Extremely easy class, but also extremely boring. He has no enthusiam for what he is saying which makes it very hard to pay attention. You could never go to class, buy U notes still have an A except that he gives daily quizzes which are worth points so you have to go every single day.
He is easy. If you go to classs everyday you get an 100 test grade. Do the study guides and you will do good on the test and attend the SI sessions when it is time for the test and they are going over the study guides. I got an A
Easy class... tests arent bad at all... i used unotes the whole semester and had two a's and two b's on the test... attendence isnt mandatory but you have to go... i ended up with a C because i had a 36 test grade for the in class work... if you dont like to go to class dont take him
Attendance is necessary. but the class as a whole was really easy.
I took the UNotes for this class, which means I went every day. You pretty much have to do that to maintain your grade because you have a one point grade every day that equal almost as much as a test grade. Tests are ridiculously easy. Never did the reading assignments.
Really awesome guy! Make sure you go to class bc it's 20% of your grade, but his tests are VERY easy. I didn't do the reading assignments and made an A. He's a really nice and funny guy. Take him! :)
Go to class!! It is a test grade (20%) He is pretty interesting for a History teacher. Really nice..the test are not hard. You just have to study pretty hard for them. I would study for 5 hours the night before and make B's on the test. It really helped having someone to study with too. TAKE HIM! Easiest History teacher!!
His lectures are about as boring as church when you're ten. Go to the two SI sessions before the exams...they are the most helpful for studying!! Go to class because it's mandatory, but taking notes is difficult so get U-notes. I brought my computer to class and surfed Facebook the whole time to pass time.
very easy class. attendance is not mandatory but if you do like i did and don't go you lose a lot of easy points. daily quizzes which add up to count as much as a test. if you don't study you won't do well but if you study this class is very easy. never read the book. study and you will do well. even if you dont take notes go to class for the quiz
He seems to know exactly what he's talking about. his voice gets monotone sometimes, but he really makes things interesting. get the U notes and go to class and you'll do well. His in-class quizzes are a joke. it doesn't matter what you write and you still get credit.
BORING! SOOO BORING! Talks WAY too fast and changes slide too quickly. HOWEVER! Study guides hole 99% of info on exam, do them. Go to the SI session and the guy will help u with them. Tests are easy of you know the study guide info. Buy the book. He seems to idolize that strayer dude and asks questions on the exam about him found only in the book
Awesome! Really nice and cares about students. His daily assignment suck but they are worth 50% of your grade so do all of them. Test are a lot of writing, but they are pretty easy. Really enjoyed taking this class really interesting. Easy B but a hard A class.
I really enjoyed the class, i found the information interesting. He is a funny guy and his tests are easy! I recommend you take him!
Really interesting class. He's a nice/smart guy, makes class interesting. Kind of boring and monotonous though. You must go to class because he has daily "lecture quizzes" (they are EASY) every day; they are worth 1 pt each, but add up to be worth a test score. Go to class and read! Powerpoints go online but they aren't enough. You must take notes!
HE IS HARD. His tests are at least. but he is a great teacher and is very knowledgeable in this subject. he was very accessible by email and office hours if you needed to meet with him, etc. he gave daily exercises for one point every day of class, and added up, those help your grade a lot. you have to read and take great notes in order to pass.
Very knowledgeable, class was interesting but tests are hard. Puts slides on blackboard, but you MUST take notes and READ in order to make an A. If you just take notes on the slides, a B is possible with much study, but for an A you absolutely have to read. GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY. Do NOT even miss one. Really great prof, though. Loved his class.
Really nice guy and very smart. GO TO CLASS EVERY DAY! Daily assignments are easy, only grades them on effort. TEST SUCK!! Very very difficult tests! I studied a ton and went to every SI session and only made a C. You MUST take perfect notes.
Lectures are powerpoint driven. His narration is dynamic and interesting. Daily reading, though lectures are enough without it. Daily quiz with answers given during lecture raise grade and count 20%. Pay attention, take notes, and the tests are a breeze. I went to only 6 class meetings which hurt my daily grade but still pulled a C.
Great professor. Daily assignments are big so make sure you put effort into them. Study guides cover everything on the test so an A is very possible if you put in the time.
I enjoy Dr. Ferguson's classes. You know you earned your grade. He actually teaches you to be a Historian. It's not just regergitating info. He really knows his subject!
Love him! Makes you do daily exercises worth a point each class so you have to go. Really easy to pay attention to and excellent lecturer. Didn't open the textbook and made As on every test. Take extensive notes in class and you'll do great.
Great lecturer and incredibly helpful outside of class. Class is enjoyable, usually ends 10-15 mins early. Gives unanswered study guide. 4 50 question multiple tests (80%) + attendance (20%). Tests are not easy and many questions are "pick which one does not belong." He likes to use fancy vocabulary on many test answers, which makes it harder.
Good teacher, always willing to accommodate for student and very helpful outside of class. Gives daily exercises that do account for grade but arnt hard. Tests can get tricky but gives study guides
Great class from a professor that knows his stuff and loves to share it. You have to go and pay attention though, because his daily exercises are 20% of your grade and that ads up quickly
Attendance isn't mandatory, but he has daily exercises that are part of your grade so you better go! Plus, his tests are basically derived from his lectures. Take good notes, know his study guide and it's an easy A!
Awesome guy. He Knows a lot of really interesting facts about history in general. The class is a lot of work, especially the daily assignments, but if you put in the effort it is difficult to not get an A.
Professor Ferguson is one of the most helpful and understanding teachers I have ever had! Always makes himself available outside of class and is VERY easy to talk to. He is a little nerdy when you first see him but he really knows his stuff! Make sure to take good notes in class (write/type fast). I actually found this great app for my computer that records audio and synchronizes it with your typing! (Audio Note).
He is a great professor and really knows what he is talking about. Gives in class writing assignments (super easy) which help boost your grade. He gives a thorough study guide that really helps narrow down material for the exam. Would definitely reccomend him!
Professor Ferguson was great. You read every day, so if that's not your thing, don't take him. But you do learn a lot, and he is a fair grader. Very intelligent, passionate and knows almost everything about his subject. Great course if you're pursuing history!
very hard class, he makes the tests very confusing instead of testing on the material itself.
Truly a knowledgeable man that knows how to teach. He's an international historian so he's basically a brain in history. Great lectures that are easy to understand. His approach forces the material to stick if you do his reading assignments. Tough grader for sure but not impossible if you pay attention and READ the textbook.
Incredibly smart man! He knows so much and loves teaching history! Go to class everyday and do the daily assignment! You can bs the answers, but if you skip, that missed point hurts your grade! He lectures a lot and most of what he says his on the slides, but if you only write down what he says, he posts his slides after class. Great teacher!!!!
I really enjoyed Prof Ferguson. You have to do daily readings and assignments for participation credit but they really aren't bad. His lectures are very clear and the tests follow the guidelines he says they will. Overall, I really enjoyed his class.
Dr. Ferguson is an awesome professor! His lectures follow a powerpoint so it's easy to take notes, and he tends to throw a little humor in as well! 20% of the grade is based off of one-point assignments that you do each day in class, so it's a good grade-booster. He's always available to answer questions during office hours or via email!
VERY good lectures, tests are mostly from his lectures (some from the book obviously) so go to class. Also gives daily exercises that are pretty easy and graded essentially for participation which is helpful (and a lot of them are on tests). Overall one of the better professors I've had here. Definitely recommend him.
Required reading material, but not necessarily required to pass. Lectures for the whole class, but makes it as enjoyable as he can. There are (short) 1 point daily assignments, and the points add up- do them. He gives study guides and posts the lecture slides, but taking good notes in class is essential for doing well. Would definitely recommend!
I am so glad that I had Dr. Ferguson! He has good lectures and powerpoints and makes it interesting! Tests are almost entirely from the notes, but there are questions from the assigned readings. You should read if you want to make an A. GO TO CLASS. He gives 1 point for participation daily for turning in the daily exercises. Take him! Funny guy!
Tests can be wordy and tricky, long lectures but be sure to show up to class. He gives daily activities which is an easy 20% of your grade if you do them all. He is really nice if you go into his office hours. Overall I would take this class again. I wouldn't say it was an easy A, but definitely possible.
Dr Ferguson is a good professor. Aside from the dim lights that made me sleepy, he is, in all sincerity, an engaging, friendly, and knowledgeable lecturer. SI was available for 1020, and I would HIGHLY recommend going before exams. Didn't ever read the textbooks, went to every lecture and SI before exams, got an A on each exam and an A for final.
Judging by his lectures and his ability to convey complex historical events and ideologies to students, Professor Ferguson is a very knowledgable man. He cares that his students understand the material and is clearly passionate about what he teaches. Apply yourself and put effort into the daily writing assignments, and you will learn a lot.
Great professor with hard exams. I would recommend, just prepare to study a lot for his exams. There are 4, including the final.
Ferguson is one of the best lecturers I have had at Auburn. Participation is mandatory, but he makes it worth it. Tests are tough and require a lot of studying, but attendance is 20% of grade. I would highly recommend Ferguson is you love History.
tests are so tough. attendance matters. lectures are long and speaks very fast. class makes you want to fall asleep.
No papers. Tough tests. Easy C, hard to get a B. One point attendance for each class, although it's optional but will help your grade if you go. 4 tests and the final is not cumulative. Gives study guide for each test but they're still pretty hard. No homework.
he was good. i would recommend him to a friend. I did not read and still easily made an A.
Professor Ferguson does not take attendance but there is a daily question every day that will add up to one test grade. The tests are fairly average but do not expect him to scale or pump you up at all. You also have daily reading that is about 3-5 test questions. Overall though, easy to get a B if you go to class.
He has been the best professor I have had yet. His lectures are very clear. If you go to class and take notes it is not a difficult class. Best of all, there was no cumulative final.
Professor Ferguson is an excellent speaker and more so is very knowledgeable upon a vast array of historical topics. Taking notes, paying attention, but most of all participating in class is key. Professor Ferguson is also easy to talk with and is very helpful to the students in his classes. Also yes, reading, there is a lot of that.
Dr. Ferguson is an amazing teacher. I took him over the summer & I wish I would've took him for a regular semester instead. He's really passionate about what he's teaching & really got me interested in learning history. He knew me by name before the end of the 2nd week. His test are not hard, if you come to class. Definitely take him!
Dr. Ferguson rocks!! You will have to study for sure to get good grades but he is such a nice man and willing to help you if he can. He cares about his students and is very passionate about history. His lectures are usually pretty interesting and if you go to class constantly it will raise your grade a lot. I would recommend him to all.u
Dr. Ferguson is one of the best professors I have ever add. Genuinely gets to know his students and cares about them. Go to him outside of class, it is extremely beneficial. Would absolutely take another one of his classes. He is a great guy and always there for his students.
He is my favorite teacher I have had at Auburn University. Class is definitely mandatory, as he does in class activities every day that are turned in, but his lectures are incredible. He is SO passionate about this subject that it is nearly impossible to become bored when listening to him, and I don't even like history. Make sure you read the hw.
Dr. Ferguson's lectures are precise and interesting, tests are straight from the lectures. He assigns readings- I made an 86 without reading, so interpret that as you may. There is a daily participation grade that is handwritten so you have to be in class each day for that. He is very helpful in office hours. I would take his class again!
Dr. Ferguson is a great professor and clearly knows what he is talking about. His lectures can be long but he explains content very well. His tests can be tricky but as long as you take good notes beyond his power points you should succeed. Very nice guy and is very available for his students
Great teacher, very fair. I went over my notes after every class and filled out his study guides before tests and never really had any trouble. I thought he was a very good lecturer! I would definitely take him again.
Great teacher. Tests aren't difficult at all if you go to class and listen to his interesting, sometimes funny lectures. 20% of grade is attendance. Daily assigned readings are sometimes long, but not necessary to do good in the class.
He goes really fast in lectures so I recorded them for later. His power points are minimal information so you HAVE to listen to him speak. His test are hard, but doable if you can take good notes.
Dr. Ferguson is the best prof at Auburn. He talks lightning fast and his calss PowerPoints are vague, so take notes on literally everything he says. I recorded the lectures for later. Releases extensive study guides and explains everything during lectures extensively. Never got less than a 98% on a test but that's only because I took great notes
I enjoyed Dr. Ferguson. However, beware there is no extra credit so you have to get your extra points from going to class. The tests are fairly close to the study guide but I would recommend skimming over the readings and highlight the important stuff.
HARD CLASS
This class is extremely straightforward. Easy A if you go to class and take notes on what he SAYS, not what's on the slides. Reading the book isn't necessary as he will tell you the important points from the book in lecture. He speaks very quickly but is very articulate and clearly knowledgeable on the material. Definitely a great prof for 1020.
He is a good lecturer. If you can take good notes, take him. If you are just trying to take a hist 1020 course without trying, don't. his class really depends on your ability of understanding and taking a good notes. he is a very fast lecturer so if you can't keep up, you will most likely not pass his class.
He does teach student very well during his lecture but his lecture speed is very fast. Be aware that you guys have to take note from what he said due to his PPTs are vague. make sure to do daily assignments and it does count as your grade. His tests are not easy. to get a good grade, get much as detail possible on his test(writing test). GLHF
He's a great professor and definitely knows his stuff. However, there's a lot of reading that is to be done before every class, and some of it is incredibly boring. There is also a daily writing assignment due before every class. It's kind of annoying. That said, he is definitely a teacher that I would take again. I've learned so much in his class
His tests are writing test consist of essay, analyzing pictures or short article, and labeling information about certain historical events or people. essay part is worth 50 of test grade and I recommend you guys to look at rubric prior to taking a test to not miss requirements. his lectures are based on his taking and make sure to do homework.
He is a great lecturer, however if history isn't your thing you most likely won't make an A because there are only 4 tests. You get a grade for coming to class and doing a daily assignment every day, but it doesn't really help you, it just hurts you if you miss. Power points are vague so you have to pay attention to what he says.
He has a really good sense of humor. Take notes on what he says and not as much on the powerpoint slides. Tests aren't horrible but they aren't easy.
Professor Ferguson is by far the best professor Ive had. During lectures you need to take notes to do well. There are four tests total including the final. The only homework is reading but you dont have to do that in order to do well. If you do the study guide youll do well on tests. They arent memorization tests! Highly recommend Dr. Ferguson.
Dr. Ferguson is such an amazing professor. Imagine a stereotypical nerdy teacher-- thats him. It clear he is passionate about history and anytime I've needed help he's been truly amazing. The tests are somewhat difficult but if you take decent notes you should be fine. Daily exercises are a real grade boost also so its important not to skip.
Honestly he's one of the better history profs at auburn. My best piece of advice to you is to take notes on your computer because he goes SO FAST. MAKE SURE TO WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS & PUTS UP. If he ever shows a picture it 100% will be on the test. Would've made an A but he gave me false info about the next test in his office hours.
Ferguson is awesome!! Go to class!! If you do the Daily Assignment (opinion based questions) you get a point a class! It adds up to 20% of your grade, which is like 100% for test grade!!! Take detailed notes! His tests can be challenging!! I would type everything he says and do the study guide to prepare! He is awesome and hilarious!
Dr. Ferguson is probably one of the goofiest dude ever. He looks kinda like a gnome(Just missing the little hat). But real talk, his class is great. He makes you actually want to go to class and learn history.
Dr. Ferguson was a great teacher. He does daily exercises, so you won't get points if you don't show up to class. His lectures are great. He puts the slides online, so take more notes on what he says during the lecture because It will most likely be on the test.
Fantastic teacher. Go to class and take notes for an A. Learned more from this man than in a whole year of highschool. Reading the book assignments before lecture helps, but you honestly don't need to do them.
Definitely one of my favorite classes I've taken at Auburn. Ferguson makes class interesting. Definitely go to class to do the daily activities and write down as much as you can. The study guides are almost word for word what will be on the tests. Easy A.
Dr. Ferguson makes his class very enjoyable. He does daily exercises, so make sure you go to class. He gives study guides that are almost word for word what's on the test. Easy A.
go to class for daily participation points on the nights reading. His lectures are pretty interesting and engaging, and are definitely important for the test. the tests are all 50 multiple choice with 1 bonus. Pretty good History class, definitely have to go and pay attention to get an A but it is manageable, and you will definitely pass
hes an angel
I have enjoyed every single one of Professor Ferguson's classes. He knows the subject inside and out. You can tell that he enjoys his job and that makes a big difference. Show up with an open mind and you can very well expect to get new perspective and a laugh. He is definitely a professor who makes history a story which one can follow.
Very entertaining speaker, however, you cant just write down the slides and pass. First, he goes way too fast to type word for word, especially toward the end of the semester. Second, the slides don't provide much info other than giving you a list of topics that he is going to elaborate on or a quote. Textbook not necessary, but recommended.
Dr. Ferguson really is such a nice professor, however, his teaching style is VERY fast and you MUST write down everything he says because that is what his tests are based on. This was a challenging course and I did all things necessary to succeed, I went to his office hours, had perfect attendance, and attempted to write every word he said down.
He is such a sweet person and you can tell he really loves history. However, he talks really fast and you have to write down everything he says, not what is on the powerpoint slides. I somehow did ok on all the tests but his class isn't for everyone. He wasn't a terrible professor so I would recommend him.
Ferguson is an amazing lecturer. You have to attend class in order to complete daily in-class short answer assignments that count for attendance. Take good notes in class. Study a decent amount and make A's on exams, study the night before/day of and make B's.
Dr. Ferguson is the best professor I've ever had. His Material Culture class was also the best class I have ever taken. Taking his class is like watching your favorite movie. I could take this class twenty times over and never get tired of it. If you are a history major, you need to take it. He also is very transparent and relatable.
this class is so boring it is making me come on here and write a review. seriously, I am writing this as he lectures. the tests suck. I worked so hard to do the study guide for over a week and only managed to pull out an 80 on the test. he talks a mile a minute so it is impossible to write down what he says and his slides have absolutely no info.
I took him for 1020 and he just wasn't for me. He has a powerpoint slide that he lectures off of but you have to write down what he says, not whats on the board. He posts the slides later on but they're out of order and useless to study. Never learned how to study for his tests so I never did and got a grade in the 70s each time.
Dr. Ferguson is very knowledgeable about what he's teaching and you can tell he cares for his students. He makes history interesting. However, it is impossible to take good notes unless you type down everything he says. Tests cover a lot of information and it was hard to prepare for them because the test questions are difficult to understand.
I thoroughly enjoyed taking European history with him. He turns the history of the continent of Europe into something that feels like a story. He does a good job of explaining the cause & effects of everything that was going on during the time period. Be ready for reading though. A. Lot. of. Reading, but it helps to give you context for the lecture
I had Dr. ferguson for a blended course. His lectures are rather boring and he words the tests to make the very hard. All of my tests were open book and I averaged between an A and B on them. There is daily quizzes and weekly writings. no extra credit
Dr. Ferguson is a very nice man, however, his class has a lot of "busywork." There is a ton of reading required and his lectures are sometimes hard to follow.
Dr. Ferguson is a nice enough guy, but the class was difficult. There was way too much reading assigned and he is a hard grader when it comes to assignments.
He talks 500 words per minute. He responds quickly to emails. You have 3 assignments a week. 1 is a short response that he said was suppose to be pass or fail and "2 sentences" yet he gave most everyone 50s claiming we didnt write enough. His tests were open book but still very hard. The only way to do good is if you take very detailed notes
I really enjoyed this class. He bases all assignments off of his lectures, so if you are lazy and don't want to go to class and listen, then you might not think this class is easy. I barely put any effort into this class and ended with an A. All I did was show up to class and take decent notes. He is such a nice man and cares about students.
I really enjoyed this class. If you show up to class and take somewhat decent notes and pay attention, you will be fine. I did not really have to hardcore study or put very much effort into this class. He is a very nice man, and if it looks like you put effort into the homework writing assignments he will give full credit. 11/10 class.
Ferguson talks fast in his lectures and there's a LOT of material in the 1.5 hour lectures given. Your notes will provide you with the questions on the tests but not the answers. He really makes you think. Attending class is the best way to absorb the information but long hours of studying is necessary to do well.
Dr. Ferguson was a good professor. Just watch the lectures and take detailed notes. His lectures were very heavy and took a while to watch. You were able to use your notes on the exams and they were not proctored. All his exams were straight from lectures. I did not even buy the textbook. Chill guy.
Professor Ferguson was bad. He speaks way too fast. It's like he's saying 500 words per minute and it gets ridiculous. You can't type notes or keep up with what he's saying because he goes so fast. His PowerPoints also contain little to no information on them. The tests aren't bad but good luck, you're going to need to be quick with notes.
I am usually good at history, but this semester I was not. I did not do well on the first two exams after attending class everyday and studying the study guides provided. Dr.Ferguson goes extremely too fast and there is no point in taking notes in class since he’ll just immediately skip the slide after talking about it for 2 seconds. AVOID!!!
I personally loved Dr. Ferguson. To succeed in his class, do the readings beforehand, take good notes in lectures, and study them with the study guide for exams. He is passionate about the subject and makes it interesting and engaging, and you 100% need to go to lectures to make a good grade. A great professor, and would definitely recommend him.
Professor Ferguson was simply awful. Hate to say it about a guy that cares a lot about the subject he's teaching. It's extremely hard to keep up with what he's saying and write down good notes. Professor Ferguson's tests are the hardest part, good luck with those. The way he formats his multiple choice questions makes 3/4 of them seem correct.AVOID
you can really tell he likes to teach. lectures are recorded so its optional attendance. tests arent that hard if you study the study guide, they're all multiple choice and I got all As on them. he's really nice and let me take a test when I missed one, I'm taking him again next semester.
Professor Ferguson definitely cares about what he's teaching. This being said, he is not a professor you want to take. A majority of the students in the class did badly on a test one time and he complained to us about email complaints when he had horrible testing format. His tests consist of multiple choice questions, all answers are the same. 3/10
Very lecture heavy and taking lots of notes. SI sessions are helpful and he posts his powerpoints and lectures. Tests are multiple choice and not too hard if you study.
I felt like I was taking an AP history test for every test. Convoluted answers are what make up most of his tests. On more than one occasion, there were test questions with multiple correct or arguable answers on his tests but only one of the answers would give you credit.
Class is interesting at times, you can tell Dr. Ferguson is very passionate. Tests are difficult but not impossible if you prepare well in advance and complete the study guide. Attendance not mandatory but daily reflections prove if you watched the lecture. Go to lecture, take thorough notes, study/complete the study guide, you should do fine.
Dr Ferguson was a great history teacher. The class is made up of 4 test and a daily reflection after each lecture (1-2 sentence). Extremely easy test. I literally would study for 30 minutes before the test and got a 97 in the class. Lectures are just him talking for the whole time, but still interesting. Honestly the easiest history class at Auburn
Read the assigned readings and pay attention during lectures and you won't need to study. His lectures are interesting, and are broken up by short response questions he gives that serve as a grade for attendance.
Professor Ferguson is very lecture heavy and gives good notes to take but be prepared. He gives a study guide for each test but there is barely anything that is on the study guide that is on the test. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives out daily exercises that are worth one point every lecture.
He made history as difficult as it could have been. His tests were so hard and it was all about picking the "best" answer not just the right answer because a lot of the answer choices were really similar. He is very responsive to emails and helpful in office hours. Don't take this class if you want an easy A for history, it's possible but not easy.
You really need to pay attention during the lectures, as a lot of the test content comes from things in the readings and that he says during lectures. He doesn't really offer extra credit or curve grades. The exams focus more on specifics and a lot of the answers will seem right. There are daily worksheets and quizzes that count for attendance.
I had him for History 1020 and it was by far one of the hardest classes I have taken. I studied and went to study sessions and still ended with a C in the course. His tests are very hard and even with studying are impossible to pass. He is a nice guy and loves the subject but his class is very hard.
Not sure why he has such a high rating. Miss one class and you fall completely behind. He posts his power points online but they have one word or phrase on them, so it's not very helpful. VERY lecture heavy with a 2-3 question short answer quiz every day. There are at least 3 readings before each class.
Do not take. Worst teacher I've had at auburn so far. Doesn't know how to teach students.
No textbooks, but several real books and a lot of online resources. Content-heavy lectures, so taking notes is a must. You have to show up, because the slides aren't a lot of help by themselves (mostly pictures and primary sources). Tests are easily prepared for and in-class writing assignments are based on the prior readings. So, read.
Hardest class I have taken at auburn. Powerpoints are no help, so many readings and lecture heavy. The tests were impossible and the study guides he gives are barely any help. Would not recommend taking his class.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. His notes on the PowerPoints are posted but are not even really on the test. He wants you to pick the "best" rather than the "correct" answer. He has good lectures but it doesn't show up on the test and the tests are so difficult.
Dr. F is nice and gives long lectures that are interesting. His tests are very difficult and detailed, so if you do not take great notes on what he is saying you will not do well because the powerpoints are just bullet points. Even missing one class will hurt. I have always made As (even in tough classes) and I might make a B and I study ~15 hr.
Super nice guy but a very lecture heavy course. He will talk from the very beginning of class to the very end. Attendance is counted through easy daily exercises. Make sure you take notes on what he is saying on not just what is on the slides. Tests are a little challenging but taking good notes should help you to do well on them.
Tests were very tough. You have to show up every day in order to get the material that you need to learn for the test. Will talk the entire time and can be very monotonous. Attendance matters.
Ferguson is passionate about his courses. HIST2080 had 6/7 assigned books but not textbooks. do the readings before class and you will be fine. show up to every single class because getting behind is very easy. i would recommend him to anyone that needs an elective
History is not for everyone, but Dr Ferguson really makes it interesting. He is a very organized professor, making it easy to stay on track and engaged during lectures. His tests are fully multiple choice and aren't the easiest, but if you study, read the readings, and pay attention in class you'll do just fine. Highly recommend for Hist 1020!
Don't slack on this pre-req class and you'll be fine. Do the readings, show up to class, do your daily exercises (they'll tank your grade if not) and use the study guide. Put in the work and you'll reap the reward. Genuinely passionate about history and thus interesting to listen to if you pay enough attention.
Lecture heavy, but organized learning. If you pay attention and study you can easily pass the class
Professor Ferguson is a very nice man, and I can tell he is very passionate about history but the tests are way harder than they need to be. Tests are the only grades that matter and they are very wordy. His study guides aren't super helpful, they are a very basic outline of what will be on the test. Take good notes and study. No extra credit.
Dr. Ferguson is very nice and easy to access. However, this class is tough. If you miss one class, you miss a ton of material that will be covered on the exam. He posts his slideshows, but they don't have enough material on them to understand it if you missed class.
I absolutely loved this class, Dr. Ferguson makes the course very interesting and packs a ton of information into each lecture. With that being said, missing a class will put you behind because there is just so much information. I definitely noticed a difference in my understanding when I missed a lecture.
Dr. Ferguson clearly knows his subject matter, and he's great at communicating complex ideas in a way that's easy to understand. He is the first GOOD history teacher I've had, and I cannot recomend him enough. If you like history, you will love his class! However, beware, there's lots of reading and LOTS of writing involved. Be ready for essays.
I LOVE HIM AND HIS CLASS. His leactures make sense and you just have to take good notes.
I am still currently in his class, and I absolutely love it. While it is a fairly tough class with lots of reading (The life of Charlotte Brontë in 4 days ), he gives great feedback and really knows what he is talking about. Don't miss class! He gives little writing assignments at the beginning of class, and they are basically for a homework grade
Dr. Ferguson is one of my favorite history professors I've had. He knows the topic well and makes it interesting to listen to during lectures. The exams are all essays, but he gives you the prompts beforehand and will critique your essay before the exam. There are also a lot of books to read for daily writing assignments, but they're normally good
Professor Ferguson's HIST1020 class is a challenging, but rewarding experience. Attend every lecture and take detailed notes - the tests are tough but manageable with good preparation. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for practice and review.
I went in to this class not knowing what to expect. Dr. Ferguson has been one of my favorite professors that I have had at Auburn. He truly cares about his students, and really knows alot about european history. His class is not hard at all if you go and take notes! Participation is important. Homework is just reading, short in class assignments!
Dr. Ferguson is such a nice guy and made class enjoyable. I really learned a lot from him. You have to go to class in order to earn participation and a daily in-class assignment (which is like 50-60% of your grade) so you absolutely cannot skip to skip. There is ALOT of readings which sometimes got repetitive but overall not a bad class at all.
I really enjoyed his class this semester. I would highly recommend it to anyone. However, if you do not like lecture heavy classes, this is not the class for you. His lectures are very informational and easy to understand. He also has in class assignments every class that are very easy, but also very helpful to pay attention. He is a very kind man
Dr Ferguson is extremely passionate about European history and it shows through in his lectures. Even if the topic of the day wasn't the most interesting, he still kept me engaged every time. There was a ton of out of class reading bit the books were generally pretty good and easy to read. Exams were all short answer source analysis and an essay.
Ferguson is very knowledgeable about European history, but can be long winded during class. There are daily in class writing assignments so make sure you got to class! Exams include an essay response and source analysis, but essay prompts given ahead of time. Attend class, pay attention & work on the essays before the exam, and you'll get the A!
Class is exam heavy, but it's all multiple choice and easy if you study. He gives a study guide that is very helpful, nothing on the test is not on the study guide. Attendance is technically not mandatory, but it really is. Lectures are not boring, but if you do miss a class you will be behind. If you are willing to put in a little effort TAKE HIM!
Best history teacher I have ever had. He made the lectures so interesting. Go to class because you have Daily Exercises that are kind of like "attendance". I have always struggled in history and he is the first teacher that has ever made it understandable and interesting. You can really tell he cares for his students and that he cares about history
Has in-class assignments based on participation that add up, so do not miss. Goes in depth during lectures and explains things very well. Has 4 exams (including the final) that are non-cumulative. Gives study guides that basically tell you what will be on the exam. No homework other than ungraded reading that you can get by without doing. Nice guy.
Only grades are pretty much the tests (4 including final). Homework is reading I never did, but helpful for test. Tests are not concerned about dates or names, more the why and the effects, his questions can be difficult. Presentations are very vague, you have to listen to him or you won't do well on the tests. Study guides are provided but long.
So light just attend class and take notes and it's a easy A
Professor Ferguson is very understanding and willing to work with you whether you missed a lecture or need extra help. He responds to emails very quickly and values your time. There are not any assignments outside of class which is super nice! I would definitely take his class again!
I really enjoyed parts of this class. His lectures are incredible, you can tell by the way he talks about European material culture that he really loves teaching about it. However, the papers you have to write...hard!! We picked an object and had to write three papers on it. I ran out of things to say. However, I did enjoy the class as a whole.
Really hard for a easy class. Lesctures were entertaining and he is very nice and knowledgable but exams just way too complicated. Questions are wordy and so are the answer choices, never have an issue with test taking except for this class.
Attendance was 30 percent of grade which is beneficial until you miss two classes and it lowers your grade around 7 percent. Was a good lecturer overall. Tests definitely are a bit wordy and lots of “everything except” mcqs. He also does not round at all.
Awesome professor. Should not have a rating in the 3s. Made this class very interesting and worth going. Does a in class activity every day that's purely participation and you get 1 point every day, so while it's not mandatory you need to go. Take for 1020
Very interesting and straight forward class. Do the readings and pay attention in class and you'll be fine. Wants you to understand why things are happening, instead of memorizing the what and where of history. Very lecture heavy tests, if you don't know the slides then you're not going to do well on the test.
Only graded on tests and daily attendance exercises. Very lecture heavy but makes things as interesting as possible. There is a lot of material to cover on the study guides but they definitely will help you for the tests. He's super willing to help if you have questions
I loved Prof. Ferguson. Attendance is required through daily exercises. The only other grade is 5 exams; they are hard, but if you take notes, you'll do well. He sends out a study guide a week before the tests, which is very helpful. Overall, loved the class, definitely requires studying, but if you pay attention and take notes, you will be fine!
For me, an 8 a.m. is very hard to pay attention in, but he does his best to make them engaging - the daily exercises force you to stay awake if you want credit for the day. His tests are straightforward, and the readings are not required, but they do help significantly in class and on the tests.
So. Much. Reading. There's no text book, just a few individual books and excerpts on Canvas, but it's a lot to read! However, I really enjoy this class. The lectures are fun to listen to and the tests are very predictable, however if you don't like writing essays then you should look somewhere else. He provides a study guide that outlines exams.
Good professor and a good class. I never did any of the readings and u don't either. He teaches exactly what he wants you to know. Exams can be fairly tricky because it is application and understanding instead of just straight facts. Overall he was a fine professor. Pretty personable and easy to get along with. You MUST go to class.
Nice guy. Attendance is mandatory and the only classwork you have is the questions you answer during his lectures which are 1 point each day of class and that's your only grade besides tests. Tests are tricky wording and lectures are long and boring. Doesn't offer extra credit or a drop grade.
I loved this class! I really struggled with his learning style; he uses a lot of visuals for teaching, and there were numerous assigned readings from books. However, you can tell he knows what he is talking about, and if you take notes on what he says during class and have a general understanding of European History, you should be fine.
