he's awesome, he's very helpful and has a sense of humor, which made going to class at 8:30 a lot more enjoyable
AMAZING! By far the best class I have ever taken in Binghamton University and professor Bishop is the best professor I have ever had. Lectures on intersting, and very current material! Bishop makes the 830 fly by.
Chris is a great teacher, very informative and entertaining :)
One of the best teachers I have ever had in binghamton!! This class was great and he made every effort to make the information current and interesting. The class requires some work but he is there to help and work is not excessive. if you have the chance to take a class with him you definintley should!!
Had for learning. Tests are hard cause its a lot of stuff you need to know for each one. Follows whole txtbook exactly but I never cut even one class cause hes so fun and the material is way easier to understand by going to class. He will always make you laugh each class. Especially with his love of burritos in examples. Drops 1 of 4 exams.
Bishop is an amazing professor. The tests are difficult but if you read the text and take notes in lecture you'll be ok. He's extremely helpful and wants to make sure you understand the material. He really seems to love what he teaches and tries to make it fun and interesting for the class. I highly recommend taking a class with him. =)
Dr. Bishop was an amazing professor. The material was pretty difficult but he made it as simple as possible. His sense of humor is great. Connected everything to sex and alcohol.
This professor was amazing! He made the 8:30 lecture worth it! It was a lot of work, but rewarding work. make sure you go to class!
Professor Bishop is an amazing teacher! He's smart and knows what he's talking about and tries really hard to make sure everyone else also understands. He's also REALLY funny! Definitely take a class with him! The tests are very fair, and he curves. Drops 1/4 tests.
He makes class fun and the material easy to understand. The tests are very hard but also very fair. He is nice and funny and going to class is worth it cuz he follows the book exactly so there si no reason to read it but it is a good source for help understanding the stuff after clss
loved bishop!! never mind going to his class because he is hysterical!! (he loves his burrito and alcohol references) is very clear and tests are extremely straightforward and fair, if you don't go to class you must read the text but class is really fun!
Good professor, but hard class. The material in the textbook is boring and confusing...the test are hard.
This class is impossible. You can study and study and study and study and still do badly. It's not Bishop's fault though. He's a great professor. He's very funny and tries to make the boring class interesting. He tries his hardest to make the material understandable. He's a very nice guy and a good professor, but the class is ridiculously hard.
LOVED professor bishop. he's hilarious. the material is hard and the class requires a lot of work but it IS possible to pull an A. Probably the most entertaining professor at bing.
I love this class! Attendance isn't mandatory but I have gone to every lecture. Lectures are important if you want to succeed. I usually take read the book and jot down notes on the lecture outline he posts and then compare them to the notes in class. It requires some work but I love the material and I'm doing well. Hope I get him again!
i have nothing but good to say about bishop as a person and as a professor. he makes you work hard (not just random memorization like most classes) but also wants you to udnerstand the material (he's very open to questions. but it's a really hard class. i go to every class, read the book, and study hard but can't do well. he's a great prof though
Dr.Bishop makes his classes interesting and fun using real life examples to help you understand the material. Although the class, you can always visit during office hours and he is able to clarify the material. On the last day of classes he got a standing ovation. Bishop is a great guy and the class is relevant to all aspects of psyc
Professor Bishop is freaking awesome!!!!!! He's such a great guy. He makes class fun and loves telling burrito and alcohol jokes. Be warned though, this class is pretty hard. 4 multiple choice tests and one is dropped. Overall, I highly recommend this class. Professor Bishop will easily be one of the best professors you will ever have.
Definitely recommend. If you ever get the chance to take a class with Bishop, do so. He makes the material and class interesting and fun. I had him at 8: 30 am and never fell asleep in his class regardless of missing out on sleep the night before. Do the work, apply yourself and go to his office hours. He is amazing!
The man, the legend, quite frankly the best science professor at Binghamton. This class requires you to read and answer questions on six scientific articles and write two significant research papers and present on them, but its all graded very fairly. Extremely entertaining and understands his field well. You will enjoy working with him!!!
Best professor I've had at Binghamton. His powerpoints are informative and helpful and he makes lecture interesting. I never minded going to his class. If you put the work in, you can get an A.
Seriously, one of the best professors I've ever had. This class was entertaining every single day. You get to take a pretty detailed look at brain diseases and current research. The papers were fine, you pick the topic so you could write about something that interests you. He's a fair grader who really cares about teaching and his students.
Dr. Bishop is THE BEST professor in Binghamton! Really funny, super nice and very approachable! Go to class, study hard and you get a good grade.
Bishop is awesome! He is very knowledgable regarding the coursework and makes the class very interesting. The class itself is challenging, but reading the book right before lectures is very helpful for understanding the material. Take this class for your experimental!!
Bishop is a very funny professor who delivers interesting lectures. He makes use of humorous examples in order to keep the class engaged, and is very approachable outside of the classroom. The material is somewhat challenging, but he allows for you to drop 1 test grade. Make sure that you read the book every week.
Professor Bishop is an awesome teacher and gives really good, clear lectures. He will always set aside time to meet if you can't make it to office hours and is very good with answering emails promptly. The class is challenging but definitely worth taking.
Very good professors. Loves to answer questions. Always helpful in office hours. Drop the lowest grade. Four test. Test are challenging. Only curves if people do bad in the class.Reading the book is a must. Makes class interesting. Recommended. Class is hard though
probably the best teacher at bing
absolutely love this man, go to his office hours, put in the work, and you'll be golden
He is a wonderful professor! A fantastic lecturer, very funny and enthusiastic. Helpful and happy to go into greater depth and explain things, seems genuinely excited about material. Would definitely recommend!
He is hilarious! He tries very hard to help all of his students understand the material & uses a lot of jokes to do so! I would highly recommend the class, but you have to attend & take all of the notes in order to do well!
One of the best teachers at BU. Tough tests but if you put in the study time and go to class you will do fine. Also, he drops lowest test grade. He also has an awesome sense of humor :)his jokes actually helped the material stick for me. Oh and he is also really good looking!
Loved this class. Loved this professor. Best experimental Psych class at Binghamton just because Bishop teaches it! Class uses power points that he doesnt give but its ok. Hes slow, takes his time for people to copy them and has help sessions. All psych majors should take this class!
Great teacher, makes the class very entertaining with his jokes. Lowest test score is dropped and the tests aren't too bad if you memorize and understand the material. Must take this class.
Bishop was the best professor i had during my undergrad. Very attentive to questions, great knowledge of material, and very entertaining. He clearly has a passion for what he does, and it comes through in each one of his lectures. If you have the opportunity to take his class, do yourself a favor and enroll. You wont be disappointed.
Really great class. Great professor. But it's impossible to do well without reading and understanding the book as well as the class notes
Read the book & u will do fine on the exam!
I had a very bad experience with him. The class itself was not hard and neither was his teaching style. However, I found him difficult to approach. He told me once that I was extremely annoying and turned me away from him during his open office hours. Really hurt my self-esteem because I'm a really sociable person...or so I thought.
The material is pretty confusing and tough to grasp. Dr. Bishop doesn't help it's case and tends to make everything seem so complicated. He makes examples using burritos...he's obsessed. And he's also very arrogant and unapproachable. Try to avoid taking this class with Bishop as the teacher. I'm sure another prof would make the class better.
Bishop tends to cater to one type of learning style (which is ironic since he teaches learning theory) and if you don't fall in that style, then you're on your own. He's pretty entertaining, but that doesn't always make you a good teacher.
Bishop is a good lecturer, not boring. Not a bad class, pretty straightforward. Take notes and listen to examples he gives in class. READ the textbook at least twice before the test. Not hard, but you need to read to comprehend. A lot of the studies he uses as examples are in the textbook. If you understand those you'll be fine for the tests.
I thought he was a great professor, and most people I know agree. He's funny, engaging, and communicates ideas well, which is pretty impressive given how utterly boring the topic of learning can be. I would definitely recommend both him and this class (as long as he's teaching it)
Interesting and clear lectures everyone enjoyed it. Great professor!
Awesome professor. Helpful, clear, very well versed in the material, and knows how to make a classroom laugh. Attendance and textbook use is mandatory if you want an A in the class. Not an easy class but also not that hard if you apply yourself.
Good teacher but there were some questions he just didn't know. I think he made these powerpoint slides years ago and forgot the details of the research studies, etc. Relatively easy class. I hardly went and did fine on the tests. Of course it will benefit you (& save you time) to go, but his lectures are right out of the textbook.
Dr. Bishop is a very intelligent and admirable individual. However, I feel that at times he makes the course material appear more complicated than it needs to be. The textbook helps to an extent, but you have to be able to understand his teaching style to succeed. But then again, there are definitely professors who are worse than Bishop.
Awesome teacher
This guy is awesome. Take this class.
GOOD PROFESSOR
Prof. Bishop is an amazing professor! His lectures are not boring- he entertains everybody with his humor. The course is not easy but it is easier than most other experimental psyc courses. The textbook is pretty dense and dry but it is very helpful. Prof Bishop is also very helpful and if you go to his office hours you will do better!
Bishop is an AMAZING professor. He posts notes up in class so attendance is a must. He explains everything very well, and if you are confused he will try his best to explain until you understand. 4 tests-1 dropped. Easy A class if you study and read the chapters. He is a funny guy and makes class, and the topic way more interesting. DEFINITELY take
Why does everyone love Bishop? He's very cold and has a very bizarre sense of humor. Class is NOT an Easy A!!! He makes it so boring
The class is so boring and the book is so hard to get through. His tests are brutally difficult and extremely deceptive. If you're just a good test taker, I imagine you will do fine. But for others who actually have to try, it's best to avoid him at all cost.
Learning is probably the worst class in the Psychology department. I learned absolutely nothing because the book was ridiculously boring and Dr.Bishop is an awful teacher in general. He clearly has no interest in teaching. Rambles and rushes through the notes. Doesn't post them on blackboard. And he's kind of a jerk in general.
Dr.Bishop is just awful. I have severe dyslexia and the format of the tests make it difficult for me to read. He wouldn't make any accommodations for me and told me during a meeting with him that if I am unable to take the class the same way as everyone else that I should just drop it and drop out of school!
If you take the class, memorize textbook and get all the notes from the TA. You cannot cram for the exam the night before. His tests are set up to intentionally trick you. Half T/F and Half Multiple choice. As a teacher, he's very cold and condescending. Does not seem enthusiastic about teaching and is more concerned with his research.
I did not like the class and learned absolutely nothing. The textbook is poorly written and he goes through the lecture slides so quickly. You might feel frustrated at times in this class.
The class is painfully difficult. I struggled constantly. Got an A in Organic Chemistry but barely passed this class. I would try to avoid taking this course at all costs. If you fall behind in class, you are on your own.
Highly recommend this class as you will learn a lot of relevant and interesting info on mental illness/brain disease. Two presentations, one 8-10 pg paper, and 6 or so discussion sessions. EXTREMELY easy A. Bishop is very responsive to emails and helpful in person. A funny guy who truly enjoys his job.
Lectures follow the textbook so it's easy to do well. As a professor, not a fan. He goes kind of fast with the lecture slides and doesn't post them on blackboard. Prof. Bishop was also very sarcastic and condescending during lecture.
Awesome teacher, does an exceptional job breaking down complicated concepts into common parlance. Challenging exams, but always fair. Probably the best teacher I've had at bing so far because of how he makes the tough, sometimes boring subject come to life. He's a fan favorite for a reason.
Class was really hard and I struggled throughout the semester. You definitely have to put in a lot of effort. His slides don't contain a lot of info and the textbook is awful. He's kind of all over the place and rambled a lot so it's hard to follow. Was not available for help during the semester.
Bishop is unclear with examples given in class and gives extremely difficult tests. His teaching is rushed and he is condescending to kids who ask difficult questions which discourages all question asking in general. It is uncomfortable to raise your hand for this reason. He is unhelpful during office hours and will never give points back.
Class covered a lot of abstract concepts that is really hard to get. He didn't take time to explain it and would just rush through notes. The office hours were not helpful at all and the exams were hard. I spent hours studying and I barely passed.
The exams were really hard and there was a lot of detailed information to remember. Tests are designed to trick you especially the true false questions. Class was worse because he kind of rushed through slides without explaining them. And he doesn't really offer much help during office hours.
EXCELLENT professor. Bishop is clear, willing to help, genuinely wants students to do well, and is passionate about the topic. Tests are VERY fair: almost everything is based off the textbook, so if you outline it, attend/take notes in class, and study, you're golden. Loved this class, Bishop is a favorite for a reason!
The class is pretty hard and frustrating. It was a struggle to keep up with him during lecture because he would speed through the powerpoints before I could finish copying it. He's also very sarcastic and condescending. Hardly there during office hours.
Tough class and the tests were pretty hard. Lots of random questions that can throw you off. Go to the TA office hours and take detailed notes quickly because he moves through the lectures rapidly.
Worst professor in the psych. dept.!
His test are extremely hard. If you don't understand the material or can't apply it you won't pass the tests. He's great during his office hours. GO TO THEM! The textbook is sometimes clearer then he is. Read before class because his lecture is the textbook word for word. You will definitely need to put a lot of time into this class
Professor Bishop is a great personality and a good teacher. Go to class if you want to know what topics in the textbook you will have to focus on and to measure how well you are understanding the material. Read and outline every chapter carefully, know the vocabulary, and do questions in the back of the book for a high grade.
Professor Bishop is a really nice guy but his class is extremely hard. I took this class because I thought it would be interesting and I'm not saying I regret it but this class actually killed me. I never thought I would ever study as much as I did. Be prepared 45% of the class bombs the first test.. Don't be that one student. its hard to come back
Lecture material is very dry. Professor Bishop basically just reads from the textbook and whatever is on the powerpoints. His notes are so disorganized and he rushes through them. Often hours aren't very helpful since his room often becomes crowded with lots of students.
This class was extremely frustrating. The material is very complex and difficult to grasp. The book is unclear and difficult to follow. Professor Bishop covers a lot of concepts during his lectures and progresses through class quickly. The exams are very difficult and extensive. Don't wait until the last minute to prepare. Cramming will not work!
Good teacher, tests are difficult, pay attention in class and read the textbook.
Definitely one of the hardest classes I've had to take. But hey, college isn't easy. Go to every class, take good notes, and READ THE TEXT BOOK, this is crucial to passing the class. Besides that, very interesting material.
The material is tough and you have to study a lot to do well on the tests. But his lectures are very straightforward and he makes the material understandable. You really need to go to class if you want to do well. Also attendance is not mandatory but he occasionally takes attendance and if you regularly come to class, he WILL boost your grade.
Learning is a very concept heavy and difficult class. Bishop makes lectures easy to pay attention to, but tests are still very difficult. I worked extremely hard, and still only had a 73% average. However, by some miracle, there was either an unannounced curve or secret extra credit because I received a B+.
I took learning with him and struggled but his seminar is awesome. There is no textbook. Our discussion consists of questions he posts and we talk about the article he assigns on that day. One 10 page paper as your final with a 5 min presentation and a poster project. All in all it is an interesting class and you will learn a lot.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. He doesn't post his slides online so you either have to copy everything he has up there and tune him out or memorize the textbook. Definitely have to read the textbook to supplement lectures, as he speeds through 28 packed slides every class. Tests are difficult but there's a slight attendance curve
I can understand why people might struggle in his class, but I found his tests to be very fair and as hard as any other experimental psychology course I have taken, and I did not put in that much effort to study. As long as you take good notes and read the textbook, you'll do fine.
Dr. Bishop is an extremely engaging lecturer and is very knowledgable about the subject. The material is dry but he does his best to keep students interested in the course. His exams are very fair if you read the textbook and go to lectures. He also uses TopHat for attendance and in class quizzes so definitely go to class and you'll do fine.
Bishop was hands down the best professor I've had a Binghamton thus far. He was easily accessible and a great lecturer. Though the class material in itself was difficult, and many people struggled on the first test, you get one dropped test (out of 4) which helped a lot of people out. If you go to class and read the textbook you should be okay.
Learning was by far the hardest psychology course that I have taken. He also tends to speak really fast and rush through his slides, without explaining any of the tough concepts discussed. I really struggled with this class and barely made it through.
Bishop is by far the best lecturer I've had at Bing to date. Does a really good job putting material in real-world terms and explains concepts really well. He makes the material so interesting! There's a reason his classes fill up so quickly.
Bishop does a fantastic job of taking dry subject material and making it interesting and relatable. He has a great sense of humor and is good at explaining confusing subjects in a way that make sense with real-world examples.
Best professor in BU. He loves burritos and he likes your smile. Tests are hard but manageable. Extra Credit if you have good attendance.
Bishop is my favorite teacher Ive had for a psych class at Bing. He cares about the subject and while it is a very difficult class, he does a great job explaining concepts. I really like that he pauses in between slides so you can start writing and then still listen to what he has to say.
The best professor at Binghamton University. Probably one of the hardest classes and you really have to work for a good grade but Bishop makes you want to come to class to learn. Uses extremely relevant examples to explain difficult concepts and he's funny.
His class was incredibly agonizing. The material is very dry and he has a tendency to rush through the lectures, which made it difficult for me to grasp the concepts. He also was barely available for help outside of his office hours and would constantly ask students to meet with his undergraduate TAs.
Dr. Bishop is easily one of the best Psychology/Neuroscience professors at Binghamton. He has a uphill battle in that Learning is quite frankly one of the most dense dry topics one could teach, but I still recommend taking this course he makes it interesting somehow. Additionally, take a course with Dr. Ralph Miller if you get the chance.
The class itself has a lot of concepts and material that you should know, but everything you need to know comes straight from his lecture slides. I recommend coming up with examples on your own for the concepts discussed during lecture and you'll be fine. The key to doing well is thinking about the concepts abstractly until you can explain it.
Grade consists of 4 tests, but you can drop one grade. Tests are tough, so study a lot. You can get away with not really reading the book if you understand everything in lecture. I would reference the book for anything you're confused about though. Dr. Bishop is funny and engaging, so his lectures are great. He communicates complex material well!
This class is easy to struggle/fall behind in, but honestly if you read the textbook, take good lecture notes, and study for exams, you will be fine. There is a lot of material and it all builds on each other, so if you don't understand something, make sure you sort it out before moving on. He's hilarious and knows his topic really, really well.
Bishop as a person is very nice. This class however, was a gigantic struggle. You are only graded on 4 tests and they are not straight forward questions, and were often confusing. I spent every day in office hours and was able to pass, but it was a challenge. Be prepared to not have much of a life if you take this class as it consumes you.
Dr Bishop is the best professor Ive had at bing hands down. Hes a great lecturer and makes class super interesting, but you do have to go to do well. Read the textbook and office hours was my savior. Hes such a nice guy and wants you to succeed. Tests are pretty hard but If you put in the effort its not hard to get an A. Take a class with him!
My favorite class at my time at Binghamton. There is a book but not a real text book, if you're pre-med or really do enjoy your neuroscience major I could not recommend this class more. Dr. Bishop is probably the best professor I have had, including post-bac work. I also took her learning class which is also great.
Gives same tests every semester. So many students brag about having the test answers to study ahead of time. So frustrating because I am not willing to cheat. My grade suffered because there is no curve, based on those kids doing well. Hope i can still go to grad school.
He refuses to add anything for students to use as resources. Does not provide his PowerPoints, gives scatterbrained lectures and does not cover all material.
Bishop is an okay professor when lecturing, but he makes his tests ridiculously hard for no reason. The test questions are vague, confusing, and sometimes deal with concepts we didn't specifically learn in class. I would not recommend this professor if you value your grades, and also most of the topics are dry/boring.
He's a decent professor but the tests are very hard and unclear and your grade is completely based on 4 tests. The class itself is not super interesting.
Bishop is very knowledgeable in his field. You must go to class because the tests are based off of the lectures. Although it's very test heavy, he lets you drop your lowest test grade. It's a very interesting class to take and can get you an easy A as long as you put in the work required.
Dr. Bishop is my favorite psychology professor that I've had at Binghamton thus far. He made the class super interesting, and taught the material well. The class is perhaps one of the more challenging psychology classes, but it's definitely doable to do well! Reading the textbook helps a lot to clear up anything you missed during lecture!
Professor Bishop is a good professor. The tests were pretty hard and final grades are solely based on your top 3 out of 4 exams. Professor Bishop and his TAs are very accessible outside of class and are willing to work with you if the times they provide don't work.
This class has been one of my most challenging, if it were online it may have been better. The lectures are dense and he doesn't post on blackboard so don't miss class. He gives great examples for the material, and the TA's run helpful review sessions with practice questions. There's 4 hard exams with 1 drop, wish there was HW to boost grades.
Provides the worst learning environment for a class I've ever had. Refuses to provide the notes, only providing the graphs on TopHat. Your grade relies solely on three 60 question MC exams. The grading schema is ridiculous: need >95 to get an A. This means you can only get like 3 q's wrong each exam - unattainable unless you obsess over it
bishop is a genuine dude. his lectures can get a little intensive, but there is plenty of extra help available. one issue i have with him is the fact that he uses words in lecture that most people wouldn't know, but that's a nitpick. i recommend taking a class with him, great guy. he's funny too
This man is hilarious. Some people have trouble with the tests but he provides a lot of review and you can gain up to 2 extra points on your final grade (from attendance which is not mandatory and completing soot survey. No homework you are graded on you three highest test scores ( 4 tests total). Exams are not cumulative.
This class is so difficult but even with that I would take it again. Professor Bishop is awesome and very smart and funny, he knows how to keep the class engaged. If you go to class, study hard it is totally doable to get an A you just really have to apply yourself. Going over the lecture notes after each class helped me to get better test grades.
Engaging professor, but this class is organized terribly imo. If you're not good with tests; be prepared because your grade is based on 3 exams. attendance isn't mandatory but he doesn't post notes on brightspace. thought this class would be manageable but if ur not a great test taker you're kinda screwed. Review sessions are nothing like the exams
PSYC 356 was a challenging class. It is graded based on 4 exams but one gets dropped. It is lecture heavy and he does not post the notes online. You need to actively study to do well in this class or else you will not be getting an A or B. Bishop however was an engaging lecturer, genuine, and always available. It was hard but I learned a lot.
Professor Bishop is extremely caring and wants all of his students to do well. Great lecturer and as long as you stay on top of going to classes and study the material the class is totally manageable. I highly recommend taking a class with him.
Bishop was an engaging and interesting lecturer, it's just that the material is HARD. Go to class, read the textbook, etc. Grade comes from best 3 of 4 tests, and our final grade was curved (I went from a B- to a B). I'd take another of his classes, but if it's like learning I'd start studying from the start.
Dr. Bishop was one of my favorite professors I've had so far. It's truly amazing how he makes such dry material entertaining and funny. 3/4 tests count and if you study hard you can do well. GO to the review sessions as well, the Grad TA Jim was very helpful It is a challenging class, but totally worth it!
Dr. Bishop is a very kind professor who clearly loves teaching psychology. Graded by 4 exams (one drops). His exams are challenging, but studying ahead and going to his office hours are a huge help. He responds quickly to emails, and is extremely enthusiastic so his lectures are never boring.
he was an ok professor, i would say his lectures were just hard to sit through and actually pay attention to. his whole class was just based on 4 exams and they were very hard. i think the test were super tricky so it can be easy to fall behind
Bishop is one of those professors who is too knowledgeable for his own good. While he is probably a great person to do research with, his class was exceptionally difficult. The class is ALL tests and they are difficult tests at that. There is a lot of information to memorize and you feel burnt out by the last test.
Bishop's lectures can be dense, but he's engaging and really cares about the material. Exams are tough, so staying on top of the readings and using resources like Unstuck study for practice questions are key. The workload is manageable if you put in the effort.
this was a pretty difficult class but bishop was a very engaging professor who made going to lecture enjoyable. just make sure you go to every single lecture, pay attention, and study
Don't underestimate this class, don't think you can get away with a surface level understanding. Take the difficult concepts, put them into chat GPT and make it explain, ask it questions, dig deep. Do well on first 2 tests cuz third one is hardest; final is a joke (you can drop one) I got 88 on 1st one, avg was a 65. Trust me, do well on the 1st.
Lectures were really interesting. He's a great teacher and keeps lectures interesting. Grades are only tests, one drop, and extra credit from Tophatt during class. Would definitely take his class again.
Your grade in this class is only based on four exams, one of which is dropped. You may also receive a point added to your grade for attendance and the SOOT survey. I would study days in advance, but the lectures are heavy and include lots of studies that you need to know the details and results of. He does not curve or give extra credit.
Class was not too difficult if you studied the lecture notes HARD. Notes are not posted, so you have to attend lectures, but he is a good lecturer and makes the material engaging. Graded on 4 exams (lowest exam is dropped, which allows for not taking the final). I did not even buy the textbook and just studied lecture notes and did well on exams.
