Great class, fairly easy but at the same time you learn a lot. Very clear lectures that are supplemented by PowerPoint. I would recommend him for any class he teaches.
Super cool professor, would take him again. Essays were easy if you followed lecture. Nice guy and very knowledgeable about the stuff. Would recommend.
One of the best history classes I have ever had. I know why he is the department chair!
Had him a few years back -- he was laid back. Excellent professor to boot. If you go to class and pay attention, an A should not be too difficult.
Go to class and listen to lectures and you will do well. Also, final is optional if you do well on two first exams. Standard 8-10 page paper on topic of your choice. Very interesting and informative.
He is very nice and easy going. You can't help but love him.
A very pleasant Professor, I enjoyed this class tremendously. There are short assignments that go along with the readings, and a group paper at the end. No final, and interesting field trips to such places as SAMCC, and the State Library.
What to say except simply the best. He really is and he is a very pleasant person who gives a very reasonable workload. However, since he is department chair, he does not teach a lot so take him when you see his name in course schedule
good prof. all lectures are on a slideshow online, very linient gives 2 extra credit papers, very nice and approachable will help you out, lets you take a note of papers for final
He is a super boring lecturer but the subject matter is interesting. He's also a really easy grader. If you do the reading and study for the exams, it should be an easy A.
Very good professor. Uses powerpoint. Just take notes on powerpoint and review it before a test and guarantee B or A. 2 papers choose 1, the other will be extra credit.
loved this class! he is interesting and its not hard at all.i never even used the book! 3 tests, 1 paper, extra credit and overall just a manageable class that i highly reccomend
Great class! Only 3 test, and 1 book review ( only 2pages doule space). He offers 2 extra credit papers that are really easy. If you have a question ask cause he will answer his email within 24 hours. He posts the lectures on powerpoint on sac ct, but there are a few slides he just posts pictures so you need to go to class to know what they are..
This professor was very clear! 3 test and 1 paper not bad at at all. All you have to do is study your notes and online slides for every test.
Speaks very clear, 3 exams which are multiple choice and allows 1 page of notes front and back. take the adjunt section and you will get an A. extra credit offered up to 5% or grade.
We had a TA in the class, who was there to make it easier. But at the end of the day made it more difficult to approach Dr. Castaneda. Papers had no prompt and were docked letter grades if not formatted correctly. Exams were easy, had a note page. A person should be able to get a least a B on the exam from listening to the lecture.
Very straightforward class. 1st exam has 60 questions (multiple choice), 2nd exam has 100 (fill in the blank), Final Exam (Comprehensive) 100 questions (fill in the blank and multiple choice). book review 2 pages. Take the adjunct if you can it will really help you! His class is easy just take notes and skim the book. STUDY HARD and YOU WILL PASS
I am not a history person at all, i hate history. This professor knows his stuff, take notes they are on ppt. 3 exams, all multiple choice. No essays require on exams. All u have to do is turn in one book report for the whole semester, no biggy. You are good as long as you take notes and attend class.
If history and reading is not your thing, then I suggest you manage your time wisely studying over the study guides he offers. They are extremely helpful. Getting an A is possible, but do the extra book review! Lectures were generally long and boring but do attend class, as there would be unexpected assignments for attending class.
This class was the best class I've had all year. This professor was very laid back, and his teaching made it fun for me to learn history, and i hated History before this class! Attend class and you'll pass the class, if you don't you'll have no idea what the terms on the study guide are and it'll make it a lot harder to study the 100+ terms.
Prof. Castaneda's class is a little on the boring side, but not too difficult. 3 tests, all terms come from the study guide. Not much studying needed. One 2 page book review, and offers two other papers for up to a total of 5% extra credit. Also uses a slight curve.
Don't need the textbook at all.. Class was hella boring. it seemed lyk an eternity! Go to class to write the notes..it's best to go back & highlight the terms 4 the exams. Exams were in the format of a story or like an essay.. u just fill in the blank w/ multiple choice
Take him if you can! He's very organized and offers up to 5% extra credit. Exams are 100 fill in the blank which are a piece of cake if you attend class.
Professor is great. His class is not difficult to pass unless if you do not study. I didn't go good on his first exam but after that I did better because I did his study guides and went to his office hours and asked questions. Basically, go to class, take down notes, do your study guide, and you will pass the class. Offers extra credit too.
Super easy class! Just do the study guides and you'll do great on the exams! Easy A. Offers extra credit as well
Very easy course. His lectures can get long and sometimes boring but he makes it easier for you to understand the concepts
Grade breakdown are as follows: 2 midterm each 25% of your grade, final is 35%, and book review is 15%. Book review is basically free points, I winged it 2 nights before and got a B. For the final you get to supply yourself with 1pg of HANDWRITTEN notes. His exams are pretty interesting; it's like a story with fill in the blank multiple choice.
made History real interesting. He knows what he's talking about and he's a real nice guy. 2 exams and a final. there's a study guide that have all the terms on the exam. If you're good at memorize it will be a walk in the park. lots of extra credit offer. you don't really need book. He does a great job explaining everything on test :)
The most nicest and easiest professor. TAKE HIM! he helps you a lot during test gives out study guides which are basically make up the whole test and plus let you use a cheat sheet. didn't really use the book that often only if you wanted to read the Chp. but honestly i didn't read it and i justed went off the lecture and passed.
His lectured can get a little boring, but he sometimes tries to make them fun. We had 3 exams and he let us use a cheat sheet on two of them, and he also gives a few extra credit opportunities. I would highly recommend.
The teacher posts the power point notes online. You have two alternatives for exams, test or multiple choice exam. Multi-choice is written as an essay and then there are blanks and you select the multi-choice option actually pretty nice. He let us use a page of notes for 23 exams! One page book report. Super easy and I am terrible at history
He is a really nice guy. Explains things well, has a bit of a monotone voice but history is already boring anyways. He is super laid back and chill. There are 3 test and he lets you bring in a page full of notes front and to use on the exams
Didn't take attendance. Boring Lectures! I stopped showing up to class & only came for the tests. He lets you use cheat sheets. 1 book review & 2 more for Xcredit. He would sometimes try to crack a joke, but no one laughs lol. Super easy class
Dr. Castaenda made me love history. I dont know why people say he is monotone, he is probably the nicest professor I have across through out my years at sac state. Just google the terms on the studyguide for 5 hours, and like know what the term mean or who the people are in general, and go take the test, get A. Never went to class, got A.
He is a nice professor. I stopped listening to his lectures after the first week. I just go over the list of terms that is going to be on the test. The test was multiple choose. I feel like the test could be confusing if you don't know the correct term. Don't need to go to class or take notes.
Professor Castaneda was cool. His lectures are kind of long and he goes through his notes pretty fast. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is recommended. There is a book report during the course and extra credit is available. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class and study. Easy class, cool professor, would recommend.
Favorite professor at Sac State. Lectures are interesting, relitively easy grader, very clear cut on instructions and due dates, always gives a study guide.
Sometimes his lectures were boring but he enjoys the topic! The assignments were simple. His tests have material that is RELEVANT! You really get to show him you learned something when you do take his tests. His powerpoints are not as clear so I definitely recommend listening to his lectures in class.
Really good professor. He teaches in a monotone voice which makes his lectures really boring. Easy grader easy class :)
Really nice and knowledgeable professor. Lectures are easy to understand. Laid back professor and easy tests. Must do the online textbook practices to have a good grade, but they are easy. Gives lots of time to do the work. Easy class and enjoyable. He lets you use a page of notes for tests. He cares and wants you to pass. Highly recommend him.
Nice guy LOVES the subject which kind of gets you interested. What you need to know for the tests comes straight from his slides. He sometimes points out funny things in history which can get the sleepy kids back. Love this guy, man. If you PAY ATTENTION, you'll pass. Don't need to take notes it's online.
Goofy and sometimes funny professor, only three exams and he let us use front and back cheat sheets for two of them, including the final. Must do the smart book readings online, or you won't pass. He also assigns easy online 3-4 paragraph essays at least four times throughout the semester. I rarely showed up to class and still passed.
Although history is not my most favorable subject, professor castaneda made it quite interesting. From time to time he cracks gooofy jokes. I love history a lot more because of him. As for workload, there is HW online which is essential to passing, its tedious but needed. Also do all your essays and study for midterms and the final!
This professor made me change my aspect of history. When I signed up for his course I was so-so about history & thanks to him I now seem to be interested in it. Textbook online, must do chapter questions, 2 exams & final. Some essays. If you could sign up for the 1 unit course he offers with his TA totally worth it! Helped me when it came to study
He's a really good professor. I got an A for the class, it wasn't hard you just have to study for the tests because it's a lot of info to know. Make sure to do the short assignments he assigns and the reading online. Also, if you can sign up for the TA class for extra help do it! It's SO helpful and you get an extra unit
Prof. Castaneda was an excellent teacher. DEFINITELY recommend him for 17B! He lets you have have a full page of notes for the exam, and passed each one with flying colors (including final). He has weekly learnsmart, and sometimes he does random in class assignments to ensure attendance, but i missed a few and still ended with a 96% in the class.
Awesome professor. He's funny and the lectures are super easy to understand. If you didn't take notes fast enough, that's okay because he uploads the notes online. But make sure to study for tests which is usually on 80 to 90 key terms. there are also extra credit. the reading and text book is online, super easy quizzes (I'm not good with quizzes)
I took this course because it was still open and fit well into my sched (even though I'm not into history). Professor Castaneda makes me wish I needed to take history classes! He is the kindest professor I've ever had. He knows a ton about history and somehow makes it interesting. Take one of his classes- you won't regret it!
My biggest advice would be to study the hardest for the first test. Since there's no cheat sheet for the 1st one, it is the toughest. The tests are based entirely off of the terms on study guide, so it would be wise to study those. Other than that, the other tests are easy to Ace. No Hw, other than 4 essays the whole sem. Easy ebook practice online
One of the best teachers I had this semester. Book is online and take a quiz for every chapter. You can't fail the quizzes because it is open book. Very understanding and an easy A. I recommend this teacher!
Prof. Castaneda was a pretty good professor, not very exciting, but not horrible. Study really hard for the first exam because you can't use a note sheet, but for the last two you can. The online textbook has practice quizzes that are mandatory and due by the exam date. There are a few essays but they weren't hard. Pay attention to his lectures
Attendance isn't mandatory for his class and he uploads the lecture online but it's still helpful to show up to class, especially the class day before a test. He usually tells you which terms on the study guide are on or not on the test. You're able to use a cheat sheet for the last 2 tests but not the first so study for that one!!!
Great Professor. I love how he lectures, really easy to understand and makes history super fun and interesting, class always flew by. Six short essay questions throughout the semester, only of which four are mandatory and the other two are extra credit! I would recommend taking the SI class with this, super helpful!
Professor Castaneda was a very nice guy. His class is pretty straight forward and honestly an easy A. There's six short essays four are mandatory, and two are for extra credit. We also had to do smart chapters online but they're fairly easy since we get unlimited tries. Overall, his class is a bit boring but very easy.
This class is extremely easy. 3 exams solely based on terms, 2 of them u get a cheat sheet front to back. I stopped showing up to class after the first two exams because everything is online & you get the cheat sheets so there's really no point on going to class. If your looking for an easy A this is your class!
Absoute Homie! One of the best Professors at Sac State.
Best professor at sac state easily. 2 exams and a final. Only have to study for the first one because the last two you get a whole front and back page cheat sheet. Test is straight off the study guide. Take him for hist 17b, you'll thank me later. You don't really have to show up to class but i enjoyed his lectures and he offers extra credit.
Fantastic class. 10/10 would take again, he's funny and his SI is super helpful. Easily a great professor at sac state. the class is not hard at all, just pay attention and you'll understand everything. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Funny guy - easy class. Good amount of homework but its not hard.
Easy A. Good professor. He is funny and passionate about what he teaches.
Great professor. Takes his time, doesn't rush through any material. History classes are usually boring, but this one was not. The lectures actually made me want to learn more about history. Attendance is not mandatory. Although, he gives a few extra credit points out on some days for being there.
Castaneda is such a nice and chill professor. I definitely recommend you take him not only because there is no way you will fail but also because it is clear he is passionate about his job. His enthusiasm towards history is evident and is quite contagious, makes history bearable.
Lectures are long, but he isn't too boring. It took me a while to get used to his voice. Initially, it was lulling me to sleep. Overall, he was funny. This course has a required textbook, but we never used it. Three essays, three exams. All incredibly easy.
Great professor that seems very passionate about his job. Chill and funny. Lectures seem long, but bearable. The midterms and final were very easy. Overall enjoyed my time in this class.
Professor Castenada is an amazing Professor, gives great lectures (can get boring at times, but bearable.) Gives 2 exams and one final (you get a cheat sheet on the second exam and final) You have to do 3 short essays . Overall an easy and interesting class.
3 essays, 3 exams, and participation points make up your grade. Two of the exams we were allowed to use a "cheat sheet" which was fairly helpful and making them helped me study better. Attendance not mandatory but do try to show up because there are in class assignments at times randomly.
Three exams and three short papers. Interesting lectures. If you attend lectures and take notes youll pass tests. The tests are a long passage that he wrote with fill in the blanks. The blanks are multiple choice too. Its not too hard
Out of all the professors I had taken, this guy has the most Jesus character I've seen... In other words, he's extremely kind. HIST136, expect 4 essays. No homework, lectures were good, he's easy-going on the grading. Overall the class was not hard to pass. Will need the books for the essays but can get away without reading cover to cover.
Prof. Castaneda's class is lecture heavy and does get boring, but most of the time it's very interesting. He gives a midterm and a final, both multiple choice and very easy; take notes and study. There is 2 sort essays which are easy! Take the ALS class if you're able to, its VERY helpful. He's nice and loves to take advice to make the class better
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS CLASS!!! This class was asynchronous, so all of his lectures are videos, he has fair exams and reflects the content in his lectures, overall if I had to take another history class I would hope I could have him as my professor.
Castaneda was an awesome professor. All lecture with 3 exams and 2-3 short assignments, so you have to be self disciplined enough to come to class and take notes. He cracks jokes and makes the lectures fairly interesting. If you study, he makes an A incredibly attainable. Also took the ALS course with it which was sooo helpful.
Professor Castaneda was approachable, transparent, and passionate. He is so kind and you will really enjoy this class. Straightforward in what he expects for the class, but it always available if you have any questions. I highly recommend him!!
Easy Professor, It's just up to the student to watch all the recorded lectures, read, and take notes (All online Asynchronous). Understanding if you have any questions. This class teaches self discipline so if you have it, this is an easy A.
The class is asynchronous, but he posts lectures at the same time/day every week which helped with planning my schedule. There's a lot of reading required, but he basically covers everything in his lectures. If you can manage your time and take good notes then the exams and assignments with be easy.
No discussion posts or essays. We have about 1-2 quizzes a week which are all based of lectures. Quizzes are pretty easy actually if you watch lectures. Quizzes are about 8-10 questions for 75 mins! Highly recommend if youre looking for something easy
Asynchronous class. 3 exams (2 midterms and a semi-comprehensive final). 17 open book chapter quizzes. 6 one-word flash responses. 3 brief essays in total. No discussion posts. Lectures are posted weekly. Taking notes would be helpful in exams.
Super smart, great lecturer, really nice to students and really easy A. You'll learn a lot without ever having to stress. Took two of his classes, nothing but good things to say about him.
Absolutely amazing Professor, even though our class was online he always suggested to visit office hours to get to know his students. His lectures were very interesting, and he was very kind overall. If you do your work this class is an easy A.
If you love yourself, let Professor Castaneda be your professor!!!! He's so amazing and kind. Do yourself a favour and watch the lectures and take notes too if you wanna pass, they are actually interesting. There's 3 easy peasy exams. Weekly assignments that are on quizlet and like 2-3 150 word essays. I could take this class over and over again.
GREAT professor! If you forget to take an assignment and it closes email him, and he will open it for you to complete. He sends reminders when we have an exam soon. Homework is straightforward, all the homework was on the McGraw Hill page, all are optional choices, and essays are short of 100 words. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Had my very first semester at CSUS this spring. I was honestly nervous and a bit scared of the heavy workload and expectations when transitioning to an upper-division university. Dr. Castaneda is perhaps one of the most polite, caring, and easygoing professors I have ever met. He really made me feel welcome in his course.
I loved his lectures. we had about 20 RLQs and only had to do 10! exams were about 4-5 MC questions and 2 500 word essays. Final paper consisted of writing a historical group or figure during the Spanish civil war!
The best professor, I asked him if I could get some extra time on the exams and he give it to me also he is very nice, caring, and understandable so if you have any question reach out he will help. His class is straight forward and very easy 100% recommend!!!
His class is easy to take. You will have to study the textbook available online since it involves quizzes (very easy quizzes), and you will have to attend class to do well on exams. The assignments are very easy to do, and he will remind you often about the assignments. There are only 3 exams, which are very accurate to the lectures.
Professor Castaneda is an awesome professor! I really enjoyed taking his US History class it is simple and easy to pass. He is very nice and amazing at teaching history. His class lectures are very organized just make sure to take good notes over the content. Homework is very light with short answer response questions and the exams are open note.
Don't need to go class, but the lectures are super good and Prof. Chris explains everything super well. Homework comes in bulks of like 6 assignments every month which are super easy. Couple exams and a final. There are a bit older recordings of the lectures but still the exact same information and slideshows. Recommend this Prof!!!!
Great professor, very easy. You have some readings but you get a lot of time to do them. Three exams but all online very doable. Class is not required but the lectures are better in person so you can ask questions.
Dr. Castaneda's HIST181 class seemed really difficult because of the readings. Because the concept of anarchism is such a complex topic, he doesn't require you to understand each topic perfectly. As long you can understand the general concepts, you will do great in this course.
Professor Castaneda is a great and cool professor! I really enjoyed taking his class over the Spanish Civil War this semester. Class material and lectures were organized and very simple in criteria. Homework is very flexible and Exams are graded on essay questions from lecture notes and readings in class. Wonderful class! Wonderful Professor!
My favorite professor ever. Attendance was not mandatory bc he posts his old zoom lectures, but I still attended bc lectures were very interesting. The exams and short essays were fairly easy and graded within a few days. The professor is very nice and passionate about the subject. Highly recommend!
Kind of soft-spoken but is a good teacher overall. Gives detailed information during the lectures and shows videos in class.
I highly recommend taking this professor if you want to pass History 17B!
Mr.Castaneda Is very nice and caring teacher who really is passionate on the subject. He's a very laid back teacher, that gives out pretty easy assignments and has exams every now and then but can be taken at home
I took his online class and really enjoyed it. Only one exam, no essays and weekly multiple choice quizzes + discussion questions. The material was pretty interesting, so it made the quizzes and discussions easy. He gives really great feedback and I can tell from his comments and lectures that he wants his students to pass. I would take him again!
Professor Castaneda is a fantastic instructor. His lectures are engaging, and he's always willing to help. With the support of unstuckstudy and a little effort, this class is an easy A. Definitely recommend!
easiest class ever and prof is so sweet. everything is online so if you skip its okay. overall, super easy class and not hard to pass at all.
Great professor and genuinely caring he definitely wants you to pass. Everything is online, including exams (which you can take at home) and homework. There were 3 short essays with a minimum of 150 words each. Try to stay for the full lecture because sometimes there are in-class assignments are super easy and mostly just for attendance. Take him
