinely loves this topic.
Mr. Baker was a really nice and reasonable teacher. He posted assignments way before they were due making it easy to turn stuff in on time. Additionally, every assignment had a clear rubric to follow. I really enjoyed his class and found it easy to pay attention and learn.
Great teacher, one of the best teachers I have had. The amount of work was fair, and he always gives clear answers.
This class was pretty easy, nothing too difficult as long as you paid attention in class and took good notes. The quizzes weren't too hard and questions came directly from the notes and lectures in class.
very good teacher, I would definitely take his class again
Best professor. Funniest person to talk to and cares about his students, I would 100% take a class by him again!
He's awesome. He is super helpful and has a great balance of jokes and lessons. I would definitely take his class again!
Just turn in assignments on time, make conversation with him, and make sure your writing and discussion skills are decent. Lots of in class discussions and writing assignments that I personally enjoyed.
If you are engaged in class and participate in conversations, the class will be 100% more interesting and fun.
yaps a lot in the beginning of every class, which can sometimes be annoying but is definitely helpful in being kept up to date with current events. Additionally, position papers are annoying but simple and quick to do and worth a large portion of the grade. Very satisfied with this class and glad I chose it over AP as it is slower paced and easier.
Really nice and learned a lot.
Mr Baker was such a good teacher. He inspired me to pursue my passion for political science, so if you're even a little bit interested, he'll for sure get you passionate about the topic.
Super relatable and actually makes learning fun! On of the best teachers I've ever had!
I enjoyed this class because it was broken up into a lot of smaller, more frequent quizzes instead of a larger test after many different topics, so it took off a lot of the stress. Mr. Baker really likes getting the class to engage in discussions, especially about current events.
Very good teacher, he gives very interesting and engaging lectures. No tests and most grades come from the papers you will write.
I think that he engaged with the class a lot, I could tell that he loves teaching and I learned a lot. I like that Mr. Baker was always there to answer questions and encouraged them. He talked through the material instead of giving self assignments which helped me stay interested
He talks about current topics in our life and I believe its really helpful for younger people to form a full opinion and this class has helped me really understand where I am politically.
Everything that is written on the board when writing notes is exactly what you will find on the quizzes so taking notes and pay attention is very helpful when studying for the quizzes. Socratic Seminars are a smart way to get us to discuss our feelings on specific topics and encourage us to come together as a class.
Professor Baker was great, be prepared to talk as there's a lot of debating and back and forth open discussion. Overall a great teacher and person very open to any conversation about politics and the class overall.
Being in Mr. Baker's class is such a fun experience. He takes the time to get to know his students and really listens to their aspirations or struggles. You won't feel like you are lost or struggle with keeping track of assignments, as he is organized and an expert in his subject. I am sad that I won't have him as my teacher again.
I really enjoyed the class.
One of my favorite professors of all time. He teaches in a way that's understandable, clear, relevant, and interesting. He's also really knowledgeable about all the units and topics we covered and could answer any questions. He really encouraged dialogue and debate among students through current events which made the class more interactive.
His teaching style was fun and kept the class interesting, he made even the boring topics enjoyable. He was always respectful, helpful, and made sure students felt comfortable asking questions. One of the most entertaining and easy-to-follow professors I've had!
I enjoyed this course a lot due to Mr. Baker's form of teaching. He kept the beginning of every class fun and engaging by bringing in current events relating to the topics he taught us. He's pushed everyone to develop and advocate for their own beliefs through Senate scenarios and class discussions, which has helped me in public speaking.
Good professor that keeps you aware that you are the only person responsible for your grade. I only got a bad grade because I did not turn things in on time, but I knew that. Mr. Baker is a great professor as he is REAL. He keeps it real and honest, and I appreciate that. I may have not been the best student, but I always held respect for him.
One of the kindest, fun, and helpful professors of all time. He didn't only have the ability to help us understand the lessons better, but he would also keep the class enjoyable. He gave us the opportunity to say and develop our own opinions and beliefs in position papers, Senate scenarios, and class discussions.
super nice and funny! clear grader make sure you do your work on time though.
He's really chill. He sets clear, attainable expectations, so there's really no excuses if you don't meet them. If you meet them, you get an A. I liked him a lot. Class and assignments were really simple and straight to the point.
Professor Baker has a lecture-heavy but also laid back teaching style. My class with him would frequently spend a lot of time discussing current events and openly sharing our thoughts on them. Assignments were just difficult enough and structured in a way that kept me working without being overwhelmed.
gave good feedback on papers and answers all questions you might have with a good answer
