Chris was a very helpful math teacher! I really enjoyed going to class & you can easily see that he is a humble and caring professor. I would definitely take another class with him. His writing is a little messy, but I can easily dismiss that because he is a kind soul overall. Textbook isn't needed, but I liked doing questions out of it.
Chris is a really nice guy and prof. He actually makes math bearable! Math 102 is run by him and another prof so some questions on midterms and the final were a little bit trickier than expected but he definitely does a good job of preparing you for them.
Chris is a great Prof. I had him for math 102 and he is great at explaining concepts. I appreciate how thorough he is, some might find this tedious, however it is helpful if you struggle with math. Would definitely take his class again.
To be honest, Im not the best at math and was scared AF to find out that I had to take a calc course at UVIC. But Chris made it bearable and I ended up getting a pretty decent mark. He's hilarious and a genuinely nice guy. Chris is always happy to clarify concepts and doesn't make you feel stupid. Definitely take his class if you can!
Possibly the best prof/teacher that I've ever had. Lectures are entertaining and informative, he is great at answering questions. This class was so good, it even got me out of bed on time for an 8:30 lecture. Would highly recommend for anyone, especially if math is not your strongest area. Overall great professor!
Best prof I've ever had. Clear lectures and usable notes. Was able to answer almost every tutorial question using only what I'd written down in class. You will write a lot, but he pauses to accept questions or to make a joke. Gave great feedback and even took a couple marks off a midterm because he felt it was too long. Amazing guy!
He's great! Made a very difficult class seem not nearly as bad.
Funny, caring guy. If you need assistance, he is always willing to help. Often, he jokes around. He can go a bit fast in lecture but it's possible that it was just the nature of the material.
Honestly he made me look forward to 8:30 lectures. Chris is super personable and really gives off the vibe that he cares about his students, even in huge classes. In his office hours he a gem: very helpful and accommodating. He makes jokes in lectures every day, and makes it easy to stay focused. I would definitely would recommend him.
Great personality, clear explanations, and will always answer your questions. Couldn't ask for much more!
Great prof. Lectures are clear and he slips in a few jokes. He responds to emails quickly. I look forward to my next class with him.
Chris is a great prof. Really funny, works really hard to make connections with the students. Very relatable and always gives clear help!
Great guy, seems to have been way better than the other options for teachers as a ton of people switched into his class mid way through. The only thing I can fault him on is introducing content with very difficult examples. There me off a little at first.
Eagle made an 8:30am math lecture bearable. Lectures were clear - though the examples were much harder than anything ever tested - and he constantly tried to brighten up class with jokes. Would definitely recommend him for this course!
Such a good prof get him if you can makeshift lectures interesting
Chris is awesome, very friendly and loves office hours.
Chris Eagle is one of the best teachers (professors) I have or probably will ever have. He is extremely smart and extremely relatable to students. His lectures are engaging and, in difficult first-year calculus courses, are very worth going to. He is also incredibly organized and wants to help students succeed that is obvious!
He's super enthusiastic about math, but I found his lectures to be very theorem heavy, and we never got tested on theorems. I didn't think he did enough examples, and I didn't find his explanations very clear but he makes some solid math jokes, which are very appreciated in morning calculus
Felt like he helps with a very smooth transition from high school. Chatty, enthusiastic, and can keep your attention quite well for a math prof.
God-tier professor. Get's excited when talking about math which makes you excited about math. Show up early to make sure you get a seat!
Man the best prof I've had so far. Incredible man. Makes you love math.
Chris made a boring and tedious course somewhat interesting. Math 101 requires a decent chunk of work so be prepared to put in a number of hours per week. It's not impossible to do well but it does require work to be successful.
The best teacher I have ever had in my life.
I had Chris for math 100, math 110, and math 101. Was super helpful in office hours, and really cares about how you are doing in the class. If you make the effort to get help from him, you will definitely get it! His lectures and notes were really easy to follow even though the material was sometimes difficult. Would definitely recommend!!
TAKE MATH 100 and 101 with Dr. Eagle! He is the course coordinator and the best math prof so if you take the courses with him then you will do significantly better than those who don't. Do all of the assigned tutorials and memorize them because his tests are mostly based off of them, and example questions from lecture so go to lecture as well.
Very enthusiastic about math. Used to show us cute pictures of his two-year old son which made 8:30 classes more bearable. I never went to his office hours but he was always suggesting that we attend them which is good. I would definitely take one of his classes again if I ever take more math.
Best prof
Good enthusiasm, great prof. Take his course if you have the option to.
Really enthusiastic, good prof, funny, cares about his students and actually makes an effort to get students to understand the material
Great prof. I love his classes. The material can be tough but he always explains things in a clear way. Make sure you go to class and if you are stuck his office hours are really helpful.
He's a great professor and keeps his lectures fun and engaging and is hilarious and always makes and 8:30 am class worth it.
I started the semester in the same class with another prof, but after getting 50% on the first midterm, I went to his lectures and my marks went up to 70% on the second midterm and 80% on the 3rd. Super funny and caring. Love the guy. If you want him to really love you, bring him chalk-No joke.
Probably the best prof I'll ever have.
Should be Time's person of the year every year. Next semester is the first time I won't have a class with Chris and I don't know how I'm going to manage. He is an amazing lecturer and makes an incredible effort to help single student who wants it. Will email you back within 10 minutes every time, and learned the name of every person in the class.
Part god, awesome teacher. He is awesome at explaining everything, is hilarious and makes math a lot more interesting. He is everything a hard working student could want from a teacher.
I can understand why many people like this prof. He is willing to help. He is approachable and his lectures are solid. He writes on the chalkboard and we just copy things down. His notes pretty much-covered everything I needed to know. It was useful. I highly recommend Chris
good prof but he is quite fast in his lectures.
So useful in his office hours!
Chris is funny and very good at explaining things. The notes for this course (which are given in lieu of textbooks) are full of typos which compromised my understanding of the material. Since they're used for all sections, I'd still recommend Chris, but know you'll have to spend too much energy on interpreting what was meant rather than said.
Chris was an amazing and caring prof. It was hard to catch up on the material I missed on the couple days I skipped class, but this is just a testament to how well he teaches. He was funny and always seemed happy to teach. Would highly recommend.
he the plug
Best prof I've had so far. Makes every class interesting.
Best Math teacher I've ever had, good god the material is hard though.
Chris Eagle is the best math prof at UVIC. His lectures are great and are accompanied by lots of useful notes for you to review. His teaching style is excellent and engaging. Great guy. Also great to visit during office hours.
Chris Eagle is a gem of a teacher. He explains things extremely well and provides motivation for all the theorems in the class. He's goofy, but in a way that really makes you want to learn the material. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him, do so.
A very well respected prof. Consider yourself lucky for getting Chris Eagle as a prof. Explains concepts well and is open-minded to any and all questions even the dumbest ones. Hilarious too. In the case of Math 110, be sure to put a lot of work and effort for it outside of class.
Chris is the best professor I have ever had. However, Math 122 was also the hardest class I have ever taken. If you are taking Math 122 be ready for hard work but definetly seek Chris as a teacher. He is energetic, funny, and positive.
Super engaging, humble, approachable, and entertaining professor who makes intimidating topics understandable.
Don't take a class with Chris if you do not want to major in math -- because you will!
Chris is amazing! He's incredibly friendly and takes the time to ensure students are truly understanding the material, and his enthusiasm for math make his lectures very interesting and enjoyable
Absolute beauty. Enough said.
Chris has been my favourite professor so far in my uni experience. He's funny, super enthusiastic, and always prepared to share a story about his son to the class. His lectures are always entertaining, and JAMMED with information (so I wouldn't skip if I were you.)
Hes a great prof. If you have a choice, always go with Chris.
I wish he could teach all of my lectures. His lessons are very well thought out and structured which makes it easy to take concise notes. It's not an easy class but you will learn a lot.
Linear algebra is a tough class but Eagle makes it much better with a genuine enthusiasm for the material and really good lectures with clear examples. Try not to miss the lectures as the textbook is really hard to learn from, and is much easier if you've been introduced to the concepts in the lectures.
Chris is a very enthusiastic, passionate, fast-talking lecturer. If you look past his outward personality, he is an average teacher. Obviously, his enthusiasm helps you engage in the course, but in the end he provided a learning experience equal to many other math professors I've had before.
living legend
His lectures are far too fast paced. He simply talks and writes too fast. As everyone says, he's absolutely super nice and wants you to do well, but I found it hard to absorb a single concept in lecture due to him going so fast.
He makes math fun. He's passionate about what he teaches and cares about your learning. Best advice is go to class. This was the only class I didn't miss a lecture because if you miss a lecture, you will miss important content.
True to the legends, Chris is a literal savior when it comes to linear algebra. His lectures are so well constructed and polished, and his humor makes them exciting -- even at 8:30AM. Thank you Chris, you are my hero.
Chris was the best professor I have ever had! He has a way of describing really difficult concepts in an intuitive way that you can understand, and he is engaging and funny. His tests were hard but fair, and his homework assignments forced me to dig a bit deeper and develop a thorough understanding of course concepts. Best office hours of any prof!
Chris is an amazing prof! You can really tell that he cares about his students and wants them to do well. The concepts covered are not easy given how abstract they are; however, Chris does an awesome job at explaining them. I found that his tests were fair and reflected the material taught. Overall, Chris was my favorite prof this term by far!
Chris is a great professor. He adapted to the online environment really well. He very clearly cares about his students and the material. The lectures are very engaging and the homework is well crafted. I would recommend Chris to anyone.
Chris is a really caring and genuine prof and does a great job of teaching some challenging material. He definitely makes you work hard for good grades but all the tests and homework assignments are fair. He's always willing to answer questions and has clear expectations for students taking his classes.
The class was hard but Chris is a great prof. Lectures were live but had skeleton notes. He gave clear feedback on tests and quizzes and really tried to make the content interesting
Chris is an excellent prof, and he had tried his best to make the lecture interesting and straightforward, but keep in mind, Math 122 is one of the most confusing and hardest courses. Be prepared to do lots of practice questions and theory proving.
Great guy and really good at teaching.
Amazing teacher. Always prepared and engaging. Honestly wish he taught all my math classes
Chris Eagle is one of the few professors that I have encountered who genuinely seems like he cares about the mental health and wellbeing of his students. While certain professors in stem see (especially first year) students as a bunch of idiots they are obligated to teach, it seems like Chris genuinely enjoys his job.
Chris has a wonderful personality and is respectful in all cases. He seems incapable of understanding how unfairly he grades however. I understood every topic but the amount of time given on tests, grading scheme, and disregard for his own question making failures makes passing his upper level classes incredibly difficult. Great for lower levels.
Math110 is generally a very hard class to take because of course concepts but Chris tries his best to help you understand. I would recommend going to all the lectures because the course textbook we used this year was new (made by Chris himself) and was incomplete (not a great resource to self teach). if you attend lectures this class is doable
Professor Eagle is an amazing prof. The material is tough but if you go to class and the tutorials you can do well. The lectures are very organized and clear. Chris makes the class very enjoyable and often stays after class to answer questions. I would highly recommend.
An absolute wonderful gem from UVic Math Department. As a first-year engineering student, I am glad to get introduced to Chris Eagle and Tom Thompson!
Amazing guy
Amazing CSC Proffesor 100% would take this course with him again
Chris is the most wholesome guy I know. The content is HARD, though. So don't skip class.
Great lecturer and kind person, definitely recommend!
Chris is one of the saints of the UVIC faculty. He is kind, funny, and deeply cares about mathematics as a whole. His lectures are easy to follow and he always takes time to answer questions. The homework is clear and the content for mid terms and final are clear too. I would take Dr. Eagle for every mathematics class if I could
Math 110 is very tough but Chris makes it more managable. His office hour are super helpful and he explains the concepts and guides you through the homework material. Lectures are great and he eases you into things smoothly, especially in the first few weeks when everythings all new. Textbook is free which is nice but some questions are incomplete.
Chris is hands down the best professor I had this term. He explains tough concepts thoroughly, is very engaging, and is enthusiastic during lectures. The midterms and exam was very fair, as long as you don't regularly skip class and don't cram study the night before, it's easy to get a decent grade. 10/10 W math prof
Prof Eagle is an absolute joy to have as a teacher. The course is hard because it has so much unfamiliar material, but he makes it as easy as possible. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He is super helpful and patient. He truly cares about his students. He writes extraordinarily fast, so be ready to write and show up 2 minutes early at least.
Chris Eagle is one of the nicest most caring profs at UVic. Additionally he explains each concept clearly and thoroughly and often stops to make sure that the class is following what he says. If you're taking a math course you should really try to get Chris if you can.
Matrix algebra is a very difficult course, but Chris' teaching made it so much easier. He is super kind and was always eager to host class. He explained concepts well, although sometimes analogies still got lost (often when the subject was particularly abstract). I would gladly take another one of his courses in the future.
MATH 110 is a pretty difficult course, but Chris made it a wonderful experience. Would definitely reccomend.
Chris was a gem among the first year engineering profs. His lectures were well motivated, explained very clearly, and his homework problems were usually either interesting/fun or easy. The tests weren't easy by any means, but definitely doable with some practice. A funny guy, and you can tell he is super caring. Highly recommend!
