Senor Blake is a great professor. memorization skills are needed for test. His great attitude and happy class environment helps the student not count the seconds till dismissal. Everybody taking spanish should take senor blake. Senor blake you the man!!!
Nice teacher. Funny and very helpful
Blake is a good teacher who knows Spanish well. His classes are conducted efficiently and are fun to participate in. He's helpful and entertaining.(One note: Blake is slightly effeminate and it can be distracting/disturbing to some.)
He was an awesome teacher! Does a great job in teaching the spanish language. I learned a lot from him. Just make sure that you actually do your work and don't slack by because he doesn't accept that kind of attitude. If you do what you are supposed to do you will be fine.
Professor Blake is awesome! Come to class, sit through Destinos (spanish soap opera) and you will pass. He is funny, entertaining and becomes your friend. He's one of the best NOVA has to offer. Take him.
Blake is the man! He breaks down each chapter in the book to help you better understand it. Do the homework and the labs and the class will come easy. Hell, he even tells you exactly what going to be on the test.
The second semester of spanish is full of difficult grammar. Blake has a gift for explaining and simplifying it ALL. He makes you very aware of pitfalls before any exams. No booby traps. Considerate. Helplful. Professional, and above all, NOT a jerk! I kept and still use my notes from this class.
Outstanding instructor.
BEST SPANISH TEACHER EVER!!!! He explains the material at your level and is very patient. He is awesome!!! He is very easy because he explain things so well and if you show up for class and pay attention, the semester will be a breeze.. :)
Blake is great prof. He is fun and understanding. I regret that I cant continue study in his class.
I enjoyed the class at first, but then prof. Blake started to act like a jerk to some people. He started on a hard topic and when the class didn't understand it he intentionally humiliated quite a few people in public. It was very offensive and I would never take a class from him again, no matter how good a grasp he has on the language
Blake is awesome! I nearly die of laughter almost every class. So much fun. I've recorded some of his classes (for learning purposes of course) and I can't even tell you how funny he can be. Great interaction with the class. He is also very helpful if you show effort and COME TO CLASS ON TIME. He will not be happy if you are habitually late.
I had Prof. Blake for both semesters of Beg. Spanish, as well as both semesters of Intermediate Spanish, and found him to be very fair in his grading policies ( he lets your correct a test if you did poorly on it), and good at explaining grammar issues that inevitably arise in a foreign language class. I would recommend Spanish with him to anyone.
The best Spanish teacher I've ever had! It's totally possible to get an A with him... I ended 101 with a 98% somehow! Just make sure to participate and never miss a class or be late!
I am not learning anything. It's easy to get by but it's one of those NO-ENGLISH-ALLOWED classes. So if you ask in English because you don't know how to ask in Spanish, you get yelled at. Not a very effective method of teaching. And pretty much all we do is take a quiz and watch boring videos. I've had more fun having blood drawn.
I think Professor blake could possibly be the funniest teacher ever! Plus he is also really good! Just come to class on time..every time, turn your cell off or leave it in the car, and enjoy the show!! He will make you laugh so hard and if you just follow those 2 rules you will never be the butt of any jokes, and you will really learn!
Sr Blake is entertaining,& provides best explanations of concepts/grammar I've ever had (I've taken other foreign languages).Study what he says (for tests)& you'll do well but you can't slide by without effort.Attendance REQ'd, be punctual, participate in class,& turn cell phones OFF! Had him for 101/102.Highly recommended if you want to learn!
Great Teacher! Is great with languages (can speak 8 different ones.) This is by far my favorite teacher! Just make sure you do work and study or you wont last long.
Mr.Blake is a very very helpful teacher who goes out of his way to make sure that you understand the material being taught in class. I have taken him for both 101 and 102 and would take him for 201 and 202 if I wasn't transfering at the end of the semester. I struggled with spanish all through high school and now I'm getting A's and B's.
he is so mean! and i could never ask a Q in class bc i thought he would put me in the spot light..
If you really want to learn Spanish you have to go to Professor Blake. He is the best language teacher at NVCC I ever had. I never learnd so much of a language...What will happen if you don't do your homework? You'll get a bad grade?Do your homework and go to class its college!
Do not take his class if you're taking Spanish solely as a requirement to graduate. He demands way too much of the average disinterested student who's being forced to study a Foreign language. That said, if you really want to learn Spanish very well and have the extra time and attention to commit to it, he's perfect. Does not tolerate slacking.
Excellent teacher. Go to class, do the homework and pay attention to Destinos episodes and you'll do fine.
Not a good teacher. Spent hours working on his Destinos computer homework just to throw it all out. He has some favorites, but the real problem is not actually learning the spanish. You'll be on your own for that. I recommend J. Meredith instead.
Not an easy class by far, but I have never had Spanish explaned so well before. He is extremely accomidating if you talk to him and work with him! Amazing teacher!
I did not enjoy this teacher. He plays favorites- if you're a favorite you'll find him hilarious and great. If not, you'll be ignored and harassed. He'll assume what kind of student you are without giving you a chance. Monotonous classes-ALWAYS destinos, EVERY class. Has an evident American accent in his Spanish.
Great teacher. Really cares for his students. Wants you to succeed. Do your homework and participate in class and you'll do fine. Anything you need, he will help. Very smart and fun teacher.
Great....
I had a D before the Final Exam, took the exam (which was CAKE) and ended up passing the class with a B. THATS how easy this class is. I failed like 4 tests and got zeroes on two quizzes and STILL passed with a B. Just come to class take notes and do the homework including watching the videos.
Amazing Teacher. I will never forget him! Like everyone said, don't take this class unless you are serious about learning. No cell phones and don't be late. Do EVERYTHING he says and you will do great! Remember, he wants you to succeed even more that you do yourself. He is OUTSTANDING!
He is EXTREMELY specific about what needs to get down and how. I think it's justified, though. I learned a lot!! His teaching method is great, just follow directions, show up and listen and you're pretty much set. Show that you try and respect him and he'll like you. He also likes to chat after class, so feel free to talk to him!
If you wan tto learn the language you should take this class. Professor explains the material very clearly, he is willing to help, and he is funny. His class is very entertaining and interesting, and most important, VERY educating. Great professor!!!!!
With our class, all we did EVERY class was watch a video then talk about it afterwards. He quizzed us on a verb form he never directly taught us. He plays favorites, even they admit it, and if you're a "favorite" you'll love it. If not, good luck. Only offers night classes.
This teacher is something else. He can be nice, but he is sooo rude sometimes. We have to ask to go to the bathroom? This isnt high school. He teaches way to fast and expects everyone to be experts as soon as he is done teaching a certain subject. He picks on students sometimes, which I dont think is right at all. Not taking him again.
The best Professor ever! Funny and very helpful. You will really learn if you attend the class and make the assignments. Take him if you want to learn, and are not lazyyy
If you got lower than a B in this class, I'm sorry but you are a moron. This is the easiest class I have ever taken. Not to mention professor Blake is a great teacher. Go to class, don't use your phone, watch videos, do the worksheets, and you are sure to get an A.
Mr. Blake, or whatever you want to call him, is a very harsh teacher. He is very judgmental and is quick to walk out of a class. In my class, he doesn't really like us and it is very present in his attitude. He has a very harsh glare and I don't think he is a great teacher. He is fair in his teacher. I will not be taking his class again.
He gave us a quiz that he admitted would not be graded just to humiliate students who doodled during his boring videos, and the quiz was mostly geography questions like "on what street in Sevilla will you find such and such church?" He picks his favorites and makes class hell for the rest of his students. Completely unfair.
ok so i didn't actually have him as a legit teacher but he subbed my class at least three times. He's an intersting guy... nice but maybe shouldn't teach college... maybe kindergarden hispanic kids? basically DO NOT TAKE SPANISH AT LOUDOUN BOTH TEACHERS SUCK AND YOU WILL REGRET IT 100%
Okay I hate foreign language just took it for UVA but if you need the credits take Blake he is very easy just go to every class all you do is watch a spanish tv show called destinos and you can sit quietly the whole time he wont call on you quizzes are a joke, the midterm is pretty easy to get a B on lots of vocab which is doable, final is optional
Professor Blake is an awesome teacher. He has his quirks and will not tolerate cell phones. If you go to class, do your homework, and watch the required videos you will do well. He is an extremely smaert man and has a unique personality. I had him for SPA101 and plan to take him for 201 and 212. I highly recommend him.
This guy should not be teaching. I completely agree with the people who said he picks favorites and, just in case you're still trying to decide, I'll reiterate what someone else said: "DO NOT TAKE SPANISH AT LOUDOUN BOTH TEACHERS SUCK AND YOU WILL REGRET IT 100%" Even my counselor recommended I didn't take him... Wish I would've listened.
Professor Blake is a wonderful teacher. At first, I was cautious. Then, as time progressed, I became more suited with the fact that he was a teacher looking for all his students to pass. I sat down with a tutor and low and behold I passed the class with no problem. He is excellent and would give him a strong recommendation to all that want to learn
I have had five spanish teachers and he is by far my favorite! This guy definitely knows his spanish. If you pay attention, watch videos, and make sure you understand the worksheets, the quizes are really easy! He's also very lively and funny so the class is interesting! Just turn your cell phone off!
Go to class and be a good student and you'll pass with a good grade. Quizzes can be a bit tough though.
I'm a bit biased because I speak spanish, so the class was easy for me. Professor Blake is hilarious though no doubt, but the damn destinos is boring. Do the homework and study for the quizzes! He can exempt you for the final if you do well in them
I feel like I need to address the "Plays Favorites" comments. Professor Blake enjoys engaging with students who PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AND DO THEIR WORK. Point blank period. I was never an A student in his class, in fact I got by with a C in 202, but this class is a blast as long as you PARTICIPATE and don't sit there like you're dead.
Off-beat humor may deter some, and his busy sched means you must make effort to see him. Watches each student to see how they are in class, and gives them the same. He will try to help you if you show any interest. Not easy, and expects much, but it can be done. Get a dictionary; it's part of the grade.
His 102 class was easy. Just look over your notes to prepare for quizzes. Also, there was one take-home quiz. Not a lot of homework. you can skip final exam if you have a grade higher than C. He sometimes points out students by saying "i will send you back to 101" or "you are not going graduate this class", but it is kind of funny lol. Got an A+.
How to pass this class with an A: Don't miss class. Check all of your maps twice before turning it in. Read textbook or ask him for help for quizzes (easy). Study for midterm (you CAN get an A). Turn computer work on time. participate! study hard for vocab quizzes (just don't fail them or else you take the final. they are not that hard). got an A!
The class is ease and if you go to class, he sees that you are studying or at least trying to and making your homework you are pretty much set in the class. DO you need help? ask him... he will have all the patience to help you, but again just do the homework so he sees that you are working out the subject. Easy A class.
Professor Blake is an exceptional teacher-- One you wont come across very often! Blake takes an interest in his students and makes every effort on his part to make sure that his students do well in his class. That being said he will fail you if you do NOT make an effort (you would have to try to fail though). Take this professor- five star!
Hard Have to put in a lot of work.
He is the type of professor who is tough and expects his students to do a lot of work, but he deeply CARES. If you want to succeed in his class and put in the effort, you will. He offers test corrections and office hours to go over material. Plus, he knows Spanish in and out. He is FANTASTIC.
He is easy going. He really doesn't like for you to use your phone. He gives you fair amount of HW its your choice to do it and if you don't that's how your grade will be your grade
I'll admit he knows his Spanish, but his class was way too demanding for me and I found him to be incredibly rude! Huge workload and a bit advanced for a "beginning" Spanish class. He was very rude sometimes and would yell at us and humiliate other students who were having trouble. I will never take him again.
Prof. Blake is outstanding. A few things: pay very close attn in class. He moves at a steady pace and unforgiving pace. Know the rules, know the vocab, do the assigned work, come prepared, and please study. You will need to know the material down to every accent mark. He won't set you up for failure but he has no problem failing you.
He did not create a positive learning environment. He sped through the material. He cut class short. He stopped teaching because someone's phone went off accidentally. He did not let go of a student's actions, like being late, and would mention it every class period. He was not helpful and was not willing to work with the students.
Blake is the best Spanish teacher I ever had. He relates Spanish to English so it's easier for you to comprehend. If you stay on his good side by always bringing your materials and not using your phone, you'll do fine.
Professor Blake was very helpful. I took his summer class and it was crazy with studying but if you put in the effort to go see him during his office hours and ask questions on what you don't understand, he is willing to help you through it. You get what you put in. He explains the materials well and doesn't mind answering questions in class.
The most miserable class I've ever had. Prof. Blake was extremely rude to those of us who struggled and for a 101 class, the work load was very heavy. Even with hours of studying and a tutor, I still struggled and had to drop the class. Don't take him!
By far the hardest Intro to Spanish class I've ever taken. The class runs 2 hours and 50 minutes, but on top of that you get close to 20 workbook pages for homework, plus 2 hours of Rosetta Stone a week ! Half of my class dropped and a lot of kids got C's. Blake only cares about completing his lesson plan, not whether the class knows the material.
Only take this class if you have a lot of extra time to put into it. He is passionate about the subject and cares about his students, but he teaches at a rapid pace and assigns a ton of work! If you are a full-time student taking other classes, it's going to be extremely difficult to pass with a good grade. One of the hardest classes I've taken.
If I wanted to sit in a No English allowed classroom watching boring old Spanish soap operas and Dora The Explorer, I wouldn't be in college. His class is a total waste of time. All you do is watch videos and then take a quiz on them afterwards. He was no help and just sat on his computer the whole time. Cranky attitude too.
I took him for 101,102 &201. He loves when students show interest in the subject. Tests are difficult but corrections make a HUGE difference. I've pulled up many grades just by going over the test with him. If you help yourself he WILL help you. He demands a lot from his students so come prepared with the work he assigns. He knows his stuff!
I liked him as a professor, but didn't care for his teaching. Moves at a very fast pace and assigns a lot of work. Hard to keep up with all of it. He was willing to help me every step of the way though. I felt a bit uncomfortable in his class though as he is a bit harsh and made fun of students. Just be prepared if you take him.
This was the worse experience for a class and a professor I've ever had at NOVA. Gives you ton of work, speaks awful spanish and very fast. As soon as he figured out he didn't like me, Professor Blake was awful. Extremely irritable and unprofessional about the smallest things like cell phones and what not. Please beware.
Very strict. doesn't like to talk about anything in class other than Spanish, sometimes.
I won't be taking him for Spanish 102. I've never been in such a hostile learning environment. He will yell and humiliate you if you can't answer a question or break one of his rules. I one time got up to use the bathroom and he yelled at me because I didn't ask. This isn't High School! Just an all around unprofessional and rude teacher.
Took him for 101 and hated his class. He was very inditmating and I swore I would never take him again. Well, 2 years later I had to for 202 and he was way more relaxed and if you show him that you want to do well in the class he will help you. I should have gotten a C I got an A because I always meet with him and asked a lot of questions.
If you want to completely abandon your socialwork life for school, get humiliated for not being able to answer a question in class, be treated like you are still in Grade School, spend every night doing 30+ pages of homework, or just have an all around miserable learning experience, look no further than Senor Blake!
Good teacher, but has unfair policies. Play by his rules and come to class to get an A. If you skip class or misspell words on tests, things will be much harder.
I dropped his class after the first few sessions. He has a huge ego and comes has very arrogant and belittles those who aren't up to his standards. I was having difficulty pronouncing a word in class and he made fun of me for it multiple times throughout the class. I'd recommend taking someone else for Spanish.
You'll either love or hate his class. I fall on the later category. Blake is a very intimidating type of teacher. He really does want you to succeed, but he has a weird way of coming across and I did not care for it. I was offended on several occasions by things he said. Lots of homework and tests are tough. I won't take him for 102. Be Warned!
I took his summer class and withdrew after 2 sessions! His lectures are unorganized and he speeds through material. He gets mad if you ask questions during class and doesn't give any breaks and won't allow you to use the bathroom during lectures. Way too difficult for an introduction level course.
Hard class. Mr. Blake is the kind of professor where his passion for subject gets in the way of his teaching. He really does want you to do well, but he also pushes a bit too hard in doing so. He can be pretty intimidating and WILL call on you in class. Lots of book work and tests can be hard. Only take him if you don't have other options.
This class was not what I expected. Professor Blake was not all that great he made some inappropriate comments to all of us and thought they were funny. He would say "Get That wrong on the test and I'll Kill you" then laugh about it. I feel he's a good professor but the comments and things were unnecessary.
He's the professor everybody warned you about. Very strict and tough, but cares and will bend over backwards to help you. Be prepared to spend at least 10 hours a week studying and participate because he will call on you and humiliate you if you can't answer his questions. With that said, I did learn a lot and he was very helpful.
I'll put it like this, if you take Spanish in High-School you'll be alright. I didn't and this class was incredibly frustrating for me. He know's his Spanish, but teaches very fast and way too much work for a introduction level course. Could be helpful, but very intimidating. I'd take someone else, especially if this is your first Spanish course.
Very nice, and personable. A lot of extra work and not always clear about what he wants. Gives LOTS of assignments and quizzes, and not always with ample notice. Not a good fit for a working adult.
Clear about hw which is graded by completion, great answers to ALL questions, world traveler so he can explain a lot of nuances in meaning, and the best prof at connecting students to resources, help, and campus life. Tests are difficult, lots of hw. I found his facetious manner refreshing but it can be taken as harsh to the thinner-skinned. Study.
This was not a good class. He was sometimes nice and other times really rude. Expects you to have prior knowledge of Spanish on the first day. Lots of homework and the tests are difficult.
Beware, he is arrogant, rude, and does not help. If you do not know the answer he will make fun of you. Avoid him at all cost. He thinks he was better than us, because he studied aboard. Tons of homework, the test are very hard and he will not tell you what questions you got wrong because it is an online-in class exams, he cares about spelling
Do not have this as your professor. He is arrogant, expects you to know his stuff before hand, his classes are to long, and won't allow anyone to use the restroom during class. I repeat do not pic his course.
This man is one of the worst professors that I ever had. I recommend students to never have him as your teacher. He is arrogant, rude, expects you to know spanish before the first day in class, and says your not studying in front of the whole class. P.S. if you miss more than 1 class he will fail you.
Excellent professor if you really want to learn the language. He sets high standards, explains well, has office hours when he will address any questions and help you as much as you want. He has low tolerance for students who come to class unprepared. Expect to work hard and you will learn a lot. If you do not put the effort in, you may not pass
I wouldn't recommend this class. Very hard for an introduction course. He is nice sometimes, but others was cranky and rude and even humiliated students a few times which I felt was very inappropriate. It's a hard class and he expects a lot of you. I won't be taking him for 102.
This class made my first semester at NOVA a real pain. I didn't find his teaching effective and he expects way too much for those just taking this class for a foreign language requirement. Some days he would be nice and others really cranky. Not a good class to start off the college experience. Take a different professor.
I understand both sides of the reviews on the page. He is a very knowledgeable and helpful professor who will help you as much as you need to pass. With that said, he expects a lot from you and his personality can rub some the wrong way. I really didn't like him at first, but he grew on me the more the semester went along and got to know him.
Knows Spanish well, but did not communicate well with the class. Teaches way too much material at once which makes the class very confusing and tough to keep up with. All the tests are done on the computer so one small mistake and you'll get a 0 on a question. Did not like the way the class was structured.
This was an intense class. Lots of note-taking and studying is required if you want to do well. By halfway through the semester half of our class had dropped the course. He really expects you to have prior knowledge of the language beforehand. He could be helpful, but he is intimidating. I wouldn't take him if you are just doing it for credits.
Very informative, but not approachable and ovebearing. He teaches you a lot of information, but his tests are hard and lectures are all over the place. Didn't feel comfortable asking questions because he can very condescending towards you. Not a comfortable environment.
Horrible Class! Made my first semester of college a terrible experiences. He seemed like he was alright at first, but as the semester went on he would get very condescending towards the class when we went over new material. Very strict rules (No going to the bathroom without asking) and his tests are very hard! Won't take him again.
Professor Blake is an amazing person! He is the type of professor that will grow on you as the semester rolls around. He really cares about his students, even though sometimes it seems he's being tough, but it's rewarding in the long run. If you do the work and pay attention, then you should do well. One of the best professors you could get.
I was in Professor Blake's class nearly 20 years ago now, and the impact he made shows in how far Ive come in life. He's an excellent professor, tough, but fair. He cares very deeply for his students and their success. He wrote a recommendation letter for me years ago that I still have, and I'm happy to now call him a friend and colleague.
He is a very tough and stint professor and I didn't always agree with his methods. With that said, he is very caring and wants you to succeed even if it doesn't seem like it. He didn't like me at first and I hated him, but when I went to him for help he couldn't have been more helpful and saved me from failing the class. Very hard, but do-able.
Professor Blake is a real asset to Northern Virginia Community College. A man with great advice not just on Spanish, but academics in general and will always offer support if you decide to seek it on your part, I haven't had a better teacher at this campus. Be prepared to take notes and be active/pay attention in lecture.
Worst teacher ever. Not clear on grading, online homework and tests are way harder than taught. Hes extremely rude, not just to students, but to older adult students. Will not listen or work with you. Changes grading rubric the last day of class. Im proficient in Spanish and I nearly got a C bc he cannot teach and expects you to know it on y own
Hes very knowledgeable and teaches the material really well. Hes also friendly and nice. Theres a test for each chapter, but they are only 20 questions and are all from the worksheets you do in class. Theyre identical. He literally gives you the correct answers in class. The only way you could fail is if you just winged the tests each time.
The material was difficult, but the professor had good humor and vast knowledge of Latin American culture that he integrated into the linguistic learning. He is a very much effective teacher. He is even more effective during his office hours. The tests are the only thing I would change, as even a slight spelling error gives you a 0 on the question.
I don't even know where to begin where to start with the guy. He is extremely friendly to all of his students, first of all. Whenever I see him outside the class, he always takes the time to chat. Secondly, he will do anything you think needs to be done to pass, especially during office hours. Overall, the best professor on campus, by far.
His class is structured with his own interest in mind rather than students, a series of tricks/gimmicks, seems he is interested in making life more difficult/not expanding knowledge. Changes grading criteria, hides info so that you can only get from his office hours, bizarre test structures which test memory not knowledge, plays favors. Got A tho
I dont understand the negative reviews on here. Professor Blake is an amazing professor and has very clear grading criteria but requires you to earn the grade you want, its not an easy A. He pulls right from what he goes over on class for quizzes.
I do not understand the negative reviews for professor blake. He is a very passionate individual and his grading could not be more clear. His office is always open for questions. I learned more in his 6-week course than I did in high school Spanish.
DIfficult class, make sure to write down everything he puts up on the board and always do the vocabulary and maps. Go to his office hours if you need help, he will help you with anything. Great guy.
Very smart man, but his teaching style wasn't for me. Very strict and assigns a lot of work. You can't miss more than 3 classes or you fail. He is very passionate about Spanish and will help you, but I did feel like he could be rude to some of the students in our class. I probably won't take him again if I can.
Finishing up my degree at NOVA so I had to take him. He's by far the hardest Spanish professor I've ever had. Very strict/tough grader and assings a lot of homework! While he cares about his students, he could be very rude towards them during lectures. I normally did well in Spanish, but got a C with hard work. Glad I only had to take him once.
Is unfriendly and condescending based on mood, quizzes are memorization which dont help with writing or speaking the language. Midterms and finals are from worksheets but even after studying everything he manages to twist the exams so that everything the students studied for werent actually on the exam or were replaced with something else.
If you want to learn Spanish, he is awesome. He's well organized & provides excellent materials. Learning a language is not easy, but his teaching style is very effective. Requirements are clear. Learn the weekly vocab. Turn in the work. Class participation is required. No electronics in class. Great teacher.
Professor Blake is a great Spanish professor! Turn in your work on time. Bring your textbook because that is where the notes are and we do activities from it. There is a test for every chapter, two quizzes, and an oral presentation.
I really admire the amount of organization Prof. Blake employs as well as the modernity of the material. The bulk of the class revolved around the first 5 chapters of the Portales textbook and all of our tests were open book. As a result, the class kind of felt like high school. In lectures, however, Prof. Blake always expanded on topics in detail.
Professor Blake is an outstanding educator. At first, it was difficult for me to establish myself in the classroom because I was shy. However, I realized that I needed to create a relationship & properly communicate. The worksheets for SPA 101 have the same questions that will be on the quiz & exam. Pay attention and get the answers in class.
I took Prof. Blake for SPA 101 as well. SPA 102 was a little harder in terms of learning grammar but the lectures and Portales exercises really helped us learn the concepts. The tests were a mix of open book and closed book and were a little too easy to be honest. However, Prof. Blake always gave extensive lectures to ensure that we were learning.
Professor Blake will forever be my favorite NOVA professor. This is the second class I have taken of his. I will be taking another class of his. Show up to class and turn in your work. Be respectful during class. He responds to emails fast. He doesn't make class hard.
easy but his structure of the class is confusing and unorganized. you literally are completing online h/w course on your own, it grades you automatically. Due dates to assignments were all over the place and he made it difficult to find them and just wants to look at the syllabus. Theres more to teaching than stating to look at the syllabus.
This professor is unnecessarily critical. If you don't submit assignments exactly the way he tells you he will not give you a grade, even if you turn it in on time. On exam day my grandmother had her funeral and even after showing him proof of her obituary he wouldn't let me take the exam. This guy makes no exceptions. withdraw if life gets tough
I've taken Professor Blake for 101, 102, and now 201 and I've never understood why he got such bad ratings. At first, he seemed really tough, but after going to his office hours and getting a 1on1 talk with him made this course infinity more enjoyable. Paying attention in class makes this an easy A while still learning so much. DEF Recommend!
I really like him. I have taken him for two classes now and he really does want you to succeed, but he won't just hand you the A. You have to study the material and know it to do well on the tests, but he helps you with homework during class and really knows his Spanish. Take him if you can!
Very rude and unprofessional. On the very first day of class he was hostile and dismissive of me when I had to ask a question. Dropped the class immediately as he was also trying to push an almost $500 dollar book on the class. Would not recommend at all.
I don't understand how this professor has ever received a positive rating. If you have not taken Spanish before you WILL not do well in this class. Everything is online and you are expected to know the material before you come to class. If you make a mistake you will be constantly called out for it. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
I don't really understand all these negative review about Professor Blake. I just had him for SPA 201 and I felt like he made it very easy to learn and receive and A. He goes by the textbook and online portal which correlate with the class exactly. There are lots of online portal assignments but when completed it makes the exams very easy
If you are taking this class because you want to speak Spanish well, don't take this professor. His pronunciation is terrible, he can't roll his Rs or pronounce right. If you learn Spanish through him you will be made fun of because of the accent you have because of him. Besides this, he is incredibly passive aggressive and so slow when teaching.
I've had Prof Blake for both SPA 101/201 and I enjoy his class. He is very down-to-business and doesn't use class time to chit chat or humor students who ask dumb questions. He is, however, very approachable and will make time to personally tutor his students outside of class. He's predictable and I like that. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
Rude and would make students feel uneducated on purpose even though it was a beginner-level course. As a 100s level course, it was easy, but he was so rude it made me dislike going to the online meetings. I'm not understanding how he has positive reviews.
He is okay. Very lenient with grades. Tests are easy if you studied. Could be nicer sometimes but ok. His lectures are extremely mundane ! There are also opportunities to speak (presentations) and they are graded. Overall: it's okay!
one of the worst teachers I've ever had. get angry when you don't know the answer. there are about only 11 grades so they effect you alot. he doesn't explain the information well and isn't helpful when you are not doing good. gets upset If you are one minute late to class don't think that you are taking other classes DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN
For some, he can be a difficult person to deal with. If you can just get past his personality, he is a pretty good professor and person. He does care but it can come off rude. Still a very straightforward class and if you just do the assignments then it's an easy A. Tests are copied straight from the textbook. Hewill also help outside of class.
I can understand the positive reviews but also the negative. I dropped his class. He is rude and strict, and everything in canvas does not show up on your to do list, so if you aren't checking the millions of announcements he posts you won't get it. Super inconveinent. I'm assuming he's better in person. If you're taking online, do not do it.
His personality can rub you the wrong way. He's not very understanding of scheduling and you could easily miss something if you're not reviewing every single announcement in detail. His syllabus is not filled out very accurately for online meetings. I'm not a fan.
The professor can be quite demanding, but engaging with his teaching style pays off. unstuck study helped me prepare effectively for this class.
