Avoid at ALL costs! I love history, and usually do quite well; I struggled for a B. The grade is exclusively from 4 multiple-choice tests. Attendance is mandatory, which is awful as his lectures are disorganized and boring. No text book. Tests from notes in class. He does not know his material, if asked a question not in his notes. Don't take him!
Explained well that history is a story and everything fits together. Made it entertaining, interesting, positive and presented it in a non-biased and candid way. The exams (Opportunities for Success) were not easy, however, attending class & taking notes would ensure at least a B. Attendance was mandatory for the extra credit (2pts on final grade)
Genuinely good person
The class was a blur. There was emphasis on SI support, which still proved useless. The notes did not match the examination questions. Auburn disappointed horrribly by being subjective about history, and its clear what social/political views he has. Instead of focusing on fact, there was a lot of dramatic and anti-American/capitalist innuendo.
Mr. Bishop was one of my favorite teachers. His lectures are very interesting and he has a way of making them into a story rather than just boring information. If you do not study or you do not make an effort to do well in this class, your grade will reflect it. Do NOT miss class because he does not have detailed ppts. Overall, I'd take him again!
All you have to do is go to class and listen. He tells his lectures like stories and makes them interesting enough, all you have to do is be there.
Professor Bishop has very interesting lectures. He welcomes questions and explains history as a story. He lectures very heavy and fast so be ready to write. His test were very challenging. 25 multiple choice, 5 map, 5 order of events and 3 essay questions. The multiple choice was very tricky. He is very helpful in office hours. don't skip class!
Clearly bias in teaching. Class was mandatory, and lectures boring. Plus the room sucked. Always had to climb over people to get to my seat. Strongly advise against this class.
Dr. Bishop is very passionate about what he does and it can be seen in his lectures. What is nice about his class is that he assigns the reading in advance and will then go over it in the following class. As long as you do the assigned reading, take notes on the reading and during class, you will surely pass this course. Highly recommend.
Dr. Bishop is great! Really nice dude, easy going, and is willing to help you out with anything you need. The class is lecture heavy, but if you do the reading youll be just fine with keeping up. There are a lot of pop quizzes based on the reading as well. As long as you do the reading and the papers, youll pass this class.

4 tests to determine your grade for the entire course. Very lecture heavy and class is mandatory, if you miss one day of class you probably won't get the information for that day. Only extra credit opportunity is less than 2 absences over the semester. Although a few bright spots are that Prof. Bishop likes to help out and answer questions.
Dr. Bishop is an amazing professor. I LOVE his lectures, and he gives opportunities for extra credit. He really helps his students learn what happened in history and not just memorize a bunch of dates. You can tell that he enjoys what he does. Lots of reading in the class with essay questions, but it's a fun class!

Your grade is determined by just 4 exams, but the final is non-cumulative and he will give 2 bonus points on your course grade if you have less than 3 unexcused absences.

He is very funny and relatable but his lectures are full of information so get ready to take pages and pages of notes. There are 4 exams including the final with no other assignments. Memorizing the flow of events is important to succeed in his class. He does give 2 points on your final grade if you have less than 2 absences.
A great guy who means well, but his class is impossible. The only thing there is to study is your own notes. Talks way too fast and there is way too much information to know. No matter how much I studied I couldn't get a good grade on one of the four tests that makes up your entire grade because the tests are unnecessarily difficult.
Bishop was a difficult professor. He offers no textbook to reenforce learning and his class is mainly on everything he says. He has PowerPoints but they're not very helpful, mainly just main topics. He does/did provide a study guide but it's mainly just main topics from what we went over. I do not recommend this professor for history 1010.
Dr Bishop is a nice person. His lectures in my 75 minute class never failed to go over the time limit. Additionally, Dr. Bishop's tests are purely from verbatim. No textbook. This can be frustrating sometimes because he will seemingly glance over a topic that has 2 questions about on his tests. DO NOT think this class will be easy, it will be hard.
His powerpoints are just an outline of what he will talk about for the entire 75 minutes. There are study guides for the exams but information will be on the exam that was not on the study guide so focus on your notes. Do not take for an easy A because you will have to work for it. I would look for another professor
His PowerPoint in class is the only way to get any information. if you never miss a class he gives 2 points for that which really doesn't do much, that's his only form of grade help. the exams are structured in a way where you are not able to do very well on any exam without pretty much memorizing every word he says because it will be on the exam
Dr. Bishop is a funny guy and a good lecturer, but don't let that make you think this is an easy class. The only grades you can receive are 4 tough tests (and a possible 2 bonus points with good attendance). He doesn't post much, if all, of the lectures so I would not recommend this class unless you can take very good notes.
class is based on just 4 tests and listen-heavy. -50 multiple choice questions -5 map -about 5 "sample questions" (shows during lecture and on test) -every test contains a (fill in the bank) bonus question worth 4 points. -if you only miss 2 classes or less he gives 2 bonus points to your average. -exam class average of 200ppl was 70-74.
Super funny, nice guy. super lecture heavy... there's a seating chart so you can't sit with your friends. Get ready to take notes for an hour and 15 minutes straight. If you're going to take him, take it MWF so the lectures are broken up, because they're kinda brutal. BUT his groupme is funny and he tries to be super friendly with the students.

Dr. Bishop really is a goat teacher. Our whole grade is based off of 4 50Q MC tests, but if you take notes every class and study you really will be fine. He has great lectures and teaches history in an intriguing way, like a story. He's a funny dude and engages with the class comedically and casually in GroupMe. He's a good guy and a good teacher.
I took Dr. Bishop for 2 semesters. You need to know: Final grade is based off 4 exams,if you have 2 or less UNEXCUSED absences you get 2 bonus points added to your final grade,if you have an excused absence you can get the notes from a GTA,LECTURE HEAVY,if you pay attention and only skip 2-4 times you'll do fine on the tests, I never made below a C
He is easy to listen to! Very fun and engaging. The only grades are your test grades, but the tests are easy if you pay attention in class and take notes. Five of the questions on the test are map questions. He adds 2 points to your final grade if you have no more than 2 unexcused absences.
This professor, while he gives amazing lectures, is very test heavy. The tests have very difficult questions. I have taken very well written out notes as well as studied for hours and only gotten 65's on the tests. If you take him you must be willing to listen to lectures, if you don't go to lectures you miss out on important notes! Google wonthelp

Dr. Bishop is very knowledgeable about history and clearly loves what he does. However, he can talk really fast and it can make it a little hard to take notes. He is a very interesting lecturer, but be wary that his class is only 4 tests as the grades. The tests can be a little challenging, but with ample studying you should do fine in this class.
He is passionate about history and knows a lot about it. Keeps your attention the entire time, never gets boring. He does talk fast but not impossible to keep up. Only 4 tests but they are fairly straight forward if you pay attention. He is a great teacher and tells both sides of history fairly. Loved this class!!
I definitely would not recommend if you want a good grade. Your grade is just 4 tests and the tests are hard and confusing even if you know the material.
Professor Bishop is over all a kind man, but when it comes to teaching be prepared for long lectures. Ive spent days studying for his tests. Everytime, confidentally, I go in to take the test and come out very disappointed. 4 tests and no other grades. Be prepared to go to class every day, and boy if you don't, good luck.

Your only grades are exam grades which are good and bad. His lectures are good but you have to take notes to pass the class! He cares about his students but you have to put your part.

Although I enjoyed the lectures, it is a lot of information which is hard because your grade is based on 4 tests total and an attendance grade. that's it. so if you don't do so well on one test, your grade suffers fro the entirety of the semester. Again I enjoyed the lectures but the grading is a different story.
The information in the lectures were given like a story so if you dozed off for a few seconds you might miss an entire point and be confused as to what he's talking about now. So much information is given in each lecture and not all of the information shows up on the exams. There's only 3 exams + 1 final exam so if you fail one exam, you're screwed
Attendance is not mandatory or taken for a grade. If you do not attend class you will not know the material for his exams. Your grade consists of 3 exams and a final. He gives you a study guide with what you will be tested on and is a great teacher that interacts with his students with a Groupme outside of class and tries to relate to his students.
Loved this dude. He told the material like a story, but it was sometimes difficult to keep up. 3 exams and the final are your only grades. Come to class or you will not do good. He's super funny and tries to make class engaging. If you miss class only 2 times, he'll add 2 points to your overall average in the class. Would definitely recommend!!
If you can have lazer focus for every second of the 75 minute class (he takes up the entire time), take detailed notes crazy fast, and can absorb information and understand it super well the first time, then this is the class for you. Lectures move way too fast to keep up with and your notes come from listening to him speak during lectures which can lead to confusion and leaving out details. From getting an A in world history I to a C in world history II, I don't recommend this class.
Bishop made this class so fun. He tells his lectures like stories which makes them so interesting. You're graded by four tests but if you have close to perfect attendance he'll give extra credit at the end. Just start studying a good couple of days prior and you'll be fine. He made history so fun. Take him if you can, he's one of my favorite profs.
I went into this class loving history, and after I never want to take it again. Professor Bishop uses the whole 75 minutes to spit facts out as fast as possible and doesn't leave anytime to think. Often, I can't even absorb a point he makes in class. This makes me feel lost when studying and that's not good when your only grades are test grades.
He is pretty good. Get ready to study though, it is not easy.

Bishop is a great lecturer; it wasn't very hard (4 tests; 45 hist multiple choice + 5 geog multiple choice questions each) and he adds 2 points if you show up to all lectures. His lectures are dense so by the end you will be fried but tests are exactly what he says in class. Not very many resources given but no work out of class so p chill overall.

Just pay attention in class and you'll be fine. super easy overall. use SI study review for tests!!!!

The most interesting class ive ever taken in my life. The tests are meant to be relatively difficult but designed so that if you study and understand the material it should be that bad. Hes a really good lecturer and i enjoyed it
Do not take his course if you are not a good tester!! The entire course is graded on 4 test, no textbook. while his lectures are interesting they are sooo long and you get lost on what you need to know for the test. While he is a super nice guy and very understanding do not take this class unless you are ready to study for hours on end.
Just pay attention
Has 3 slides with few bullet points for an 1:15 lecture and he always goes to the end of the lecture. Horrible study guide and overall a boring lecturer. Lots of notes (way too much) for a 50 question exam.
I really like the guy but at the beginning of the year he told everyone that he hates when kids pass his class. The class is based ONLY on 4 exams. He has GTAs walking around and taking off points if you are texting on your phone or laptop. Attendance is mandatory. I got a C and I am an honors student. For reference, I got a 105 in HIST 1020.
Dr. Bishop was a good lecturer but his classes were boring to go to. Since he takes attendance you cannot skip his class which sucks. If you miss class you'll have to get notes from someone in class since he does not post any information on canvas. Just do the study guide and you'll be fine.
I honestly love this professor. He is funny and I do not find his lectures boring. Your only grades in the class are 4 tests so you HAVE to study. If you do not put in the work you will not get the grades.
I'm a slacker, but Dr. Bishop's teaching style is great for me. I'll tell you the secret to passing his class: SHOW UP. Take detailed notes. 1-3 days before the test, review and cram for it. Easy A. As long as you show up, you don't have to even think about the class until the tests. If my older brother can get A, we all can!!!
Grades are 4 exams only. You are allowed to miss 2 days of class in order to receive extra credit, which is only 1-2 points added on an exam. Lectures feel never-ending. You'll learn about 6 different empires during a unit, then when the test comes, it will completely focus on 2 of those empires, which waste all your time studying.
Dr. Bishop is a very kind and funny professor, but his class is straight lectures where you have to make sure you write down every single little detail he says bc his tests come straight from his lectures and what he says. There is no book or information to memorize besides from his lectures. the only four grades are 4 tests.
I do not recommend this history class. It is very tough and the lectures are hard to keep track in. The only grades are the four test and they are very hard. It is hard to get an A in the class but Professor Bishop is very passionate about history in general.
If you are not a good test taker do not take his class. His lectures are long/interesting, the test are purely conceptual questions so you must know the material inside and out. If you work for it an A is doable. There are other history professors at Auburn who give open note tests so I see no point in taking his class.
Dr. Bishop gives interesting lectures, but you have to take good notes and write down everything. The entire grade is just 4 tests, which is nice not having to do homework or other assignments. He gives a study guide for each unit and as long as you understand those terms and anything he emphasized in class, getting an A is manageable.
Dr. Bishop is a hilarious professor and an entertaining lecturer. A lot of information goes into one lecture, but if you are able to realize what not to write down you can keep up. If you attend most classes and take detailed notes you will make a good grade. Make sure to enjoy the GroupMe because it will be vanished. Nice man who loves history!
Based on only a few exams, completely lecture-based, so if you don't take good notes, you won't have any proper study material. Good at lecturing and seems like a kind person, but difficult exams mean that the average grade is going to be a C or low B. Difficult class to coast in (though I kinda did.)
Only graded by 4 tests, but if you have 2 or fewer absences excused you get 2 points added to your final grade. I ended with a 70 after the 2 points. Very hard, studied my butt off for every test, and still didn't do as well as I wanted. Lectures are super fast and high in detail, but he is very nice and caring and gives sample questions.

As long as you go to class, take good notes, and are able to stay awake during his very long and information dense lectures, you should be fine. Always do the study guides before the tests and make sure that you understand the big ideas of his lectures as he tends to talk about small details that aren't really important for the test.
Professor Bishop was a great professor and I plan on taking him again for HIST 1020. Your grade is 4 tests and for our class, if you had less then 2 unexcused absences then you get 2 bonus points to your FINAL grade. He talks for the entire time and is a little fast so make sure you try to sit close to him to understand what to write for notes.

All in all Mr.Bishop is a good teacher but this class in not for those who have grown up in school systems where history was something that was required but was taught in an easier war to comprehend. If you are more of a math and science person this class will be hard seeing that he all he does is put a slide with main points and talk from that.

ProfnBishop is a good and caring person. However, I do not like the way he taught this class. His lectures are long and take up the whole class and all u have to take notes off of is his voice. Also, all of the grades are tests. The slideshows contain little to no information. I do not suggest his class if you have a hard time paying attention.
Lectures are amazing and easy to follow. Bishop teaches his lectures as a story making it easy to follow. There are only 4 tests and you have to take notes based off of his lectures to succeed. I would 100% recommend this class if you are wanting to actually learn history.
Absolutely loved taking Dr. Bishop again for Hist 1020. Great guy. Many will say the class is difficult, but if you show up to class and take notes then the exams really don't feel that hard. He talks the entire class for either 75 or 50 minutes depending on if you have him T/Th or M/W/F. you have to listen to every detail he says as it could be on the test. no notes are posted, there is no textbook to study. if you miss something then you're pretty much screwed. stay away unless you can listen and type faster than he can talk.
Can make a good grade but you must show up to most classes and pay attention, share and rewrite notes from other students via GroupMe, go to the SI Sessions, and go back over the pwps and study guides often. If you don't do these things you'll probably struggle on the test bcuz of how particular he is. Also, his version of history is not true
Bishop is a great guy. Only issue is he's a very auditory teacher. You have to take notes on what he says. Attendance is mandatory but only for bonus points. If you miss class, get notes from someone or your screwed. I barely studied even 2 hours for every exam and ended up with an A. This was for HIST 1010 and 1020. Grades on 4 exams
I normally think history is boring but his lectures are interesting and keep me engaged the whole time. However, you only have 4 grades and those are the exams. The exams are very difficult in my opinion and I am struggling to maintain a B. If you are a good test taker and can remember every little detail from class you will do well.
Dr. Bishop is an execellent professor. I just finished up his class, and it was very interesting day in and day out. It could get difficult, especially only having 4 tests for grades. But in my opinion, he is the best professor you could have for the early history classes.
