hes a cool guy, pretty good at explaining the material during lecture, but the exams are hard because they're just two essays, ugh!
His jokes were okay, but he would get off topic,he would tell us to write notes even though they were online, was not clear on any of the essay exams,if you got it wrong or in the question
I had him for world civ 1 and he was tough. I mean sometimes he'd go way off topic to teach the class something or just go off topic sometimes for 1/2 hour. If you have him for world civ i advise you to READ the chapters or you will become confused,he also posts all his notes online, but goes over then in class. test reviews are a bit confusing.
this man really needs a life i enjoy history very much and this man is the reason why students dont like history classes he is unclear in what he wants and then grades you on things he didn't say. His teaching methods are terrible and should maybe consider teaching rocket scientists at NASA because those are the only people on his level
I had issues with him. Like many might believe he is unclear as to what he wants on his essay exams. You have to be open minded when grading essaies because every one writes different, just because its not in the order you would like does not make it wrong. He is a new professor 1st year I believe and has a lot to learn!!!!
Had this professor in the fall of '07. I'm surprised to see so many critical reviews of him. If you're a serious student and enjoy learning then this is the guy for you. He does tend to be condescending/arrogant, But his lectures are fun. Just know how to properly form an essay and you're set. Besides, he plays CIV, thats a point bonus right there.

Teaching method is satisfactory in regards to keeping students interested. Only problem I have is the grading method on tests. Rather than grade your knowledge on the overall chapters and class discussion ,your 3 tests speed compositions on a narrow subject of his choosing. If you have difficulty writing timed essays don't take this class!
Tests are easy, you just gotta know your stuff because he EXPECTS DETAILS. I think he's fun. The class is always involved. He doesn't go by the book at all which makes it kinda harder. You gotta want to do good in his class, or you're gonna fail pretty much because you're not gonna listen to him in class.
I am taking is class, he is a cool guy an he gets you interested in class, but he tells you he doesn't go by the book then he gives you pop quizes on the chapters nothing he says ever goes along wit the book. So it leaves you extremely confused and his tests are a joke out of 100 ids he picks 10 LOL doesnt matter if you try or not your are screwed
I must say that I thought he was an amazing professor. He actually cares about his students and wants us to succeed, even outside of the college walls. It is alot of work , but I must say I actually learned alot in his class. He is funny as well. Don't take if you plan on taking the easy way out.
Worst teacher i ever had. Not everything in world history relates to the Simpsons. He needs to grow up and realize hes teaching college not children that need someone to reprimand them.
He's hard, but fair. He told everyone on the first day that it would be hard, so we were warned. Uses good illustrations for key points. I'd recommend him to any serious student and would definately take him again myself.
He is funny, entertaining,& makes learning history fun. I cant stand history but he actually made me enjoy it & learn a lot of stuff. Here's the problem. His tests which are your whole grade are ridiculous. You have to have a certain kind of imaginative mind & think like him to get a good grade. His tests are no proof if you know the material.:(
I love the 30 min standup that's starts every class-- great way to get the morning started if you have to spend it in class. The only issue are those ridiculous tests... I acually love writing and I'm in school to teach English, but those tests are a bit much for a basic level class-- save it for history majors
he posts everything online even test then surveys so he know what to and not to do in future. his classes are funny and he admits he is a nerd. no your stuff if not you will definatly fail. definatly but classes and lectures are fun. u will also always have class and always till the time ur supposed to
He is a smart teacher. He knows everything about history and teaches it really well!!...I learned alot in his class. HUGEE PROBLEM...his tests which are basically your whole grade are more about fanatsy story telling and not about wheather you know the subject or not. You have to think and write like him to get a good grade. really disappointed!
I thought Gennari was one of the best teachers I've had at CCC, as long as you're willing to work hard and you don't mind corny jokes. He's super-helpful, as long as you ask for help. If you work, he will teach you a lot, and more than just dates to memorize.
Hes not hard, hes "imposable." Not only do his self satisfying lectures barely represent/reinforce what required in his exams, but he offers no supplemental info and guarantees that even the best student will only get a "C". Txt reading is required, but NEVER used. He is a dilution of education value. He's, at best, a promotion for RateMyProfessor!
This professor is a waste of time. He is so annoying, not interesting or funny and just plain arrogant. I would never recommend this professor to any student or school. He needs to get his act together.
Smart guy who wants his students to do well. However, I had a hard time with his tests. Whenever I thought I had the right answer he would say I was summarizing. I just never knew what he wanted. It got to be very frusturating and tests didnt go by book or class lectures. His participation policy is just stupid, if we want to talk we will.
Tests are a crap-shot. Lectures can be enjoyable. I often failed at delivering the information for his I.D.s and essays the way he wanted, regardless of the quality of information. If he wants to provide students with an alternative learning and writing format, then he should spend double the time helping them achieve his unusual expectations.
He may be knowledgeable, but ut he is a poor teacher. He should listen to his students. Their comments speak volumes to how he is performing. He is trying to prove something, but the only thing he is proving is that he could use EDUC 101 before he teaches HIST 101.
Drop his class before you even start. He is the absolute worst teacher, his lectures are hard to follow he expects you know what he is talking about. He uses online WAY to much. It is not an online class. He expects you to read the book and listen to his hour long online podcasts. Unless your ready to put your life into this class, drop.
He's a hard teacher, but unless you really enjoy the challenge of learning, you will not enjoy his class. He puts in what you do. If you ask him questions about upcoming tests, he will explain it to you. Most people talk about him behind his back insted of asking him questions. Then later they complain about their grades. I enjoyed his class.
This class was one of the most difficult classes I have ever took, but one of the best. If you take this class you have to work hard very hard and my tip is to listen to the podcasts they are a huge help. I think most people focus on that Gennari makes the class difficult and can be arrogant at times but the bottom line is he wants you to learn.
Great guy. He helped me more then any other proffesor in college. However, he also helped me in life. Although the class is pretty tough, he'll help you have a good time and enjoy learning. I seriously, seriously reccomend taking his class.
Took this professor for summer courses. I visited this website and was terrified of the course. The truth? If you're not intelligent and imaginative, you'll likely get a C. I did well in his class because I tried to be creative with my answers. He is very straightforward and generally very willing to help. I would say he is the best professor at CC
I CAN'T BELIEVE THE REMARKS THAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THIS PROFESSOR. PROF. GENNARI IS THE BEST HISTORY TEACHER YOU COULD MEET.HIS LECTURING MAY BE A LOT BUT IT IS UP TO THE STUDENT TO DO THE WORK. HE WAS EXCELLENT, MAYBE THE STUDENTS NEED TO READ, STUDY, AND LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES AN WRITE THE NOTES.IF NOT THEN YOU WILL FAIL. JUST HAVE TO STUDY
He's not bad at teaching, but his tests are not relevant to what he is teaching AT ALL!!! You only get 3 tests, and map quizzes. I read the book from front to back, and i still got a D. His tests ask you to create your own civilization... what the hell does that have to do with what hes teaching? please someone tell me
there are 3 parts to this class. lectures, quizzes, and tests. the lectures can be informative and fun most of the time. the quizzes are so easy as long as you do the review questions he gives you which can be done the night before no problem. the tests are impossible. theyre half factual half opinionated. to get an A on a test you must write 5 pgs
This teacher treats his students like children. He has everyone make name tags for their desk He also uses the gold star system but with note cards. You get a note card if you answer a question right. He gives quizzes then teaches the material. His test are impossible you have to come up with 900 words in 50 minutes .He is trying to prove something
Gennari's the man. He knows what he's talking about. We always end up with a laugh every class, and he relates history topics to stuff we can relate to. But it does require a lot of thinking if you're willing to put in the work.
The professor does give out hard tests, agreed. I truly believe he is trying to help his students, he is very straightforward. He tells you from the jump to drop the class if your not serious. You WILL NOT cruise through this one!!!!
I was very nervous at the begining of the class. He does give fair warning that his tests are challenging. I struggled on the first quiz, than realized if you complete the study guides it is everything on the quizes. His classes are fun and thought provoking, awesome teacher. I reccomend him to everyone!
total tool. dropping class. treats students like children, preaches like he is the decon of the church. def has control issues. do not take his class or you'll be sorry.
This is not a "13th grade" class. You will have to actually work for your grade, unlike some other classes. A few people thought he was a "tool", but I think he is just passionate about history and detests students that try to float through their education without actually learning anything. So, if you are one of these students don't take the class.
Gennari, is a very intelligent man. Even if you aren't particularly interest in history, his course and lectures will somehow instill an interest in you. He wants you to learn and incorporate analysis into your life. Listen to what the fellow says and I guarantee you will learn something.
Professor Gennari has made an accomplishment by actually causing me to take an interest in History. He relates topics in the class to situations that the students may have been through. He's funny, brilliant, and not to mention, a doll! My favorite professor.
really good professor, relates topics to present day issues we can understand. helpful and funny, one of my favorites.
I think he's a very intelligent man. He wants you to learn a thing or two and apply critical thinking in various areas. Just work hard. I suggest taking him. He's quite entertaining. ;)
Professor Gennari is a very intelligent stud. He keeps you interested in the class and he always keeps you on your toes. If you get an A in his class it's because you've earned it. Though its not an easy grade, I thorougly enjoyed his class and will miss him :)
I had Professor Gennari for two semesters, and he is my favorite teacher. He's hilarious as well! Not too hard on the eyes, either. His classes are hard but very entertaining. You'll do well if you're not a bum. He just wants you to think, that's all! ;)
If you like to think, you'll like this class. I actually got C's on all his essay tests, but got A's on all the quizzes (by the way handouts = answers to the quizzes). I ended up with an A, but I actually participated in class which he really takes into consideration. We had about 40 some students and I was 1 of maybe 5 or consistently participated
He is easy if u study the quiz n the test, good thing is u get the quiz n test before hand, so u know what 2 study for. He if fairly easy compare to other world civ teacher. he is funny. take alot of notes n u will be fine.
For the Spring 2011 Honors course, he did not give out any weekly quizzes. Our only grades were three essay test, participation, an essay, a self-evaluation, and a group presentation were we had to try to "fix the US budget". He is an AWESOME teacher, but can be a tough grader. I definitely learned more in this class than I ever have in History.
best professor ever! keeps attention during class. just write notes; not just the outlines. you only use the textbook for quizzes. he makes paying attention and participating fun!
He actually makes history fun. The information is easy and he is HOT also so that helps:)
My favorite professor of college and one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. His class isn't easy but even though it's not easy I still can't wait to go to his class. You not only learn about history but he teaches you life lessons. I feel like I am better as a person after having his class.
This teacher is the best. His test are kinda hard but the quizzes are super easy if you study and all the answers are all in the textbook. He is a tough grader because he wants opinions and facts not just word from word what you studied. Definitely my favorite teacher.
Initially, I didnt like him too much. Hated that the tests were essays. He decided to not teach the lesson one day and spent the whole class explaining to us how to write a good essay. He wants his students to work hard to be successful. Now I realize this. He's funny & I guess the class isnt as bad as I thought.
Excellente!!! He is the best history teacher that I had at the college, he really makes history fun , he cares about personal and intellectual development. Very smart guy and also with a great background , He is fair with the grades; if you want to pass his course , you have to work hard and think outside the box, not easy at all!
Really cool dude. Really down to earth & utilizes technology to reach out to his students. Lectures are fun & interesting. Quiz's & essay tests are available on his website to study. I disliked the essay question tests, he wants the student to create a unique and somewhat farfetched narrative. However, he truly wants all his students to do well.
Gennari is not an ordinary history professor. At many times, Gennari will go off track during his lessons, often speaking about unrelated class topics? which gives students the idea that he's an uncaring and non-serious goofball, but he will always find a way to link his mindless in-class ramblings to the history that he teaches; take him.
this professor doesn't know what he is doing. he expects his students knows everything even he didn't teach. on the quiz i have the correct answer based on the book but he got marked it wrong. drop his class or you'll be sorry. his essay test is impossible.
this man is truly a genius. he cares about each of his students as long as you try. his test are hard, but if you try you won't fail. he really knows what he is talking about and wants everyone to understand it. he loves history and movies. this man is the best! take him!
didn't like this professor at all. his tests are impossible. I tried extremely hard and studied for hours and got a low D on both of his tests. he is an unfair grader and often goes off topic in class. quizzes are easy but they don't hold a high percentage of your final grade. I do not recommend taking him for world civ 101. I
The most interesting professor I have ever had. He knows his stuff and can keep a captivated audience. The exams however are very difficult, it is nearly impossible to get an A in his class. If you don't mind a C, take this class!
Excitng, innovative makes an 8am class worth going to. His test are difficult but once you simply just answer the question it get simpler. He loves what he does and makes you want o learn what he is teaching..Fresh and motivating..
Best class ever! Thanks for everything Dr. Fab!
Gennari is the worst teacher I've ever had. It's clear that HE knows what he's talking about, but his ability to relay that to students is terrible. He relys far too much on his website for disseminating assignments, and it is impossible to please him on open ended tests. It seems evident his doctorate has gone to his head.
I'm an honor student who loves history. This prof. made me want to withdraw, he's absolutely unclear on what he wants on the essay tests -give the answer= fail, bs the whole thing=fail, study=fail, do not=fail. Impossible! He's more interested in being friends with his students than teaching. Avoid at all costs, except if you're up for a low GPA.
His classes definitely are not easy, but he provides every resource needed. Every test/quiz question is on his website, as well as the audiocasts(which help a lot). The thing with the essays is he just wants you to be able to explain what happened, not just memorize the notes. I definitely recommend this professor.
Do not take his class, otherwise you will regret for sure. He is just impossible.
LOVED these classes, Prof G is terrific! 7week classes are intense, but interesting! His audiocasts are far better than the textbooks. I struggled with the tests, but he was very patient with my extensive questions. If you need help ASK! He is very accommodating when a student puts forth the effort. Don't be disrespectful in class. Duh, people!
Tests very hard because he doesn't want material from the book , so how I can better prepare my self for test :
A prof who clearly loves history, is very patient with first year students. I found him to be very helpful, although not as clear as I would have liked, but helped me whenever I asked questions. You reap what you sow, SO PUT IN THE EFFORT and you will be graded accordingly! Put the cell phones away while you're in class, duh people.
This Professor knos what he is talking about but answers for quiz marked wrong
Very, very nice. Passionate about what he teaches...very nice. Mentioned Harry Potter a few times in class. Challenging but not hard. Essay tests. Would recommend!
Hard to adjust to a 5 week course with his expected layout for essays, but with hard work, outlining, and patience, you will do fine. If you are struggling: SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO TALK TO HIM AND FOLLOW HIS ADVICE. You must work for your grade and prove to him that you are adapting and understanding his expectations of the work load. STUDY!
I don't know man, I'm a history major. Most people don't like sitting through history lectures, so he's good for making it bearable I guess. But I want to learn something. I'm in class, not a comedy club. And his tests are are a little much for only being a 101 class.
not understanding why this class is a requirement to select for a nursing major. horrible at giving understandable notes in order to study for his dumbass essay question tests. doesn't respond to emails. i regret not dropping this class when i had to chance.
he is a very good teacher.I highly recommended
He is an excellent professor! Probably one of my favorites, it is a lecture course and he is very energetic and lively making the 2 and a half hours bearable.
Great teacher brought the love of history out in me again he is smart and passionate about what he teaches and wants you to learn and have fun learning one of my all time favorite professors
No interest in this b4 I took class..now I'm hooked. He is funny, extremely smart, very willing to help u get a better grade. You must work for grade. He uses relative examples and he is funny. Participate, ask ?'s and pick his brain for help. I love class. If u don't want 2 challenge urself don't go 2 his class. Otherwise prepare to learn!
This was a very hard class. If I put in my 100% i think i still would of ended up with nothing more than a C. I was working and taing tree other hard c, classes so I had to drop. If you want to not have a life for a semester, take him. If you are tasking other hard classes I would not suggest taking this one during the same semester.
If you are not a history person, do NOT take this class. Participation is everything. & If you don't know about history, you will not be able to participate -__- his class isn't impossible, it is impossible to get higher than a c though. his essay test are just very unclear.
He is the worse professor I had. He's very cocky. When you ask him questions he will embarrass you infront of the class. He grade hard, cant get higher than a "c"! Very unorganized professor, he doesnt desire a full-time postion at ccc. He cant teach at all. AVOID this guy seriously! !!
Teacher is the worst he isn't looking for correct answers to his essay he just wants you to laugh at his rudeness and crudeness all talks about is sex and intimacy. Totally inappropriate and unprofessional. His lectures that are off topic every class is about sex and dating not good he will ruin your gpa do not take him if you want to learn history
This teacher is not looking for the correct answer, it is impossible to please him even when you ask and give him what he says you still do not do well lectures off topic all about sex, dating and more sex. He is very rude, crude and arrogant you will not get higher than a c and your gpa will be ruined unless you laugh at sex jokes
I was dreading this class and ended up LOVING it. He made the class very interesting although at times went a little overboard with the sexual references. He is clear on what he expects and goes as far as to give a sample essay of what he is looking for. AWESOME PROFESSOR!
I took world civ 1&2. Best class ever. He engaging, funny, and a great guy. Others found is class hard but really he gives you everything you need for test in his lectures. He even lets you use a notecard on test for extra help. I got an A in both of his classes and wish he taught more classes at CCC.
Classes were always fun. If you showed up to class and participated you could not fail. Taught you to think analytically rather than just reciting dates and facts. exams were difficult, but made you think and prepare for them. barely even used text book, but lectures were meant to keep your attention. definitely recommend Professor Gennari
Professor Gennari taught you to think analytically rather than just reciting dates and facts. Exams were difficult, but they made you think and prepare for them. The lectures are meant to keep your attention. He encourages you to participate in class. I would definitely recommend Professor Gennari. Report this rating
he is amazing. i LOVED class. no, it's not an easy A, but this is college. I dreaded this as my 1st summer CCC class and now I wish he was teaching at my university. His lectures are engaging & he uses funny and relatable examples & analogies. He is extremely clear (gives sample essay answer) and lets you use a notecard for the exam. take him!
I only cared about US history before I took World Civ.. I wish he was teaching another summer class because he has me hooked. If you take good notes (including his examples that aren't on the slides), you'll be fine for the exam. You can use a note card! Class is fun and engaging and he makes boring topics and time periods interesting. Great prof!
I took Professor Gennari's class 2 semesters ago and I still think of him in comparison to my other teachers. He was the best teacher and if he knows you are working hard he will work with you. He is engaging and funny. He should teach literature and combine history with it. I feel he set a high standard of learning for me.
Professor Gennari is the worst professor I have ever had. He will call on you if you do not participate and seems to enjoy singling out his students. For the final, he makes you come to his office to have a "conversation" about a topic you pick from a hat and grades you on your knowledge of it. He is arrogant and rude and no answer if good enough.
Professor Gennari gives his lessons efficiently. However his essay exams can be a little intimidating because he is a tough grader. I took his 7 week class (which was a little fast paced) and your class grade was based on your exam grades and participation. Be prepared to do a little research yourself for the essay exams. Participation is a must!
Prof. Gennari has a raunchy humor and uses it often. Once you get past that get ready to laugh! Also take a lot of notes, his slides don't even tell half of what he wants. If you want to pass know more than what he tells you and make complex connections. If you do that then you will get an A. It is a bit of a time consuming class.
Loved Dr. Gennari! Very interesting lectures and fun classes. Slightly weird, but hey, who isn't? Participate and you'll go far! Easy and informative!
He has lectures to listen to but some do not give out enough information for the tests. If you are not a good writer and do not think you can write a paper with little Information that he gives you in 3 hours, do not take his class!!
Not sure what this instructor wants. His lectures go off topic, the test questions are very broad and he does not once specify what he expects on a test. He requires you to "cite where you learned this" but the only sources are the textbook and the lectures. I thought the purpose of a class was you teach me, and test me on what I learned
Fun professor. Lectures are the best. He has fun while teaching. Best professor so far.
makes you think analytically, defend your answers, cite your evidence. made me a better thinker. introduced me to stuff I didn't know existed: foucault, ovid, gibbon, shelly, aristotle, cherry springs park. As a gay man I needed to hear that the spartans encouraged same-sex relations and were the best army in greece, made me feel important.
Don't understand people's complaint that you can't get an A. I got an A - other people got an A. did you go to office hours? prep your essays ahead of time? tests have plenty of comments on them - did you adapt to them. he wants students to think not just repeat stuff. if you want high school take someone else - you want college take gennari
Do not walk into this class thinking its an easy A. He makes you work for your grades and the tests seem hard, but they are much more simple than they seem. If you struggle, go to office hours. He will sit as long as he can, and walk you right into the answers. I will absolutely be taking his course for 102!
Professor is fine. Runs a professional class, expects you to do professional work. Problem is the students. Had a woman who threw a fit in class because she wouldn't put her cellphone away (no phones in syllabus), another one got belligerent because SHE fell asleep in class and he asked her not wake up. Real professor at school of amateurs
better than anyone i had at temple. CCC is lucky to have him, he should be somewhere with real students. he runs a real class with real work. tests aren't MC think mini-research papers - need to prepare not study for them. most students only care about grade, dont see what theyve got - an awesome professor who is far better than they deserve
His lectures are insightful and thought-provoking, but always light and humorous as well. His quizzes are easy and straightforward (questions are provided ahead of time on his own website). The tests are definitely challenging, but he is always willing to help. I can't say enough about how great his teaching is, must take!
Bad attitude . No respectable to student.
A+ prof. Don't listen to the haters. I'm in Silicon Valley and they have no idea what a great resource he is. God, the coin he could make out here. did you go to office hours? Why not? did you prep your tests? No? what did you do for 5 wks? ask questions in class? read text? listen to podcasts? no? then how good of a student were you? he's great
His lectures are intriguing & his participation system keeps you involved. He makes podcasts which are available to listen to while studying . HOWEVER, his grading on all essays is TOUGH. He asks for more detail but then penalizes you on the next essay for giving too much detail. I got a B in the class but failed almost all his essay tests.
I love Pro Gennari! His lectures are awesome! He's very nice and hilarious! Also he's very organized. He has his own website where he displays all the information you need, minus the lecture slides. He even provides audio lectures that you can more information, or if you missed a class. Participantion is a must, quizzes are easy, hard test grader
Professor Gennari was fantastic! Lectures in a way that keeps you interested & able to understand history. His lectures are hilarious & kept my attention, & he gives plenty of resources to help you succeed (extra credit, audio lectures/essay prompts always online). Grades tough, but if you work for it and take lots of notes, you can pass easily.
One of the best professors I've ever had! He's incredibly knowledgeable & presents the material in a fun, interactive, & comprehensive way. He's absolutely freakin hilarious, energetic, & encourages questions. I learned so much in his 101 that I purposely took his 102 class purely for my own pleasure & encourage you to take him no matter your major
The first day of class he made it be known that he is smarter than all of us. Last day of class, let's us know that if we have questions about our final grade to contact him immediately because he has more important things to do in Europe. I never missed a class/work/tests. Did extra credit, and passed all quizzes exceptionally. I got a C.
I personally loved his class but it's not an easy class to pass. He gives you his website which has all the test quizzes and lectures to study from. Remember his tests are mainly about explaining what happend and analyzin why it happened. He makes the subjects interesting and connects it with current events. Also participation is a must
only issue i had with gennari was his lecture notes being somewhat confusing other than that he had a very enjoyable, interesting class can tell he is passionate about his craft
Great
Great professor. He has a cool and hip way of translating some of his lectures. Very qualified. Has a doctorate and wrote a book. his quizes are online you have to study the questions and memorize it. The tests are definitely harder. Easy B
As an RN this class was very important. I just didnt know it then. I'm sorry for all the mean things I said and thought about him. He's not teaching a HIS course as much as teaching you how to think. I have to analytically think every day. I ask "Why" 50x a day. why, why why. this course taught me to ask why and not just repeat. sorry prof.
He's a great resource. but you have to know what you have. 30 hours of lectures online, office hrs and comes in on off days to meet, he gives test Q out wks ahead. Use him. you have to be active learner not a passive sponge. he IS smarter than u, dude, so you cant BS him, and research in europe is what good eur. his. profs do. explains your D.
OMG! I went to one of his special lectures outside of class and he knew everything. he talked about the histories of 12 different countries, 4 religions, 8 ethnic grps, wars ancient and modern. you have no idea what he is capable of. he's playing down to us. ur neg. rating says more about u than him. didnt realize what I had. use him dude is right.
Loved this class. Expect to participate a lot if you expect to be on his good side. Also be prepared for his tests. His grading is brutal.
Dude gave me my first C, and devastated my life but i fixed it. he gives so many resources on his site (audios!!!) so definitely use them. highly recommend getting a study group too, and making sure for the first test you see him during his office hours(take notes while he talks LMAO) hes a tool but i learned a lot and i respect him.
Professor Gennari is an awesome teacher. I enjoyed the class and his lectures.
At first I was like what did I get myself into, but he is crazy hilarious. I never thought I would laugh in a history class. I do not like history what so ever, but he made it fun and enjoyable. Grading is really hard does not want you to recite back the notes and wants you to give more information.
Just pick a different professor for history. No matter how hard you study, you will probably get poor grades on his tests because they are all subjective and his grading criteria is unclear. I hit all the points on my tests and somehow always ended up with C's on the tests. Somehow I ended up with an A... its not worth the stress.
AVOID HIM!!!!! ESPECIALLY ONLINE!!! HIS AUDIO LECTURES ARE HORRIBLE AND ARE SO LONG!!!!
i truly recommend anyone who want to take his class. drop it immidiately because he require participation, write essay for a test and grade it very strictly.
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS. He expects you to write 5 essays at least 1000 words each for three tests. You turn 1 of the 5 essays in on test day. This work load is not practical. On top of all of the work he is a very tough grader. Do not expect to learn anything in this class.
He is a great teacher. He is hilarious and very knowledgable. Unfortunately, the class is hard. He grades the essays very harshly . got a D and barely passed even when i was acing the quizes, the essays killed me.
Worst professor I've ever had. I took his class online and no matter how well you think you know the material, it's useless. He grades your essay exams as if its an English class. My GPA has now dropped from a class that shouldn't have been so hard and isn't even related to my major. His online lectures are terrible. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Frankly, i hated this guy from the first class. However, if you can put in the required effort(a lot of it), you can get an A. Hes funny, but hard to follow. Follow his directions on his tests! Listen to the audios online, read the book... Only write what he talks about. See him in his office hours! He's really not as evil as he seems.
It is simple to describe his class. If you want a hilarious and knowledgeable history professor, he is the one. But if you want to get an A for this class, you need to work your a.s.s off. His essay tests are the hardest tests i've ever seen. Merely taking notes is not enough for his test. Also, his course is hot because the time is good.
His classes are hot mostly because the time is good. Despite it, his class is extremely hard. The things he talks about on class are different from his recorded lectures and the textbook. He only gives you points on tests if you write down the things he mentions during classes, so notes are very important. NOT RECOMMENDED.
He's mean at first but you'll soon realize that hes actually a decent guy.
People complain all the time about his classes. If you put effort in and care then it is not super hard. If you bull crap you fail very simple.
Difficulty is artificial at best; offsets extremely easy quizzes with tests too subjective to do well on. Doesn't believe in number grades or care if students just barely pass and mess up their GPA or, doesn't live in the real world. Lectures and textbook too vague to fulfill inconsistently graded test criteria, doesn't allow outside citations.
Do not take this professor! At first it didn't seem so bad. The first couple quizzes I took were easy and almost word for word right out of the book. Then I took one of his tests and thought I did a great job, thinking I got an A. NOPE! C! His tests are absolutely ridiculous and if I had more space I would gladly go into detail.
Egotistical and sadistic. Impossible to please with the test essays. A deficit to CCCs History Department - no wonder students drop out of this school. Quizzes are easy and he seems likeable at first; then, he nails students with essay tests that are impossible to please him - very subjective. Must be compensating for something - stay away!
Very frustrating professor -- picky about what constitutes as correct in his book, very arbitrary rules, impatient, difficult to follow in class. Entertaining lectures and he is obviously brilliant, and I got an A after seeing him in his office repeatedly, but i don't recommend him
guys. he tells you a few thing right up front. 1. if you "need an A" take someone else - it is right there in the syllabus (bet you didnt read it, did you) 2. he is getting you ready for higher level college and a 100,000$ year job. he asks, why does it matter? for you to explain your answer. only hard if you expect life to be multiple choice.
amazing how many ppl miss the point of the class. it is like thinking the pushups are the important part of basic training. the test is where the learning happens. youll never use Plato again. but constructing an explanation & defending it? all the time. his grading is to ask questions (why? so?). if you had it, he wouldnt ask. makes you think.
I got a C so, here's a really negative review. No, I was aiming for a C (got a higher grade surprisingly) because I worked overnights and didn't really want to do anything during the day but sleep. Decent course and yes, the essays were a pain to type up. In short, the amount of effort you put into this class is what you'll get as a grade.
I just finished up Professor Gennari's online World Civ class this summer. I have to say, it was informing, entertaining, and at times funny. Audio lectures are to the point, adaptable and enjoyable. Your grade is based on your effort. Listen to all lectures and take notes and read. He communicates well through email and seems very nice. AWESOME!
jerk. he makes due dates and then expects ppl to hand in stuff by those dates. he thinks hes at some real school. ive been at CCC for 6 years - he didnt even give me an A even though i almost submitted like 3 or 4 tests. when i become a teacher im gonna have no due dates. and vacation weeks where kids dont have to come to class. and no homework
Professor Gennari has a awesome way of teaching and he's funny, and cute to. As long as you listen to lectures and pay attention you will do great
I was doing wonderful in his class, after todays essay exam I am NOT! I studyed 3 of the essays but the 1 I studied the most on India an China geographies was NOT on the exam. I choose question #3 and hope that I have enough of the information he was looking 4 that give me a passing grade. I was very happy on 1st exam with my 85 but this was harder.
His lectures are difficult too follow. He has an interest in music and the music I play. The time he talks about playing and practicing he should be informing us on what matters for the difficult essay exams. David is important but to me but other people in class really seem less interested. I would hope that the Final exam is in class discussions.
Prof is a hard teacher but if you pay attention in his class, you will be more than fine. He gives interesting lectures, that you can't not pay attention to because you are laughing the entire time. He makes class a lot more enjoyable. As long as you make an effort, he is there to help you and will prove extra help.
I would rather be listening to music instead of his highly opinionated lectures! I sit in the back of the classroom and he seems to call on everyone but me. It has been very difficult getting a passing grade on his exams because he goes on about useless information that I space out and totally forget what we were supposed to be talking about.
I am a very quite student. It is hard to speak up in a class when what you interprit is wrong in his eyes. I feel that the only way 2 get a passing grade on his exams is by having his opinions on life. Heaven for me is not Ethen. It is what we dont know about because we were never there. no clue whats an ether anyways. to pass him act like him
Great stuff!
reading these responses is like reading a different person. tests are not about opinions but about reasoned positions, rubric facts. his lectures using analogies to try to make plato relevant why do you not get what an analogy is? is a class only powerpoints? stop "no 1 gets an A" of course they do. office hours? did u go? did u change?
i think many of the july "awful" ones are fake, the same semi-literate person. driving dwn numbers. good job 3 essay tests. you need facts + explanations+examples. like in a real job. test study guide - day 1 lecture podcasts - 30+ hrs. who else does this? office hrs. + email + A work gets an A (has test models to study) what more do you want?
why are you in college? is it to rewrite powerpoints or have things explained. if you want the latter, he's great. the whole point of the class is to think, question, analyze, probe. go elsewhere if you want to mindlessly repeat words. he tells u how to improve. he's pro-you. keeps it real. but be honest w/ urself. was that really ur best work?
Lot's of people on these ratings say getting an A in this class is nearly impossible. I took the 5 week summer course and although he graded the (all essay) tests a bit harshly, I was able to pull out an A for my final grade, even though I'm pretty sure I did awful on the final essay. This class is fun and he is a cool guy to talk to. I recommend:)
Professor Gennari was an exceptionally great teacher. This was the first class I've taken in college that I actually looked forward to each day on top of that, there wasn't ever a day I wasn't smiling! Yes it's hard, I studied non stop on the essays but didn't get the grades I wanted but still pulled out alright, just do it and try harder! EXPLAIN!
The 5 wk summer class was very difficult. The lectures were full of information from the past and how it relates 2 our yng lives today. It was hard 4 me 2 get a B. Its a lot of studyin 4 essays. I got good grades by adding my life examples, using silly class examples, using book info, and online material. He loves you 2 ask questions.
The women of this class made us get side tracked. They wanted to learn about love, music, and anything but essay material. The professor was good about including their needs with the syllabus requirements. I myself found it easier 2 answer his questions then listen 2 them. My aide meet with me so I got a 90 on all essays. Explain/ put u into it
talks about everything - answers questions. doesnt talk about "sex" he talked about patriarchy, feminism, definitions of masculinity, LGBT in history, marriage, youth issues, and philosophers like foucault and freud. how can u hear all of this and so miss the point? hes your man for adult learning and topics want middle school? go elsewhere.
The professor takes the time 2 get 2 know the students. He finds out your interests then includes them in the lessons. Its a fun class! Its easy 2 write 4 exams because you can relate 2 material/make it your own. He has power points, podcasts, office hours, and study guides 4 exams. This class is so much fun the #1 essays were always on exams.
This class is so much fun! I was able 2 remember information on Assaryians / Persians, the Greek / Roman militaries, and also the trauma upon Byzantine / Arabic Islam. You recall info because the funny examples used in class. I found the essays easy 2 get an A include class funny stories, podcasts points, text book info and a little of me.
He makes podcasts of lectures. he made video lectures for HIS 102, he will meet at cherry hill to discuss your essay for an hour on a random wednesday. what more can you ask for. his essay comments are correct. he asks questions (why?, how do you know? so?) to highlight points we're missing. and he's right and honest. he's there for us.
Dr Gennari is an enthusiastic lecturer who made class interesting and fun. He encourages participation and counts it as a significant part of your grade. You will not get a good grade for just showing up. You will need to put in effort. He does however make clear what is needed to do well. He is extremely accessible. His pod casts were a big help.
3 essay exams. study questions beforehand. have to prep your stuff. website with all materials. podcasts lectures. new video lectures. office hours will meet most days and spend lots of time on any questions/work you have. he's woke. an ally. a safe space. an intellectual partner for serious students. what more can you want?
Entirely lecture class, but he makes the lectures really engaging and even entertaining rather than something to fall asleep to. 3 essay tests, very detail oriented grading, but you do get the questions WAY ahead of time.
I HOPE REALLY ENJOYED THE TIME IN HIS CLASS WISH I HAD HIM 4 102 CAUSE PARTICIPATION MEANS NOTHING WHERE IM AT NOW. He took time after class 2 help me answer essay exam questions, reviewed b4 class and helped me learn 2 balance work, studying and fun. He also gave me relationship advice. He cares. Although I'm Jewish he still valued my beliefs.
Hes really funny but a tough grader and you only get 4 tests. His lectures are good but soooooo boring. I barely went to class and got a B so you should be fine if you study his material.
This class was fun He makes info available 4 you 2 pass, podcasts, power points and reviews material from previous class. He is available 4 help b4 and after class. He cares about u learning and wants you 2 succeed well beyond CCC. If u get him u will enjoy learning in class and when its over you will wish you could have more time 2 spend with him
If you want 2 enjoy learning history take him He cares and takes the time to teach the information to you When you take his essay exams you will recall information needed because he reviews it in lectures and makes it relatable to you. I recommend answering his questions and being an active listener in class. Read, listen 2 podcast participate.
Awesome guy. Never a dull moment in his class. He made it bearable, as well as audio lectures were available if you missed class which was awesome. Hes definitely on top of things. If you participate consistently, and do decent on tests you wont have a problem getting a B.
I guess all history classes require essay exams. It does not matter how long your essay is, he will still dig it apart and let you know what you did and did not do. I loved the audio/videolectures. I was able to listen to them a million times. Do what your told and you will pass but 3 hours to type an essay for an exam grade for me was difficult.
I learned that 1000 word essays do NOT guarantee an A. I learned that 3 exams in 5 weeks is an amazing thing, I get bored fast. His quizzes are pretty much A's that are handed to you. He does not give back the last test. I was kind of bummed. I appreciate this class. I took it January to February. I advise that those who get bored fast do the same.
Toughest grader who goes off an unclear rubric. Sends ridiculous emails which turn into bizarre tangents. With the way he grades you think he could get to the point in an email. Lectures consist of long pauses and thoughtless, borderline derogatory humor. Seems like a guy who wants you to complain about him to the school so he can "outsmart" you.
A tough but fair teacher. Very passionate about his subject. Unlike a lot of CCC teachers, he makes you work for your grade. There is no faking it in his class. Very opinionated, sometimes sarcastic. Extremely knowledgeable and willing to help you assuming you are giving 100%. His podcasts are great resources in & out of class.
A tough grader but will talk to you about what you can change to get a better grade. Very passionate about the subject and makes his lectures enjoyable. Not a huge history person but his lectures are given in a way where I wanted to keep listening. He does do all online quizzes and tests for his102 so wouldn't recommend if thats not your thing.
I have to say this class was not as easy as I thought it was going to be, however; in my opinion, he is fare and will help you if you need it. You must put in the work and stay on top of your assignments to get a good grade in his class. As others have said, he is a tough grader but its because he wants you to think about the topics.
Put you in your essay exams, participate and study your notes. Make the material relateable to today. Let him know u value his class lectures quote him on essays. Ask 4 help and listen to the podcast. He wants u to be u so personalize your exams and have fun. He wants u to learn and succeed
I never liked history until I took his class! he makes it fun, engaging, relatable and funny. He is a tough grader and requires you to think. He values class partition greatly and will make that VERY clear! I would highly recommend this professor but don't think this class will be an essay A:) GOOD LUCK!
Professor Gennari in my opinion wasn't too bad. I took his class online and it just consisted of multiple quizzes and 3 exams. Lectures were a bit long but he related the material to real life and has some humor. Only thing that bothered me was when I studied for a test question that isn't on the final choices. He give 5 and we have to choose 1.
His video lectures are offensive!!! The exams are essays about the chapters. He gives you 5 questions and out of them 3 will be an option to choose 1 to write about. He grades thinking he's an English teacher. I always had A papers and he gave me C's. Horrible teacher. Take him if your happy settling with a C grade.
Speaks flippantly and offensively about topics and people groups that are sensitive and should be handled more professionally. I do not believe these things cannot be discussed in the classroom, but at least be a little more sensitive & professional about it and realize that not everybody shares your opinion.
reading these responses more about the student than the prof. no question on the exam? didnt study three questions (like he said to do) offensive? he doesn't say stuff I agree 100% with (you try talking about gender, racism, sexism, religion and slavery w/ 100% likes) must do lectures online student thought they could avoid class.
No doubt he is one of the hardest professor I ever had but also the best. He's good and love what he is doing. He put a lot of time and effort to bring the best out of his student. I'm an straight A student but it's 2/3 of the semester and I don't think that I would get an A for this class. However, I don't regret taking him and I would do it again
really fun interesting class, very nice professor he keeps you entertained all class
Amazing professor! Very funny and will keep you entertained all class. However, he does have high expectations for his tests so it is important for a student to pay attention in lecture and read the chapters. In the beginning of the semester he made the class seem way harder than it was. He made history interesting!
He is an incredibly tough grader but his lectures are hysterical. He is available to go over things and it seems like he truly cares. I hope to take his other classes for fun In spite of the hard grading. He really makes you think outside the box.
It's easy to see how Dr. Gennari can rub people the wrong way, but his lecture series is incredible and despite having high standards, he isn't unreasonable. His online class especially is weighted heavily towards test grades (75% of your grade comes from three one-essay exams) and he's a tough grader. You'l work for a good grade in this class.
If you take his online classes, you relying mostly on lectures via podcasts and fact finding in the textbook. DO NOT SKIP VIDEOS!! Also you have to know the difference between analyzing and summarizing a piece of history, I learned that the hard way with lots of critique.
Dr. Gennari is an amazing Professor. His class does what all History classes attempt to do, make history come alive for those studying it, and it succeeds. The lectures are dripping with information and character. Most importantly Dr. Gennari is able to instill in his students a deep desire to overcome their only true competition, themselves.
It wasn't an easy A, but a rewarding one. He makes history enjoyable and comprehensible. He is down to earth and has no problem finding time to help students just as long as they're willing to put in TIME AND EFFORT to succeed. WATCH HIS VIDEOS ONLINE, CREATE WRITTEN OUTLINES, PARTICIPATE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS BEFORE TESTS!!!
He is encouraging. Take good notes, record lectures, tell your story in essays to make them unique. History is helpful to your future. Ask questions it gives u extra credit.
This class is terrible. Currently taking his online Civ101 class. The videos for the lectures are so long. He doesnt open the tests until three days before the tests are due. Do not take him. His lecture videos are hours long.
If you want to have fun learning history take him. He helped us relate to yesterday by relating to us. Tell your story in essays make them unique. Ask a ton of questions. He gives extra credit when u ask him things. Let him know how u feel about each topic and tell him that it still impacts what we do each day.
I hope wish he taught other classes. He made me believe in myself and helped me know how history and my life are related. Ask a ton of questions and let him know about u when writing essays. How the fighting effects your life today and what u can learn from past war strategy. I learned preparation, and lack of fear and wrote about essays about it.
Professor Gennari used podcasts and textbook material for his assignments. Easy to follow along but tough to get a high grade on his tests. Still passed and was able to openly communicate. Even admired his effort to raise awareness for mental health
Took him for online history 1 and 2. Very easy class. Watch the lectures and read the book, easy A
I had the most informal testing environment. He was very helpful and he is very awesome. Professor Gennari is the best professor you will ever have. I recommend that you take this professor. I would take him again. He gives you what you need for the exams and more.
NO CELL PHONES! PERIOD! Take it outside of the classroom. Caring. Wants students to achieve in school and in life.
He was very helpful and definitely enjoy his class.
Way to many test and quizzes and barely time to prepare for them . Study guide dont help at all .
I hated this class! This man is the most arrogant man Ive ever met. His lectures are way too long when he states they are 45 minutes for each test. FALSE. His email responses are incredibly rude and disorganized. The way he talks on his lectures makes them extremely long. He is so controlling especially with tests! Worst teacher ever!
not many COVID ratings lectures are online - 45 hours of lectures. thats a 15 week class. like it or not he gives you what you paid for. you have to listen to lecture though not skip around. study guides test your notetaking not you fast forward ability tests are many but small. instead of 1 and huge emails ask "does this help?" at end
thought I'd add my thoughts post-Covid too. first, thought he was great. all the stuff is organized, straight forward, detailed. 2nd, i looked up his sched. he's had 500 students since Covid. only 1 complained here (thats .2%). 3rd I know now what phalanx is and see it @ BLM protests. I see history now. 4th not rude. doesnt take BS/lies. good.
If you need to take a history class, you should take world Civilization with Professor Gennari. Class is well organized. The lectures are all available to you online. Listen to his lectures and you will do very well. Expectations are clear. No surprises. Best online class I have taken at CCC or anywhere else to be honest.
So I took him during this summer session, of course it was fast paced. But if you listen to the podcast/lectures (Which are very long so use your time management wisely) and take good notes while listening to them you will do great on the test. As for quizzes you do have to read the textbook and take good notes there and you should be fine.
Had Dr. Gennari several times & he's AMAZING. Fantastic lectures are relatable & really dig into the "why" of history while showing why it's still relevant today. He can be really funny, too. The sort of teacher who makes you want to learn. & he's always willing to work with students when they need him. 1000/10, wish I could take more classes w him
Professor Gennari tries to make his class as accessible as possible. I can appreciate this, but it creates issues where complex topics are oversimplified into one sentence explanations. eg: Q: Why did the cold war start? A: WW2 Lectures, tests and quizzes are formatted extremely haphazardly, with frequent spelling and historical inaccuracies.
I took this class online due to covid and really enjoyed it compared to my other professors he did very well with the adjustment. The class was well explained and organized
His class is exactly as he describes it, maybe even easier. His lectures may be long but if you take notes, its pretty easy. I would absolutely take his class again!
Dr. Gennari wants you to learn the topics, not just memorize dates and names. Loved the class and learned a lot more than any history class I had ever taken. Watch the lectures, read the text, fill out the study guides he provides, and you will do great!
While he is certainly a tough grader and doesn't hand out A's to everyone, this course was designed in a way that made it difficult to not succeed. The minimum grade you could receive on a test was 50, and he dropped our lowest test grade at the end of the semester. The lectures were also entertaining; you get your money's worth of information.
His lectures online are super long and he babbles on and on and makes it very confusing. He only gave tests and quizzes which made it super difficult to pass. Unless you are able to sit through almost half hour to 40 min lectures of him thinking hes funny I suggest you don't choose him.
(online, no zooms) quizzes were bases on textbook readings and tests were based on hours worth of his podcast. he gives you study guides and test questions straight from them. he is very informative and he wants you to understand and learn about the topics, but it's a little difficult when there is a min. of 6 hrs(of podcast) for one test.
Took this class during winter intersession so it was fast paced. Read a few chapter, watch the given lectures and you take the quizzes and tests every other week. I took this class during COVID so its completely online, but I am definitely looking into 102 with Dr. Gannari.
This lecture is very long, and he gives you too much question to study prepare for test. The time limit for each question about 1 min . If I take HiS 102 in next semester, I will not pick him again.
Online during COVID i dont understand the ppl with "lectures super long" - umm, its college. thats 75min twice a week for 15 weeks. why is a 45min video too long? Can you explain Buddhism in less time? videos, notes, guides, then practice, practice Easy A my 5th grade sister cant believe ppl think this is hard Complainers didnt do the work
I am currently a nursing student and have been at CCC for 3 years... out of all the intense science classes I have taken this history class is the most ridiculous class I have ever taken. Almost 20 hours worth of lecture he expects us to remember. Assigns 3 tests due in one night. This is world civ 101 at a community college, calm down.
I took this class for the 6 week summer semester and I have to say it was extremely easy. All of the quizzes are bases on the textbook readings and tests are based on his lecture videos. If anything, the videos would be 45 minutes to an hour long and you would need to watch about 10 videos for 1 test. But his study guides helped a lot.
Complete all the study guides for tests and quizzes and you will have enough answers to get an A/B on each quiz/test. Lectures can get side tracked but he does well at trying to make up for loss time. class is clear and organized as long as you use resources and try
If you struggle with history please don't take this class. There is no homework which is nice, he gives study guides for quizzes and tests. The quizzes are simple, however, the test study guides are brutal. A million pages and his lectures are long and boring. He goes on tangents and its impossible to find the answers.
Best professor I have ever had. Not only did I learn a lot of interesting material in this course, but I feel Dr. Gennari's discussions in class and lectures have helped me to become a better and smarter person. Not to mention how much he cares about his students and makes us feel very important and valued. Definitely recommend!
I actually enjoyed this class and would take this class again. He does provide you with quiz study guides (based on textbook readings) also test study guides (based on class lectures) lectures can be long and not to mention there are several of them lol but very interesting! He wants you to learn not just memorize the material he teaches.
His class is no assignments, strictly 5 quizzes based on textbook and 3 test based off of his 2hour lectures, 10 plus lectures per test. Test are based strictly on the lectures.
His lectures are awesome, but you have to participate. Tests and quizzes are very fair if you prepare properly for them. My favorite moment in his class is when he showed us data for our ZIP Codes while discussing what SuperZIPs are. I learned something about myself and the world I grew up in that day.
I would not recommend. His videos are very long. You have to closely pay attention and write TONS of notes in your note pad or the handout because you are going to need it on his exams. He talks alot that sometimes it is off topic. He takes history very serious and breaks it down in the videos. This is not an ordinary history that you think!
Dr. Gennaris lectures are really really interesting. Before his class, I had no interest in history because of how it has been taught. However, prof kept me very much interested and wanting to know more. I will say the country in which we live in is something! Thank you Prof for History 101 & 102. Id take it again just for the lectures.
I took this class online. The professor has long podcast. They are long and boring. I had to listen to them over and over again. He does give study guides to help pass the test. However, I couldn't't get through the lectures. I have to retake the class and refuse to take him again.
Very entertaining/great educator. A very rare combination in the realm of higher schooling. He provides a study guide for his quizzes and tests. Anyone with more than 2 braincells can pass this class with an A. Anyone complaining about this course is either mentally handicapped or is so lazy they want the professor to take the course for them.
Note that he is very personal when it comes to religion and ethnicity, he will ask you many questions if you are clearly a POC and he will not stop asking until he gets the answer he wants to make points in his lecture, he also favors women a lot. He's overall a good educator but a little bit creepy. Test heavy and no extra credit available.
The class is lecture-heavy, and you must watch a lengthy podcast to catch up. He said that attendance was mandatory then mid-semester said don't show up if you don't want to. Participation is a must. He an interesting professor that you can learn from but just do the work and participate otherwise will call your class boring/ lecture about success.
If you have a lot of time on your hands, be my guest. There are three tests and six quizzes so there's not much to base your grade on and you absolutely have to listen to all of his lectures. If you have time and like history, he's very knowledgeable, but if you're just trying to check a box like I am, it's grueling.
I loved the way he lectures. He is very entertaining and reviews all test information before hand. I took notes but never needed to study because he reviews the material. If you read the text and take notes it's a fun easy A. on essays tell your opinions and it's guaranteed extra credit. Explain how history applies to your life and it's an A plus.
This is a professor who is super kind however you'll need to learn his sense of humor. Is easily distracted and tends to go of course from his lectures, very often, but makes learning fun by interacting with students. Overall, a great professor, I highly recommend.
I loved this professor! His lectures were captivating and I learned a lot. His class made me realize that learning is more than just passing a test or a quiz. I lost my "A" streak in his class as I finished with a B, but I appreciated his dedication to teaching and eagerness to help me. Hands down my favorite professor so far.
Love his lectures, very engaging when it could be mind numbing
Give respect to get respect kind of guy.
He was a great professor. His lectures were far from boring. His class had two sections to it, the tests were based on the lecture notes and the quizzes were based on the textbook. He provided study guides for every assignment and the study guides matched the assignments so they were very easy if you took good notes.
Professor Gennari was a wonderful History professor. Very clear with what he wanted from you. Classes were lecture heavy, but he gives you a study guide where the question is answered in his notes. Quizzes are more textbook-relied. Only way you don't pass is if you don't participate or pay attention. Genuinely cares about his students.
Condescending attitude towards the students. I paid to listen to you in a classroom, not you advertising your podcast. I took the class before 2020 and even then he wasn't subtle about favoring women or non-white students. When answering a question he'd keep saying "Why?" until you gave an answer that reflects his own personal ideology. A bad prof.
Really enjoyed the way he taught, and made lectures entertaining. Tests/quizzes very easy. However, I didn't enjoy his attitude. Definitely favors women. Picks on men. Throws a temper tantrum and takes it personal if someone is talking/ on their phone, etc. Narcissistic, and always talking about how great he is. Be careful not to hurt his ego.
Absolutely knows his cultures and is happy to talk about anything. The lectures can become incredibly open ended and slightly off topic but he'll always find a way to loop it back to the topic on hand, making it more interesting and relatable. Really serious about people being distracted/on their phones, so just don't do that and you're good
Read the syllabus and you'll be fine. I would advise you to participate in class discussions as it is graded, and he takes it into account. Do the study guides!!! The tests are based on the lectures so I would recommend taking notes. Overall, it's a simple class, he's very straight-forward.
Really smart guy, very straight forward class. Answers emails very quickly and cares about his students. Do well on the tests and quizzes or you wont do well in the class. If you pay attention and take notes you'll be fine.
Please I beg you, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR,YOU WILL CRYYYY!, his test are difficult, he is tough. He answers emails quite alright but it is not tangible, his test questions are horrendous just pick another professor because it was too late for me to drop the class. just don't take him if you are thinking about it
Took this class online, it was a lot of reading, and a lot of lectures to listen to, but I found him very engaging and easy to follow. Do the work and you'll be fine.
Took him for HIS 101 & 102. I was used to his way of teaching, my trick was watch lectures on 1.5x speed, write answers to questions and add more info in class then use those notes to take online quizzes and tests. Passed with A+. Great professor, lecture heavy (boring) so you gotta be smart with it. But definitely easy to pass his class!
Horrible. Huge ego. Vague grading criteria and subjective when grading papers.
Professor's lectures can be long, but engaging if you stay focused. Textbook and study guides were essential for passing the tests. I found unstuckstudy AI a helpful tool alongside other resources like ChatGPT for preparing for exams. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
This professor is absolutely amazing! The way his class is set up is so easy. If you print the study guides and follow along during his lectures you're set. Fantastic lectures. He is extremely knowledgeable and makes history very fun. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend going.
Good lectures, definitely knows what he's talking about. Does go over lecture time and takes a long time to get through one presentation of 10 slides which is annoying.Textbook quizzes are a little difficult. Lecture tets are easy if you take the notes. Willing to help out with any confusions. Overall he's nice and has respect for the students.
Meh. I like history a lot, so I thought it was nice when Professor Gennari described his work in Sweden. Otherwise, he can't write a proper sentence in ANY test or lecture slide. You'll be confused, but he's not horrible to work with. Show up, though. Make sure you participate once in a blue moon. Watch him, not your phone/laptop. He'll like that!
Enjoyed teaching style
By far one of the best professors I have taken he is amazing. There is no way you can fail this class he provides all the necessary information needed to get an A. If you need this class this is the right professor to teach you.
Dr. Gennari is knowledgeable and explains material well, but he's not the best professor. He can be a hothead and struggles to engage students. At times, he came off as sexist and would press students until they gave answers that matched his own views. He's not the worst, but his lack of self-awareness and attitude make the class hard to enjoy.
Very creepy and weird guy always favors the women in the class over the men. I personally dreaded his class he is not a good person all he does is harass women during the class if you are a man and you signed up for world civ make sure you are not his professor. Very sexist teacher not a good person makes satan look like jesus. His work is easy tho
I wish I could take him again his lectures were great. For those on here claiming he is sexist, I guarantee it's because he said something about real world problems when it comes to gender. For my class he didn't favor women, he favored the people that showed up to class and didn't skip all the time. His grading was fine and tests were easy.
Belittling and disrespectful 100% I reached out to him for a simple question and he answered back, by patronizing me about how long it should of taken me to take the test verse how I did. Then tried to make a joke when it was just insulting and unprofessional. Glad I do not have to deal with his undignified self again!!!
Dr. Gennari is an awesome professor! When I first took his class, I wasn't a fan of his teaching style. It took a bit of time to adjust to it, but I'm glad I stuck it out. As someone who is a fan of history classes, there is no one more knowledgeable than Gennari. I had fun, learned a lot, and the workload is manageable.
Hilarious and intriguing lectures. He is very straightforward and will tell you how it is but still understands that his students are human beings. He demands respect but will also give respect unlike many other professors. His tests and quizzes aren't too hard if you read the book and come to class and pay attention. Favorite professor of mine.
