I took his class and learned a lot from him. He helped me to think outside the box. He has a stutter, but he is smart, cute and helpful. Don't let the speech thing get in the way. I received A's in the class. He know's a lot of stuff.

Chris was great. Fun and pleasant to look at. You EARN your grade, so just go to class, take notes, write your papers, ask him for help if needed and you can EARN an A. This class was excellent. If you are interested in Mass media and its effects on society this would be a great class. The books are very interesting and can benefit you outside of class. There is a lot of challenging work but he is somewhat easygoing if you get to know him. I recommend this class highly.

Writing about articles and chapters is more than just writing. I feel like we are dissecting each word we read. It's very enlightening and interesting. A lot of sentence structure practice, but it's very helpful. By the second week, you barely even notice the stutter. Also, i didn't know that i wasn't the only one attracted to him.

The only people who have a problem with Professor Hallsted are those who want an easy grade. He makes you think and encourages you to improve your writing skills. If you pay attention and do the reading for this class you will learn a lot.

Eng 1B. Give me a break, hes a great guy, sure his stuttering is annoying, but after 2nd week, u wont notice it. All papers are due whenever you want, so dont procrastinate. Make sure to have him proof read ur papers before u turn them in, hell tell u wat to fix. I got an A and blieve me, i HATE writing HATE IT. but in this class, i liked it.

I took his 1A class before, but I had to drop it due to his difficulty and stutter, hated the class. But now in his 1C class...it seems he grades fair now, got an A. cool guy. compared to other professors, i favor him. he's got vast knowledge in old school movies.

His class is themed. You learn more about the topic rather than learning how to improve your writing skills and anything English oriented. It was an okay class.

If you like reading, then you should take him. There are lots of reading in the class, but most of the books are interesting. He is a really cool guy, kind, friendly and funny. He is also willing to help if you have problems during class. A great professor compares to other English instructors.

At the beginning of the semester he sounds really hard when the syllabus was read...he is so behind schedule so no need to be shocked when you see the syallabus! As long as you turn in your papers (college level writing required)on time you will just do fine! Funny guy who cracks me up with his random jokes...I would probably take him in 1C?

He is tough but if you are willing to work hard, it pays off. He is sarcastic, so be warn and he doesnt like stupid questions so he will ask questions to answer your question, if you understand his sense of humor, he is very funny.Easy going and willing to work with you. He grades hard and he expects alot out of you so be prepare. I think he is HOT

i love hallstead. he's sarcastic, intelligent, well read, and very clear with what he expects. his expectations may be high, but it pushes you to work harder. if you like english, you'll love him. if you hate to write don't take his class.

This class seemed really hard the first day. However, it isn't as hard as it seems for some reason. There is alot of essays in this course. However, I enjoy this class because Prof Hallsted is funny n really nice person. If you need help in your essay he will help you. But, be prepare to read. Overall A+ go HALLSTED

Difficult, but very helpful. He works to improve writing. He tends assign harder works to read, but they are interesting and open your mind to new views. If you ask for help, you'll get it! If you joke around, he'll joke back, but still keep on topic. He was very helpful with grading and is well read. Highly educated and insightful! RECCOMEND!!!

Hard Professor, but know his stuff. Movie buff like you would not believe! Takes courses very seriously, and says to take each class and put all your effort into it as if "this class was your major." Preps you for graduate work. Awesome guy, has a stutter but it is slight. Great sense of humor!! Not an easy "A".

He teaches an ton and keeps things very interested. The topics is good and he helped me learn alot and showed me how to write. He needs to cut his hair though, the length is wierd.

A great teacher who gets a bad rep here mainly due to the fact most students do not put up the effort. Out of 36, 12 remained. Stay interested, and he will go out of his way to help you. His stuttering is a not at all an issue. Class was pretty interesting and easy except for the research essay which was a but challenging. Definitely recommended.

at first i thought i wouldnt like him and that the class would be boring and hard, after a couple weeks i found myself actually enjoying his class. he is kind of a weird guy but hes cool to talk to. if you actually take interest in the subjects he covers in his class you will have no problem getting a good grade. not an easy A but a good class.

Take Hallsted if you are a strong writer and want an English class with substance. He has a liberal stance & teaches about progressive topics. Material taught: propaganda, criticism of contemporary society, environmentalism, indie documentaries. Class requires higher-level of thinking. Laid back teaching.

People drop out based on intimidation. Which if you can't tell by reading >10 of the reviews, drop out of college & save money... geez. Once you make it through the first paper (which looks harder than it really is) you'll be fine. Stick with it & get interested in your topic & you'll be fine. He'll definately teach you to research & take a stance.

This is a VERY tough class and he does expect you to have pretty proficient grammar and writing skills. (it IS college level writing) Took him for 1A and was quite intimidated by the first two essays or so but he is very helpful and knows his stuff! Just participate in class and ask him questions he's really nice and funny in a nerdy way lol

Reading material may be really boring if you do not like the subject (The main material was The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein for the 2012 spring class). Lots of choices on essays which he gives you lots of hints (so attend the class!). He's funny and enjoyable to listen to. He ANSWERS your questions, but often indirectly. I got an A.

He explains how to write the essays, he explains how to do every part of the essay. He encourages you to write about something you don't have much knowledge of because in the process of researching, you will become more knowledgeable. Essays were kind of hard because it was all research essays and then a final 10 page research essay.

As a professor he is pretty good although he requires lots of reading. Overall he is very helpful with writing argumentative papers and answers most questions. I would recommend taking him if you can spend time on essays and he is a really nice guy!

Excellent teacher, takes care to meet students where they are at while pushing them towards the academic standard expected of them as they advance in life. Carefully explains concepts in a manner that allows freedom of personal development and writing style while maintaining the integrity of the work. I would take him again in a heartbeat.

Best instructor I've ever had. If you have the IQ of a stick you probably will drop out with in the first 5 minutes of the class, but for those who appreciate the challenge of studying propaganda as well as society themed questions than you will enjoy his semester.

GREAT teacher. He has a different theme for every semester, I just so happend to get the BEST one lol. Our theme is Disney out first essay was "the princess paper". Super easy class goes by fast. Group work involved... But by far the most interesting English class I've taken

He really knows his English. His critical thinking class is awesome and really teaches you how to critically analyze information. Its not an easy class but it is very rewarding.

Took his summer class and got lucky with the Disney themed course. Essays are straight forward, you just need keep up with the drafts. There was a lot of reading but it helped to draft the essays. There were 4 essays and one final research, with one more essay in the final. Nice guy, tries to make jokes and get the class talking.

He was a good professor and I am sure that I would take his class over, he was nice and understanding ifwhen you need help

Professor Hallsted is amazing! I had him as a teacher for 1A and 1C. There is a lot of work in both of the classes, but all of it is very worth the time and effort. His lectures might be boring (sometimes), but he makes it funny! He is very helpful and he pushes you to critically think. So awesome in every way! :)

I took english68 and although Prof. Hallsted gives a lot of essays to finish, it is actually very rewarding and he actually prepares you for English1A. but this class definitely improved my ability to write. The Prof himself is passionate about teaching and tries his best to make jokes. I would recommend taking him. Be prepared to work though.

Expect a lot of homework and Redding. Papers have to be 5 pages and reaserch paper has to be 10 pages along with 100 note cards. Pretty boring class and topics and I was always a little confused with his prompts. Tough grader!

he's a great professor. I had him for 68 and 1A, planning to take him for 1C. His lectures are interesting and you will definitely learn a lot from them. many group discussions. he's helpful and grades fairly. will take again.

I took him for Engl 1C, he assigned 3 books which where page turners and i loved. His prompts are a bit complicated to understand, but it is a critical thinking class, so you have to do a lot of that. Overall, i really enjoyed his class, be prepared to read a lot, and make sure to participate so you can be aware of what is happening.

I had him for English 1A and I think he was very fair and overall a good teacher. Will you have to work to pass? Yes. There is an essay due about every two weeks and are on average 6 pages. He was also very charming. Only reason I got a C is because I started to slack at the end of the semester, not because he wasn't doing his job right.

His grading on his papers were rather hard, but will definitely help out with your later papers in the class. Also expect quizzes whenever there is reading due as he usually has them.

Interesting professor, very geeky, and so handsome! Lectures are informative. Shows interest in helping students succeed. Get ready to read and write about what he asks in the book. Tough grader but always go back and ask him why or how you can improve.

Funny and entertaining lectures, be ready to read as all your essays will be on the reading. Lots of homework but not a hard grader, I have taken ENG 68 & ENG 1A and passed both w/ an A, and I been out of school for 20 yrs. If you put in the effort you will pass.

A seemingly good person with a cool and interesting knowledge on the subject and has read a lot of literature, a lot. Quite funny. Can tell he goes into deep thought and forms sentences with such intention. Makes the class think.

Ok. I was very hesitant coming into the class just because I knew this class was going to be difficult but wow. I learned so much from him and all the textbooks used. It made me grow so much as a writer. So much that I ended up getting a 98 on my last paper! I recommend you take him!

I really like him, he's laid back and your grade mainly relies on three big essays. The only problem is that he wants you to write in a very specific way so go in during office hours and having him talk you through your essays. His lectures are everything that is on the quizzes and tests so attend class! He's awkward funny. I also took LIT36.

Straight forward guy. If you listen, he clearly states what he wants on the essays and what NOT to do. As long as you follow instructions, you'll pass.

Lots of reading, essays and 1 research paper. I didnt have an outside life the entire semester since all my focus was on homework and papers for this class. I worked hard and got a B, so its possible to pass as long as you TRY!! Hes awkwardly funny and cute. I learned a lot in his class. Thank you Mr. Hallsted!!

Hes a excellent English teacher and does well to explain what he expects in your essays. You must work for an A though, its not an easy A

He has a clear grading schedule and the syllabus is a great thing to always have on hand. I took him for winter but the structure is the same for spring or fall. He only gives 3, 1000+ word essays and a research paper of 10 pages. Very easy to do as long as you pay attention to what he wants. Final is super easy, and likes to base class on a theme.

Great guy, loved his class. You definitely have to work for your grade, but he's willing to help and genuinely wants you to do well. His courses are themed and he gives really interesting writing prompts. If you like a challenge and awkward humor, you'll definitely appreciate his class. :^)

Professor Hallsted is one of the best English professors i have had. You really do need to work for your grade and put in the effort when it comes to writing essays given that tier are 3 essays worth 75% of your grade. He is willing to help anyone with anything which is the best part. MAKE SURE YOU STAY ON TRACK AND READ!!

3 Large Papers and a Final make up most of your grade. There's a lot of classwork as well, but none of it is difficult or due right away. The papers are tied to a book each, with weekly online quizzes on the chapters. As long as you read every week, use concepts from the book and integrate writing techniques, should be fine, can also e-mail easily

I enjoyed taking Eng with Hallsted. He taught me how to be a great writer and now I get higher grades on my papers for my other classes. He does make you think which I think is great. As long as you follow the templates and actually pay attention in class, you'll pass.

He's not your typical professor. He wants you to succeed, to go beyond the surface, and to find your own style. He doesn't tell you how to write but he does help you. His class is not very hard, just some reading quizzes and 4 major essays. He doesn't grade very hard. In-depth discussions. I honestly would have an A if I had done all my work.

I took a summer course and my experience was very positive. Professor Hallsted showed that he cares about my education by giving great feedback instantly. He gave the class so much opportunity to learn with several different sources and readings. It was his first online experience and he adjusted very quickly. Great teacher with positive attitude.

Had a wonderful time in class with Professor Hallsted. Yes, lots of reading, but this is a Literature class, so - duh - you have to read and write. A few quizzes are given in class. Otherwise, we shared our thoughts about the reading assignments - so speak up. He is a cool guy that loves his job and wants students to succeed.

hallsted was a really amazing teacher for me. his criteria was based around disney, and as a person who loves disney, it was very easy for me to pay attention. he does have a lot of papers loaded with content, he explained them in detail, and was very lenient with deadlines when i had him. a loott of reading but if you work for it you'll be ok.

Professor Hallsted is a tough Professor, but he genuinely teaches you the expectations that will be set on you when writing in a collegiate environment. The course uses Disney as a means to teach this, and while I was reluctant about this at first, he was more than capable of engaging the class consistently over the summer. You'll sweat for the A.

I learned a lot about proper research and formatting, things that will help me not only in college but in life. Also, the class isn't really about Disney; it's about utopianism Disney is the vessel. He gives good feedback, and if you show up/attend office hours, you can get an A. Show up every day and put in some care, and he will meet you halfway.

It takes work. That's all it takes to get through this class. The subject is entertaining. The writing is easy if you pay attention. He grades very well and knows the work you put into it. If you want to learn take him. He has office hours and he will help you. He will tell you straight forward what he wants.
