Carney is a great professor. He always answers emails fast and helpfully. Challenges me to think critically and write longer papers than Im used to writing. He uses cool videos. The lectures are good and interesting but sometimes a little bit too long :-)

Dr. Carney is one of the best teachers ive ever had because he cares so much about how i'm doing in the class. He is always asking me like how things are going for me with the assignment. He really makes me think about my thinking and my writing alot. He is even funny sometimes with his sense of humor. Would definately reccommend him!

Helpful and always responds to emails. Fair grader so far but i havent received my final grade yet. He uses a class theme, so our theme is something like technolgy and humanity. He has very interesting assignments, but he talks too long about them.

Only downfall about him is that he gets so into lectures he doesn't answer questions/give good detail because he talks SO MUCH. But his class is not hard if you do your JOURNALS. You get them stamped by him and if you read all the readings and do your essays on time you will get an A. Plus he isn't a hard grader on papers or quizzes.

Good teacher. You can easily get a good grade in his class if you handle the workload. As long as you keep up with the workload there should be no reason you shouldn't get an A

Dr. Carney is a wonderful professor. He is really into his subject matter and gives you alot of information and help. Sure you have to read but hey this is college? Duh!

His class makes u think that's for sure! He really loves teaching and helping u be a better college student. He really wants us to think for ourselves. He is super flexible, always responds to email and very fair, but sometimes the schedule gets confusing because he frequently adjusts it. The good part is the adjustments always give u more time.

Do your Journals. Follow his essay guidelines. Do these two things and you will be fine.

Loved this class. Even though I only got a B, i learned how to write college essays and do research for papers I never learned in high school. Dr. C is always helpful and supportive he responds to emails quickly. The prezi projects were interesting but group grades for these assignments mean you need to be in good groups to succeed.

Carney has so much love for what he teaches! He's energetic and he knows a lot about the subjects we covered; it was really interesting! Work amount was fair and so was his grading, but I wish we had more time than 5 weeks in a cramped summer class!

Dr. Carney is a great teacher. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. The Prezis were fun to do and very interesting but it's hard if not everybody in the group does their fair share. I had quite a few emails and he always answered fast and was very helpful. I learned so much about how to do research in this class, too. Great guy!!!!

He was a really good teacher, Pay attention and don't stare at your phone all class. The assignments were very self explanatory. i got a 100 on my midterm. if your looking for a class, this is definitely it.

Mr. Carney 's class is great because of the Prezi group modules and presentation days (he has four "modules" in the semester which means being in four new groups). It is always interesting class discussion when we have these. Mr. Carney also responds to emails quickly and always wants to help when we have questions. His essay assignments are not too hard

Dr Carney is for sure the besI English teacher I've ever had. he goes out of his way to find stuff for us to read and write about that really matters ! He always wanted to help us and he always respected everybody' s opinions in class discussions. I'd definitely take him again!

Dr. C is an excellent teacher. just be ready to read and the sky will be your starting point. got an "A" in the class. thanks Dr. C for bringing out the best in me. he expects you to do all assigned essays. even though English is my second language i still made an A. Take Professor C because he will carry you along all the way. he is the man

Dr. Carney is an amazing professor who cares about students being successful in his class and on their jobs when they graduate from college. He is always there for you when you have questions (always checks his email and answers fast). He can be wordy sometimes, but he loves what he's is talking about and hopes to get u excited about it also.

Dr. Carney is a great professor. He shows passion in his teachings for the course, and brings interesting conversations and lessons to the classroom. Take this professor if you are looking for the group class fun and discussions. Every assignment in the class is fun and interesting. Do not hesitate to take his classes, he will be great and helpful.

Dr. C is a great guy. This was an argument class and he respected the opinions of all the students in his class. He is a tough grader, but there are extra credit and rewrites if you do not exceed maximum absences. I felt like Dr.C really wants us to succeed in college and in life. His lectures were great and the assignments were interesting.

This review is for his humanities class. Half of the class dropped because of quizzes and group projects. My advice is to not drop and just stick to it. It might seem a little rough but effort is HUGE in this class. There are many extra credit opportunities. Read the the book and be engaged during the group projects. Major tests are open book!!

Dr. C's class was awesome. I didn't get the A I wanted but I know I earned a solid B. No complaints. He always had good discussions in class and he respected everyone's opinions. He was very quick about getting back to emails I sent and other students said the same thing. His group projects were not like any other class and good essay assignments.

This is my first year in college and Dr. Carney is what I was hoping college teachers would be like. Instead of high school teachers just waiting for us to give them the answers to things we didn't even care about, Carney makes learning fun and makes us want to read the assigned readings and write essays!

English was one of the subjects that I hated the most but not until I get enrolled into Dr. Carneys class. He explained the assignments very clearly. His Group projects are fun and give you the opportunity to interact with your class mates and discuss the topics indepth and most of all He respects everyones opinions. Dr. Carney's class is a class that evey college student could dream of. He is super nice. Eventhough english is not my first language I succeed his class by his help. He will go above and beyond to help the students. I wish i could take him for rest of my college classes. Hcc needs more professors like him. Just take him and you will never regret.

If he gets a bit more organized with his weekly hybrids, he has the potential to be a really good teacher. Things are a little shifty, but he's a good and helpful professor when it comes right to it. He's pretty open minded and is willing to discuss several topics.

Best class I've taken so far. Do the assignments and listen to instructions carefully and you will get an A easily. There will be group projects, so if others don't participate you will have to take charge and be a leader. Met great peers that became friends in the group projects. Gives extra credit.

Dr. C told us on the first day that he only discovered his hybrid classes were not traditional classes and he had to make alot of changes to the schedule at the last minute to switch from two days a week to one day. That is probably why things were not as clear, but Dr. C gave great assignments and always responded to my emails very helpfully.

Dr. Carney's class was great. This class was a hybrid. I thought he was very easy to follow, and gave excellent lectures. Yes, he is a challenging teacher, but hey, this is college. I learned a lot and had to stretch my intellectual capabilities. HE is definitely worth taking and very interesting.

Dr. Carney takes his job and your education seriously. The amount of work he gives (plenty) reflects the amount of learning he wants you to do. If he talks a lot it's because he wants to make sure you have all the information you could possibly need. If you are passionless for learning DO NOT take his class. Work hard and you will get an A.

Dr. Carney is a very knowledgable and good teacher. Your mind does have to work pretty fast though, to keep up with him. He is a tough grader and expects the best from his students. I did not like the group grading just because some of my group members were lazy and clueless. Be on your A game to pass this class. Clear grading & expectations.

Dr. C is a great teacher! He is very well-rounded and assigns controversial topics which make you think. Always e-mails back in a timely manner. The group projects(3) are confusing at first but you get the hang of it. Email him about lack of participation. Own the material read. Turn in your essay ahead of time to the writing lab for extra credit.

I took Dr.C in the SUMMER and he is so cool!!! You guys should know how summer is and he always stayed mindful about it. I recommend him to all my friends and anyone who is taking English 1301. I've taken away so much from his lectures and assignments that I feel that he has opened my mind up to so much more.

Dr. Carney is a really good teacher. I took his summer class, there is load of assignments because of the short period. We did 3 essays, 2 group module and Journals. He is very understanding , just got to communicate with him. He offers a lot of extra credit take advantage of them. Overall I would recommend him !

Carney's class was awesome!!!! He really inspired my interest in a lot of subjects through Humanities. He always seemed interested in how we were doing and he accepted make-up work when I was gone for two classes because of emergency. He quickly answered my emails and he is really caring professor!!

Dr C is a great teacher . Loved the class . I never expected to learn so much. Very inspiring and caring. He really knows his stuff. I did very well but you do have to read and view the resources. Uses his own files so we did not have to buy the $140 book

All these whiny students in this section. These kids probably haven't even been challenged before, now that they have to do some actual work they are mad they aren't doing well. I'm 29 years old and just started school again, I enjoyed Professor Carneys class, he wants you to LEARN! Do your work, put in effort get an A, that is what I got!

I took dr. Carneys hybrid class and he is amazing and different from other professors. I always thought I was a bad writer but I got all A's on my essays he's an easy grader if you follow what he says. A LOTTTTTTTT of extra credit opportunities. VERY understanding of your situation. Please take him!

Take Professor Carney, he is very understanding when it comes to grading and although at first, the hybrid class may seem tough, he is very easy once you get the hang of his grading style and the way he posts assignments. You will not regret taking him unless you do ALL the assignments and be in class on time.

I took an hybrid class from him and he will make you work for your grades. There will be 3 essays and your grades will going to be based on that, but the class is so boring.

His course is very well organised. He gives out details and discusses the essay in detail a long time before due date. His peer response activity really helps enhance the work. If you are eligible there is an opportunity for extra credit which is great to up your grade. His midterm and final are not strictly graded since they are in class essays.

Dr. C's class was the best!!!!! I learned so much and I built up my confidence in writing so much! Carney is funny and his assignments are serious college papers! I have never been so challenged to think in a class before. He always made time for my questions (a lot of them) and he was a fair grader. He is big on group projects and participation.

Mr. Carney is a cool teacher overall. His papers are a bit of challenge, but he's there to help and he gets back to emails. In the hybrid class our group projects went fine, but I was in a good group and we all communicated well. I can see how being in a bad group can make it harder. This was also his first semester using Canvas, as he told us.

Dr Carney helped me through this class. I was very nervous about taking this class and I feel like I can write for all college classes and writing research papers where I use supporting opinion. Tje extra credit assignment is worth, make sure you wouldnt pligarize any main essays because i did and get a 0 out of 150 for an essay which was the reason i didnt get an A.

Dr. C is a great professor. I took his online class and he specifically explained what he expected from his students and how to do the work, I would not say it is an easy A because I had to do a lot of writing but it was fun and creative.

Took him back to back semesters for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016. I just felt like I need to give credit where its due. Awesome professor! He is an artist with his words, really inspirational. His class made you challenge the status quo and think outside the box. This aint your ordinary ENGL class. Man, they need more of you Dr. Carney!!

Although he is a tough grader, he is still one of the best professors I have come across. He only cares for those who care. He brought out the professionalism in me. Even if you are not a professional writer, just do your best. He like long writing so explain a point thoroughly before going to other points.

Mr. Carney (Dr. C ) is a cool guy and a caring professor. He gave me helpful feedbacks on my essays and always replied quickly to my emails. The essays were fun and challenging topics that were not the easiest but helped me a lot to write for the college level! Would take again and recommend him.

Dr. Carney is passionate about what he does. Workload can be heavy but as long as you do the work and he sees your effort you will be fine. Lectures can be a bit boring. The reading material was interesting. He gives a lot of extra credit and he is understanding. He does seem a bit unorganized and scatterbrained at times but he means well.

I would advice you to take his class if you want to learn, He is simply the best. he is a good grader with extra credit. You should be ready to study as well . I took his class and got an A .

I had my sisters proofread my papers, and they said it seemed as though a middle schooler wrote them. Every paper I turned in however, I got a 100 on. He grades really easy. However, he does not care for any personal problems that you might encounter and cannot get around. There are three essays, two projects, two in-class essays. I would recommend

Carney is really good as a teacher because he cares ALOT about helping you do your best! He responds back to emails soon after you send them and his grading is fair. There ate three formal papers that get graded hard but then 8 journals that he grades easy if you try to fill a full page for each one and follow the prompts. Midterm is essay exam.

I loved this class with Dr. Carney overall. He is very detailed in his essay assignments and the group projects were good (I didn't think I would like them at first, but I had a great group). The exams are both in class essays and there is barely enough time to get a good essay written on them; just be prepared. He allows open book and notes.

Carney's class was the best I have had in college so far! My teachers in high school made me hate writing, but Carney's class made me realize I like writing and I can get pretty good grades. He is a fair grader and he is always there to answer questions. Take him.

He can seem a little disorganized at times, but he makes up for it by being super nice. He talks a lot but he also listens if you have problems. I had a relative past away and he was very kind. Fair warning: he doesnt care about excuses for not getting work done on time, especially if you dont talk to him first about it. Also, follow directions.

I am taking Dr. Carney this summer 2019. Dr. Carney is a good English professor. He cares a lot about his students. He wants everyone to participate in the class works and can bend the rules to help the students. He replies emails as soon as they hit his mail box. Dr. Carney is a good grader.

Dr. Carney is caring to his student, he gives a lot of homework but he explains what he expects from the homework. He gives feedback, he is a very hardworking professor, he grades in time.

Professor Carney gives interesting assignments that engage me to write and think with critical eye. He responds so fast to email or concerns I brought to him and reassured me to focus on my class success! In the end I earned a B in Dr. Carneys class. Fair grader and cares about student success.

Dr. Carney is excellent and very clear . I think anyone who says otherwise doesnt write, read, or think very well. I am in honors classes and he teaches in that program. My class was great and the others agreed . This is college. My advice: Get over yourself or drop out.

He's very punctual about what he wants. I took him as a hybrid prof. Group assignments from a book of novels and you do a presentation three times throughout the semester. He loves to talkkkk but also likes engagement from students. I like him cause he gives good feedback on whatever you have submitted. Put work in your essays! Nice prof tho.

I took him online. Hes a good professor, you just have to be on top of your work, read, and know the deadlines because he does not take late work. If your planning to slack, this is probably not the professor to get.

I took this professor for ENGL1301 and ENGL1302. I took regular term for ENGL 1301. We had 3 group presentations, and 3 essays. The midterm and final are very easy, it's just writing. He does not do standardized testing. I took the summer term for ENGL 1302 and it was a lot of work, but if you enjoy writing ab interesting topics you will be fine.

Professor Carney is a wonderful teacher. He was always available and very encouraging. He answered all my questions. You must follow directions closely and effort is really rewarded. He really makes you work hard, but I would take his class anytime.

I took Dr. C for Comp 1 and have him now for Comp.2. I got a B+ last time and am aiming for A this semester. Sure, he talk a lot but says he doesn't want anyone left in the dark. I have been inspired to write because of his classes. He is a kind teacher who inspires the students. take Dr. C! recommend.

Carney is the most encouraging teacher I have ever had! He makes you think and he makes you work hard but he also gives good feedback and encourages you to do better each time in each new assignment. I discovered how much I like writing informally in his class b/cause he has formal and informal essays.

He is really caring. I took his class in 2020 , he gave us 7 informal essay to write. informal are to be at least 700 words. He gave is 3 formal essay that needs to be 1000+ words. Our final essay was 1500-1600 (final was super easy) . The essay are a bit tricky. You learn alot of good things. His lectures are nothing special so you can sleep.

Dr C is a great guy who really cares about his students. He helped me a lot, but there are many papers. He explains things well and makes the class fun. The syllabus is very detailed and clear.

Loved taking this class and the teachings style of Dr. C and his fairness with grading and policies. I was just hoping to pass and I was so happy I got a B! His directions on the writing prompts assignments were very long reading for each one, but thats ok because he explains all of the requirements that are very detailed.

From reading the comments about him here I was a little bit concern that Dr. C's class would be too hard for me since English is not my first language, but with many assignments and time to revise my essays before due dates I was able to follow prompt directions and get good grades. I especially like the informal assignments! Dr. C is also caring.

I took professor carney for both English and humanities and the only thing is that there is a lot of writing and the classes are time consuming but hes a very good professor and is helpful with his feedback! I wouldnt take him if you want an easy A. Another thing is you have to visit a museum for the midterm and final so be aware of that.

Mr. Carney is one of the most creative professors I have had in college so far. He is also very encouraging and helpful for students who struggle with assignment but not with lazy students who do not do the work. There are group projects and these can be good or bad depending on the group you are in. My group Hadder lazy members who did not work.

Dr. Carney created an atmosphere of learning like no other I've experienced. I feel as if I think differently and learn differently from participating in this course. It is not an easy course if you are unable to think critically about contentious issues, however, if you're highly opinionated like me, essay assignments will be a blast!

Dr. Carney is one of the few professors I have had so far that makes me feel like I am defintely in college because his assignments really make you think and they are very interesting material. Carney is supportive flexible and encouraging and he gives good feedback. I highly recommend him, but he expects you to care about your work.

The class isn't finished yet but I'm doing good i think. Papers have not been the easiest I must say, but he grades fair and gives helpful comments. He has three formal essays and eight informal shorter papers plus midterm, final and online discussions. When he says informal he really means it because grammar isn't counted in them like formal.

Dr. C really cared and wanted to see me succeed in his class. I have always hated English classes in high school and I thought I was terrible at writing, but part of it was not liking the subjects I wrote about. I like Dr. Cs assignments a lot! Usually took 2-3 weeks to get big papers back.

I loved Dr. Cs class because he encourages students to think freely and openly. He doesnt give his opinions about topics, just gives the topics, because he wants us to think hard about the them and form our conclusions. It was nice because I felt like I wrote about things I care about.

My only reason for scoring a four star instead of 5 is that I am receiving a B and really wanted an A. You will work for your grade but Dr. Carney helps you out a lot and explains things really well. This is not an easy A but I think a B in his class is worth something.

Taking Carney choice for me. His assignments were fun and not too hard and he grades fair. Always got back to my emails in a timely way. I felt like he truly cared about my success in his class and as a student overall.

Mr. Cs class was my favorite so far. I learned alot about writing and critical thinking or free thinking he called it. Wrote about some cool topics.

I would definitely take Professor Carney again for English. I love the way he can keep his class entertaining with his personality. He gives credit where credit is due and gives extra credit if you are exceptional in the assignments. It was a more than excellent class, and it greatly affected the progress of my English language skills in writing and reading and helped me progress significantly in the rest of the classes. Dr. Carney is one of the best professors I have met in my academic life. He takes kind care of students and responds quickly to any inquiries.

Dr. C is the best English professor, he truly cares about students' success. He gives many interesting topics, & allows you to "free-think" as he calls it. Responds on time & is clear w/ instructions regarding assignments. Beware of group projects & lots of reading! It's not an easy class, you will work for your grade. Would definitely take again!

It's a summer class and very short time to get alot of work done but that is summer school and I knew that going into it. I should have probably taken this class in the regular semester with more time, but Dr. C is a great professor, understanding, fair grader, and assignments are interesting.I would definitely take his class again.

I took Intro to Humanities (online). Professor Carney not only supported and cared but also encouraged and inspired us. Regardless from grade his course broaden my horizon.

Prof. Carney's HUMA class is my most difficult class ever. There is an informal essay due every week (meaning he doesn't grade grammar/spelling, just the content), and there is one Formal essay that has to be about 7pgs long. I had to work my butt off to submit quality work, which forced me to improve my writing. This class made my writing better.

There is an informal assignment every week, but it is not difficult as long as you use your time correctly. He uses a lot of writing and description when he posts assignments, but this is to ensure that all details are clear since the class is online. Overall, I enjoyed this class, the freedom in it, and the knowledge I obtained.

Dr.Carney was amazing for humanities. He gave very clear and detailed instructions on how to pass this class. The writing assignments took time to complete, but if you follow exactly what he says to do you will get a good grade, and even maybe extra credit! I took his online summer course, and I loved it! He also emails back very quickly.

THOUSAND PERCENT RECOMMEND! He cares about his students! There are not a lot of assignments in his class, and he gives you free rein on some of the essays, but even though there are not a ton of assignments, make sure what you do turn in is well prepared, thought out, and edited, and you will pass!

Dr. C is part of the reason I am going to finish my Associates degree! I loved his class, even though I really thought I hated English and have not done so well in other English classes in the past. He made it fun and very interesting, but also challenging in a good way by his high standards and helping us think out of the box. He was helpful too

Prof. Carney is inspirational. The workload is a lot, but with time management, it is worth it. You gain knowledge in areas where you may not previously considered. You adopt a growth mindset, with the ability to see and analyze things critically especially when he introduces DSRP which is useful even outside of the class. Kudos to Prof. Carney!

This class was incredibly easy, we did a lot of writing which is expected of an English class but honestly it was super simple and straight forward. I believe the entire class passed with A's or B's and we had minimal issues. He's an easy grader and all you have to do is do the work and follow instructions. He does try to answer emails for everyone

Follow the criteria that professor took extra time to clarify. Also quick tip, if you are not feeling the subject at the time, wait, and then come back so your essays are passionate and follow the requirements. Simple. Have a good day

Professor Carney is one the best professors I have had at HCC. I took his class in summer, and it was not easy at all. Because it was summer, we had a LOT of writing, but in a regular semester it'd have been easy. He would respond to emails immediately and is very fair. This teacher is strict but very direct! The assignments are honestly one of my favorites, really depth and detailed. Though that being said: time management and discipline can get you through this course! Be attentive to the syllabus and due dates!

Dr.C is my favorite professor at HCC. His assignments are interesting and challenging. Students must put the work in and follow the directions carefully or there is big point loss. If you are not prepared to work or be a college student , do not take this class. To me it was worth it because I learned so much and grew as a writer. Highly recommend

Dr. Carney was a great way to get introduced to college for my first semester here at HCC. I didn't think I was going to like English and I never liked English class before this but Dr. C made it interesting. He's fair and he tells you what he expects.
