I enjoyed the sociology 1301 class 2011. Take good notes, come to class, and pay attention. Mr. Grice taught in different styles so class was always interesting new and fresh. When he sees you are trying he will try with you. He gives you what you earn. Not a lot of hwork. I highly recommend this class to all. Not boring at all, my class had fun.
Great teacher and easy class. Two papers, a group project, two tests, and 3 quizzes. Only had class one day a week for last half of semester. Awesome class.
Chris is an amazing instructor. Took his class in the fall of 12 and he made sociology fun. Class was never dull or boring. He expects a lot from you in regards to studying for tests, and projects but its only because he wants you to take the class seriously. I wouldn't say he is an easy professor, but he is very fair and helpful.
He's kind of an unusual guy. But has a good heart you can tell. Slightly pretentious. But that's his humor, and its pretty funny. Essays and quizzes are easy. Last quarter of semester we weren't required to attend. Easy Prof. Barely any homework.
This professor is RUDE and DOES NOT help. Through out the class, he gives long lectures and no in-between time to ask questions. When asking questions, he's rude, hateful and refers to the "syllabus" that is INCORRECT! With thus being a 5 week SUMMER class, I definitely expected more support and help during the class.
He is a very odd fellow, sassy and is sometimes spontaneous. I have never seen him angry or harsh to anyone. The only major assignments are 4 short (600 word essays) and one final exam. He is big on getting people to talk to one another, and is up to date with social norms.
Professor Grice is amazing! He makes class fun and interesting. Would recommend this class and professor to anyone and everyone.
Professor Grice is so kind to all of his students. He will work with anyone, they just have to go to him and address their concerns to him. His lectures are never dull. What I like most about him is that he teaches in the here and now. We spoke of current events and it was ok with him if you disagreed with him or vice versa. I would take him again!
Professor Grice's class was progressive and informative. We discussed relative social issues and were truly engaged throughout the semester. His teaching method made it feel as if the students were leading the class, while his detailed syllabus remained poignant and accurate throughout the semester. I'm looking forward to taking more of his courses
He's great at teaching! He knows his material and is always willing to help. I like how open minded he is and how he encouraged his students to become better. His assignments were always material related. He made me want to show up to class, not because it was mandatory but because i really enjoyed his lectures! WOULD TAKE HIS CLASS AGAIN.
Grice is an excellent professor. He's fair, thoughtful, kind, and hilarious. He teaches the material in interesting ways and offers thought provoking lessons. He expects hard work on your part and will always show you respect if you are willing to work hard and show him the same level of respect. Highly recommended and plan on taking again!
Professor Grice is a hilarious individual. He made class interesting and really got you thinking about the different topics covered in sociology. Participation is important in his class. I would definitely recommend this professor to other students.
He is such a cheerful person. I love the way he makes the class very interesting and he wants every single student to participate in class. I recommend everyone to take this professor. I won't guarantee about good grades but you'll surely have good time.
Proff is the reason I changed majors. I took his classes around 2015/2016 and he has a unique and interesting perspective on the civil unrest and racism in this country. I believe he is eloquent and delivers a wealth of knowledge if you engage and participate. I enjoyed the convos he started in class, I wanted to have coffee w/ him!!! Cool Dude!
Dr. Grice used research articles for all the required readings... saved me a lot of money not having to buy a book. He's cool because he's unafraid of challenging you on controversial issues on race, class and gender. Cool Minority Studies course!
I took Minority Studies Spr'17. So far this has been my favorite online class since returning to school. Prof has audio lectures, responds to questions real fast and the required readings were interesting.
I signed up for online in summerII b/c I though it would be easy. Its not hard but its not easy like online classes. Just read the chapters, listen to audio lecture & videos he does, if you want to you can do discussion boards for extra credit (they not required which is cool), do the required assignments . He made it like a on-campus class :-)
Easy class very organized prof. Easyclass!
glad summer is over the instructor taught class like it was a regular semester. i wasn't expecting that but i earned an a cause the requirements are clear and if you need help just ask he responds within the hour (i'm used the 48hour rule) best part of class was the recorded lectures. i didn't like how we always had to cite stuff with evidence
Favorite part was talking about people choosing to be single and the different reasons people cohabitate. Tests were easy. Essays require you to cite but he is quick on feedback. He talks fast so you will have to pause recordings to write. He should have made the discussions required for more interactions though. Overall good.
I liked the class and the teacher was good.
Dr. Grice makes you think about why you are even in college but he gives you the best advice if you decide its something you really want to pursue. His exams are difficult because you have to know the material and can't go by the book or notes alone. Class is fun and interesting, discussions are great. We created our own surveys which was cool.
No book! Favorite part of the class was the articles we read. They were interesting. At first I was nervous about the amount of reading, it would be 3-4 the articles per topic!!! Then I realized the articles were short and we spent multiple weeks learning about the same topic so I wasn't pressured.
Favorite class this semester. He's funny and really smart about stuff going on in society. 3 exams, he dropped one, a major group project/presentation and course assessment (3 essays)
I love Prof. Grice's class.
I went to a lot of prestigious schools and he's easily in the top 4 profs. Funny, caring, extremely woke guy who is always around for office hours to help or chat. You HAVE to attend all the lectures or else you're going to be totally lost when it comes time for a test or paper but they're amazing so you don't want to miss out anyway.
Dr. Grice is easily one of my favorite teachers that I've ever had. It's a relatively easy course, you just have to actually participate and there's some "outside the box" thinking (as it is a sociology course after all). A few written assignments but they weren't very difficult. He wants what's best for his students and is very understanding.
He's a great teacher.
I took Dr. Grice this semester and the class was more difficult than I expected. He does not make a big on whether you attend or not but if you miss class you will miss a bunch of stuff. He posts his PPT online but its not the same as the lecture and class interaction. I got a B in his class with the extra credit. He post grades early!
Professor Grice has an inspiring way of teaching. It's amazing to turn around in the class and see everyone paying attention. He engages a lot with his students. I did not read the book once, but still managed to do everything just with my lecture notes. He's awesome!
Even though there are no book there is A LOT OF READING! Dr. Grice used research articles about each racial group we studied. Multiple choice midterm exam, and several short papers over the readings. He responds to questions fast and will call you out of short-cutting assignments which was funny on my first paper.
IMHO: if u take him u better have time. U need to log in 2x each wk. read his feedback on assignments or he will start taking off points if u make the same mistakes. Class got harder as semester went on b/c he expected more. Don't just go by PPT, listen to lectures for notes for essays. he had Interesting topics but my HARDEST ONLINE CLASS EVER.
If you really want to learn something and discuss current events freely take this class you wont be disappointed. There is no dozing in this class he is fun inspirational and has too much knowledge. I wish I could have another course with him. He is the direct example of what a understandable and relatable not just professor but person is.
I loved Professor Grice's class. Beware of deadlines though!
I took Professor Grice for Minority Studies during summer. He crams a lot of information in 5 weeks but its really interesting how he ties it back into current events. He gives the best feedback on your assignments and grades fast so you know what to do for the next paper. Really enjoyed the class.
Mr. Grice himself is a great teacher. He responds very quick to emails and gets great feedback on papers, plus free e-book. Online, you must participate in the class, and there is a lot of writing, online lectures, the tests aren't too bad, but they do come from the book and his online lectures. He's accessible, it's just a card class to get into
Dr. Grice is hilarious. His class has a lot of writing but he makes class fun and relevant.
Grice is the most passionate professor. I never hesitated to email him for help and he clearly cares about his students. He provides audio lectures which are SO inspirational! His 3 essays required a lot of thinking and effort, so make sure you dont slack on those. NO CHAPTER QUIZZES! Only 3 unit exams. DBs were challenging, but educational!
Mr. Grice is my fav prof so far! I felt like it was a real class not a bunch of online busy work. I work FT so this was perfect. He responds to emails fast! The articles we read were interesting. You WILL WRITE! We had a Term Project on Dallas neighborhoods, 4 quizzes, midterm exam, essay final that that but you have 3 wks. No discussion boards!!!
Do not let "no textbook" thing fool you. Its still a LOT of reading. I have to admit the readings are interesting . Read feedback on papers. Read feedback on papers. READ FEEDBACK LOLOL! The best part of class is Dr. Grice's lectures and the Term Project. We choose to study Dallas Neighborhoods or these interviews with Dallas residents on race.
Grice takes his work to serious IMHO. He made me redo 2 assignments saying they "do not meet the objectives of the assignment". He gave really good feedback though. I admit I rushed through the assignments. I like the topic & readings but the assignments require a lot of work. Overall I give him a B- b/c he gave me a B lol. He is ok. U'll enjoy it
I really enjoyed Mr. Grice's class. He is organized and responsed to emails really fast.
Prof. Grice is real. I learned so much about Sociology and how things in society work. He never refers to the book he just knows the stuff. My fav theory we discussed is symbolic interactionism. Tests are hard, essays are easy if you notes, class is fun and he gives extra for low tests scores.
4 Quizzes, 1 Midterm Exam, 1 Major Project, 1 Final Exam (3 short essays). I loved this class. It was not a bunch of deadlines and weekly work. Dr. Grice encouraged us to to talk on discussion boards about the readings but it wasn't a graded assignment. He gives really good feedback. I like this audio recordings of lecture better than his PPTs.
I will never take a him again!!!!!! He expects everybody to like sociology. he gives 3 essays &discussion boards for a in person class. he talks fast. he told us if we are not passing we should drop before deadline and that it was ok. I stayed thinking i could do it his extra credit is harder than the reg assignment. he seems nice but he is hard
I loved his class. He gives extra credit and his lectures are always good.
I took Dr. Grice's intro class at noon and thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style. We had 3 essays, 2 exams, we took the 3rd exam as a class, 4 discussion boards. He used a lot cool videos to teach and discussed current events and how to relate them from a sociology perspective. He gives good feedback on assignments.
I took his 6wks class in Nov. I work, have 2 kids. It's a online class I expected it to be convenient. WRONG. He said even though its a short semester we are still required to cover same material and do same stuff like a 15wk class. YIKES. He grades fast & answers emails at 11:30 p.m (usually when I start my school work, lol) but you can't slip up
The Good: audio lectures, assignment for G.I.S. students, no book. The Bad: weird deadlines (I kept forgetting them) course assessment The Verdict: Easy A. I think he would be better in-person instead of online. Set reminders of due dates.
Mr. Grice is funny and extremely knowledgeable about society. No one was ever bored in class because of his energy. The only thing I would change would be telling us how many extra credit points we can earn from his in-class activity days. I was absent for 2 of those days and missed about 15 extra points. Other than that he is a great SOCI teacher.
Show up at class because there could be extra credit assignments. Great teacher. He really teaches you and not just talk your ear off. He experiments with every class so everyone is different. Go to class, take notes and do the essays. There were only 3 actual assignments .
He is a great teacher just try to show up to class because a lot of times he gives out a crazy amount of extra credit and great benefits if you show up to class. Overall he is hilarious and i wish all my teachers can be similar to him! YOU HAVE TO TRY TO FAIL it's impossible to fail that class
I took Prof. Grice for Minority Studies online. The readings are interesting. His lecture are good and the assignments make sense are not busy-work like my other online classes. He responds to emails fast.
For my first year in college, taking Dr. Grice has been a great choice that I took as my sociology professor. His lectures are not traditional like most of the professors, and engages you with them in an interesting way. I would most definitely take him again!
Good Prof. Easy A
Attendance is not required but Dr. Grice makes you want to attend class. He is very interactive during is lectures and class is interesting. 3 Exams, 2 Papers, 1 PowerPoint, 4 Discussions. I got an A because of all the in-class extra credit.
I took Dr. Grice online during the summer and it was great. His recorded lectures are very engaging as well as the assignments. Read the material and you will do good. Dr. Grice responds to emails quickly and I would definitely take him again.
Had a good sense of humor, produced a happy class environment, created a solid rubric of what's expected from you throughout the semester. don't get too stressed out but near the end of the semester when everything begins to pile up on top of you he is aware of this and helps you get everything done.
Took his summer class and I honestly enjoyed it far more than my full semester classes. He's very funny and real with you. Will answer any questions and gives everyone a chance to share their thoughts and opinions. He gives great lectures and makes sociology interesting. Read your chapters because he asks questions randomly on the spot. Great Class
This class taught me so much, and now I have so much respect for this instructor. I would really recommend this teacher to any student taking sociology courses!
Amazing guy! 10/10 would take him again!
This teacher is AMAZING! he is so funny! I would highly recommend him. He is a lenient grader and I was always laughing in class! the tests were a little difficult but he didn't make us take the final exam! Gave the whole class a 100/100 on the final! how cool is that! Overall I truly did enjoy his class and he is super smart!
Definitely recommend this professor! Class consisted of 2 test, 2 D.B, 1 Writing Assignment, 2 final assignments (PPT Presentation/short writing assignment) Communicates well with students. I took flex term class.
I took Proffesor Grice for my first year of college and i can say he is funny and makes you want to come to his class everyday and keeps the class entertained. His exams go through on what you learned so if you took notes then you are good to go. his discussion boards and assingments are really easy the easiest class i ever had.
Good class. 4 tests, family history project major paper, 1 discussion board. He responds fast and records himself explaining the required readings. Good online class.
His class is very easy if you just do the work! He provides some extra credit during class so I suggest you attend. His lectures were always fun and made you see things differently. Due to the pandemic classes were moved online but he provided great online lectures. Take him!! easy A
Dr. Grice is easily one of the best professors I've had the chance to take. Genuinely tries to ensure that students understand sociological concepts at the highest level. I would recommend taking his classes in person; he's extremely personable, entertaining, and knowledgeable. Textbook is necessary; attendance is not but is highly encouraged.
I enjoyed the class. Tradional class. read the text book and take a few tests. some questions on quizlet and others not. He also gives a few writing assignments and powerpoint presentation with voice over. online lectures are too long and kind of fell asleep to a few of them but in person there good.
He is a nice person and easy to talk too. His lectures are some of the most fun and engaging ones I have ever attended. Very interesting class; I never broke a sweat in it. He prepares students for the real world which I appreciate very much.
I loved this professor. I thought he was really nice and communicated with his online students well.
I took sociology with Professor Grice in 2012, and he was amazing! His lectures are very engaging, and I learned a lot. I developed some health issues during the semester and he worked with me to get caught up, but also was very compassionate to my situation. I was grieving a loss, and he spent some time with me after class making sure I was okay.
I really enjoyed my sociology class with Professor Grice this semester! He is funny, yet serious. This class was a great one to learn about systemic inequalities. There aren't a ton of assignments but they're hefty, so definitely manage your time wisely, it's doable though. If you do the necessary work, you'll get a good grade.
I took this class online during pandemic, I was worried but Professor Grice had an organized class with recorded lectures of him teaching. Optional Quizzes, multiple choice exams and 2 papers, 1 on a ethnic group you pick. He is fast with responding to questions.
This class has a book that is LONNNNG! I'm sure 90% of the book is just examples but he does offer audio and video lectures for those who learn better that way. He gives multiple (9) opportunities to pass the class plus you can retake the test twice. He responds somewhat quickly and his responses are well worded so your usually not left with more
The instructor is very understanding and knowledgeable. He is also very helpful and organized. Do not be afraid to ask questions he will respond quickly. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Loved this class! The textbook was good. The videos he selected were interesting. Dr. Grice was great, he recorded the lectures and we did video discussion boards. I love this instead of writing! We got to choose the minority group we wanted to research. Good class!
Professor Grice is a very helpful and approachable teacher. He makes himself available to students and do his best to explain the assignment in different formats for students to understand. He loves feedback and student engagement with the course. While I am a adult learner I found it very easy to navigate and complete his course. Great Teacher!
Professor Grice is one of the best Professors I know. He is very understanding, approachable, and always willing to answer your questions. He not only loves teaching, but he is very GOOD at it. I enjoyed the Adaptive Release Function that we used last semester. It made me more focused. Therefore, I recommend him for SOCI 1301.
I took this class for 8 weeks thinking it would be easy. It's not! Lots of reading and lots of lectures. It's not easy but it's one of the best classes I've taken. Dr. Grice responses quickly to emails and gives good lectures he makes you work for the grade though. Good class.
sociology 1301 during maymester (3 weeks). had 2 essays and 2 exams.. . I got A's on every assignment. The exams can be found. don't get intimidated. keep up with his lectures and use the textbook for the essays. He has a class discussion board where you can ask questions and he will answer because lots of students will have the same question.
I absolutely loved Professor Grice. All of the graded work is online, but I recommend attending class for his amazing lectures.
This class was very easy. It consisted of 2 exams, 2 papers, and 2 video discussion posts. The material is very interesting and easy to understand. He is very active when it comes to responding to questions and assignment feedback. Definitely take this course if you want a class that will not overwhelm your schedule.
I loved this course so much, taking it was a breeze, and professor grice made the class so much better. I genuinely enjoyed participating in the lectures and being a part of his class. If you are a auditory or visual learner this course is perfect for you.
I took this as a 8 week class. There was 4 exams and 1 paper which are the only grades that are counted for. The test was not hard and the paper was a little bit of work but simple. His lectures are very good and you can tell he cares about teaching. Even though it was a 8 week course I only had one assignment a week. Very simple and easy class.
Easiest Class Ever
Dr. Grice is awesome! I took his sociology 1301 class and he is an amazing teacher. You can tell he really cares about his students and he makes class interesting and fun. I found myself looking forward to class each week because his lectures were so engaging. I would definitely recommend his class!
Professor Grice is honestly the best and would def recommend! His lectures are what really helped me!
Took his 8 week course. 15 quizzes were all EC, all were easy & would definitely recommend to take to be safe. Only 3 exams. 2 major projects: 1 close reading assignment, 1 annotated bibliography (not as hard as it sounds. His instructions for each assignment were clear, as long as you follow his instructions you will do fine.
Pompous. Be prepared to video your discussion assignments and essays. Completely unnecessary and a waste of my time.
My experience with Professor Grice was horrible. He failed me on every paper because I missed a couple of points on the rubric. No actual feedback. His response was to do better. If you get him, run.
I have never written a review on this website but felt compelled to do so because of how great of a professor Dr. Grice is!! His lectures are very interesting and engaging and he makes class participation truly fun instead of a daunting task. He is so funny I always looked forward to his class, it was often the highlight of my week. 100/10!!
Professor Grice is amazing. I took his 16 week course. Overall , My experience with him was great. It was great studying with him. His class was really engaging. He is too funny and always replies back the email. I look forward to take his class in future too!!
The 8-week class was super easy. Only had to do two papers and 3 exams for the entire class. All the quizzes are optional extra credit.
