He is nice professor but he is very lecture heavy. There are 2 assignments, book review, midterm and final. He grades extremely hard and the midterm and final is not multiple choice, instead you have to write extremely long essays. He gives good feedback, but I wish he wasn't a strict grader.
he is a nice lecturer
Super Cool teacher love his lectures... he couldn't make the big picture in History I more clearer. Easy A.
This class was one of the easiest classes Ive taken. All you have to do is go to class, write and describe the key terms. The test were super easy, pretty much for your test you write an essay and include all the key terms in it. Easy A
Great summer professor ! He made history which is rare for me to enjoy in such subject ! Very specific and would always be available for any question
I LOVE him! He is so nice and adorable! He provides ppt online in case you miss anything. You have to read from Pearson to do 2 assignments. 2 exams and read a whole book to write a review. To succeed in his exams, pick 3 out of 4 questions and write an essay for each of the 3. Memorize what you wrote on connecting concepts and you will be good!!
Mr. Haight is such a great person to have as a professor, not only does he understand the students, but also gives us time for notes and to ask questions.
great professor, good lectures. take notes on everything he talks about and you will pass the essays. there are 3 essays and 2 primary sources. he is very helpful and fun. will take him again for hist 2. write practice essays on the key terms and memorize them. you will get an A...
Professor Haight is the best history teacher at HCC. You will have 2 primary resources which are easy to do. 2 essays midterm and final, they are based on key terms by his lectures. TAKE NOTES an you will do great. One book to read and he will ask questions about it, easy grade. He is a great teacher. Lectures are not boring. Highly recommend.
He was not a good grader.
too much essays
3 Books, A lot of Essays, Note Taking was hard, cutting points from essays and assignments. He promised that he will give us extra credit but he did not. To much pressure.
Good teacher just study and read and write notes down and you will pass
This was definitely one of the easiest classes Ive taken!! All you have to do is take notes. He tells you what terms will be on the test so pay attention to those and how theyre connected. I would listen to the lectures and record at the same time just for clarity. You cant fail this class unless you choose to not do the work or take notes.
He is literally the most difficult professor I've taken. For such a simple class, he makes everything so complicated. All of the dates are off and he loves essays. He wants the in class essays to be perfect as if you're in an English class and all tests are in class essays with about 15 terms to be incorporated and 6 paragraphs.
He is a great teacher! He does a lecture every class so pay attention and take notes! Im serious take notes! He talks a bit fast but its ok because you can record his lectures. Voice record. He does leave projects and makes you read a book but hey your in college what do you expect. Overall I would take him again.
Dr. Haight gives great lectures and ensures everyone is on track with them. He is clear about his instructions and is well accessible. Make sure you attend class and take good notes because all the detailing will help you get a good score on your exams which are essays.
The best professor I have had so far, extremely chill, very understanding, and super helpful. The assignments are quite easy and shouldn't be a problem if you pay attention in class and read what you need to. I would definitely take him again and probably will for HIST1302, overall 10/10.
Professor Haight is such an amazing guy, he really cares for his students and wants them to succeed. He is a very picky grader so be prepared, but this semester he decided not to give any tests. His course is made up of a book and podcast assignment. Due to covid we did have a research paper, but he allowed an alternate midterm essay instead.
Dr. Haight is the best professor I've ever had. He is super understanding and easy going. He was extremely understand with everything that was going on due to COVID and even gave alternate assignment options in case we didn't have access to materials. I will be taking his History II class in the summer!
The most boring teacher I've ever had. His class is lecture heavy and extremely BORING. His powerpoints are useless all he does is drone on for the entire class. Also, his lectures are extremely useless because you don't need any of them to do the assignments. He tries way too hard to be relatable and funny. Didn't like the class at all.
He was super annoying about all of the covid-19 stuff. Sent too many emails and would not leave you alone. Too many assignments and he's a tough grader. So many essays, more than my english class. Would not take him again.
I loved him!!!! I do not understand why he has bad reviews he's the best professor ever his class is lecture and he gives you certain terms to pay attention to and his test correspond directly to those term and he usually gives a day before the exam and goes over whatever questions you may have
Dr. Haight is an amazing professor, maybe one of the best professors I've ever had. During the pandemic, he was so lenient and pushed back our due dates several times. He is lecture heavy but they're really interesting. He genuinely wanted you to succeed and is very caring. If you do the required work it will be a really easy class.
I absolutely enjoy having Dr. Haight as a professor, I also took his hist 1301 course this spring, he did an great job transitioning to online after COVID-19. He does not give out tests, instead focuses on writing assignments. he keeps you up to date with any info thru email. Getting an A is not hard, only if you truly put in some effort.
Dr. Haight's a very good history professor overall! I enjoyed having him for US History. He does essays, and he prefers Chicago Style format on your papers for both midterm and final, which I familiarized that essay format. No works cited page, just footnotes. I can't thank myself for my hard work, and I turned them in within grace periods!
Wrapping up Dr. Haights Winter Mini for History 1301, it is unfortunate I could not take this class a full semester. You can tell he is a compassionate, intelligent professor. Due to the compact semester, there was quite a bit of reading, but that is expected in a history course. All assignments were available to go at your own pace.
Professor Haight is a good teacher. He will give your 24 h after the due date for finishing your essays, and a penalty of 10 points each day when you are late. However, he is very strict about parallelism. My classmates have 0 points because they use paraphrase tools.
No exams in this class but be prepared to read! He requires a total of 3 books for class. Dr. Haight is clear in what he wants, read your materials and be sure to stay on top of everything! I wish I could take him for a full semester, his lectures are great! I appreciated that he would give feedback on assignments & was easily available via canvas!
Professor Haight offered one of the most interesting history courses I have ever taken. His background and knowledge is notable, respected and quite interesting. He provides you all the materials you need and mainly leaves it up to you to decide which you want to use. Follow his suggestions and everything he has set up for you and you will pass!
I took this course over the summer and there was a total of five assignments. They are all spaced out. Each assignment is given about 1 to 1.5 weeks to do. He is a very critical grader and you will have to work in order to succeed in this class. It is very essay-heavy. You will struggle if you are lazy, but you will gain a lot of knowledge.
There are only 5 assignments for the whole course. Instructions are clear and gives good feedback. He also gives a 24-hour grace period for all assignments. You have to actually try to get an F in this class.
Mr. Haight is a solid choice. He's very VERY lenient as long as you listen and follow instructions on assignments and his grace periods he offers on them are extremely helpful in case you need extra time without penalty. Straightforward with the material he teaches so just take notes and you'll do fine.
Although I will never take this class again unless I'm forced to, I will say this though, Professor Haight is kind, caring, and lenient. He does offer extra credit options. However, the class was really stressful for me, I struggled to get an A, I didn't see positive results coming in, but last minute he gave me an A and I am so grateful to him.
He isn't that bad for History at HCC! As long as you follow his instructions, you are fine on getting an A (or B) in his class! His class is organized and essay-based, and you just have to follow the essay formatting he mentioned in the lecture. He only gives 4 or 5 assignments. Responds to emails on time for clarification. Extra credit by EGLS3.
He was amazing and very kind. My class only had 5 assignments (which includes the final). This was a little daunting at first, but his runic is very clear and you can send in the first draft of your essay early for feedback. If you do this, its not hard to get an A. There are two books that my class read, but both are available on audiobook.
He is fair. Thats all I can say about him, I felt like he was a tough grader many times but the feedback was fair. The structure of his honors class was very poorly thought out, for the first 2 moths we only had one assignment due but them so many assignments were due in November and December and other class load was way too much in the last month.
Professor Haight's lectures were informative and fun although it was an 8 AM class. He is not afraid to deduct points if you don't meet the requirements. I recommend taking his class because you will learn very interesting stuff, especially about African American History from his book reviews and I am grateful for that. USE Audible for Book Reviews
Good teacher.
Dr.Haight is a good professor, he's very responsive with his mails, clear grading criteria. His class is also very organised. Though I disliked his harsh grading. Considering how much effort students put in writing the essay, he would subtract a lot from a small mistake. If you're not a TRY HARD normally it would be very hard to get a good grade.
This professor was amazing! I took this class for the first session in the summer and the work consisted of 5 assignments (all were writing). Get ready to read but if you are good with managing your time, you will do good!! He is a sweet and caring professor and responds to his emails fast. Totally recommend him!
I hated his professor, He is an essay based class. He is TOUGH grader on essays. I barely passed his class. There was a book assignment that I HATED doing. I would just stay away from this professor if you don't want to stress over a class. I have so much things I could say but just dont bother in taking him. Save yourself the headache please.
He only gives out 5 assignments, including the final essay. Attendance isn't necessary. He does give extra credit for coming to class. He isnt a tough grader as long as you follow the rubric. Some of the materials came free with the class but had to purchase the reading for one of the assignments. Overall a cool professor and enjoyed his teachings.
He is a good professor. His lectures are clear and he gives grace periods, few days if you cannot complete the assignments on time. He gave us two essays, both worth 250 points, very clear instructions. Attendance is not required but he gave extra credits to those who attended his class. recommend you attend his lectures for notes, you will need it.

The professor took a long time to reply, he was always rude in his emails. Not only that, he was not respectful with the grading. I advise looking else where for a history professor. I thought he was a good professor, but the joke was on me.
Well..
Best History professor! Take him! Class is very easy, doesn't give too many assignments, is very understanding, always extends due dates, and history is actually interesting when listening to him. Take him if you want to have a chill, easy, and stress-free history class.
Literally the best History professor I have ever taken and he has my respect for it !! Usually I hate history because of date memorization but in this class forget about that, you will learn the real history. There is no exams which is great, grading consists of essays throughout the semester which are easy since he guides you.
Tough greater for discussions and assessments, but take him. He is very helpful. Not a difficult class
CONS: -WAY too much reading for a Summer class (5 Weeks) - 2 Moderately complicated Essays PROS: -Extremely well organized Course -Excellent Communications both in WRITTEN and Video Streaming Live -He gives 2 days after Due Dates to turn in work with no penalty You will not feel abandoned by this Professor. He's the GOLD STANDARD!
I took Prof. Haight's Online Anytime Summer class. He does assign a lot of reading but it was necessary for the essays and writing assignments. This class was an easy A. No tests or exams. The only major grades are 2 Mini Essay assignments and a Book Response assignment. He gives a 2-day grace period for all assignments.
I haaaate history but Professor Haight made it so much fun. I enjoyed this class so much. There are no tests and/or final in this class. There is mini essays but they are well explained. He gives out the assignments with enough time to actually complete them. His lectures are fun and interesting. All around great! Highly recommend!
The BEST professor I've ever had throughout my 3 semesters. I usually find history so boring but he made it interesting for me. Just have to pay attention in class and you'll pass. No exams just essays and written assignments that need the textbook, book, and notes. Very clear on criteria for assignments. Don't Procrastinate!
Please Take Him! He's an awesome professor! I don't understand why there's bad reviews about his class. His class is amazing, he's funny, caring and probably the best professor I ever had at HCC. There's no exams but you would just need to do some essays but it is easy I promise. In addition he gives grace period for late work.
Very, very understanding and helpful. It gives five extra days of turning in the work without taking points. You will have no exams, just mini-essays, and if you read, it's straightforward. Plus, he goes over what should be done and gives easy topics.
if you hate essays don't take him. weird grading and no examples for written assignments.
There is no way you will pass this class if you don't read the class online textbook. I took him for an 8 week course and at a point I regretted it. We have around 4 major assignments that require a lot of reading. Do not procrastinate on the reading part and you will be good. The rest of the assignments are easy and he gives extra days to turn in.
In my opinion this was an easy class so do not get discouraged by the books that you have to read. This class is based on answering questions based on books. There are 15 easy quizzes, 2 unit assessment where you answer 5 questions, 1 book response where you answer 4 and an end of term reflection. Follow the rubric and you will be ok
He's funny. No final exams but doing projects instead
just have to read, other than that, he's amazing!!!
You will need to set time apart for reading. Major assignments are all based on textbook chapters, book assignments, and primary sources that are assigned weekly to read. This professor truly cares about his student's success and made sure to support us as much as possible. I took this class as online any time and still felt very supported.
I took Professor Haight for 2nd 5-weeks summer. Our start was delayed one week because of Hurricane Beryl, but the professor reduced assignments and gave us more time because of the delay. He replies to all emails the same day, and the assignments are very easy if you put in a little effort. Great communicator and fair grader, definitely take him!
VERY essay heavy. Don't take if you struggle with essay writing. Not very clear instructions and weird grading too!
If you are a history major, you'll hate it. Literally one giant essay, two book assignments, and two other writing assignments. No tests. Reading is necessary, but there's no test over reading, so it's easy to ignore. I feel like I didn't get anything out of the class. Also, prof is short with you and flaky.
Loved him. So kind and understanding. He gives Extension after extension. No exams. Nothing to memorize. Just writing. Literally if you read, or even skim, it's easy. If you dont read or have any understanding of the material he assigns on, you'll fail. It's just 5 assignments. No final exam. If you like writing I recommend this class.
There are minimal assignments, but they are tedious and lengthy. There are also in-class discussions and participation does matter. It is history, so it will be long and drawn out, but he makes it enjoyable to learn. I will always recommend Prof. Haight. Take him if you can!
Professor Haight is amazing. He's very chill. He doesn't assign any exams/quizzes. He just reads off slides in class (which admittedly can be boring at times), assigns book discussions every now and then, and there's an essay he assigns towards the middle of the semester. Overall, it's a very easy class. Take him if you can, you won't regret it!
despite it being online anytime, he still made time to have an optional online lecture session for us. Overall, it was just a bunch of textbook/primary source readings. only 5 papers. two of them are based on 2 books u have to read. it's not a hard class and he gave extra time to work on assignments. also replies to emails fast. An amazing teacher
He is very attentive sends out weekly reminders, mostly reading weekly but super easy. I have a fulltime job and take online classes only, he gave so many extensions it honestly saved me from going insane. He prerecords live lectures just incase you are not able to attend and really understanding. honestly never had a better teacher. he's amazing!
Learned nothing but maybe this is because I took the online course.
This class is only reading and writing. I took this class online. There are no test but there are also very few assignments. If writing isn't your strong suit I would pass but if you don't mind reading and writing a lot then I'd say take him. His instructions are very clear and if you just follow them you'll get a good grade.
This professor actually made me enjoy history. He focuses hard on the history that not a lot of other people talk about such as minority history, while of course hitting the major things to know. The discussions are easy, just skim through each chapter youll be fine. There's 1 major assignment which is an essay but it has clear grading criteria.
Dr. H is a great professor and lenient w/ assignment extensions. This class does require a lot of writing and the assignments are VERY time consuming, DO NOT WAIT to submit assignments. No make up work or extra credit given. Best advice I can give anyone, is to not procrastinate. There are only 4-5 assignments due. Overall, great professor!
Dr.H is a great professor. He's very helpful and understanding, and his class is highly informative. However, if you are a full-time worker like me, I wouldn't recommend taking his class because all your time will be dedicated to reading. Overall, it was a great experience.
Professor Haight is by far the most caring professor I have ever taken at HCC. His grading criteria is mostly clear, but there is lots of reading and writing that I don't recommend waiting till last minute to do. Weekly announcements and dedicated live video lectures for online courses. Overall, my favorite history professor at the college.
Amazing Professor. Responds to emails promptly and is very helpful. A lot of reading for this class. Gives extra credit, and final is an essay.
He is one of the best professors I have taken for History, very communicative towards students, forgiving and graceful towards most deadlines. There is a bit of reading to do so do not be lazy. Even if you are, you still have a really good chance of passing. Passionate for his teaching and helps you improve your own writing as you continue. 10/10
He is one of the worth professors that I have ever had. there were 5 assignments for his class and he graded the first assignment 2 weeks before the final exam so it was too late to drop the class and i got a W for this class. He is extremely illogical and taking classes with him is a never ending headache. Do not take a class with him.
I TOOK HIM FOR BOTH HISTORY. he's so lenient and only has 5 assignments. you do have to read A LOT bc all the assignments are writing. the writing wasn't too hard, he gave a good grade.
There is a lot of reading required for this class, but there is only 5 assignments . The assignments are all essays and they're all based on the readings. He does ask his students if they need any help on the assignments, but they are pretty self explanatory.
I took Professor Haight for HIST 1302 in the 5-week summer session. No tests, just writing assignments based on readings and primary sources. You need to stay on top of the reading and highlight. He provides clear instructions, and grades are typically received within about a week. Fair and worth it. I'd retake him.
He's an amazing professor. He gives loads of extra credit and is just a chill dude. Overall, the class wasn't bad. There were no tests or quizzes, but the homework was tough. You just gotta know how to manage your time because he gives you a lot of time to complete it. He is a fair grader.
Dr. H is great! No tests/quizzes, just essays based off readings & notes. Pls don't be discouraged by that; just follow his rubric & you'll be good. He gives grace periods & extra credit, so it's hard to fail this class. He's a good guy & good professor.
Great professor, no exams or quizzes. 2 longer theme assignments, and 3 book assignments. It is recommended to read the textbook weekly, but not required to understand the course. Attendance is mandatory, but he gives 5 extra credit points for every day you attend. Grading criteria is very clear for all his assignments. Make sure you follow rubric!
