Took this class with a breeze, overall attendance will greatly help your grade. He gives out study guides for each test which if you study it you'll ace the test. He's quite a lovely fellow and very willing to help students out.
He's easy-going. He really enjoys what he teaches and teaches it in a fun way. Provides fantastic study guides for tests and exams.
He was one of my favorite professors this semester, despite his awkwardness. Do your best to attend class. I didn't miss a class for my first test and ended up doing really well on it, but when I skipped classes before the second test I didn't do well. Pay attention to when he says things will be on the test. DO ALL THE READING ON TIME!!
Dr. Berk is easily one of my favorite professors. He has really interesting lectures, and is a really interesting guy. He is new to the South so it was fun to get an anthropologist's perspective on adjusting to Southern culture. Dr. Berk is also super insightful, and is always willing to share that insight. You won't regret taking his class.
Doesn't take attendance and lectures are usually online, but throws in a few things in class that are on the test. Gives a study guide. Tests are made up of mainly his slides which come almost directly from the book. There's another book that he gets a few questions each test from. Tests are easy and multiple choice. Gives short "lab" assignments.
Dr. Berk is a great teacher. The material is really interesting and he makes it approachable. There is a fair amount of reading, but it is all pretty straight-forward. Would definitely recommend.
Didn't know what anthropology was going into it, but now I would definitely take it again. You learn about people in this society as well as others. Lectures are long and sometimes tedious, but don't skip class. Stuff he lectures on will be on the test and not on slides. Worksheets took a few hours to do sometimes, not hard. Cancels ahead of time.
Loved Dr. Berk! He is so funny in the most sarcastic/awkward way. Lectures can be long, but he posts them all online; you just have to take good notes to do well on the test. Lab grades really do matter, can make or break your grade. Gives extra credit lab. He is very understanding and lenient with grading.
This is the nicest, most helpful, reasonable professor. He makes the class very interesting and test are not too hard, especially if you go to class because it is easy to remember what he talked about and he will give you hints at test questions. Definitely recommend!!
Pretty straightforward guy. Always advertising office hours. Class attendance is pretty important because he explains a lot of things that aren't on the lecture notes he posts.
Lectures are important as the test come from them however it is not ver batem, but more the concept. Lectures posted online but going to class helps. Didn't buy the books and did good without them.
Favorite class ever! He is super easy and very helpful if you have questions. Reading was helpful at times but mostly useless at times. While attendance was not mandatory, I would go because his power points can sometimes be confusing and he always gives direct 'hints' about what is on the test/ what to study!
Dr. Berk is the best! I was unsure if I would like anthropology but his lectures were so interesting and the readings out of Conflict and Conformity were so interesting! He really grabs your attention and is clearly passionate about the subject and often brings in his personal experiences while working with the Aboriginals in Tazmania.
You're so lucky if you have Dr. Berk! He is the friendliest professor I know, and he's super understanding. I just took Anthro as an elective, but I truly enjoyed his lectures. He brings humor and light into controversial topics. He's very approachable so if you have any questions or concerns, don't be shy! He really cares about his students.
He is a great professor and his lectures are interesting. He takes attendance 5 random times throughout the semester so I would recommend going to class. The exams are not very hard, but keep up with your reading.
Dr. Berk is the best teacher I have had since I have been at Auburn. His lectures are funny and corky and he doesn't make class mandatory. However, he does take attendance 5 times, but all the times he took it was when he played a film for the class or when something was due. Would for sure take again!
His lectures are long, but if you pay attention and take notes then you will do perfectly fine on the tests. There is some reading, but as long as you know the general idea of each article you'll be good. Extremely nice guy and is willing to help. Easy humanities credit.
I loved Dr. Berk. He was quirky and fun. His tests are more difficult than I thought they would be, but once I learned how to study for them I did good. The questions are not definitions, they are scenario-based. Study guides are LONG and a pain. But GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He will help you with any questions you have.
Takes attendance 5 times at random throughout the semester for a grade. There's a lot of reading, but if you skim the reading and take decent notes in class, you'll pass no problem, especially since he gives a study guide before each test for you to go off of. He genuinely loves this subject and tries to make class entertaining. Very approachable.
I really enjoyed Dr. Berk's class. It's lecture heavy, but he tries to make them as enjoyable as possible. His sense of humor makes the class fun. Definitely take his class if given the chance.
Such a kind and caring professor. His class was so fun and I loved it. His tests aren't hard and what he says will be on test is there. Definitely take him for anthropology if you have the chance.
I absolutely loved this class, and I'm a science major. Dr. Berk makes class fun and interesting. If you go to class and look over your notes, not much studying or reading is necessary, and the tests aren't hard. Also, attendance isn't mandatory, but it's worth it to go to class bc he hints as to what is on the test. LOVED THIS CLASS.
Dr. Berk was amazing! One of the best professors I have ever had at Auburn. He genuinely cared about his students and was extremely knowledgeable on the information. Would definitely recommend taking him and I would take him again.
Great teacher! Makes class interesting. I really never thought I would be good in an Anthropology class but it was my highest grade all semester!
He takes attendance at five random times a semester, but you don't have to go to every class. Lectures really help, but the best way to study is to use the power points he puts online and remember the little facts he tells you multiple times in class that will be on the test. You do have to study because his tests are all about applying knowledge
Fun lectures, clear study guides and interesting movies.
Dr. Berk is probably my favorite in the department. He teaches interesting classes, is always willing to share his research, and is engaged w/ students. I have yet to take a class with him that didn't revolutionize the way I think about Anth. I had to really work for my B in the upper level classes, and it was totally worth it. Take his class!!
I love Dr. Berk! He's really friendly and the class is easy if you pay attention and do the study guide!
Extremely passionate about his field and work and he'll do all he can to help you. He gives you easy access to everything you need to know for the tests, and it's easy to pass if you study the notes. I highly recommend taking more of his classes.
Dr. Berk was nice and it was an okay class. We watched films and did labs but he always read off a piece of paper instead of teaching the material. He takes attendance 5 times at random throughout the semester and only has 3 exams including the final.
His tests are HARD. He provides a study guide but even with that they're difficult. He is very passionate about the topic and makes the lectures somewhat fun.
Final isn't culumalative; its just the third test. Lectures can be boring at times but other times interesting. He is super nice and wants everyone to do well. Takes attendance 5 times a semester. Tests not too difficult, but some of the material came straight from lecture and was not in the online notes so pay attention in class! Highly recommend!
Easily my favorite teacher I've had at Auburn. He's so adorable and nerdy/quirky and carries a tote bag to class every day. His lectures are clear and easy to follow and I learned so much in this class. He is a kind and helpful professor. I am NOT an A student and made an A in this class. TAKE HIM!!!!
It was not a hard class, but he did focus in on things that he said you did not need to know and then they were on the test. You should read, but you don't have to in order to pass. He definitely knows what he's talking about and tries to make it relatable to you.
Dr. Berk clearly loves what he teaches. I don't particularly like ànthropology, but Dr. Berk's enthusiasm during his classes is incapsulating. He could make anyone interested in what he's talking about. He is unapologetically quirky and nerdy, in a good way. He is a wonderful professor.
I thought I was too cool for school(literally) the first couple of weeks and didn't go to class that often until the first test rolled around and I made a C. I started going to every class and made an A on every test from there on out. His lectures can be a little boring but they are interesting for the most part. He takes attendance randomly!
You can tell hes passionate about anthro!!! Hes funny and really relatable with his class. Easily one of my favorite professors at auburn, always has a grin on his face
Amazing professor, he makes lectures interesting. I have no intent on pursuing any career related to anthropology, but I still look forward to coming to this class each week. Attendance is taken 5 times at random per semester. Definitely would take this class again if I could.
Dr. Berk is an exceptional teacher. You can tell he is really passionate about Anthropology. He really keeps the class entertained with his dad jokes. Just be careful about the exams. You have to apply a good bit of what you learned than just using memorization.
AMAZING professor. Love his lectures and he is super interesting. Won't regret taking his class!!! TAKE HIM! 3 exams, no final. Gives a study guide before every exam. One of my favorite classes that I've taken at auburn.
The BEST professor at Auburn. GO TO CLASS!! His test are lecture based and not too challenging if you actually study. Great professor who LOVES what he does.
Dr. Berk is a good professor. Lectures get pretty boring, but the dude is highly awkward which makes for some funny moments. Only three tests which are pretty tough but if you go to class you should be good. Takes attendance five times randomly throughout the semester. Good class, not great.
He's very passionate but awkward, so it ends up being pretty funny. Attendance is taken 5 random times throughout the semester so go to class. Lots of work put in for the exams. There's 3 and they make up most of your grade. Read Kottak textbook and study his study guide and you will make an A on every exam
Dr. Berk is a really great professor!! While you have to study for tests and put in effort the tests are manageable and not that difficult. I would take this class again if I could, it was a great GPA booster.
I love Dr. Berk. Although I will say that his tests are not easy. You need to go to every class as the lectures are based off atleast 5-6 questions on the exam and they are not easy if you don't study them. Do the extra credit lab he offers, it saved my grade in the end. He is funny and cares about the topic so much! You won't regret taking him.
Dr. Berk was one of my favorite professors because he tried to make the lectures light-hearted and interesting. His final exam is non-cumulative, but his tests are quite wordy and full of definitions of terms we talked about in class. He is very knowledgeable in his field and he really seems to enjoy teaching. I would advocate for Dr. Berk's class.
Dr. Berk is so precious; he is one of my favorite professors. He is so passionate about his classes. His final is just the third test and his tests are based on the notes. He takes attendance 5 times randomly a semester and he gives a lot of hints as to what is on the test in class.
Berk is an amazing teacher who has really interesting lectures. He takes attendance randomly five times throughout the semester, but normally announces it the class before. His tests are really easy if you study the powerpoints, and his final is not cumulative. Only three exams and a couple of workbook assignments. Loved his class
I liked Dr. Berk a lot! He is kind of nerdy and lectures can be pretty boring. He gives thorough study guides for each test so use them! I never read the books, just know what the basic concepts are from each chapter assigned. Would take him again.
Berk is indeed precious. Take him if you can, he is a good lecturer and caring professor.
There were required readings almost every night for homework, but the exams were extremely lecture-based. Incredible professor, and an easy class if you do the outside work!
Do not believe anyone who says this class was easy or enjoyable. The lectures are unbearable and very much material is covered on each exam. The material is very specific and not common knowledge. There are many better choices to fill this requirement. This is class is miserable. AND this is coming from a smart, hard-working, involved student.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The info he makes you memorize is completely unnecessary and an insane amount of random facts. He makes it way harder than it should be for an introductory course. It takes lots of reading outside of class and even more preparation for each exam to get by with a decent grade. I am a straight A student & this plummeted my GPA
Lectures are long and unbearable. He is sweet but never specific on test material and leaves me very confused and lost on test information. I am a straight A student and this class lowered my GPA. I am not happy about it because this class should be like an elective and it was way too hard and taken way too seriously by Dr. Berk.
Just left my 2nd exam in his class. WOW. Insanely hard tests. I heard he was an easy A but he is far from it. If you are taking anthro because of a requirement, go for an easier teacher
I wouldn't write off Dr. Berk completely. I never did any of the readings unless I needed some extra clarification on a topic. His exams are indeed lecture based but he gives you a study guide and you can search for quizlets. He's also a sweet guy and not bad to listen to.
he's a nice guy but he takes random attendance throughout the semester and he lectures for the entire class. I thought his tests were hard for an entry level class. He does offer some extra credit assignments, but they barely brought my grade up by 1 point.
we don't deserve him!! he makes his lectures fun and interesting 10/10
Love this man. He is super quirky but if you embrace that is is a very enjoyable class. Super easy, made A's on all the tests with minimal studying. Easy A but I do recommend coming to class. (randomly takes attendance 5 times and its worth 5% of your grade. Gives study guides for test. Gives test hints in class.
Dr. Berk is the most precious teacher at Auburn. He is really passionate about the subject and makes the class really fair for students. You have plenty of opportunities to do well on easy assignments, his tests are not too difficult, and he curves tests on top of bonus points offered at the end so as long as you care you will have at least a B.
This class is easy if you just do the study guide and attend class. Berk the goat . The extra credit raises your average by 2 . And he puts big ole thicc curve 2nd exam.
I loved this professor, he's got dry humor that makes you cringe. His lectures are long but engaging. Make sure to do his assignments and get easy grades. read the study guides and you'll do fine on the 3 exams. Probably my favorite so far.
This class is boring, but if you show up and pay a little attention you will get an A. He takes attendance 5 times randomly throughout the semester, so you have to take the risk if skipping. There are class days that are dedicated to at home movie watching, which is always nice and he gives good study guides and uploads powerpoints to canvas.
Dr. Berk is amazing. Super nice guy. He takes attendance 5 times randomly over the semester. Gives a study guide for tests. Gives response assignments on canvas but they're short, easy and a good grade booster. He will give hints as to what is on the test, especially when not many people show up to class.
Dr. Berk was an amazing professor & I recommended all of my friends to take this course. It was fascinating, the classroom environment was enjoyable, and Berk truly cares about the students. There are 3 tests, hw assignments are mainly reflections, & there are extra credit opportunities. Attendance is taken at random 5 times. Take this class!
Dr. Berk is such a gem! He understands that most of his students are fulfilling a requirement by taking his class and doesn't make things harder than they have to be. He keeps his lectures entertaining with his "adorkable" cringey dad-style humor. Lots of homework (reflections/responses/labs) but if you follow instructions you'll get full credit.
Dr. Berk is a great professor. He definitely works to make his lectures interesting for the students. There are a fair number of responses and reflections due throughout the semester but they aren't hard. There are three tests (including the non-cumulative final) and he gives study guides. Overall I really enjoyed this class and I recommend Dr Berk
Dr. Berk is a great lecturer and always keeps class interesting. If you show up to class and complete the homework assignments, you will easily pass.
Dr. Berk is a really nice guy. He cares a lot about his students. He rounded my 89 to an A without me asking. He does 4 random attendance days but you can usually predict what days those are going to be. The assignments are easy, take 30 minutes MAX to do, and he grades them really easily. His tests are multiple-choice and straight forward.
Dr. Berk is an excellent choice for ANTH1000. I definitely considered this class an easy A. However, you DO have to study for the exams. 5 random attendance days that are worth a good portion of your grade. LOTS of reflections due outside of class which got old, but they were easy. He is so kind. If taking ANTH1000, you want Dr. Berk.
Dr. Berk is a great guy, and it comes through in his teaching. He's passionate about what he does and sincerely wants everyone in his class not only to succeed but to learn. It isn't the easiest class in the world, but as long as you study it isn't bad at all and pretty much everything you do is multiple choice.
Dr. Berk is hands down the best man alive and we must protect him at all costs, I cannot lie. Sweetest human ever and easy class if you do the work and the assignments. The assignments are due the hour before class, but he gives you until the end of the day to turn it in at no penalty. Take him if you can, you won't regret it!!!!!
I cannot talk more highly of this man. He understands what it is like to be a college student. His temperament made me want to learn and you can see that he truly cares and is so so passionate about his work. One of the best classes I have ever taken!!!!
Dr. Berk is the sweetest person ever. He is such a caring professor and very understanding. You must study for his tests in order to do well but he makes his lectures interesting and you can tell that it is his passion. He's funny and I would recommend taking him if you can.
You can tell that Dr. Berk cares about what he teaches and cares about the students. He makes the lectures somewhat interesting. If you go to class and study for the exams, it's an easy A.
Such a kind and caring professor. There are 5 mandatory attendance grades so don't skip. Test are easy if you study. Dr. Berk is one of the nicest people you'll meet.
I was dreading this course but Dr. Berk is such a great guy. He really cares about his students and you can tell he really enjoys teaching. Especially during online classes this semester he was extremely helpful and understanding. I would HIGHLY recommend him!!
Dr. Berk made anthropology super easy to understand and fun for me. His lectures were super interesting and he always made sure to engage the class. The only homework are discussion posts that don't take long and sometimes you can watch movies at home instead of go to class. Super caring and understanding especially about missing deadlines
Dr. Berk is truly an angel sent from God! His lectures were amazing, he always added in jokes and side remarks to make the content more related to us. I had him during the pandemic and he was the only professor to make everything so much simpler in his course. The material was kinda difficult and confusing but very interesting! 10/10 recommend!!!
No review of this man will do him justice, he is just too precious! You do need to study pretty well for the exams but he makes the class so effortless also! You actually learn and know that he cares for you. If you are having a bad day, literally going to this man's class will cheer you up. He will work with you if you just talk to him. Take him!!
I love Dr. Berk! The class material can be a little boring but take good notes. He is so precious that I didn't mind. I did the study guides and studied for 2 hrs tops for each test. The lowest I made was a 96. No cumulative final. There are assignments throughout the semester, but they're super easy and some of them were interesting. Take him!!
Ok like I don't understand why this professor has such a good rating, his test are HARD and I struggled to make a B on them. Like ok yeah he's kinda funny and nice but I would recommend taking another teacher/class if you need this class. Also his classes are sooooo boring like anthropology is not fun, don't take!
I never took this class, but I did sit in the Haley center while he taught a class (I was already studying there) and he was pretty chill and even asked if I wanted to participate in class. So, from that, he's probably a pretty chill guy. No idea what he actually does class-wise, though.
Dr. Berk is an amazing professor and personally one of my favorites. Anthropology isn't a subject for everyone but if you are interested then really Dr. Berk should be your number one choice.
His test are impossible, I'm a straight-A student and couldn't pass a single one of his tests. He is a caring and pretty cool professor but his test are heavy and you need to study once you start getting material.
Dr. Berk is so sweet. Definitely take this class if you have the chance. I did all the readings, but you arent tested on the textbook. There are a lot of assignments, but theyre small and easy. The lectures are interesting and, if you take notes and study using his study guides, youll ace the exams. Highly recommend!
By far the best and easiest professor Ive had! Super kind and caring and genuinely cares about you and your understanding of the class. HIGHLY recommended. Tests were easy if you payed attention to lectures and there was a lot of extra credit and fluff work.
He really cares about his students and wants all of them to succeed. He listens to what they have to say. Lectures are super engaging and he always tries to make them interesting and relatable. Exams are difficult, but all of the information is given if you just pay attention to detail.
Professor Berk is such a cool guy. This class is easy if you go to class, pay attention, and do the work.
Dr. Berk is such a great professor. My brother recommended him to me and I'm so glad I took his class. He's the reason I've become more interested in Anthropology. His class isn't exactly mandatory, he just randomly takes attendance 5 times a semester. I would definitely take him again. He does talk quick but listen to him speak and not the presen.
Dr. Berk is AMAZING. I am currently taking his course and I absolutely love him. I do not struggle on his tests and I haven't studied very much, but you do need to understand the material for the tests, i.e. show up and listen. If you still don't understand, review his slides and use his office hours. He sets you up for success.
If you are even considering taking anthropology as an elective, take him! He is the most amazing professor that cares about not only his students, but is passionate about his work too. Attendance is random, but attending class helps you tremendously for the exam. Lots of days we didn't even meet because we had at home films. TAKE HIM, its worth it!
Dr. Berk is an amazing professor! Anthropology is not something that interested me, but he made the material accessible and relatable (with one assignment even being listing songs about stages of a break-up). He does do random attendance checks throughout the semester so be sure you go to class but overall its great if you need an extra course!
Love Dr. Berk. If you only look at the slides, you won't do well. The trick is to have the slides already copied down before the lecture and then fill in extra info while he lectures. Goes through a lot of material at one time. If you are able to stay focused, go the extra mile on the notes, and study well, you'll do fine. 10/10 Prof
Dr. Berk is a great professor. He is a great person and cares about his students. Definitely recommend.
Dr. Berk is a cool guy. Cares about his class, and enjoys involvement. He does weekly discussion posts on either the lectures or readings, but it's nothing too terrible and generally interesting content. Learned some interesting stuff and had a few good laughs at some of Dr. Berk's corny jokes.
Dr. Berk is so sweet and really seems to enjoy his job. Although his tests have a lot of material, you are given so many opportunities to bring your grade up with easy assignments. He teaches very well and is clear about what will be on the test, just use the study guide he gives you.
Dr. Berk is very nice and truly cares and loves his job and his students. A lot of the material on the exams is about what he says in class. YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS to pass. attendance is a grade, 5 random days for attendance checks. my advice would be to write down notes from power point BEFORE class and then take notes about what he talks about.
Such a good teacher/ person. A fairly easy class that requires minimal work. Random attendance 5x in the whole semester. Homework due on Sunday nights takes minimal effort. Would highly recommend it.
Dr. Berk is the kindest man on the planet. He truly cares for his students and loves to talk about his cute son. Overall the class is difficult but if you put in the work you'll be okay. Weird concepts so if you're not truly interested in anthropology it can be difficult. Overall I give Dr. Berk a 10/10 and the 'easy-ness' of his class a 5/10.
Dr. Berk is the absolute best. Class is super interesting, nuanced, and complex. Don't take it if you don't want to learn and do the work to do so, but if you do take notes on the lectures, you really will learn and will be a okay. Go to class and interact with him one on one, he's super duper caring and kind, and passionate about his job!!
The lectures are a little boring sometimes but he is nice and the exams and homework are not that difficult at all.
I loved having Dr. Berk as a professor! attendance was not mandatory but he did take attendance 5 random times in the semester. However, I would highly suggest going to his lectures as they are super interesting and help you a lot on the homework and exams. The workload is very manageable and Dr. Berk is super funny and nice.
Professor Berk is such a sweet teacher and has open arms for all his students. He takes attendance randomly 5 time throughout semester. His class is not THAT difficult but I would recommend going to class and listen to the lecture to get a good grade.
Love Dr. Berk just not his class. His tests are very hard and it is all conceptual. There are assignments/reflections every week and multiple at home videos.
Dr. Berk is so kind and funny. Even if the material is a little dry on its own, he makes it interesting and relevant. He takes attendance five random times during the semester to use as an attendance grade. But I recommend going anyway because he gives a ton of the specific exam questions in class. Lots of assignments, but they are quick and easy.
He takes attendance randomly 5 times. I found this class really interesting and definitely recommend it. I found his tests pretty easy and he mentions some questions that will be on the test throughout lectures.
I loved Dr. Berk! You will pass if you just go to the lectures and pay attention. He hints to a lot of things that will be on the exam during lectures. He gives a study guide weeks before each exam. There are a lot of readings but it doesn't take too much time. There are a few assignments that are reflections and responses but they only take 15-20
He is awesome. His baby is adorable, and he is so passionate about the topic. Going into this class I didnt rly know what anthropology was but he made it super interesting! Highly highly highly recommend taking it. Attendance is taken randomly throughout the semester 4 or 5 times I think so you can get by with missing a couple of days.
Lecture-based. At-home movies take the place of class every once-in-a-while. As long as you pay attention to the lectures, take notes, and write down things he says (not just what is on the slides) you're pretty much guaranteed a good grade on the exams. (Non-cumulative final). Interesting lectures, even when talking about monkeys.
knowledgeable, personable, and enthusiastic
So nice and funny and a great lecturer! Most test questions come from lectures so attendance is important
Prof Berk is a great anthropology teacher. His tests are slightly difficult but if you go to class and just pay attention while taking small notes you'll be fine. He seems to genuinely care about students and accepts late work. He also makes his lectures interesting and seems to truly enjoy his job.
Dr. Berk is a great professor and a funny guy. To me, Anthropology was not super interesting but he is passionate about it and he likes to connect the lessons to things we are familiar with like auburn football or popular singers. Attendance is not mandatory but he does randomly take it 5 times throughout the semester.
Berk is a great professor and gives amazing lectures. Do the homework because he doesn't grade it very hard and is basically trying to help your grade so take the 15 minutes to complete it. attendance is randomly taken 5 times so I would go to class.
Dr. Berk's class was definitely very boring but he knows what he is talking about. He takes attendance 5 times randomly. His tests are very conception based so you can't just memorize the material, you have to really understand it. There are at home movies that are also on the test so definitely watch them or at least know what they are about.
Dr Berk was an amazing teacher. His class is fairly easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but he chooses 5 random class days to take attendance for a grade. His test are a little tricky but if you study you will do fine. 10/10 would definitely take him again if I had to.
Dr. Berk was a great professor, I met with him one time outside of class and he was great to work with. Attendance is not mandatory, but is taken randomly for 5% of your overall grade. Daily assignments make up 35% and are not difficult. He also offers a 2 point overall extra credit assignment to the end of your final grade.
Literally my favorite professor. His tests are easy, there are plenty of quizlets available. If you come to class and take notes on the powerpoints, you will do fine. Tests are in person and count for a lot of your grade but are super easy if you pay attention. Very fun class, easy to follow and understand. Go to class and you'll pass.
Dr. Berk is clearly passionate about what he teaches, and that makes the class a lot better and easier to sit through. There's 3 Exams (not comprehensive) and short writing assignments about every two weeks. He's a good guy.
Dr. Berk is an amazing professor. You can tell from the first day of class that he loves what he teaches and cares deeply about his students. He is very knowledgable about his topic. His workload isnt too hard, but make sure to do the sunday assignments, they make up a lot of the grade. Tests aren't too hard but make sure to follow the study guide.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. However, it is not a very fun class and lectures can get pretty boring. Not going to class will kill you though as some of the stuff that are on tests come directly from lectures. He is very nice outside of class and is very accessible. His tests are not too bad if you spend 2-3 days reviewing prior.
Dr. Berk is an amazing professor. Attendance isn't required, but he randomly takes it 5 times a semester for a grade. He also hints at exam questions during his lectures, so its helpful to show up. The information is kind of boring, but he makes it fun to listen to. He has writing assignments due on Sundays, but they aren't difficult or take long.
Very nice and caring dude and all material on tests are given. However, questions on tests are conception based and require much studying to do well on. If you are like me and already have a huge workload for the semester, do not take this class. Most lectures and at home assignments were very interesting though
Dr. Berk has been by far my favorite professor at Auburn. His class is very lecture heavy and he lets us know what will be on the exam, so make sure to go to class! He is one of the only professors I've had where I can tell that he loves and is passionate about what he teaches. If you have the chance to take him, do it!!!
You have to put in effort to do well on tests because they're more application based, but he explains everything in a way that's easy to understand and hints at questions that will be on the test. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he goes into depth during lectures on the info so you can't get by on just the powerpoints. Also he's a swiftie, slay.
The best!! Has the most in-depth lectures and really helps students understand. He is flexible and kind!
I absolutely loved Dr. Berk's class!! If I could take him again I would. He is so funny and genuinely wants his students to succeed. He is a very cool guy and it is obvious he cares about his subject. 1000/10 reccomend
The greatest professor I have had here. This class was awesome. Such a nice guy and cares about his students. If you have the chance to take this class do it. Also go to his class it will make tests so much easier. 100000/10 professor
Dr. Berk is awesome! If you take him, you do have to go to class. He will give you test questions and answers during lectures and he randomly takes attendance 5 times during the year that is a pretty big chunk of your grade. However, he is so nice and really cares about his students. He makes corny jokes during lectures that makes them enjoyable!
I loved taking his class! The tests could be tricky sometimes but as long as you attend the lecture and review the study guide you will do fine! His lectures are interesting and he has a really funny sense of humor. Would recommend 100%. The at home films are also super interesting and a nice break from lecture. Great class.
The nicest and most pationate lecture I've had. Made me seriously consider switching to anthropology as a major. Be warned he will talk about his kid and show you many pictures but its sweet. Also he's genuinly funny and self aware...
His class is amazing and one of my favorites! Very easy, and I feel I learned so much by barely paying attention. He is very enthusiastic about his lectures, which are often interrupted by pictures of his son. His tests are multiple choice and fairly easy, he gives a study guide for each one. Try to attend all the lectures.
favorite professor I have has at auburn super cool and chill.. test are not to difficult if you go to class overall just the best
Dr. Berk is such a cool guy! You can tell he really cares about his students and what he's teaching. His lectures can be a little boring but he tries really hard to be fun. Would definitely recommend him!!
Dr. Berk is awesome!! He's a super nice guy and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students' success! His lectures can get kinda boring but he does his best to keep it interesting and fun! Attendance isn't mandatory but there is a random 5 times he will choose to take it and it is counted into your grade! Overall good class and a nice guy!
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PROFESSOR!!! I loved this class so much; I almost changed my major. 10000/10 recommend Dr. Berk. I would retake the class if I could. There is a grade for attendance, but he does it randomly throughout the semester, but if you miss a class and tell him he is understanding.
Very caring about all of the students and is very easy to work with. He will take attendance 5 times randomly throughout the semester and it will be taken for a grade. He provides study guides for all of his exams and his final is just exam number 3. He accessible outside of class and his lectures are engaging and fun to listen to.
I LOVE THIS GUY! He is so calming and so caring. HIs exams are very conceptual and can be tricky but they're doable if you pay attention. His lectures are interesting and he's very passionate! Gives a little extra credit and his weekly assignments are easy. He also accepts a lot of late work
I loved Dr. Berk. He was the nicest prof and his class is very interesting. He has a total of 3 exams including the final, each only 45 questions and points. He does take attendance a total of 3 times, but its only for a 5 point assignment. def take him
He was genuinely such a good teacher, adorable, and with an amazing personality and so much care for what he taught. After the third class, I started immediately recommending him to people! He's the best, and if you need to take Anthropology, take his class. He occasionally takes attendance, but it's mostly extra credit and not mandatory.
Dr. Berk is a very chill and nice guy who seems to actually care about the topic he teaches. His lectures are pretty interesting as much as anthropology can be and Dr. Berk teaches each concept well so that you are prepared for the test.
Professor Berk is truly a gem! His lectures are captivating, and he genuinely cares about his students. The tests are conceptual but doable with preparation. I found unstuck study super helpful for quiz prep - a great study tool alongside the textbook.
Great class! Berk is a great professor and his lectures are always very interesting. The class itself is not very challenging as long as you attend lecture and study before exams.
He is a great professor and guy, but the class material overall is difficult if you are looking for an easy elective. There are only 3 exams but the second one is tough. Lots of at-home movies and writing assignments. He is a very entertaining guy and I enjoyed the class, but DO NOT TAKE IF LOOKING FOR AN EASY ELECTIVE.
Dr. Berk is truly great, he makes his material as straightforward as possible, and all his students thank him for it. Tests are simple if you attend lectures and study using the study guide he provides. He also tells you test questions if you attend class so going to class helps. Overall, this class was an easy A for credit and I recommend.
Dr. Berk has pretty entertaining lectures and posts the slides. Attendance is sort of mandatory? He takes it 5 times randomly throughout the semester and gives exam question answers in class, so I suggest going. If you use the study guide to study, you'll make an A on his exams. Would definitely take again.
Very chill survey class; not hard at all if you show up and absorb the lectures. Assignments are 300-400 word responses to readings/movies; a bit annoying but not hard. Seems to really care about students and presents information very clearly. Gives you hints about test questions in lecture (3 tests 45 multiple questions each). Great professor!
Super easy and interesting class, he tells you half the test questions and answers in class. He also gives a pretty comprehensive study guide so if you do the research on that and look at the lecture slides he posts, the tests are extremely easy. I went to maybe half the classes and passed with an A. Highly recommend taking this class with him.
Actually the best teacher I've had so far during my time here at Auburn. I'm an engineering major and only took this class to get a core credit but I was genuinely considering changing majors because of how amazing his class was. He tells you the test answers during class so take notes and its an easy A.
Dr Berk is the epitome of personality hire except he's also very knowledgeable. Chill 100-level course, no notes required if actively listening. I used to have a meek personality all throughout middle-high school but his presence was an inspiring catalyst that kickstarted my social butterfly. One of the very few classes I wish would last longer.
Such a nice guy. Truly cares about his work so much and teaches with such enthusiasm. If you study the study guide before tests you will do well.
Professor Berk is a great guy and cares for his students. He clarifies all the content and tries to make it as easy as possible for his students. Random attendance checks sometimes and taking notes are a must. But effort into studying before exams and you will pass.
I LOVE this man! Dr. Berk speaks perfectly for my brain and has a dry sense of humor, but I think he's funny. His class was a lot more interesting than I thought it'd be. There's hw assignments/at home films, but they help your grade a lot. As long as you go to class and do the assignments you'll do well. 5 attendance checks total.
Take Dr. Berk! One of the best professors I've had at Auburn. Class was easy if you do the reading and study for the exams. He takes attendance 5 times at random throughout the semester. Very engaging, dorky, personable lectures. I loved this class and would recommend him to anybody. There is a bit of reading that shows up on the exams. Love berk
Lots of discussion posts, but he mostly does it less to grade you, but to get you to engage with the content. His lectures are very engaging and interesting. His exams are a little tricky if you don't know applications. He frequently gives out exam questions verbatim. If you need a humanities class, you should take him!
Dr. Berk is such a genuinely nice person. He cares about his work and his students. His class is lecture-heavy so it definitely helps to go to class, and he takes attendance 5 times randomly throughout the semester, so you might as well.
Just show up to class and it's easy, I didn't go to the earlier ones and got a C on the test but showed up after that and now have an A. Also 5 random attendance checks.
Great professor! I genuinely enjoyed his class. He makes lectures interesting and fun! Quizzes were straight forward and there is extra credit at the end of the course. He takes attendance at random 5 times.
If you get the chance to take this class please do. Dr Berk is a teacher that truly cares and knows what he is teaching. 3 tests, one taken during finals week instead of a final. Hw is light and test are pretty easy if you pay attention in class. He will take attendance around 5 times on random days.
Dr. Berk is a hard guy to review. He is very knowledgeable about his field, but that can make the lectures confusing. I went to every class, but still had to learn the material from the test study guide, which took a while. You will most likely end up teaching yourself the material. Overall, good class but would not take again. Awesome guy tho.
Dr. Berk is a chill guy who loves his kids. He takes attendance five times in the semester, and he curves all his exams. Really good guy.
He just rocks. Study for exams and go to lectures. His lectures actually rock. Great dude honestly. If you do not do well in his class, you are actually too lazy for your own good. Take him.
Go to class because he takes attendance at random and tells you lots of exam questions. There is weekly short writing assignment and 3 exams including final. The exams are not super straightforward but if you look up his study guide on quizlet and study for a day or two you will get an A in the class.
Dr. Berk is a great professor. He's super caring and wants all of his students to succeed. I personally found this class super boring so wasnt really able to apply myself. If I cared about the subject at all it wouldve been an easy A. He takes 5 random attendences throughout the semester for a grade so just go to class.
I love Professor Berk I had him for ANTH1000 and he's even better in a smaller class like ANTH3100. There is a lot of reading and writing but it is worth it.
Great and passionate teacher
He's a really great teacher. He puts a lot of effort into his lectures and can be really funny! 10/10 would recommend even if you don't like anthropology
Best Prof. EVER! Dr. Berk will always have a special place in my heart. Rating him rn in his class! He's always fair and very clearly wants his students to succeed and is so passionate that you cant help be passionate as well even if ANTH isn't your major. Go to his lectures and youll do fine on the exams. He has weekly discussion posts, easy peasy
Professor Berk is SO FUNNY and personable. Even if you are a major that has nothing to do with anthropology, he makes lectures so interesting. He truly cares about what he teaches and makes it easy to learn! He also brings up his kids a lot as class examples, it's adorable! He takes attendance randomly 5 times throughout the semester; go to class!
Anthropology wasn't my favorite topic by any means but he wasn't a bad professor.
Berk is incredible, the lectures were surprisingly enjoyable and he is hilarious (mostly dad jokes). He tries his best to make anthropology interesting to his class since he knows most are taking it as a core class. KEEP UP WITH THE HOMEWORK! It's super easy but missing due dates will cost you big time. Exams can be somewhat tough but not crazy.
I have never dreading going to this class. Dr. Berk is one of the best professors here at Auburn. He cares about his job, his students, and most importantly his kids. Make sure you come to lectures as he will sometimes tell you questions on the exams. And attendance is taken randomly 3 times but if you miss and have a valid excuse you'll be fine
I LOVED Dr. Berk. He is so shayla. You can clearly tell he loves his job and wants his students to succeed. Attendance is not required but he randomly takes attendance 5 times throughout the semester for a grade. He gives you some questions that will be on the exam which is very helpful. His lectures are heavy and his exams are mostly conceptual.
The actual nicest man on the planet, I would take this class 1000 times over. Amazing lectures and his tests are pretty easy to study for if you follow the study guide and take notes. Attendance isnt mandatory but the classes are actually super interesting and fun.
This class is a lot of reading, but all of them are interesting! Dr. Berk really makes sure you understand the material in class. There are 2 papers and a final project in this class, along with several reading assignments. Dr. Berk really cares about his students and ensures that everyone is on the same page before moving on to another reading.
Best professor to have for a not very good class.
Dr. Berk is so funny, caring, and gives clear guidelines for exams with his study guides. He also offers "at home" films so you don't have to go to class occasionally and takes attendance randomly like three times the whole semester, BUT GO TO HIS LECTURES! They are so positive and I could write so much about how amazing this professor was.
Needed this class for a social science credit, and I am so thankful to have taken it with Berk. Though its boring sometimes he tries his best to keep us engaged, very funny. Attendance randomly 4 times during the semester, but go to lectures because he says what will be on the exam. Extremely clear with his intentions and WILL MISS HIS CLASS
Fun professor. Random attendance. Scales every exam and provides study guides. If you're more religious you may not like this class, not because of Berk. Decent amount of homework, but easy. Cancels class a lot.
Dr. Berk was an awesome professor. He takes attendance 5 times atrandom throughout the semester. Class is all lectures, but they normally aren't too bad. I recomend!
Dr. Berk is an amazing professor. He tries to be very engaging in his classes and uses "young people" lingo to keep up with the times. He loves to talk about his family. He gives exam questions during lectures. Attendance is taken randomly 5x throughout the semester.
This professor truly cares about the subject he is teaching and speaks about it with such passion and hilarity. He's constantly making jokes to relate to the students and talks about his family all the time. Homework is incredibly easy and attendance is taken 5 times randomly throughout the semester. He really made me adore Anthropology.
