funny guy uses examples from smallville and cooking. trys too make everyone interested. make sure you study and no videos.
Frank cant pronounce any of the words he uses, he makes a 45 minute test on 1/6 of the course worth 25% of our grade, and it has an essay and two short answers that are a page long. Refuses to give any mark above an 85 unless you "blow his mind"

PROS: Lots of humour, most friendly prof I've had. CON: Too much detail in lectures. We fall behind because you don't leave us to read stuff on our own. Some details are entertaining, but most can be omitted.
Very nice guy, but lectures are hard to make notes in. Get behind because of detail. Doesn't give enough time for tests.
Easy to get a long with and helpful. Uses humor to keep people interested. One of my best profs!
Very nice teacher and friendly person. He seemed really leanent but maybe thats because it was his first year!
frank was probably my best prof this year, he was so into history and he's pretty young so it's nice to see an inexperienced prof do so well. i imagine over the years he'll get better too :)
You are too short - we can't see you in the back. He bases all subsequent marks on initial mark, ie: if you get a B on the first test, you end up with a B on everything else.
Funny prof. Class is interesting for a history class. He is fair at marking but expects you to put in the effort and know your stuff
Good professor. Nice guy, good personality. He will give good marks if you try to know what you're talking about in your papers. I enjoyed the class!
Good prof. He's fairly young for a professor, but knows his stuff. His lectures are interesting and keep you awake, (my class first thing in the morning), and he has a great sense of humor to help. However, sometimes he goes into too much detail, which makes it hard to keep up in the note taking.
pros: brings in humor to keep pupils interested cons: goes on and on, going off subject sometimes...basically C.Frank is a good teacher, keeps you from falling asleep and marks fairly.
He doesn't live in Professor world...he can actually relate to his students!!
Lots of reading, lots of notes, yet lots of fun. His personal humour and anecdotes show that there is more to a prof than the stereotyped 'stuffed shirt'. Always willing to go over material to ensure you understand main concepts.
Very approachable and friendly. He even says hi to you outside of class. His lectures are interseting, although sometimes hard to follow. He is a hard marker though! However, he did give us a good idea of what to expect on the final and that helped a lot!
Professor Frank is a very outgoing and approachable class and his class is my favorite, he covers everything well and makes class fun.
Very enthused in the material, super cute.
Prof. Frank is the kind of prof I hope to be someday. Knowledgeable and articulate without an annoying ego. His class furthered my interest in the field. Plus he's adorable :-)
Ahh, Dr. Frank! Knows his stuff, but too much writing! Expects you to write an essay and 2 short answers in 50min. exam = not fair! Don't buy his reader (not tested on any of it $60!) and only read up on big topics in textbook. Very approachable and helpful, fair to hard marker. Likes to talk about home life, TV shows and his favorite-- basketball!
Probably the smallest basketball fan you will ever meet. Tough marker.
If he talks about something for a prolonged amount of time, take notice. Pretty common sense. All tests throughout the year consist of 2 definitions and one essay, but the best part is you get an option of about 15-20 things to define and 7 essay questions. Makes studying for his exams alot easier. Pretty nice guy
This prof is great! You get out exactly what you put into his classes. Took a 6 cr hr with him and was interested all year. Super funny, nice and approachable!
Professor Frank is a clear and conscise prof. He is excellent and makes lectures that facilitate notes. You can do well if you just use your notes, but the texts are necessary for the next step up to an A. He is approachable and even helped me out of a personal jam in another class. I hope to take more from Prof Frank, its always great.
Awesome
He was very helpful. He gave a very good review for tests making them easy to study for
Chris is very fair and a great guy. They type you would hang out with and have a beer. I wish I could take more classes with him. Very helpful. Take a class with him!
If there was an award for best dressed prof, Frank would win! Great prof, dynamic helpful, friendly, gets to know everyone's name.Seems like a heavy workload but the assignments are small and only worth 10-15% each.Highly recommended.
Fantastic prof!
a wonderful prof! very helpful outside the class and friendly. makes the effort to know everyone's names. all around nice guy. notes are very useful and so are the textbooks if you missed something in the lecture. my favourite prof.
UNREAL PROF, one of my all time favorites for sure, made class easy to listen to and knew everyones name....and he is extremely funny!!!
His classes were well organized. He did take up a significant amount of time lecturing during seminar classes, but his lectures were well done. His readings were focussed on social history and neglected the science & technology advancements of the nineteenth century. He gave excellent feedback on draft work that was essential to create quality work
Really good prof. I've had him for a few classes. Teaches use of primary sources really well. Use of textbook in-class is very low, but are great study tools. Really helpful and understanding. Super organized classes, prepare for fast writing though! Lots of material goes into each lecture.
Excellent prof easily my favourite so far.
Really great prof. He always made time for students after class and really made an effort to help everyone. Make sure you attend the class, or get the notes from someone but other than that this class was an easy mark (if your good at writing essays). Good class and great prof. I would recommend his class to anyone interested in history!!
Such a nice guy! Take a course with him and he will remember you for years afterwards. Unfortunately, he does tend to repeat himself. However, if he says the same thing 5 or 6 times there is a pretty good chance that it will be on the final. =)
Prof Frank is awesome. I've taken many classes with him, and they are all the same format. Easy to follow, easy marker. He also offers to proof read essays before you hand them in which is amazing! Best prof in the history department!
Prof Frank is one of the best history profs at the uni. He is extremely helpful, and gives great exam reviews (no surprises on the exam). I had medical problems during the course and he not only helped me but gave me extra time for assignments without me even needing to ask. Class is interesting and he is a fair marker. GREAT prof!!
Moves quickly through course material, but overall quite a good prof. He is entertaining and good at making history feel relevant. Gives EXCEPTIONAL exam/test reviews, and will proof-read any paper and give you feedback on it. He has high expectations for his assignments, but with decent effort an A is very achievable.
Possibly the best and funniest history prof I have ever had. He teaches with enthusiasm, and explains his points very well. Do not think that this is a bird course, you have to attend class and read the book. Highly recommended for a history enthusiast though!
I took this course in the summer and was the best choice I made! He was clear on his exams and assignments. He gave us a clear outline on essentially what was on the test so when it came to writing you were aware what was on it! Take this class with him! You will be perfectly fine :)
Great prof - super funny and interesting. He'll learn your name and say hi in the hallway if you pass him. Talks REALLY fast so can be quite the challenge to take notes -- type, don't handwrite, if at all possible. Or record his lectures, he's cool with it. Super easy grader on papers, and does AWESOME exam prep. No surprises on the test.
Loved this guy! Hilarious in lectures, really personable and super accesible in office hours. A fair marker and always willing to look over your stuff. If you take any history course, take it with this guy!
Perhaps my favourite history prof so far. He loves his subject, is interesting, has a clear outline for his notes, though takes occasional tangents which may make things confusing. Covers basic and fills in interesting details. Learns names. Lots of essay topic ideas, offers to proof read before essays are due. Highly recommend.
I took Introduction to Western Civilization with Prof. Frank over the summer and I was impressed. He's extremely intelligent and a very fair marker. I liked that he was willing to read my drafts and provide feedback. Only downfall was he didn't have any PowerPoint slides and talked very quickly which made it hard to take good notes.
BEST PROF EVER. class is like story time and tells you exactly what to expect on midterms/finals. He also looks over papers before due dates. SO approachable and easy to talk to even remembers who you are and says hello after classes are finished. I wish took all of my minor with him. Frank is the greatest.
The kinda prof you could see hanging out with outside of class! He's a funny guy who didn't seem like he had prepared jokes for class. His lectures were streamlined and had outlines so you knew what was happening. He tells you whats going to be on the tests and they are easily prepared for. Sometimes he trails off on thoughts but all in all good.
BEST PROF OF THE SEMESTER! He's hilarious and I'd take another class with him in a heartbeat. If you have questions or need help, he'll help you no problem.
My favourite prof so far at U of M! He makes history interesting and has a great sense of humour. Easy pass, next to impossible A+. He'll make you work hard for your grade but it's worth it. Don't skip his lectures, he lets you know what will be on exams if you pay attention in class.
Fave Prof so far! His lectures are great and he is clear about what will be on the exams. Tough grader but if you work hard you can get an A in his class!
Absolutely amazing!! If I can give him a higher rating, I would. I took this class with my best friend because she managed to talk me into it (even though i strongly dislike history), but Chris managed to change my perspective on the subject and I now have an appreciation for it! He has passion in what he does, and it really shows! Favourite prof!!
His lectures are engaging and interesting. The course is pretty interesting. He is very accessible outside of class. He is always willing to look over your papers before you submit them. He always goes over what will be on the tests a few classes ahead of time. Super hard A.
Dr. Frank is the best! Lectures are super interesting, well organized, and easy to follow. His enthusiasm for history will diffuse into you. The course was well-paced and he delivered the material well. Make sure to start assignments early and review lecture notes. Overall, a great experience!
I have really enjoyed taking classes with Dr. Frank. His lectures are always very interesting. His assignments are clear and fair, and he is also a very reasonable marker. He is willing to read papers before they are due and provide feedback before you submit them. Overall, a really good professor. One of the best history professors at the UofM.
Awesome prof. Two of my good friends took a class with him and we loved it. Our favourite prof by far.
Great Prof, loved the material, cared about his students and wasn't too tough a course. Would recommend him to anyone!
Awesome Prof! You will definitely have to attend class since he doesn't have slides to most of his lectures. He is very helpful during one on one discussion and is absolutely hilarious. Blatantly told us what would be on the exam so we knew exactly what to study. Tests are a great way to know what the exam is like and makes a final seem less scary.
Honestly he is an amazing professor. Seriously one of the most entertaining and engaging profs I've had in a long time. However you should go to class and read the text - most things that he is looking for on exams will be in the text as well as in his notes. Does give you a blunt statement "this will be on the exam" frequently so that's nice!
Solid Dad jokes
I took this class in first year as my writing requirement under the faculty of science. Dr. Frank was so passionate in teaching and it was entertaining to listen to his lectures and he made them quite interesting. History was a side interest for me at the time, but now I am in second year under the department of history because of him.
Great professor! He will try to get to know some of his students. Very accessible and always willing to help. Very lecture heavy but easy tests. Would take again!
I get the most enjoyment out of this class, while he gives us a lot of information during the lectures, its always fun and interesting
Dr. Frank is an absolute beauty who is great at giving lectures. Unfortunately, he marks pretty hard on tests and especially essays. Although you can skip class and should be fine because he gives great outlines for the tests. Overall, I would absolutely take again but beware he marks very hard.
Very dry and boring lectures with poor lecture slides. At least once a class he will go over stuff that you dont need to know this Im just showing off for about twenty minutes. Should be an online course that meets once a week.
He's funny and his lectures are very interesting He adds a lot of information in his lecture that you don't need to know, but help add context at a larger scale and are just fun to know
Prof. Frank was a great prof, he is very passionate about history. He is quite funny and likes to add interesting facts here and there. His lectures were well organized, and interesting. Tests are difficult, but if you are in class he pretty much tells you everything you'll need to know for them, and he gives good outlines for the tests.
Totally loved him. No funny business, lectures jam-packed with interesting information, but advises you what will be on tests. Stellar detailed essay outlines, does everything to prepare you for exams. Great subtle humour I appreciated Excellent feedback on essays "Easy pass, hard A" Also runs a ton in the gym
Pretty solid professor. I'm an engineering student who took this course as my written requirement. As someone who's generally not great at papers, Frank makes it fairly straight forward in terms of his expectations for each assessment. Would take a course with him again. Easy to get a B, but an A is challenging in this course.
Amazing professor! Would 100% take another class with him, very good feedback on assignments and priorities his students. Answered my emails in like 5 minutes time every time. Overall awesome guy.
Amazing prof. Really cares about his students succeeding. I didn't read the textbook and did fine, but may have done a bit better if I had. I did use the accompanying two 'Sources of the West' books though so i wouldn't skip buying the textbook.
Pros: respected, knowledgeable, explains stuff simply, gives great feedback, not too boring for a history professor. Cons: tests are hard, very harsh when grading.
He really makes you work for marks and does not give specific feedback on how to improve on assignments or tests. I liked his lectures, he went into a lot of detail and had an organized lecture plan. I used the document reader, but the other two textbooks weren't super helpful, he covers most things in lectures.
Papers and midterms weren't too bad, but you have to work for a good mark. His lectures were really amazing though and class discussions were good to clarify understanding. I liked this class overall, but there were 3 books on the booklist so readings were heavy.
Took Dr. Frank for Europe, Post 1870 and loved the class. Two tests, two 1500 word essays and a final but. He gives great study guides for all exams and genuinely wants you to succeed. If you put in the effort early on your paper, he is glad to give you comments and look through your rough draft. Loved the class and wish I could take another.
Class: Hist 3110 The Road to Brexit: Britain and Europe Since 1945. Amazing professor. If you wanted your papers to be reviewed, you could send it to the prof and he would suggest changes (small class, don't know if he would do it for a larger class). I would highly recommend taking a class with this professor, it was a great overall experience.
Amazing lectures which makes learning and note taking very easy. Rubrics are clear and concise, with useful feedback being given on assignments. One of my favourite classes so far, I just wish the students engaged more with the lectures.
Frank is super funny, tells antidotal stories that might be interesting. Lectures are fun. Moves kinda fast though, slideshow is little to no help for notes, so be ready to TYPE and type FAST. Exams have a lot of choice- you can choose what to define and which question to write an essay on. Lots of freedom, and interesting content!
gives good in depth answers and tries to relate to his students. his marking is pretty difficult although with the amount of the information given in his lectures you should be ok. gives great feedback on your essays and tests. also is just a funny guy in general.
When he is giving a lecture, he makes it interesting and funny so that if you don't love history it becomes a pretty good class. When you do a paper he is a pretty hard grader but he will give you lots of feedback as to what you could have done to get a better grade.
Dr. Frank seems very uninterested in his lectures and course content. Dr. Frank gives vague feedback despite making sit down appointments to go over you're essay mandatory. Despite being a history student, with a interested British labor studies, i wouldn't recommend Dr. Frank.
his lectures are entertaining and he has a sense of humor. He is very good at helping with any assignments just shoot him an email and he'll give you tons of feedback
Super nice prof! Would recommend this course
Awesome teacher! Professor Frank clearly knew his stuff, told very engaging stories during class and all his lectures were very interesting. Would definitely recommend this professor and would love to take another class with him again.
Awesome prof! Chris was super engaging in all his lectures. definitely recommend him. he grades really understandably and as long as you show up for class (which you should cuz he's fun), getting a good grade with him shouldn't be that hard.
