great! he's interesting and shares personal stories, which is always cool. he seemed to know his stuff and was only inappropriate once or twice :) overall: good guy, good teacher. he understands people's situations and is willing to work with you.
A nice guy, pretty good teacher
good teacher, good guy.
Good guy with a wonderful sense of humor. Mostly, I think he just wants students to participate and to contribute, to think and to open their minds.
awesome
He was good teacher, easy B.
great teacher, cool guy, got an A.
Very energetic, willing to work with students whenever possible.
Very helpful and forgiving in grading when effort is shown. Very energetic and easy to listen to. Note taking can be hard (skips around sometimes), but materials for tests are very clear.
Great teacher. I took this class with someone else and hated so I dropped out. When I took it with Collins it was my favorite class. Every class was great, really interesting discussions, gets the class totally involved. Super teacher. He gets an A
Great teacher.. he makes sure you understand the material. I wonder if anyone ever failed his class cause it doesn't seem like it. The course was relatively easy itself.. but he makes it much more easier and interesting. overall, great teacher

very very very nice teacher. Yea, he's an easy grader. Doesn't assign much hw either. He's very helpful. If you don't understand something, speak up. He'll make sure you understand it before you leave class. He tells you what will be on the test so no way you can fail. Great teacher.
strongly recomand to take his class... great teacher, easy grader, helpful professor... I didn't like Phil. before taking his class... but, now i do really enjoy in his class..
imagine taking philosophy of religion in summer school. well i did, and he made the time fly by in that 2 and a half hour class! Collins is awesome :o) Take him! The readings might seem intimidating at first but he reviews them and makes them easy to understand.
I had him for a few classes. Really, really nice guy. Its the only class where I looked forward to lecture because he made things interesting and also funny. He is a big Orioles fan too! :)
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He will make sure you understand everything before you leave. Very very nice and approachable. Tells you EXACTLY what will be on every test, including the final. There is very little homework. Made class really fun. He does have a problem remembering to return tests. Make sure you have him at least once!
He makes lame jokes and likes to talk about himself in class. If you want to learn about him than take his class.
Wow, I can't believe someone gave Collins a negative review. Someone from my class, even. He's a really nice guy, and yeah, he talks about his life to explain certain concepts, or to break the silence a bit. He made religion a lot more interesting than it could have been. If you want some prof. that reads out of the book, this one is not for you.
He is hilarious, and he makes class very interesting. However,i do have one caveat: he oversimplifies everything and he does not challenge the students vocabulary-wise. I know most students will regard this as a plus, but I like my professors to challenge me.
Had him for both 203 and 190. Got an A in both. He's my favorite prof and I totally recommend him! He's very engaging and informative. You can also approach him outside class with no problems.
He was an awesome teacher and I would take any of his classes again. Too bad he's not teaching any evening classes this semester (spring 09...)
He's a fun teacher and the class is such an easy A. The textbook was useless though because we only used it for one or two homeworks. Altough he was funny and what not, I felt as if I didn't learn much from him. Take him if you want to get your Humanities completed with ease.
I enjoyed this class soooo much!! He is loads of fun and he's extremely creative/clear when he teaches the material. He enjoys listening to students and always has fun stories to tell about his personal life. I would not say this class is easy but neither is it hard. If you don't take his class then you're a fool. Seriously, take him!! :D
Do not take this professor! He does not respond to email; has no course syllabus; your final grade is not based upon any metric, but just what he decides.
Really cool guy and makes class very interesting.
Yuck. Really loosy-goosey style - you get the feeling he never looked online at the discussions at all. (This was an online class). No syllabus. No standards for grading. Would not grade papers in a timely fashion. Sloppy exams (questions repeated several time, verbatim). I will never take a class with this prof again.
This is the most bizarre instructor ever! He has no syllabus; no grading policy; and many students are failing his online class. Your grade is totally arbitrary depending upon criteria no one except Collins Knows. Take this professor at your own peril! Read the most recent reviews about him. He never answers emails, ever! No one can contact him
As others have written, this instructor is terrible! He has no syllabus; no writen grading policy; and no way to communicate with him. This was an online class. He does not answer emails or online posts. He does not return papers or exams, so you never know how you are doing in the class until the end, when he issues the final grade. ???
It is irresponsible of Montgomery College and the Department he works for to allow him to teach this way. MC should lose its accreditation from Middle States. The Philosophy Department should ensure that instructors such as this have a syllabus; grading policy; etc. MC has no teacher evaluation mechanism, so Collins continues to teach and harm.
This was a distance learning course. As others have written, Collins cannot be contacted via email, etc. If Collins does not agree with your religious beliefs, racial background, societal views, etc. - then, because he has no syllabus/grading policy, he finds ways to give you a low or failing grade. This is discrimination, but MC is allows it.
This is a very bad instructor for reasons others have written. I wish I had read the most recent reviews before I took his class. Now, I am having to retake the course at Howard Community College. If you want to roll the dice, then take this guy; but most likely, you will regret it and end up repeating the course at another school. Good luck!
I'm reading these malicious comments and am truly shocked. I had an AWESOME time in his religion class. I appreciate the lack of pressure by not having a syllabus and I really like that he always has a sense of humor. It's a hard class only because you can't bs your way through it. That's a good thing though! I would take any of his classes.
Thas was a distance learning (online) class. As others have written,Collins does not respond to emails and he cannot otherwise be contacted. He uses the fact that he does not have a syllabus to discriminate based upon religious beliefs, societal views, etc. This is discrimination in education, but MC allows it to occur.Need to file academic appeal, sue
Hi, I'm also a survivor of this distance learning class. Like others said, the professor was almost absent the whole semester, and had no syllabus. But in the end he graded very generously, everyone who did homework got an easy A. Also, he explained to everyone that he had family emergency this semester. So why not let's give him a break?
Taking this teacher's class (apart from distance learning, I guess) will guarantee you a B at least. He makes notes very clear, explains exactly what will be on tests, & homework is light. Despite other commenters' claims, he is not funny. He tries to be, but his humor is primitive and falls flat most of the time.
easy grader. I didnt turn in any hw and turned my projects late but still got an a. he does not return exams, but it does not matter because everyone gets A or B. He will tell a lot of things about his personal life, sometimes to the point of emberssment. He will tell many personal things, but he will never admit that he is smoking....
I don't understand how anyone with their mind set on having a fun learning experience couldn't find him and his class interesting. I have nothing negative to say about his teaching style as his explanations and comparisons are always crystal clear. Most fun class I've taken at the college
pros very nice, keeps class interesting, answers all questions. neg he does not return tests, don't bother emailing to contact just wait till next class to ask, tests can be tricky (study the latin terminology of all terms). overall i recommend. he does his job and teaches philosophy.
Take him if he is teaching, probably the best professor at the college, great teacher and an even better grader.
ETHICS - DISTANCE LEARNING - AVOID AVOID AVOID. got a B though . nominal teacher comments. Has obvious prejudice which is exhibited in online you-tube assignment. Quite the oxymoron for an Ethics class
Took this professor online. He was very responsive to my emails. His lesson plans and expectations were very clear. Easy grader. Just do your homework (answering about 10 questions after each chapter), post AND repond to the discussion board, take the midterm and the final and give him a well written final paper and you will surely pass. Good Prof
Professor Collins is a genius. Pure and simple.
Amazing instructor, A is all his classes (PL 101, PL190)~ highly recommended. Should you think otherwise, then you ought to question your own person ability to succeed.LAZY students should not blame the professors for their own inability to succeed in school.
Prof collins is the reason I am an overall better human being. His class is life-changing. I would pay money to take his class again and to hear his witty jokes
I took the Ethics Course During the summer. The Course was fairly easy. You have to do certain amount of readings each week and answer the 10 questions at the end. There is a midterm and final..There is One essay. The professor was responsive to my emails. He also had a syllabus and posted the assigned works every week.If you do your work, Easy A...
Proffers sour Collins exactly knows his stuff he is really knowledgeable he knows exactly what he does .his grading policy is clear & lazy students should not blame him for their poor performance.just do all questions to be posted every week, respond to discussion, work hard so that you will succeed but if you are not well prepared you loose.
So he does not respond to emails, or at least only responds to a select few students. Other students have sent out emails stating they got responses and others said they did not. It is like there is no professor at all. Take this course if you like to read and if you know what your doing already. He does not even post grades for weeks.
Barely answers emails. Very disengaged. Doesn't offer feedback. Weeks go by with no grades. Online class disorganized. Does not give a schedule of due dates - he claims he doesn't like schedules. Gets dates wrong like says exam on Mon when he means Tues. If any of these things bother you, then avoid this prof. He will drive you mad.
Great!
This is my first semester at MC, and this is by far my favorite teacher. He has a great personality, very nice and funny. The course material was difficult, although he is very patient and makes sure you understand.
I have taken multiple online courses at MC and he is the best professor you can take. Through out the whole semester, you have 7 hw from textbook with discussion each week, mid term and final exam. Mid-term was harder than finals. As long as you do your homework and submit it on time, you will easily achieve A in his class.
Professor Collins is a very good teacher. He is pretty clear with how he grades things. He is very nice and one time he accepted extra assignments from chapters that I did by mistake as extra credit. He wants his students to do the best they can and have the best opportunity to succeed in his class. I highly recommend him.
One of the best professors I've had. Always makes class very entertaining. Makes himself very approachable and personable. Has great, informative lectures and easy work if you pay enough attention. Super funny, chill guy. Highly recommend taking ANY class he offers, you will have some yucks while learning a good bit. 5/5 would have beer with him
This was an online class. Material taught is all over the place. Final exams questions do not make any sense. Weekly homework was pretty easy, but I just can't figure out the purpose of this class.
Phil 101 is the only class I've ever taken at Rockville MC. Living in Clarksburg, it's quit the distance away. Nonetheless, I looked forward to going to Professor Collins class every week. I've never had a professor who tried so hard to get the class to participate as one unit and be as successful as he was at doing so. Youll get what you put in.
This professors rating should be way higher! Hes funny and lenient. His class is never dull. He literally gives you the questions to the tests (but you got to find the answers). Only two exams and all other assignments are easy. This was an Easy A and you'll learn to gain perspective on different issues.
Absolute favorite! He's able to make any philosophy topic interesting and easy to understand. There are basically no tests (except for finals) and even those he makes extremely easy. The final papers I have written for him (I took more than one class with him) are based loosely on the material but are mainly free choice which makes them easy & fun
Best professor ever.
Pretty much no homework. Lectures were kind of boring and unorganized. I missed a lot of class and still passed. On the exam review days he gives you the questions on the exam, then you go home and study them. Exams were super easy. Only one big grade besides exams which was a 5 page paper, which was easy. Loved him. TAKE HIM
used free online textbooks which was a huge plus! did not have to participate in the online discussions, accepted late assignments, and was an easy grader.
This class was amazing! Professor Collins is able to turn boring philosophy concepts into interesting class discussions. There aren't many grades, mostly group work, and a few small homework assignments. The class, in general, was very interesting, but Professor Collins was able to make it even more interesting.
Professor Christopher Collins is amazing. He is very kind. Professor answer my email after 5 minutes. Take this class if you want to pass, trust me.
I admire Prof Collins incredibly. I thought that he was by far the kindest, quirkiest, most flexible and honest professor I have ever had. He is a really warm person. He graciously accommodates to his students and works for their benefit, seriously. Oh, and he responds to emails very quickly: usually the day of. I would encourage anyone to TAKE HIM
I really liked Prof. Collins. Down to earth, knowledgable, accessible. All of the assignments were interesting. It was an introductory course so it was pretty basic, but I feel like he did a great job of relaying the info to the students.
He's an amazing teacher, he gives good feedback and will respond to any questions within the same day. Took his online class, didnt need a book cause he provided an online one. It was a lot of reading. Test and homeworks were all like essays/short answers. As long as you do the reading and backup details to your philosophy than its an easy A.
Easy A, if you follow his instructions and keep up with the assignments. He is awesome, respectful and very laid back. Text book is free online, and his test are very easy.
Can't emphasize enough how easy this class is, and what a great teacher Professor Collins is. By no means am I a dedicated student, but I genuinely looked forward to going to class every day I had Professor Collins. Amazing teacher for an especially interesting course.
He is a funny man. All you really have to do for this class is pay attention and do some work. For the mid term he basically told us what was going to be on the test so it was easy to pass. Easy class to take.
PL143 and PL101 online class. Easy class no textbooks, readings are online. Professors office hours are available when needed clarifications. He's very clear in what he wants from the class. Prompt at responding back to emails. Test are short essays which isn't too difficult. Midterm and final is same as test plus an essay.
Professor Collins is an amazing teacher to take. He is really chill on turning in your assignments because he knows that we have other priorities. As long as you participate in the weekly discussions and do your assignments, you should be fine!
He's great for an online class. Weekly reading (short) and powerpoints to read. Answer questions on blackboard and possibly participate in a discussion, doesn't care about replies. Easily accessible if needed by email and will give extensions because he states "he understands that life happens".
very nice professor, esay a
Not a nice guy, at least in my experience. He's forgetful and takes forever to grade assignments. Also, he doesn't always understand the material he teaches. I truly would not recommend him if you're looking for a class taught by a teacher who knows their subject well.
I recommend any of his classes.
Great professor. He makes the material interesting and doesn't drown you with unnecessary homework/reading. A lot of work in class will be done in groups. Classmates can determine how much fun this is. Exams are extremely straightforward. He's very quick to respond to emails.
Very responsive to emails and questions . Best professor I have taken hands down Would recommend him for anyone. Very generous when grading
Short readings, nice discussions, isn't nitpicky with students. Pretty easy A so far. Very glad I chose this class (accelerated online). Free textbook and there is one weekly assignment (short written response using the weekly topics/ideas).
Took Prof Collins for a PHIL 140 (Winter class online/3weeks) and it was the easiest thing I've ever done. Online textbook is provided, you just read and answer question (mainly just your opinions). Respond and reply to others on the discussions and the midterm/final exam was super easy, you answer the questions based on your opinions. Easy A
He is very good in his lectures, he explain everything very smoothly. He give a review every-time there is a test, so no surprises. He gives very manageable amount of homework. I do not like philosophy but he actually made me enjoy it.
Dr. Collins was a pretty good professor. I took his online PHIL140 course, and he was very responsive to emails and really cared about his students. He was not a strict grader, and as long as you made the effort to do your best you would get a good grade. It is very easy to get an A in his class if you do your part!
Professor Collins made this summer semester philosophy class the highlight of my covid plagued summer. He assigns homework with prompts that really get you to view relevant issues in a philosophical stance. He implores you to dig deeper in your mind to unveil your own truths. I really enjoyed the way this class challenged me to be open minded.
The guy is a real gem. I took his class during Summer 1 of 2020 and it was super easy. He responds to emails quickly and cares for his students.
Awesome professor, let's you learn and be collaborative with other students.
He is literally a god given angel to the earth! Do your work, give your genuine effort, and you shall also pass.
Wonderful teacher! Although we didn't meet due to COVID-19, his summer class was really enjoyable. I highly encourage you to take this class! It is very interesting and allows you to grasp the ideology of philosophy. 10/10
Mr. Collins is such a sweetheart, unlike other professors who don't really care, he sincerely wants to see us do well.
Awesome professor. He loves his job and is really knowledgeable in the field of Philosophy. The class was a walk in the park, as long as you take good notes during his lectures. He gives the questions for each exam, it's just up to you to find the right answers. Highly recommend!
1st online experience & it was with Professor Collins. He's an amazing instructor! The class requires you to think outside of the box and form your own opinions. I learned a lot even though it was all online. Professor Collins was always responding to e-mails & answering questions. Expect: weekly assignments, a paper, midterm, and final. Take him!
I actually took over 5 courses from Professor Collins and I was able to thank him properly for helping me think outside the box. I dropped out of college shortly after taking his amazing courses which opened my eyes in so many new ways. I am now the CMO of a worldwide eCommerce company. One good teacher can make all the difference. Thank you Chris
He is awesome! I had really enjoyed this class. I hope to have him again!
He is one of the best professors you will have the opportunity of taking in you life, so don't pass up on it. He will change you life or impact it in some way or another. He is like John Keating from Dead Poets Society. Besides, Logic is a class that will stay with you for a very long time.
Needed this class for cybersecurity, the easiest A I've ever gotten. Just read the slides, answer the questions and respond to discussion posts. All the ratings about his PHIL 140 class are accurate.
If you have the opportunity to take a class from professor Collins DO IT!! Take notes in his lectures, ask questions, and be active in class discussions and you will do just fine. He is the best professor I have had at MC and his attitude and teaching style made me excited to go to class and learn, I could not have asked for a better experience.
He is a wonderful professor very helpful and when you need help he is here for you and respond your email any time, I really recommend every one to take class with him .
Amazing professor,
I'm taking prof collins for the third time and he is still my favorite professor! his classes are an easy A but that's not why i like him, he's super engaging and teaches you a lot about philosophy in one way or another. and it's super easy to feel comfortable in his class. i highly recommend!
I took PHIL140 as a 7-week distance learning course and it was great. Clear instructions and assignments are due every Sunday. The assignments and discussions mostly had to do with your own opinion. Overall good class and good professor. Would recommend.
Incredible professor, he is the funniest person and does such a great job explaining things. I took the accelerated summer course but still looked forward to coming to class everyday. Not that much work and he gives you the test questions in advance.
super entertaining, he's really funny and connects lectures through storytelling. he makes attempts to personally connect with his students, and it pays off because everyone the mood in his class is always positive. he doesn't want you to have to pay for textbooks and is super chill with assignments/quizzes, overall very nice and accessible.
The classes are very engaging, I enjoy that every class we get pared into groups and get to know the people in class a lot different than the only lecture based classes Im already taking. This class makes me want to continue going and find more classes that are more social like this one.
I had him for a 7 week distance learning class and it was great. Discussions are straightforward, often involving just your opinion. These are due each Sunday which gives you plenty of time to complete them. He is also a pretty easy grader.
W professor
This is the best professor. I had him for the summer online class and he is so understanding. Always responsive when you send him E-mails. He grades assignments so easily that A grades are almost guaranteed. this is because he cares about your thought process and efforts you make
I really enjoyed taking Professor Christopher Collins class. He made class enjoyable and fun to learn. He is caring and understanding. I really appreciate his patience, he takes time out to help his student to make sure they understand the lectures and the assignment.
i honestly wish the class was harder!! one of the few profs that treats an intro 101 class like an intro 101 class.
prof. collins is one of the best professors I had in MC so far! not only he is friendly and funny but he makes the class very interesting!! he makes sure we understand the topic very well.
He's very funny, and allows you to apply what you're learning to real life. Very discussion based classroom, he wants you to participate. Overall, very interesting class.
