Definitely recommend him. I am taking him again next semester for a different class since now I know his teaching style and expectations. He explains things thoroughly and makes sure every lecture is fulfilling. He understands the material can be boring, but attempts to make it as interesting as possible.I like him. I'm surprised he has no reviews?
He didn't elaborate that well in psychology. I would recommend that you take psych stats and neuroscience before taking this class. Whenever he would mention things in lecture he would assume you know terms so which is why I recommend taking this class later. He gives no study guides and there are no homework assignments besides some stats program
Notice that the grader who rated him poorly wouldn't share their grade. This is a wonderful processor who cares about his students and tries to create a welcoming and fun environment.
I would Definitely recommend him. He is great, I really like his teaching methods. Never really a dull moment, he attempts to make material as interesting as possible. His teaching style and expectations are clear, and he's very understanding. Lastly, get ready to read the text book, and go over power point slides for exams and/or quizzes.
This is one of the most honest & involved professors I have had at UIC. He does not talk down to you & is ready to tell the truth about life after graduation with a psychology degree. He teaches a great field work course & you get the sense he really believes in your success if you put in the work & are not scared to take risks or ask for help.
Nice guy, funny. Show up and do the work and its fairly easy
He posts lectures that are fill in the blank which are nice. 4 homework assignments and they are not that bad. He teaches SPSS which is a godsend. He assigns short papers but grades them hardcore.
One of the best professors I have had. Adds a lot of humor to the lectures and enjoys talking about current events. Has a lot of interesting things to say. The class has powerpoint "shells" that you download from Blackboard and then fill in the blanks in class. Laptops are allowed. Would love to have this professor again, highly recommend.
HE is funny, smart, and his class is enjoyable.
This was an awesome class, very interesting. The professor is really passionate for his work and this shows in his performance. Also he provides multiple perspectives on the information he presents. He clearly expresses what he expects when it comes to homework and papers. I would definitely take this class again!
Professor Baker is great. The homework assignments are clear cut, lectures are fill in the blank, and tests are super difficult. He's pretty funny and super friendly, wish I could take him for another class!
Professor Baker gives really good lectures. The tests are based on powerpoints. And, you have to fill out the powerpoints, which means you can't skip class. If you come to class and pay attention-you will get a good grade!
Two projects that are really bad. He should just make students write a research paper than have to do those horrible projects.
Professor Baker was great, entertaining, easy short essays, lots of opportunity for extra credit. He does not take attendance which was great but uses slides that can only be seen in class for teaching.
I love Baker, he's one of the coolest professors I've had in a long time. The class wasn't too hard, and it was manageable. I'm definitely taking him in the future!
One of my favorite professors. He really cares about the class and wants you to get something out of it. Exams are based off both power points and the book as well as the class speakers. Make sure you go to class because his power points are fill in the blank
I have had Dr. Baker for Community Psychology (PSCH231) & Developmental Psychology (PSCH320). He is a funny professor and who does a great job at teaching totally different types of material. He is realistic about the class and is very fair. Gives a 2-3 exams and 2 papers usually. Then there are opportunities for extra credit! Take his classes!!!
I'm not one to give respect for the fact that someone has a degree, it doesn't make you any better than me. I do have to say Dr. Baker earned my respect, by far the most mature and realistic professor I have encountered. He caught me sleeping in class ones and with concern asked "if everything was okay?" He could've had bashed me but instead cared
I took developmental psych with him and regret it. I am a graduating psych major this year and this is my first time not getting an A in any psych class I've ever taken. I actually got a C in the class. The way the class is structured is horrible. He is fairly new at UIC so hopefully he changes up the set up of the course.
His voice stopped me from going to class on most days. I couldn't tolerate it. Other than that it was an alright class. The TA graded the project essays very harshly and a lot of people ended up with B's in the class.
Dr. Baker is probably one of the best professors here at UIC. He is very knowledgeable, but he's a down-to-earth guy. I really recommend taking him. He tries to engage the class, and his expectations are very fair. If you do the work and study, it's an easy A. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Baker is one of the best professors I've taken at UIC. He is hardworking, hilarious, dedicated, and cares deeply about his students. In his community psych class, we had to tackle a problem and seek to change it as group. It was hard but also rewarding. But he's amazing! I have learned lessons that I will carry for the rest of my life! :)
Professor Baker is probably one of the best professors here at UIC. He is dedicated, he cares about his students, and he's involved on campus. He is very funny during lecture but is also extremely clear on the material. Exams are typically based off a the slides, so go to lecture. Aside from that he is definitely top 3 in my book, no doubt.
If you're going to take the 385 course for applied psychology, take it with him! He deeply cares for all of his students and even brought us food at 8AM. I'm a graduating psychology student and only wish he came to UIC sooner so that I could have taken more classes with him. This is his first year at UIC and has already won the silver circle award!
Great professor, really cares about his students and is passionate about teaching. He made his exams crystal clear to understand. He makes class interesting and is hilarious!
I love him! Literally the best professor I've had here. His classes are funny & he really helps during his office hours. He's a very fair teacher.
Professor Baker is my third favorite professor at uic. He is so funny, he makes lectures more interesting. The exams are super easy if you come to class and pay attention. You don't really have to look at the book, although he does say that you will use the book. The lectures are interesting and funny. Taking developmental psych with him was fun.
Very clear grading criteria, Lecture heavy, but very funny guy. You NEED to go to class or at least get lecture notes from someone. YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK. Their is a PDF so look for it don't waste your money. Test are very detailed so be prepared. There is also a GROUP PROJECTS, but if you do good you don't have to take the final.
Lectures are as straightforward as they can get. If you can have these sent to you, you really don't need to attend class, but why wouldn't you? Entertaining and engaging speaker. Was willing to go far beyond to help students with their projects. Wore the same outfit the entire semester.
Dr. Baker was the one professor out of my 3 1/2 years at UIC so far that I have thoroughly been able to pay attention and actually enjoy his lectures/style of teaching. In addition, he also rounds grades if he considers you fit and deserving of such. All in all, show up, glance the textbook, study his slides and you'll be gucci.
Dr. Baker was the one professor out of my 3 1/2 years at UIC so far that I have thoroughly been able to pay attention and actually enjoy his lectures/style of teaching. All in all, show up, glance the textbook, study his slides and you'll be gucci. Wore same outfit entire semester #keepitclassy
Professor Baker will recognize potential in you if you really try and put in effort. He's very genuine and straight forward. His lectures were straight forward but if you're the type of person who needs extra time to understand material I highly doubt you visit his office hours he's always willing to help. I would definitely recommend him.
Baker is a great professor. Exams are straightforward. Lectures can be interesting. He also offered a small extra credit project at the end. Really enjoyed it
awesome professor, you will learn a lot with him
Dope professor, really modern and hip. Really chill, you have to come to class to take notes. Requires 2 papers and 2 exams and you may or may not take the final depending on how good you do with the in-class group project. This is not an easy class, you will learn alot of material.
I adored Professor Baker because he was hilarious and made lectures entertaining. He goes off on tangents about things like mayonnaise and cigarettes, but he's very lovable. Really knowledgable about his field and I'm definitely going to be taking another one of his classes
Studied at several colleges over 5+ years. Favorite professor thus far. You must come to lectures as slides are incomplete, but I literally looked forward to them! You also learn material you will actually apply later on! If u are willing to come and study it's an easy A. I highly recommend Dr. Baker. (No book needed, tests from slides)
Amazing professor. Lectures are fill in the blank type so make sure you're coming to class and filling them out. Exams are basically straight from his lectures. 2 papers, fairly simple. 2 exams and the final exam might be given or not given based on class success on a group project. Overall he's a cool, funny guy and is worth taking!
He posts lecture slides online but leaves some slides blank. You need to show up to lecture to get the information for the slides and it's usually key info. Two exams (not including the final which you don't have to take if your group is productive enough) and two papers which are easy.
Gret prof would definitely take again. Very relatable lectures and super passionate about what he teaches about. He makes classes as easy and understandable as he can and he tries to help grades too.
He posts the lectures online and leaves some slides empty which you fill out during class. Which is how almost everyone did it. Exams are based off the lecture slides and some off the book, no study guide but I just used the slides and I did good. Final for this course was taken the week before finals! He's a caring and funny guy I would take him!
Cool professor, pretty funny. Attendance is mandatory to fill in blank notes. Baker gives out extra credit (around ten points) but he offers less as the semester wears on. As long as you show up to class, study the notes, and don't cram last minute you'll do fine. Book isn't necessary, don't listen if he says otherwise, even he hated the book.
Best professor of all times. Words cannot describe how much this man inspired me and made me wanna be a professor. He makes class fun and interesting. I probably had him for 4 different classes. AMAZING. Easy classes if you study powerpoint for exams.
-He makes it easy to take notes. -Class time flies by, he keeps it interesting. -If you miss class you won't have those notes. -Easy grader! -Class project
-Lecture structure makes it easy to follow and take notes -SPSS Training for major assignments, you miss and you'll be lost. -Assignments aren't difficult if you attend class
Baker is the easiest A youll ever score. All you need to do is show up for a majority of the classes. He is hilarious and keeps the class so interesting that you honestly wouldnt want to skip class. All tests are straightforward from the lecture slides and all are multiple choice. Theres a little extra credit. Hes worth it!
Youll learn a lot in this class that will help you as a person long-term. His teaching approach is very multidisciplinary! Lots of activities and community engagement in this class, fairly easy A. Theres some extra credit. If the class is high energy and participative, he will cancel the final exam. Textbook helpful for shortessay on test.
Baker was an amazing professor. He taught with passion and that carried over to the students. He is a very relaxed guy and only expects students to remain respectful in class. It is understandable and very likable!
His class is based on his lectures. To get notes, you have to go to class and fill in the blanks on his posted powerpoints. His exams are fairly doable and easy as long as you review the powerpoints in depth. Listen to what he says in class, take notes on stuff he mentions, they can show up on the exam. He's also really funny. Participate in class
Best professor at UIC. Attend lecture & take notes, study them for exams and it's an easy A. Lectures are really interesting & he does a great job keeping you engaged! Class project replaces the final if the class is engaged.
Dr. Baker is extremely concise, clear, and understandable. He explains concepts really well and loves to teach. His tests (3 including final) and quizzes (two) are SUPER easy as long as you study the content in the slides. He drops your lowest two discussion section grades (which can include quizzes). He also offers extra credit!
Professor Baker's class structure is great. He only gives three exams and they're fairly easy. If he could teach all PSCH courses that'd be fantastic.
Professor Baker is one of my favorite professors! I have taken him 2 semesters in a row about to be 3 for next semester. He gave us 3 exams, open notes quiz. He also did offer extra credit! I would love to have him as a professor for all my classes. If I were you I would take him!
Baker was a solid choice for a psych professor. His class was very easy. He had 3 exams none of which were during finals week. Discussion is mandatory as you get assignments to do and the 2 lowest assignments are dropped. Go to lecture because he leaves slides blank when he posts them online. Honestly just look over power point slides.
Professor is great, will be taking another class with him next semester. His way of teaching is great and has you learning. He gets straight to the point with things and does not get off track. His voice is weird but you'll get used to it.
He's a really chill professor! You only get graded by 3 exams (no final), 3 quizzes, 2 short papers, and attending at least 8 discussion sections (no homework). His exams and quizzes are based on lecture so you have to attend for the most part and he puts in options on tests that are funny. Overall a very good professor, I definitely recommend!
Baker is funny. Best teacher I have had & probably why he won an award for teaching. Hes laid back & is clear on whats happening & when. Its almost impossible to not get an A. Most of the material for the powerpoints are up & you go to fill in what he calls shell slides, if you cant make it ask a friend. He gives EC when attendance is low.
I have had baker for several classes and he is awesome. His lectures are clear and informational while being fun and engaging. He isn't a tough grader but you still learn stuff- he doesn't blow off the class. He actually cares about teaching and it shows.
This class is super easy to pass. Make sure to attend all ur discussion sections and complete the assigned papers. The papers are fairly easy since they are just a summary on articles. Study the lectures and materials used in discussion for the exams. GroupMe is also very useful to share study material for the class.
Prof. Baker is great! He makes things you've heard 1000 times interesting and memorable. He is fun and is totally honest about the stuff he is teaching. There is some small group work, but I really enjoyed the group I was in so it wasn't that bad. He is a great teacher all around! would definitely take him again
This is the worst professor Ive ever had in UIC. Definitely avoid him if you can.
Dr. Baker has been one of the most understanding professors I have ever had. Lecture heavy by tries to make them as interesting as he can. Gives extra credit and exams are multiple choice with a couple of short answers, but are easy. I would definitely retake a class with him!
He really makes the class enjoyable, coming to lectures and discussions is a must! The book wasn't necessary and his exams were not harsh. I would definitely take his class again
Prof. Baker is the best! He makes class fun, exams are legit his powerpoints, just study those. He even puts funny options on the exams. He makes lectures super fun, he made us sing along head shoulder knees and toes ahah. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, EASY A.
Dr. Baker is undoubtedly the most passionate, engaging, & considerate psych professor at UIC. He splits the community psych class into 2 tracks; one track is a group project, the other is just a paper & a quiz. He lets you choose the track that fits your learning style best, no judgement. Exams go by PowerPoints. GO TO CLASS, he posts shell slides.
Prof. Baker is the type of prof others should inspire to be. Deeply cared about students and their well being. He is a good lecturer and overall the most kind soul. He is one of the best psych professors Ive had.
He's the Best Professor I ever had in my life. So caring and gives good amount of extra credit. Exams are definitely easy A and his assignments are so fun (Sometimes he tell you to do Something for you and make yourself happy 10 points). Piece of advice - don't wait till last day his classes get full very quickly.
No group projects which is always a plus. Just do all the assignments and you will pass.
He is so great. humor is unmatched! He also has a great understanding of diversity and race . Though he doesn't explicitly say it too often i can tell he views all his students as capable and equal. Ive never had a white male professor like that before. He's truly a great teacher and i'd bet an even better person.
His lectures are actually interesting and he is engaging. Graded by a few assignments and quizzes. Attendance not mandatory but helpful for exams
Took this as a synchronous online class. He was an awesome professor. v chill and never wants to make you feel stupid for asking questions. He liked to play music every morning before class lol. He uses BB Collaborate and pretty much presents a simple ppt - but he's not boring! Just pay attn, do the assignments, and you'll do fine on the exams.
Very easy course and it's so interesting. I thought this course was going to be statistic and math heavy but no. Professor baker was very chill and caring. Tests were super easy. 5 papers overall and 2 exams. One of my favorite classes this semester.
Professor Baker is in my top 5 best professors list at UIC. I took him fall 2020 and he was so accommodating and was one of the only professors I had that realized we were in a pandemic. He is such a lively and funny guy that takes the time to make his lectures understandable. Did not make us get a textbook. Had 2 take home exams.
I can tell you he was the best professors I ever had here! Respectable, kind, and very fatherly! He is very real with you and intimate and really cares about the class. He will give you a B for just breathing give you a break from school (esp COVID making it stressful) but if u just do everything easy A. Chill for non-psych majors to breathe a lil
I LOVED Professor Baker. He is definitely one of the best professors I've taken so far. His class was very stress-free. This course was very light in terms of coursework which I am so thankful for. I have so much respect for Professor Baker because he understands that these are difficult times. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend him.
WHEN I TELL YOU HE IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFS AT UIC I MEAN IT. This is my 2nd class with him and he is beyond amazing. His lectures are fun and engaging. The course work manageable. Do yourself a favor and take any of his classes.
I have taken many of professor Baker's courses and I have no complaints! He truly love connecting with students and making them laugh because he understands the struggle. If you are a PSCH major you should take all the classes you can with him. He makes research based classes seem less daunting.
Just pay attention to his lectures and make sure to do your best on the assignments. This class is easy but make sure to do the required work.
Hes super understanding, funny and the work load is pretty easy as long as you take everything serious. It's not mandatory to attend class but it would be very helpful anyways if you do.
10/10 the type of Prof you want, he makes the class enjoyable and is a very knowledgeable guy. I would take any of his classes again anytime.
One of the best professors Ive had hes very clear on what he wants, there are not many assignments, and the quizzes and exams are not timed and are open note but he makes questions harder because of this
Professor Baker is by far the BEST psychology professor at UIC. I loved his class so much, I learned a lot and the work load was not tough at all. He is a professor who want his students to succeed and makes that completely possible. He understands that everyone is going through a tough time and makes it easy to communicate with him if need be.
Professor Baker is a nice person and I took his class before, but this semester he was weirdly tough. Not many assignments to give points and wasn't willing to help much for an exam he gave a very vague answer key for. I'm in my third year at UIC and this class will probably be my first B so it's frustrating. I'm not sure what happened to him.
The course material is really boring and I took the 9am class so I was losing sleep. That being said, he really tried to keep us all engaged with the class and wanted us to do well. He was very accommodating to those who are still struggling to get out of the pandemic doldrums and livestreamed his lectures on Blackboard. Take his class if you can.
The class is very straightforward, go to lectures which are usually slides but he gives sides notes to add to better understand. Class grades are just discussions, papers, and exams. Very good class but it can sometimes be easy to fall behind since everything was recorded lol.
Only a few assignments, a couple quizzes and two exams.
He's probably one of my favorite professors I've had so far. He gets off topic in lectures sometimes but it's pretty funny. The class was easy and interesting, you can basically find everything in the lecture slides for assignments and exams. Take advantage of the extra credit it helped my grade a lot at the end.
I honestly loved the professor and the class. I took this with a heavy course load and it was very manageable. This class is stress-free. Exams are fair and based on lecture slides, this class is organized and he's very considerate of others. There's only 2 exams, 3 assignments, and there's extra credit at the end
Professor Baker was an amazing professor. The textbook was optional. There were two exams, open book due to COVID and the exams were easy, they were short answer/questions.There were 3 writing assignments. Going to the lecture in person was optional, there was a zoom option because of COVID and the discussion section was mandatory.
Professor Baker is a great professor. He's funny, he's quirky, he conveys the material well. However, one thing you will come to learn is his protectiveness over his TA's. Again, not bad, however, you will have to cross your fingers and hope you do not get the TA who copies and pastes feedback because it can't be helped. Otherwise, super fun class!
LOVE Professor Baker. Such an amazing professor. He interacts with his students during lectures which I love because it helps me stay engaged and learn the material. I took the summer version of PSCH 320 so it was very fast-paced but easily manageable. I highly recommend Professor Baker.
To be honest, I felt like I just didn't learn that much. I wish it was more rigorous. I work better when the material is challenging. On the other hand, you guessed it: pretty easy class. Exams cover lecture slides.
Prof Baker was one of the most sarcastic & understanding professors I have taken so far. The syllabus states clearly the grade criteria, which is VERY self-explanatory and easy to get an A in. The exams are so easy if you attend the lectures and take a bit of note of what he says. 2 exams online, 3 written assignments & show up to lab for credit.
Great Professor. I was scared of this class because I am terrible at Statistics but he was clear and concise in his lectures. I learned alot about SPSS and enjoyed using it. His TA's were super helpful and patient with all the students during discussion. The professor is open to questions during lecture and one of the best teachers I've had at UIC
Horrible attitude.
Prof Baker is an amazing prof. Lectures are engaging, hilarious, thought-provoking. He's the type of prof to make u fall in love w pysch. If you haven't taken him before, grading can be tough. He allows you to use notes for exams and records classes, but the answers have to be exactly what he says in lecture otherwise it's hard to get points.
Not a clear communicator
TAKE HIM! I loved taking professor Baker. He was funny, kind, and understanding. I got covid at the end of the semester and he was very understanding and helpful for my make up exam. There weren't that many assignments and the only thing I had to show up for was discussion. I wish he could be my professor for every class to be honest lol.
Prof. Baker is was an ok professor for the format of the class. His lectures were sometimes difficult to follow especially with the content in the class and it being remote. Both tests for this class are all free response, so it can become difficult sometimes to get points if your answer is not very specific. Going to lectures and studying is key.
Baker was one of my favorite professors, his class is very lecture heavy but he made them interesting, he is very understanding. You only have 3 assignments and get points for discussions and tests were easy and straightforward. The class itself is kinda easy but highly recommend.
This man made this course an absolute breeze. It was entirely online with 4 homework assignments and 6 quizzes that were all 20 points each. He does allow for makeup quizzes, and there was a 20 point extra credit quiz offered at the end of the course before finals. He's hilarious & very caring! 10/10 would take again.
Great professor! His lectures are not boring and you will actually remember what you learned. Also had great TA's (I had Marika). Def take his classes you won't regret. Just remember to study. Even though he's nice doesn't mean the class is easy.
Professor Baker is a really nice and such a funny professor. The only thing I just didn't like was he just doesn't assign homework throughout the semester so your grade depends on TWO exams, AND you don't get a study guide for them. You have to make your own and hope you pass.
Prof. Baker is excellent, always engages w/ students, knows his stuff, happy to answer any questions. PSCH231 Spring 2023 was graded by 2 exams, each worth 50% of the grade. We could bring as many handwritten notes as we wanted to the exams. No homework, plenty of extra credit. Lectures were in person but also streamed on Blackboard and recorded.
He is a funny guy, and he live streams his lectures so attendance isn't mandatory, the lectures are also recorded and posted on BB. Take notes from lectures and read the books and you'll be fine, very easy class. There were also a total 10 extra credit points available.
amazing professor
Professor Baker is a great professor, his lectures are pretty interesting, and usually they end early. Your grade is heavily based on the quizzes and exams since the only other grade is discussion attendance. Easy enough course and you can find the book online for free. You can always attend online for lecture or just study the slides.
Professor Baker was fantastic, and I will be taking him next semester for PSYCH340. He is super funny and made a boring and complicated subject like research methods fun and simple. Pay attention in lectures, skim the book before quizzes and exams, and you'll do great. He LOVES to talk about music and will often relate it to lectures in some way.
Professor Baker is arguably the best professor in the Psychology department. I had him for PSCH242 and then PSCH340 in Fall24. He is engaging in his lectures, his classes are online, and he records and posts all of his lectures, so attendance is not required (but recommended). Please take him, you won't regret it. Quizzes are not difficult at all.
Best psych professor. Very dedicated. Two exams, 4 quizzes in discussion. Literally word from word from the lectures. He makes his class easy to understand and is just a fun person. He doesn't give homework except reading from the test book occasionally. Great guy overall and you can tell he enjoys what he teaches. I had him on zoom
He spends far too much time talking about things not related to the course. His grading criteria on quizzes and homework were unclear, and gave no feedback. Quizzes were all free response, which wasn't too bad. Don't bother emailing him if you want a response. When discussing course content, I found it interesting. He gave good examples.
He is great at teaching concepts in ways that are easy to understand. Class itself is not really hard or demanding. 4 quizzes and 2 exams, no homework or papers. Quizzes and exams are pretty straightforward and come from lectures. Everything is recorded and posted. Attendance not required for lecture, required for discussion though. Take him!
Professor Baker makes his online lectures really engaging and he likes to hear from students all the time, which I appreciate. His knowledge on the class subject is great, making the content of his lectures really interesting. I do wish that the class was graded on more than just four exams, but other than that PSCH320 was great!
Lectures can either be attended live or watch them on bb. They're super informative and interesting, and he provides a lot of real world examples. Only mandatory part is discussion every week. There's only a couple quizzes and 2 exams and that's it. Take notes from his lectures and you'll get an A. He's amazing at teaching, take him if you can!
Very knowledgeable and super nice. Chris will be missed
Great lectures and super knowledgeable. Best professor I've had at UIC, he will definitely be missed.
Professor Baker makes this class engaging and easy to understand. Lectures are super informative, and you can watch them online if needed. With some note-taking and using tools like Unstuck study, you'll ace the quizzes and exams. Definitely take this class if you can!
I had him for 3 different Psych classes and he was awesome every time. He was my favorite teacher at UIC because of his personality with how clear and concise he was with explaining things. He also did a good job of incorporating and supporting student feedback.
